The meaning of life is...
[ Cow lows ]
If something tastes good,
we call it "tasty."
Therefore, if something
smells good,
we should call it smelly.
Uh, I don't think
that's how it works.
Oh, hey, Uncle Grandpa!
Good morning! Speaking of tasty,
I love me some bananas!
They're yellow,
they're delicious,
they're easy to eat,
and they're yellow!
Whoever invented bananas
was a genius!
[ Munching ]
Uncle Grandpa,
nobody invented bananas.
Hmm.
Well, somebody had to make 'em!
Your bananas were on a branch.
Bananas grow on trees.
Yeah. Everyone knows
bananas grow on trees.
Where do trees
come from, then?!
Duh, the tree store.
Where do tree stores
come from?
Uh. Um, th the tree store
warehouse?
Convenient! Convenient!
You have an answer for
everything!
But, but where does love
come from?!
Mmm. Love comes from our
natural inclination to
My fellow thinkers, where does
laughter originate?
Where does suffering come from?
Where does this blue lint in my
belly button come from
when I only wear white shirts?
Where do I come from?
Listen here.
You're a cartoon, Uncle Grandpa.
You were made at
the Cartoon Factory.
We all were.
How come I never saw that
building before?
Sometimes the answers are in
plain sight the whole time.
[ Door slams ]
Uncle Grandpa?
Oh, pickle juice!
This is gonna be real bad news
for some poor cartoon.
[ Buzzer ]
Cartoon Factory front desk,
can I help you?
Yeah!
I was made here,
and I would like to get
some answers.
Oh! Please hold for a retina
identification scan.
Okey dokey!
Retina scan verified!
Permission to enter.
[ Grunts ]
Oh, hi, Uncle Grandpa!
I knew your voice sounded
familiar.
What brings you back to
the Cartoon Factory?
Well, my legs bring me here,
but my brain is interested in
learning more about
where I come from.
Well, you've certainly come
to the right place.
I'm Laurie, and I'd be happy to
give you the guided tour
of the Cartoon Factory!
Follow me!
All right!
Holy moly!
Ha ha ha!
Oh, yes, it's quite a sight
to see in there.
Oh, in fact, before we enter,
I'll have to ask you to leave
your camera phone behind.
Aw, okay.
Behold!
The magic of imagination
and childhood wonder!
You guys get to work in
your own boxes?!
You have your own coffee pot
with an endless amount of
Styrofoam cups?!
There's even a printer scanner
fax machine combo?!
Next you're gonna tell me
computers have a role
in making cartoons!
Ha ha.
Oh, they do play a role,
but this is just all
the clerical stuff.
Let me show you how the actual
cartoons are produced.
Come on!
Okay...
but I don't know what's gonna
top this.
Through here, we have
our writer's room.
It's where all our best ideas
for cartoon episodes come from.
It also doubles as
a nice daycare
for our employees with
small children.
[ Cooing ]
Are you saying that a bunch of
diaper wearing babies
write all the words I say?
Yeah.
They're something else.
Let's keep going.
Start writing me more smarter,
you poopy poops!
[ Crying ]
I can't believe cartoons
are written by babies.
Aw, don't be ashamed.
Maybe our funny props department
will cheer you up.
Funny props?
Yep.
Over here, we have our team of
magic elves who build all
the funny things we use
in cartoons.
Which one of you elves made
this camera phone?
Uh, that was me, Boss.
Hilarious!
This is why we're crushing
in the ratings!
Hey, I thought I made that
camera phone.
Nope. All cartoons, including
you, are a group effort!
Oh.
Come on, there's more!
Up next is our storyboard
department.
Eh, sounds story boring.
Can we go back to
the printer area?
Oh, you don't want to
miss this.
The storyboards are where
the scripts are sketched out
by a team of very composed
visual storytellers.
[ Chittering ]
A bunch of monkeys
throw mud at the wall
and it's supposed to
make sense?
We don't question
their process.
It works for them.
[ Grunts ]
Look alive!
Down here are the color mines.
This is where we get
all the colors
you see in each cartoon.
Oh, yeah?
Well, I bet they don't have
rainbow!
Yuck, more rainbow!
[ Grunts ]
Ah, yes!
Just a tad more texture here...
Colors are then painted onto
backgrounds
by a master Renaissance painter.
Backgrounds like the one we're
standing on can take months,
sometimes years to finish,
so try not to touch anything.
Is nothing real?
Hey!
Whatsamatta for you?!
