09x12 - Super Charged and Super Secret

Post by bunniefuu »

That trucker come here
so fast, he blew a hole
in the [bleep] damn roof?

[Justin Monk] I don't know
I think Dave lost a bet.

Doesn't know if it's
a Challenger or a Super Bee.

[Dave] We had this '57 Nomad
in, but there was one
big thing that was lacking.

Just wanna keep my job.

I don't wanna blow it up.

[Kevin] Why not put
a supercharger
on your Nomad wagon?

-Dave! Dave.
-What?

-I'm not trying to make
a big mess in the shop.
-I'm just getting ahead...

Well, I gotta go setup
for a show.

Bye, Felicias.

Bye, Felicias.

[Dave] When I look
at a blank canvas,
I see endless possibilities.

As the ideas come to mind,
the lines start to fall
into place.

And before you know it,
we have a bitchin' ride.

A bitchin' ride
has intense color...

-[man 1 laughing]
-[man 2] This is gorgeous.

...performance...

[man 4] It's fantastic.

...stance, wheels, sound.

There's one thing that makes
our cars stand out,

ours are bitchin' rides.

ours are bitchin' rides.

-[man 5] Well, it never
gets old.
-[man 6 laughing]

[cars honking]

[machine whirring]

[metal clanking]

-[Kevin] Hi, Roy.
-[Roy] Hi, Kev.

-How you doing?
-[Kevin] How's it going?

-[Roy] Good.
-[Kevin] Looks like you got
a great start

to this whole project.

Yeah, it's... it's there.

Few years ago, we had this
'57 Nomad in.

And we took it from pretty
basic to pretty bitchin'

[man 7] Ta-da!

But there was one big thing
that was lacking,

and now, today, we're gonna
change that.

[Kevin] When the engine
came in it had a super old
accessory drive on it.

They don't really service
that anymore,

it's not optimum, it's not
ideal for us to keep working
on that old accessory drive.

it's not optimum, it's not
ideal for us to keep working
on that old accessory drive.

We're gonna install
a new accessory drive,
but that's only the beginning.

We need something to drive
the blower too.

-[Kevin] Yeah, well,
I'm getting to that.
-Oh!

One step at a time.
Jeez Louise!

We ordered a blower,
we painted it to match
the engine.

It's gonna look beautiful,
and you're putting it
together.

And then we got, what,
a couple more hurdles
we gotta get through?

[Roy] So we gotta do
the upper radiator hose,

-transmission line's
gotta be changed.
-[Kevin] Okay.

We have to plumb
a heat exchanger up front

-[Roy] Right.
-[Kevin] And a pump.

And then we're probably
gonna have to change
the intake too, correct?

And then we're probably
gonna have to change
the intake too, correct?

[Roy] Yeah, we gotta see
what's going on once we get it
all mounted up.

[Kevin] What year were you
born, Roy?

[Roy] Uh, '59.

'59, so when... So when
this car came out,
you were negative 2.

[chuckles] Yeah.

-Hmm, yeah.
-That's interesting.

-That's great to think about.
-[Roy] My dad
had one of these.

-Did he, really? '57?
-Yeah, yeah.

-A Nomad or--
-Yeah, yeah.

So he was rich then.
Nomads were for rich people,
I believe.

-This is like the top
of the line package.
-[Roy] Well, we weren't rich.

[Kevin] Where did you
grow up again?

-Connecticut.
-Connecticut. Isn't, like,
the Hamptons by Connecticut?

-Close.
-Did you guys go to
the P. Diddy all White Party?

-Close.
-Did you guys go to
the P. Diddy all White Party?

-[Kevin chuckles]
-No, no, no, no.

No, we didn't do that.

What we're doing right now
is we're getting this blower

ready to mate it to
the intake manifold.

Accessorize all the pieces
that go on it.

And then we're gonna
put it in the car.

Reason why we're putting
a little grease on it,

Reason why we're putting
a little grease on it,

we're putting the manifold
to the blower,

and I don't want
the outer ring to fall out.

This one here, as liquid cools
as the heat exchanges it goes
in front of the radiator.

It has a pump, that pumps
the fluid around back
and forth.

To keep the air charged
so that goes into the engine
to cool it.

A big mistake guys make
when using multiple bolts
is tightening something here,

A big mistake guys make
when using multiple bolts
is tightening something here,

and they're gonna start
something over here, and it's
off a little bit,

and end up, uh,
stripping threads.

We don't tighten anything
until every single one of them
is in.

That's what it is. [sighs]

Roy started this project
and was doing a great job,

but we need him over
in the body shop. So, Justin's
gonna take over.

[Dave] He's on his way down...

Initially, Roy was working
on this, and now they've
got me working.

Initially, Roy was working
on this, and now they've
got me working.

And, I... I've got some
detailed instructions
I'm gonna go through.

