14x18 & 14x19 - Just Like Old Times – Part 1 & 2

[theme music]

Put me through that plane now.

I've got to call the b*mb squad. Get them out here.

There is no time for that.

I used to work with the b*mb squad.

Now, patch me to that plane.

I'll patch you through to the tower.

They'll handle it from there. Good luck.

[intense music]

Mr. Sumner. I just got off with the tower.

I'm afraid we have to return to Los Angeles.

-Why is that? -A b*mb on board this aircraft.

-A b*mb? -Greg.

Greg quick.

Greg.

Look.

We found it, Ted.

Would you put on the detective on the intercom.

-So we can hear him? -What detective?

The detective that notified us

about the b*mb in the first place.

Yeah, this is Detective Tom Ryan.

Tommy, I think we got a problem here.

He can't hear, use this.

-Tom? -Paige.

-Have you found the b*mb? -Yes.

Tell me what it looks like.

It's in a black box.

It has a digital clock and it has wires all over it.

There's a funny odor coming from it.

A C4 expl*sives.

Tell me what the wires look like.

Uh, there's a blue one, a red one

a green one and and a black one.

Okay, Paige, can you get to this b*mb without moving it?

-Yes. -Alright, listen.

It's very important you not move this b*mb.

If you move it, it could explode.

What does he want us to do? Wait for it to tick us into oblivion?

Tell him to shut up and listen.

You're going to disarm it, okay? I'm going to help you.

-This was all I could find. -Okay, we have a tool kit.

Okay, good. Are there wire cutters in there?

Tell him there is only pliers.

Pliers, we don't have any wire cutters.

Okay, that'll work. That'll work.

Paige, it's very important that these wires

are cut in sequence, okay.

If they're cut out of order, the b*mb could explode.

I'll flip you to see who cuts them.

Greg is gonna cut the wires.

The first wire to cut is the ground wire.

That's the wire leading from the timer

to the expl*sive.

Okay, now, from what you described to me

that would be the blue wire.

Listen, don't jostle that b*mb around, okay?

Any unnecessary movement will set it off.

Don't blow in my ear.

[timer ticking]

Oh, good. Didn't do anything.

Paige, how's he doing?

The b*mb's still activated.

Listen, is there a wire leading

from the expl*sive to the battery?

Um, maybe the black one.

Good. Tell Sumner to cut that wire next.

That should be next.

-Cut it. -Okay.

Ask him if he'd like to come up here and do it for me.

-No good. -Now, cut the last wire.

I'm working as fast as I can, babe.

Paige, how much time is there left?

Ten, nine, eight...

Nothing like a little pressure.

Tell him to hurry up!

Five, four, three, two.

I guess I got the right one.

Paige, what's happening?

Paige? Somebody talk to me.

[man] Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please?

The bus originating from Jacksonville, Florida

is now arriving at Terminal 5.

[indistinct chatter]

Last stop, buddy. Nowhere else to go.

[dramatic music]

Mrs. Andrea Zimmerman, please meet your party at Terminal 2.

Andrea Zimmerman, please meet your party at Terminal 2.

It's getting to be a bad habit, Sumner.

How many lives do you have left?

Not many. What did you find out?

I'm waiting to hear from the b*mb squad.

Do you think the same guy who shot Greg placed the b*mb?

If not him, then somebody who works for Treadwell.

How did you find out about the b*mb?

I have a source from his organization.

Wouldn't be Nick Schillace, would it?

Nick?

No, but Nick can lead me to Treadwell

and as far as I'm concerned, Treadwell is the real m*rder*r.

So why don't you arrest him?

I have to find him first.

He'll probably k*ll me by the time this guy finds him.

-You okay? -Yeah, I'm fine.

[sighs] Thank you for saving our lives.

Yours, anytime.

Oh, come on, Tom.

He just has a hard time saying thank you.

Well, it's not his thank you I'm concerned about anyway.

So Nick knows where Treadwell is?

Probably.

Except right now, I can't find Nick either.

I might know who can.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Give it a rest. You slept with the man.

In case you've forgotten I'm a married woman now.

[laughs]

Yes, well, someone tried to k*ll

your husband and your daughter.

Now, if it wasn't Nick, he probably knows who did it.

So do you still want to protect him?

For what it's worth, Anne, I don't think

Nick was the one who planted the b*mb.

I do think he knows who did.

Not Nick.

If I were you and my husband was as rich as I am.

Nick had nothing to do with it.

Nick was involved.

Okay, the b*mb is real.

Then he's in as much danger as you are.

If that's the case, he'd be safer with us.

Thank you for keeping me informed.

I'll be in touch.

[sighs]

Bad news, I'm afraid.

Oh?

Gregory Sumner's plane never exploded.

It seems he was able to

defuse the b*mb before it went off.

I'm sorry.

How do you suppose he did it?

I don't think he's a demolitions expert.

-Do you? -No.

Obviously he had some help, but... from whom?

-I don't know. -You don't?

Do you mean to say,

that that detective who's been sniffing around you

was only interested in your, uh...

legs?

What detective?

Vanessa.

How long have we known each other, hmm?

Answer me, please.

Five years.

In those five years,

have you ever done anything I didn't know about it?

-Nigel, please. -Vanessa.

-No. -Were you lovers?

You and the policeman?

Stop it.

He was only using you

to get to me, you know.

Now, everything's gone wrong.

The Ewing woman escaped, and our handsome Nick

decided he... couldn't take orders.

Now, a detective knows more about me

than I know about him and all because of you.

[water dripping]

[dramatic music]

-What do you guys think? Hmm? -Good.

-Mm. Yeah. -Mm.

It's shepherds pie, I made it with

real mashed potatoes, not the potato flakes.

-It's delicious. Really good. -Thanks.

Kate, you have mashed potato on your face.

-I do? -Mm-hmm.

Oh, I got it. Yeah, I got it. Thanks.

You look pretty funny.

Thank you very much.

-And I think you look funnier. -Ohh.

Bob is a mashed potato face.

-Now, you are. -Hey, hey.

Hey, guys, we can't leave your dad out of this.

Oh, yes, we can. We can leave... No.

You guys. No. No.

Golly. Oh...

-Lipstick. -No.

[dramatic music]

[siren wailing]

Get out of here.

Let me do the talking.

If he knows you're here, he's going to run.

[knock on door]

Nick?

