05x42 - Beauty Is Skin Deep

Post by bunniefuu »

male narrator: As our heroes
closed in on Blackthorn City,

they discovered
a rare Dratini,

as well as the fierce Gyarados
that was its protector.

Soon after,
they met Clair,

the Blackthorn City Gym leader
who had previously trained

with Lance of the Pokémon G-Men.

When Ash challenged Clair
to a gym battle she agreed,

but said that first she must
perform an age-old

Blackthorn
purification ritual.

Now, with its completion
behind her,

the battle for Ash's eighth
and final badge

can finally begin.

- [singing]
Pokémon!

- No time to question
my moves

I stick to the path
that I choose

Me and my friends
are gonna do it right

You'll never see us
run away from a fight

To be a master
is my dream

All I've got to do
is believe

- I believe

- I've got a chance
to win

I'm on my way
to victory

- Pokémon!
- I can be a champion

If I just believe

I'm on a master quest

- Master quest

- I want the whole world
to see

- I believe

- I'm gonna be
the very best

'Cause all I've got to do
is believe in me

- Pokémon!

- The Blackthorn gym battle
between Ash of Pallet Town

and gym leader Clair
will now begin.

When all of one trainer's
Pokémon are unable to continue,

the match is over.

- Each trainer will be allowed
the maximum usage

of three Pokémon,

but during the course of battle
only the challenger

will be able to substitute
one Pokémon for another.

- Here we go.

We've waited a long time
for this,

so let's make it a great one.
- Pika.

- Battling a Dragon trainer
won't be easy.

Wouldn't you know that his
battle for the eighth badge

would also turn out to be
his most difficult one?

- I hope that Ash
will be all right.

- Ha. Don't worry.

Ash didn't get those other seven
badges for nothing, you know.

I'm sure he'll do
just fine.

- Let the match begin!

- Ready or not, here I come.

- Kingdra, go.

- [roars]

- Kingdra's the evolved form
of Seadra, a Water type.

Pikachu will be the perfect
choice.

What do you say, buddy?
Are you ready to go?

- Pika. Pika!

- So, you're starting
with Pikachu.

Let's just see how
you'll handle yourself.

- Your Kingdra's not gonna like
an Electric attack.

Pikachu, give them your
Thunderbolt attack now.

- Pikachu!

- All right!
- Yeah, that was a direct hit.

- [growls]

- Looks like Pikachu's
Thunderbolt didn't do anything.

- I know.
That Electric attack

should have done
a lot of damage.

- Now, Kingdra, Twister.

- [roars]

- Pika?
- Pikachu, look out.

Dodge it.
- Pika!

- What's that attack?

- That tornado is following
Pikachu's every move.

- That's the way to do it,
Kingdra.

Keep up the good work.

- Clair's Kingdra
seems to be able

to control the direction
that its tornado is going.

- Ah!
- Pikachu.

- Pika!
- Pikachu, are you okay, pal?

- Pika.

- All right, this time we're
gonna try a Thunder attack.

- Pikachu!

Pika?

- Hey, what's the deal?

Not one of Pikachu's
Electric attacks are working.

- You don't get it yet?

That attack we used:

Kingdra used Twister,
which is an attack

that comes from a Dragon type
Pokémon.

- How'd it use a Dragon type
attack?

- Hold on. Seadra may be
a Water Pokémon,

but when it evolves
into a Kingdra

it gains the traits
of a Dragon type.

- So that's why those Electric
attacks didn't do anything.

- That's right.

Electric attacks are Water
Pokémon's greatest weakness.

But its Dragon Pokémon traits
more than make up for that.

- Oh, now I see.

- If I may say so, Clair,

you could be right
about Kingdra,

but that Pikachu
is very strong.

- Agreed. Your Pikachu has taken
Kingdra's Twister head-on

and is still ready
to fight.

You have earned my respect.

Go, Kingdra. Hydro Pump.