I'm gonna torque everything
to spec, do it exactly how
the instructions call out.

See if it goes a little
smoother this time.

[indistinct conversations]

Doing all the reassembly bits.
Putting all the sensors
back in it.

Got the surfaces prepped
in the car.

Got the surfaces prepped
in the car.

I'm gonna set it in there,
and get it...
put in permanently.

Justin's in charge of putting
the fuel rails and the gaskets
in place,

and then next
is the super charger.

Pretty straight forward
as long as we keep the gaskets
from falling.

Everything stays lined up,
this should be able to drop
the intake manifold bolts in.

Start 'em by hand and then
begin torque sequence.

Start 'em by hand and then
begin torque sequence.

[beeping]

Three, one, go.
I got the front.

Okay.

[Kip] I know we need a good
place to hold this thing.

[mumbling]

Think we're good,
and we're good.

-[Kip] Yeah...
-[Justin] Yeah, all right.
Thank you.

-[Kip] Woo!
-[Justin] High two...

[Justin chuckles]

-Around inch and a half.
-It's got two inches.

Super charger's all in place.
Now we need to get some air
to the inner cooler.

Anywhere those sparks
are gonna go make sure
that it's all protected.

We really need this
whole width for that thing
to sit up in here,

because it's measured, like,
right to the gills.

because it's measured, like,
right to the gills.

And I have the big cutter
in the back room.

-Grab a fresh disc,
-Yeah.

-And, go to town.
-Get to cutting.

Okay. Going in.

-[Max] Pretty good.
-[Will] Okay, cool.

-Cool beans.
-Yeah.

[Will] You can imagine,
even to fight this one we're
gonna need a half inch.

Yeah.

The intake of this
super charger is so close
to the core spur,

we're gonna have to come up
with something really
interesting.

We need to get some tin foil
and just see what

-kind of rail we have.
-[Max] Yeah.

-kind of rail we have.
-[Max] Yeah.

Where does this thing land?

-Tight space.
-[Will] Yeah.

Super tight.

It's way up here.

-[Max] Yeah.
-[Will] So I think we're good.

'Cause we're gonna do
everything behind there.

This is gonna be a little bit
tight but I should have
enough room to create

a new intake tube.

-Tight space.
-[Max] Yeah. Super tight.

Our biggest goal here is
to keep

-probably a half inch
right here.
-[Max] Right there.

-probably a half inch
right here.
-[Max] Right there.

It'll still be a real bear
to finagle this into place.

-Right, but. It is what it is.
-But, yeah.

The idea of this
is pretty simple.

But the execution of it
is gonna be a little more
tricky,

because of the tight
constraints.

because of the tight
constraints.

We'll roll the edges and then
we'll make a panel
that will fit this.

Yeah.

This is just so we can get
away from the hard edges,

kind of have that
smooth reveal.

So we got our two pieces
made up, just doing a little
test fit.

So we got our two pieces
made up, just doing a little
test fit.

So, yeah, everything
will jive.

And now we're gonna connect
these two pieces to the intake
tube.

-Yeah, it's cool.
-[Max] Yeah.

Take another piece
of sheet metal and connect
the two and see how she fits.

Right on.

I'll be able to weld
the two together and it'll be
one piece

pulling all the air in.

pulling all the air in.

So it's time to see if this
is actually gonna work.

I have a really good feeling
about it. Well, you know,
because we did it.

And that's up against
the bushing, only thing that
I see is,

-it needs to get tweaked
that way.
-Right.

Well, I was only
slightly wrong.
The angle's a little off.

Improved contact.
We're not here.

-No.
-We're not hitting there.

-Not really.
-It'll mount. I can feel it

-just fine.
-[Max] Yep.

So should we, just, like,
throw it on the ground
and stomp on it?

-If one of us grabs it and...
-But.

Just like everything
around here, it's not like
the first time

you're just gonna get this
to fit.

So, we're gonna make
some adjustments,
we'll be right back at it.

I kind of think we could
probably just bend it.

-Right.
-[Will] It works so...

And it goes in,
which is the greatest thing.

Moment of truth, take two.

There you go. Perfect.

Nailed it. A couple of little
tweaks was all it took.

All right we got it
all fit up. It's working good.

Just gonna throw a couple
more tacks, hammer it out.

Get her smooth and go
from there.

Work on getting the upper
radiator hose back in,

then the intake.

Finally got chrome back,
now the car can go back
together,

Let's see if
the air filter fits.

Last piece of the puzzle.

Everything's good so far.

I'll be excited when it makes
a full dyno pull and then, uh,
comes out unscathed.

I'll be excited when it makes
a full dyno pull and then, uh,
comes out unscathed.

Looks like it's going down
soon,

'cause it's gotta suck so much
of it up through.