Open the door, Nick.

[knock on door]

Nick.

The door is open.

[dramatic music]

He's not here.

Any idea where he could have gone?

No, none.

-Hey, what are you doing? -What's it look like I'm doing?

-I'm calling my mother. -Yeah, call her from your house.

Listen. We got a psychopath running around here

trying to k*ll both of us. I don't trust you to find him.

Well, so you're going to hire your private people again?

It's a free world. I can do whatever I want.

Greg, one of those guys so much as breathes funny.

I'm arresting him and you for obstruction of justice.

You understand me? Need to use the phone.

Use the one downstairs.

[man] Which house do you want, lady?

Lady.

Hello, you with me?

[engine revving]

[dramatic music]

I changed my mind. I'd like to go back.

-Whatever you say. -Thanks.

[music continues]

-Good to be home, right? -Yes.

Do I still have to go to school?

-Hey, Meg! -Yes.

-Hi! -Let's go inside.

-There's a face I've missed. -Oh.

-Welcome back. -Oh.

-How was your trip? -Oh, it was terrific.

-Yeah? How's Diana? -She's great, she's great.

Good. Glad you're back. I missed you.

-He's missed you. -That's right.

So come on, you help me with the bags.

Hey, you gotta tell me what's been going on.

Yeah, like who that guy is?

I've never seen him before in my life.

Well, it had to happen.

It's not going to be the same without Frank.

Mm. Wonder who the new neighbors are.

Somebody interesting, I hope.

[dramatic music]

[man] Check Andy Beard, he's an expert.

[woman] Eric Kratzikoff, he wants to know

if we're going to need more manpower.

We've been checking every hotel and motel

within the 30 mile radius, as well as the airports

and train stations. Nothing.

Did you describe him?

Kinda difficult to misplace a 6'5" Italian.

Nobody by that description has shown up anywhere.

-What about my niece? -She's still at Ewing's.

They finished dinner and we'll

bring her home whenever she's ready.

Home? This isn't a home.

-It's a military installation. -That's because we're at w*r.

I'm waving the white flag. I want to go home.

It's not safe at your home.

Surround me with armed guards.

But in my own home. I can't live like this.

It's your own fault. You started all of it.

You think I'm going to spend the rest of my life paying for it?

I didn't sleep with the Italian.

You know something, Greg?

I think you're glad that I screwed up.

Now, you get to fix everything, come back as the hero.

You've made things real easy on me, sis.

So you're going to risk your life and Paige's

just so you can be back in charge of the Sumner Group.

-Nobody's going to die. -You almost did.

And for what? A business?

An office with a view, a boardroom?

This maniac wants the business.

Let him have it, it's not worth dying for.

I think you're right. You need to go home.

I'll have someone drive you there in the morning.

Fine.

[sighs]

[indistinct chatter]

Honey, go brush your teeth, okay?

-Before the bus comes. -Okay.

-Hi, daddy. Bye, daddy. -Hi. Bye.

Good morning.

Morning.

-Sleep well? -Oh, yeah. Very, very.

And you?

Very.

So, um...

You going to work today?

Yeah, I've neglected some things.

Unless you know, you have something that--

Oh, no, no.

Go, go ahead.

I guess we should start getting things back to normal,

for Meg.

Yeah, well.

I think that's important.

And for us too, of course.

[bus honks] Of course.

[Meg] Bus is here!

-I'll take her. -No, I'll take her.

Meg, sweetie, wait for us.

Oh, it's alright, she made it safely.

-Don't worry about it. Yes. -Yeah? Did she?

Look, I just came by to tell you how sorry I am.

-About what? -Sorry?

-Of course. Paige told you. -What?

Well, isn't that why you're back?

-What? Told us what? -What do you mean?

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you knew.

Look it's about the Sumner Group and some mad men

who's been trying to take it over.

[dramatic music]

May I help you?

I'm looking for Mr. MacKenzie.

-Who are you? -Toni Fields.

-I'm an associate here. -What happened to Frank?

Frank went to Chicago to be with his daughter.

Oh.

And what about Peggy? She's?

No, no, no. She's on an errand.

Maybe I can help you with something.

That's okay. No, I.

I need to talk to Mack.

Mack will be here shortly. Care to wait?

No.

That's okay. I'll just, uh...

I'll come back later.

Maybe I can tell him...

who called.

I can't believe Paige didn't tell you.

She was more concerned with you and me that...

Who's this? Who am I? Who are you?

I want to talk to Greg Sumner. Put him on.

Who is it? What's going on?

Tell him it's Mack Mackenzie.

If he doesn't come to the phone, I'll blow him up myself.

-Mack. -What?

Nothing.

Sumner, what happened to my daughter?

No, she didn't tell me.

Where is she? Put her on.

Well, that does me a hell of a lot of good.

-She went into work -By herself.

Tom Ryan's her bodyguard.

I actually convinced her to let him hang around.

-I must be losing my mind. What? -Mack.

I'm getting my purse. I'm going with you.

[sighs]

[sighs]

Shh, shh, shh. Don't scream. Don't scream. Please.

Please, I'm not going to hurt you, okay?

Okay.

-Please. -What are you doing here?

-I had nowhere else to go. -Nowhere else to go.

-How about jail? -Oh, Claudia.

Would you please listen to me? I never meant to hurt--

Give it up! You're making my ears hurt.

Claudia, just look at me, would you?

Why do you think I'm hiding?

Treadwell is looking for me.

This is what his th*gs have done to me.

-And now he wants to k*ll me. -Why you?

Because I didn't want to k*ll you. Or Paige.

Was that your plan from the beginning?

No. Never. I am not a k*ller.

Treadwell is... He's he's crazy. He's a lunatic.

-I have to get away, Claudia. -Good. Go!

Come with me, we'll go to Italy.

-I have friends. -I've met them. No, thank you.

[sighs] God. Claudia.

I love you and I want you to be with me.

Really?

Maybe we can ask my brother for help.

-Only he's been looking for you. -Why?

Because of the b*mb that was planted on the plane.

-A b*mb? -Yes.

Greggy was very upset.

Those planes are very expensive.

-Was anyone hurt? -Not this time.

What is it, Nick, that you think I can do for you?

It's what I think you can do with me.

Come on.

We'll spend the rest of our lives in the sun

drinking wine, making love.

Hmm?