- Pikachu, counter it
with Thunderbolt.

- Pikachu!

- Well, now, that was a creative
and unusual defense:

using a Thunderbolt.

- Using Pikachu's Electric
attacks aren't gonna be enough.

I've just gotta think
of something else.

- Hmm. The sky. So blue.

Like my little Dratini.

It's gone.

My Dratini is now gone
for good.

I wish I could see that cute
little Pokémon's face again.

- Someone looking
for a cute little Pokémon?

- Just leave me alone.

I'll never
be happy again.

- Then I guess your favorite
jelly donuts

couldn't possibly
cheer you up.

- Ah! Donuts.

Well, my heart may be broken,
but my belly's not.

Yum!
- Wobbuffet.

- But what really eats me up
is that gym leader.

How dare she take a perfectly
good Dratini and make it evolve?

Oh, I'll teach her
a lesson or three.

- Looks like Jessie is back.

- Now let's get down
to business.

- I bet you already figured out
a way to steal that Dragonair.

- Ha! I'd rather give up
jelly donuts.

- Huh?
- What do you mean, Jess?

- Dratini rules,
and Dragonair is for fools.

- That donut
broke your brain.

Dragonair's gonna bring us
big bucks.

- You can keep your big bucks.
I don't care.

I won't rest until I show
that selfish gym leader

the depths
of total despair.

Oh, let her taste
my sorrow and my pain.

- Wobbuffet.

- Better give me
that donut.

- I do think we've had enough
sugar for one day.

- You want me to put a hole
in this donut with your head?

All I wanted was that darling
Dratini to keep me warm

on the coldest
of winter nights.

But no, she has to turn
that doll into a dragon

and leave me doomed to dwell
in eternal agony.

- Wobbuffet.

- Such a woeful tale.
We feel your pain.

Don't get sad, get even.

Here's your consolation prize.

- Oh, what is it?

- It's the rare, one-of-a-kind
Dragon Fang.

It's stored at the gym,

and everything around here

is named after this Fang-amajig.

And it's ripe
for the taking.

A treasure replete
with history and value.

- I see.

So, if we were to steal it...

- I'll tell you what
if we do.

It's one less feather
in the cap of that gym leader.

- But before we begin...

I'll just have a few more
of these.

What? It can't be.
They're all gone.

Oh, no. I can't go stealing
priceless treasure

on an empty stomach.

Hey, who stole my donuts?

- Not me.

That jelly goes
right to my thighs.

- And I'm on a low-carb diet.

[Wobbuffet squawks]

- Huh?
- You're sounding pretty guilty.

- Huh? Huh?

Wobbu. Wobbuffet.

- Yeah, fess up.

- You ate donuts?

- Wobbu! Wobbu, Wobbu, Wobbu!

- Wobbuffet!
- Wobbuffet!

- Wobbuffet!

- [roars]

- Pikachu, Quick attack now.

- Pika!

[pants]

Pika?

- [growls]

- Ah! Direct attacks don't seem
to be working on it either.

- Ash, maybe you should
try battling

with another one
of your Pokémon besides Pikachu.

- She's right, Ash.

The challenger's allowed
to substitute his Pokémon.

- Yeah. Guess I kind of forgot.

Pikachu, return.

- Pika.

- Go, Noctowl.

- [chirps]

- I'm counting on you,
Noctowl.

Let's give that Kingdra a sample
of your psychic attacks.

all: Take it easy.

Very quiet. Take it easy.

- Doesn't appear
to be anyone around.

- Now only this door
separates us from our wealth.

- Yes, but that is one
nasty-looking padlock.

- [chuckles]

I just so happen to have brought
my lock-picking tools with me.

- Kingdra, Hydro Pump now.

- Dodge it, Noctowl. Now.

- [growls]
- [chirps]

- All right, Noctowl.
Confusion.

- Kingdra, what's wrong?

- Yeah.
Kingdra is floating away.

