[Japanese theme music playing]

BAKI-DOU: THE INVINCIBLE SAMURAI

[lyrics in Japanese]

[music fades]

[machines beeping]

[Kureha] The overall amount
of transfused blood

would've filled a bathtub.

All in all, he had ten wounds.

Each quite deep.

A thousand.
That's how many stitches I had to use.

Even for me, it was definitely a first.

Enough blood transfused to fill a bathtub
and a thousand stitches.

That's Hanayama for ya.

[Kureha] The life of a powerhouse
is by no means an easy one.

[Tokugawa exhales]

Meanwhile,
Baki has officially challenged Musashi.

I'm not surprised, but tell me,
will weapons be allowed this time?

I'm still debating that point.

But a samurai's a samurai.

You can't exactly call him
the great Miyamoto

if he's not holding his sword.

His strength with a sword
has been proven to us time and time again.

And yet, despite that, Baki will face him
using nothing but his bare hands.

It's not as simple as facing him anymore.

Baki went so far as to say
he'd send him back to the grave.

So Baki really said something like that?

He said it quite bluntly,
without hesitation.

And right to Musashi's face.

- [uneasy music playing]
- [Kureha] Hmm…

That just doesn't sound like Baki.

Normally, I'd agree.

It wouldn't be like him at all
if it was just posturing.

[Kureha] So you're saying
he really meant it?

[Tokugawa] You see, Kureha,

Baki Hanma doesn't need to fake anything.

[Baki] Man, how many days
have I slacked off already?

No training.

[man] Huh?

- [woman] What is it, babe?
- Nothing.

[Baki] Though master swordsman Musashi

isn't exactly spending his days
in training.

He's just going about his life as usual.

So I guess we're about on equal footing.

- [scoffs] No special training needed.
- [man gasps]

Huh?

- [man gasps]
- Hmm?

[Baki] And yet, I'm still getting bigger.

My chest, my shoulders,

my arms, legs,

even my feet.

Check out that guy
in the T-shirt up ahead.

Why, what is it?

Just watch him for a second.

[Baki] And my body hasn't
let down its guard at all.

For example,

if I suddenly took a punch,

or a kick,

or if I was grabbed,

or even slashed at…

The second I imagine it,
my body's already starting to react.

- Whoa!
- Okay! You see?

His torso vanished.

[Baki] If I'm surrounded…

surrounded and even slashed at…

[man gasps]

Huh?!

…I can visualize it.

Exactly how I would move.

He…

[in unison] He disappeared.

[man] I… I guess we should just…

[woman] Let's just pretend
we didn't see anything. Sound good?

[air whooshing]

- [resounding slap]
- [grunts]

[grunts]

[Baki gasps]

KENBATSUZANRYUKAI

[Shinogi] They aren't blades.

So how am I cutting
with just my bare extremities?

I suspect you understand it already, Baki.

[Baki] You're manipulating the ends.

By using the ends of my limbs,

sometimes it's the wrist,

or maybe the ankle,
but the ends become like knives.

With combat sports
like boxing and Muay Thai,

though they're just sports,

the ability of an A-class fighter
still poses a major threat,

especially to martial artists
fighting bare-handed.

However…

Go on.

If there's any advantage
to being a martial artist like us,

it is precisely this versatility.

A gloved hand is limited
to jabs and punches.

In some sports, the kicking techniques
only use the instep or the sole.

But bare extremities
are infinitely diverse.

I've heard about
that match you're planning,

when you'll face Musashi Miyamoto's sword
with no weapons of your own.

That's how it could appear to the layman,

but

if you were to travel, for example,

you would pass
right through the gate at the airport.

The metal detector would not react.

[Baki] Mm-hmm.

That's rather frightening.

Are you beginning to see my point, Baki?

Deadly instruments, blunt weapons,

knives, axes, swords, spears, whips,
and even expl*sives.

A body that innately
possesses those powers

can pass right through the detector
without any issue.

Which means you could hijack a plane
at a moment's notice.

Baki, that is the kind of being
that you are right now.

Tell me, Musashi.

What did you think of him? Kaoru Hanayama?

[Musashi] Hmm.

Something I could not cut.

Something you could not cut?

[Musashi] Men, trees, stone, and metal.