What do you say?

These don't suit you.

-They'll heal. -What do you need?

-You? -Oh. And?

Money. Passport.

I'll see what I can do.

You got company.

-Thank God you're alright. -Why didn't you call us?

Oh. Well, I was hoping you wouldn't find out.

Wouldn't find out?

Oh, yeah, this whole thing is just ridiculous.

Look, uh...

Why don't I leave the two of you alone?

You know, you scared the hell out of me.

I just didn't want you to worry.

You and Karen have enough problems as it is.

And we'll work them out.

Right now, I'm more interested in your problems.

Well, there isn't a problem. Greg's taking care of it.

Oh, first he gets shot at

then put you on a plane with a b*mb on it.

That's not taking care of things where I come from.

Well, what am I supposed to do?

Crawl into a hole for the rest of my life?

I'll dig the hole if it'll keep you safe.

I love you. I just want to keep you around.

I'm sorry.

Maybe we can do better than digging a hole.

I'm scared, Mack.

But I can't give in. I won't give in.

It's okay.

It's okay to be scared you're not Superwoman.

Just want to stay here and work.

Otherwise I'm going to go crazy.

Tom's here. And God only knows how many guards

Greg's got hidden around here.

Okay. You call me every hour or two.

Okay.

-How is she? -She is fine.

She's a fighter.

-Like her father. -Well.

It'll cost her in the end.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with being a fighter, Mack.

As long as you don't fight your battles alone.

[instrumental music]

-Something like this, maybe? -It's perfect, yeah.

I'd like to have this sent please.

Okay, no problem. Do you want a card to go with that?

-Yeah. -Okay. That's $29.31.

-Here's 30. -Thanks.

I'll be right back with your change.

[music continues]

[instrumental music]

Paige.

Why don't you call the quits for today?

-You don't have to be here. -Yeah, well, I wanna be here.

Why?

Let's take the day off.

Let's take the week off.

Let's Sumner finds Treadwell

you and I go somewhere and bake in the sun.

It's unhealthy.

Well, we'll go somewhere where there's snow and ski

and we'll drink hot chocolate.

It's almost summer, Tom.

So you're going to hang around here

at the risk of your life.

-You know how crazy that sounds? -Yes.

-Yes, I know. -Then why?

[sighs]

You know, Tom, when you left me

all I had was my work, this office.

It gave me a reason to not feel sorry for myself.

I'm not going anywhere anymore.

How do I know that?

[instrumental music]

'Cause I love you.

Are you still in love with me?

I don't know.

Sumner ever tell you he loves you?

Hmm?

He ever ask you to marry him?

Yes.

Did he sound as if he meant it?

I mean it.

I want you to marry me.

I'm sorry that I hurt you

but that'll never happen again.

You mean too much to me.

[music continues]

-Okay. -Hmm.

God, was I hungry.

Why didn't you just help yourself?

I didn't want to be seen through the windows.

In this neighborhood everyone seems to know

everyone else's business.

Just be grateful no one saw you break in. Here.

Thank you.

Did I tell you how grateful I am to you?

Yes, many times.

Well, I want to tell you about it a little bit more.

-You do? -Mm-hmm.

Mom, I'm home.

Get back in the closet, now.

Katie. Hi, honey.

-When did you get back? -Oh, about an hour ago.

I convinced Greg to let me come home.

As long as the guard was stationed at the front door.

-Yeah, I saw him. -But what brings you here?

Oh, I'm tired of staying at the ranch. I mean, I just.

I thought I'd stay here until the whole mess is over.

-Here? -Yeah, it's okay, isn't it?

-Well, fine. Fine. -Good.

But, honey, aren't you safer at the ranch?

No, I think the ranch is so oppressive.

I mean, Uncle Greg's walking around

giving orders and smoking those smelly cigars.

It's much calmer here with you.

And you're right next door to Gary.

I'm not right next door.

Well, close enough.

Anyway, mom, it's a done deal. I'm just gonna go unpack--

No, no, no, no. Honey, please.

Let me do that for you, okay?

Yeah.

Uh, why don't you, um, go on outside

ask that guard what he would like to have for lunch, okay?

Okay.

[sighs]

[man] Okay, I'm getting a delayed reaction on this.

[indistinct chattering]

[clears throat] Where are you going, Annie?

It's just getting exciting.

Oh, gee, the excitement is k*lling me.

You wouldn't be going to visit your boyfriend now, would you?

I told you, I don't know where he is.

Well, I don't think it's a good idea

for you to go driving right now.

Why not?

Don't care about me. I'm worthless.

Or so you keep telling me.

Hey, nobody's chained you to this marriage.

[chuckles] What's that? An invitation to leave?

You're a big girl. You do what you want to do.

[sighs] You want to change the prenuptial.

[laughs] Why should I do that?

Well, if you don't, I might be tempted

to stick around and make you miserable forever.

I've lasted this long. I could go a couple more rounds.

-The question is, can you? -Oh.

Is that the plan?

To make me so miserable that I have to leave?

I don't love you, Annie.

I don't want to spend the rest of my life with you.

I never have, never will.

[sighs]

Greg, marry Paige.

You don't deserve her, but she wants you.

She's a good kid.

She should get what she wants for once.

Maybe she can make you happy.

I'm sorry, I couldn't.

Come on, you gotta go.

[indistinct chatter]

[instrumental music]

[machine whirring]

[indistinct chatter]

Who does that look like to you?

It's not Santa.

Nigel Treadwell.

The guy who's trying to take over my businesses.

He doesn't look so tough to me.

Myers.

Try getting on another plane.

-What are you doing here anyway? -I'm here to help you.

This should be good.

What if I told you

that I knew where Nick Schillace was?

I'd say, what do you want in return?

Well, for starters, a nice little savings account for Kate.

She already has one.

I want her to be very comfortable.

All right, so we give her the account, what else?

Five million dollars. Swiss bank account

my name, wired tonight.

-Is that all? -No.

There's a nice little museum job opening up in Monaco.

I have the background, the credentials.

Pull some strings. Get me the job.

Monaco, huh? What do you want, to marry a prince?

Why not? I've kissed my share of frogs.

Okay, you get the account, the money and the job

when Nick leads me to Treadwell

and Treadwell's out of the picture.

Deal.

[laughs]

Kate?

-Hi. -Hi. Hey, nice flowers.