- Good job.
That's the way to do it, Ash.

- Toge, Toge.

- All right, Noctowl,
this time send Kingdra flying.

- [chirps]

- Kingdra, Hydro Pump now.

- Oh, no.

- Kingdra fired its Hydro Pump
at the wall.

- And by doing that,

it allowed Kingdra
to brake in midair.

- Noctowl, this time
use Hypnosis.

- Kingdra, time for Agility.

- [chirps]

- Look, Brock, I didn't think
Kingdra were able

to move that quickly
on land.

- Togepi.

- Clair's raised
that Kingdra so well

that nothing surprises me
at this point.

- Pika.
- What's going on?

Noctowl's Hypnosis doesn't seem
to be working either.

- Ash, it's Kingdra's speed.

Hypnosis won't work

unless Kingdra looks Noctowl
right in the eye.

- But right now
it's just moving so fast

that Noctowl can't keep up.

- All right, then.

I'll just think of something
else that'll work.

- Who's that Pokémon?

It's Octillery.

- Ta-da.

- Wow.

- That's some slick picking,
Meowth.

- Ruining that gym leader's rep
will be a pleasure.

- Not to mention
the mounds of money

when we sell that treasure.

- It's almost too easy.

- What are we waiting for?
Let's grab it.

- Not so fast.
- Huh?

- This was your idea,
so what's the glitch?

- Hmm. Well, I just have
this feeling.

Ah-ha. Just as I suspected.

An infrared security system.

- Darn it.

- So near to that treasure,

and yet so far away.

- [laughs]

- I've prepared
for this eventuality.

Meet the Agile Handy Andy.

- A glove?

- The digits on this
delightful dandy

are dexterous enough to make
the most challenging problems

child's play.

- Ooh, I've gotta hand it to you
this time, James.

- Then let's quit the gabbing
and let's get grabbing.

- Stand by and observe.

- [laughs]

Steady. Up. Now down.

- Excuse me, Jessie?

- You're interrupting,
Meowth.

- But you can't see
no infrared line.

- This sort of thing happens

when you're
a natural born leader.

- Steady, Andy. Steady.

- Um, I just had a thought.

What if you and Handy Andy
go to all of this trouble

and the box is filled
with nothing but air?

- We'd both break down
and cry.

- So wouldn't you like
to make sure now?

- Of course, but how?

- Well, it wouldn't do any harm
if we have one little peek.

- I guess not.

Even if the box is empty,

I could use it
to hold my baseball cards.

- Go, Kingdra.
Hydro Pump, now.

- Ah! Noctowl, no.

- Pika.

- Oh, no.
Noctowl, hang in there.

- Togepi.
- Poor Ash.

There doesn't seem to be
any way to land a hit.

I knew it would be
a tough battle,

but I had no idea
how tough.

- Once they gain Dragon-type
traits,

your Pokémon will have abilities
that you'd never even imagine.

This would be your very
last badge, Ash.

I'm sure you knew
it wouldn't be easy.

Kingdra, finish it up
with Hydro Pump.

- [snarls]

- Noctowl, try and hang on.

- There it is.
One pricey Dragon Fang.

- Beautiful.
A dream come true.

- Yeah. And this dream
is about to become

that gym leader's
worst nightmare.

- Wobb!

- [alarm sounding]

- [gasps]
- What's that?

What's making
that buzzing sound?

- Pika.

- Hurry, Clair.

I'm afraid there might be
intruders in the Treasure Room.

- No! The Blackthorn
Dragon Fang.

Let's go.
all: Ah!

- Bye.
- Gotta run.

- Team Rocket!
- Pikachu!

- Say, nice to see
you twerps again.

- Check it out.

We've already got
what we came for,

so we won't be needing
to mess with you this time.

- Oh, no.
The Dragon Fang.

- We've got to get it back
right away.

- Hey, look.

