We wrestle an iconic Japanese rally
car that is a little toy it needs a total
engine rebuild bits of metal everywhere
they should not be floating around in
there and a complete new look oh
that looks amazing but if we get this right
let me get a picture of that we
could be crowned king of the races.
I'm Mike Brewer and I've been buying
and selling cars for nearly 40 years
it's rattling noisy is utterly wonderful
now I'm set up shop in Britain's motor
inheritance heartland near Oxford I
can't stop smiling along with ex-formula 1
mechanic Mark Elvis Priestley come
on oh yeah together we're going to buy
love these me so do I and fix up
right down there me I'm fine the most
iconic and exciting cars on the market
why is it on a trailer hasn't run for 30
years 30 years with Elvis's engineering
skills oh my goodness what a mess and my
car dealing clout think you've been a
bit cheeky with your price we should be
able to make ourselves a tiny profit
customer week in the workshop so I've
treated Elvis to a corporate day out at
the London Ruddy school in business.
brilliant driving well done some
you can pedal would bring an Evo 7.
takes you back to the 90s of like
watching Tommy Mackinac win his four
World Championships in an Evo 3, 4, 5
and 6 and a 98 in one of the teams and the.
21 back then I don't feel it in a
moment sitting in beside you that might
you ever chase a bit on
the scene where's this thing.
and each one's gonna change
incrementally on the outside the way
it looks what hasn't changed
and I love it's under the body
I know mate in line 4,
276 horsepower, active
fuel control, thoughts
of 60, 5 seconds
it's also got enough rawness to keep
you connected to the road it's got that
turbo that you can constantly keep in
the power band and four-wheel drive
that you can play with on a track
surface like this to your heart's content.
I love it these things are just built
for the radicals are absolutely epic.
I love these cars I chase them around
for 11 years when I was doing a rally
championship that I watched the
evolution of the Mitsubishi I reckon the
seven is the sweet spot but was
you a Subaru fan or a Mitsubishi fan?
Oh that was always
the big question wasn't
it? I mean for me it
was always one of these
and do you know what
driving one in anger
like this absolutely
cements that in my mind.
Oh my goodness! Right, have you had
enough now? Have you enjoyed yourself?
That's so much fun mate I
could literally do that all day.
You drove fantastically yeah really
really impressive but now it's time to
stop the fun we need to get back to
the coal face because we've got work to
do. What a car, come on just one more
go no one more come on just got work.
brilliant though it was it wasn't just a
jolly for me and my petrol head partner
in crime I've got an ulterior motive
here we are home sweet home what's that
that is our little toy it's an evo 7
oh I'm excited this looks fantastic
see you didn't think I'd give you
that nice treat out this morning without
there being some kind of reward what
a car geez as well Elvis welcome to our
brand-new Mitsubishi evo 7 well
mate I knew you had something up your
sleeve I love this thing I mean good
to me this was every boy racers dream
wasn't it including mine after they
featured in the fast and furious movie
where'd you get it from then well
I found it online and I just had to
have it but I did my due diligence
first I checked made sure it was the
right car for us this is the first time
you've seen first time I've seen it and
it's a lot better than I was hoping
amazing what you pay for it six thousand
seven hundred and fifty pounds
I'm good at my job that good I mean is
there a catch yes there is a catch
it's a little thing down there if you
just lift it they see the bonnets
been pulled yeah look at that mate.
