four kids and starring kids hi i'm

christian winter ventura and i'm

alexander

and we're the biggest we've got a

wonderful show for you today

it's all about the old west what's the

old west

it's a time in american history from

1860 to 1890

in the area west of the mississippi

river a time of cowboys and indians

explorers

fur trappers and miners and outlaws and

sheriffs

farmers and townsfolk it sounds like a

fascinating time period

oh it was it all began when the pioneers

started moving west

here's the song from that period it's

called she'll be coming round the

[Music]

she'll be mountain around the mountains

[Music]

is

[Music]

oh

[Music]

uh

[Music]

she's

so what was the old west like it was a

very exciting place

it was wide open countryside some of the

most beautiful in the world

there were over 1 000 different native

american civilizations

living in different parts of what is now

america and each had their own culture

what the culture let's see it's the

practices and beliefs

and customs it's also the language and

the style of dress

and homes and art oh i get it

it's like the way biggles and bagel land

are different than people

and the people world exactly it's time

for our song

let's watch as a singing cowboy rides

through a small western town

[Music]

singing

[Music]

it rained all night the day i left the

weather it was dry

the sun's so hot on me

an angel unlike me

oh susannah don't you cry for me

[Music]

um

partners hi billy i can see you've gone

into the old west spirit

yep i'm an old cow man

from the rio grande so what are you guys

doing

research i'm helping chris put together

his top 10 fascinating facts

cool can i help sure have a look in that

book

and see what you can find out about

different styles of native american

housing

okey dokey guess what this expression

means

that old cow poke looks as if he was

rode hard and put away wet

i give up it meant not looking good

let's hear some more cowboy talk okay my

little sister is no bigger than a bar of

soap

after a week's wash let me guess cowboy

talk for a small person

guys we better get back on track alex

and christian are ready

okay cue the host in the wild west

cowboys spent their nights out in the

open around campfires

eating dinner telling tall tales and

singing songs

and the great american tradition of

singing around the campfire is still

with us today

so let's join the kids songs kids in a

campfire sing-along

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

monkey

[Music]

marching down

[Music]

the pueblo indians of the southwest

built wonderful houses of mud and clay

see and it says here that the plains

indians

were excellent horsemen weren't they

nomadic

what's nomadic thematic music they moved

from place to place

see they could just fold up their

teepees and set them up somewhere else

neat a big part of western life revolves

around the cattle ranches

cowboys stayed very busy herding cattle

taming

wild horses and roping steers soon they

were having contests between themselves

and the rodeo was born texas is home to

lots of rodeos cowboys ranchers and

pride

so let's head deep in the heart of texas

[Music]

texas

[Music]

is

[Music]

yeah those cowboys used to love sitting

around the fire drinking arbuckle's axle

grease they drank axle grease

that was their name for coffee they'd

have it in the morning

with their hand food stir cow grease and

horse thieves special

okay okay what's all that cowboy talk

for pancakes butter

and rice pudding okay quick draw let's

get that next clip ready to roll you're

too slow for me city slicker i'm ready

okay kia the host three two and

q ah ruby you're getting in the mood oh

yes

i'm enjoying our trip through the wild

west then you'll definitely like our

next video

what is it about square dancing when

folks went out at night in the old west

the local band would play and everyone

would join in a big dance

with this dance in a square kinda

you'll see how it all works in our video

of

turkey in the straw as i was

[Music]

grab your partner take her to the floor

and we're gonna dance

[Music]

that mr catfish coming down the stream

say mr catfish what did you

need caulk mr catfish by the snout and

turn mr catfish wrong side out

turkey in the straw turkey and destroy

[Music]

turkey in the straw

came to the river and i couldn't get

across i paid five dollars for an old

blind house

wouldn't go ahead nor he wouldn't stand

still so it went up and down like an old

sawmill

[Music]

i'm so jealous that you're getting to

interview charmaine rodman today

i'm sorry she's your hero isn't she

yeah i want to be the woman's favorite

champion when i grow up

i can't believe that she's been the

reigning champion for 10 years in a row

and i can't believe that she first won

the world championship when she was only

14.

