We are thrilled to be partnering

with Project Runway,
and I am so excited

to present you
with your next challenge.

TIM: I have to say, though,
some of you look

You are not designing for men.

But you are using menswear
as inspiration

-for your looks
for this challenge. -Okay.

The clothes that the models
are wearing

are essential to this challenge,

because the fabric
in their outfits

will be your point of departure
for what you create.

Each model has two cards,

and each card has one
of your names on it.

We're gonna begin with Aiden.

-Aiden has Kenya and Kentaro.
-KENYA: Okay.

So, Kenya and Kentaro,
you will be using the fabric

associated with the model
for your look.

Anthony, who do you have?

-You have Brandon and Shawn.
-BRANDON: Yeah. -Oh, my God.

Thomas, who do you have?

Ayana and Batani.

Luke.
Luke has Amy and Claire.

-Denim.
-And that means that Todd

has Margarita and Michael.

-All right.
-MONICA: Great.

-Now everyone has their fabric.
-TIM: Yes.

But there's one more thing.

This is a team challenge.

-AYANA: Team challenges

make me very nervous.

There is already enough stress
to get

your own look out, and now you

have to coordinate
with someone else?

That's just a lot.

TIM:
Here it is.

-What? -Oh! -Whoa!

Oh, it's not by fabric.

-You're making assumptions.
-[laughing, exclaiming]

For this challenge,
you will be working

in teams of two, and each team
will create two cohesive looks.

When I call your name,
you will choose a teammate.

However,
the team member you choose

may not have
the same fabric as you.

The winner will be chosen
from the winning team,

and a designer from the
losing team will be eliminated.

Kentaro, since you won
the last challenge,

you get to choose
your team member first.

tonight at the end of the show.

This is my redemption challenge.

You are going to have 30 minutes
to sketch here.

Each team will have $100
for Mood.

but I do mean supplemental.

You know, a play on menswear,
so like a boyfriend shirt.

I think a jogger is a good idea.

It's a kind of futuristic,
sporty versus country, right?

BRANDON:
We're off to a good start.

I'm thinking about joggers,

hoodies, jackets.

Things that, uh, will easily

read menswear.

-Have, like, some kind
of, like... -Yeah.

-Who did you get? Oh, Lena.
-I got Lena.

Ooh, Meisha.
This is gonna be cool.

I want to do, like,
an oversized kind of like...

like, if you're wearing your
boyfriend's shirt type of thing,

but I do want
to make it feminine.

I want to make a shirtdress,

because I didn't do very well

on my last pair of pants,
so I'm just thinking,

how about you just stay away
from the pants for a minute?

maybe make a dress.

What are your thoughts
on this denim?

What I think is a denim suit.

I'm really loving the...

environment in the workroom.

We're all kind of in the zone.

It's very Zen.

It's quiet. It's kind of nice.

SHAWN [sighing]:

MARGARITA:
Sure enough,

first thing is: "Claire!"

"Shawnie!"

I feel pretty confident
working with Michael.

We both have won a challenge,

so Michael and I definitely

and then a long duster jacket
as one look;

the other being a two-piece

kind of long john
in the gray waffle knit;

and we're definitely
feeling confident.

MARGARITA:
Do you know how to do a collar?

Just like a clean,
simple collar.

Um... which kind?
The one that goes like this?

-Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

BATANI:
I haven't really done menswear.

And then you can put
the buttons right here.

BATANI: Margarita has
a lot of experience,

so I'm good to just be teamed up

with her and learning from her.

SHAWN: I really, really, really

This week's challenge
is to create a womenswear look

that's been inspired
by menswear,

with fabrics
provided by JCPenney.

Oh, my God. Seriously.

Shawn and I
are working together,

and I think we both
are having major issues

with the textiles, and trying
to make two cohesive looks

that are interesting and new
is quite the challenge.

TIM: Good heavens,
what a quiet workroom.

-I know. We're always so loud.
-TIM: Wow.

I like it.
It means you're...

-Focused.
-...contemplative.

Well, I'm here to check in
with the teams,

Margarita, Batani,
how are you doing?

