[theme music playing]
[narrator]
Tony Beets is on a roll.
Just two months
into the season,
he's already pocketed
$8 million in gold.
While Tony rides his crew
at the Indian River,
he's left son Mike in charge
of his other claim
on Paradise Hill.
Last week, Mike finally got
a plant running,
sluicing old-timer tailings
through washplant Harald.
[Mike]
Harald's up and going.
It's nice to finally
be sluicing.
Now I'm actually making a bit
of money instead of just
spending it.
My dad would be glad
I'm making a bit of money.
Mike's also been charged
with stripping the super pit
to feed the trommel,
but it's been slow going
after Tony pilfered his crew.
[Mike] I would love to do more,
but I don't have the people,
and that's the problem.
My dad takes, he don't give
nothing back.
It ends up being
a one-way street.
With his depleted crew now
at the super pit,
Mike needs to hire
new personnel
to keep Harald running.
[Mike] Despite my dad taking
my [bleep],
I'm gonna get this done.
I got these two new girls.
I'm gonna see how they do.
One says she has
a bit of experience
with farm equipment,
and the other one,
I don't know if [bleep]
has experience,
but I can always train 'em.
Whereabouts are you from?
New Brunswick, but I moved
to Alberta like four years ago.
So, where are you
originally from?
I'm originally
from British Columbia.
I did a bit of construction,
so, like, road pipe and, um,
started road work.
How are you feeling
about today?
We have to run a plant
by ourselves.
Our first time
running equipment.
Honestly, I'm pretty nervous.
I haven't really stepped
in a hoe before.
Is it your first time
running equipment, or...?
-No, I grew up farming, so --
-[Sienna] OK.
I ran loader before,
but nothing like
what we're gonna be
running at up here.
I'm excited, though.
I'm just gonna park
right over here.
[Mike] There you go.
Hop up.
I'm gonna hand you the hose.
Before tasking Sienna
and Kendra with running
the washplant, Mike talks
them through some basic tasks.
You can see the bottom
of the tank?
-[Sienna] Yeah.
-Perfect.
Now, remember,
let her flow, no go.
So your valve there is closed.
Open it up.
Perfect.
Now you hold the nozzle.
You just clicked out.
Don't have a holder?
-[Sienna] No.
-[Mike] It should.
You've never dealt with any
of this, have you?
-[Sienna] No.
-[Mike] Yeah, like that.
OK, now I'm gonna go
turn on the pump.
She's just probably unlucky
right now, because I haven't
eaten anything, so I'm kind
of a little hangry.
Hangry.
I ordered breakfast
this morning,
and I look at it like this
is the least appetizing thing
I've seen in my life.
I asked for scrambled eggs with
cheese, so I got an omelet
with cheese on top.
Pull it out slightly
and open it
to relieve the pressure
in the hose.
No --
Next time, you lift it,
you make sure the nozzle's
in the tank,
you relieve pressure.
That's how we don't get
fuel everywhere.
Next, Mike sends Kendra
to check the oil level
in the water pump.
[Kendra] I think I'll be fine.
Like, I did pipe fitting
and water transfer
back in Alberta, so I know
a little bit about pumps.
The engine oil in the pump was
a little low, so I'm gonna
put some more oil in it.
[Mike]
I would like to have them a bit
more time to get trained up,
'cause they're both way
too [bleep] nervous
for my [bleep] liking.
I'm still debating whether
I'm actually gonna let them
[bleep] sluice today.
[Kendra] It is very heavy.
Oh my [bleep], why isn't this
getting any lighter?
[engine starting]
Mike, do you copy, Mike?
Go ahead, go ahead.
I got the pump started
and full of oil.
-OK, just have to check.
-It's -- it's good.
That way.
[engine revving]
Got a piece of paper towel?
It was
right there.
So this thing is
insanely overfull.
So, yeah.
Rebecca, do you copy Rebecca?
[indistinct voice on radio]
Can you call Isaac
and ask him to bring
a pail or two with lids?
'Cause he got to empty
some engine oil
out of a pump for me.
[Rebecca on radio]
Alrighty, he's on the way.
