No!

I'm Eli Roth.

I've spent my life

telling horror stories.

But imagine if those

stories were real,

and suddenly,

you found yourself stalked

and tormented by an evil spirit,

and no one believed you.

I wasn't going insane.

[man] It makes

you feel helpless.

It was terrifying.

These are the actual

tales of terror,

as told by you, the victim,

who came face to face

with their demons

and survived.

[producer talking in background]

[Brianna] Our house

was passed down

by the women of my

family to my mom.

It seemed normal,

it seemed like any other house.

Even though it's been about

five and a half years since

I've lived in that house,

I still get nightmares.

You're watching

A Ghost Ruined My Life.

It seemed like something

I was completely terrified.

I remember staring

at her terrified

I couldn't move

thinking to myself

that when she

lifts her head up

that something

bad is gonna happen.

Did you hear that?

- [mother] Hear what?

- [Brianna] That scream!

[father]

I didn't hear anything.

Maybe it was cats

fighting outside.

No, it wasn't cats,

it was inside the house,

and the chair moved

and I saw her!

Sweetie, you must

have had a nightmare.

No, I didn't!

[father] Can we talk about

this in the morning, please?

You never listen to me!

You don't believe

anything I say!

It was very difficult to not

be believed by my parents.

They told me that it

was just a bad dream,

that everything was

gonna be okay,

and just to go back to sleep.

But I couldn't go back to

sleep after that was happening

'cause I felt like

in the corner of the bedroom,

she was still there standing,

waiting for me

to fall asleep again

so she could get me.

I would hear things being thrown

and bashed against the wall,

things thrown from the

cabinets, things getting broken,

glasses being shattered.

And sometimes if I was

in the living room,

I could see one of the cabinets

just slowly creaking open

out of the corner of my eye

and then I turn to it and then

it would close shut again.

[music playing in car]

Okay, so, you're home.

What, was is it?

It's nothing, you must

have had a nightmare.

[Brianna] I felt very

helpless and alone.

And I feel like

that's exactly what

the spirits in that house

wanted from the beginning.

To tear me down.

take over.

- They're terrible.

I'm so scared.

Shh.

Do you believe in God?

You know I do.

Is that why this is happening?

Because I don't believe?

No, sweetheart.

Mom, what's going on?

It's nothing.

You just need some sleep.

I definitely felt like

there were moments where

my mother knew

what was going on,

but she wouldn't tell me.

It was very isolating,

and I was a little depressed.

I thought that maybe

I deserved this.

[mother] Brianna!

Don't bring that in here.

Do you know what this is?

Tell me!

Take that outside!

[screaming] Now!

Mom, please.

What's going on?

My mother told me

that she also had experiences

of the paranormal

growing up in that house.

There was a child that

would come to her at night,

it was charred,

and it would stare at her

from the bottom of the bed.

[thunder clapping]

[Brianna] And so, when she

went to go see a bruja,

basically like a witch doctor

she told them that yes, indeed,

that they had a curse put on their

bloodline and their family

[thunder clapping]

[Brianna]and the only

way to get rid of that

was to get a piece

of all of their hair

a vile with all

of their blood in it

put it into a purse

like a little bag

put it into the earth.

She also advised my aunt

to carve into their skin

a cross on their wrist

to cleanse them of the curse

that had been put

on their family.

Argh!

We did have family members

who had passed in that house.

Was someone trying to send

a message from the other side

or even maybe just

trying to harm us?

I don't know if I'll ever know.

Why didn't you

tell me this before?

I wanted to protect you.

And I was hoping

that maybe it

would pass over you.

None of us have ever been

able to make sense of this.

But there must be

something we can do?

We can't just let this

control our family.

Maybe there is.

[Brianna] Tia Luz.

So, you know?

Argh!

Did it hurt?

Yes.

I thought it was gone.

I'm so sorry, mija.

My aunt decided to do

an egg cleanse on me.

