The story of my collection,
basically,

it's the story of my life.

I always say I always fall, but
I don't ever hit the floor.

So I wanted
to make a collection

that would start dark
and finish with light.

I'd love to walk
through the collection with you.

Yeah, so, I mean,
this is 60% of it.

And... and I have no black.

Not even a piece of jewelry,
not a pair of shoes.

Nothing black.

-A conscious decision?
-Yeah.

So this is my black.
That's my army green

color that I have.

So this is the first
piece, maybe.

It's gonna go lighter
and lighter.

So then I have this little...
I call it sac poubelle.

What does that mean?

Sac poubelle is a garbage bag.

-Oh. [laughs]
-Yeah.

I think this will be next,
which is

a tailored,
short-sleeve jacket

with this little pants
that I love.

-Beautiful.
-And then I have

this little, um, silk thing
that I'm working on.

-This is spectacular.
-The back is open.

-Spectacular.

RIK:
Yeah, it's enormous up here.

-TIM: What a spectacular space.

TIM:
So, take me on a tour.

RIK: So I basically will
start off, I guess,

about, like,
what I was inspired by.

I think I just liked

this whole kind of
Sgt. Pepper type deal

that's going on.

So this is a trench coat.

So what is the print?

So it's basically, this was
the print that we engineered.

RIK: I was inspired by
this paisley print on denim.

I knew I really wanted
to kind of mix this classic

denim embroidery from the '70s,
but bringing it to 2016.

I'm also doing
some cool glasses.

How are you feeling
about everything?

I was a little nervous
about not being so cohesive.

But I feel with the styling,
hair and makeup,

the accessories, I think
it would be cohesive.

Really?

I see at least
three collections here.

I fundamentally don't understand
any of the leather with this.

RIK:
Okay.

-I really don't understand this.
-Okay.

And this?

I don't get it

in this context and capacity.

I just don't get it.

New York Fashion Week is right
around the corner.

I have so much work to do.

I'm definitely
feeling the pressure.

ERIN: I just graduated
from MassArt just in May,

so I connected with
the fashion department

and I asked them if I could

use this space to
create this collection.

TIM:
Erin, I hear you're in here,

-Oh, you're here.

Mwah, mwah.

-So tell me how you are.
-I'm doing really good.

How have you felt
about not having

the Project Runway
pressures of time?

I work and develop things,
like, differently,

so, like, I've just been, like,

mainly building a lot of, like,

texture and, like,

creating my own, like,
materials.

-Uh-huh.
-So,

I don't have, like,
a full garment.

You don't have a full garment
today?

Uh-uh.

You really have...

a Project Runway moment here.

-I do.
-You have ten days

before you have to
send the collection,

and you have ten looks to do.

You basically have
one look a day.

ERIN: I am definitely, like,
really nervous.

Right now, I'm just like,

I've got a lot of it done

in my head

and now it's just about
executing it.

Okay, I want to see.

Yeah. So...

I just like, really love, like,
fun, positive vibes.

So like, that's why, like,
I'm just gonna go for,

like, bright colors.
Like, a lot of my stuff

is inspired by, like,
my friends.

So here's, um, I have, like,

my drawings out, so it's like,

-I have, like, that mapped out.
And... -Mm-hmm.

...I have this, like, print that
my friend and I came up with.

So I had her paint characters
that represent my friends,

but like, you wouldn't know it

because they're just, like,
little creatures.

I'm, like, really into

just creating my own textiles
or textures.

I think that that gives, like,

someone a very special
identity.

You're breaking a lot of rules
with this collection. A lot.

And quite frankly,

I'm applauding it.

I'm really on board,
and I believe.

-I think it's gonna be fun.

really important people

So when I moved to Boston,

I was just a little nugget,

I worked with Dr. Porsche
at Harvard Dental School.

She's a pediatric dentist,

did research with her.

But she was, like,
my first mentor.

