03x35 - Chip's World

Post by bunniefuu »

My Three Sons, starring Fred McMurray,
and as Bub, William Frawley.

So long.

Goodbye, Rob.

Boy, am I glad to see you.

Some clunky guy by the name of Johnny something
or other is coming over to get one of Bub's recipes.

So could you give it to him?

I'm going over there.

Chip, come back here.

These are not some of Bub's recipes.

This happens to be a report I've been
working on for the past three nights.

And the man's name isn't Johnny something
or other, it's Roberts, Mr. John Roberts.

I mean, Johnson.

Robert Johnson.

And he's not some clunky guy, he's a very important
man who's driving all the way over here to pick this up.

Now everyone else is leaving and someone
has to be here to give it to him.

So I don't want you to leave the house.

Now have you got that straight?

Yeah, I'm a prisoner in my own house.

Look, all I'm asking you to do is stay here until he comes

to pick it up and then you can
go over to Sudsy's, all right?

Yeah, but what if the house burns down?

You can call the fire department.

But what if there's an earthquake and the
whole block caves in?

Chipper, you're getting to be a big fella now.

I'm sure you'll be able to handle any
emergencies like that that might come up.

All right, but you're sure messing up my schedule.

Hey, Chip, when you're finished doing what
you're doing, you can wash the dishes.

When you're finished with that,
you can carry out the trash.

Then it won't break my heart if you pick up your room.

Watch it.

Well, no, you don't.

Just because you worked me last week to
take you home doesn't mean you can do it again.

Go ahead and cry.

That won't do any good either.

Okay, okay.

Guess Dad would call this an emergency.

You know, it's too bad you're worried about it.

It's five years older and a boy.

At least we can play catch all the way home.

Advanced.

Saturn booster rocket with the Apollo moon
spacecraft on top.

When this device becomes operational,
the vast world of outer space can be explored.

We see here a boosting device with a
thrust capable of launching our first lunar plane.

All systems are low and the blast off is perfect.

Launching is the most critical moment of
the entire operation.

The use of airs could mean a miss by thousands of miles.

Higher and higher this rocket rises
through the atmosphere, just as our

projected lunar device will carry American
astronauts to the moon.

Now that doesn't mean, however,
that because we are, so to speak,

taking a trip in our own backyard,
that it is without danger.

I'm sorry, Mr. O'Casey.

You should be.

How much is this stuff?

That coffee is two for $1.30.

Why not?

Only a few hundred thousand miles away.

To pre-atomic man, a hopeless, unattainable dream.

But to us today, a perfectly practical trip.

Our spacecraft with its personnel and cargo
also faces the problem of encountering meteorites.

Showers of stones that roam the solar
system, posing a dangerous threat to astronauts.

A physical.

And mental condition at the time he
encounters high acceleration.

Hi,

but you'll have to wait till you get home.

Okay, okay, just don't ball again.

Boy, I can't stand it.

I think we can get some water around here or something.

As in any kind of a dangerous mission, exhaustion as
well as mental stress can influence a man's efficiency.

I think.

We can.

Get some water.

Around here or something.

More time for the fun things in life.

Station.

What are you going to do after you get our home?

Go home and wait for Mr. Johnson, I guess.

Tell me.

Where Mill Street is.

Yes, sir.

He lives on Mill Street.

Oh, good.

Where is it?

Well, it's one block that way and one block to your left.

Thank you.

Where can I find the sweet pickles?

Sweet pickles?

Yeah.

It's the, uh...

Oh.

Yeah, yeah.

You go down aisle A, that's just past fresh fruit.

Then you turn left at section 9.

Now, you recognize that because frozen
vegetables is just to the right.

Then you head through the meat department,
and you'll be due west of shaving and lotions.

That's counter 9A, by the way.

Which is practically next door to assorted pickles.

Okay.

Let him eat liver.

Yeah.

You ever had a bucket of paint spill?

Never.

Why don't you kids run along?

Okay.

As.

We thrust closer and closer to the moon, let
us remember that we will not have the luxury of.

...

Here you see an unmanned rocket which has gone off course.

