10x18 - 7 Cars, 4 days, 1 Bitchin' Event

Post by bunniefuu »

[truck horn honking]

Am I gonna buy it?

[Shannon] Caviar.

Pretty color.

[man] That's a lot.

Might've been too much.

[bleep]
That shrunk up way too much.

[man] Just push hard.
It's fine.

If the brakes don't work,
just push harder,

that's what he said.

We got seven cars,

four days
of an absolute madness.

-[man] That's Dave back here.
-[Dave laughs]

Okay. When you think
you've seen it all.

[man 1] Not hilarious.

[man 2] Feels pretty good.

I think
it's feeling really good.

I am here today to ink a deal.

[rock music playing]

[narrator] When I look
at a black canvas,

I see endless possibilities.

As the ideas come to mind,

the lines start to fall
into place.

And before you know it,

we have a bitchin' ride.

[tires squealing]

[narrator] A bitchin' ride
has intense color.

-[man chuckles]
-[Dave] This is gorgeous.

[narrator] Performance.

[man] It's fantastic.

[narrator]
Stance, wheels, sound.

[car revving]

[narrator]
If there's one thing that
makes our cars stand out,

ours are Bitchin' Rides.

[Dave] Well,
it never gets old.

[man laughs]

[mellow music playing]

[Dave] Outside the shop,
the sun is shining,

the birds are chirping,
the grass is getting greener,

but inside,
it's SEMA crunch time.

[rock music playing]

[Tim] All right, Cole.

So we're gonna get this thing
cleaned for SEMA.

You work in the back,
I work in the front.

Basically, anything that
has dirt and dust on it,

let's wipe it down.

-Gum.
-Yeah.

-Fingerprints.
-Fingerprints,

anything we missed.

[upbeat music playing]

[Tim] I think it's pretty cool
to see our cars at SEMA

growing up and seeing
all the SEMA builds.

And then,
when I started recreating

and getting cars to SEMA,
stuff like that.

So I think it's...

I think it's really neat
to see all our cars at SEMA.

Anything I touch, I think,
is really cool to see there

and see people appreciate it
or win awards for anything.

It's like Tim said,
it's just something

I've always seen
as a kid or...

You know,
once I got more into cars,

like SEMA's the show.

Yeah, all the new products,
all the cool new builds

that people are doing.

SEMA is just around the corner
and we got seven cars

going to Las Vegas this year,

and so it's time to make sure
they're all perfect

and make sure
we got a good spot for them.

It's looking good.

Just making sure
I have the right clearances

on this cover
over the supercharger.

It's just off a little bit.

So... just clearance a couple
of things underneath it,

now I'm checking it
to make sure it's good.

And so it has little landing
pads underneath this cover

that rest down on top
of the supercharger.

Where it's resting,

I just gotta shave
a 32nd of an inch off of that

and then, I can turn around
and test it again.

Put it on, lock it down,

and just make sure
it's just right.

These are definitely
the little things

for... SEMA
or just in general,

just the detail,
just ever so slightly.

Yeah, just a little bit more
and it will be done.

[rock music playing]

[Kenny] Looks fantastic.

Kenny's gonna wrap up on this
Challenger of Kevin Hart and

while he's doing that,

Shannon's finish up
the Bronco.

[machine whirring]

Had to do a little touchup
on this door,

I'm having a little bit
of trouble

with trying to get
the color right.

So, fifty sprayer cards later,
here we are.

Hopefully, it matches good.

Kindig-It Design
has one policy about SEMA

and that is we only take
our very best

and it has to be finished
perfect.

It's a lot better than before.

Anyways.

[dramatic music playing]

It's really, really,
really close.

And I think we're probably
just hyperfocusing on it

at this point.

Okay.

-I think we're on
the right track, though.
-Yeah.

[rock music playing]

[car engine revving]

[Greg] Dude, I'm gonna check
my air flow

into each one
of the horns here,

make sure they're good,

and then, I might have
to dial them all in,

but it's actually going
really good right now.

So if Pringle will get
back here with my tools,

I can have this done.

No more questions.

[rock music playing]

We're balancing out each bank

so they're pulling
the exact same air

through each side.

I've checked everything.

I can't do the trans
until it heat cycles

and loads everything up.

As soon as we get it
warmed up,

I'm gonna lift it up and sit

and go through each gear
to push that fluid through.

[engine humming]

[engine revving]

[Jason] We got to look at the
trans where the fans turn on.

We know that works properly.

And then, right now,
we're just trying

to get the idle set,
so it's not idling too high.

Right?

Yup.

I'm not an engine guy.

We're reaching 20.

Huh?

Yeah, let's shut it off.

I just wanna check,
let that cool down.

Actually,
this thing went excellent

for the first start up,
it's the first one

that I've done so far
that we haven't had to make

major adjustments or anything.

Fired it up,
the Borla was all dialed in,

a couple little tweaks on it.

Everything's looking good.

So hopefully,
this is the cursor

to the rest of them
that are coming.

[chuckles]

[tape clicking]

We are putting our tape
lines down for our trim

and we get these on there,

pull off the top one,

and then,
that's just our alignment

so we can align it
with our bumperettes.

