11x13 - Oh Brother

Post by bunniefuu »

[phone ringing]

-Hello. -I'm thinking of you.

-Obviously. -I'm thinking of you so much,

I can't go to sleep.

-Really? -Really.

What are you thinking about? My mind or my body?

What difference does it make as long

as I'm thinking about you?

Just curious.

The deal was, I think of you every minute of every day

and you end up right here in my bed.

Oh, the deal.

Those were your terms.

There's no fine print,

no mention of the particulars of my thoughts,

no stipulation as to what aspect

of your lovely self might pique my interest

at any given moment.

Just that I think of you.

You make it sound almost poetic.

Well, I got a little poetry in me.

A bunch of the boys were whooping it up

at the Malamute Saloon.

The kid that handles the music box

was hitting the Jag time too.

The truth of the matter is, I'm thinking about your body.

Do you want to hear the specifics?

Am I going to be able to sleep after hearing these specifics?

-I hope not. -Then, I think I better pass.

-So go to sleep, you chicken. -I don't think I can now.

Good.

Now you know how I feel.

[instrumental music]

[theme music playing]

[male narrator] Previously on Knots Landing.

How about celebrating with a...

gigantic piece of chocolate cake?

-Oh, I would love to. -Good!

-But I made a date. -With whom?

[Greg] I was beginning to think

your meeting would never break up.

I made an early reservation. Are you ready?

You're a very sexy older man who can have anyone he wants.

Wait a second, we can do without the older part.

You're going to have to show me that you give a damn.

I can't be with you anymore because... I like it too much.

I have a crush on you.

And...

I'm miserable.

I thought Eric wanted a divorce.

He's changed his mind.

To my oldest closest friend, my brother.

-Yeah! -Hear, hear.

You and Eric will work things out.

[crying] I don't want to work things out with Eric

because I'm in love with Michael.

[music continues]

[Mack] Can't sleep?

-[Karen] No. -[Mack] Why not?

[Karen] Linda loves Michael.

-Linda? -She told me she...

she loved Michael and...

[whispering] I just can't figure out what to do.

Oh.

Did she tell Michael?

I don't know.

-Did she tell Eric? -I don't know.

Oh, God, I hope not. How could all of this happen?

What am I saying, how could this happen?

She's alone without her husband

and we let her spend all her free time with Michael.

I'm not taking the blame for this.

Well, we weren't as careful as we should have been, that's all.

Is Michael attracted to her?

I don't know.

[Mack grunts]

-I should have a talk with him. -Not if he doesn't know.

Right, right.

[Mack scoffs]

It's probably nothing. I mean, he is... responsible.

If you were 21 and you were thrown together

with an attractive woman...

They were not just thrown together.

[Karen] What do you mean "not thrown together"--

...with an attractive woman--

She just insists she knows it--

Just like I would know it if I were 21.

To answer your question, look,

it's a crush like you said.

Her husband was thousands of miles away.

And her brother-in-law just happened to be there.

When you're not with the one you love...

-You love the one you're with. -Oh, the one you wish.

I'm going to sleep on the couch.

-Why? -I'll be more comfortable there.

-Why? -Because,

-I'm not comfortable here! -Why not?

We're getting the divorce, Eric!

-I don't want to. -Nevertheless.

Look, I didn't ask to have sex.

We don't have to have sex right now.

-That's not it. -What is it?

I just want to sleep on the couch

because I'll be more comfortable there.

And in the morning, when everybody sees you,

-what are you going to say? -That's what's bothering you?

What bothers me is you feel obligated

to tell the whole world we are not getting along--

The whole world already knows,

so why not tell them if it's the truth?

Why broadcast our problems?

You are more concerned with what people

think about you than how I feel.

And I guess that's what's wrong with this marriage.

I guess that's why this marriage is over.

Look, I'll take the couch so you can be more comfortable.

[sighs]

[Michael] Hey.

-[Eric] Hey. Can't sleep? -No, and you?

No, this... this divorce thing's really getting to me.

Yeah, well, what I guess.

Well, goodnight.

[Eric] She says I'm too critical.

-Are you? -I point something out.

I make a suggestion. I'm being too critical.

But when she has something to say, it's always for my good.

And she has plenty to say.

An opinion on everything, from the ozone layer

to the throwaway to missiles.

In her case, at least Don Regan didn't know

what he was talking about.

And stubborn.

She doesn't give an inch!