That's best
that I caught it now.
This is why I double check.
This is why you add
a little bit,
you check your thing.
'Cause you can easily
overfill one of those things.
If it builds up too much
pressure, you can basically
blow a head and crankshaft.
I'd rather not waste
$100,000 engine, OK?
[bleep] happens.
You've basically been
thrust into something
you've never done before,
and you're not close enough
that I can be consistently here.
So I think I might just put
you guys on rock trucks.
Isaac's gonna drain
a bit of oil.
Had I left it,
not double-checked it,
and not trust my paranoia,
that could have cost me
an engine.
It's not her fault.
If you don't know,
you don't know.
I can't blame you for that.
I think they'll be fine if we
give them another day or two
of training, just so they get
more comfortable,
more used to it.
And then they'll be fine.
Pump disaster avoided.
Mike checks in
on Kendra and Sienna,
now on rock truck duties
in the super pit.
Two rock trucks are going
into the cut.
-Is that Kendra and Sienna?
-Yeah.
Yeah, do not be so close
to each other,
'cause that is asking
for an accident.
Stop the one who's now
speeding up.
Stop!
I said stop, and you're
still moving.
OK, stop it right now!
Get out of your truck!
You're being written up.
You!
I'm pointing at you.
I don't know who's
in that truck.
You get out.
You're coming with me.
Let's go!
In the truck.
[tense music playing]
Next time I say, "Stop,"
you stop.
That's [bleep] dangerous.
Do not ever get
that close behind her.
If she hit the brakes and you
didn't notice quick enough...
Also, when I call on the radio,
I demand that you reply.
Now tell me, could you hear me
on the radio when I was
yelling at you?
[Sienna speaking]
OK, then did you hear me
after that you switched it?
And then did you still move
after that?
[Sienna speaking]
OK, then I'll leave this
as a verbal warning.
And I won't actually
write you up.
Make sure your radio's
on the channel.
It's perfect.
[Sienna]
I didn't know that there was
a rule of how far you should be
with the trucks.
Um, I was very, like...
intimidated in a way.
I was scared,
um, because I don't wanna
go home.
I want to stay here.
I like it here in Paradise.
I say I try to be a good boss.
I don't say I am a good boss.
It's up to my employees to say
I'm a good boss, not me.
I think Mike had the right
to get angry.
He -- it -- it is...
we are -- like,
Me and her are both still new,
but you gotta learn.
Mike's lost a day of sluicing,
attempting to train up
Sienna and Kendra to run
the washplant.
Sienna and Kendra are not
doing the job right.
They're still new to this.
They're still new to a lot
of this stuff, which is fine.
It's not their fault.
I do not have the time
to sit there and watch them.
-Rebecca, do you copy?
-[indistinct voice on radio]
[Mike] I'm gonna have to find
somebody else.
Now, Mike is on the hunt
for experienced operators
capable of running the plant
on their own.
-I need people.
-You need people?
-Well, I printed some resumes.
-Perfect.
-Hey, Mother.
-[Minnie] Yes, what's up?
Would you like to see some
of the people we may be hiring?
OK.
What are you all hiring?
What do you need?
I need a hoe loader
operator, more specifically,
that can do multiple jobs.
What about a rock truck driver?
I can turn anyone
and their mother
into a rock truck driver.
Well -- well, that's
questionable, too,
because you couldn't
make me into one.
-[Mike] Yeah.
So we've got a couple here,
gonna go through 'em.
[Minnie] You're gonna set up
interviews with them?
[Rebecca] Yeah.
Put them on the piece
of equipment, and then you see
what they can do.
-Yeah.
-[Minnie] Right?
-[Mike] Yep.
-[Minnie] ASAP.
-Yeah, I know.
Then you should go back
to work.
Well, this is actually work.
I know, but you should go
to physical work.
[Mike] I know, I get it, Ma.
You want me gone.
-[Minnie] OK, let's go.
-[Rebecca] See ya.
You do whatever you gotta do,
and I go whatever I have to do.
[Rebecca]
I'll make some phone calls.
[Minnie] Sounds good.