And then, as soon
as we get these on here,

we'll pull off this top line,
follow the bottom line,

and we can stick
our trim on there.

[Austyn] Who's got the best
deadeye in the shop?

Me.

Yeah, it's dipping right now.

I can see it a little bit.

[rock music playing]

Hold this.

[Dave]
To get the trim perfect,

it needs to be straight,

which means there needs
to be two guys on this job.

Goes up and down.

[Austyn] Yeah,
it's because of the curve.

It's 'cause when...

Yeah.

[Will] Let's re-pull.

Pull them both off.

Get three-quarter inch wide,

that extra quarter
makes a huge difference.

[man] Right there.

[upbeat music playing]

[Will] Right there.

[Austyn] Right there.

Getting it.

-Okay. Real quick, though.
-Mmm-hmm.

[man] This is, like, one
of those Christmas presents

that take you four hours to...

-[Austyn] Unwrap.
-get them out of the package.

Hey, at least there's
none of those zip ties

that you can barely get off.

That's true.

[upbeat music playing]

You good?

I'm just holding it.

Then as soon
as you stick yours,

just lock down it.

That's it.

[upbeat music playing]

I'm gonna put a mark
on the point.

[upbeat music playing]

Let me look at that.

How's that?

I think we're right.

[Austyn] Okay.

It's all coming together.

[upbeat music playing]

-Just the man I wanna see.
-[Dave laughs]

What are you doing, Mike?
How are you?

-Great to see you again.
-Good to see you.

The one and only Corvette Mike
has just popped into town

and he has his eye
on one of our CF1s.

It's been a minute since
we met down at the auction.

That was pretty cool
to meet you there and...

Absolutely.

It's quite an honor
to have Corvette Mike here

and more importantly,
it's very much more an honor

to have him interested
in one of our CF1s.

I was looking at the build,
it wasn't obvious

that the car
was a one off custom build

-by you from scratch.
-Right.

And that's where
I became interested.

You obviously came up here
to look at these cars.

I...
Are you actually interested

in talking about getting one?

Seeing what you're doing
is super important to me.

Do you have something
you can show me?

Boy, do I ever?

I've actually got
a whole factory behind me

that's in progress right now.

Let me take you
into the magic factory

and show you how they
go together, how's that?

-I'm a driver.
-All right. Let's go.

-Let's go check them out.
-All right.

You're gonna love these
by the way.

It's like a magical little
microwave building Corvettes.

[upbeat music playing]

[Dave]
The paint bits right here,

we've got number seven,
it's a dark,

dark turquoise or teal color.

I cannot wait to see
that one out in the sunlight.

It is just gonna
be absolutely intense.

This is number three.

This one is all electric.

-Electric?
-It's full electric.

Wow.

[Dave] The construction
of these are so well done,

it doesn't shrink.

[Corvette Mike]
And it's not gonna shrink
into the fiberglass?

It's not fiberglass.

These aren't fiberglass?

All carbon fiber.

Wow.

What's the dunce cap?

[Dave] The dunce cap
is to be able to identify

which car is which.

-Oh.
-So this is car number eight.

So you're telling me
you've sold that many

since I've seen you last?

I sold a lot of them, yes.

-Wow. Very cool.
-Number nine

is actually the next one
available.

[Corvette Mike]
Let's look at that.

[Dave] These are really cool
to actually see

before they go
on the chassis.

The inside of the tubs?

Those are textured
with the carbon fiber layout.

This is a special material
out of Spain

and it's a very,
very strong carbon.

-This car is available?
-This one's available.

This is the next one
available right here.

This one right here
is number five.

Of course, it's got
our Lingenfelter 427,

it's an LS7 with LS3 heads,
Borla 8-stack injection.

Look how beautiful
the fit and finish is

on the windshield.

Yeah, they never fit
like that.

Nope. This one does. [laughs]

-Back in the '50s.
-Right.

-This is where
you put the fuel in.
-Very cool.

You don't have to take the cap
off, it just pass through.

And the bottom of the cars
are just magnificent.

This is how nice
they finish out.

-Oh, yeah.
-Full polished
stainless exhaust.

-Oh, yeah.
-Powder-coated chassis.

-Love it.
-Isn't that beautiful?

The workmanship
is over-the-top.

Yeah. Let me show you
the electric one over here.

This is our chassis.
This is 800 volts.

We have about a 560 horsepower
twin motor setup.

It's capable of over 3,200
foot pounds of torque.

-[laughs]
-What?

[Dave] I can actually put
a motor up here

and go all-wheel drive,

which increases as well

into the 4,000-plus
foot pounds of torque.

I didn't do a front motor
in this one

because I wanna be able
to put two sets

of golf clubs in the front.

Or maybe just pick up
pickleball.

-[laughs]
-No, this is great.

Thank you.

I mean, most car finishes
aren't this nice.

-I know.
-Well...

I wasn't expecting
any of this.

It's a little overwhelming

-to say the least.
-Mmm-hmm.

But I'm on a short leash.

Gotta get back to the airport.

