That's what he told me to do.
- You gotta let somebody know
when you start a [screech] car, dude.
When somebody's got their hand on the sprocket,
and a two inch chain.
Somebody could unplug the neutral safety.
It could be in big gear by accident.
He pops it off, we got one wheel off the ground.
That means it'll take off.
- Can I finish this?
- Yeah. - I'm almost done, fire it up.
- Because if somebody cuts my hand off,
I'll rip the [screech] face off with the other one.
- [Narrator] Adam cranks the car again
to see if Mike's chain is secure.
It looks good.
With all their fingers intact.
Patrick and Mike start welding
on the steel reinforcement bars.
[upbeat rock music]
Then they resort to creative scavenging
and use a beat up shopping cart from the junkyard
for Jesse's swim step.
[tools buzzing]
- You need to make something a little bit more substantial.
If I'm standing up above that prop,
gotta remember who's driving it.
- Jesse's not amused by the shopping cart contraption.
Instead, he welds his own platform
that he knows he can trust to support him.
[tools buzzing and screeching]
[objects clattering]
[tools buzzing]
- Hey, it's a little bit better
than your shopping cart thing.
- It's not bad.
Welds look a little sloppy.
- [Narrator] Adam and Patrick start rigging the handle.
Jesse will use it to control the monster's speed
and steering in the water.
- We're gonna cut all this out,
straight down, straight over.
Box it in and it's actually gonna be recessed
into the trunk of the boat.
- Car. - Car.
- I'm already calling it a boat.
[saw buzzing] [tools humming]
[tool hammering]

so the builders can get a better idea
of how their Miata will become a boat.
- Okay, where am I stuck?
- Keep going. - Right there, that's it.
You're dead.
[soundtrack whooshing]

They got their new drive unit
and the prop shaft ready to spin.

and the task ahead seems daunting.
To keep from drowning, Mike asks for help from above.

I just wanted to say something to the fabrication gods.
We'd like them to come down
and bless our plasma cutters and our tools
and on this incredibly difficult challenge,
I just want to say to these guys,
it's been an honor to battle with you
in the greatest arena of fabrication.
And most of all, just remember:
Pain heals, chicks dig scars,
and glory lasts forever. [group chuckling]
[upbeat percussion music]

Jeremy installs the bilge pumps
and Rob makes the tunnel that will load the prop
with enough water to make it spin.
- Rob's awesome man,
but in his brain, he thinks he's building
a half a million dollar drag boat.
You know, and all we're trying to do
is float a little rice for a while.

of a monster watercraft.

and then I'll do all the other steel stuff for this.

- Jeremy accidentally drills through a gas line.

We're gonna cut the fuel line, the bad section.
We're gonna put a piece of rubber hose on it.
Clamp it up and we'll be good to go.
- A little thing like drilling into that gas line
could have been a fatal mistake.
It doesn't seem like much,
but the more I think about it, we could be done.
- Yeah. It's very dangerous.
You know, we can't,
right now, we can't weld or grind
or anything that might throw a spark.
- That two-part foam gets hotter than hell.
And it expands with the heat and pressure,
with gas fumes.
I mean, it looked really pretty. Big ball of fire.
- I'm not blowing this thing up.
I'll let Jesse blow it up with a Gatling g*n.
I think that's where we're headed.