when you said you've done the
due diligence which bit of that didn't
include looking at the engine
there's half of it missing not only that it
looks like after engines been missing
for quite some time it's all rusty and on
top of that all the pistons are
misaligned which says there's
something major going on in the
bottom end you're only focusing on the
negative look at the positive flow
it's got a strut brace the top of the
suspension turrets not rusty that's
a weak point the thing that this car is
all about is that it's probably also
the most expensive bit of this car
that's why it was six thousand seven
hundred and fifty pounds but don't
worry about it right I spoke to the
guy it's just a comrade in it yeah but
the comm mods a fairly significant
part of that engine and when it goes it's a
pretty traumatic experience for a lump
like that but on top of that when they
break they can cause all sorts of
other damage down the bottom end it
might even have a hole in the block
for a wino are you smiling you're kind
of excited aren't you the thought of
pulling that apart and playing with it
you're excited okay of course I'm
excited because that engine when it's
running is a beautiful thing but that's
a long way from being running yeah
don't worry about that all we got to
do is put the bits on it it'd be fine what
bits oh yeah that's the other thing
come follow me hopefully the other half of
the engine everything you need to
put this car back together is there and if
there's something missing you know if
you need a new comm mod that's my job
I'll go out and get it for you
don't you worry I'm here to help I'll
do the heavy lifting all right because
look at the car it's dirty I'll clean
the glass I'll even clean this rear
spoiler all you got to do you got to put
that engine in just just that bit
yeah just that bit and push it obviously
we've got to get in the workshop
come on then that's it nice and straight.
you're right down there mate yeah
I'm fine I love that Mike's brought me a
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7 to work
on part of a great dynasty of ten
Lancers that ran over a production
run of 25 years and having just put one
through its paces in its natural habitat
I can testify to how good they are but
having found half of the two-litre
four cylinder turbocharged engine in the
boot this thing won't be winning
anything anytime soon it should be
capable of naught to sixty in five
seconds at a hundred and forty miles an
hour but right now it's little more than
a seven thousand pound paperweight.
now most of the top end seems to
be here the cylinder head the cover the
cams pulleys belts all of that but
the bit that worries most is the bit that's
still there in the engine bay the
bottom end I can already see from the
piston Heights that something's
seriously wrong and this car's a non
runner for a reason so I'm fully
expecting to find a complete disaster
when I get this out I've disconnected
the front suspension taking the drive
shafts out and take the remaining
pipes and hoses off so I can lift the car
off the engine right let's have a look
oh you're joking I had hope for the best
but there is a giant hole in the side
of this block what looks like a con
rod the bit that connects the piston
to the crankshaft punched its way right
through the casing of the engine
effectively that means this whole thing
is scrap what a disaster so I'm gonna
have to get Mike to start searching for
a new block something that won't
be cheap but in the meantime I want to
know exactly why that's happened
so I'm gonna start stripping it down and
having a look when a con rod or
connecting rod fails it's normally a.
result of the car being thrashed too
hard by an over enthusiastic driver
when they break the metal debris
can fly around the inside of the engine at.
such high speeds it can punch through
the strongest of engine blocks to find
out exactly how much damage has
been done I need 360 degree access that
does not sound good let's get the
sump off we can have a look inside see
what's rattling around let's see
what we find in here oh my goodness
me what a mess oh look at that that is
the offending con rod down in here which
has snapped there are bits of metal
oh my goodness look at that there's just
bits of metal everywhere they
should not be floating around in there
goodness me it's everywhere that is an
absolute disaster zone now what's quite
common on these is that the big
end bearing can seize fast on the
crankshaft and the comrades got nowhere
to go and it snaps whatever the reason
for this engines bottom end failure it's
absolute scrap we got no choice but to
somehow find a replacement with
so few of these cars and their parts still
available I don't even know if Mike's
gonna be able to find one yes we
bought ourselves a Mitsubishi Evo
7 with an engine which was in bits
everything you need to put this
car back together is there and after
finding a giant hole in the engine
block Elvis has been forced to scrap it
and that's get Mike start searching
for a new one of these Evo engines and
notoriously hard to come by but I
think I've come up Trump's I found a
secondhand Evo engine that was taken
in by a garage just down the road and
they were happy to sell
it to me for 750 pounds.
