17x08 - Unbreakable

Post by bunniefuu »

There is absolutely
nothing in this challenge

that will make me tap out.

Twenty years ago, I
fell off a 68-foot cliff.

I broke 46 bones, and
the doctor's prognosis

is that I would
never walk again.

Not only do I walk...

I ride.

I have ridden myself into a 15-year
stunt riding career with Cavalier.

There is nothing
that could physically

break me on this challenge more

than I have already been broken.

Tapping out is not
an option, period.

I'm just not sure anybody
can survive here for 21 days.

Oh, my God.

Two strangers...

Go, go, go!

Oh, God.

No food.

Come on!

No water.

Don't tap.

Die first.

Naked and Afraid.

Finally here in Colombia,
the back of the truck.

Headed on in.

This is crazy.

I consider myself like
an amateur herpetologist.

So anything, herbs, you
know, amphibians, reptiles,

all kinds of stuff like
that. Snakes, turtles.

Check out me and my man.

What's up, boy?
Tell 'em what's up.

I do create content.

My name on my content
is Salamander God.

Snakes and the
reptiles and amphibians,

they're misunderstood,
like, there's a disconnect

with how the media
represents them,

which makes you
think they're nasty.

But I'm just trying to present
them in a different light,

showing you how beautiful
and cute they could be.

-You get a picture?
-He got me.

That was good.

I've never ever
k*lled a snake before.

I'm the person
that stops traffic

and gets the snake off
the road kind of thing.

But I I could k*ll
snake out here.

I'm not gonna be happy about it.

But, you know, food is food.

In terms of survival, I
know how to build shelters.

Fires, I'm really good at.

I consider myself a
very good fisherman.

And I was a hunter growing up.

I'm ready to take on
this 21-day challenge

to show what I'm
really capable of.

I definitely have a big ego.

I'm gonna come
off strong at first,

but eventually you'll love me.

Where is the water?

I have not seen any water yet.

It's a little concerning,
especially with the heat.

Do you wanna see my rain dance?

It goes like this.

I just made that up.

I grew up on an Angus cow farm.

I was always outside.

I was very outdoorsy.

As for survival, I am very
confident in my shelter building.

My fire making
skills are on point,

and I love pushing
my body to the limits.

But after my accident, I
had to redefine who I was.

And that's when I
rekindled my love for horses.

And being a stunt rider,

I had the opportunity
to join Cavalier,

which was just such a
blessing to be able to take,

you know, my circumstances,
overcome them,

and then be that
inspiration for other people.

I'm taking on the

because I've overcome
some really great

physical obstacles in my life, and
that's what this challenge is about.

Twenty years ago,
I was unbreakable,

and 20 years
later, I still believe

I have that unbreakable spirit.

All right. Looks
like we're here.

Being naked out here is
gonna be a little weird at first.

I'm sure I'm gonna forget
about it quick, but it's just a body.

So I have no problem
with being naked.

All right.

Here we go.

So I'm a plant based eater.

Yes, I guess, technically vegan.

So it's gonna be a
challenge out here.

I really hope to be
able to find some fruits.

Maybe roots.

I really hope that I
can stay true to it.

And we'll see when
we get out there.

Okay.

Colombia.

Wow.

Here we go.

equator in central Colombia

lies Caño Selva, a vast area of sun
scorched grasslands and dense jungles,

inundated with over 100
inches of rain each year.

The region is home to 300 lb wild
tapers and deadly rattle snakes.

But it's the puma
that reigns supreme.

These ambush predators are armed
with powerful jaws and razor sharp canines,

capable of severing the
spine with one fatal bite

to the back of the neck.

-Hey.
-Hey, partner.

-Hey, how you doing?
-I'm so good.

-How are you?
-Good.

I'm Fairland.

-Keenan.
-Keenan?

-Yeah.
-Fun.

-How do you feel?
-I feel great.

Feel confident. What about you?

I do, too. I mean, it's day one.

So confidence is easy to
have, like, in this moment.

-For sure.
-Let's get rolling.

Dude, the the heat is intense.

Wanna get some shade?

Are those our bags?

Yeah, looks like it.

-Yeah.
-I guess, yeah. Okay.

Let's get 'em.

We got it.

It's hot.

All right. What'd you bring?

-I got a mosquito net.
-Yes.

-Keep the bugs off.
-Dude.

And I have our knife.