-Thanks. -Well, they're not from me.

-They're not? -Uh-uh.

"Valley Diner 9:00 p.m. I've never seen the ocean..."

Careful.

What?

Um.

I've got to go out. Could you watch your kids?

[dramatic music]

[indistinct chatter]

Gary.

I had to make sure you weren't followed.

Val.

Yes.

-Valene? -Shh. Don't say anything.

No one can know that I'm here.

Or that you saw me.

Oh, God. Valene.

Shh, shh. Don't... react.

Don't do anything Gary.

Oh, God, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I have to do this to you.

What? How? H...

Don't... we can't talk here.

Come home.

No, I can't. It's too dangerous.

It's too dangerous.

I'm not letting you go...

Give me your coffee cup.

-Huh? -Listen to me.

Pass me your cup. Here.

I'm staying...

Here.

Room five.

Be there in 30 minutes, okay?

Now, don't get up.

Don't follow me.

[instrumental music]

Nick.

Nick, I'm home.

Hey. Did you find someone to make the false passport?

No, but I found someone better.

I'm still waiting or the take out menu dude.

Sorry, Romeo, I got a better offer.

-Yeah? -It's me.

Thought maybe I dreamed you.

No.

What do I say?

Don't say anything.

Just hold me.

Hold me.

[sobs]

Gary.

[sobs]

How are my babies?

How-how do you expect them to be?

But they know that if I would have

been able to come home, that I would have.

They think that you're dead.

-What? -Everybody does.

-Dead? -I went to Florida.

-I saw the car crash. -What?

-You were dead. -No, that wasn't me.

That was one of my kidnappers.

-His wife. -But I have your wedding ring.

No, they-they took my wedding ring.

They took everything from me, my clothes

my money, my life.

And they told me they would take your life or the kids

if I didn't do what they wanted.

Who're they? Why? What?

There's...

There's, this...

This awful man he's,

he's like the head of an international mafia

and he has this horrible plan to take over

all the major corporations.

He wants to use the Sumner Group to start his...

-What? -See I found out about it and.

And...

-What? -They...

They held me...

prisoner.

They told me that they were going to use me as bait

to get to Greg if everything else failed.

But I knew Gary that if he wanted to

he would try to k*ll you or me or the kids.

So I waited.

And I found an opportunity.

-I escaped. -It's okay, honey.

You're here. I'll protect you.

You can't, because they're watching you.

They're watching the house. I saw them.

I mean, I couldn't even call you because I knew

that the phones were probably tapped.

They're just waiting for me to show up.

See if I could just get to Greg

or Mack, and tell them what I know.

Okay, fine. But I'm not leaving you alone.

You have to, Gary. Yes you do.

No, not alone.

We'll go someplace where it's safe and we'll talk.

But I am not letting you go.

I had to keep Claudia in my side at all times.

Find her weaknesses, her vulnerabilities.

I just didn't realize I would fall in love with her

and it would hurt so much to hurt her.

-Please, Nick. -Claudia.

How did your friend Treadwell

find out so much about us?

He did his homework.

And he's, he's in town now?

-Yes -Where?

You're telling the wrong guy, Nick.

Claudia ought to keep that door locked. It'd be a lot safer.

Tell me, who invited you to this party?

What did I tell you about obstruction of justice?

I was going to turn him over to you

as soon as I got through with him.

Yeah, and after you got to Treadwell.

You know what, Sumner, I don't need any more

dead bodies on my hands okay?

Nick, come on. Taking a ride to the station house.

I'm sorry, Claudia.

Let's go.

Next time, Greg, I will arrest you.

-I'm here. -Good.

Still owe me the five million.

[doorbell ringing]

-Gary. What? -Karen.

What's wrong?

Karen, I don't know how to tell you this.

[instrumental music]

Val?

Yes.

Valene?

Yes.

Valene!

[sobbing]

-Valene. -Oh God.

-Oh, God. -Valene!

[sobs] Oh, thank God. Valene.

I don't know where he is.

That's not what you were going to tell Sumner.

Treadwell moves constantly

from city to city.

He has a chateau in France.

-And a townhouse in London. -What about here?

[sighs] He wants to establish a base of operation here

but he hasn't settled in yet.

You wanna spend the rest of your life in jail, Nick.

Stop lying to me.

-On what charges? -What charges?

The m*rder of Joel Robeson, for starters.

Come on, I didn't do it and you know it.

That was Treadwell. Or one of his higher th*gs.

As far as I'm concerned, you're the higher thug.

Okay, what about the attempted m*rder of Kate Whittaker?

It wasn't me.

-Can prove that? -Can you?

Not yet.

But I'll find enough circumstantial evidence

to tie you up in court for years.

And wouldn't Treadwell love it? hmm?

Always waiting for you to spill the beans on him

wondering what you're going to say

how much you're going to give away.

[sighs] I want protection.

Good, you got it.

I don't know where Treadwell is

but I know someone who does.

Who?

-Can't tell you. -Fine.

Then we will stay here all night long until you do.

We can stay here for the rest of our lives.

Then Sumner will be k*lled.

-And Paige. -I'm going to put a wire on you.

Absolutely not.

I'm not letting you out here a freeman Nick

I don't want to spend the rest of my life running away.

Let me bring this person to you

and all our problems will be over.

Now, Paige and Greg, are the next on his list.

We have to tell them and you have to protect--

They already know, Val. Treadwell already tried.

They've taken every precaution.

And the police are trying to find them.

You've to go to the police. You have to tell them what you know.

Well, I know, but if they find out that I'm here.

I've been over this with her.

You have no idea how strong these people are.

What about you?

You can't run forever.

-You stay with us tonight. -No.

Tomorrow we'll go to the police.

No, if I do that

then I put all of you in danger, too.

You can't stay at your house.

And you can't hide out.

If there is danger we will face it together,

the four of us.

The way we always have.

Don't you ever leave again.

-Do you understand? -Yeah.

Never again.

We all need you.

I promise.

He's out of control.

He's k*lling people.

He's asking me to k*ll people.

That was never part of the plan.

You sent me here to

to help make contacts

to acquire information

not to be a thug.

I did not hurt people.

I do not k*ll them.

And I have no intention of getting k*lled myself.

[sighs] Please, please please, you must step in.

-You must take control. -Don't worry, Nick.

You're not a thug, Treadwell misunderstood.