hello mate how you doing I come
bearing gifts nice I like these kind
of gifts looks all right that's
brilliant I honestly thought you'd
struggle there and it's got no hole
in the side no sorry about that yeah
that's great do you know what I
was thinking look at it this guy's kind of
a plain Jane and I was watching one
of these Hollywood films where there
was a green one with all these
graphics on the side we're not going
lime green I don't want to go lime
green but I am thinking maybe that's
the section of the market we should
be attacking I reckon we can get this car
sold a bit quicker doing that what
by changing its appearance to suit
that marketplace well I'm not saying
go too mad you don't think we're gonna
narrow the market by doing no I think
we're gonna attack a specific part of
the market the people that want
that all-out sort of drift car look you
know Henry the rapper he's always
up for a bit of creativity so why don't I
get him down to do some designs
okay well let's see what he's got to say
and if we're gonna start thinking
about revamping its appearance and we
are gonna start targeting that
street racing and drifting market well I
think we should think about upgrading
the suspension to totally agree I think if
we get some more power out this car
we're gonna need better suspension anyway
and for drifting it wants to be a
little bit of a different setup so yeah
I'll sort that perfect nice
right then I'll get this together
lovely see you later Mike
could be onto something with his
street racer idea the Evo is a classic
drifting and street racing car which is
often customized inside and out the
UK modified car scene is huge an annual
event held at Santa pod raceway
saw over 400,000 people attend over the
course of a weekend to appeal to that
market will need our Evo to stand out
from the crowd but first we need to
sort some power now that our Evos
original engine is on the scrap heap
the second-hand one that Mike found is
a stroke of luck but I still need to
give it the once-over in case it has
any issues now this is a second-hand
engine and like most engines of this
nature it's probably had an absolute
hammering over the course of its life so
I want to make sure that it's in
a decent condition and that it will
provide a good basis for the engine
that we want to build up and to do that
there's some vital checks I want
to do first already that's a massive
improvement there's no loose bits
floating about inside the first thing I
want to check is that the engine
bearings haven't worn out Evo's guzzle
oil and need regular top-ups every four
and a half thousand miles and not every
owner does that so who knows
what state the bearings will be in I'm
starting with a big end bearings
which are located as their name
suggests at the big end of the
con rods where they connect to the.
crankshaft with the protective covers
off I'm winding the pistons to their
lowest position and locking them in
place before loosening off the end cap.
right with a big end cap out the way I
can get access to inspect the bearings
if I carefully lift that bearing shell
out okay that looks in really good Nick
actually there's no signs of obvious
wear there's no discoloration from
overheating it looks really good now
you can just replace these as a matter
of course but in doing so you don't
have to go through the process of
running in your engine again as
if it were brand new and you can
potentially introduce problems that
way so given that this looks so good I'm
inclined to put it back in right let's
check the other side of the bearing
now very carefully pushing the
piston down you'll be really careful of the
surfaces both on the crankshaft and
the bearing so that you don't scratch
them that's really important so after
I've pushed the piston all the way to
the bottom as it is now actually
the top of the engine it now gives me
scope to push the Conroy over to
one side I can then rotate the crankshaft
out the way get access to that other
half of the bearing I'm using a torch.
which will help me identify any
signs of scratching or scoring on the
bearings I'm really pleased to say
the big end bearing is looking great
shape I'm really happy with that
I'm going to start putting them back
together making sure that the shells
go back in exactly the same way in the
same locations and in the same
rotation I'll put them back together
with a little bit of oil as well that's
crucial the big end bearings are fine
but our Evo engine also has five main
bearings which hold the crankshaft in
place to get to them I need to
remove the whole bearing cradle okay
the bearing shells have come
out with the carrier which makes it
slightly easier oh dear that one
has definitely got signs of wear oh my
goodness this one here on the end
is completely worn through the surface
coating of the bearing shell it's a
complete end of the engine it's got
some pretty bad signs I'm just going
to check the crankshaft dear oh dear.
it's these three here that's showing
the signs on the bearing shells if you
just drag your fingernail across the
crankshaft journal you can actually.