Why don't we talk
some numbers?

Let's run up to my office

and, uh, heck, let's go take
a picture next to number nine.

Maybe that'll be yours.

-Hey, that's a great idea.
-[laughs]

Come on, Mike.

[dramatic music playing]

So, you think you might be
interested in one of these?

What are you... What...

Do you have a color in mind
that you'd wanna do?

Color?

Yeah.

Well, first, I think I need
to get to the point

where am I gonna buy one?

[suspenseful music playing]

I think
that we're gonna have a lot

of great times building a car

if I'm assuming that you are
interested in number nine.

I am here today to ink a deal.

-Okay.
-All right? I love the car.

It's beyond my expectations.

You know, I don't
think Corvette Mike

just came all the way out here
to buy a T-shirt.

I'm really hoping he's down
to buy one of our cars.

I think I'm there.

I think we maybe need
to talk about how

to sweeten up the deal
maybe or something.

Something exclusive,
maybe that you gotta throw in

or something for the Corvette
Mike edition or something.

Color is extremely important
on that car.

The palette is endless.

-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.
-What we could do.

I think I have a couple ideas.

No two CF1 Roadsters have ever
left this place looking alike,

nor will they ever.

So I think I have something
really special

for Corvette Mike

that he's gonna
absolutely love.

Mike, I can't tell you
how excited I am.

This is gonna be a lot of fun.
And it's such an honor

to actually get to work
with you too.

The honor is actually working
with you.

Well, thank you very much.
I really appreciate it.

Even though the CF1
is a standardized program,

there still a lot of things

that actually have to be done
by hand individually

for every single car.

Like the grille,
for instance.

I am taking a grille
that we get

that is one of the original
parts off a Corvette,

and making it fit ours.

[hip-hop music playing]

[Curtis] So I'm stretching it,
shrinking it.

And then I'm gonna put
the grille in the back of it.

We try not to touch the body.

We want the grille to fit
the body as good as we can

before we body work it.

Yeah, and this thing,
you just go little by little.

There we go.

Now it's just back and forth,
and back and forth,

back and forth. [laughs]

All right.
Now I'm working on the bottom

to try and get the grille
to match the body line.

It was really more concave
than the body is,

so I'm stretching the metal.

So instead of having it
like this,

it's bringing it
back out flat.

Got a couple of gap, like
I'm tight over on this side.

Kind of tight right here,
we're right in the middle.

I have a hooptie.

I need to try
and work out a bit.

There we go. That moved.

Before, I had a big old gap
right here in the middle

because the two ends
were touching.

And now I'm a lot closer.

I'm not there yet,
but it's right freaking there.

Yeah.

That is a lot.

It might've been too much.

[quirky music playing]

[bleep].

Yeah, I shrunk that
way too much.

So I went too far
the first time shrinking.

Now I gotta
just slowly walk it back.

This thing moves a lot
of material

really freaking fast.

Stretches out in one little
area and shrunk at another,

and it...
Hold it in a little bit.

I don't know
if I wanna go anymore.

I don't know how much more
I can get away with.

Yeah, I think
I'm gonna leave that.

Finally got it to where
I'm pretty happy about it.

So I had to trim off
the bottom of this thing

and then make up...
My aligns match,

so that it all...
I can fit this mesh on here.

So sit flat and then we can
power hammer it

to give it some dish
and some structure,

and some style.

[rock music playing]

So the mesh will screw
into these

that match up with the back
of the grille shell.

And then these ones
in here get studs,

which actually mounted
to the car.

I'm calling that good
for now.

I'm gonna start
laying out my line

so we could take this
into the power hammer

and start getting it
shaped out.

I'm gonna start
making the holes

to mount the grille
to the... To the shell.

And then I'll start
cutting out the surround

and get it fit in.

[Curtis] Do a little
final cleanup on the shell

to make sure it's matching
pretty and straight.

And then I'm good.

Trim it down, done.

[soft music playing]

[Dave] Corvette Mike's CF1
is gonna need a little bit
of body work

before we can put
this beautiful

Jaguar Caviar paint on it.

[Shannon] This is a pearl.

If you have
your air pressure right

and your spray pattern right,

they kind of go
where they need to be.

The metallics have
kind of manipulated in it,

so they kind of float.

Corvette Mike
is absolutely right.

The color combination
is everything

and I think I have something
that's both clean and classy.

[Shannon] Caviar.

It's a pretty color.

I didn't know
this was the color of caviar.

[Shannon] We have to work
around all those panels

and if we smack it
with air hose

or drag ourselves across it,

then we got a whole problem.

So we gotta try to make sure
that we just get skinny,

so... [laughs]

[upbeat music playing]

[truck horn honks]

[Dave]
Kev, what do we got, man?

Well, it's gonna be
a humungous year.

-We got seven cars...
-Four days.

...of an absolute madness
of automotive heaven.

[Dave] That's right.

Really cool to bring the cars

that we're bringing
this time.

I think it's gonna blow
everybody's socks off.

Oh, no. I can't wait.

And I heard that the numbers

are gonna be humongous
this year.