[Mike]
I'll look, uh...
I'll have a quick look
at this one, 'cause then we'll
set up a couple of interviews.
[Rebecca] OK, let me know
which ones are suitable.
If we're really gonna
sluice it, Mike is gonna need
to hire some more people.
And he better gets on there,
because otherwise
it'll never happen.
[birds chirping]
Nothing but work,
work, and work.
Kevin Beets, Tony's eldest boy,
is battling to keep
his season alive.
After a flying start,
he lost crew and has been
fighting washplant shutdowns
for two weeks.
With little gold coming in,
Kevin is running out of money,
fast.
[Kevin] Just been one thing
after another.
So far this year,
we had Brennan leave,
then Kayden left us,
and now Buzz has gone to go,
well, have a baby.
I am definitely feeling
everybody's absences these days.
I'm spending more time
down in the cut
helping to direct plans there.
And I've got to jump back
into more fixing things.
Trying to find people is kind
of a nightmare, to be honest.
We can't just try people
out like Tony can.
Tony can have ten people --
Oh...
That's a Parker!
Hey buddy!
-[Parker] How's it going?
-[Kevin] Oh, not too bad.
-[Parker] I've never
been up here.
-No?
-[Parker] Good to see ya.
-Same.
How's your start
of season going?
[Parker] Um, oh, you know,
spending money, not making any.
-Yeah, at least made some.
-[Parker] Yeah.
-Yeah.
-That's kind of why I'm here.
-I kind of figured.
-[Parker] Yeah.
Yeah.
What are you guys up to?
Me and Faith this year
are going out on our own.
-Congrats on doing this.
-Oh, thank you.
Last season, Kevin and Faith
bought equipment from Parker.
[Parker] You don't need to pay
for anything now.
-You start a tab.
-[Kevin] Appreciate that.
I really do.
A bucket, a ripper,
and a rock truck.
[Kevin] 110.
-Mm, go 105?
-[Parker] I don't haggle.
Buy it or don't buy it,
I don't really care.
-So you're taking it?
-[Kevin] Taking it.
[Parker] Congratulations.
Running up a total debt
close to $130,000.
[Kevin] It's hard to negotiate
from the position of, well,
we really [bleep]
need something.
Now, Parker wants his money.
Um, yeah, 'cause the deal was
like end of the season, right?
-That was six months ago.
-[Kevin] Mm-hmm.
See, but you also didn't
send us a bill
until a couple weeks ago.
And if we don't have
an invoice, it's kind of hard
to just send money your way.
I hope you agree with that.
Uh, well, it's been like
a month, Kevin.
I know, I know.
Which was five months late.
[tense music playing]
See, but you also didn't
send us a bill
until a couple weeks ago.
And if we don't have
an invoice, it's kind of hard
to just send money your way.
I hope you agree with that.
Uh, well, it's been
like a month, Kevin.
I know, I know.
Which was five months late.
Kevin Beets has a debt
close to $130,000 with Parker,
who wants his money now.
Like, what was the plan
in January
if I sent you an invoice?
Uh, to pay it, then.
So how come you didn't pay it
last month when I sent it?
Because I figured you made us
wait so long,
you probably weren't hurting
for the money.
-I made you wait so long?
-[Kevin] Yeah.
OK, that --
Good.
Perfect.
All right.
Thursday?
[Kevin] Uh, double check
with Faith, but yeah.
I need to double check
with Faith?
[Kevin] If you want, we can
both go double check.
Is she in here
or is she in the office?
She might be in the kitchen.
[Kevin humming]
[tense music playing]
Faith's not here,
I take it, yeah?
[man] No, no, no,
I think she's in the trailer.
OK.
She's not doing terribly good,
so she's in the trailer.
Give me two seconds.
Hey, Faith.
Parker just dropped by.
He wanted to get paid
for the rock truck
and other things we bought
from him last year.
[Faith] Mm-hmm.
[Faith]
It kind of suits his finances,
but it kind of [bleep] up ours.
The money that I put aside
for him, we've already spent it.
[Kevin] Hopefully this week,
we can sluice enough
that we can pay him back.