I don't care before playing a game of Clue

or deciding what to have for dinner.

Once she locks on to an idea, that's it.

I get in trouble if I put the teaspoons

where the soup spoons are supposed to go.

She puts a lot of thought into everything she does,

so I guess she expects everyone else to do the same.

Do you know how objectionable it is

to take advice from your younger brother?

I was just going to say that...

you only really talk about her faults.

I mean, do you ever do anything wrong?

Is it all one sided?

Yeah, you're right. I'll... work on it.

[instrumental music]

[phone ringing]

[ringing continues]

-Hello? -Good morning.

Good morning.

I'm still thinking about you.

I thought about you when I went to sleep

and I was thinking about you when I woke up.

I'm flattered.

Actually, I had something more physical

in mind than flattery.

There goes that hopelessly romantic side

of you surfacing again.

Listen, clarify something for me, will you?

Are these requirements mutual?

Do you have to think of me every minute of every day?

Because I can monitor my thoughts,

but I can't monitor yours.

This could prove to be a burden.

[instrumental music]

Yo! You still there?

Yeah, I'm still here.

And what are you thinking about?

[laughs]

-[Mack sighs] -[Peggy] What's the matter?

[Mack laughs] Nothing.

Oh.

"Oh"?

Oh!

"Oh" as in you don't believe nothing is the matter?

"Oh" as in something's bothering you,

it's your business, not mine.

I understand perfectly.

Oh.

What's bothering me, what's bothering me, Peggy,

is the number of problems I can't do anything about.

Are we talking personal, professional,

or state of the world problems?

Right.

Oh.

Oh, come on, don't say "oh" like that again.

-[Mack] Please. -Pardon me for living.

I'm just trying to not be one of those problems

you can't do anything about.

Good news.

Hello, this is Cheerful Bunch?

[Mack] No.

Oh, oh, no, no, no. Never mind.

Never mind.

I don't want to know what's bothering either of you.

I found Pomerantz.

-[Mack] You're kidding. -[Peggy] Who?

-[Frank] The name. -[Mack] Pomerantz.

The lead Mack had on Okmin Industries?

Guess what, you guys are Number's cruncher.

He was the accountant who handled the pension fund

for Okmin Industries.

[Mack] You have his address?

Would I report in without an address?

Oh, don't mind him. He's in a mood.

Oh.

Don't say "oh" like that again, please.

[man] You were right, Tom. Mack MacKenzie is still at it.

-His partner... what's his name? -[Tom] Frank Williams.

[man] Frank Williams has been trying to track down Pomerantz.

I wonder where Williams got Pomerantz's name

in the first place.

[man] In any case, we are grateful Tom,

for alerting us to the problem.

[bills crackling]

[Joe] What's your hurry, Tom? Oh, yeah, right.

You got to get back to surveillance

of Mr. MacKenzie.

Look, if you ever need help stinking out his daughter,

I'm available.

You're as tasteless as you are stupid.

Oh, not as stupid as you think I am, Tommy.

And not as stupid as the old man upstairs.

You may fool him, but you don't fool me.

-[Joe laughs] -What are you saying?

You're saying that I gave Pomerantz's name

to MacKenzie, is that what you're saying?

I'm saying, even I would consider

feeding Pomerantz's name to MacKenzie to make sure

he stayed interested if it meant I get to continue

to baffle his daughter.

You got it all figured out, Joe.

Oh, I know that Paige Matheson is mighty fine motivation,

and I know that the name Pomerantz

isn't going to help MacKenzie one bit.

So, it looks as if you can have your cake

and eat it too, so to speak.

[laughing]

[woman] Are we talking about the same Pomerantz?

[Frank] Reuben Pomerantz.

This is the correct address, right?

Are you relatives?

[both] No.

You wouldn't be, otherwise you'd know

Mr. Pomerantz is dead.

He died about two months ago.

-Interesting, isn't it? -What?

All of this, the way they put a show like this together.

I guess.

-Look, Linda... -Not here, Eric.

I thought you didn't care who knew about our problems.

All I wanted to say is I know I'm partly to blame

for this situation and I'm going to try to be less critical.

Eric, I think you're sweet,

but I don't want you to change unless you want to change.

And definitely not for me, because I don't want

to be married to you anymore, I don't love you.

Hi.

[Karen clears throat] Um...

Can you give me a glass of water?

-Two minutes. -Okay.

I've been... trying to get you alone.

You haven't told Eric what you told me.