They're talking 2019 numbers,

which is awesome.

-[Dave] It's great.
-[Kevin] We're back.

[Dave] That's right, baby.
That's right.

If you're not here,
well, you lost out.

-Hey, you're missing out.
-It's too late.

Okay, dawg. So game plan today
is we got three cars with us,

the other ones arrive
a day after tomorrow.

So we'll get the canopy up,
get the rooftop stage set up,

get all the chairs set up,
the store set up.

Floor's down now.

We're actually really making
great time.

Truck looks awesome,
by the way.

Good job on the wash.

And we're gonna try to get
a couple cars inside today

and then we'll wait
for the rest of them

to show up on Monday.

Damn, that thing
is beautiful.

Hey, you're a rock star.

Setting up the booth
at this point

is really like simple.

We've done it so many times.

The difficult part
of this trip

is gonna get all
of these cars down here,

get them all prepped and ready
and set in their booths.

You know, SEMA has changed
for me over the years.

It's always fun, 100%.

You get to see
the latest, greatest,

you get to see everyone's
takes on everything.

Obviously over the years,

it's been a little bit
more demanding,

we've taken more cars,

seems to be a little bit
more work.

But I love it.

When I first started coming
to SEMA,

it was just me and Dave.

We just get a hotel room,
it was really easy.

But now obviously
we have tractor trailers,

transporters,
all sorts of different things.

We have cars,
we have signings,

I could never have imagined

that it would be
like it is today.

And it's, like, I'm living
a dream, it's amazing.

Is it a lot of work?

Of course it is,
but it's worth it.

There's a couple
of different things

that excite me
about coming to SEMA.

One, seeing the latest,

greatest of everything
and the best.

Two, catch up
with all of my old friends,

and three, it's Las Vegas.

So that one,
I think what we'll do

since we have that
open area right there.

-[man] Mmm-hmm.
-Come straight in,
I'm gonna pull forward

and I'm gonna long slow

and we'll get lined up
and it goes on this one.

[engine starts]

If the brakes don't work,
just push harder,

that's what he said.

[laughs]

Okay.

[dramatic music playing]

[Kevin] Dave, what I would say
for right now

is I'd back it
as far up as it'll go.

[Dave] Okay. You tell me.

[Kevin] Will you just
watch the clearance?

We're a little bit
over this way,

so kind of head that way
and we'll straighten her out.

[dramatic music playing]

[Dave] Do you want me
to come down and reset?

[Kevin] Yeah.

Straight from there, Dave,
just a little bit, straight.

Little bit.

Okay. Stop. Good.

Dude, that looks so dope.

[dramatic music playing]

Dude, you better have
got that, that was money.

We got the Challenger inside

and the emplacement looks
amazing in this booth.

But the next car that's going
on the other lift, well,

that might be a little bit
more of a challenge.

[Kevin] What are you doing?

[Dave] I'm gonna measure it
to see how wide

that track needs to be.

It's like MacGyver tool.

[Kevin] Yeah. [laughs]

-Come on, help me.
-[Kevin] What?

-Help me, help me.
-Help me.

Okay. So we just need
to measure the inside.

[Dave] Yeah. The inside.

-[Kevin] There.
-[Dave] Right there?

[Kevin] Tighten it.

[Dave] Uh, yeah,
let's pull it out real quick.

[Kevin]
And you just walk it over?

-Yeah.
-[Kevin] You're so smart.

-You know, my grandfather
was a pretty sharp guy...
-[Kevin] Yeah.

-and I think I just got
a lot of his traits, really.
-[Kevin] Yeah.

If this works, I'm gonna have
to give Dave credit.

He's used this pole
to measure out this car.

Well, if it works, it works.

Oh, snap.

It's gonna be too tight.

This particular ramp has

a funny little
situation going on,

there's a couple of vertical
ribs on this thing

that might be just
a little too wide

to fit between the big
fat a*s tires on the CF1.

[tense music playing]

You had a tape measure
the whole [bleep] time?

Yeah, I didn't know
what you were doing, okay.

Forty-one and a...

forty-one and a...
forty-one and a quarter.

I was being ingenuitive
is what I was being.

I'm gonna have
to give Dave some credit,

he's being ingenuitive

and, hey, that's what we do,
right?

Turns out
Kev's got a measuring tape,

so we'll just use
the official version.

[Kevin] Yeah.
Uh, more than that.

[Dave] What do we got?

I don't know.

Could you move?

I was gonna measure your--

Just leave it alone.
Here you go.

So we're gonna
measure the width

between the rear tires
on the CF1 to the ramp

and make sure that this thing
will actually go on here.

[Kevin]
Forty-two, so you gotta...

If we're gonna be
right on them.

-It's like this car...
-[Dave] So it'll just
squeak, squeak.

[Kevin] it's like this car
was made for it.

Okay. Let's roll.

You had a tape measure
the whole time?

-Yeah. Sorry.
-[bleep].

[upbeat music playing]

[Dave] The tape measure
says the car's gonna fit.

My method looks like

it says it's gonna fit,
it's gonna fit.

Go that way, there you go.