And a firestarter and a pot.

Oh, thank you, Colombia.

-Thank you.
-You wanna take the firestarter?

Yeah. I'll take the firestarter.

I'll take the pot.

Do you have the
map? Because I do.

I do have the map.

So yeah, this is us.

Um, it looks like that way.

-There's like a...
-Small water source.

- All right, Well, let's do it.
- Let's get out the heat.

-The blazing sun.
-All right, let's go.

Don't worry. I'm warding
off all the snakes for you.

Don't do that.

I just want to see 'em.

-Are you outdoors a lot or like, what's your...
-Yeah.

-I'm outdoors all the time.
-Really?

You know, from fishing, hiking.

Do a lot of hiking and camping.

A skilled outdoorsman,
Keenan's physical strength

and knowledge of venomous
snakes should be an advantage,

but his love for reptiles
could be his downfall.

He begins with a PSR
for primitive survival rating

of 6.1.

What about you?
Are you big outdoors?

Um, yeah, I mean, so
I work on a horse farm,

and so I'm outdoors
all day in the heat.

So those are definitely
like strong suits.

Yeah.

Fairland's resilience
in the face of adversity

gives her an edge,

but her vegan diet
could prove challenging

in this environment.

She starts with a PSR of 5.9.

Twenty years ago, I
had a really bad accident.

I fell off a cliff.

What the...

So I broke 46 bones and I
had to learn to walk again.

-They told me that I probably never would.
-That's insane.

And so just to come back
out and kind of, you know...

-Reclaim that.
-Reclaim that. Right.

-Right. So, here I am...
-Get in the jungle.

-...walking naked with you.
-Hell yes.

I am predominantly
a plant based eater.

-Really?
-I'm going to try to stick

to fruits and plants and
we'll see how it goes.

- Fairland is awesome.
- She's hard core.

She doesn't eat meat.

I got a lot of respect for it,

but I'm definitely hoping
to get some protein.

It just got real.

Yeah.

-At least it's cooler in here.
-Yeah, a lot cooler.

But we'll see how the
bugs treat us in here.

Let's see if we hear
any running water.

I'm just trying to see if
I can hear some water.

If there are any signs of water.

It's getting more
damp, more moist.

I mean, feeling like
I do hear something.

I know, but I'm like,
is it in my head or is it,

like, actually something?

-Okay.
-Huh?

-Yeah.
-Shut up! I hear it.

-That is not in my head.
-No.

♪ Hallelujah ♪

-Found the water.
-Shut up.

It's a big river.

That looks beautiful.

Hey, it's clear here.

Is it clear where
you are, Keenan?

I'm coming your way.

All right, Keenan, I'm
coming down towards the river.

Headed towards you.

Water.

Did you have better
access to water?

It's a little deeper over there.

Faster moving.

The thing is, like, right up
here, there's like a clearing.

Let's go check it out.

And then we can just
kind of clear it all more.

I don't know. What do you think?

It's kind of close to the water.

So you like it?

I was thinking about bugs,
but we have our mosquito net.

What are your thoughts on, like,

let's use this guy,
this guy and that guy.

It's already in
the ground for us.

So if we did like a raised
bed and then four walls,

and then put the
mosquito net over top.

Yeah, something
like that could work.

And then fire, just
like, right there.

Yeah. No, I do like this.

This is nice. This
is our little point.

Clear out some of these.

Yeah. Okay.
Let's get on it then.

Are we both gonna do
the shelter right now?

What about firewood? Should
one of us look for firewood?

-We can divide and conquer.
-I say we just keep moving.

-Keep going.
-Start going.

-Yeah. And just start making what we can make.
-Okay.

That's a good straight post.

If you want to clear
everything out of the area

that you're gonna be living
in just to kind of deter bugs

and other critters from
like being in this space.

So clear this area for our fire

and get going
because with no fire,

you have bugs, and with
no fire, you have no of water.

And... I love water.

So let's get to work.

How are you at fire starting?

-I'm pretty good.
-Are you?

Yeah. You ready
to... Do you have this?

Yeah. I mean, I can cut cordage.

I know you've been
doing kind of a lot of...

-whatever.
-Yeah.

I mean, everything's
so wet, though.

-There's that.
-Cool.

I love Keenan. He's optimistic.

We're communicating well, you
know, neither of us are super pushy.

Come on. Catch, catch,
catch, catch, catch.