feel the surface is slightly uneven
that's a sign of wear this one here is the
one with the scoring in fact I can
see corresponding school Mark on the
crankshaft that's no good I can't
live with that that's got to be dealt
with the surface across that bearing
when it starts to wear becomes uneven
and therefore the loading is not evenly
spread and you start to build up hot
spots and eventually the end result
can be well we've all seen what the
end result can be because that's
what happened to the first engine I've got
to get the crankshaft out I take it
somewhere they can Polish that out worst
case it might need a regrind or
even worse than that a complete new
crankshaft that would set us back
around 500 pounds something we want to
avoid at all costs so I'm hoping I'll
be able to Polish out all that wear
and tear it's something I
can't do here in the workshop
so I'm heading 45 minutes
down the road to Milton Keynes.
grinding and polishing crankshafts
requires a particularly special piece of
kit which is why I've come to
the specialist engineering firm to
hopefully get this one sorted morning
sure morning Elvis do me all right good
you can I make my way through yeah
you know the machine is help yourself
thanks buddy it is this crankshaft
polishing machine works a bit like a
lathe and will rotate the crankshaft at
up to 30 rpm making it easier to get a
uniform finish as I Polish out the
scratches now running nice and true in
the machine now what I want to do is
measure it this is a micrometer that's
going to do the job and I've got a
book here with all of our tolerances
in now the tolerance of the main
journals on this crankshaft is six
tenths of a thousandth of an inch that's
not very much half the thickness of a
human hair it's absolutely crucial
though that these things are set up to
those fine tolerances so look at that
so two point two four three five two
two point two four four one so we're
actually right bang in the middle of
the tolerance zone I mean that's
good because that means that we can in
theory now Polish out any imperfections
on the surface here without taking off
any material without having to use the
grinding wheel and by doing that even
if we take off a tiny amount with
polishing we should still be within the
tolerance that's good news a
quick check tells me that those other
journals are also within tolerance so
this crankshaft is reusable as long as
we Polish out those score marks
it's not too bad so we can actually do it
with some fairly fine grit some Emery
paper 400 grit which won't take too
much material off and therefore
should mean that we don't fall outside of
that tolerance zone on the crankshaft
measurements little bit of lubrication
on there right in position
and then start it up.
just going back and forwards reasonably
fast so you can hear that noise it's
actually the the grit on the paper
just cutting into the surface very.
finely hopefully remove all those
nasty score marks I'm working to such
minute tolerances I need to really
take my time and keep checking as I go
the last thing I want to do is take off
too much metal right when you see
it starts to look very different I'm
just gonna give it a little clean up
with a polishing cloth get rid of
the oil oh yes I'm really pleased with
that it's come up perfect I'm such
a relief because we've had a roller
coaster of a ride with this Evo a
run of bad luck but hopefully now the
tides turning this thing is
recoverable and looking great another
hours work and the crankshaft will be
good as new and I can reassemble the
engine that Mike found before putting
it into the car the Evo seven may have
been a rallying great back at the
turn of the century but today it appeals
just as much to the streetcar
market I know modded car fans will
spend big money on the right
car if it's got the right look so I've
invited vinyl car rapper Henry
round to see if he can show me some
potential rap designs for our Evo
that's such a cool design how'd you get on
yeah really good really good I managed
to Polish out all the score marks from
the crankshaft so it's good to go
when it put it back in the engine
lovely well Henry has brought down
a selection of different designs for the.
Evo what do you think that's mad
could you put anything on the side of a.
car anything so you put my face on
the side of your face on the side of.
I come out of here tonight and someone's
done that to my car go mad on the
bonnet on the bonnet of his
car that mate is absolutely crazy
you know the sky's the limit with
a final wrap in it tell me out of all
of these the one that you would
like a bit of a color tweak maybe but
you know yeah yeah yeah no I saw
you know I quite like that one exactly the
I think it needs to be tweaked in
terms of having a brighter color just flash
through it yeah but I think that's
the kind of design I would go for yeah
would you settle on that Henry to
be honest this is just a taster oh wow.
that's incredible that's the one isn't
it I can already imagine that on the
side of our car you know that looks
amazing yeah what's up on that one
about can you do it here or does it
need to come to your shop no no we.