ERIN:
Porsche was like

the eye-opener for me

to kind of just be like,
"Wait, Erin, you have potential,

you're not stupid."
And I was like, "I'm not?"

I was so impressed with
her work ethic,

-TIM: Yes.
-first of all.

And she's super creative.

-And, uh, she told me...
-Yes, she is.

...she wanted to be
a dental hygienist, at the time,

but knowing her,
I tried to say that,

"You are so talented.

"Maybe think about fashion or

creating artistic things."

Erin's lucky to have you.

Seriously.

I hate to tell you this:

you almost drove me
to a mental hospital.

[all laughing]

She was always so last minute.

-Oh, I know.
-You do know.

-Oh...

Whitney, has Erin always
been like this?

-Yes.

-Since a toddler?
-Yes.

-She wouldn't even be like--

She was, like,
stubborn from the beginning.

I was in the womb

a huge amount of fun.

at the beginning,
it might look like

a sacrifice,
but it allows me

to be here
and having the possibility

to be the winner of
Project Runway.

Where do you want to start?

Well, I'm going to start with

some of my inspiration.

TIM:
Okay.

I start seeing my girl

going to different places

to find something wonderful,

and I'm using this
as a whole idea.

So, here I have,
for my first look,

-is a cotton waxed jacket.
-Mm-hmm.

I wanted to develop the pattern

of the jacket
very traditionally, and also,

I wanted to make it modern.

Okay.

For my second look,

there is an alpaca sweater.

-Mm-hmm.
-I want to make a collection

made of different pieces
from different moments,

from different places because

that's what I am right now.

And I have this skirt,

with this fabric,
with a sweater,

but in a different material
on top of that.

Are there too many ideas here?

It's too much?

I just want to...

encourage you
to think about it.

LAURENCE: I'm happy to be

RIK: Fashion Week is here.
Everything's at stake

in this competition,

of stress that I'm going through

except them,
so it feels really good.

I think we all kind of had

stories behind our collections.

Mine was inspired by the '60s,

and there's lots of color,
lots of prints,

very punk rock,

slightly hip-hop.

It's definitely who I am.

I'm like, now I realize
how much work

I still have to do!

LAURENCE:
I am so blessed.

Right now, I'm so [bleep] happy
with the collection I produced.

I went all the way back
to the time

I was 16 years old,
and how I used to dress,

and how I dress now. So I mixed
up a little bit of everything.

It's unreal.

ROBERI:
I'm not in fashion

to make something

cool and trendy,

but if you connect
with people's emotion,

you have something relevant.

-Oh... -ERIN: Of course I want
to win Project Runway.

I do feel like I have,
like, a really good chance

at winning this because

I think my collection
is really, really special.

So, you will present

a preview of three looks

You need to be very strategic

in determining
which three looks those are.

It's the tease.

It's a fashion

amuse-bouche,
[laughs]

so to speak.

As our final four,

it really is the case
that you are a brand.

In the spirit of that,
you are going to use

the Brother dream machine

to present a logo
to the judges tomorrow.

makeup consultations

with Luis, and I will be back

my initials and just design

a logo that is couture-minded

and timeless.

RIK:
I'm creating

my little graphic logo.
That is, kind of like,

my signature, and it represents
me as a designer.

ERIN: I was kind of like,
well, if I do like,

a handwritten name,
it will look kind of cool.

I don't want to take myself
too seriously

'cause that's not who I am.

ROBERI:
Well, I'm very worried

because my logo is typography.

It's like the print challenge
all over again. Oh, God.

TIM: I'm eager to see what
three looks you've selected.

are your thoughts about tomorrow

and the three looks
that you want to present?

ROBERI: These three looks
holds the whole spirit

of the collection,
without showing

the whole collection.

When I saw you,

I told you that there were
a lot of textiles,

and there was a lot going on.

I kept thinking about that,

and I made the decision

to try to keep the whole idea

of the mismatch

and the whole combination

of different textiles
because it was

part of the, um...

the narrative of the collection.