Before we can even think
about putting this car
on the dyno,

we gotta finish filling up
all of the fluids.

Where's that big syringe
that we have?

Whatever, dude.

There's a pump in
the inner fender, that goes
all the way through

the inner cooler built in to
the bottom of
the super charger.

Comes back out of that,
and then into
that heat exchanger

Comes back out of that,
and then into
that heat exchanger

down there below the radiator.

So it's a big closed loop
system.

So, let's suck that down.

[Justin] Is it going?

It ain't that good, man.

[blows air]

We're gonna need an actual,
like, vacuum pump to pull it
through.

But the real question is
is how will the coolant
get installed.

Chay, you have a vacuum pump
here?

Like a hand one?

[Chay speaking]

We don't. Nobody's got
a vacuum hand pump.

[Kip] Hmm.

Are you even sucking?

-You've done nothing.
I just think...
-[Justin chuckles]

[Justin] Yeah, we need
something.

Yeah, we need more,
we need more.

Getting the coolant in this
newly super charged, Nomad

is starting to prove
kind of difficult.

Oh, shop vacuum.

Once the coolant is filled up
in the system, we can now
get it on the dyno.

This will suck better
than I can, you know.

This will suck better
than I can, you know.

We don't fire it up dry,
because it'll hurt the pump

itself 'cause it's
running dry and then also
it simply won't suck.

-You think this is gonna work?
-[Kip] Do I think? No, bro.

-Is there doubters right now?
-[Kip] Are you doubting?

I don't know, man.
I'm no doctor.

-All right, ready?
-Do it. Let's see.

[vacuum loses power]

[Kip] Oh, she doesn't have
power.

Oh, no. [chuckles]

-Dude, yeah. And she's
-[Justin chuckles]

-Dude, yeah. And she's
-[Justin chuckles]

I think we literally
kicked the breaker
in the wall.

[vacuum whirring]

-[Justin] There we go.
-It's sucking, right?

But, now there's nothing
there but we could
probably fire the pump on it.

Now, if we can just get
the fluid to the pump,
the pump should start working.

Okay. Ready.

Do you hear it running at all?

It's sucking?

[pump whirring]

[bubbling]

There she goes.

There she goes.

Little ethylene glycol
never hurt no one.

Just so you know, that's not
my favorite flavor.

We'll know the pump is working
if the fluid level goes down.

Nope.

I just think if we get...
if we had a way to get
this hose up higher...

-Above it.
-Above it, you know...

Gravity feed it by way.
It's... It's got going
for sure.

'Cause that vacuum's having
problems, obviously,
sucking it through.

I'm gonna try to gravity
feed this.

Now that we have a funnel
higher than the pump,
we should be able to get

coolant to the pump and then
switch the key on to see
if it'll actually start

coolant to the pump and then
switch the key on to see
if it'll actually start

pulling on its own.

Kenny, will you turn
the key on in this car?

That's stupid.

Something is not working.

Before we throw in the towel
and go back
to the drawing board,

Before we throw in the towel
and go back
to the drawing board,

I think we have one more idea.

This is a arsenal tool
that basically opens
everything up,

so you can run the water
through the whole system.

[pressure releasing]

[Justin] Okay, pump,
I don't know, see if
you can feel anything moving.

If this doesn't work,
we're gonna have to probably
pull the whole thing apart

If this doesn't work,
we're gonna have to probably
pull the whole thing apart

and start over.

[liquid draining]

-You can hear it now.
-Yeah.

[Jason] Does it feel like
it's doing more now?

Yeah, it's moving solid fluid
through here now.

Yeah, that seems full.

Mission accomplished.
I wasn't worried, not even
for a half second.

-There you go.
-Thanks, buddy.

The antifreeze pump
was working perfectly,

but we have a couple
of other things still to do
under the hood of this Nomad.

but we have a couple
of other things still to do
under the hood of this Nomad.

But before we finish that up,
I gotta special project
showing up.

What's happening, world?

Today, we're getting in
a car for a very
special person.

Can't tell you who that is,
but you'll find out soon
enough.

[Dave] I don't know why
Kev-dog's being so cryptic.

The client is definitely
somebody that everybody knows.

We're looking at
a '70 Challenger RT Dodge.

We're looking at
a '70 Challenger RT Dodge.

Dave is always giving me crap
about the cars I find.

There's too much rust,
they're not pristine,

they're not numbers matching.

[scoffs] Look who's
talking now.

I didn't get this car.

I don't know.
I think Dave lost the bet.

That trucker came here
so fast, you blew a whole
in the [bleep] damn roof?

[Kevin] You bought it.

Feels really nice to be
off the hook this time.

Now Dave can take the heat
a little bit.

Let it go, dog.

[Monk] Ooh!

[Monk] Ooh!

Will I like? I will like.
Do I like it now?
Probably not.