I'll take care of him for you.

[dramatic music]

You may not be a thug, Nick

but you haven't been doing your job either.

I was doing fine until Treadwell lost his mind.

I had absolute control of the situation--

Control? You couldn't even control Claudia Whittaker

well enough to keep her from selling her shares to Sumner.

Claudia Whittaker was eating out of the palm of my hand.

-Until that man-- -Alright, Nick.

I came here expecting to find everything arranged

for the takeover. And what do I find instead?

Sumner and that oversexed nymphet are in charge,

and Treadwell is tossing bombs around

like some crazed t*rrorists.

Abby, I risked my life today

to come here and warn you and, uh...

I need some money and a place to stay.

Don't beg, Nick.

It's not dignified.

You don't understand. If Treadwell finds out--

Why don't you go back to being a gigolo?

It suits you so much better.

Yes, this is Miss Fairgate.

I'd like a car at the Wilshire exit in a half hour.

Ciao, Nick.

[dramatic music]

Hey, hey.

[engine revving]

Did Meg get off okay?

Yeah, she's going to stay after school with the twins.

-You know, I started-- -Yeah, that's a good idea.

I've just checked on Val.

She's still sleepy.

Yeah. Unbelievable.

Yeah.

So strange, you know.

I just don't understand why I don't feel...

I mean, I don't quite...

It's just so strange.

Yeah.

All those months of hoping...

even after the accident.

Just hasn't gotten through to us.

She's so frightened.

Mack.

She'll spring back.

Who else could have survived what she's been through?

The little engine that could.

[sighs] Oh, Mack.

I'm just so scared for her.

Karen.

She was able to escape

and come across country and back home.

She's not home.

-She's not home. -But she's alive.

And you're back home. Come on.

Let's count our blessings.

-Good morning, everybody. -Good morning Ms. Matheson.

Uh, would you like anything for breakfast?

Um, no.

I'll help myself. Thanks.

So what's happening?

I was going to ask you the same thing.

Any word on Nick or Treadwell?

Nothing.

I think I'm gonna have to fire that Meyers.

[indistinct]

[laughs] What did you expect?

Where's Mother?

She packed the bags and flew the coop.

-She left you? -She left me.

What did you do to her?

I didn't do anything to her.

I'm the one who's getting jerked around here.

Excuse me while I get the violins.

You taking your mother's side?

I don't take sides.

She's going to be fine. Don't worry about your mother.

Do you think that just because you don't get hurt

that nobody else does either?

How all of a sudden does this become my fault?

Because you jerk people around

you never give anyone a straight answer

and you're not honest with anybody.

You want a straight answer? Ask a question.

Go ahead, ask. Ask any question you wanted to ask.

[imitates timer]

No guts. Too bad.

It should have been so simple.

Spot of tea, Abby?

They make it the old fashioned way here and test tea bags.

Sumner gave away the corporation, you know?

-To amateurs. -You seem rather angry.

Oh, come on.

Karen and Mack McKenzie?

A bleeding heart do-gooder and a small time lawyer,

who would not know a spreadsheet from a bed sheet.

Paige Matheson?

Claudia?

The Sumner group was ripe for a takeover.

-And it still is. -Really?

Well, Sumner is back in charge now

thanks to your Neanderthal tactics.

[telephone ringing]

Excuse me.

Yes.

No, I'd like to see the gentleman.

I'll expect you in one hour.

You know, I agree to this partnership

because I thought you were a world class financier.

We are still partners, Abby.

I suggest you go back to Japan

unless the Diet has completed its investigation

into your Trade Commission indiscretions.

I'm not going back to Japan.

Oh, well, Peru then?

Or some other third world country

that doesn't have an extradition agreement.

I'm staying right here...

and I'm taking charge.

I wouldn't do that if I were you.

Well, that's just the point, isn't it?

You're not me.

Vanessa.

Vanessa.

Oh, come in, come in.

Don't stand there like a frightened deer.

Argh. What am I going to do with you?

Please let me go.

[cries] I won't say anything to anyone.

I'll just disappear.

There's so many ways of disappearing.

[intense music]

[sobs]

Val?

Oh, I'm sorry, did I wake you?

No.

I've been awake a long time.

Why didn't you say something honey?

Why don't you come downstairs?

It's okay.

-I'll open the drapes. -No!

Don't.

No one knows you're here.

It's alright.

I'm sure they know I'm here, Karen.

They're terrible people.

And they can do awful things

to keep me from telling what I know.

Awful things.

[dramatic music]

Let go!

Nick, how good of you to come.

Be right outside.

Right on time too.

Why didn't you let them finish the job?

Because...

I wanted the pleasure taking care of you myself.

You're not going to k*ll me.

-Not in here. -You're a thief, Nick.

You broke into my hotel room to rob me.

You would expose yourself to the police.

I don't think so.

Philip Grovenor.

Nobody knows what Treadwell looks like.

Well.

Any last wishes, d*ck?

Blindfold. Cigarette?

[g*nsh*t]

[sobs]

[siren wailing]

[instrumental music]

[camera shutter clicks]

Tom.

He was registered as Phillip Grover

but according to the young woman it's Treadwell.

-And where is she? -She's in the room over there.

Is it okay to move the body? We're all finished in here.

Yeah.

You know, it's a nice shirt.

Okay fellas, he's all yours.

Let me have a minute with her, please.

Yes, sir.

You okay, Vanessa?

-I k*lled him. -Don't say anything, okay?

You have the right to remain silent.

I don't care.

I'm glad he's dead.

Vanesa, Treawell couldn't have been alone now.

Where're his men?

They ran off.

Was there anyone else here?

No.

I'm going to have to take you to the station.

We'll arrange for an attorney to represent you.

-Officer. -Okay.

-Oh, hi. -Hi.

I wasn't sure I'd get you home.

Oh, well, you almost didn't.

I was on my way to the library.

What are you doing here in the middle of the day?

Oh, I had to come out this way and see a subcontractor.

No, it's not true.

Kate, I have to talk to you.

Uh-huh.

I should have leveled with you this morning.

Is this about the flowers

or the person you had to go see last night?

[sighs]

It was Val.

-What? -She's alive.

What?

I know, Believe me, I know.

She wasn't in the car that I saw blow up.

But, um...

Kate, I feel...

[sighs] I'm sorry.