katie why don't you greet her when she

gets here and go through the questions

with her

oh thanks janet that would be great he

was like a long tail cat in a room full

of rocking chairs

huh nervous it's a cowboy expression for

nervous

i'm getting nervous that we're going to

miss our queue coming to the host dan

cue him in a little while we'll be

meeting today's guest

she's a 10-time world champion women's

barrel racer

a real modern day cowgirl our next video

is about a cowboy

who brags a little too much and some

cowgirls who do some tricks you won't

believe

it's called rodeo rider

a bronc may scare some folks but

don't mean nothing to me

when i get done riding they're gentle

and kind

because i'm the

[Music]

there's best cowboy that can do it

quite the same

[Music]

a cowgirl can't steal the show

[Music]

is

[Music]

yes

[Music]

that dude was leaving cheyenne leaving

cheyenne you mean wyoming

nope cowboy talk for getting off

you see it was such a disgrace to be

dumped by your horse in front of your

friends

that the cowboy would just leave town

that macho thing again

and now it's time for that graphic thing

again roll it

roll in roll in roll in right high and

take it

today we are very pleased to have as our

guest on question time

rodeo champion charmaine rodman she's

here right now with our own janet vapes

thank you christian thank you alexandra

and most especially thank you charmaine

for coming and joining us here today

you're welcome first of all how old were

you when you first

started riding i was six years old when

i started competing and i don't really

remember

the first time i ever rode a horse what

kind of riding did you do at first

um i started off bareback riding because

i was too little to put a saddle on my

horse and so

when i was big enough to put the saddle

on my horse then i started riding in a

saddle

did you grow up on a ranch uh-huh i grew

up on a ranch and

and i rode with my dad and my sisters

and we looked after the cattle and all

kinds of fun stuff

tell us about your horse my horse's name

is camper he got his name because

he's campered around the barrels my dad

thought of his name

he's a brown horse and he's 17 years old

he's a great horse i've won over a

million dollars on him

and he's a lot of fun he's wonderful is

your buckle one of the things you won

i have 10 buckles just like this and

this is what we work for all year long

to try and win a gold buckle at the end

of the year

can you explain to us what barrel racing

is barrel racing is a timed event it's

run around

three barrels in a cloverleaf pattern

it's timed with an electric timer

and when you cross the timer it starts

your time and when you cross back over

and on the way

when you're finished it stops the time

rodeo riders are really strong

how do you guys stay in shape i stay in

shape by riding

and when we're traveling we have to

clean stalls and carry water buckets and

so i don't actually go and work out but

it's a workout just having horses

are there a lot of real cowboys left

there's lots of real cowboys left

what advice do you have for kids who

want to be rodeo riders

well just to have fun and work hard and

and

love your horse well thank you very much

charmaine for coming and for telling us

so much about rodeo riding well you're

welcome janet

chris are you ready with your top 10

list i guess so

now this one has been so hard to do

because there's so many fascinating

facts about native americans

and their culture it's just about

impossible to narrow it down to 10

facts i know what you mean chris

sometimes

it's just so hard to make choices but

i'm sure you did a good job

thanks billy hey isn't it time for you

to sing along

oh yeah question alex intro to billy's

sing-along in

three two and and now it's time for that

very fun very silly and very

sing-along-able part of our show

silly little sing-along today's song is

silly one thing i discovered in our

research about the old west

was that it's full of unusual characters

in this next song we will meet a lot of

them

in an old western town so kids

get up and march with me and my sister

ruby

to the tune of ring a jig jig and away

we go

as i was walking down the street down

the street

down the street the girl can swirl like

yes to me

[Music]

oh

as i was walking down the street down

the street

down the street i'm getting a k*ll

walking up still a girl can twirl like

chance to me

hi h* hey

[Music]

and i was walking down the street down

the street

down the street twins and dance they

came from france and then in a k*ll

walking

[Music]

as i was walking down the street down

the street

down the street a boy in the booth

playing the loot winter can dance it

came from france a man in a kilt

walking up stilts the girl in king's

world and swirling world a chance to

meet her

[Music]

walking down the street down the street

down the street a man who was over the

watch of gold a boy

playing the loot twins they

[Music]

away we go away we go

[Music]

[Laughter]

chris is in position it's time for his

top 10 segment

and q once again it's time for chris

aguilar to present his top 10

fascinating facts segment today's topic

is native americans

ready chris i'm ready alex the top 10

native americans are number 10 native

americans have been living in north

america

for 250 000 years

number nine indians invented the papoose

lived in the southwest since the year

100. number seven the cliff dwellers

were skilled architects

were buffalo hunters number three the

plateau

indians like the nez purse were skilled

wigwams

and carved birch bark canoes and the

number one most fascinating fact about

native americans

is the indian cultures that took

thousands of years to develop

were largely destroyed in 30 years of

western expansion

chris did a real nice job with that list

what's next we have one last song

okay coming to the host in three two

when the wild west was being settled

farmers were able to buy lots and lots

of land for very little money

so they had these big farms and ranches

far away from each other

which could be a little lonely oh dear

lonely isn't a nice feeling the farmer

in this next video

hailed his loneliness by taking in lots

of pets

and then he wasn't lonely anymore right

let's watch villainy

[Music]

[Music]

me

and i feel like

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

well i bought me a monkey and the monkey

blazed me i fed my monkey on the tree

[Music]

is

[Music]