So, what I'm doing is a

wrap dress with a suit jacket
element on top.

So I'm doing it
out of this material.

-You're toughening up
the wrap dress. -Yeah.

It's a good direction.

For mine, I'm kind of

-reassembling the men's
dress shirt. -Oh.

I'm starting to use this fabric.

And I wanted to have
functional buttons.

To make it placket
and put in button holes?

for the runway show,
and as you know,

he is your mentor and will not
be judging your looks.

That said, he will have
the Tim Gunn save.

If at some point
during the competition

he disagrees with the judges,
then he can bring

that eliminated designer
back to the competition.

We have an anonymous
runway show.

That means we, the judges,
do not know

which designer
created which look.

All right, let's start the show.

All right, here we go.

[gasps] Yes, girl.

It's exactly the way
I wanted it to look,

so I'm really happy about that.

I know.

I'm really happy
with the outcome.

Seeing Michael's model
just kind of right behind her,

it's really cohesive.

MICHAEL: I am just
very pleased and happy

to see that Jazzmine
actually looks so hot,

and I think the fact
that I gave such a high slit

on such an easy dress

definitely gave it
a little bit of punk.

♪ ♪

KENYA:
Me and Amy decided

to create two looks
that we own equally.

It looks good.
I think it's made well.

I like it but don't love it.

I feel okay.

AMY: We tried to approach
the challenge

from the viewpoint
of a JCPenneys customer

that would find
these garments approachable,

that would find them versatile
and attractive.

♪ ♪

Ooh, I love this one.

KENTARO: It looks great. Our
look is very, very cohesive.

One is, like, more feminine.
One is more masculine.

BRANDON: Me and Kentaro,
we look at each other.

We both know
it's the most cohesive.

Janine and Christina
felt so comfortable.

It was right up their alley.

And we definitely think
we have this in the bag.

CLAIRE:
I love that we made outfits

that look nothing like
anyone else's on the runway.

I chose to make separates that
I think are really interesting

and stand alone by themselves.

So I'm thrilled
with how things turned out.

SHAWN:
Liris is working this.

She has a pop of color.

The dress contours
to her shape.

I am proud
that we have accomplished

what we set out to accomplish.

pretty much stick to our look
head to toe,

mine being Christina,

We were inspired

I created the burgundy

kind of a play on a men's shirt.

But I think it looks
really nice.

I love both looks, too.

I'm personally a huge fan

of yours, Margarita.

Because it's sexy.
The fit is so nice.

But I can also see

We originally were inspired
by the men's T-shirt,

the trouser and the hoodie

and tried to do
our own little riff on that.

I personally find
the first dress trashy.

This T-shirt is just bad design.

-And then the jeans,

I'm not crazy
about the dumpy butt.

This was the opportunity
to show us

what this magic sisterhood
could build.

-I know.
-ZAC: And I'm, quite frankly,

big-time disappointed.

The world doesn't need this.

A lot of it feels like
an afterthought.

-I'm just confused. Yeah.
-SHAWN: We tried to direct

our design more toward
a younger client.

You designing
for contemporary market

is not an excuse
to give us boring things.

The pants are kind of cool.

The T-shirt is okay.

The sleeves at the waist,
I don't understand.

Why do we need these clothes?

-Indeed.
-Well...

the clients of JCPenney
look at influencers,

and they're inspired
by what they wear.

I don't believe
you have a brand.

-I understand that.

HEIDI: When I look
at what you created here,

I would feel sad
for people to walk around

on the street looking like that.

There's nothing new.

There's nothing special
about it.

And then I see this baby blue
silly-looking suit.

It is not modern.
It's not cool.

Who is buying that?
I don't understand it.

ASIA:
These looks feel like

flight attendant uniform
rejections from the '70s.

-Because they're so not modern.

ZAC:

for construction
of this blue suit.

-Taste-wise, it is from

It is whack-a-doodle.

It's just something we've seen

When I was looking
at the light blue,

I kept going back
to, like, 1980 with it.

I really relied on talking
to Kenya and trying to find

what's a cohesive thing we
can do in this amount of time.

She looks like