Almost there, all's we got
left is to put the C10

in Dynamat's booth
and get it in place.

[upbeat music playing]

[Dave] Good.

Stop.

Well, they're all inside.

Yup. Everything is going
super smooth.

Uh, it looks like
they already have one car

cleaned over there.

They're working
on the other two.

We're gonna come
and get this one knocked out.

Cover these things up
and be ready

for the show to open tomorrow.

[upbeat music playing]

You know, this is obviously
one of the parts that I like

about being able to come down
to SEMA and set up

and be here
a day before the show opens

as we can kind of
cruise around

and kind of eye
a couple of things

that people haven't
even seen yet.

-[Dave] Right.
-[Kevin] So let's go
check it out.

Uh, let's do some research
as they say.

[upbeat music playing]

-I was eyeing
this black low-rider earlier.
-Oh, look at that.

-That's cool.
-Ah, I gotta see that.

There's so much work
in this thing.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] Ai chiquita.

[Will laughs]

When are you gonna start
doing murals again?

[Kevin] Is that Dave?

[Will] That's Dave back here.

You're little older
than the rest of us.

[Dave] They made me
a lot older,

-I look like a skeleton.
-[Will laughs]

[Dave] Dude, this is sick.

I love... Look at the wheels.

[Kevin] I know, look,
it's all engraved.

[Dave] All the trim.

-[Will] Wow.
-[Kevin] There's something
about...

You know,
I'm not a huge gold guy.

-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.
-[Kevin] It's something
about black and gold...

-Mmm-hmm.
-that, like, catches my eye

every single time.

[tense music playing]

Okay. When you think
you've seen it all...

-Okay. What?
-and then...

[Will] Wow.

When you think
you've seen it all and then...

-[Kevin] That's a H-1.
-[Will] And its shops.

[upbeat music playing]

We're here in Las Vegas,
Nevada, SEMA Show,

and everywhere we turn,
there's another gem.

[Will] Holy cow.

And that's another thing
about SEMA

is it's just you never know
what you're gonna see.

Did I ever think that
I'd see a lowered chopped

H-1 ever in my life?

-No.
-Absolutely not.

[upbeat music playing]

-[Dave] Can I get in there?
-[woman] Absolutely.

[laughter]

[Dave] Roger that.
Uh, we're, uh, heading over

to pick up the ladies.

[Kevin]
The crazy part about it

is it's like everything else.
When you chop it,

it makes it look
even wider than it is.

-[Dave] Is that 5-speed
transmission in there?
-[Kevin] Yeah.

And a big block.

[Dave laughs]

[Kevin] Hit all the buttons
and fire this thing up.

[Dave] I love it.

[Kevin] Well, look,
the windows just
slide in on track.

[man] Wow.

I had to make this
from scratch too.

The whole roof
is made from scratch,

-and I framed it out of inch
and a half square tubing.
-[Dave] Yeah.

[woman] Uh, and I have
a JD Squared Bender

and I bought square dies

and, so, like,
all the A and the B pillar,

they're, uh, eight-inch wall,
I really made it...

-Beefy.
-beefy.

Uh, I mean, it's like,

I don't think
I'd ever roll it over.

But I was, like,
you know, just in case.

-But just in case.
-Right.

The roof is skinned
on the top and the bottom...

-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.
-and I fill it
with rigid foam,

-like, a portable...
-[Dave] Yeah.

-foam, like, for boat decks.
-[Dave] Yeah.

The doors are also built
the same way,

framed out of the inch
and a half square,

and, uh, I've used
over 2,500 rivets,

-I have Hedman Hedders...
-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.

and then I did
three inch exhaust

-back to the Flowmaster
FX mufflers...
-[Dave] Nice.

which I think are just
basically [indistinct]

-[Dave] Yup.
-[woman]
Just GM stock suspension.

-[Dave] Nice.
-[woman] So, uh,
no problem lining unit.

-[Dave] It's so awesome.
-[Will] And off of all that,

look at the roof lining.

This is so cool.

-Thank you.
-It's just unique.

-Thanks.
-Great theme,
great accomplishment.

-[woman] Thank you.
-[Dave] Awesome.

I've been coming
to the SEMA Show for so long.

This is, like, the ultimate
brainstorming session.

I love to look at other
people's takes on stuff,

different color combinations,
different styles,

different genres of vehicles,

it's all here
and it's all now.

Now, look at this, this...

Now, there's my...
This is my speed.

[upbeat music playing]

[Will] It's on the ground,

it doesn't look like
it has much speed.

[Kevin] Well, eventually
it gets going.

[Dave laughs]

[Will] Ooh, it's sparkly.

Look at that paint.
That's pretty cool.

It's a big flake in it.

[Will] I just wanna see it
pull a big trailer.

[Kevin] It's got a big hitch.

[Will] I know.

Yeah. That's cool.

He needs to get here
and clean it,

but other than that,
it's good.

[laughs]

-Dude, look at that.
-Whoa.

[laughs]

Dude, Cabover Dually

with a motorcycle in the back.

[upbeat music playing]

-[Will] And what?
-[Dave] How's it going, man?

