[upbeat music]

- [Brett] Hey, Monster Garage fans,

you are about to witness the final battle

between man and machine,

or Jesse at most of Long Beach.

[Jesse laughs]

- [Brett] It's time to terminate Monster Garage style.

Join us now as Jesse and his g*ng of maverick mechanics

rip, grind, and burn,

transforming ordinary street vehicles

into monster machines in the Monster Garage.

The Terminator is back.

To challenge him, Jesse and his build crew

must conceal a stunt motorcycle inside the cab of a pickup,

and then surprise pedestrians with a high speed launch.

The rules:

When built the monster machine must appear to be stock;

the team can spend no more than 3,000 bucks

in cold cash for parts;

Jesse and his crew have seven days and nights.

On the first day they design,

for the next five they build,

and on the seventh day, it's lights, camera, stunts.

[car exploding]

If successful, each team member takes home

a $3,400 set of Mac Tools.

[clock playing music]

And the clock starts now.

[upbeat music]

There's been more than a few hairy moments

around the garage,

but for Mr. James there are no stunt doubles.

[upbeat music]

- Hi! [speaker mumbles]

[speaker chuckles]

- The ultimate stunt vehicle,

basically kinda launch a motorcycle out of the Tundra,

have it revealed, and have this event happen at speed.

- Yeah!

- I mean, it's- - One expl*sive.

That's a terminator.

He plows through things, just terminates things.

[thrilling music]

- As a kid, I started racing motocross

over rocks and logs and things,

and I saw on TV one day a guy on Pepsi commercial

ride over a car, and I thought,

"Hey, I could do that, and get paid for it!"

- [Brett] Monster Garage doesn't have the big bucks

So this is kinda sort of like what he did in such movies

as "Memento", "Point Blank", and "Con Air."

- [Speaker] Eh!

- I almost died three times.

- My role was doubling Arnold Schwarzenegger,

and doing the most crazy stunts that I've ever done.

- [Speaker] Ooh!

- What if we put the skids underneath?

[somber music]

- Hey, turn that off!

We put the skids, the hydraulic skids under here,

throw this thing into some 360s,

with me and the bike sitting in there, right?

So you get the sensation of that,

all of a sudden blows through.

Bike comes out, goes into some burnout donuts,

and then wheelies towards it.

That's one idea.

- To me it's kind of boring. Boring, boring, boring,

boring, boring, boring, boring, boring!

- We incorporate like a little more machination to the gag

without the help of visual effects.

[upbeat music]

monster budgets, huge crews, designer sunglasses.

but if you really see the way it's done and stuff like that,

it's like- - In stages.

- 80% BS, special effects, and stuff like that.

- Mm-hmm. - Yeah.

- Just an idea, whether we throw it out or not,

the cab can split in a cool way,

either by sliding apart or gull winging.

Meanwhile the drivetrain, the transmission,

and the driver are all in the back here.

Potentially the driver would need to be

looking at a video monitor and facing rearward

in order to see what is happening in front.

- Okay, right.

- You create a- - Now you've exceeded

the five-day limit.

We only have five days. - Right.

- [Brett] Forget Hollywood, Jesse got his own ideas.

- Instead of totally radically modifying

and moving the motor around and everything,

I think it would be way cooler

if we make a bike fit inside the truck.

- Mm-hmm. - And come out

like a switchblade, a small platform that kind of like, chu-

- Mm-hmm. - Pops the bike out.

And you just drop ride over, do stunts, whatever,

and then the bike can ride back on.

- Right. - Then it's not

totally movie stuff, it's something that's-

- Right. - Actually useful.

- Right. - Or could be

perceived as useful. - Right.

It's not beyond the things I've done already.

And if we really wanna get crazy, we'll lay it down.

Come right at me, play chicken, get outta the way,

and I'll lay it down to a nice high speed lay down, I mean-

- We don't have no insurance, you know that, right?