How are you going to respond

if the judges ask you
about the seven remaining looks

and whether there's cohesion?

There's one theme
through the collection,

the color and the shapes.

It's what interweaves
the whole collection.

There are a lot of different
textiles and a lot of color,

if you ask me.

-Hi, Tim.
-So talk to me. Why these three?

-This one goes
with the green pants. -Mm-hmm.

This one, I'm hesitating
between this and the jumpsuit.

I know you're doing
a riff on the overall,

but these are so similar.

Would you want
to show them both?

That's why I'm thinking
I need to scratch one.

TIM: I have to tell you,
it's such a surprise.

The whole collection
is a surprise in many ways.

-Yeah, you're right.
-Rik,

there's a lot of work
that's been done.

-So much work.
-Yeah.

For tomorrow,
I'm actually thinking

these three looks. So,
we have like a little jumper,

and we just added lots more
of the hand embroidery.

This was one of
the leather pieces.

I think that you just
only seen the muslin.

-It's beautifully done.
-This was just

-an extended motor jacket.

-I wanted to do just the bikini
top underneath.

-Oh, okay. So, we do get the
black and white print. -Mm-hmm.

I never know what the judges
are going to say.

I would like them to be able
to see the black and white.

-What are your own thoughts?
-I'm probably

gonna go back
to my initial plan,

which was showing
this full look, you know?

parts of the collection.

of this print.

-Oh, I see, with the skirt.
Okay. -Mm-hmm, yeah. So, like,

this is the weaving
that was supposed to be a dress,

but then when it came off
the loom, it shrunk.

This looks so much more
like you.

to feel fresh and young.

It's gorgeous.

a little bit of that glimmer
that you like.

My inspiration was just,

basically, like,

the swinging '60s.

Mary Kay just released

a new liquid eyeliner pen
that gives you

and a cool chignon in the back.

brilliant shine cream,

some illuminating pomade,

a great foundation

Can you make it contrasty?

One that would
look beautiful on her

would be this purple
and then we'll do silver here.

a little shea butter balm,

you get that blingy bling,

at New York Fashion Week.

-RIK: Yay.

will be the winner

of Project Runway.

Okay, here's how it works.

Each of you is going to show us

three of your looks today.

It's kind of like
a little preview.

We will give you feedback

before your big show.

And don't think because I am

in Los Angeles
I can't see anything,

-because I can see
everything. -[Rik chuckles]

Whatever the judges are seeing
right there,

I can see from right here,

as long as no one unplugs me.

[Rik giggles]

If I don't agree with you,
I'm gonna unplug you.

HEIDI: All right, let's say
hello to our judges.

First, we have creative director

of Brooks Brothers Women,

-Zac Posen.
-Hi, designers.

-LAURENCE: Hi, Zac.
-Hello.

Creative director
for Marie Claire magazine,

Nina Garcia.

Welcome back, guys.

HEIDI:
And we have the wonderful

Michael Kors here
to help us out.

Also, we have Tim Gunn here
for the runway show.

Hey, Michael,

can you lug me off this runway

and put me in my usual spot.

[grunting]

[designers laughing]

All right. Let's start the show.

ROBERI: Seeing my preview,
it's amazing.

It looks beautiful.

It looks well-made.

It looks really cool

with, like, the sheerness.

ROBERI:
I feel excited

because I really wanted
to make a lot of ideas.

I really love the silhouettes.

RIK:
Iridescent.

ROBERI:
It's very difficult

to say what the judges
are thinking

because they are very composed.

I'm pretty much excited

to see what the judges
have to say.

ERIN: The three pieces that I
chose definitely represent me.

The vibe of my collection,

definitely, like, a little bit

more playful and whimsical.

I would wear that.

ERIN:
Seeing the pink dress,

and thinking
about my other looks,

I'm like, oh, my God,

like, those look so dope.

I'm feeling like
there is something

that needs to be tweaked,

but I don't know what it is.