You shouldn't be sorry about it.

Kate.

I'm so sorry about...

Don't be sorry.

It's wonderful, Gary, it is.

It is.

[instrumental music]

Well, that's great news, Tom.

Yeah, I'll tell him.

Oh, tonight I have so much work to do.

Um, yeah, okay. Tomorrow.

I'll see you there. All right, bye.

Hey, good news.

Vanessa Hunt k*lled Treadwell. I know.

You're looking for a lift to the office?

-Yeah. You going in? -You weren't?

What were you thinking of selling me your 2/3?

I survived Treadwell. I can survive you.

You know I'm not giving up until I get the entire company back.

But I'm younger. More energy to fight.

-Yeah, but I'm smarter. -You think so?

I know so.

You know, Tom asked me to marry him.

No kidding. When's the wedding?

I haven't given him an answer yet.

What's taking so long?

I wanted to ask you something.

And I want an honest answer.

Do you love me?

[imitates timer]

You had a chance to an honest answer this morning.

Just tell me.

You know how everything I touch turns to lead.

Thanks for being honest.

-Oh! -Are you ready?

I'm sorry.

Well, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you.

No, it's alright. Oh.

[chuckles]

I came by earlier this morning. You were asleep.

-I was? -Yeah.

I think it's probably the first time I've slept since I left.

Honey, I want you to come home.

No, Gary, I can't do that.

Not yet. It is too dangerous for the kids.

What's this?

I was just, um...

writing some things down, things...

that I remember they said. I thought maybe it would

Help me this morning.

What?

So many times I thought about you.

Every part of you.

And I wondered if I would ever see you again.

Oh, honey, I'm sorry. It's...

-What? -Good news, Treadwell is dead.

It happened about an hour ago.

What?

Tom Ryan called from police headquarters.

-No. -You're free.

You can go home.

-No. -It's true, Val.

-It's been on the news. -You can see the kids now.

-Yeah. -No. Oh, my God.

Oh, no. Wait.

How am I going to do this? I mean.

They can't see me like this.

They're not going to understand, it-it'll frighten them.

Gary, you're going to have to talk to them first.

-Are you kidding me? -No.

They're going to be the happiest kids in the world.

Believe me. The happiest kids in the history of the world.

[laughter]

Katie.

Katie, are you home?

Katie. Katie.

Katie.

Oh, there you are, honey.

Honey, it is over. It is over. Over.

Over. No more threats, no more hiding.

No more being afraid, that evil man has been k*lled.

-What? -Treadwell.

Honey.

-What's wrong? -Nothing.

Val's alive.

And she's here in Knot's Landing.

What? No.

Honey, that's impossible.

I mean, where could she have been?

How could she be alive?

She is. And Gary has seen her.

-Oh, Katie, honey, I'm sorry. -Oh, it's--

I don't need any sympathy.

It's great for Gary and the kids.

And not so great for you.

Me?

I'm a monster. I wish she'd never come back.

I understand. And you are no monster.

How can you understand? You can't understand that.

Katie, I know this hurts.

But honey, it will pass.

You're young and you have a lifetime ahead of you.

Don't say any more about it, okay?

Okay.

Come on, let's go home and watch TV.

There's that one show I wanted to watch.

Bobby, Betsy, come here.

-How come you're picking us up? -Look, I've got to talk to you.

Now, listen. No, no, no. It's nothing bad.

I've got to say this fast

because you're going to be shocked.

Mom's alive and she come back.

Betsy, she's not...

-Mommy! Mom! -Mom!

Betsy!

Come here.

I love you too, sweetie.

My precious babies.

Angel babies.

I've missed you.

I love you. I love you. I love you.

Anne.

You look terrible.

Oh. Why not?

I've hit rock bottom.

Well, join the club.

I did today what I should have done months ago.

I left Greg.

Maybe you shouldn't have.

I just couldn't take the humiliation anymore.

Humiliation is not the worst thing in the world. Believe me.

Sweetheart, your hands are trembling.

Today I was this close

to being a dead man.

Who tried to k*ll you?

Treadwell aimed a g*n at my heart

but before he could pull the trigger

Vanessa shot him.

Vanessa?

That, that little flake.

She saved my life.

What did I do?

I ran.

What kind of a man am I?

Well, not the John Wayne type.

Anne, please do not joke.

When Treadwell was about to pull the trigger

my life flashed in front of me.

Enough is enough. That's it.

All I want from now on...

is a normal life.

What you want is money.

Money and a normal life.

Normal is boring.

Normal is...

ordinary.

We're not ordinary people.

Maybe we can learn.

What? A nine to five job?

A condo in the Marina?

[scoffs] I don't think so.

Anne. No more scamming.

That's right.

No more dealing with ruthless people

like Treadwell and Abby Fairgate.

Abby?

The one who used to be married to Greg?

Yeah, so what?

She's not as evil as Treadwell

but she is a wicked lady.

She's just as determined to get her hands

on the Sumner Group, believe me.

What do you know about her?

[knock on the door]

Later, I'm busy.

Not too busy for me, I hope.

Abby.

-I've been expecting you. -Really?

How long could you stay in Japan?

Those people aren't very enlightened

when it comes to women, now, are they?

Fortunately, that cliche didn't apply to me.

I bet it didn't.

What can I do for you?

[chuckles] Well.

I want the Summer Group.

[laughs] Get in line.

Actually, I'm at the head of the line.

Treadwell was my partner.

No kidding.

And I thought it was the Brit who shot him.

He did get a little out of line

but I had nothing to do with his death.

I don't believe in violence.

You don't believe in anything.

Oh, come on. I do too. I believe in...

Money and power.

So you were behind the takeover attempt all along.

-I still am. -And I'm still not selling.

Oh, Greg, come on.

I don't think you have any choice.

Not with the information I can take

to the Justice Department.

It's like old times, Abby.

Have a seat. Have a cigar.

Tell me about Japan.

Japan is a lovely country.

And how's Brian?

He is well, very well.

Greg, I'm serious about the takeover.

We can either work out a deal, or I can

turn you over to justice and have you shut down.

You really are a tough broad, you know that?

I learned the hard way.

From Treadwell?

[laughs] From you.

Come on, can we make a deal?

I don't know, I'd like you to be a little bit

more specific, you know?

Tell me what cards you're holding.

[sighs] Not cards. Facts.