I don't really give a [bleep].
I just want to get paid
so I can pay our bills.
Because I have managed
to spend like
four and a half million dollars
so far this spring.
And now I'm tracking
down 130 grand.
It's like the equivalent
of looking through
the seat cushions.
-Yeah, Thursday.
-[Parker] OK.
So we should be able to do it
for the truck,
the bucket and the ripper.
-[Parker] OK.
That is everything, correct?
-Yeah.
-Perfect.
-Thanks.
-Thank you.
I was hoping to delay paying
him a little bit because, well,
I assumed he could wait
a little bit more
than the smaller guys.
If you're having to chase
people for money,
it's like Kevin shows up
next week and needs something.
I'm like, "Well, OK,
cash up front."
Right?
And that's probably
what I should have done
with the trucks, but I was like,
"It's Kevin's first season,
I wanna help a guy out."
As long as he pays me,
then I'm fine.
Watch him not...
Then the pitchforks come out.
I'm not feeling too bad
about not getting his money
as quick as [bleep] possible
because, again,
he's got more than I [bleep] do
by a lot.
[crow cawing]
Things right now are going
really good.
You know, we're, like,
at a pretty decent point
in the season and starting
to pick up momentum.
Back at his Dominion claim,
Parker is hitting his stride.
The next thing is just,
like, how much can we handle
with how spread thin we are?
It's gonna get real bad
with three plants running
this early in the season.
There's just a lot
going on, so...
If we can...
keep the wheels on the bus,
you know,
we're in a very good place.
But it's gonna take a lot
of effort and work
on everybody's part in order
to make that happen.
Parker's spending $100,000
a day running his washplants,
with Mitch and Brennan pulling
in gold from Sulphur,
and Tyson with the extra
pressure of running
two plants at Dominion.
Tyson, he's doing
a really good job,
but it's a lot for one guy
to take on.
He's got a lot on his plate,
so hopefully he can handle it.
[Tyson]
So this is the last bit of pay
here for the first setup of Bob
in the Bridge Cut
of the season.
Then we'll be moving Bob
to its new home.
But there's a lot of work
to be done to...
get the washplant actually
moved, like in preparation.
We have our super stacker pad
we've gotta get in place.
We have our feeder pad.
We have our washplant pad.
That's a lot of work to happen
by the end of the week here.
Probably have to pull
some late nights
to get this happening here.
While Tyson gets ready
to move washplant Bob
to its second location
in the Bridge Cut...
in the Golden Mile,
the cleanup crew is
pulling Sluicifer's mats.
I'm just checking to see how
much gold we have in the runs,
and I'll make sure that there
is no gold at the bottom.
Actually, there's tons of gold
down here.
Uh, it's not good.
Gold at the bottom
of the sluice runs
could be a sign that some gold
is being washed away
into the fine tailings.
Hey, Tyson, do you have
a copy, Tyson?
[Tyson on radio]
Go ahead, Tater Tot.
I'm here at the sluice box,
and it looks like we have
a lot of gold right
at the bottom runs.
And it looks like we might have
lost a bit, so can you come
and have a look for us, please?
[Tyson] Well, that doesn't
sound good, Tot.
I'm on my way.
Sounds like we're losing gold
up at Sluicifer.
You know, this year, there is
a lot going on,
normally I'm just in charge
of one cut
and one washplant,
and this year it's two,
and, you know, who knows
what else Parker's gonna try
and throw at...
at a guy.
Bob move is gonna have to be
on hold until we can
figure this out.
Gonna do some panning here.
out of Sluicifer's
fine tailings.
You know, this is
really bad news.
We're washing gold out
of the runs.
With gold prices
at an all-time high,
Parker could be losing hundreds
of thousands of dollars.
Yeah, we gotta do something,
that's for sure.
[tense music playing]
On the way to meet Parker,
gonna chat about Sluicifer.
We're losing gold,
and we gotta figure out why.
-What'd you do?
-[Parker] I didn't do it.
This thing's broken.
-Watch out.
-[Tyson] Nice.
Straight piped.