That I love Michael?

-Yes. -No.

Good.

Because in all fairness to Eric--

Michael has nothing to do with my divorce.

I fell in love with him after I decided to leave Eric.

So I don't know why everybody questions me

and doubts my motives.

I mean, why does Eric want to stay in a marriage

that doesn't work? Why does Michael love me?

-Why does Michael... -Love me.

Why didn't you tell me about Linda and you?

-What about Linda and me? -She says she loves you.

Well, there's not a lot I can do about that, is--

Michael, she happens to be your brother's wife!

You think I don't know that?

Hey Michael, did your sister-in-law ever--?

Oh, excuse me. Yeah, I'll... I'll catch you up.

What are you accusing me of?

At the very least, bad judgment.

-Meaning? -You tell me. What happened?

-Nothing. -Do you love her?

She is Eric's wife.

Did you give her any reason to think you love her?

Did you say anything to her that she might have misunderstood?

I got to get back to work, mom.

[papers crinkling]

I don't even know you anymore.

You quit college.

You spend money as if it's an endless supply.

And then you break up your brother's marriage.

I didn't want to break up his marriage.

-I didn't break up-- -Linda thinks you love her!

Well, what exactly can I do about that?

Make it clear.

Tell her you don't.

-[Tom] You don't like it? -It's a beautiful

charm bracelet, I just said it was too expensive, that's all.

Wasn't too expensive.

[sighs] Tom, I know the price of gold.

-It must've cost you over $1000. -Shh.

Got it off the street.

I couldn't bring it back if I wanted to, so stop.

I'll see you later.

-[Paige] Hi. -Hi.

You and I really don't know each other.

-No. -But we have

something in common.

-We do? -Yeah, Greg Sumner.

-Aha. -Oh!

I'm not interested in him in that way anymore.

But I would like to say...

I'm gonna get some advice here, aren't I?

-Oh, it's free. -Is that it's worth?

Just watch out for him. Be careful.

I'm always careful.

You mean to tell me you're not?

[scoffs]

[phone ringing]

[sighs]

What happened to you?

-[Karen] What? -I said, what happened?

I don't understand how you could date that man.

I'm the last one to give you advice on who to date.

-Have you lost your mind? -What are you talking about?

What do you mean, what am I talking about?

Greg. Greg Sumner?

Why are you here?

I just attended the meeting for the West Coast

conservationists, a meeting you just missed.

[elevator rings]

Well, well, well.

[Karen] Good afternoon.

Nice to see you too.

You know, this could be providential,

You and I, meeting like this.

-Kismet, maybe little fate. -An accident, really.

Listen, I've been thinking about you.

-You've been thinking about me? -I have been thinking about you.

And so apparently have a lot of other people.

Be nice.

"Notice to the defendant Ben Gibson,

you are being sued by plaintiff Valene Ewing Gibson."

What a weird sensation, divorcing somebody

I haven't even seen in three years.

So you are going to marry... Danny.

I mean, you're gonna go through with this thing.

I intend to marry Danny, yes.

[Ginny] Honey.

Gary came by this morning.

How about some coffee Ginny, huh?

No, thank you. He says...

That Danny is a r*pist.

[dramatic music]

I know what Gary says.

And I will not have you bring that subject up

in front of Danny or the children

or for that matter, in front of me.

-Do you understand? -You don't believe Gary?

Of course I don't.

But how can you be sure, honey?

[sighs loudly] Ginny.

But what if? I mean, just what if

he did r*pe that poor woman--

Ginny.

If he did...

Where are the police? Is he in jail?

Have they even filed charges?

No, this is something his ex-wife cooked up

because she's jealous of his happiness.

And she doesn't want him to marry me, alright?

[birds chirping]

Who was Pomerantz?

The bookkeeper for the Okmin Industries pension fund.

Heart failure.

Date. Time.

[Mack] You're the coroner, right?

So, do us a favor.

Uh...

Pretend you're suspicious, okay?

Do you see anything wrong with that medical report?

Nope. What are you looking for?

We don't think he died of natural causes.

Convince a judge and have an autopsy.

[puffs]

-He was cremated. -Tough luck.

Well, suppose we're right.

Suppose Pomerantz was m*rder*d.

What in that report will tell us that?

This is all routine.

The only person who would know if the natural causes

were in fact unnatural would be...

The doctor.

Don't accuse him of lying... unless you can prove it.

Well, doctor, the last thing we'd ever want to do

is to call you a liar.