You know how long a those brick
a took me to paint?!
Sorry!
[ Xylophone hit,
boink ]
[ Dink donk, boink ]
In here is our sound room,
where our audio expert, Robert,
chooses all the sound effects
for cartoons.
[ Doink ] [ Bonk ] [ Boink ]
[ Horn honks ]
No way!
I choose all my own sound
effects with my own brain!
[ Clonk, clonk ]
[ Clonk, clonk ]
Oh, yeah,
I'm a group effort.
Now you're getting it.
Let's keep going.
[ Loud fart ]
Hey!
[ Laughs ]
[ Hip hop playing ]
In here is our break room.
And, finally,
the cartoons come to life
through our
animation department,
where our in house mad scientist
combines everything we just saw
using...
A computer.
You guessed it!
It's alive!
[ Electricity crackling ]
[ Beeping ]
Whoa.
So that's it, huh?
Actually, you get to keep that.
But it hasn't aired yet,
so keep it on the down.
Well, Uncle Grandpa,
that concludes our tour of
the Cartoon Factory.
I hope you enjoy your DVD
and souvenir tote bag,
and that I
answered all your questions
about how cartoons are made.
The tour was humbling,
but I still want to know
who made me!
Oh, that would be
your creator.
But, well, you can't talk to him
unless you have an appointment
at least
four years in advance.
[ Chuckles ]
Sorry.
Oh, okay.
Well, ha...
I'm just gonna use the restroom,
uh, before I go.
Uh, I'm sure it's just over...
here!
Hey!
Gotta find my creator!
[ Panting ]
Wow!
Okay!
[ Register dings ]
Nope.
[ Sobbing ]
Make it stop!
Nope.
[ Screeches ]
Nope!
[ Panting ]
Anybody here know where I can
find my creator?!
Huh?
[ Angelic choir sings ]
Oh!
This must be
the corporate ladder.
Hey! You need to make
an appointment!
No! What I need is answers
about my life!
[ Grunting ]
Whoa!
Hi, I'm Pete.
M m m my c c creator?
It's really you.
Yeah, it's me.
What's going on, Uncle Grandpa?
I have so many questions
for you.
All the answers you're looking
for have been in plain sight
this whole time.
I don't understand.
Just look.
[ Gasps ]
It's all becoming so clear now.
Uh...
No.
No?
I meant the answers are over
there at the Answer Factory.
Oh, yeah.
The Answer Factory.
I guess that makes sense.
Okay, well, I gotta record
vocals for
the new "Uncle Grandpa" episode.
[As Uncle Grandpa] Good mornin'!
Wait!
Can I just ask you one thing?
Okay, just one thing.
Why do I exist, Pete?
Huh. I guess I just sketched you
when you came into
my imagination one day.
All right, see ya later!
Wow.
Well, Uncle G. Did you find out
the meaning of your life?
Yeah, some bald guy drew me
when he was bored.
Hey, kids!
You just saw where I came from.
Now's a great time
to ask your parents
who sketched you into
this world!
Announcer:
Hey, kids, Uncle Grandpa
is somewhere in this room.
Can you spot him?
Where is Uncle Grandpa?
Where?
Need some help?
Here I am!
Oh, man, mustard!
Gotta go!
No!
Come on!
That's not fair!
Announcer:
Where's Uncle Grandpa?
Boy:
It's an empty hallway!
Announcer: Give up?
[ Toilet flushes ]
Sorry, I was in the bathroom.
You folks aren't allowed
in there.
All: Hey!
Announcer:
Where's Uncle Grandpa?
What?
Who's there?
I'll tell you, he's in
Pizza Steve's video game!
Good morning!
[ Laughter ]
Oh, no.
Ah! Uncle G.,
you just made me lose!
Announcer:
Where's Uncle Grandpa?
Boy: I found him!
Boy: He's right there!
Announcer: Right there?
Wrong!
That's not Uncle Grandpa,
that's a robot!
Hey, kids, it's me!
I'm right h
[ Grunts ]
There can be only one!
[ Grunting ]
Who are these two robots?
Announcer: The last one!
Where's Uncle Grandpa?
Boy: This is just blank.
Boy: It's nothing!
Announcer: Give up?
Boy: Yeah, I guess.
Announcer: All right, but he was
there the whole time!
I can't believe
you didn't find me.
Announcer: Maybe you guys need
to go practice this more.
Group: Aw, man!
[ Upbeat theme music plays ]
That was quite delicious.
