04x38 - The Poké-Spokesman

Post by bunniefuu »

narrator: Our heroes
trudge ever onward

as they continue the journey

to the Johto League Gym
in Olivine City.

But today one of them
seems particularly exhausted.

- Pi...
Pika.

- Pikachu seems all tired out.

- Yeah, you do look
a little weak.

- Pika!

[grunts]

- Something's wrong.
- Hmm.

Maybe Pikachu's just tired

from walking
through the mountains all day.

- Pika...
- That isn't it.

- Huh?

- The soil in this area

contains minerals
that absorb electrical energy.

- How can minerals
absorb energy?

- Very easily.

That Pikachu belong to you?

- Uh, yes, it does, sir.

- Pika, pika, pika?

- Pika?

- Pika, pika, pika.

Pika, pi, Pikachu!

Pika, pika, pi?

- Pika.
Pikachu!

- Just as I suspected:

Your friend's
lost a lot of energy,

and if you don't
do something fast,

it'll collapse.

I have a little rest stop
down the road a bit.

Follow me.

Pika, pika?

- Pika!

- I'm afraid your friend's
too weak to walk there.

- How did you know that?
How can you tell?

- Because that's
what Pikachu told me.

- Pikachu told you?

- Well, yes.

I happen to speak
fluent Pokèmon.

[all screaming]

- Pika!

- [singing]
Pokémon, Pokémon, Pokémon

- Let's do it.

I wanna be the very best

Like no one ever was

Ever was, ever was

To catch them is my real test

To train them is my cause

My whole life has led to this

Time to test my skills

I know I just can't miss

Gonna show the world

Born to be a winner

- Johto

- Born to be a champion

Born to be a winner

Born to be the very best

- Pokémon
- Johto

- Born to be a winner

Pokémon

[both exhale deeply]

- It's so nice to have

a relaxing,
refreshing cup of tea.

- And with these outfits,

we got
the senior citizen discount.

Unfortunately,
we're nearly out of money again,

and we have to think of a way
to get some!

- Don't worry.
I'll think of somethin'.

But I think a lot better
after I eat!

[munching]

Agh!
Here come the twerps!

- We'd better hide!

both: Right!

- Once you get
to the bottom of the mountain,

you'll find a Pokèmon Center,

and you can have Nurse Joy
do all her medical tests.

But for now,
you can use my rest stop here

and recharge
Pikachu's electricity reserves.

- How do we recharge Pikachu?

- It's simple.
You do it yourself.

- Huh?

- I see.

We use the bicycle

to generate electricity.

- That gizmo will
pep your little friend right up!

- Great!

[electronic warbling]
- Pika.

- Here we go, Pikachu!

[grunts]

- Pika!

- If you have
any other electric types,

they're gonna need
recharging too.

- Pikachu's
our only electric type.

- I guess
I can't charge very much

for just one bicycle boost.

- We have to pay
for recharging Pikachu?

- Well, naturally there's a fee
for using my bicycle,

and then there's my Pokèmon
interpreting fee.

both: You charge
a Pokèmon interpreting fee?

- Well, it is an unusual skill,

and I only do it
to cover the expense

of maintaining
the rest stop here,

but I should have told you
from the beginning

that I charge for my services,

so I won't this time.

- That's an interesting
little tidbit.

- Pikachu's low on electricity?

- Let's see, shall we?

both: Greetings!

- Ow!

- Hey, what's the big idea?

- Prepare for trouble,
whatever you do.

- I know. I know.
- Huh?

- Just give me a second,

and I'll get you
another pot of tea!

[tea pot whistling]
- Hmph.

I'm afraid that a pot of tea

will not prevent
trouble from brewing!

- We don't want tea, old man.

We want that Pikachu!

- Pikachu may be low on energy,
but we're full of it!

- Yeah!
- [growls]

- Ah!

- Team Rocket!

- Hey.

I got an idea!

- What kind of idea?

- We got to have a huddle.
both: Mm?

- That old guy,

he says he can understand
Pokèmon talk!

I never heard of a human
who could do that, did you?

both: Huh?
- Not me.

- Not me.

- Hey, old man.

We've never
heard of any non-Pokèmon

who could understand Pokèmon.

- Is it true?

Can you really speak
their language?

- [scoffs]

I communicate
with all Pokèmon.

If you don't believe me,
ask Pikachu.

Right, Pikachu?

Pi?
Pika, pi?

- Pika!
Pika. Pikachu.

- Agh, I can't hear
what they're sayin'!

- What are you trying
to say to us, Pikachu?

- Pika! Pika!
Pikachu...

- Save your energy, Pikachu.

It's almost impossible
for most people

to understand
Pokèmon language.