I have set us off down the road of a
niche but potentially lucrative market
for this car I just hope someone
likes our look enough to buy it.
yeah look at that there's half of it
missing we bought ourselves a cut-price
Mitsubishi Evo 7 and have been
battling with some serious engine
issues oh my goodness this one here
is completely worn through it's got to.
be dealt with thankfully those worries
are behind us now oh yes I'm really.
pleased with that it's come up
perfect and Mike has hatched a plan to
sell this car into the modified
streetcar market we've commissioned an
outrageous vinyl wrap but before we
get into that I need to make sure the
car's performance is on point in
1996 when the Evo 4 came out they
introduced a system called active your
control it's a brilliantly clever system
which uses three main components
and ECU situated inside the car an active
differential under here and up here a
hydraulic pump now in our car you can
see it's heavily corroded it's
damaged it's really not in good shape
and that's pretty typical of these
cars because of where it's situated right
underneath the left-hand rear wheel
arch it's exposed to water and salt and
dirt and stones and all sorts of other
things so because of the state that
it's in on our car I'm going to take it
off and replace it active your control
is a type of active rear differential
that helps to provide maximum
traction to individual rear wheels
according to sensors which monitor both
the car and the driver's input
in a rally car like this it serves to
enhance grip and unlock the car's
maximum cornering potential now this is
our AYC or active your control pump
you can see what state it's in it's heavily
corroded and these things fail a lot
so much so that I'd be amazed if any of
the Evo is currently on the road
haven't at some point in their life had
issues with this the bits that fail
most commonly are the solenoids down
here or the electric motor up here
now you can't buy these components
individually from Mitsubishi you
can send it away to be refurbished with
aftermarket components but it's
expensive well over a thousand pounds
for me I feel like it's worth spending
the extra money around 1600 pounds and
buying a complete new unit from
Mitsubishi maybe a lot of money but
I've got myself a genuine Mitsubishi
pump and that's my old electrical
harness but rather than put it back in
exactly the same place in which case
it would probably suffer the same
fate the common solution to this problem
having been on the Evo forums is to
move it from this wheel arch up inside
the boot moving the pump will mean
rerouting the hydraulic lines which
connect the pump to the diff so I'm
stripping them out same goes for the
electrical wiring now this is such a
common solution to this problem you
can actually buy a kit online to
do the job which is exactly what I've
done it comes with its own bracket
now that will then mount on these big
rubber mounts here to take any
vibration out of it and that is going
to be the first job as the pump will
be sitting in a much higher position I.
also have to move the transmission
fluid reservoir up to ensure gravity
can do its job and keep feeding the
pump once the reservoirs repositioned
it's time to drop our pump into its
new home so that's the old original
electrical harness now connected up to
the system and to the new pump and the
next job it's going to be to cut down
these reservoir hoses a quick snip will
shorten the hoses but the hydraulic
lines which run from the pump all the
way under the cast of the diff now
need to go further to reach the boot
so they'll need to be replaced
luckily my kit comes with some new
hydraulic lines I'm attaching the new
lines to the pump and feeding them
down underneath the car so I can
connect them to the diff and there it
is our brand new active your control
hydraulic pump tucked away in a new
location well out the way of the
constant punishment of UK roads I've
still got to trim the carpet around it
and maybe box it in to make it look
nice but it should have many more
years of active service in its new
location Elvis is making good progress
in the workshop and while he cracks on
I'm out on another buy-in trip to help
boost our Evos performance that Evo.
it's thrown up quite a few nasty
surprises hopefully though we've now.
turned the corner I want to make sure
we can harness that potential and get
this car driving as it should do and
that means sorting out the suspension
to make sure that that
Evo well it handles properly.
I'm headed to Gas Shocks in Essex
they manufacture a wide range of
adjustable dampers and suspension
kits for the road and motorsport market
and everything is built right here on
site I'm meeting with Byron who is a
suspension guru Byron how are you buddy
good to see you good to see you I hope
you can help me out because I need
some Springs I bought a rather tasty.