I love seeing
the payette dress sparkle.

I realize I need
to fix the hemline

'cause I haven't seen it

from this angle.

I love seeing the shimmer

of the shoes and the skirt

looked awesome
with the buttons.

Did you have to paint the shoes
to match the...

It's a pretty good job.

ERIN: I'm feeling good, but I
know that there's definitely

gonna be something
that needs to change.

LAURENCE:
When I see my looks

come down the runway,
I feel confident.

My preview collection

represents me as a designer.

I have no idea how the judges

are taking it.

I don't really look at them.
I'll find out after.

The pants are tight,

but at this point,

I can't do anything.

Hopefully they don't see it.

LAURENCE: I am very happy with
the looks that I've chosen.

I wouldn't change a thing.

RIK:
The glasses look really,

really cool.

The leggings, I'm kind of
second-guessing those.

I think, you know,

she does need to be

a little bit more sexy.

It's really sick.

RIK: As I see my looks
coming down the runway,

I'm extremely happy that
I came up with these things.

I've also incorporated

a little leather bag.

The jumpsuit, I think it is
a little baggy still.

I should've lost the belt.

I'm feeling really good
about this preview show.

Everything seems to be tying in
very, very well together.

HEIDI:
Well, designers, it looks like

we're going to have a great

finale runway show.

Good job.

Judges, are you ready for

some feedback?
Okay, Rik,

we're going to
talk to you first,

so let's bring out your models.

Well, Rik, why don't you tell us
about your looks

and how they represent you
for this collection.

I was inspired by the '60s,

down to the Twiggy movement

all the way up to, like,
the Sgt. Pepper.

With this first look,

I actually created the print.

Within the middle look,
there's a couple pieces

within the collection
that play with

optical illusion with
the leather work,

so of course we have, like,
the little arrows here

that create almost like a bow.

And for my third look, it is

denim printed on denim.

I think

that you need to, like,

-raise the octane.
-Oh, okay.

These are fun pieces,
it's very eclectic.

And I think with the denim look,

I would try maybe, like,
opening it up.

It's always nice to show
a little, you know, skin.

Of course.

I think you have
a very good hand with leather.

I think the leather dress
is great.

-Thank you. -I love
that dress in the middle.

MICHAEL: Yeah, you want to dance
on a table in that dress.

-[clicks tongue]
-I mean, it's great.

I think the glasses are freaky,

but great.

-Okay.
-And it's a fashion show,

so I think freaky but great's
a good thing.

You have too many messages

right now.

So you really have to
edit that down

and make it cohesive.

I think less is more with you.

-Yes! [laughs]
-Complet-- right?

NINA:
The more simple dress

is your most successful dress.

So keep it streamlined.

HEIDI:
Cohesion,

cohesion, cohesion.

I think that is your main thing.

Rik, I know that
you can do this.

You have a lot of work to do,
but you can make it work.

Yes.

HEIDI:
Erin, why don't you tell us

-about your collection?
-So this piece right here

is, uh, Neoprene

with laser-cut
glitter Plexiglas.

And then this is a digital print

that I collaborated
with my friend

and printed it on crepto-sheen.

And also I made the bag as well.

The last look is

hand-woven sleeves

with a wool top
and a leather skirt,

and I made the buttons, too.

MICHAEL:
Well, the Neoprene dress

-is adorable.
-Thank you.

I like the attitude of her.

I just think she looks
fresh and cool.

I hate the bag.

I think it's just silly.

I think, Erin, there's
an odd man out here.

This middle girl

is really coming
out of left field

because I haven't seen
anything like this

in the entire season from you.
[laughs]

I think what's important when
I see this is that you have

the sparkle in every look,

because the one look that
doesn't have some twinkle

-and sparkle in it is
gonna be flat. -Yeah.

NINA:
You work very well with color.

You work very well
with ornamentation.

Just work with your strengths.

That's what we want to see.

HEIDI:
Thank you, Erin.