- That's true, Simon!
- Huh?

- I don't believe
you understand it either!

- It's Officer Jenny!

both: The cops!

- I'm placing you under arrest

for conducting
a Pokèmon scam.

- For a Pokèmon scam?

- We've been getting
a lot of complaints lately

about somebody in this area
who swindles money from trainers

by claiming to be
a Pokèmon interpreter.

And our old friend Simon here
fits that description perfectly!

- I am a Pokèmon interpreter.
I haven't swindled anybody!

- Can you prove it, Simon?

- Ask the Pokèmon.
They'll tell you!

- That's the beauty
of your little scam,

isn't it, Simon?

I could question that Pokèmon
all day,

but Pokèmon can't understand
human speech

or speak it either!

- Well, that shows
how much you know.

- Say...
both: Huh?

- Haven't I...

seen you somewhere before?

- Oh, you're mistaking us
for some other criminals!

- That's right,
and we're certainly not members

of any horrible g*ng
like Team Rocket!

- I knew it!
[all groan]

- I knew those costumes
you're wearing looked familiar,

but I couldn't remember
where I'd...

- See ya!
[all yelling]

- Hey!
Hold it!

[all screaming]

- [coughs]
So they're your accomplices!

- I don't know them!

- Did you guys do this?
- Of course not.

Why would we launch smoke bombs
at ourselves, twerp?

- Maybe it was
a disgruntled victim.

- Who cares who did it?
Let's get out of here!

- Wobbuffet!

- Hurry!
Before they see us!

- Halt!
[coughs]

You're under...
[coughs]

[gasps]

They got away!

- I wouldn't worry about
those losers, Officer Jenny.

But that Simon got away too.

- I guess he was
just a big faker after all.

- [coughing]
Pika...

- Pikachu inhaled
lots of smoke!

- Let's get it
to the Pokèmon Center

so Nurse Joy can treat it.

Hop in.
It's just down the hill.

I'll take you myself.
- Thanks!

[car doors closing]
[siren blares]

- That was a pretty close call.

- But we got away.
- Huh?

Hey, look down there!
both: Hmm?

- It's the old man!

- Who are those other men?

- They must be the ones
with the smoke bombs.

- Maybe we ought to follow 'em
and see what's goin' on.

- So you're the guy
who really talks Pokèmon.

I heard a lot about you.

- And you're
the phony interpreters

the police are looking for!

You should be ashamed
of yourselves!

- Come down off of that
high horse of yours, pops.

You're fakin' it just like us,

and we're all in it
for the money.

- I only use
my interpreting skills

to help Pokèmon in trouble,

and I only charge the trainers

so I can afford
to keep my rest stop open.

- Well, if you're so honest,

I'm sure you wouldn't mind
provin' it for the police.

- [grunts]
- [laughing]

We got
this whole intrepretin' scam

figured out just like you do.

We just stick to the basics.

- "Your Pokèmon says
you're an awesome trainer!"

- "Could I please have
some more Pokèmon food?"

- "I'm a Pidgey.
I like flying!"

- We say the stuff we know
the trainers want to hear,

and we take 'em
for all that they're worth.

- If they can make money
at interpreting, why can't we?

We'll just pretend
we know what they're saying!

- What could Pokèmon say
that would be important anyway?

- [growls]
What's that supposed to mean?

At least Pokèmon
speak with honor and integrity!

- My, my, my.

What's got your fur up
in a ball, Meowth?

- First of all,
I resent the degradin' way

them bums
is fakin' the ability

to understand and translate
Pokèmon talk into human.

At least I took the trouble
so I could to learn

to understand human talk
for real.

That's 'cause, unlike humans,
Pokèmon don't lie!

- But, Meowth, James and I
know a certain Pokèmon

who's one of the biggest
little liars ever.

- Wobbuffet!

- Yeah?
And who might that be?

both: Mm...

- Huh?

I guess I am a liar.

But before I learned
how to talk human,

I was honest and trustworthy
just like every other Pokèmon.

Sometimes I wish
I was never cursed

with such intelligence
and ability!

[gasps]

- No!

I'll never join
your band of thieves!

- That's an extremely
unfortunate decision

because it puts us
in a very awkward position.

Now that you know who we are,
we can't let you go.

- That old man's
in big trouble.

- What should we do?

- It'd be risky
to try and rescue

the ol' geezer
from them mugs,

but it'd be worth the risk

if he can understand
what Pokèmon say!

- A human with that talent
could make money.

- You're right.

- Then what are we waiting for?

- Just hang in there,
Pikachu.

- The recharge was a success!

Your Pikachu should be
back to normal by morning.

- That's great, Nurse Joy.
Thanks!