Everything is a
bit damp in here,

so it's a little bit concerning
with making a fire,

but we have quite a few
hours before it gets dark.

So hoping to kind of knock this
out and get somewhere situated.

Come on.

g*dd*mn it!

It's okay. I believe in you.

I turned around and saw flame.

-I was like, yes!
-It was close.

You'll get it.

Another long stick. I'm just
trying to get all the supplies here.

Just in case we
run out of daylight.

At least I have
everything in front of me.

And the fact that
Keenan and I can't...

get this going, it's
like, mildly concerning.

-Still working on it?
-Fine.

Just nothing. Nothing stays lit.

There you go. There you go.

Man, it's like burning,
but it just burns nothing.

Yeah. Lemme try.

Just walk away
from it for a while.

Do we want to just...

-Start with the shelter.
-Right. Like, let's finish it,

make our roof If the fire is
going to beat us for today

like, maybe just be
like, you know what?

Fine.

-We can hunt more tomorrow.
-Yeah.

Yeah, so at least we don't
have, like, no fire and no shelter.

Pretty brutal first day.

Terrible.

There's so many bugs.
The bugs, the bugs.

Even with this mosquito net,
we need to get better coverage.

Hopefully get a
flipping fire started.

But... Ow!

Okay, I'm done with the camera.

It's just...

Whoo! That rain is cold.

- The sun just came up.
- Thank goodness.

It was literally the worst
night of sleep we've ever had.

Ever.

-And by night of sleep, we mean never sleep.
-Ever. Terrible.

The worst night of my life.

We never got our fire going and our
bug net didn't, like, cover everything.

So we just got
eaten alive all night.

These are the bug bites.

This is what it looks
like all over my body.

So fire is the goal for the day.

And we are
re-assessing our shelter.

So our plan is to
get rid of all the sticks

because it was
super uncomfortable.

Clear this area below
and sleep on dirt.

But so that the mosquito
net can fall all the way down.

We're gonna leave our roof.
Our roof actually worked great.

It rained all night and
we didn't get wet at all.

So no fire, no water, no food.

Day two.

We're doing great.

Last night was pretty bad.

Like, no sleep.

But I'm sure once I get some
food and a fire, it'll feel a lot better.

You think this
stuff's gonna light?

Yeah, I don't think
so. You know, I mean,

you and I could not be
throwing better sparks to it.

I don't get it.

I didn't really expect
it to go like this.

I mean, it's only been two
days and we're struggling,

- like, we shouldn't be.
- I mean,

I don't know how long you
can last out here without a fire.

This is what happens every time.

As much as they're like
abundance of resources

in a way, like, nothing's dry.

And so, it is just not igniting.

So I'm looking for just
some drier, drier material

to make fire
building a little easier.

Something super,
super fine and dry.

Trying to start a fire,

it might be the
most frustrating thing

I've ever been through

and that was never something
that I was concerned about.

There's some tinder down here.

This stuff over here
was baking in the sun.

Super thin.

That's what they.

I know it got wet yesterday,
but it's been direct sunlight.

And it's dry.

Oh, this stuff is money.

-Look at this.
-What?

Well, I guess you can't
really see it from that far.

Is that that hairy stuff?

I think it was a leaf, yeah.

-Fire catchable?
-Yeah.

-Yeah.
-Think so.

Oh, you don't have a fire.

All righty.

Do the right thing
and catch on fire.

Come on!

That almost was it.

Hell, yeah.

Started burning.

Come on.

Come on, baby.

We finally got a
fire and it feels good.

It feels really, really good.

Tomorrow we start
looking for food.

Get some protein, some more energy
in us and see where that takes us.

So I'm super, super excited.

This is the best thing in
the whole world right now.

Jungle hasn't broken me yet.

I am so thirsty.

It's getting dark.

We have our fire going,
which is so amazing.

- We have water.
- We have fire.

Next time, it's time to eat.

Well, it's warm right now.

We have a mosquito net, we
should not be getting bit by bugs.

It doesn't make any sense.

- This is tough out here.
- It's brutal.

Like out here, there's
really no recharging.

You can't even get
deep sleep all night long

and getting bit by something
and itching and turning

and the mentally
draining-ness of it

followed by an empty
stomach, you know.

That, you know, the combination

just does damage to you.

So we've got to get sleep, like, we
got to figure out how to deal with bugs.