-[Will] A hundred
and [indistinct]
-[man] [indistinct]

-[Kevin] Dude,
that is awesome.
-[indistinct] Mexico.

That is awesome.

Is this your truck?
Oh, okay. Awesome.

-[man] '56.
-[Dave] Beautiful.

-[Kevin] That's cool.
-[Dave] Nice.

-[Kevin] That's super cool.
-[Kevin] So cool.

[Kevin] The only thing
that could make it better

-is if it was a Chevy.
-[man] Yeah.

-[Dave laughs]
-[Kevin] We're gonna
leave that there.

SEMA for me,
it's kind of like the Mecca.

You'll get the best
of just kind of every realm

of any type of vehicle
coming to SEMA,

because people are wanting
to show off the greatest

of what they got this year,
it's the place to be.

[dramatic music playing]

-[Will] Okay. So...
-[Dave] That's crazy.

I've been watching this
on, uh, YouTube

and it's the coolest,
coolest stuff.

-They do this
-[Dave] Uh-huh.

[Will] where they go
do some crazy,

crazy off-roading trail

You don't sleep.

If you brake,

you have to wear
a pink helmet.

If you're winching,
if you get stuck,

-but it's 24 hours.
-[Dave] Good.

[Kevin] This style of finish

is starting
to get really big.

Like, it's like, markers.

-It's like a faux... Yeah.
-Yeah.

So this gentleman,
he's come out of Germany.

He's got the craziest,
coolest, unique way

of basically artistically

drawing out these cars.

-[Kevin] And it looks like
it's like...
-[Will] Cartoon.

-yeah, you're taking like...
-[Dave] Yeah.

an actual thing
and you're turning it
into a cartoon.

-[Will] Yes.
-[Dave] Yeah.

[Kevin] It's actually
really cool looking.

-Oh, it's so cool.
-Looks sketchy to me.

I just think it's fun. It's--

[laughs]

-[Kevin] And you're--
-[Will] I just love it
because, look,

I mean,
obviously gets used...

-[Dave] Yeah.
-[Will] but it looks like
a million bucks and...

-[Dave] I think it's rad.
-[Will] they perform.

Dude, look at the wheels
and stuff

with all the marker on it,
that's so cool.

[Will] Uh-huh.
And even do the wheels. Yeah.

[Kevin] That's crazy.

He takes big old thick

sharpie paint markers

and just goes to town

and basically creates
a cartoon car

in real life,

highlights all the shapes
and angles

and even dents of the vehicle

and it's very unique
and it's really awesome.

-Like, the dent.
-Even the wheels.

Yeah.
They just paint it around it.

They just amplify it
and make it look like
it was there on purpose.

-[Will] Uh-huh.
-[Dave] Yeah.

[Will] Maybe we can get
one of our clients

to wanna get one of these.

-Okay. Maybe not.
-[laughter]

Cool thing about SEMA,

everybody's creativity
comes together here

and it's just amazing to see.

[Kevin] Clark, is this
the one from the movie?

Look at the hubcaps.

[upbeat music playing]

-Who owns this?
-[Will] Yeah, that's cool.
That's cool.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin]
So they got the king on 'em.

[Dave] It's the big emblem
on the rear panel too.

[Kevin] Oh, that's awesome.

-What is this?
-[Will] It's gas cap.

[Kevin] In the hood?

[Will] Yeah, in the hood.

Open it.

[Kevin] No, I can't.

I want to but I can't.

There's even
the Griswold mobile,

whatever that wagon's called.

I mean honestly,
there's two of them here.

[Kevin] This is awesome.

Look, they got
the luggage on here.

[Dave]
Hey, where's Aunt Bethany?

[Kevin] That's hilarious.

-And the leash is back here.
-[Dave] The leash.

Uh-huh. That's funny.

[laughing]

-[Will] This is cool.
-[Dave] This is really nice.

[Will] Look at the theme
going on there.

[Kevin] Red velvet.

[Will] Look at the rearview
mirror setup.

[Dave] I know. That's dope.

[Will] That is cool.

Look at the soft lines
on the air ride.

Look how... That's plum.

[Kevin] Well, it looks to me
like there is no air tank.

So that is probably
a spare tank.

-[Will] Into the chassis.
-[Kevin] Yup.

[Dave] And then the front
cowl, they got rid

of all the vents
and just made it smooth.

[Kevin] All this body work
is super crisp.

That's done...
That's an amazing job there.

So cool. Look, they gonna
shaved all of the vents

-out of the [indistinct]
-Oh, yeah.

Wipers are gone.

-[Will] That's cool.
-[Dave] One piece
on the square body

is not very common either.

[Will] Nope.

It's like they did the most

with the stock configuration.

[Dave] Right.

But made it just sharp
and tight.

Look at this gap
on the bed to the...

-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.
-[Will] cab.

[Kevin] You know what else
is like the ribs,

they've taken the ribs
down in the cab,

I bet, because usually
they're closer to the top.

[Dave] Yeah, yeah,
yeah, yeah, yup, yup.

[Kevin] Like you can see 'em

but they're still there
but they're...

