I've never been to Seoraksan before.

CHAPTER 1
WHAT IS HIKING?

So, generally, when we go hiking,
we gauge our energy levels,

and we want to reach the summit at 40%.



And we save 30% of our energy
as a reserve.

When we go hiking, we get hungry. Right?

When we're low on energy,
what should we do?

-Eat.
-We eat.

We need to eat. And it's better to eat
before you get hungry.

Pack your favorite foods you like to eat,

-like trail snacks.
-Yeah.

that may be lower in calories

-that you can eat frequently.

CHAPTER 2
THE LAYERING SYSTEM

[Min-gu] The layering system
can be divided into three stages.

So first, you need a base layer
for sweat discharge.

This layer should be materials
that can easily absorb sweat

and dry quickly to prevent
your body temperature from dropping.

Second, the insulation layer.

This layer is for warmth.

Wear a material
that offers good insulation.

You can also add a light padded jacket,
depending on the conditions.

Third, the protection layer,

which should be wind
and waterproof materials.

This layer is a must have in heavy snow
or in strong winds and rain.

So now, you know the layering system
needed for winter hiking.

Also, remember to pack
plenty of hiking safety gear.

Being well prepared
is key for a winter hike.