Laurence, tell us
about your looks

and how they represent
your collection.

Okay, so I decided to,
uh, use my life

as inspiration from the time
I was 16 till now.

The collection is about

finding light in darkness,

so I played with colors

and different styles to dressing
the same woman,

but in different times
of her life.

HEIDI: I feel like you guys
all have the same problem.

Cohesion.
What do you think, Michael?

This is a full
schizophrenic moment again.

-Okay.
-The two girls on the left

are in the same world.

There's some sense of tailoring.

I do think that the
pearl-encrusted top is fabulous.

-Thank you.
-And then,

all of the sudden, I get to her.

[singsongy]:
Heidi, it's a little bit like

we're in Germany
at the beer garden.

[laughs]

-Oh, my gosh.
-You know,

pull the stein up
and say, "Ah, ja."

I mean, it's linen.

-Mm-hmm.
-And...

which looks very casual

and very relaxed.

Your girls always are cool.

They have this...

I don't know what.

And to me, the makeup here

is so severe that it
almost becomes dated.

-Okay.
-HEIDI: To you, Michael,

you know, the green romper looks

a little Bavarian, but to me,

this is almost
the freshest thing

on the runway from
Laurence today.

-I agree, Heidi.
-Um, the one in the middle,

I'm thinking of
the '80s or the '90s

in a weird way with
the belly button showing.

I do kind of think

the top on the left is cool,
you know,

with all the studs
because I love the back.

-Boom. I mean, that looks
really cool. -ZAC: Yeah.

But then how would that tie in

with the rest?
So I'm really--

I don't know how you're gonna
make this work.

-I'll make it work.
-I think you're so talented.

Five years on the show,
the best tailor I've seen.

-Thank you.
-I agree with you, Heidi.

I'm not necessarily getting
Bavaria.

I think that balances

-the crispness of your
tailoring. -Okay.

If anyone can make this work,
you can.

I will.

HEIDI: Roberi, why don't
you tell us about

your three looks and how they
represent your collection.

For this collection,
I got inspired by

travel and the inner journeys.

ZAC:
I think there's a very,

kind of, fun, interesting
balance between

this kind of My Little Pony

pink reflective fabric
and the more earthy

matte fabrics,
I like that balance there.

The only thing that's really
standing out for me

is the middle skirt.

I think that
the kind of reflective

trash bag chic,
it doesn't feel very polished.

Where is the excitement?
That is my main problem here.

You have to sex it up
a little bit.

They all look
a little dowdy to me.

-Okay. -They're all a little
buttoned up.

He's-- he likes, Heidi,

he's into like the nerdier,
dowdier girl,

-and I like it. -I don't think
everyone wants to feel sexed up.

Not to throw the curveball in,

I love the way she looks
head to toe.

She has this
interesting texture mix.

The fabric's manipulated well.

I don't think
you have to sex it.

I think something's
got to juice it.

Just a little [grunts],
like that.

This last outfit,

-you don't have anything there.
-HEIDI: No.

Yours looks more cohesive
than everyone else's,

but the more I stare at it...

-The less cohesive.
-...the less cohesive it gets.

Yeah, once you pick it apart,

-it doesn't cut it. -But there's
something impeccable here.

-ZAC: Mm-hmm.
-So-- and you want to make sure

that's what you show.

Show your strength.

It doesn't need to be sexy.

I know what you're trying
to escape.

I understand.

I'm from the same hemisphere.

HEIDI:

is fresh and new now.

LAURENCE: I'm a little surprised
about what the judges said.

I was like... I was like, "No."

RIK: I think I have to
scrap some stuff.

It's intense.

I know I have to make
a couple new pieces,

and I'm just hoping

I brought enough fabrics with me

to make these new garments.

It's not that
they're not right,

it's that there's no time.

-Ex... that's the issue.
-We have like,

a [bleep] ton of stuff to do
and, like,

I don't know

what I'm gonna get done
for the show.

HEIDI: Next week on the finale