You're not in the least bit convincing.

We appreciate you just taking the time to see us, doctor.

What is your interest in Mr. Pomerantz's death?

[Frank] Well, to be perfectly frank...

and I do feel obligated to speak frankly,

I hope this does not offend you.

It has been suggested that the stated cause

of Mr. Pomerantz's death might be an error.

It has been suggested?

-Yes, sir. - Yes.

By whom has it been suggested?

We are not at liberty to say, sir.

Are you suggesting that the death certificate

is an error?

We are wondering about the possibilities

of error, sir.

-None. No possibility. -Thank you.

And thank you for that assurance.

Why did they call you?

Are you a staff physician for Okmin Industries?

No, I happened to be in the building that day.

Happened to be?

[doctor] I was having a meeting with my accountant,

who has an office in that building,

and while they were waiting for the paramedics

to come to Mr. Pomerantz's aid,

a call went out over the public address system.

-Oh. -You, you mean like...

[both] He's a doctor now?

Exactly.

-Thank you. -Thank you for your time.

Goodbye, gentlemen.

If you were any sweeter, he'd have a toothache.

If you were any meaner, I'd have to put you on a leash.

-I think he's lying-- -Or telling the truth.

Sometimes, Frank, sometimes you're just not fun to be with.

I'm hurt. I thought you liked me.

-Sometimes. -[scoffs]

-Sometimes. -I'm hurt. I'm really hurt.

[Gary] You know, you don't have to stay in your apartment.

-You can stay here. -I know, I know.

-I'm not coming on to you. -Well, darn.

Oh, come on. You know what I mean.

I mean, you can have your own room.

Hell, you can have your own building.

There's a cottage outback.

That's really nice of you, but--

I just thought it'd be kind of depressing

staying in your apartment.

But it's the same apartment it was before I was r*ped.

If I give it up now, it's going to be like

Danny's getting away with even more.

[knocks on door]

[Val] You have no right to talk to Ginny.

Why did you do that?

And you, you are not going to get away with this.

Oh, come on Val. Don't talk to her like that.

-He's dangerous, Val. -[Val] Stop it.

I don't want what happened to me to happen to you!

This is sick, you know that?

[Gary] Face it, Val. The man should be locked up.

[Val] This whole thing is sick.

Not just that she makes these accusations.

He r*ped me, Val. Danny r*ped me.

But you, you have to believe her.

-This is so sick. -Go home, Val.

I am going to marry this man.

And there is nothing that either one of you

can say or do that's going to change that.

I'm getting so tired of the crazy women

in your life, Gary. First, Jill--

Crazy women?

Crazy women?

[wheezes] Who's talking?

[birds chirping]

[sighs]

[Frank] I'm sorry you didn't get along with your brother, man.

How do you get along with someone

who gives up his values to go work for a place like Okmin?

You didn't agree with your brother

working for Okmin Industries?

You show me someone who says something nice about Okmin,

and I'll show you somebody who's on the take.

[sighs] They're scum, all of them. Slime.

He knew how I felt about him working there.

I told him often enough.

[laughing] And then, he takes me out of his will.

I mean, can you imagine leaving your sister out of your will?

If it weren't for his uncle...

[Frank] We didn't know there were

other surviving relatives.

Yes, me and our uncle who is a Saint.

He was the only beneficiary and...

he remembers me every month.

Can we talk to this uncle?

Well, that's really up to him, isn't it?

Yeah.

His name is Aaron Stahl.

Doctor Aaron Stahl?

Yes.

And he's a Saint.

A living Saint.

[suspenseful music]

[Mort] Whoa!

Somebody must be burning the old midnight oil.

I had some things to catch up on.

Hey, Miguelito.

Tough break, having a looker like Theresa

for your sister-in-law, huh?

[singing] You can look, but you better not touch.

Yeah, poison Ivy.

-Goodnight, Mort. -It all makes sense now.

You couldn't give me her phone number, huh?

[chuckles]

She couldn't call me.

I comprendo completamente.

Oh, um... amigo,

if she does decide to go through with her divorce,

you let me know about it.

Pronto.

[dramatic music]

-What kind of soup is this? -[Meg] Chicken noodles.

Chicken noodles? Can I have a taste of cake?

[dishes clinking]

Mm! That's very good.

Why don't you go play with your coloring book?

-Okay? -Alright.

[suspenseful music]

Where is Michael?