- I hope you got it covered. [speaker laughs]

[upbeat music]

'cause people look at stuff like this and they just dig it.

and he also was talking about pin-up painting,

The easiest way to get a lot of money outta Jesse

- On cantilever hinges and- - Yeah,

because if we're going like

and that whole thing coming up in the air-

- Yeah. - It's gonna-

- So how are we gonna do it? - It's gonna

make it really unstable.

- Well, I don't think we need to go 50, 60.

I mean, we can still get the same effect at 30, 35.

We'll start slow.

Safety is the main factor, of course, for everyone.

so that when you get there,

you already have the plan made out

and know where you're going before you get there.

- [Brett] Good advice, Dwaine.

But is your team onboard with that?

Will the motorcycle actually fit in the cab?

- We got our work cut out for us.

- [Brett] Surprise!

The Triumph is bigger than it looks.

This changes everything.

- As I was saying, forethought. [chuckles]

[bell chiming]

- [Brett] The problem, the Triumph's back wheel

needs to go right where the Tundra's leaf spring

suspension is now located.

How do you fix that?

- Mm-hmm.

That's a toughie!

- Then put the solid point in the back

and put airbags on top.

[upbeat music]

- That would give us a clear span right here.

- He's just taken, wax the springs off, put airbags on top.

- [Jesse] Yep.

- [Brett] Dwaine, the desert rat,

has suggested adapting a design once used

in building dune buggies.

Cut the rear leaf springs in half,

and use the back halves only.

[machinery tools buzzing]

Dwaine plans to reattach the cut down leaf springs

on the rear axle, but only for stability.

In his grand plan, the weight of the truck

and motorcycle will be carried by airbags, yet to come.

The dune buggy design seems a little

too buggy for the rest of the team.

- This thing I'm gonna have really bad wheel hop,

if you jump on it. - It's gonna have a bad...

How to get the hinge platform to fold up inside.

Paul has gone to the local hardware and bought gate springs.

- The plan is to put it in between the gap in there

and wind them real tight,

so that they'll hold that last ramp up.

[upbeat music]

- You wanna play with his springy?

[speaker laughs]

It's flexible. [speaker laughs]

[upbeat music]

- [Brett] As Jesse considers

the folding extension platform, he sees a problem.

- I'm trying to figure out how we can get the bike

from right here and slid out to there

without having to like do the Austin Powers

back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.

If this is slid, whoosh, and drop that down

and it slid right out to the edge,

then when he rode on, it slid back in, close.

That would be cool.

- Better he angles off and angles on.

- I'm just thinking it's a lot to do in two days.

- Yeah.

- What do you think?

You wanna flip a coin?

Heads we do it, tails we press on.

[upbeat music]

Tails.

All right, stunt guy's gotta go at an angle.

Plenty of work for tomorrow.

[upbeat music]

But Tom and Eric want to finish the airbags today.

[upbeat music]

[upbeat music]

the gate springs have been bolted in and tensioned up.

They don't cut it just too wimpy.

[upbeat music]

- They're the biggest ones that hardware store had.

[upbeat music]

If you had a winch with the pulley, tisshh,

and you had it right here and you had it laying on here flat

and put some duct tape on it-

- [Brett] It's late in the day.

Duct tape, a winch, and duct tape.

- We get the winch

and then the cable just pulls the duct tape up,

and psshhh, out of the way.

Is that cheating?

[upbeat music]

- No, that's engineering.

[speaker laughs]

- [Brett] Just when they seem to be hallucinating,

it's Dwaine to the rescue once more.

- Yeah, but if we do this number, put that there,

and tag this like that.

As the gate comes up, it's gonna hit it,

and as it keeps going up, it's gonna pivot,

and it's just gonna roll it up.

- Try it.

- [Dwaine] That's all we have to do, just tack it correct.

[upbeat music]

- Just give it a try.

[upbeat music]

- [Brett] A couple of spot welds,

and the desert rat is ready to demo

his super-slick auto ramp closer.