You know, man, I just left
Sluicifer, and it looks
like the gold's running
pretty hard down the box.
Just wanted to get
your thoughts on things
and what you think we should do?
Um...
I think trying to slow
the material down,
it might help.
And so I think putting in
like, kickbacks that kick
the material back
upstream, right?
-Yeah.
And it just gives it a chance
to kind of slow down and see
if that makes a difference.
-For sure.
-[Parker] All right.
[Tyson] Alrighty.
Sounds good, man.
[Parker] Thanks, Tyson.
Washplant Sluicifer runs 250
yards of pay dirt an hour,
but its gold-rich slurry is
pouring into the sluice runs
too fast, causing some gold
to flow past the riffles
and out of the box
into the fine tailings.
Parker's plan is to redesign
the distribution chutes
that sit behind
a rubber curtain
at the top of the sluices
with eight kickbacks.
If they work, it should take
some of the impact energy
out of the gold-rich slurry
as it falls and is kicked back,
slowing the flow down,
allowing all the gold time
to settle and be caught
in the sluice boxes.
We got all day to do it,
but it's two days worth of work.
[dramatic music playing]
[Alec]
We're gonna cut the back wall
out of the distribution here,
and then this plate will
go up inside on an angle.
That'll effectively,
when the slurry comes down,
it'll come towards the back
of the sluice box.
[Bill] Do you wanna just put
one tack on it?
-[Alec] Yeah.
-[Bill] Away we go.
[Alec] Nice.
Should we tack another one?
Say something like that.
Not bad for eyeballing.
I think they're pretty even.
One more and another,
and that's it.
Try that.
Nice work.
-[Bill] Does this mean
we're done?
-[Alec] Yeah.
[Bill]
All right, how's your day going?
Hopefully better now,
you guys tell me.
-We're just about to test it.
-[Tyson] All righty.
-[Alec] I'll hit the belts.
-Yeah, they're clear, Alec.
[Bill] Clear!
[Tyson] It all looks good.
We got a lot of gold to catch
this year, and we want it
in the gold room,
not in our tailings.
Gotta get down to Bob,
continue setting up
the next washplant pad,
'cause it's gonna be done
in a couple days and this needs
to be set up by the end
of the week, so got a lot
of work ahead of me.
Right now I ain't got [bleep]
hope in hell to do anything.
Mike Beets' plan to run
washplant Harald all week
has crashed and burned.
He's lost three days sluicing,
while struggling to find
skilled crew to run the plant.
Now, he's trying two new hires
who are more seasoned.
So I put
these two gentlemen in.
We're gonna see how they do.
And they have a bit
of experience.
You never know.
Some people just pick it
up like...
[snaps fingers]
Here's the first bucket.
Let's make some money.
I'm from Saskatchewan.
I came out here to learn
heavy equipment.
This is the farthest
I've ever gone for work,
and, uh, it's beautiful
out here.
Before this, I was actually
an industrial painter.
I did all the white and yellow
lines that you guys see
on the road.
It most definitely is a great
deal of responsibility for me
and Brayson to be
down here running the plant
on our own.
[Brayson]
Oh, [bleep] the water pressure
is way too low.
I have to get a hold.
Mike, do you copy?
Uh, the washplant here,
the water pressure's
really [bleep] low
and things aren't looking
so good right now.
Copy that.
[Mike]
By the looks of it, it looks
like the banding inside broke,
'cause it looks like this whole
thing got pulled away.
That's not gonna last very long
before it rips the hose off.
The pump's hose has ruptured,
allowing water to escape,
reducing pressure
to the washplant.
[Mike] So, get a new hose,
hook it up, and that way,
I can get to sluicing again.
-Ready?
-[Brayson] Yeah.
[whirring]
Oh, that's gonna be fun
to pick up.
[Mike] We're gonna have
to get a hoe over here.
I'm being eaten alive
by mosquitoes.
[bleep]
[bleep]
Get out of my [bleep] ear,
you little [bleep]!
[Noah] Nice.
[Mike] New pipe.
Now we're gonna hook
this whole thing up.
We'll be golden.
Zac!
Up.