This is definitely the hardest,

hardest thing I've been through.

Termites.

That's a great mound.

And we need to burn that.

I really thought that last night

would be much better,
and it was way worse.

There were more
mosquitoes inside the net

than there are in
the rest of the jungle.

So now we're going on
three days of no sleep.

Kenan is struggling.

So I'm going to
try to come up with

better alternatives today.

Just come back later and
take chunks out of that.

Put it in the fire.

Termites release
chemicals called terpenes,

but act as natural mosquito
repellants when burned.

If you just make little
improvements every day,

little steps, little wins,

you know, that's
kind of all you can do.

Termites live here.

All right. Onward.

I don't know what this stuff is.

I can't. It's like...

It's like clay.

I guess I would use it for...

to block bugs.

-Do you want some, clay?
-Heck, yeah.

Where'd you find that?

It's all over.

-Oh, great, thanks.
-Most of these rocks like this.

Haven't you been putting
this on for the mosquitoes?

The bugs are
doing us in at night.

So we're going to cover
ourselves in the clay down here.

Then, while the clay
is still a bit damp,

we're going to cover
ourselves in the ash from the fire

and then set a termite mount

smoking in the
corner of our place.

And If that doesn't do
it, I don't know what will.

- I hope it works.
- I know.

I don't think we can have
another night like we've had.

Why don't you tell us a little bit
about what we have going on here?

We got a little good mixture
of the clay and the ash.

I look like, um...
Who is that villain?

Jennifer Lawrence played?.

-Oh, yeah.
-Right.

Except she's blue and I'm gray.

-But we're both, like...
-It's close.

Looks like... Yeah,
with the red hair.

You're gonna tell me I
missed that right there?

Hoping that it keeps these
little critters from biting us.

It's not actually
boiling, but it's...

What was that?

I have absolutely no idea.

But it was huge.

Okay, what was that?

I don't know. I'm
trying to think like...

- What's even here?
- They got pigs, but...

There's no way that was a pig.

That would have to
be a 1500-pound pig.

We better get stomped
out in the middle of the night.

I'm going. I'm coming in there.

Not like that's
gonna protect you.

We have our mosquito
net to protect us.

Yeah, so today's the day we
got to find some big protein.

Where you wanna
go to try to find stuff?

That creek that
connects to this one,

it is kind of like a track,
but I think that way has

-just more...
-Just more plentiful things.

-It's just what it seems like.
-Right.

I just wanna make sure that
we just conserve our energy,

you know, we're not just
like because you need to eat.

I need to eat.

I was feeling so,
so bad yesterday.

But last night was the
first night of zero bugs.

- That was amazing.
- So we actually slept.

My mental is up, but, you know,

I know there will be
a crash here soon

if I don't get some kind of
meat in me, some kind of protein.

So now we're at the
point where I want to

just give it everything I
got to find something to eat.

So here's the river up here,
and I'm just gonna check it out.

I'm right here at it,

and there's kind of a
path that goes along,

and if you want
to just follow it.

You know, so at
least we don't get lost.

You're not getting lost.

Okay.

This is nice. This is...

No activity.

No frogs. There
should be more turtles.

Like, you'd think you'd
walk up on a creek,

you know, frogs jump in,
you see some fish swimming.

Some activity, some
stuff checking you out.

Man, it's just desolate.

I don't see much of anything.

What are you doing?

I mean, I'm trying to
find snakes, anything.

I mean, like you're
saying, there's just nothing,

but there's a pretty decent path
here that kind of follows the river

so we can just cover some
ground and see if we find anything.

Because I would say that they've
moved away from our camp.

You know, the
commotion, the fire.

Yeah, I say we...

If we keep following
this creek, it's gotta...

lead to something, man.

I thought at least crayfish,
some clams, some...

We're gonna find something.

All right.

Movements and patterns.

That's what I'm looking for.

For some reason, like my
brain really picks up on patterns.

Like, I'm good at, like
snakes, like their scales.

It's crazy what you don't find.

Like, back home,
I go in the woods

and I know everything's
different, but even like...

a carcass or
something, like bones.

It's a very quiet jungle.

A mouse...

I mean, literally, like, I
just am not seeing anything.

Not a frog.

Not even like slither
marks of a snake.

I mean, I have to
come down to the water.

This is a nice hole.

Little baby fish here.

Where is your mama?