Let's grab that boat
and leave them in our wake.

all: Yay!

- Off...
- We go.

- Stop!

- No. If you hadn't forced
my Dratini to evolve,

none of this would
have been necessary.

- But as it stands,
we stand to soak some sucker

for some serious cash.

- Wobbuffet.

- So sayonara,
and fangs a lot.

- Don't be too sure
about that.

Dragonair, go!

- [wails]

- Okay, Dragonair.
Follow them.

- Miss Clair,
wait for me.

- Come on. We have to go too.
- How?

- Totodile, I choose you.

- Staryu and Politoed,
you too.

- Politoed.

- Brock, go ahead
and jump on Staryu.

- Uh, right.

- All right, Totodile,
follow Team Rocket.

- Totodile.

- This is a whole new
experience.

- Politoed. Politoed. Politoed.
Politoed.

- Politoed, this really
isn't the time for applause.

- Poli?
- So go on.

Let's go get Team Rocket.

- You won't get away
with it.

- Give back
that Dragon Fang.

- You know, those twerps have
gotten on my last nerve.

- Hurry up, Gramps.
Put the pedal to the metal.

- But Jess,
we're maxed out.

- Then you get out and push
this tub if you have to.

- Hey, let's hightail it
in there.

- Least it's nice and dark.

- Good thinking.

Nobody would want to follow us
into that dreadful place.

- All righty, in we go.

- What?
- Miss Clair,

they actually went straight
into the Dragon's den.

- Is that a problem?
- Pika?

- We'll see.
Dragonair, follow them.

- Wow, check it out.

- So this is what Dragons
called home, huh?

- It's creepy.
I don't think I like this.

- This den is incredibly
complex.

There's a whole maze
of tunnels here

said to have been created by
Dragons hundreds of years ago.

If we find our way
out of here,

we should be able
to enter the Dragon's Holy Land

where I once trained
with Lance.

- What do you mean
if we get out of here?

- Pika, Pika?

- Listen to me.

The Dragon's Holy Land
is a Pokémons' paradise.

We cannot allow hooligans such
as Team Rocket in to defile it.

- Of course. I know that.

- I pledge to you
right here and now,

I will get that Dragon Fang back
no matter what.

Or at least give it
my best shot.

[cackles]

[all groan]

- Great, we get to hear
more lame jokes.

- Wow, I can't see a thing.

- Now, Dragonair, could you
please give us some light?

- [squeaks]

- Okay, be careful,
everyone.

- Clair, there's a fork
up ahead.

Wonder which one of them
Team Rocket took?

- Pika.

- Actually, that'll be easy
for us to figure out.

- How?
- Dragonair will be able to tell

by the flow of water
which way they went.

- [howls]

- Not bad. We threw them
completely off the trail.

- So long, suckers.

- So, James, how much money
do you think we'll get

for this fang thing?

- I've heard there are
kooky collectors out there

who will pay big bucks
for knickknacks like that.

The trick is to find
the kookiest.

I'll find the buyer and take
care of all negotiations.

- Way to go, Jimmy.

- I don't care about
all of that bunk.

Just remember we want
top dollar.

- Before anything can happen,
we got to get out of this cave.

- I forgot to grab a visitor's
guidebook on the way in.

- [water rushing]

- Huh?
What's that sound?

all: Look out below!

- [screaming]

- Uh-oh. Another fork.

- Dragonair, which way
did Team Rocket go?

- [coos]

- Yeah? You're saying
they went to the right?

- You know what that means,
Clair.

If they get over those falls

they'll be in the Dragon's
Holy Land.

- We really have
to hurry then.

I'm afraid of what Team Rocket
could do down there.

- Pika.

- [chattering]

- Looks like Team Rocket's
blasting off!

- Huh?
- Or maybe not.

- [coos]

- Hello there.
- Dragonite, sir.

- I hope we didn't drop in
at a bad time or nothing.