Facts about the computer virus

that almost shut down Burton Biotech.

Facts about laundering hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Facts about a million dollars

that was embezzled from your foundation

in the guise of a phony environmental grant?

Any one of those infractions could shut you down

lead to an investigation and most likely

criminal indictments.

Got to hand it to you, Blondie. You've done your homework.

Mm-hmm.

I thought we might be able to work something out.

So should I have my lawyer talk to your lawyer?

Why don't you let me think about it?

Greg, I've been looking over the parlor--

Paige!

Hi!

Well, well.

Well. Nice to see you too.

Is it?

Don't look at me. I didn't have anything to do with it.

I don't have the plague, you know.

It's too bad.

Such a sweet girl.

It's funny how some things never change.

Mm-hmm. Look, I know you're real busy, so I'm gonna go.

And, Greg?

Don't keep me waiting too long.

Congratulations, Paige.

You have done very well for yourself.

What do you want, Abby?

You know, I didn't expect a red carpet,

but couldn't we be a little more pleasant?

Why?

Look at what I've left you.

My office.

Money. Power.

Greg.

Oh, yes, Greg. Thank you.

By the way, are you still sleeping with Greg?

Every morning. Every night. Twice on Saturdays.

He's just getting better and better.

I didn't think so.

Have a nice day.

b*tch.

[sobs]

Vanessa.

I'm sorry that they had to keep you here overnight.

This isn't going to take very long though, okay?

And then what?

Don't worry, okay?

Can I get you something to drink?

A glass of water or something?

Tom, what's gonna happen to me?

This is just a formality, okay

I just have a few questions to ask you.

Don't worry.

Okay.

Now.

Um, Mr. Treadwell had a g*n in his hand

when he was k*lled, right?

Right.

He was pointing at...

At you.

-Yeah. -Okay.

Well, had he threatened your life before?

-Oh, yeah, many times. -Okay.

Did you feel that your life was in danger yesterday?

Yes, I did.

Why was that? Was there another incident?

He forced himself on me sexually.

And then he went into the other room.

To get his g*n?

-Is that what you thought? -Yes, that's what I thought.

And I was really, really scared, and then I remembered

that he had another g*n in the closet.

So I got it.

And I went into the sitting room and I shot him

and I'm really, really glad

because he was a really horrible man.

And he deserved to die.

Vanesa.

That was self-defense.

Okay?

I've talked to the DA's office.

They're not going to charge you.

You're free to go.

I can go?

As soon as the paperwork's finished.

[knock on the door]

Hi, you neighbor.

How did it go last night, huh?

I could hardly keep away, the kids

they must have...

It must have been quite a reunion.

Yeah, it was.

They were...

Oh. God, Karen, what's wrong with me?

I'm home here, and it's just...

Oh, honey.

[knocks on the door] Gary.

-Mack. -Hey.

I just thought I'd stop by, but if you're too busy.

No, it's okay. I shouldn't have even come into work today.

Well, we can talk later.

Val seemed to want me out of the house.

She kind of wanted to...

[groans] I don't know what she wants.

It's so weird, we're almost shy with each other.

Especially the kids.

They'll come around.

Val.

What?

Gary.

He's so distant, so distracted.

And now that she's back...

I don't know I seem to be having trouble accepting it.

We haven't even talked that much.

Tell me.

Was there somebody else?

Does Kate have anything to do with this?

What have I done to her?

Yeah, well.

You know, she's young. She'll get over it.

The point is, will you?

Val.

Under the circumstances--

It never happened to you or Mack

under any circumstances?

I'm not so sure.

I want the kind of marriage that you and Karen have.

[chuckles]

No marriage is perfect, my friend.

Yeah, okay. So you had one problem.

One problem in ten years.

But you just solved it.

You and Mack, are very unique.

-Val. -Karen.

You've always been something for me to hang on to.

Mrs. Sumner.

Annie.

Why aren't you at work?

This is the way I think.

About your ex-wife?

You're not my ex-wife yet,

at least not legally.

Not me. Abby.

I know she's back, and I know

she wants to take over the Sumner Group.

Word travels fast.

You here to sympathize?

No.

I'm here to sell you some information about her.

Very incriminating information, that should be worth a lot

to be kept out of Sumner's hands.

Why don't you go back to the continent, Nick?

Names, dates.

Copies of transactions linking you to Treadwell.

International money laundering?

ill*gal weapons deals.

You know, Nick, you really should be

romancing wealthy dowagers

and charming naive heiresses.

You're very good at that.

I can be very serious. if I have to.

And I have information that could put you in prison

for a long time, if...

I don't get what I want.

And what do you want for this, uh,

so-called information?

First of all, I would like your apologies.

You hurt my feelings yesterday.

Plus... you almost got me k*lled.

Oh, Nick.

I'm so sorry.

Good.

And I want money.

Lots of money.

[mellow music]

-Kids, okay? -Yeah

They sound asleep.

Val.

I gave all your clothes away.

Good.

Great excuse for a shopping spree.

I thought I'd lost you forever.

I walked around like a zombie for months.

[sighs] If it hadn't been for Mack and Karen I...

And for Kate?

She was good to the kids.

She was very good to you.

[sighs]

I wanted to fall in love with her.

I tried.

But I couldn't.

Are you sure?

I have never...

loved anyone...

the way I've loved you.

And I feel sorry for her.

Yeah.

I sure feel good for us.

Give us a kiss.

Piece of cake.

[instrumental music]

[sighs]

Oh, God.

[sighs]

-This is ridiculous. -What?

-What we're doing. -What?

We're acting like an old married couple.

We are an old married couple.

[chuckles] Maybe you're an old married couple

but I'm not an old married couple.

I'm just acting like an old married couple

walking around here on egg shells afraid to open my mouth.

Afraid that if I say anything our marriage is gonna break up.

-Have I made you feel that way? -Yeah.

No, you haven't, I didn't, what?

[laughs]

What are you laughing at?

It feels so good to have you yell again.

I feel like a damn fool.

I almost wrecked this marriage, because I didn't want

to show you how helpless I felt.

I just wanted to protect you and make so much

I almost went off the deep end.

But I'm not going to say I'm sorry anymore

and I'm not going to let this marriage go down the tubes.

I love you so much.

Oh, Mack, I missed you so much

when I was in New York I wanted to call you so many times.