I'm not sure what everybody's
complaining about.

I mean, you know,
they all look ugly
before they get pretty.

[chuckles] I mean,
this one's a little extra
ugly though.

The part that I bought
actually looks fine.

Part they threw away,
well, I don't know. Whatever.

Once again, I'm being, uh,
judged and ridiculed

for the quality of car
that I purchased today,
and...

for the quality of car
that I purchased today,
and...

to be honest with ya,
I just didn't wanna waste
any money or any time.

I any more than I needed.
I got the key.

Hey, there's a glove box
in here.

[Kevin] Hey, Dave.
This one comes with a beer,
bro.

Sick, Peroni.

Hey, it's got a whole
in the bottom of the car,

you guys should be
a lot more careful out there.

I understand that Dave may be
regretting his decision
to buy this car.

-Dave, Dave.
-What?

-I'm not trying to make
a big mess in the shop.
-I'm just getting ahead...

It's rusty, there's
a big hole in the roof.

It's rusty, there's
a big hole in the roof.

I don't even think
all the parts are here.

But, yeah. We don't...
We don't have to talk
about it anymore. It's fine.

We... We pay a stripper
to strip this stuff...
[chuckling]

And we definitely don't need
to make it any worse.

It has enough problems
on its own.

-Who's screwdriver is that?
-Uh, it's David's.

With this customer having
the same first name as me,

I'm feeling some kind of
deeper connection.

So I wanna make sure
that this car is off
the chain.

[sighs] It looks like I got
all my work cut out for me.

It's a lift off. That's how
they do it.

No more sunroof.

Okay. This car has been sliced
and hacked up already.

The red panel under there.

I think it's a good car.
These cars are all pretty much
tore up like this.

-But at least Dave said it
this time. I didn't.
-[giggles]

I'm thinking. I'm gonna put
somebody else in charge

of finding the cars
from now on. [laughing]
I'm going back to work.

[Frank] There it is.
Let's start.

Even with a car that looks
this rough on the outside,

we really don't know
what we have until we get
this thing stripped.

And really take a closer look.

Think we're having
a little bit of an
identity crisis

with our Challenger here.
Doesn't know if it's
a Challenger or a Super Bee.

It's supposed to be
a Challenger.

Looks like I'm pulling out
a half a bee hive here.

Got a whole wasp family too,
hanging out.

It looks to me like it sat out
in the field for a pretty good
amount of time.

[Kevin] We've got everything
removed from the car
that we need to.

We're sending the old part in
to storage and we're sending
the body off to to dip.

Fingers crossed.

We got a car going to strip
and then we can start
from scratch,

I mean we got a lot of junky
stuff here, so.

I mean we got a lot of junky
stuff here, so.

It's nice to just get rid
of the junk.

One trailer filled, one more
to go. There's a lot more
parts than I thought.

[Dave] Right now, we're gonna
concentrate on getting all
of the parts

to send them up to Oregon.
To our good friend to dip it
and put it in zinc.

And in the meantime,
I'm gonna jump on the phone

with my friends over
at the Roadster Shop,

and talk to them about
a fast track chassis.

Hey, Jeremy.
What's going on, man?

What's up, dude?

Hopefully, you're gonna give
some good news on this car.
[chuckles]

Oh, yeah. Yeah, we got lots
of good news.

Oh, yeah. Yeah, we got lots
of good news.

You know we got, like,
it's all done
in the virtual world.

-It's all done
in a virtual world.
-[all laughing]

-Why do you sound like Will?
[laughing]
-Right?

Well, this is just been
a little bit different,
you know.

Normally, we'll just order
a chassis from you,
but with this one we really,

I think working
with you guys to get
that stance down just right.

Uh, you know, getting
the 345s fit on the back,

We've sent you the scan,
I think you've got that now.
Is that correct?

We got it. I got this thing
all modeled up.

-[Dave] Oh, let's see it.
-And, ready for you guys
to check out.

-[Kevin] Nice.
-[Dave] That's what I'm
talking about on the stance.

That's awesome and you guys
just did a 'Cuda like this,
didn't you?

That's awesome and you guys
just did a 'Cuda like this,
didn't you?

[Jeremy] Yeah so, we did
a 'Cuda just like this,

which allowed us to, kind of,
play around

-with some new stuff, um...
-[Kevin] Nice.

And we put a core support in,
laser cut the core support.

-[Kevin] Nice.
-Tagged it all out. Put a C&R
radiator,

and miniature condenser,
and did the whole floor,
so able to laser cut all...

-[Dave] Oh, that's awesome.
-[Jeremy] ...the guides
and everything

for the Pullmax, so...

Here, I'll get you
to the floor.

We went ahead and threw floors
and everything in here.

-[Kevin] Nice.
-Hopefully this would,
get you guys,

uh, like, a head start.

