is moving right along.
We just got our suspension
parts back from powder coat,
And mike painted the
frame a matching green.
For the rest of the truck,
richard wants to keep
The old patina, and I think
that's the right call.
When I bought the truck,
I envisioned it
As being sort of this crusty,
beat-up hot rod truck,
Which would have
a fresh, new frame.
A nice looking engine,
a rebuilt suspension,
And really that's what
we're doing to it.
It was a back-burner job for me,
Until richard came by my shop.
This is a '33 ford
pickup, and actually--
That's where richard
fell pretty hard
For this '33 ford model b.
No kiddin'.i bought it for myself,
Just to build
as a shop truck.
This thing's pretty sweet,
and you know I like green.
Uh, oh, well, it's
not gonna be cheap.
Here's the tricky trick,
I've got an h&h flathead,
All built, in the box.
Well, that'd bolt right
in there, just about.
Mm-hmm.you're money's green here.
Hell, yeah.
$15,000 Later,
richard owns my truck,
And I get to build
it on his dime.
For me, that's like having
my cake and eating it too.
Plus, I'm remembering
why I fell in love
With this truck,
in the first place.
So, I hope richard doesn't
turn around and sell it.

this is a great deal for me.
Brian did the hard part
by finding the '33,
And pulling it out
of somebody's barn.
Plus, he's already got a
solid plan for it in his head.
That's why he's here, to
bring his vision to the build.
The fords that came out
in the early 1930s are what
Kicked off american hot-rodding
right after world w*r ii.
These had the first v8s
that just about anybody
Could afford and
modify as they saw fit.
The trucks had the advantage
that they could haul a*s,
As well as haul
just about anything else.

about keeping the '33
As a shop truck, but,
seeing the build come along,
I'm thinking it might
be worth a lot of money,
So, everything's for sale.

Because he's an artist,
but, y'all know me.
It's all about the benjamins.
What's the deal with the bed?
'Cause I saw it has a rip in it.
Yeah, the bed floor
is kinda trashed.
Brian: originally my idea
was to coat the bed
With some kind of liner, just to
Protect cargo from
the rust and crap.
But, I think it's
gonna be too cool
To be just a parts
hauler, or something
You throw dirty old
parts in the back,
But, that's a catch-22
because if it is
The hot rod shop truck,
we all get to maybe
Drive it every once in a while.
But, if it's too
cool for that then
It's gonna get
sold down the road
And we'll never see
it again, probably.
So yeah, that's a tough one.
What's that hole for?
You put a penny down there and
it starts the truck up.
Brian: richard set a
deadline of two weeks,
And gave us $10,000.
With the flathead
richard already bought,
And supposedly ready to bolt in,
That wouldn't be a big issue.
But, as soon as we uncrated it,
I realized we had a problem.
Uh, wait, this
isn't gonna bolt in to
Our truck the way it is.
No, that is not gonna fit
without
Changing some stuff.that sucks.
All we're trying to do is
get it on the engine stand.
That will work in
our truck, but,
To make it work in
our truck we have to
Change everything on
the front of the engine.
Water pumps, timing
cover, distributor.
All that stuff's in the way.
There's not enough room
to clear the radiator.
We're gonna change all
that to make it fit,
And that's gonna
add a lot of time, but,
This is the engine we
gotta use, we gotta do it.
Swapping out those parts
includes changing the cam,
Timing gear, and
the crank pulley.
This is a seven ton
job right here, man.
It takes a bunch of time,
and a little brute force.
So, this is the one
we took off,
This is the new one,
dye has to go outside.
I like the flathead ford motors,
I have one in my own
car, now I don't know
If I would have chosen
this exact engine.
But, that said, we're building a
very traditional hot rod pickup,
And I'm just stoked about that.

It has a higher gear
ratio that's a better match
To the power our flathead
should be putting out.

model b's top speed

The hubs and the
brakes in the rear.
Well, that's not right,
what's going on here?
The hub on one side
was rubbing bad,
But okay on the other,
so, I measured both sides
And somehow one axle was
shorter than the other.
How's that possible?
I don't see how it
could be any shorter.
Doesn't make any sense.
I'll double check
and measure it again.
Right at five inches,
And over here
we're at 4 and --
So, we're seven-eighths
difference.
How is that even possible?
We can put the engine
and transmission in it,
But if we have to take
the rear end back apart,
Then that's really
gonna slow it down.

They'll always be cool.
When we dragged this '33 ford
out of brian bass' shop,
We knew we had something cool.
We just didn't know
how cool at the time.
I'm gonna call mater,
and have him come get it

move to get it out of here.
That's not part of the deal.
I think these guys need to

Our initial plan was
to build a functional
Period-correct shop truck.
The first thing we
wanted to do was
Put some power into the truck.
So we replaced
that old tired motor
With a badass flathead v8 that
I had laying around the shop.
With this flathead v8,
we needed to get some
Carbs over to us that
could handle the power.
The strong bird '97 carburetor,
well it did just that.

Now, as far as the
exterior of the truck --
It looks so cool from
the get-go that for
The most part we wanted to
keep it just like that.
The classic look but with
a touch of hot rod cool.
You know, gas monkey style.
The original paint -- well, it
was patined into perfection
Which took nature years to make.
That being said, I wanted to
dress up the truck exterior
Just a bit, so we added a
little touch of nickel plating
To break up the patina.
That combined with the larger,
commercial headlights
We stole off a big truck,
and the paint we splashed
On the wheels, well, this
truck's really set off.
Keeping most of the original
look of the exterior
Was the right call,
but the rest of the truck
Was a different story.
We updated the chassis
and interior to make this
The most comfortable, badass
driving '33 truck around.
I've said it many times before,
I wish I could keep them all,
But I've also said many times
before that I gotta sell
These cars to keep
the business going.
So it'd be cool to
keep this '33 around
To use as a shop
truck, but you know
What's even cooler than that?