Mitsubishi Evo 7 nice car and it can
do lots of things that current can go
on track it gone gravel or just
drive compliantly on the road so I'm
gonna need a shot that does all of
those things okay this is basically a
monotube set up for yes I've been
w-30 so you've got a drop of ride
height and dampening this damper so
you can stick it on and set up for what you
use it for right so you've got the the
shock inside and then this spring on
the outside but you can fully adjust
the ride height yep and then you can
adjust the stiffness by turning this
knob correct yeah and that controls the
bump and rebound characteristics
of the damper a bump is basically the
compression of them huh so
that's when it squeezes on it and the
rebound is just extension so bump and
rebound okay well I'm gonna need you to
help me out so can I build them yeah
follow me lovely a damper or shot is a
hydraulic system designed to absorb any
suspension movement caused by lumps and
bumps in the road to give it a
smoother ride it's a complex piece of
kit and all that magic happens inside
this outer body the first part to go in
is a hollow cap tube which the oil
will flow through when the damper rod
is extended so next you want to
take gas cells that these two little bags
of gas yeah what these used for these
go inside the damper when the dam is
extended so it's full extension these
take up the cavitation of the air base
the empty space yeah that's a
great idea isn't it so next we take the
pressure tube which is the last of
the tube and that goes in right yeah
that's in so next you want to
take the oil you want to fill out the
main tube the outer tube first and
then let it flow into the pressure tube
about an inch or two inches below
the top of the pressure tube how's that
happy oh I don't know you tell me
you're the yeah hang on hang on now you
want to take your piston rod this
is gonna go inside that tube is it
pressure tube right yeah how far
down do I send it you wanna go all
the way in until that check stop is
just below the top of pressure tube.
got it that's it lovely the final parts
are a rod guide which slides over
the top of the piston rod then an
o-ring and finally the top nut which
once Titan finishes the assembly I could
do this for a living you know I could it
there's something so satisfying
about this it's lovely isn't it
there's a damper and that is a
finished damper how about that before
leaving the workshop the guys here
test all their dampers on a dyno which
simulates road conditions and gives
detailed readings on the bump and
rebound okay what's yet we've got
your damper here on the rig to test
out make sure it's working correctly
oh there you go it's going through the
motions now like we're doing a car
for you this is extreme but it's just to.
get a trace of the damper and see
where we're at our lovely terms of
the bump and rebound of the dampers
we've got yeah and 150 pound rebounds
yeah it's roughly about where you
will be for everyday drive what if I want
to go rallying and I want to get
loose so what you do unwind that
clockwise you go to full soft then
maybe go to plus two or three clicks
that'll be where you want to be
for rallying less resistance and it will
roll nice over the tarmac and loose gravel
60 pound bump and 75 pound rebound
that's softest sitting is so now
the other way right I want to go on a
track I don't want any body roll so
I need to suspension really stiff so.
they will want it up to go roughly
around there and then that should be a
lot stiffer so when we go on the
track like you say less body roll so
that's perfect for on the track that is
absolutely amazing so I've now got.
spring that can cope with any
environment I want to put it in
fantastic I really appreciate your
time today I can't wait to get them
screwed to the car a couple of days
later Mike has dropped off the new
shocks and I'm ready to get them
on the car I have to say Mike's done a.
good job here these look really nice
and they should transform the car's.
handling fitting them couldn't
be easier one bolt at the top of the
diff for less body roll within half an
hour I'm done just in time as Henry's
here with our bespoke street racer
inspired vinyl wrap Elvis how are you.
yeah fine thanks yourself yeah
good it's looking well it's looking really
well it's good it's had a fully
rebuilt engine suspensions now
completely up rated too and I'm
hoping that what you've got in that box is
gonna help transform the looks we shall
see set yourself up on the bench over.