I once prided myself
on being able to cut anything.

I see. So nothing could escape you?

[Musashi] I suppose I did cut him,

but I wasn't able to fully cut him down.

That man's fortress of muscle
surpassed even armor.

It was confounding.

It didn't act like flesh.

[Tokugawa] Huh…

[Musashi] Hmm.

Intention, thoughts, and will.

The sturdiness of those spirits.

His resilience was able
to knock my blade away.

- Is that a satisfactory explanation?
- [Tokugawa lights pipe]

[inhales slowly, exhales]

Look, Musashi.

Hanayama is quite strong,
but Baki is even stronger than that.

Even that colossal titan of a man,
Hanayama,

the Hanayama who pushed you
as far as he did,

that man pales in comparison with Baki.

That fact is undeniable.

[slurping]

[sighs]

The boy is stronger than Hanayama.

I was aware of that.

Oh? You already knew that?

Well, that's a bit odd to hear.

[dramatic music sting]

[Tokugawa] After all, Musashi,
you did already defeat Baki once.

I had assumed that you would insist
on recognition for that victory.

That wasn't a proper match.

Huh?!

I simply exploited the boy's immaturity
and manipulated him.

Manipulated?

I could gauge his strength from a glance.

Before he could muster his spirits,
I used mockery, trickery, and threats.

Manipulating the situation
so that he couldn't display his strength.

These are not the tactics of a true match.

I suppose even if he were to hear that,

it wouldn't make Baki feel
any better about it.

But no matter what anyone says,

he's always known to concede
if he's defeated.

Sneak attacks,
dirty tricks, the use of weapons,

multiple opponents,
and even fights against another species.

Baki will never reject a fight.

Take him down, you win.

Get brought to your knees, you lose.
It's as simple and unpretentious as that.

Simple, you say?

Shouldn't that be enough for ya?

The rules of engagement are plain,
aren't they? [slurping]

[Musashi chuckles]

It sounds to me like you're saying
he wouldn't lose our match.

There's this.
It's something you don't know.

[Musashi] You speak truthfully?

The only being on Earth

who managed to defeat
the legendary strongman, Yujiro Hanma,

was that flyweight, the boy, Baki Hanma.

[dramatic music playing]

I remember it now.

That feast stretching on and on.

A feast as wide as the horizon,
reaching to the ends of the Earth!

[chuckles]

How auspicious!

[dramatic music playing]

It's absolutely mouthwatering!

Truly awe-inspiring and fortunate.

Tokugawa,

let the preparations begin!

[booming thud]

[both gasp]

[Shinogi gasps]

This… this is really incredible.

The tape is peeled off,

but on the back, and not where you hit it.

This is the level
you need to be performing at.

I've heard of
your opponent's renowned strength.

Everyone knows how powerful Musashi is,

but even that great swordsman,
taking a hit with that kind of force,

there's no way he'll remain standing.

Well,

knocking him down isn't exactly the goal.

[Shinogi gasps]

- I'm thinking I might need to k*ll him.
- [suspenseful music playing]

- [Shinogi gasps]
- [grunts]

k*ll him?

The hell? Those aren't words
I've heard you use before.

I certainly haven't used them often.

You know, there was something
that Doppo Orochi said.

You're wondering
whether this man is the real deal?

This man who goes by Musashi?

The truth of it is
that it really doesn't matter.

What's truly important

is that his strength seems to be on par
with the man from the legends.

[Shinogi] That's what he told me.

Doppo was speaking from experience,

considering he actually had
a match with him.

They're not words to be taken lightly.

So are you telling me the plan
is not just to beat him in the arena,

but to k*ll Musashi?

That's right. I'll k*ll him, bury him.

It'll be a slaughter.

[tense music playing]

[Baki] Thank you both for your time.

He can't be allowed to exist.

[music fades]

[shocked gasping]

[man 1] He actually went in.

Trying to tail him secretly, huh?

That'll be a fool's errand.

Zero-one here. Go ahead, zero-zero.

[man 2] This is zero-zero.
Copy you, zero-one.

[man 1] Zero-one, our current location is

six-eight-seven-three-five-eight.

We're outside the manhole
at that location.

Hmm?

[dramatic music sting]

- [snake hissing]
- [Musashi grunts]

[slithering, choked hissing]

[Musashi grunts]

[grunting]

Mmm.