Hey, here's a bunch of termites.

-I'll drop in.
-Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Do that, do that.

Yeah, look at them swarming.

Come on, what
else is there in here?

-Yeah, I see nothing bigger than...
-Like minnows.

-An inch.
-Right.

That's good, though.
This is pretty dry.

There's nothing.

Okay, let's keep moving.

Watch out for these thorns.

Looks like it's
getting less dense.

Oh, my God, that
is so beautiful.

Oh!

Oh!

God, look at that thing.

Look at you. I have
not even seen it.

That is so amazing.

Tortoise.

Oh!

That's cool, man.

-Check this out.
-I mean...

South America Tortoise

That is so cool.

No eating tortoises.

Seriously?

This tortoise, like, really
jolted me for some reason.

I mean, I'm going on
four days and not eating,

and like, I can't k*ll it.

I'm having a lot of doubts
about just what I'm gonna eat

and what I'm okay with eating.

Like, going in here,

I was like, dude, there's
no way I can't find turtles

and all these snakes and stuff.

I find those so easy
that I'm gonna be full.

I'm gonna eat so much.

Like all these things that I
go out and find, that is food.

People eat those.

But now, I don't know.

These are my
things, these reptiles.

And I'm almost scared if
I k*ll something, that it...

you know, haunt me for a while.

Sleep out here is no joke.

It's tough to even
get a little bit.

All night long,
you're getting bit.

It was just k*lling my body.

Y'all, honest.

I don't even think I
want to be here anymore,

which sounds so crazy.

It's a quiet jungle,
surprisingly.

I thought there'd be

flourishing a lot more,
which I'm sure it still is.

But I'm sure I thought
it would be more visible.

I mean, to keep going here,

I know I would have
to k*ll some snakes.

I don't know. Something
about that just doesn't sit right.

Why do I have say that
I get to k*ll that thing?

And I know this is survival,
but there's a piece of my brain

that knows that I
put myself here.

I thought once I
got in this situation,

you know, when there's
not a grocery store,

you know, two
minutes up the street,

that my brain would
know it would be justified.

But, man...

I don't know.

I don't know if it
does know that.

Oh, there's some
fruit over here.

I'm not sure what
that is, but this is nice.

This is a good little score.

Hell, yeah.

Ah!

Ooh.

Think that was a b*llet ant.

This hurts.

Why are you guarding a fruit?

b*tch, you don't eat fruit.

They're like, literally
protecting this fruit.

It's just frustrating.

Everything's so damn hard
out here, like, what's the point?

What's the point?

Okay? I'm done, man, I
don't even care about this.

This is just for my partner now.

We're gonna... That hurt.

Finally.

I got some fruit.

Oh, my gosh.

I didn't know you were
going on a journey.

They were so big, I tried
to grab as many as I could,

so I just tried to...

Keenen bringing me
these coquito nuts,

it's just such a huge win.

I'm just so grateful for that.

Is it gross?

I don't know.

You wanna try?

What does it taste like?

Like, nothing.

I don't need it to taste good.

As long as it's nourishing.

What were you
hoping they'd taste like?

I wouldn't hope anything.

I was just getting
them for you mostly.

You didn't find
anything for yourself?

No.

What if I just cut you
some of this fleshy part out?

You eat it.

No, I think you should eat
it, which I am still kinda...

Feeling kind of checked out.

I just wanted to get you some...

You're just trying to
set me up, so you leave.

I don't know.

Yes, you do.

You can be honest.

Well, just in case.

Just in case.

I know that I'm like,
I'm, like, checked out.

Keenan is struggling.

I don't know really what's
going on in his head.

I truly don't.

I think he really wanted to
come in and do some wow things.

And sometimes surviving is
not necessarily about the wow.

I thought I can do
anything, and I can't.

I believe you can, like,
how do we get mental...

Keenan to match up
with physical Keenan?

I mean, here you are, like, you
have this opportunity to do this.

And make it.

I always thought that
if my partner trashes,

I thought I would,
like, drag them back.

And it's interesting
because now that I'm here,

it's like, I don't even have
the energy to, like, fight

for someone else as
much as I usually do.

You're here for a
reason, Keenan.

I don't think it's to give up.

Never did I think

it would be this difficult.

Just know I want you
here, Keenan. Okay?

If I had the opportunity to
pick a partner, then I'd pick you.

Oh, man.