there mate and we'll get it all apart
get it well Henry thanks so much for
getting this done mate I mean
this looks great it's enormous is it the
same stuff is it the same material
that you know people might be familiar
with with little stickers that you
know you get on your back you're like
similar it's in the same family but
this also has a laminate on it okay
so it protects from the UV lights
and the wear and tear so what's the
process because I imagine you can't
just peel it off and stick it straight on.
now there's gonna be some prep to
the car there's a surface clean that I use
it's alcohol based basically just
takes off all the dirt that's already on
there and then once we've done
that we'll then we'll tuck wipe it and then
we'll tape up the tires as well
yeah let's get it on I'll give you a
hand to clean it cleaning is everything
when it comes to a vinyl wrap the first
stage is to wipe the car down with
Henry's cleaning solution which is two
parts alcohol from one part water any
trace of grease oil or wax on the body
work will greatly reduce the adhesion
of the vinyl and may leave bubbles
beneath the surface of the wrap so
the whole car needs a once-over so
what's the craziest car you've ever
wrapped in me before I California oh
yeah nice car what do they want to
do into it a pixelated print what like
in as in little pixel squares all
over it all over it all multi-coloured as
well next we go over the whole
car with a tack wipe a special cloth
designed to remove loose particles
of dust dirt and lint that would show
through the vinyl that's cleaned it's
tack wipes you've now covered up the
wheel so I'm gonna be ready to
stick it on no no first we've got to
position it using magnets before we
take the backing paper off so you're
gonna hold it up against the side and
just tuck it with magnets what to make
sure it fits and then we trim out
what we don't need okay well I'll give
you how to get it lined up we've
gone all out with this elaborate
complicated design and once we
start laying it there's no turning back so
getting everything lined up
perfectly is absolutely vital.
all right so there you go that's all
the pieces on a minute it looks looks
like the picture I mean we're ready
now this is my girl where do I start.
we'll start the bucket wrapping
the cars of whisk and won't be to
everyone's taste but my it's
convinced that this will open up our
Evo to the streetcar
market I just hope he's right.
our Mitsubishi Evo 7 has
been on an incredible journey
inside and out and I can't
wait to show it off to Mike.
mate that is just unbelievable it looks
good oh wow you and Embry have
knocked that out the park look at
that wrap what a transformation a that
is a sight that looks fantastic mate I
wasn't a hundred percent convinced I
was gonna like it I love it it's
exactly the look we were going for it's
a ready car for the road that's
exactly what we wanted I just can't wait
to get this out there those forums
the modified car forms are gonna go.
nuts for that that looks it looks
like it's ready for the oh no pound it
pound it pound it pound it
boom seriously Elvis that is that is
fantastic what great work I mean you
remember when this car was dropped
off it all that was tucked away I
know you've told me about a thousand
times look you've done Elvis that is
fantastic wait till you hear it Oh Elvis
your work look at the radiator the air
filter come on then are you ready yeah.
that is that is just fantastic I gotta
get pictures and get it out there let me
get a picture of you standing next
to the car I'll put that on the I'll put
some pictures down the side isn't it
amazing oh mate I'll tell you what you've
absolutely crushed it I just can't wait
to get back beyond the wheel again I
mean that day at the rally school
that's got me absolutely hooked on these
things and this one sounds and
now looks incredible well now I've got
some good pictures I'll get those
loaded up I'm gonna get this sold all
right I'll give it a final Polish yes
when I bought it and Mitsubishi evo 7
came with an engine that was in bit
yeah look at that mate when you said
you've done the due diligence which
bit of that didn't include looking at the
engine our need for speed was anything
but straightforward I have to get Mike
to start searching for a new one of
these but Elvis's mechanical know-how
it's going back and forwards hopefully
we'll remove all those nasty score
marks and my immaculate eye
for design that's the one isn't it that
looks amazing have combined to
leave our evo looking and sound in like a
totally different beast but how much
has this massive transformation set us
back I bought the car for six thousand
seven hundred and fifty pounds online
the replacement engine cost seven
hundred and fifty quid adjustable
dampers were one thousand and
sixty four the new your control pump was
sixteen hundred and the mounting
kit was three hundred and forty seven
finally vinyl rat set us back 1986
given us a hefty total spend of twelve
thousand four hundred and ninety
seven but what we're left with is something
which will appeal to the lucrative
street racing scene and with that in
mind I've set us up for
a night's drive around
the UK's street cruising
capital Birmingham.