Oh, you...
[sighs]
Oh, we were pulling on the pipe
and it put too much stress
on that joint.
And it just popped out.
That happens sometimes.
OK.
Hold.
Ah!
OK.
[exhales sharply]
Got the new hose on.
All I have to do is
start her up and she'll be
sluicing here
in like 20 minutes.
[engine revving]
Everything's hooked up.
We should be ready
to [bleep] get
going now, finally.
It kind of sucked that it was
down, but it's good
that now we got it up
and running, and everything's
running pretty smooth right now.
The pump breakdown has lost
Mike another eight hours
of sluicing.
Good thing they contacted me
and didn't just
leave it running.
Brayson and Noah be doing
pretty good.
They wanna learn.
No, those boys do good.
[bleep] eventually does break,
it happens.
Sucks, costs money, but so long
as the end result is
I'm getting gold,
that's all that matters.
[tense music slowly building up]
[bleep] me.
Copy, Rick.
The pre-wash is all piled up.
Shut the water off, Rick.
Shut the water off.
At Scribner Creek,
Kevin Beets' crew is racing
to bank enough gold
to pay back Parker.
Copy, Kevin.
Got a problem with the plant.
We're shutting it down.
Someone grab me a shovel!
But now his washplant
has shut down,
and with mechanic Buzz away,
it's all on Kevin to fix it.
So let's go see
what we're working with.
[grunting]
You know...
Oh yeah, I can see
that right away.
Whew!
This skid plate is not
lying flat.
It's built up and you wouldn't
think it going from like this
to this will make that much
of a difference, but it is
very [bleep] noticeable
when this mat lays flat
on the pre-wash
versus when it is
like it is now.
Let's put this out of the way
for now.
Before Kevin can realign
the angle of the hopper
feeder's skid plate,
he needs to lift it out,
remove the rubber mat,
and clean out the dirt
that pushed the plate up.
I'm like, I'm sure I can get
somebody in here to shovel,
but then I'll be standing
watching them shovel,
and few things put me up
the wall as standing around.
Agh!
So I've taken out
a lot of the stuff
underneath the skid plate
that's causing everything
to rise up, I'm hoping
by making it more angled,
all the material that falls
in here is just gonna go
straight into the plant.
Kevin plans to replace
the rubber mat
with a more robust steel plate
to ensure pay dirt doesn't get
trapped and flows directly
into the shaker deck.
This is my super official,
highly complicated engineering
drawing of what I gotta cut.
The master plan.
I can almost still read it.
Piece of cake.
Yeah, that's pretty much it.
The master engineering plan,
uh, works.
Fixes are done, so let's
turn it on
and see what she [bleep] does.
[machine buzzing]
Conveyor's on.
I always hate this part.
[engine revving]
[Kevin] There we go!
Feels good to be back on track
and getting gold.
It's always painful
when you gotta shut down,
but nice to get more money
in the [bleep] box, so yeah.
That allows us
to pay off Parker.
[epic music playing]
-[birds chirping]
-[tranquil music playing]
We're about to connect.
Six miles away...
[Liam] Easy, baby!
[Tyson] Gotta get it done.
Parker Schnabel's foreman,
Tyson, is about to attempt
one of his trickiest
plant moves.
[Tyson] We're just about ready
to pull our feeder out.
-What do you say, Liam?
-[Liam] Let's drag it.
[Tyson] Let's do her.
Washplant Bob sluiced 10 acres
of the Bridge Cut
and needs to be moved
to its second position
of the season.
First, Tyson and his crew will
haul the plant's 40-ton feeder
on a lowboy up
a 15-degree ramp,
then navigate it
around the edge
of a narrow section of the pit
and down into the new position
Finally, Tyson will drag
the 45-ton washplant
with an excavator across
a narrow dike to its new pad.
If anyone sees anything
they don't like, just holler.
[tense music playing]
[Tyson] Just wanna be careful,
go slow with it,
'cause we do not have
a spare feeder.
We cannot afford anything to go
wrong with this feeder.
So, you know,
right now we're trying to pull
this feeder up this hill,
but it doesn't wanna do it.