[gulps, exhales softly]

So this is a Ryukyu viper.

It's nicer than regular snake.

[tense music playing]

Look at that.
He certainly won't go hungry.

[chuckles]

This one has a real appetite.

Well, Pickle, by the gods, you've grown!

Hanayama was massive as well.

But Pickle, you are on
a completely different level.

Well, anyway. I suppose
you're wondering why I'm down here.

I've come to see you.

Kuwata, sir? I was just wondering,
considering where we are…

What, rookie? You only just realized it?

So… so… so it is Pickle, then?

Uh, wait! But then that means…

That's right, rookie.

Someone wants to bring
the two of them together.

The samurai must have been tipped off
about this place.

All this, completely picked clean.

Did you really eat all of this
by yourself?

You ate everything raw
without the aid of fire.

Only the bones remain.

Even the guts are completely gone.

No wonder you got so strong.

[Pickle growling]

[Musashi] Hmm?

[gulps] You want me to… to eat that?

[Pickle growls]

Om…

[grunting]

Aah.

Hmm…

Ah, that's the brain matter.

It's quite good!

[Pickle grunting]

[Musashi] Uh… uh…

Pickle, uh, why don't we just talk
for a bit?

I… I'll take this as a souvenir.

Wonderful, I'll be sure to eat this later.
I'll grill it.

[gentle music playing]

I heard from Tokugawa

that you can't speak at all.

Yet I still came to talk to you.

[narrator] Pickle had also come
from a distant, far-off age.

Musashi had heard from Tokugawa

that Pickle was in
a similar situation to himself.

Neither of them truly understanding
how they came to be here.

Pickle, the primitive man
who doesn't talk.

Here I am trying to have a conversation.

I'm not sure myself why I've come,
if you can't speak back to me.

But now that I am here,
I think I understand.

There is purpose to my visit.

[Pickle grunts]

Though you may not talk,
I reckon you can still hear.

I spoke freely, thank you for listening.

I've stayed long enough.

Hmm?

[gasps] Th… there he is!

Huh?

- [tense music playing]
- [officers gasping]

Well, you've been causing
a little too much fuss, samurai.

What kind of fuss would that be?

[Kuwata gasping]

[Musashi] Hmm?

Why, I've just been taking
a little stroll.

Any fuss around here
would be your own doing. [chuckles]

[Kuwata] Oh!

[whimpering softly]

Don't worry yourself now.

I won't run and I won't hide.

SHIBUKAWA-RYU AIKI JUJUTSU

[laughing heartily]

Look at the ba*ls on you!

Can't say I saw that one coming.

[laughing heartily] You really think
you're going to k*ll that monster?

I do. Somebody's gotta do it.

[Shibukawa] Listen, Baki.

Regardless of how extraordinarily vicious
your opponent actually is,

if you truly go through with it,
what do you really gain?

More importantly,
consider what you stand to lose.

Maybe your life.

You really think I should be worried?

Hadn't given it much thought.

[Shibukawa gasps]

I'll send him off,
then I'll take the time to reflect.

- [Shibukawa gasps]
- [air whooshing]

Saw that coming.

[laughing heartily]

I could say that about you too.

[dramatic music sting]

[Shibukawa gasps]

[gasping softly]

That's a dirty trick, old man.

[hesitating]

[scared whimpering]

[narrator] The night before
the decisive battle.

[suspenseful music playing]

[chuckling]

Even as you get ready
to face the unparalleled one,

you seem to be just your usual self.

What's more, I understand
that you've declared

you'll be sending the samurai
back to his grave.

I must say, sir.
I'm quite impressed with your grit.

Whoa! Wait. Wait.
Where the hell did you hear all that?

I mean, I'm surprised
that you know so much.

[chuckles] I'm just
a long-time secret fan of yours.

[Baki gasps]

The resurrected samurai is nothing to you.

I'll be eagerly awaiting

your safe return.

[crowd cheering, applauding]

Huh? What the hell?

Boy, what have you been doing?

I don't like being made to wait.

- [dramatic music sting]
- [Musashi groaning hungrily]

You little brat!
Did you eat it all? Baki?!

[music fades]

[Japanese theme music playing]

[music fades out]