ending up a modified car me
where we can show off our Evo.
yeah that's enough that's enough
we're in the city remember so let's be
responsible but that's good isn't it
he's made when the city empties out and
you get the roads all to yourself
there's nothing better than the
nighttime cruise it's flipping cool
isn't it and how much does it suit
this car under the floodlights we
think about all those fast and furious
movies I mean that's
exactly the setting that cars
like this were meant to
be in I love it check this out.
that is really good engine feels
really strong the suspension feels nice
and firm everything that this
car should feel we got all 276
horsepower to play with yeah Henry I
smashed it he smashed it week is such
a challenge anyway take a ordinary
blue Evo and give us something special and
from where it started to where it is
now transformation water transformation
I mean my goodness this is special
I've got a slight concern that it's
specialist and we are looking for a
very specific buyer but whoever that
buyer is they are gonna be well
happy with this car because it's
striking look it feels good it sounds
great and it goes like stinky don't
worry about the fire I've told you
that we are targeting a marketplace fact
we're almost where we need to go so
are we going have you ever been to a
modified car me I've been to one or
two in my time yet and there's one not
too far away you see you see this
next exit coming up on the left yeah
you take that one make me feel 17
again we are going to be the oldest.
people there you do know that here
come the granddad's taking me down some
dodgy old streets here what Elvis
doesn't know is that I've lined up a
buyer a fella called James loved
the pictures of our Evo I posted online.
I've asked him to come along to the
modified car me and I'm hoping I can
shake his hand on a deal and this
looks right at home here doesn't it
really does hey Wow oh yeah I
like this this is exactly where this car.
should be in it look at this mx-5 look
at the work that's gone into that yeah
that's got some detail in there isn't
it fantastic and he doesn't love but
that's in 240 Z look at the color of it
it's like how you doing James James
nice to meet you Elvis yeah really
good mate this is a great little car
show how nice is this
yeah great yeah turn out
fantastic what do you think it looks
amazing yeah you sent him all the
pictures in that yeah I sent you all
the details all the pictures I wanted
you to first of all hear it did you
see I heard you coming in yeah no it
sounds lovely looks brilliant the
rads really stands out love it it's had a
full ground-up engine rebuild
suspension upgrade as well which is it
sits nice active your control move the
active your control pump into the boot
from underneath the wheel arch where
it gets a battering the grid yeah great
yeah a real piece of resistance I
think is the graphic that's down the side
yeah and I love it it was knocked
out apart by a friend Henry who's done
an amazing job on the car yeah
looks brilliant that really stands out yeah
super makes it different so why an
evo about a couple in the past and not
me able to afford one since so now
I'm in a position to get one that's what
I'm after so why specifically a
seven it's just the first of that newer
shape it's just the more refined than
the older ones just a much better car
all around so this is the one for
me yes well this is a car we put our
heart and soul into and I know with
the work that he's done to it we can sell.
this car quite easily I'm asking I
think a very fair price as well I just
want 15 grand for it so what do you
think yeah absolutely I think you're.
fair at that and I'll take it really
absolutely no not at all just put.
yourself a cracking time I should
have asked you for more money.
when I found out Evo on the
Internet the bit that makes it special the
engine was in the boot but after some
incredible work from Elvis not only on
the engine but the suspension in your
control and that graphic by Henry we
knocked it out the park and we turned
out a great car and a great profit and
that car sits happily within this
crowd and I know James is going to
enjoy it for many years to come if
you want to see more iconic cars like
this Evo being turned
around by me and Elvis
then join us again soon
on Wheeler dealers.