Just wants to [bleep] spin,
fully locked up.
Just spinning tires.
Hey, Alec, you got a copy, Alec?
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm gonna give this
one more try, man,
but I think we need
that loader over here
to pull this thing up the hill.
Oh, we almost
got her that time.
[bleep]
This isn't gonna work.
Better go grab that loader.
The semi truck's
Tyson's solution?
Bring in extra muscle.
Parker's 390 horsepower
-[Tyson] OK, first gear?
-[Alec] Yep, good check.
[Tyson] OK, nice and slow
on your lead.
Nice and easy through
this section here, Alec.
OK, we're starting
to climb the steep part.
Just keep her going
the way we're going.
We don't wanna tear
anything up here.
Keep going, Alec.
Keep going.
It's starting to slip here.
Hang on.
There's no hanging on.
We're not stopping now.
OK, should be good there, Alec.
Well, we got the feeder out,
and now we're...
We'll go drag a washplant here.
[truck horn honking]
OK, here we go.
We're starting to enter
our narrow dike here.
My biggest concern is
this washplant
falling off this dike.
Last thing we wanna do is
have Bob down in the hole.
Whoa, whoa, we're a little
close to the edge there.
You know, there's a lot
of tension on those shackles.
You can hear 'em
creaking and cracking.
Because Bob...
is one heavy washplant.
[tense music playing]
[Liam] It's terrifying.
Yeah, I mean, this is
the highest beds we've ever
built our washplants on.
-[Tyson] How am I looking, Liam?
-Take another three, four feet.
-[Tyson] Easy there.
Whoa!
[Liam on radio]
And stop there.
[Tyson] We got her in place.
Washplant Bob is now
in position
on its new 60-foot-high pad.
Hey, Liam, you wanna rig up
the super stacker?
[Liam] Looks good.
[Alec] Keep it coming.
-[Tyson] Well, shall we?
-[Alec] Let's do it.
[Tyson] All righty, here we go.
We got power.
[Liam] Sounds like a jet.
[Alec] I'll go hit the water.
With Bob in place,
Tyson's finally bringing in
more Bridge Cut gold.
Well, guys, we did it.
Bob's back up and running.
Nice work.
Yeah, nice work on your behalf
and your behalf.
I just like the environment.
And the Yukon is gorgeous.
At Paradise Hill, Mike Beets'
new recruits,
Kendra and Sienna,
have survived their first week
on site.
Sienna and Kendra just need
to get more confidence on it.
It's not for a lack of skill,
'cause they do pretty good.
It's just they seem
to get too nervous.
And that's holding them back.
I can't complain much.
I haven't gotten yelled at.
Just gotta be careful
before you do things, of course.
So when everything goes
smooth and dandy,
then it's a good day for sure.
But it's not easy.
-It's not for everybody.
-I think it's wicked.
I'd never seen actual gold
until I came up here.
And then I finally seen gold
for the first time,
and I was pretty excited.
Oh, I love it up here.
I don't know if I wanna go home.
-[Minnie] Hi, guys.
-[all] Hello.
-[Minnie] Long time no see.
-[Monica] Been positively ages.
What have you been up to?
[Monica] Yeah.
With that being said, I think
we should weigh up the Indian.
[Monica] Cool.
Let's do it.
Tony has been running
Sluice-a-Lot
in the Early Bird Cut
nonstop this week.
Worth $1,450,000.
[Minnie] Again, eh?
[Minnie] Well, not the way
you're spending, so...
But that's pretty good
for the week, though.
[Monica] Yeah.
How's Harald going?
It's just not been going
very well.
It's just little things.
We did get some guys that are
a little bit more experienced.
Both of them were doing
pretty good,
throwing through quite
what should be
a reasonable amount of dirt.
[Minnie] OK, let's...
Last week, Harald ran
for two days,
banking 14.28 ounces of gold.
-[Monica] Are you ready?
-[Tony speaking]
Worth $59,000.
-[Tony speaking]
-Three days, give or take.
Well, it's kind of nice
to see something coming out.
It's not a lot, but at least
something is getting
in from there.