I don't know. I don't get it.

Like I said, I just feel
checked out, like...

I can sit here and last.

But that's not really me.

I think she can
sit here and last.

You know, she's
pretty hard core.

I know.

I didn't come out
here to starve.

That's not me. That's not
what I planned on doing.

So if I feel like I'm just
sitting here starving,

I'd rather go home then,
than just sit around till day 21.

Not really.

That part is so quiet.

Yo yo.

Um, I think I'm done.

I think I'm checked
out. Ready to go home.

I didn't think it'd come
to this, but, I mean, I'm...

I'm submitted.

As long as you're 100
percent with it, you know?

-Yeah.
-I just don't want you to have any regrets.

I know, I know, and I am.

I am.

You know, I've talked
about it with myself.

But you're tough as nails.

So... Ask for a better partner.

You're amazing.

You're badass.

You really are.

This was amazing.

Well, thank you for everything
you've done since you've been here.

Of course. Stay positive.

Okay?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

You got it. You got it.

You've been through worse.

Seriously.

I'm out of here.

Bye, Keenan.

Goodbye.

Just tapped.

Something I never
thought, you know,

in a million years I'd do.

I was probably quoted
saying I'd die before I tapped,

but I'm willing to
submit when I have to.

You know, I thought things
would've went a lot smoother.

Colombia is rough, man.

Colombia, it did
damage to me, for sure.

But I don't feel broken.

I feel, you know, like it just
shifted me in a different direction.

I didn't necessarily come
in here without any cracks.

Maybe broke off
what I didn't need.

It surprised me beyond
what I thought was possible.

I thought I'd be
ready for anything

and it really threw
a curveball at me.

After five days, Keenan
reaches his breaking point.

Ten pounds
lighter, his early exit

drops his PSR from 6.1 to 4.9.

Yeah, it's hard core out here.

I'm not even mad at him,
like, this has been so hard.

It's been so hard
with two people,

and just to think to do it
with one person is like...

Five days.

Man, there's so many days left.

Okay.

One thing at a time.

Ten minutes at a time.

Like...

A couple of deep
breaths and let's just reset.

I'm going to go
collect some dry grass.

This has probably been the
five hardest days of my life.

It's so hot once
you get out here.

At least after I
fell off the cliff,

I was in an air conditioned
hospital with a bed, food.

Let's just grab 'em

and get out of here.

I'm not ever gonna
get too confident

because this place is humbling.

Humbling.

But I am going to just
take it little steps at a time.

Still rain.

It's been hours.

I'm just bored, bored, bored.

The sun isn't coming up here.

This is where the
temperature just really drops.

I'm so thankful for a good roof.

Obviously you
can hear this rain.

It's no joke.

It's the morning now.

And guess what?
It's still raining.

Yay!

I'm gonna show you my
roof damage from last night.

This whole area is solid.

But right there,

I need to fix that today
because the water is

pretty much just
coming right on in.

Remember that rain
dance I did at the beginning?

I'm regretting it.

Be careful what you wish for.

The rain is just relentless.

My pot's filling up.

So at least tonight I won't
have to start a fire and boil water.

And actually it's filling up...

faster than I'm drinking it,

which is good, because
when this rain stops,

I want to go try to
find something to eat.

So being super
hydrated will be great.

At least that's what
I keep telling myself.

All right, so...

It's stopped raining.

The sun isn't out as
much as I want it to be out,

but don't wanna
waste any more time

'cause if it does start
raining again, then...

that's not good,
but I need to ash up.

The mosquitoes are like
maybe the worst I've seen them

which I wouldn't really think
that they could get worse.

And then they do.

It rained non-stop for two days.

You sit there and
shiver all night.

- You know what?
- I'm concerned about not having food

because when you
shiver, it burns calories.

I'm really low energy today.

So I don't want to overdo it.

I need to pace myself.
Slow, nice, easy steps.

But there's things
I need to get done.

I need to find food, and every
task just seems so monumental.

Oh, my goodness, dryness.

It's just crazy how
different it is out here.

Like, the second
you get out here.

Right now, I feel
super lightheaded.

I get dizzy and I feel like I
have just absolutely no stamina.

It worries me unless I find
a massive source of energy.

Should I be worried that,
like, the tips of my fingers

on this left hand are, like...

tingling all the time?

You know, when
something falls asleep

and then it's
coming back to life,

that's what it feels like.