Oh, he... had to work late.

He's just staying away on purpose.

Do you blame him?

[sighs] Oh, Mack.

I don't think I had any effect on him at all.

Come on, Karen. He's responsible.

He's bright.

[Mack sighs]

I'll talk to him the first chance I get, but...

I don't know what I'm going to say.

You better talk to him.

[Linda] Don't put that there.

-Why not? -It'll break.

You don't stack glasses like that.

"You don't" means you don't.

I don't, or people in general don't.

as in one doesn't stack the dishes that way.

Why are you being so sarcastic? I was simply stating a fact.

Glasses get broken that way.

You never simply state a fact, Linda.

You're incapable of simply stating a fact.

Your facts are like weapons. You use them like bombs.

[imitates b*mb noises]

You're overreacting.

Maybe.

Maybe I'm just shell shocked.

[Karen] Honey, there's a great movie on TV tonight.

Maybe we can make some popcorn.

What did Linda do now?

-[Meg] Popcorn? -[Mack] Popcorn.

Miss Vertosick to see you, sir.

Thank you, Carlos. See you in the morning.

Very well, sir.

[ambient music]

Couple of lousy phone calls...

and you're ready to jump on my bones.

God, are you easy.

That's not it.

I'm just tired of being awakened

in the middle of the night by the telephone.

I figured if you're going to wake me up

in the middle of the night,

there are better ways to do it than by phone.

[dishes clinking]

[sighs] Where is everybody?

They all went upstairs.

-What did you tell my mom? -The truth.

Which is?

Which is that you feel the same way about me

as I feel about you, and that I love you.

Well, no wonder she was so upset.

She was upset.

What is your mother being upset about anything

have to do with anything?

What about me, Michael? What about us?

-There is no us. -Michael.

Can you honestly tell me that you don't love me?

[Eric] Hey.

The corporate superstar's home.

-All work, no plan. -Yeah, well.

Hey, look, I'm sorry about before.

[Linda] Yeah, well.

Look, I'm really tired. I'm going to go up to bed.

-Goodnight. -Goodnight.

Goodnight.

[footsteps]

[sighs]

Took your advice.

Trying to see her side of things, trying to compromise.

Told her I was willing to change.

She said, "don't bother".

Well, at least you tried.

[Eric scoffs]

It makes me wonder if there's somebody else.

What?

Maybe my marriage is a lost cause

for reasons I don't even know.

She said anything to you about it?

-About what? -Us, the marriage.

The divorce.

[plastic paper crinkling]

Not really.

Do you think she's seeing somebody else?

-Somebody else? -Yeah, you know.

Like a boyfriend or something.

Nah.

You sure she hasn't been going out with some other guy?

[sighs]

Not as far as I know of.

She hasn't mentioned another guy or talked about another guy?

No.

[Eric exhales]

[instrumental music]

God!

[music continues]

[Ginny] Now you see, if I hold this

right like this, your sock right here,

and I concentrate,

I can tell you something about yourself

that I never knew before.

Let's see. I see...

I see you running away from your sister.

And you have taken something from her?

A boat?

He did it, he did it! He took my boat.

Oh.

-You don't really see that. -Did you give it back?

He hid it.

Behind the swing on the patio.

Aha.

You're magic.

No, no, darling, I'm not magic.

But I practice psychometry.

I can get feelings and pictures of things

through things that have been close to people.

[Val] Alright, end of the fairy tale.

Here it is, here it is!

Hey, kids, it's bath time.

-Up you go. -Bath time, already?

Yeah, already.

Don't be filling their heads with that nonsense, okay?

Come here.

You were just kidding, weren't you?

Um... let me have your belt.

I brought it for my mom.

Oh, even better.

Okay. Here it is.

Thank you, honey. Let's see.

[exhales softly] Ah.

I must be tired.

Why? What is it?

Well, I saw your mother working as a doctor

in a hospital and I mean, I know your mother is not a doctor.

Although she might have been wearing this

when she went to see a doctor.

You see, sometimes the images get all mixed up when I'm tired.

[instrumental music]

Ah.

Here, let me help you finish.

Oh, no, you don't have to.

Oh, no, no, I insist, there's not much left and this way

it makes me feel as if I'm earning my supper.

Suit yourself.

Aunt Ginny...

Val says I should get used to calling you that.

[laughs]

I...

It's very embarrassing for me.

I want to reassure you that...

[exhales nervously]

I know what Gary told you. He told you that I...

assaulted Amanda.