It's where you take an egg

and you drag it across

and depending

on how the egg looks

when you break it

into a cup of water

is how you can tell if someone

had wished evil on you.

[whispering in Spanish]

Do not look at

the egg as we crack it.

Only look into the water

afterwards.

[Brianna] The egg cleanse

is what caused the entity

to get more upset.

We heard

this blood curdling scream,

and I remember

looking at my mom,

and seeing her scared

and not trying to hide it.

I definitely could feel that

she was on edge a lot more.

She

Especially 'cause

this happened in

not even in night time,

this happened in broad daylight.

The fact that we both saw it

really affirmed that this

was real and happening

and that it was

trying to terrify us.

Constantly trying

to hurt us in some way

whether that was physically or

mentally or even spiritually.

To have my mom confirm to me

that she also was

going through this

and that she also was feeling

the same things I was feeling,

seeing the same

things I was feeling

was very comforting.

Especially in a time where

I feel like I most needed it.

To feel heard and seen

and to feel validated

for my experiences

in that house.

Everything seemed to calm down.

I wasn't hearing things anymore

or seeing things.

I could finally get some sleep.

It seemed like there was finally

an ending to this torment.

I was excited

to have a baby sister,

but I hoped and I prayed

that she wouldn't

be seeing or hearing

all the things that I did.

Hi!

Remember this?

[Brianna] Oh, my God,

Sam's gonna love it.

[mother] I know.

[Brianna] Oh, my! Mom!

Mr. Pookie!

- [Brianna laughing]

[father] Mmm.

Uh-oh. What happened?

Nah.

Let me see.

- [Brianna] Oh, my gosh.

But

the longer that

my mom was pregnant,

the more that

it became apparent

that it might be

the same way

that it was with me.

Just because it seemed like

the things that would

happen late at night

were now happening in the

light of day more frequently,

making itself known even more.

[baby whimpering]

[pained struggling]

[Brianna] I was scared,

but I was also getting

a little fed up.

It started to get worse

and worse and worse.

Look who's home!

[father]

Bri, you wanna take her?

Yeah!

Hi, there!

Welcome to the family.

[baby giggling]

[gasping]

[exhaling deeply]

Hi!

I was completely determined

to not let whatever

this thing was win.

I got holy water

from the church,

and some incense,

and I was so excited because

I thought this was going to be

some protection for myself

and something that was gonna

protect my baby sister.

[baby crying]

Be back in ten, just gonna

grab something for dinner.

All good, Mom, bye.

Yeah!

[crying]

[Brianna] Leave.

Let this sacred holy water

and smoke keep us safe.

[baby crying]

Shh, shh, shh.

Hey!

Hi!

Hi, there!

Yeah!

[loud bang]

[baby screaming]

[rattling]

[baby crying]

[baby screaming]

[Brianna shouting] No!

[Brianna screaming]

This is my home,

this is my family,

you're not welcome here!

This is my home,

this is my family,

you're not welcome here!

This is my home,

this is my family,

you're not welcome here!

[rattling]

[glass smashing]

[Brianna weeping]

That was the icing

on the cake for us.

We both knew

that if we don't leave

that it might get a lot worse.

When we were finally

moving out of the house,

I definitely had

a little bit of a

I would say mixed

feelings about it,

bittersweetness about it

knowing that

this was my childhood home,

this was my first house.

I was sad about leaving

but I was so ready

to begin a new chapter,

and to let that part of my life

be closed forever.

I have my great-aunt

do spiritual cleansings,

energy cleanses

on me when needed.

I make little charm bags

to protect me

while I'm sleeping.

I don't watch a lot

of horror movies.

I feel like I lived it,

and I don't really want

to relive it again.

I wanted to let others know

who may be feeling isolated,

who may be feeling

like they're alone

and like they're going crazy

you're not alone,

that these things do happen

and that others have gone through

the same that you have gone through.

Don't let these entities

dictate your life

'cause that's exactly

what they want.

[Eli speaking]