It's felt like this...

for a day or so now.

I'm worried
because it's just, like,

oh, is that normal?
Is it dehydration?

Are you about to have,
like, an aneurysm?

I'm worried
because it's just, like,

oh, is that normal?
Is it dehydration?

Are you about to have,
like, an aneurysm?

-Hi.
-Hi.

No.

Nothing bite you?

Mosquitos.

Okay, basically, you are fine.

Good.

But those kind of feelings

you have in those
three fingers is normal,

because you are not
taking food, you know?

Right.

Drink water and try to eat
something like small fish

or some different
kind of protein.

Okay.

I will go to the grocery store
today and get some and fish.

Yeah, Go ahead.

-All right. Thank you, guys.
-Okay.

I was worried they
were gonna say,

oh, you have to medical tap out.

And...

They were just saying that you
need to eat something, which...

Right.

I would love to eat something.

Easier said than done,
but I mean, I can try.

Medical check with the
fingers was concerning, for sure,

because the doctor
said, you need to eat more

and you need to eat protein.

That just really got
me thinking that...

okay, you need to start
making plans to hunt fish.

I'm gonna cut some
of my mosquito net out

to construct some
sort of fishnet.

Making this trap and the
thought of catching a fish

and then k*lling it and
cooking it and eating it,

it's a lot, but, you know,
like I've always said,

I'm vegan because
of the industry.

And this is about
as fair as it gets.

I don't love it.

But you know, at this point,
I need to eat something.

End product.

I tied this knot off here
to give it a little weight.

So it drags,

throw the termites in,

and scooby dooby dooby doo!

All right. Why don't...

Not the best fish
net I've ever made,

but hopefully it works.

Spits of rocks.

Nothing there.

There's nothing in there.

I think these are
Moriche fruits.

Usually, once they're
in the river, they're bad,

but if they're right here and they're
washing them this close, they have to be

not that far from me.

Food situation's been
hard since I got here.

I need to find protein,
but in the meantime,

it's like I need
to eat something.

Just even the
smallest amount of fruit.

That would be a lot of energy.

Hey, there's one.

And another one.

Oh, my gosh, there's so many.

I'm gonna fill up my entire bag.

♪ Hallelujah ♪

Whoo!

Little late to the game,
but better late than never.

This was what I've
been dreaming of.

So these shells have the
consistency of a hard boiled egg.

Mm.

Oh, my gosh.

Food.

This is the best
thing that's happened.

Since the beginning
of the challenge.

Oh, this jungle has
to be kidding right now.

Oh, my gosh.

It was such a successful
day finding the fruit.

And so, then the
storm is so bad, like,

like, the worst storm I've seen.

And my roof fell.

I just don't know what's coming.

You know, I'm so cold.

And the bugs.

I'm trying so hard to
be so thankful for today.

I really am.

But, like...

I don't know. I
just don't even see

how I'm gonna make
it through this night.

Last night was the worst night.

I don't know if it was
one of the fruits or what,

but I threw up nine times.

And now I can't even
stand the smell of the fruit.

So... Then there's
that food source.

I've been trying to rest
this morning and drink.

And they're not gonna...

Attempt to pack up camp
and get to the grasslands.

Hopefully, it's warmer,
less bugs in a place

where I feel like it's
blocked by the wind.

Overall, that's a
better situation.

I'll figure the rest
out tomorrow.

Man.

I'm hoping we'll get to
the grasslands. It's hot.

The jungle has broken me.

And you have these
moments of highs and victories,

My shelter's great.

Then the storm comes
and just knocks it over.

And then it's like,
yay, I found food,

and then you eat it and
you throw up all night.

So I am packing up and
moving to the grasslands,

and hopefully start to
rebuild from this brokenness.

So no sooner did I
get the last palm on,

It started raining.

Let's see what food I can find.

Ugh.

I'd say it was a
pretty fair fight.

I'm feeling a little
overwhelmed.

On one hand, I feel victorious.

My three little fish are caught.

On the other hand, I feel sad.

The fish were so good.

So I wouldn't
necessarily say I regret it

or I'm overly beating
myself up about it.

You know, if I have to
go back out tomorrow

and catch more fish to be able to
get out of here on extraction day,

yeah, I absolutely will.

Oh.

End of day 20.

Of course, this bad
storm is rolling in,

and it's just the final round.