- You were lucky
you got here when you did.

- Yeah, thanks for the lift,
Officer Jenny!

- Well, good luck
on your journey, kids.

- I wonder
if Professor Oak's still awake.

- Humans who can speak
and understand Pokèmon language

aren't entirely unheard of...

in legends and fairy tales,
that is.

But it appears
there aren't any real life cases

I can find
in my textbooks.

- I was afraid of that.

Well, thanks.
Good Night.

- Anytime, Ash.
[transmission ending]

- I guess Simon
really was a phony.

- Maybe I was...
in a way.

But in my heart, I know
I can understand Pokèmon

and they can understand me.

- Officer Jenny's
looking for you, Simon.

- I'm headed
to the police station now,

but I was worried
about your Pikachu's health,

so I came here first.

Pika?
Pika, pika?

Pi, pika, pika, pi?

- Pikachu.

- I'm so glad to hear
you're feeling better, Pikachu.

That's good news,
very good news.

- Please tell us.

- Can you really understand
what the Pokèmon say?

- Not actual words.

Sometimes I think I can,
but mostly it's just a feeling.

But long ago,
there was a day

when the Pokèmon and I
understood each other perfectly.

- Huh?

- Who's that Pokèmon?

It's Wooper!

- Oopah!

- The skies that day

were just like the skies
are right now.

- When was this?

- It's been years,

but it seems like yesterday.

[lighting crackles]

There was
a terrible storm raging,

and I was standing in the field
mesmerized by the giant tornado

that was headed straight
for our little farmhouse.

All of a sudden...

- [grunts]

- Agh!

- I'm going next door
to check on the neighbors.

Don't come out of here
no matter what!

- [whimpers]
Daddy!

Daddy!
Come back!

[screams]

Daddy...
please come back.

Please.

[sniffling]

- [cooing]

- Rattata!
Rattata!

- Oddish!
- Rattata!

- [gasps]
Pokèmon voices...

Who's there?

- [cooing]
Pidgey.

- Rattata.

- And Oddish.

- You're Pokèmon...

but I can understand
what you're saying!

- Of course.

- That's right.

- What's your name?

- I can't believe it.

I can talk to you,
and you can talk to me!

- Whenever you're sad...
- Or alone...

- And you don't have
any friends around...

- Just call.
We can talk anytime!

- It's kind of boring down here.

- But now we have someone new
to talk to!

- Yeah, now we can talk
all the time!

- You'll have to listen too.
- Pidgey talks a lot!

- I do not!
- [laughs]

[laughing]

I forgot all about the storm.

I talked to those Pokèmon
for what seemed like hours.

I'll never forget it.

It was the most magical day
of my life.

[gasps]

- Hey, There you are!

We been lookin'
all over for you!

- Come on, guys!
Let's go outside!

Huh?
Guys?

Where'd you go?

After the tornado passed,

I saw that our farm
had been destroyed.

And I never saw
those three Pokémon again.

I've never been able
to speak with Pokèmon

like I did that day,

and over the years,

I've sometimes thought

that I imagined the whole thing.

But I never stopped trying
to speak with Pokèmon again.

I've dedicated my whole life

to trying to understand
and communicate with Pokèmon.

I believe with all my heart

that they know
what I'm saying to them

and I know
what they're saying to me.

But maybe all I can really do

is fool myself
and everyone else.

- Maybe so.

- Pika!
- Huh?

Pikachu!

- You should be resting!

- Pikachu...
Pika!

- Pikachu,
are you thanking Simon?

- Pika.

Pi--
Pika! Pika!

- [gasps]

Magnemite!
- And Magneton too!

- They look like
they're getting ready to attack!

- [laughing]
- Huh?

- It's you!

- You got away from us
last time, pops.

But I guarantee
it won't happen again.

- We're not gonna let you
turn us into the cops!

- You're just as bad as we are,
old man!

- We're all con men!

- The old guy's
with the twerps!

And that g*ng of g*ons
is down there talkin' to 'em!

both: They are?

- I am not a con man.

I'm an interpreter!

I do it for the love of Pokèmon!

- For the love of Pokèmon,
eh?

Well, let's see how much
you love these Pokèmon!

[all screaming]
- Magnemite!

- Magnemite!
- Magnemite!

- Magnemite.
- Magnemite!

[all gasping]

- The lights
in the Pokèmon Center!

- That's right.

They're suckin' up
all the electricity!

[laughing]

- Stop this!
- Hmm?

- I have dozens of Pokèmon

being treated in this center,

and we need electricity!

- That's your problem.

We're not goin' anywhere

till we take care
of that old phony!

- Then you'll have to
take care of me too!

- No, Ash.
- Huh?