- [grunts]

- Uh, Meowth.
- Translation, please.

- It's saying we looked like we
could use a little bit of help.

- [sighs]
- Awfully kind of you,

and your timing
is just impeccable.

- Look around you.

This certainly
is a tranquil place.

- Even someone like me
could find inner peace here.

- Well, I just got to say,
Dragonite,

you're a real
stand-up Pokémon.

- Hey.

No offense meant,
but you are invading my space.

- Dragonite can smell that
Dragon Fang from inside the box.

- Huh?
- If that Dragonite turns on us

then we are toast.

- Okay, so let's use this
to our advantage.

Hey there, Dragonite.

Perhaps you'd care to help us
out with this Dragon Fang.

We was actually trying
to protect it by running away

from these really bad people who
wanna steal it for themselves.

Understand? Perhaps you'd care
to help us out.

Would you, please?

- Aah, it's brilliant.

- If you can't beat them,
join them I always say.

- It's been an honest
but long, hard road for us.

- It's not easy
doing the right thing,

but doing the right thing
we must do, mustn't we?

- We are weary
of running.

Weary of those awful people who
wanna steal this Dragon Fang.

- Oh, won't you please help us
to protect it?

- Please take care of those bad,
mean people.

- [whimpers]

- If those awful folks set one
foot upon this beautiful land,

I shudder to think
what could happen here.

- All of these Pokémon...

[sobs]

...doomed to a life of sl*very
and servitude

with no hope of freedom.

- Showing no respect
for the land.

- And chasing away
the Pokémon.

- Oh, my dear,
sweet Dragonite.

- You must do what is right.

- Fight the noble fight.

- Does that mean you'll help?
You'll join this worthy cause?

- The world will
thank you.

- So when those bad people
get here, you give them what for

and smack them
into next week.

- [roars]

- [chattering]

- So this is the Dragon's
Holy Land.

- What a beautiful place.

- If we don't find Team Rocket
it won't stay that way long.

Let's split up
and track them down.

- We'll find them, Clair.

- Pikachu.

- What's that?

It's the twerps.

Those wicked people.

- Those bad apples.
Those bent on destruction.

- Go forward, Dragonite.

- [howls]

- Pika!
- Whoa!

- What do you think that was,
Miss Clair?

- Let's go. Quickly.

- Two, four, six, eight,
who do we appreciate?

Dragonite. Dragonite.
- Yeah!

- Dragonite and Team Rocket?

- Hate to say it,
but I think that Hyper Beam

was meant for us.

- But that would mean
Dragonite's

on Team Rocket's side.

- Pika, Pika.

- Say there, Dragonite.
Just one more teensy Hyper Beam?

- [howls]

- But they didn't
go boom yet.

- Oh, no, it's helping them
to get away.

- What's going on
with that Dragonite?

- Everyone okay?

- Yeah, we're fine.

- Wish we could say the same
for Dragonite.

- I saw the whole thing.

- That poor Dragonite belonged

to the first Blackthorn Gym
leader,

and has never been the same
since its trainer left it.

- Wow, that's really sad.

- Maybe it's just lonely,

and that's why it joined up
with Team Rocket.

- Well, I think we need
to keep following them.

And, maybe we can help out
that Dragonite too.

- Yes. And we've got no time
to lose.

- [distant growling]
- Huh?

- Something's coming this way,
and it's coming fast.

- What do you think
that thing could be?

narrator:
And so as our heroes prepare

to locate Dragonite
and Team Rocket,

a mysterious and imposing figure
draws steadily closer.

Do Ash and friends
have reason to fear,

or to cheer?

[singing]
- There's no time

To question my moves

I stick to the path
that I choose

Me and my friends
are gonna do it right

To be a Master is my dream

All I've got to do is believe

And I believe

I'm on a Master Quest

Master Quest

I want the whole world to see

And I believe

I'm gonna be the very best

'Cause all I've got to do

Is believe in me