It's gonna lend itself
pretty good, 'cause it looks
like

the tubs are very large
in the car, which is perfect

the tubs are very large
in the car, which is perfect

and being that this is a...
the client is shorter,
we'll be able to push...

kind of, push the seats up
and still have room
in the back.

-If we decide to put a seat
there or not.
-[Dave] Right.

The floors, so what we did
on this, dropped the floors
down in that four-inch rail.

So, you... you've got
the freedom to move
those seats up, down.

I mean, you can get 'em
low enough. We've done
some cars like this before.

You can get low enough where
a 6'2" dude is hammered down
in there.

-[Dave] Right.
-Or, you know, you can get

the Jeremy Gerber
booster seats.

[both laughing]

[both laughing]

-Booster seats. Good to know.
-Nice.

That's cool and so we're 345s
on the back

What are... What are you able
to put upfront? We're doing
a 19 in the front

and 20 in the rear.
That's kind of what
I was thinking.

Yeah, 19, 20.

-You'd comfortably get a
-[Dave] Okay.

If you wanna push it
and you're gonna play
with the wheel lips

and stuff, I mean, 275.
You get up to a 295,
you just gotta be

right on the money with it.

So now that it's built
in virtual world

when is it gonna be built
in the real world.

Yeah, I guess that
all depends, when do you guys
need it.

Yeah, I guess that
all depends, when do you guys
need it.

-Yesterday.
-[Jeremy] Yesterday?

That's like a normal...
That's the normal... That's
the normal answer, right?

-[laughing]
-How long of a drive is it
to Chicago?

-Right?
-Yeah, took me about two days.
We made that drive

-before straight through.
-[both] Yeah, right.

-So take the two days off,
so that gives us...
-Carry my one.

-...what we are on,
negative time?
-[laughs] Exactly.

You guys are always busy,
but, uh,

-as soon as you can.
-Yeah, we'll... we'll harp it
out for you guys, for sure.

And we're super excited
that you're able to, kind of,
get a jump start on this car.

I'm super excited
to collaborate with you guys
on this build,

so I'm... I'm pumped.
I can't wait to see the car.

so I'm... I'm pumped.
I can't wait to see the car.

Dude, I... I can't wait
now that it's gonna come
to you guys,

kind of like a match box
car chassis.

-[Kevin] Right?
-So you just, body right
over the top,

-and bam you're ready to roll.
-[Kevin] I love it.

-[Dave] So pumped.
-[Jeremy] I can't wait to see
what you guys

are gonna do with it.
The problem is when you guys
do it,

nobody cares what's
underneath it.

-'Cause the damn car
is so cool, you know.
-[both laughing]

Like it's okay if somebody
builds a car that kind of
sucks,

-but it fits right, you know.
-[both laughing]

-Well, we'll get some--
-[Jeremy] Chassis gets all
the attention.

[laughs] Well, we'll get some,
uh, we'll get some good
pictures for you. How's that?

-[Dave laughing]
-[Kevin] Nice. Those get in.

This is gonna be perfect.
This is like, uh. It's kind of
like a...

This is gonna be perfect.
This is like, uh. It's kind of
like a...

-Collaboration.
-It's like we're dating.

-No that's just weird.
[laughs]
-Kind of.

Yeah, I guess we could look
at it that way.

-[laughing]
-Well, we... I guess that's
one way to look at it.

[all laughing]

-[Dave] Awesome, well...
-[Kevin] Well, again,
I know your you're busy.

-Yeah.
-So, we'll let you get back
to your day, and, like,

and just let us know
when it's... when it's ready
to be picked up

or shipped or whatever
you wanna do and we'll go
from there.

-[Jeremy] For sure.
Thanks, guys.
-[Dave laughs]

[Kevin] The package
that just arrived
is super rare,

and not only is it super rare,
they're almost impossible
to get.

And, it's got a lot
of horsepower in this box.
So excited.

-[Kevin] Hi, Karl.
-Kev-dog, how are you doing?

-Good, buddy.
-Karl... Karl brought us
something really cool.

I'm super pumped.

A great friend of ours,
Karl down at API, in Sandy,

we've done a lot of work
in the past with him.

He's got a little speed shop
and a diner shop that we've
used many times.

He happens to have something
really special

that he's bringing down
at the shop for this project.

Tilt forward just
a little bit. There you go.

Tilt forward just
a little bit. There you go.

Down. Come on in.

That's good.

-Wow!
-Okay, enough with
the mystery.

It's one of the 100
Hellephants released by Dodge.

This engine will put out

-No,
-1000 horsepower.

foot-pounds of torque.

-Uh.
-Real close.

Don't bother opening.
It's down 50 horse...

-foot-pounds already.
-[drill whirring]

-I'll take it back. Darn it.
-[both laughing]

-[Kevin] Ready?
-Yeah.