[Will] Down in there.

[Kevin] Way down.

-[Dave] I just like this.
-[Will] Cool.

[Kevin] I agree.
The colors are awesome.

I like how they left
the bumper actually.

I mean I don't mind 'em shaved

but it's just cool
that he didn't try and...

-[Kevin] Mmm-hmm.
-[Dave] make it too smooth.

It still looks like a truck.

[upbeat music playing]

[Dave] Wow.

-[Kevin] Dude.
-[Will] Look at that.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] So you know
the crazy thing

about these trucks, right?

They no longer make
a standard cab short bed.

So how they do it is
they have to buy a long bed

and they'll either swap
the chassis out

and then that's a bed
off a four-door.

[Dave] Oh.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] That's why
it kind of really looks

-stumpy back there...
-[Dave] Stumpy, right.

[Kevin]
because it's a four-door...

[Dave] And then they chop
the chassis down?

[Kevin] Well, yeah,
or they build a new one.

I'm sure
this is on a new chassis.

[Dave] I'm sure.

The other thing that actually
makes this look

much shorter too
is the oversized wheels.

These are like 28s, I think.

-[Kevin] Yeah. They're huge.
-[Dave] They might be 30.

[Kevin] It's not 30s.
They're doing huge.

Look at these huge
quick latches,

look how cool they look.

Like if you would've had
a little tiny one in there.

[Dave] Right.

[Will] But they just look
proportionate.

It looks so cool.

Yeah, this is a cool truck.

[Will] What's the color, Dave?

-[Kevin] Tangelo.
-[Dave] Uh...

[Kevin] Sunset.

Nah, it's got a much
bigger flake.

I mean it could be,
uh, it's orange.

[Kevin] It's orange.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] What is that, Dave?

[Will] I wanna say
it's a ruffian

but I'm not absolutely sure.

I believe they were a kit car
some years ago.

But you can see
that it's based on a Corvette,

the whole dash.

[Dave] Top is down.

It's Corvette windshield
just laid way down, huh?

-C7 front engine.
-[Will] Pretty wild.

[Dave] It's not...
It's not rare.

I can see that those vents
back there are blocked off,

so they're not functional.

There's no way
you can cool the car.

-[Will] It's cool.
-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.

-[Will] Pretty wild.
-[Dave] Yeah, it's cool.

It's really kind of
an interesting take

on utilizing the stock
chassis windshield.

You start utilizing
some of that stuff but...

-It's just wild, huh.
-By the time it's all done,

it's just super exotic.

-[Will] Yeah.
-It is super exotic.

And it's reliable
because it actually has a VIN,

it has all the factory stuff.
I mean, that--

You're not trying to create
the car from ground up.

I think that
that's really tough

'cause you have a cool design,

you're constrained
within that wheelbase.

[Dave] Right.

So it definitely
has its challenges to use

said parts, not these parts

and keep it all kind of
together or not together.

Right. I like that.

It's interesting.

So how many years
or how much time

have you dreamt of having...

Of building one like this?

Yeah.

I am such a sucker
for off-road vehicles.

I think the reason why

is because all of the
mechanics are visible.

[Dave] Put the axle
far forward on this.

[Will] Yeah.

[Dave] Not sure about that
trailing arm angle.

[Kevin]
I dig the crap out of this.

But I would have a different
engine in it.

-[Will] Yes.
-[Dave] Really?

[Kevin] Yeah. I'm not a...
You know...

You know me and I'm
just gonna be honest.

Well, I think it's all right.

I'm not a Volkswagen guy.

I don't think
there's enough power there.

That's where you kind of
gotta differentiate,
you know...

-[Dave] Really?
-how much money
you're gonna spend.

You really see the structure
of the vehicle,

the roll cages, the...

I mean everything that goes
along with this vehicle

being able to go fast
in the desert,

fast on the dirt,
not just on the street.

I just love off-road stuff.

Take that off
some sweet jumps, man.

[Will] That little panel--

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] Look at the shifter
for both...

-[Will] That shifter is cool.
-[Kevin] for both
transmissions.

Look at the cable for both.

[Will] That is so bizarre.

[Dave]
I wanna see this thing run.

-[Kevin] Is this yours?
-[Dave] Is this yours?

-[man] Yeah.
-[Dave] Sick.

[Will] It's awesome.

[Kevin] So is it fully
operational?

Is everything working?

[man] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[Will]
So what's the intention?

Are you racing it?

Just for fun?
It's just a fun car.

[man] We're not trying
to be the fastest, I mean,

there's so many kids
that are already doing that.

[Will] No, just the cool
factor is--

[Kevin] Right here.

But you're expecting
a thousand horsepower

-out of each engine.
-Yeah, yeah, yeah, 185.

Wow. Easy. Easy.

[Kevin] Sick concept.
Really cool.

[Dave] That's super cool.

[Will]
Well, we'll be by for a ride.

[man] You can't go to sleep
until you make it.

-[Dave] Right.
-[Kevin] Right, right.

-[man] There you go.
-[Will] That sounds familiar.

[Kevin] That's awesome.

Great talking to you, man.