-Why didn't you? -Pride. Stubbornness.

I can be very stubborn, you know.

-Oh, no, fool. -I'm sorry I didn't believe you.

I'm sorry. I'm so controlling.

-I'm sorry. I feel like I-- -Karen, Karen-

Karen, do me a favor.

Anything.

Shut up.

-Oh. -Please.

[moans]

[knock on the door]

Hi.

Am I too late?

Well, that depends.

I couldn't get away before this.

I came to say goodbye.

-What's this? -I'm packing.

I'm going away too.

What a coincidence.

Where are you going?

So you thought you'd just sneak off

without saying goodbye?

No, I was going to send you a postcard from Hawaii.

Tom and I are getting married.

What?

Where are you off to?

You can't.

Can't what?

You don't love him.

What do you know about love, Mother?

Enough to recognize it when I see it?

Did you recognize it when you married Greg?

I married Greg knowing

he was in love with someone else.

[laughs] No, it doesn't matter.

It does matter.

Greg loves you and you love him.

You'd be making the worst mistake of your life

if you married Tom Ryan.

Well, save it from one of your talk shows, mother.

Paige.

I'm not going to go through the litany of horrible things

I've done to you in the past.

But whether you believe this or not.

I love you.

You better think about what you're doing.

Greg's never going to make it easy.

But what he feels about you is the real thing.

I know you love him as much as he loves you.

And that's why you can't marry Tom.

Keep in touch, mother.

[instrumental music]

Just follow your heart Paige.

That's what I'm going to do.

[music continues]

[sniffles]

-Hi. -Hi.

-Um, I'm glad-- -I can't thank you enough.

The twins told me all about all you've done.

And Gary too. of course.

I'm glad you're back.

You spent a lot of time with them.

Yeah.

They love you very much, Kate.

Well, I love them too. I think they're terrific.

Yeah, well, they they can't stop talking about you.

Um, Val, I want to talk to you about--

Kate. Don't.

Okay? I know.

-I'm sorry. -Kate.

If I had died...

you are what I would have wanted...

for Gary.

Alright.

I'm gonna make some travel arrangements.

I'm leaving Knots Landing.

-No. Kate why? -Yeah, I'm...

I'm going to go back to school

and I don't know maybe look into theater arts.

I hope that you don't feel that you have to go away.

Okay.

Val.

He never stopped loving you.

Thank you.

Will you stop thinking about Paige?

She's a big girl. She'll do the right thing.

Paige has never done the right way.

Anne.

Come on, think on the bright side, huh.

We pulled off a brilliant maneuver,

a classic.

A double pay off that will keep us

in the lifestyle of the rich and famous forever.

-We did, didn't we? -Indeed, we did.

[chuckles]

Annie?

Nick. I thought I recognized you.

Claudia. Hi.

Hello. Are you meeting someone?

No, we are on our way to Paris.

Oh.

[announcer] Pan Oceanic Airlines announces flight 216.

Nonstop to Paris .

Those passengers holding first class tickets

please board on Gate 42.

Well, that's my flight.

-Ours, too. -Oh

Nick, we should board.

-Where are you sitting? -Economy?

Economy? That's cute.

No, I only travel first class.

Oh, let me help you with that, please.

-Thank you. Merci . -Please.

Well, will you be in Paris long?

Oh, we're just passing through.

We rented a villa in Monaco.

Monaco? I'm going there too.

I just accepted a job as curator of the Musee DeSantis.

Oh, Musee DeSantis?

[speaking in foreign language]

You know what, I think there are

valuable pieces of China in that museum.

Oh, Nick.

-Nick. -Oh.

I do hope we're sitting together.

[chuckles]

-Hi. -You going up?

Yeah, to see you.

-God, you look great, Abby. -Thank you.

You look a little tired.

Just getting older.

So.

Do we have a deal?

No deal. I bought myself an insurance policy yesterday.

How is that going to help?

Well, it's a terrific policy. Has an indemnity clause.

Come on, Greg.

I don't really want to go to the US attorney.

I don't want to ruin you, or the Sumner Group.

I simply want to buy you out

at a fair price.

I'm sorry, I can't do that.

You see, this policy I've bought is well documented paperwork

tying you to some dirty international dealings.

[sighs] Nick.

Nick. I bought this policy from a woman.

I guess she could have been one of his agents.

Treadwell should have finished him off.

Abby, you're the one who's finished.

Sayonara , Blondie.

Paige.

I heard rumors that you were hanging out in here.

Get out of my office.

-What? -You heard me.

I own 2/3 of this company. I want this office.

You can have my old office.

-Over there? -Yeah.

I looked at the Pollard Semiconductor venture.

We're backing off until they complete their restructuring.

I've okayed the Hatcher project with one or two provisos

next to deal with Robertson Goldstone

and set up a meeting to explore the Jennings buyout.

-Any questions? -Well, no.

Very impressive.

I bet I could learn a lot from you.

-You think so? -Yeah, I know so.

However, we'd have to spend an inordinate

amount of time together.

-What did you have in mind? -Nights.

Long nights. Weekends.

Vacations.

Breakfasts, lunch and dinners.

You think you can handle all of that?

Anything for the company.

Great.

Why don't you run over there and make us some coffee?

-Then we can drink to this? -Coffee?

You're going to need vitamins, pops.

[instrumental music]

Hey, nice throw. Nice throw.

Keep your nose pointed to the ball.

Nice catch. That's the way to do it.

There you go. That way your eye is always on--

It's almost time for dinner. Wash up.

Why don't you start the fire?

Sure, Meg, here, take this with you

[kids chattering]

-Hi. -Hey.

Looks like the new neighbors are moving in.

[Karen] Should we gawk or not?

[laughs]

Well, come on, I'm making the fire.

-I'll help you. -Wait, wait, take this.

I think I'm gonna gawk.

Oh, I think they're newlyweds.

Yeah, probably their first house.

[mellow music]

In other words I don't have any charcoal.

-You don't have any charcoal? -No charcoal.

-I got charcoal. -Thank you for the charcoal.

-Mack forgot the charcoal. -There is some on the garage.

Or there used to be anyway.

[tires screeching]

Gary.

Hi.

I found out Claudia's house is on the market.

[music continues]

Hi, Ab.

Welcome home.

Karen, hello.

Just like old times, isn't it?

[instrumental music]

[theme music]