-[Dave] Okay?
-[Kevin grunts] Okay.

-[whooping]
-These engines have become
so efficient.

I mean, you probably get close
to 20 miles a gallon out of
this engine.

-If you just drive it.
-[Dave] If not better.

-[Kevin] You know?
And that's just insane.
-[Dave] Yeah.

[Karl] You could configure
an engine like this
with active fuel management,

BOD, MVS, whatever you wanna
call it, you know,

and go into
four-cylinder mode.

And you could do a flex seal
version at the same time
with the supercharger.

And you could do a flex seal
version at the same time
with the supercharger.

-And have an economy car,
right?
-Right.

And then, well, just by
pushing the gas pedal you go
to a full-blown...

-[Kevin] 1000 horsepower
-[Karl] Super horsepower

[Kevin] Exactly.
That's awesome.
That's so crazy.

-It is really impressive
the fact that they put--
-Well, God bless, the USA

to horsepower wars.

-Yes.
-God bless, the Dodge
and the Hellephant.

Yeah, we just need to put, uh,
put this in a new home.

kick a*s,

It's everything you ever
wanted in a hammy.

This is a really fun project
to do with the Roadster shop.

Normally we order the chassis,
we'll build the floor,

we'll take care of all
the fabrication, but this time
Josh was like,

"Hey, we can do that."
And as busy as we are
around here,

I don't mind subbing
anything out.

So, you guys remember we sent
a car out to get a
custom chassis

from the Roadster shop,
and it's back.

from the Roadster shop,
and it's back.

I'm super pumped to see it.
They've done some amazing
work on it.

And I'm ready to get
this big engine in this thing,
and make it happen.

This is a [bleep] car.

I'm really excited to...
to build this car 'cause it's
probably gonna be

the ultimate Mopar, even more
ultimate than the Coronet.

Oh, I'm so pumped.
I can't wait to see
the core support.

The Challenger
that we're building,
never really had a chassis,

it had a K-member.
So, it's the same as

to, kind of, the Coronet.
You have to cut the whole
floor out,

and install a new chassis.
And they actually had a whole
package for this car.

and install a new chassis.
And they actually had a whole
package for this car.

And send it out, and it gets
stacked on, and... and it's
supposed to be beautiful.

I know we still have some
rust repair to do,

I mean, there's still
a big hole in the roof.

There's a quarter panels,
etcetera, etcetera, but...

The base of the car,
the foundation of the car
is complete.

-Good on this side, David?
-[speaking indistinctly]

[Kevin] Turn to the left.

-We good.
-[David] Okay, hold it,
hold it.

[Kevin] Okay.

I don't want this car dented.
It's pristine.

[David] Left.

-Ready?
-We're right on the edge
of Race Ramps.

Okay, go ahead.

[David] We're going towards
the edge.

Gotta turn the wheels,
a little left.

I can't 'cause the nose
is into the trailer bro.

Is that gonna work?

-Huh? Talk to me.
-Uh, it's getting there.

Small wheels are great
for moving something around,

Small wheels are great
for moving something around,

not so great for
anything else.

-Come off the ramp
on this thing.
-We're okay, at the very end.

This '70 Challenger
is definitely upgraded.

Originally all the front
suspension hung off
what they call a K-member.

We removed the K-member
and we did a frame
from front to back,

which also does a couple
of things.

Now we have a place to hang
our front suspension,

and we also have made they car
way more rigid than it ever
thought about being.

So it's gonna handle
incredible. This thing's
gonna be great.

Look at these little,
cute wheels.

Look at these little,
cute wheels.

Tell you what though,
it rolled really nice.

It's got a radiator,
it's got a core support,

it's got a condenser,
it's got a intercooler,

[David] Everything you were
hoping for?

Yeah, you know, I'm pumped.
I wanna put the engine in now.

I'm so stoked.

We still gotta do some
rust repair, which is
a bummer, but,

like I said, it looks like
the inner rockers have been
eliminated.

So, these rocker panels
look good.

So we gotta do quarter panels,
we gotta do a roof.

So if you notice, like,
in the wheel wells, like,
none of that's been welded,

'cause we're gonna have
to put all new quarters on it.

'cause we're gonna have
to put all new quarters on it.

I'm pumped. Well, I gotta go
setup for a show.

Bye, Felicias.

Hey, what's the difference?
Challenger, 'Cuda, Barracuda.

-You have a clue?
-They're all spelled
different.

-Oh, it is the spelling.
-Yeah.

'Cause I have no clue.

Oh, no. Not this debate again.

The difference between
a Challenger, a Cuda,
and Barracuda is the name.

The core car, they're all
the same.

I don't know, where is Frank.
Can I phone a friend?

-[Howard] Yeah.
-Then they call 'em

-[Howard] Yeah.
-Then they call 'em

and I'm sure there's

There's 28, I think.