-[Mike] But like I said,
I've been fighting
the whole thing just
to get that.
I'm gonna see if it gets
better 'cause maybe it's
just teething pains.
But if it keep having
this much trouble
just running it,
and that's the gold
I'm gonna get,
uh, we're gonna have
to make plans for something else
'cause it's just not working.
Yeah.
So what's your grand total?
Twenty-seven hundred
and thirty nine, roughly.
[Minnie] Yeah.
I think we should go
back to work.
[Minnie] OK.
I just cleaned up gold, so now
I'm gonna do picking.
Kevin Beets needs to clear
his debt to Parker.
How did the pickings look
right now, anything good?
[Faith] No, I have this much
pickings right now.
-Shall we see what we got?
-[Kevin] Let's do it.
Let's do it.
But I don't think that's gonna
quite cover Parker's bill.
So I still have a little bit
more gold.
[Kevin] OK.
Wanna add it to the pile?
[Faith] Let's see what we got.
Worth $97,000.
$31,000 short
of what they owe Parker.
So I should probably quickly
sell this.
Yeah, probably.
Plus whatever's
in our bank account.
I got stuff on the go,
so I'll be back.
OK.
See you, moms.
-Goodbye.
-[Kevin] Bye.
I'm still a bit annoyed
at Parker for showing up
and saying that we're
six months late paying
this [bleep] bill when he didn't
give us the invoice
till last [bleep] month, but...
All that really matters is
we have the gold now
to pay him off, and we can put
the whole thing to bed, so...
That's all that matters
right now.
[Tyson]
How are you doing, Chris?
Nice vest.
You think that?
Yeah.
You can't even do it up
with that paunch.
[Chris] When I got up here,
my pants size was 38.
I'm now wearing 35s.
It has nothing to do with
the fact that you smoke
your breakfast and lunch.
-[laughing]
And did we find any gold
this week, Chris?
Yeah, let's do Sluice.
Good thing Tater Tot noticed
that Sluicifer was
losing gold when she
shut it down.
She noticed there was gold
running out the runs
and, you know, Parker came up
with a solution
of putting kickbacks
to the distribution box.
-Yeah.
Last week, Sluicifer delivered
If the kickback has worked,
it should get more gold.
[Tyson] Here we go.
Got 10, 40, 60, 80, 100,
Worth $953,000.
-[Tyson] There we go.
-[Chris] Yeah.
Nice.
That's not bad.
Anyway, Bob took a hike
this week.
Yeah, a lot of pieces to move
and never moves fast enough.
It's so busy around here
that it's hard to be
in every place at once, so.
-You wanna do Bob?
Bob's total in the Bridge Cut
last week was 188.4 ounces.
[Chris] Here we go.
Here's Bob.
Worth $338,000.
[Tyson] Short week.
You gotta expect it, right?
-Oh, plant move.
-Yeah.
How's our little extension
treating us here at Sulphur?
While Tyson's worked Dominion,
Mitch has been looking for gold
left behind by the old timers
on Sulphur Creek.
So far, it's been averaging
We got 60, 120...
Keep her going, keep going.
Oh, we're gonna do it.
-[Tyson] Did we do it?
-[Mitch] 302.
Worth just over $1 million.
[Brennan] Holy [bleep]!
-You pulled three again, buddy!
-[Mitch] [bleep], yeah.
[Brennan] Tyson, you're getting
smoked, buddy!
[chuckling]
Let's see what the book says.
This week, we have 670.65.
Our season total so far
this year is 3,541 ounces.
Close to $12.5 million
worth of gold.
Sweet.
[Chris] If we can keep this
going, it'll be great.
-What?
-"Sweet."
Yeah, I mean, what you
want me to do?
-You want me to do a dance?
-Yeah, I wanna see you dance!
-I'm not gonna do a dance.
-[laughing]
Well, should we go finish
her off and get a plant moving.
-[Chris] All right, gentlemen.
-[Brennan] Thanks, guys.
[Chris] Yep.
Thank you.
-Take care.
-[Parker] See you, Chris.
[Chris] Yep.