And I didn't expect this for
to get being any different.

Honestly.

The jungle doesn't want me here.

I don't wanna be here anymore.

Like, why?

Why has this been so hard?

And here it comes.

So... that's my cue.

And tomorrow, day 21.

Let's extract out of here.

The rain has let up.

It hasn't stopped
and the whole floor

of the shelter's flooded.

I'm laying in two
inches of water.

And I'm feeling sick.

I'm giving this challenge
my all every day.

Every day, every day.

And now this last night, when I just
wanted to get a good night's sleep

and get up in the morning
and celebrate extraction.

Now I'm gonna
spend all night fighting.

And I'm...

so tired.

So hard.

Well, that's the thing. You work
and work and work to get them,

and you get, like, nine.

You know what they taste like?

They taste like, um...
Uncooked soy beans.

I was thinking, when I
get back to the States,

maybe opening up my
own pest control business

"Hi, I'm Fairland and I'll
come eat your termites."

The sun is starting to come
up on what was literally like

the worst...

The jungle just, like, ripped
me to shreds last night.

And even with extraction
just hours away,

I wanted to quit.

All right.

Rested a little bit more.

And the sun's out.

It is extraction day.

It's like Christmas Day.

There are times I literally never
thought that this day would come.

Okay, so I've moved out
to the grasslands here.

It looks like I'm just going
somewhat back to where I was.

The fact that it's
day 21 and I'm here,

I just... I could
not be happier.

So I'm going to
be heading north,

all the way through the jungle,

and then when I get out,
it's just a bit northwest.

And there's extraction.

Okay, let's do it.

Physically not
doing any better than

I've probably
done the last week.

But mentally, I am
running out of here.

I am so excited.

Let's get out of here.

To reach the extraction
point, Fairland must hike

two miles through dense jungle

while staying alert for snakes,

herds of wild taper
and the deadly puma.

She must then
traverse five miles

over a searing savannah

where temperatures
near triple digits

and one of the deadliest
snakes in the world,

the Fer-de-lance
lurks in the tall grass.

I'm ecstatic that
this is the last time

I will make this walk.

Oh, this jungle has
to be kidding right now.

Yes.

Looks like this clears.

Real cute, jungle.

There's no worse
feeling than just sinking.

I can absolutely correlate
this time in this challenge

to falling off the
cliff 20 years ago,

and bridging that gap
with the mental fortitude,

the hard work, and be
able to look at this situation

and just say, you didn't stay in
that place of brokenness then,

and you didn't stay in that
place of brokenness now.

And that, for me, is
truly what's telling me

at this point, on extraction
day that I am unbreakable.

Those tall grasses were brutal.

It's like a foot of
marsh below 'em.

The landscape's beautiful.

It's really breathtaking,

if I had any
breaths to be taken.

I'm just looking down
at the ground for snakes

and carefully taking
one step at a time

because a wrong step out here

could end me hours
before extraction.

Feet are good.

The sun is hot.

I just want to rest here
for a moment, and then...

Keep going 'cause the
sun's only going to get hotter.

The sun is so oppressive.

I need to get to this tree.

I don't know how
much more I have in me.

I'm just so tired.

It's so far.

It's like I'm fine
when I'm resting.

But the second I start walking,

I just get dizzy and
my vision gets black.

I just can't see anything.

Oh, my gosh.

Oh, my goodness.

There is this familiar
sound of, like, horses,

and it's just like, wow.

I've already died
and going to heaven.

And then I just like, look up.

And there's these horses coming.

And it's just, like, such
a connection to past

when I fell off the cliff
because horses gave me

such a reason to
fight to get better.

Hey, buddy.

They just gave me the
legs that I didn't have then.

And then today, so unexpected.

They just did the exact
same thing for me.

After 21 days, Fairland
completes the challenge,

shedding 40 pounds
in the process.

Her primitive survival rating
jumps from 5.9 up to 7.1.

This whole challenge
has just really taught me

that it's not about
not being broken.

It's about being broken
and not staying broken.

I am so happy it's over.

I think when I get rest
and rehydrated and...

showered, I'll be even
more proud of myself.

But right now,
you know, it's done.

It is complete.

And it's what I set out to do

and It's the hardest thing
I've ever done in my life.

And then to go out on a horse.

On a horse. I mean,
is there any better way?

Not for me, they're not.

Whoo!