-Oh, 28.
-Yeah.

Now, what are we dealing with?

We have the old doors,
and they're super clean.

Like, no rust in the bottom
pinch where we usually
find it.

Little bit of damage.
That other side's got some
creases and what have you.

We're gonna put our handles
in there.

Body wise, I don't know
that we're doing a lot
of modifications.

Looking at all
the interior structure,
it all looks clean.

Doesn't look like this thing's
been, you know,

Doesn't look like this thing's
been, you know,

-totaled at one point.
-Yeah.

Doesn't look like any kind
of hidden damage.

We have to take care
of this body, and it needs
a ton of help.

[Howard] This one's nasty.
The other one wasn't awful,
but...

The next step is to just start
replacing panels.

As much work as we need to do
underneath, we might as well.

It's not only the quarters
but it's this rear package
tray, the roof.

And people would argue,
"Well, why don't you just fill
the hole that's been made."

That's another option too,
but cleaner, simpler,
just get a roof again.

That's another option too,
but cleaner, simpler,
just get a roof again.

The stuff's available now
and they're quality pieces.

The other part of it is we can
add our modifications
to the panels,

while they're off, and that
makes it all so much cleaner.

Pretty quickly, it'll feel
like the transformation
into a fresh car has happened.

We're gonna start out
with three different missions.

One, we're gonna take care
of all the big rust repair
areas.

Second, we're gonna make sure
all of the underlining
structure is solid.

And finally, we're gonna
replace all of the old panels

with new ones
that we can modify.

with new ones
that we can modify.

I'm hoping to get freed up
and help you.

-Okay. [chuckles] We'll see.
-Ah, what's so funny.

'Cause, nobody has free time
for anything.

Oh, I know. That is the joke,
isn't it.

Okay. Well, rock on.

-Rock on.
-[Will] I'll catch you soon.

Bye-bye.

[Dave] Once we started really
calculating how much

metal work needed to be done
on this, it seemed like
it was faster

to replace a lot of those
panels with reproductions.

to replace a lot of those
panels with reproductions.

[Howard] This car is
pretty nasty in some spots,
so...

could be a lot of cutting,
a lot of dirty work.

See if I remember how
to do it. It's been a while.

We got some perforation here,
perforation down in the seam,

I don't know,
for what it takes
to drill out the spot welds

and peel this stuff back,

it would be nice to have
all fresh metal on it.

We're first gonna start out
with replacing
the rear quarters.

All done! Let's slap
the other one on top of there.
We'll be done.

All done! Let's slap
the other one on top of there.
We'll be done.

[chuckles]

I wish it was only
that simple.

There's dozens of things
that have to be attended to,

every part you put on
there is connected
to another part.

There's an understructure
right here that I need to keep
intact,

'cause it doesn't come
with the quarter.

Quarter flanges over
and attaches to it,
but there's still a structure

that you don't want
to cut out,

because it kind of
gives you a landing pad
for the new quarter.

It's holding on.

I'm almost there.

Oh, right there.
Right there in that
little flange.

It's like, what...
what's... what's that doing?

It's good to say, like,
'cause it needs to be there,

but also it gives us
that information that we need,

you know, is the new quarter
still fitting in the right
place?

I don't think I've replaced
this many panels

on a car before,
all at one time, so.

I'm not sure, uh,
what's the best way to do it.

We usually buy a lot
of newer parts for these
classic cars,

and not all of them fit
perfectly.

You have to finesse 'em
to make 'em fit perfect.

And that's what we're
doing here.

It's not like they just slip
right on. But you kind of
finagle it,

and it wants to go.

It's not bad. Hopefully,
the other one goes
the same way, and...

it'll look like I did
something.

This first panel looks
awesome.

Hopefully the rest of them
fit just the same.

Basically, we just need
to keep replacing panels
as we go.

There's only one way to start,
you gotta start cutting.

We'll start getting this
caught up to the other side.

Now that I know some
of the understructure,

now... now I'll try to make
some of my cuts a little bit
closer to where,

I know I can get away with.

The internal structure
on this side looks fine.

The other side, not so much.

It is a little nicer,
except for where they
patched that in,

but this is in better shape.

Howard did a fantastic job
replacing these quarter
panels.

But there's still a lot to do.

We're working on
a Dodge Challenger

which was a little rusty
when it got here.

-Dave, Dave.
-What?

I'm not trying to make
a big mess.

It's been stripped, dipped,
new chassis put under it

new floors, and now we are
diggin' into it big time.

They don't call it
a Hellephant for no reason.

You know that's gotta be big.
We gotta make some room
for this bad boy.

We're gonna have to modify
this firewall to fit
this massive engine.

The firewall is in and looks
great. And that's where
we're gonna take it for now.