I just want to get up and shout.

I want to, I want to shout in the street.

I want to take out an ad,

what she's saying about me is not true!

I didn't r*pe her.

[instrumental music]

And I think that people will think

that I protest so much that I must be guilty.

And then I think that if I don't protest,

if I don't deny it strongly,

they're going to think that I'm not denying it enough.

It's very frustrating.

It scares the heck out of me.

Sorry that you had to hear it.

I want you to know that...

I have never done anything remotely like that

in my entire life.

Well...

Thank you for taking the time to tell me.

And thanks for helping with the dishes.

No, thank you.

[sighs]

[dramatic music]

[exhales]

[Ginny] He's done some awful, ugly things, Gary.

Has he threatened you?

No, he's been as nice as could be, but I'm...

I'm picking up this reading off his watch.

-His watch? - Psychometry, Gary.

Freeman and I got to be very good at it,

but I have never felt such...

anger, such violence.

Look, Ginny, until I can convince Val,

promise me you won't leave him alone with the children.

-Promise? -[chuckles]

Are you looking for this?

I promise.

[music continues]

[exhales]

[Karen] Mack and I fight.

Not a lot, not all the time, but we, we do fight.

Argue, really.

-Why do you tell me that? -Because I just want...

I want to make sure that, you know, that...

people survive... disagreements.

My marriage has survived disagreements.

But it's... hard work.

You can't just have one fight and just... run away.

-I'm not a child. -I know you're not a child.

But you did get married after you...

after you knew Eric for how long?

-Two weeks. -Two weeks.

It was a mistake.

I just want to make sure that this decision

is not the same mistake.

You don't want to jump into divorce

the same way you jumped into marriage.

I wasn't sure about the marriage.

I'm very sure about the divorce.

I tried to make it work.

It just didn't.

I've thought this through and I've made my decision,

but you want me to... stick it out

when I don't want to stick it out.

I'm sorry, I know you mean well.

No.

-[Ginny] Hi, Gary. -[Gary] Hi.

[Ginny] You missed Valene again.

-She's off picking up the kids. -[Gary] Yeah, I know.

I mean... I know she wasn't here.

You know, Valene is very upset with you.

She just doesn't understand

why you're saying all those things about Danny.

Aha. Well, did you tell her because they're true?

I told her the only thing that I could tell her, Gary,

is that you believe what you're saying

and that she should consider the possibility

that maybe you're right.

-Aha. What'd she say? -She will not consider it.

Well, she's not being reasonable, look...

[sighs loudly]

I want you to take this.

-[Ginny gasps] -For safety.

Oh, no! Gary, no!

Well, what else can I do?

I will not allow a g*n like that loaded in a house with children.

Shame on you.

I mean, you say that Val is not being reasonable.

Well, you just look at yourself. Shame on you.

[sighs]

Hey, you know, guys, we're out of milk.

Eric, do me a favor, would you get down and get a container?

Sure. No problem.

[Michael] I thought we had plenty of milk.

Yeah, we need it for Meg when she gets home later.

Alright, I'll do it now.

There you go, take my keys.

Oh, no. I need to walk. Thanks. I need to exercise.

Hey, Mike.

-Michael. Michael. -Mack, I'll see you later.

-I'm late for work. -Wait.

-I'm in a hurry. -So am I.

Look, I know what this is about. I'm not interested in--

-What is this about? -Linda, right?

Linda, right.

[birds chirping]

[suspenseful music]

I trust you, Michael.

We have a situation here where nobody's at fault.

It's not Linda's fault she's attracted to you.

It's not your fault you're attracted to her.

[Mack] It's not your fault that they're getting divorced.

Still, we have to consider Eric's feelings.

[Michael] Don't you think I know that?

[Mack] Wouldn't do him any good to find out about this.

[Michael] Look, I'm not going to walk up to him and say,

"Hey Eric, I fell in love with your wife".

[Mack] I just wanted to make sure we're in sync.

[Michael] Mack, this has been the worst couple months

of my life.

Maybe somewhere down the line you won't feel so miserable.

Well, I hope not.

If this is what love is like, I don't need it.

You're a good man, Michael. I'm proud of you.

[suspenseful music]

[door opens]

[door closes]

[music continues]

Now I know what the problem with my marriage is, Michael.

You.

-No. -You're the problem.

That's not true.

-You're going to deny it, punk? -Eric...