- This is my responsibility.

I'll talk to the Magnemite
and Magneton.

- But they're Pokèmon.
They won't understand!

- I think they will.

I think they'll understand

because what I have to say
comes from the heart.

I know it.
I feel it.

Please listen to me,
Magnemite and Magneton!

Unless you stop,

the Pokèmon Center
will be without electricity!

- Hey, shouldn't he
be speaking to them in Pokèmon?

- I guess the guy's a fraud
after all.

- Quiet!
I want to hear this!

- Don't think of yourselves.

Think of the Pokèmon
that are in this center!

- Don't waste your breath, pal.

I've kept 'em hungry.

They're starvin'
for electricity!

- I'm the one to blame
for this terrible situation,

so do whatever
you want with me!

I deserve to be punished.

But please have pity
on the innocent creatures

who've been brought here
to this Pokèmon Center.

They're sick and injured.

They need electricity.

Without it, some of them
may not survive the night.

I beg of you.

Consider what
they're going through.

They're your fellow Pokèmon.

And they're in danger.

Please, please,
let them be safe.

- Magnemite.
- Magnemite.

- Magnemite!
- Magnemite.

- Magnemite.
- Magnemite!

- Magnemite.
- Magnemite.

- Hey, what?
- Magnemite.

- They're stopping.
- Magnemite.

- Magnemite.
- Hey, what's going on? What?

- I spoke from my heart,
and they understood me.

[both sobbing]

- He cares.
He really cares!

- I wonder what that feels like!

- Maybe that guy really can't
speak in Pokèmon language,

but he knows how to speak
to a Pokémon's heart.

And I ought to know,
'cause what he said,

it just got straight through
to mine here.

- What's the matter with you?
Don't listen to him.

If you don't suck up
that energy,

you'll all collapse
from lack of power.

Come on.
Get up and do what I tell you.

Let's go!

- Magnemite.
- Magnemite.

- I'll show you who's boss!
[grunts]

- Stop it!
- Pikachu!

- [screams]

Hey, what's goin' on here?

- Magnemite!
Magnemite! Magnemite!

- Magnemite!
- Magnemite!

- Wow, Pikachu re-energized
the Magnemite and Magneton

with its electricity!

- Please, wait.

Let's try to talk this out!

- Magnemite!
- Magnemite!

- Oh, no!
Run!

- Magnemite!
- Magnemite!

[sirens blaring]

- I knew we'd catch up
with you con artists.

You're all under arrest!

- Wait, Officer!
- Huh?

- I'm responsible
for all this!

If you're going to arrest them,
you should arrest me too!

- Simon, Nurse Joy called,

and she told me the whole story.

- Mm-hmm.

- Thank you for saving
the Pokèmon Center!

- Huh?

- And tell the Pokèmon
I said hello.

- Huh?

Ah.

- Pika!

- [laughs]

Everything worked out
for the best!

- If we'd been down there,

we would've been caught
by the police

or been caught up
in that electric attack.

- At least Team Rocket
won't be blasting off this time.

[thunder rumbling]
all: Uh-oh.

- Uh-oh.
A lightning storm.

- And it looks like
it's headed straight for us!

- Wobbuffet!

- Get back in the ball!

- Okay, now, Mr. Storm,
just blow away.

- Please?

[all screaming]

- Just our luck!

all: We're blasting off again!

- Wobbuffet!

- Well, it was nice
to meet you, Pikachu.

But after all this,

I think I'm giving up
Pokèmon interpreting.

- Don't do that.
- Huh?

- You might be close
to a breakthrough!

- You'll never know
if you don't try!

- Keep working at it,
and maybe you will!

- Hmm.
Maybe I will!

- Pikachu!

narrator: Can humans
ever truly understand

the secret language
of Pokèmon?

It's hard to say.

But there's no doubt
that humans and Pokèmon

do truly communicate.

Ash and Pikachu
certainly prove that.

And who knows?

Old Simon just may be
onto something!

- Huh...
A Meowth.

Meow, meow?
- Meow, meow.

- Meow, meow, meow?
- I understand!

- [gasps]
You understand?

Meow, meow?

- Don't give up.
You'll get it!

- You're speaking Pokèmon!

- I'm a Pokèmon, ain't I?

- I think this may be
the big breakthrough

Ash was talking about!

- Meow, meow!

- Meowth, wait!

Meow, meow, meow!

That just happened.
It really happened.

It was just like
when I was a little boy.

I guess I really am
a Pokèmon interpreter!

- Meowth, he believed you!

- How does it feel
to be the good guy

instead of being the bad guy,
Meowth?

- It's kind of nice
for a change!

Meow!

- Let's do it.