The name of the game
on this Nomad is installing
some horsepower.

We got the new supercharger
in, we painted it, we made
it look good.

We changed up the accessory
drive. We have everything
installed.

And now, it's time to get
it running.

All right, set her up.

All right, get it up
about 2000.

[Kevin] Dyno time. This is
where the rubber meets
the rollers.

We have to balance power,
and safety.

We wanna make sure
that this engine runs safe
at all times.

Never sees a lean condition.
So we really wanna keep
an eye

on the air meter
at this point.

[Tim] That's second?

[Tim] That's second?

[Kenny] That's third.

What gear are you in?

Massive.

Trying to get our fuels right.

We're still a little lean,
so we're gonna feather
that out a little bit.

And then we'll do
another pull.

So right here looks like
I gotta take away some fuel.

So right here looks like
I gotta take away some fuel.

You wanna drop 10
and then try that?

Yeah, I'm gonna drop 10
across the board from 2000.

It's all about tuning
that sweet spot between
the air and the fuel.

When I say, I10, we're talking
about if it's adding fuel

we need to add fuel
into the map.

It's just feathering out
all those little highs
and lows,

so when we're doing a pull
it's getting equal fuel-air
mixture

all the way through
the whole pull.

We added a supercharger
so we decided

-a bunch more air.
-Yeah.

-a bunch more air.
-Yeah.

-So we need more fuel.
-[Kenny] Yep.

All right, buddy.
Start her up.

Back to 25.

Let me know when you get
to four.

Hey, Tim. I'm in four.

[Kenny] Those numbers are
a lot better.

Yeah, everything is getting
better.

We can start to tell,
that it's starting to make
more and more power,

and we're still safe, so...

I just wanna keep my job.
I don't wanna blow it up.

-[laughing]
-I think you're good
right now, buddy.

The engine tune is starting
to get close to optimal,

The engine tune is starting
to get close to optimal,

but I think we can get just
a little bit more horsepower
out of it.

I'm excited, but my anxiety
is still rough.

-Oh, come on.
-[Tim laughing]

Punch it!

Here a little, there a little.
Pull after pull.

I just need to go here.
Adjust 15 percent.

I just need to go here.
Adjust 15 percent.

Add 15 there, take away 15,
do 10.

We're slowly getting this
newly supercharged engine
right where it needs to be.

[Tim] All right, let it
pull down. Neutral.

And above all, I can't wait
to see how it performs
out on the road.

I heard all this noise
you guys were making
in here. How did it go?

-Uh, pretty well.
-We didn't blow it up.

-No.
-No doubt, right?

Safety was the biggest thing.
I wanna obviously make some
more horsepower,

but I want it to be safe
and reliable,
first and foremost.

but I want it to be safe
and reliable,
first and foremost.

Our biggest pull
that we pulled, was 357.

-We made 320 at the wheels.
-[Kevin] Okay.

And it looks like the torque
is huge. That's gonna feel
really good on the street.

It's not all about
the horsepower

You know, it's usually about
the torque.

That's the stuff that puts you
in the back of your seat.

And then obviously too,
we're at 4500 feet

-above sea level.
-Yeah.

There's so many different
variables. That's pretty good
for an LS1,

-at the wheels.
-[Tim] Yep.

I can't wait to get it
on the roads. Let's unload
this thing.

Let's get it out
in the streets.

I think the customer's gonna
be pumped too, so...

Awesome, I'm stoked.

Good job, guys.

Good job, guys.

-Thank you.
-Hurray!

-So--
-It's a relief. [exclaims]

What a great day in
Salt Lake City, to take this
Nomad out for a drive.

And, more importantly,
we got some extra ponies
under the hood.

I like new power.

Biggest challenge that we had
with this has been,
was it LS1?

This isn't the spring chicken
of engines.

So, it obviously had some
miles on it so we needed
to be careful,

not to put a ton of boost
to it, but driving this car
around,

it makes it feel light.

And this is a pretty
heavy car. This--

[Jason] Oh, very heavy car.

It's fun to drive now.

-Runs better than it did
before.
-Runs way better.

It actually has some pep.

[Jason] And it looks good.

[Kevin] It's such
a classic car. I mean why not
put a supercharger

on your Nomad wagon.
It fit perfect.

on your Nomad wagon.
It fit perfect.

Intercoolers,
all the heat sinks
that we did,

Your guys did a great job.

Getting all the stuff packaged
back in and making it look
timeless.

-[Jason] Yeah.
-[Kevin] 'Cause, I mean,
a lot of people can put

superchargers on cars.

-[Jason] It doesn't look
bulky.
-[Kevin] What you guys did,

and the install,
and the colors that we did
on this,

-it just looks great.
-[Jason] Right.

-It's just a great package
all the way around.
-[Jason] Yeah.

That's nice.