I heard everything you said, punk.

-I didn't do anything. -What's that supposed to mean?

It means I didn't do anything.

Nothing happened.

I guess that means you didn't have sex with my wife.

I didn't!

But it doesn't mean you didn't do anything!

It doesn't mean nothing happened!

You did something, you ruined my marriage!

That was not my fault!

Whose fault was it? I didn't lie.

I didn't lie!

I asked you if Linda was seeing someone else

and you said no!

We weren't seeing each other!

No, you were just falling in love.

-This isn't fair. -You can say that again.

[Michael groans]

[Michael pants]

[dramatic music]

The good doctor deposited an $800,000 check

into his personal account the day before Pomerantz died.

How did you get his bank records?

Don't tell me.

I know this money came from Okmin.

Now, an improvement of two different things.

Thank you, Sherlock.

I'll get testing Mack, even if you can prove

the money was from Okmin,

how are you going to prove he falsified the death certificate?

Let's take a ride.

Where?

-To see the doctor. -No, it's Wednesday.

-[Mack] So? -[Frank] So what?

He's a doctor. It's Wednesday.

[doctor] Hey!

It's harassment, Juvenile gentleman.

Your tactics are primitive, now.

You get off the green or I'll call security.

[Mack] You call security. I'll call the police.

Call the police. Call the armies.

Just get off the green.

You know, Dr. Stahl, you'd feel so much better if you tell us

what really happened to Pomerantz, we don't want you.

-We want to know who paid. -Yeah. Who gave the order?

The order?

The order to falsify the death certificate.

Who told you to cover up a homicide?

-Homicide? -Yeah, don't worry.

We don't think you k*lled Pomerantz.

-[doctor] No one was k*lled. -So let's start with judge.

Alright, I did falsify the death certificate.

Other than that, we did nothing ill*gal.

Not that I know of.

Now, the money was a loan.

It was a bad loan, but it was legal.

Isn't m*rder ill*gal?

No one was m*rder*d. Reuben isn't dead.

He's living in Toronto.

[dramatic music]

Michael.

You didn't go to work?

-Is Eric inside? -He left.

-Where'd he go? -I don't know.

-He packed and left. -What?

Back to Saudi Arabia.

Back to school, I don't know, he's gone.

[Karen] What do you mean he's gone?

-Did you tell him? -I didn't tell him!

He found out.

[dramatic music]

[Linda] Oh, you scared me.

-Linda-- -No, don't.

Just don't say anything.

You're going to make me cry, okay?

You know what's so backwards about this whole mess

is that everyone blames me for the divorce.

-I just want you to understand-- -The truth is...

that I had a crush on your brother.

A crush.

Just a crush.

And the mistake was marrying him.

But you...

I love you.

And it's not just a crush.

I'm not marrying you.

And that's the mistake everyone should be blaming me for.

And nobody is.

[melancholic music]

[Michael] Oh, yeah.

[Michael] You're getting so big.

Did Linda say where she was going?

Yeah, she's going to be staying at a motel

until she finds an apartment.

Oh.

Can she afford it?

I don't know.

[Michael sighs]

Michael.

Weeks ago I asked you if Eric and Linda

were getting along, and how Linda was doing.

You knew then, didn't you?

-Yes. -Why didn't you tell me?

What good would it have done?

I'm trying to figure out where things went wrong.

Well, so am I, mom. So am I.

All day long I've been trying to figure out

where things went wrong and I can't.

I didn't do anything wrong.

I didn't mean to fall in love with a woman

I shouldn't fall in love with.

Eric didn't do anything wrong. Linda didn't do anything wrong.

We all did what we thought was the right thing to do.

[Karen] What's that?

-Are you taking that to Linda? -No.

-I'm moving out. -Michael.

-Bye, mom. -But wait, Michael.

Wait, where-where are you going?

I'm going to stay with Harold for a while.

Goodbye.

[dramatic music]

-[male narrator] Next on Knots Landing. -Hello.

Tom, Mack. I found Pomerantz.

Can you meet me outside your apartment in ten minutes?

I am not going to spend the rest of my life

in a dump arguing over the price of soda.

You mean you don't want to try and work this out?

[man] Find out if Pomerantz has anything.

If he does, get it and k*ll them both.

-Both? -I'm tired

of screwing around with MacKenzie.

Come on, I'm tired of dancing with you, Pomerantz.

Let's have it.

They've been in the briefcase all the time.

[theme music playing]