It is only necessary to press the
destruction button, and the experiment is over.

Down plunge the flaming remnants and a few
million dollars worth of hardware,

which is lost, but nothing so precious as
the life of one astronaut.

Elm, turn right, double back.

Fine, I see.

Is it open?

Sure, I was just on it.

Oh, fine.

I'm kind of late now.

Then you can cut across to Mill Street.

Thank you very much.

You're welcome.

Now, naturally, an astronaut can't stop someone in
space and ask directions if he should get lost, so...

Of course, he's going to have to rely on instrumentation.

What the moon is like has been a matter of
conjecture ever since the beginning of the human race.

However, this we do know.

This small world in space, will present a
challenge to anyone landing on its surface.

Now we are free of the pull of the Earth's
atmosphere and headed on target.

There it is, the moon.

In a few hours, our astronauts will be
landing on the lunar surface.

What will they find there?

Vast plains and craters in an endless
silence and desolation?

A great dead planet offering nothing to the explorer?

Or new mysteries?

New challenges?

Startling new advances in the quest for knowledge?

At last, we are actually on the moon.

Our dream since primitive man first saw that
mysterious ball of light in the dark sky above him.

Our astronauts step out into the unknown, protected
against radiation, lack of gravity, lack of oxygen.

But what else will they find?

What unsuspected dangers?

Astronauts landing there will be
confronted by many strange phenomena.

Although people love to speculate as to the
existence of life on the moon, it is highly improbable.

The.

Atmosphere could cause suffocation to earth visitors.

Mary, how many kids are in the house?

Oh, boy.

If Mrs. Riley finds out old Sandy's run
away again, she'll give her the dickens.

How are we going to unload her without anybody seeing her?

I don't know.

Now, once our rocket has landed on the
moon, the unloading of cargo is in itself a problem.

It takes ingenuity.

Sandy!

Now, turning the entire vehicle on its
side in order to use the central

propellant column as a shield is being investigated.

However, this maneuver seems to involve weight penalties.

Boom.

Attached to the base.

This appears to be a workable system.

The landing on the moon is only the beginning.

It can pave the way to even more fantastic
adventures into space.

Hello.

Is Mr. Douglas here?

No, sir.

Well, maybe he left an envelope for me.

My name is Johnson.

Oh, yes, sir.

Aren't you the boy, uh... Yes, sir.

I thought so.

Tell your father I'll call him later.

Thank you.

You're welcome, sir.

Hi, Chip.

Hello.

What have you been doing all day?

Oh, nothing.

Well, you should have been shopping with me.

It's like getting caught in a stampede.

Women.

Wow.

Why, they're more like a herd of maddened buffalo.

O'Casey, did you give that envelope to Mr. Johnson?

Yeah.

Good boy.

Mission accomplished.

Well, sounds like you really had a rough trip, Mr. Johnson.

I'm sorry you had so much trouble.

Oh, thanks very much.

Okay.

Goodbye.

I don't even like your report.

Oh, fine, Bob, but you can't imagine the
trouble he had finding this house.

What about the trouble I had finding the crab apple jelly?

It took him two and a half hours to locate our street.

It seems a couple of young boys gave him a
shortcut and he ended up way down on Pine Street.

Dad?

Yeah?

Yes, sir?

I guess I'll be turning in.

Good night.

Good night, Chip.

Good night, Chip.

Don't forget to brush your teeth.

Oh, Chip, on the way to school tomorrow,
don't go down Burke Street.

Mr. Johnson said it's all torn up.

Okay.

First he got his car stuck, and when he finally got
out, he ran over some broken glass and got a flat tire.

Some lady picked out the bottom can of tomatoes
and tipped over the whole pyramid on my foot.

And when he was changing the tire, some kid
started sh**ting rocks at him with a slingshot.

It took him two and a half hours to go two blocks.

Only takes two and a half days to go to the moon.

Sounds like a much safer trip going to the moon.

Look, up in the sky, it's a bird,
it's a plane, it's not Superman,

it's My Favorite Martian.

Stay tuned for two episodes of My Favorite
Martian during this twice as nice morning on TV Land.