Have a good show.

Yeah. Looks like it.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] So the crazy thing,
obviously back in the day.

Mmm-hmm.

You used to come to the show

and you used to see
these cars that were...

They looked like
they were all carbon

-and back a while ago...
-[Dave] Looked like they were.

they didn't have
the technology was like

a hydro dip situation

or it was a wrap
or something like this.

Nowadays,
they really are all carbon.

Yeah, exactly.

'Cause the technology just,

I mean you can make it
like that.

Exactly.

-[Will] Wow. That's wild.
-[Dave] That looks neat.

[Kevin] I wonder what
the weight difference is

between one outfitted like
this versus a factory one.

And the thing is,
is there's a lot to it.

I mean, if you're going
for shiny looky carbon,

you know there's a lot
of weight in the clear.

-[Dave] Mmm-hmm.
-[Will] If you're really going

for lightweight carbon,
you're gonna find

-more of the flat.
-[Dave]
Just keep it all matte.

-[Will] You're gonna...
-Because they're using
as little resin

as possible to keep it light.

Yeah, yeah, 'cause--

The resin is the weight.

Mmm-hmm.

Cool thing about SEMA,

I mean it's a kind of
a global event.

So you'll get vehicles
from around the globe

of every year, make, model,

and of every kind of design
style also.

[upbeat music playing]

I am here today to ink a deal.

-Okay.
-All right.

I love the car.

The one and only Corvette Mike

is the proud owner
of number nine CF1.

[man] Caviar.

It's a pretty color.

All CF1s come unique
and in the sense

that we will not do
any two alike.

So I think I've got something
really right up

the Corvette Mike's alley
that he's gonna love.

Out of the paint booth
through polishing

and straight over to assembly,

we're gonna go ahead and put
this body on the chassis.

[Austyn] There we go.

[man] Go ahead and come down.

Keep coming.

Okay. Hold that right there.

[man 1] Everything's lined up.

[man 2]
Yeah, we're in the right spot.

Okay. Get bolt in it.

[whirring]

Hey, we're good.

Yeah.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] We put a few
of these CF1s together.

And I tell you what,

each one of these
has a unique touch.

[Kevin] I love this color.

This is something
a little different.

It's not black,
so I really like it.

[Austyn] I mean
it's definitely gonna look
great in the sunlight.

Lights in here
don't do it justice.

Once the doors go on,

we can wrap up
the rest of the assembly.

Get the upholstery in it.

And she'll be gone.

[man] Closes and shucks,

cap's decent.

Hey, we're there.

[Austyn] Yeah.

[Dave] I don't really know
what Corvette Mike's

gonna call this
particular CF1,

but I know
what I'm gonna call it,

"Finished."

This car came together
beautifully.

But before
we ship it out to Mike,

we gotta make
sure it's cherry.

[Kyle] Fresh build.

I guess we get to shake
this one down, right?

So that means
we gotta go have some fun.

[Kyle] Make sure it doesn't
squeak, creak, rattle.

-[Kenny] Yup. Let's do it.
-[Kyle] Cool.

[Kyle] Well, you're driving.

I... that's... It's... Yeah.

[car engine revving]

[Kenny] Let's do it.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kyle] Feels pretty good?

I think
it's doing really good.

[Kyle] It felt like it pulled
strong, stopped straight.

[Kenny] Yeah, and when I get
on it, it's staying straight.

-[Kyle] Cool.
-[Kenny] Feels tight.

[Kyle] I like that, man.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kyle]
I don't hear anything either.

-[Kenny] No.
-[Kyle] No squeaks, creaks.

[Kenny] It's doing good.

[Kyle] I mean,
even when we drive over

one of these manhole covers,
it just soaks it up.

[Kenny] Yup.

So what do you think
of this color?

[Kyle] It's different.
I like it.

[Kenny] I really like it.

[Kyle] I think it goes well
with the interior color,

but once you pull it out
into this natural light, it--

[Kenny] Yeah, it's sweet.

Tell you what, man,
they look good

-and they sure do drive good.
-[Kenny] Yeah.

Number nine CF1
has come out beautiful.

I think this is gonna be
a combination

that Corvette Mike
is absolutely gonna love.

[Kyle] You wanna pop the hood
real quick

and we'll take another look

before you go back out?

Yeah.

[Kyle] Car steering lines
all look dry.

It was good.
Our operating temp was at 180.

Fuel lines are all good.

Everything's all good, man.

Everything feels tight,

brakes well,

let go of everything.

It doesn't pull anywhere.

This car's just going
perfect.

Everything's responding well,
throttle, brakes.

I think this car is ready.

I was expecting to have
a little tweak or something,

but I'm not feeling anything.

[Kyle] I think that's one
of the coolest things

about putting a chassis
under a custom car like this

that has all the modern
technology in it,

is that it truly does
drive like a new car.

[Kenny] Oh, absolutely.

And it feels great.

[Kyle] Yeah,
all our vitals are good.

With the car now
all wrapped up

and heading to Corvette Mike,

I'm sure this is
gonna be positively

one of his very favorite cars
of his collection.

[laughs]
