SHOUTS: Hello?
I'm just in the warehouse!
Aw! Show me love.
I'm back with the dream team...
Here we go!
..to help families let go
of the thousands of items
cluttering our lives and homes.
Oh, wow.
We'll strip each house
to its bare bones...
Let's do this, team. Come on!
..before laying every single item
out perfectly in a giant warehouse.
THEY GASP
Oh, wow!
Oh, dear.
HE LAUGHS
Could you let go
of half your stuff...
Don't even think about it!
..to double the space you live in?
This is good.
Then we'll clean...
Scrape. Coming straight off.
..upcycle...
Brand-new, repurposed wardrobe.
I think it's going to look like
a posh hotel,
do you know what I mean?
..and organise...
Nothing in this house
is going to go to waste.
..in order to save the pennies...
The biggest money box in history!
..and restore joy into lives...
Wow. Yay!
GIRL SCREAMS
Your living room.
It looks like a proper
grown-up house! It does, doesn't it?
Oh, my God! How did you do this?!
..all in just one week.
If I see you pull down
the back of this sticker
one more time...
SHE LAUGHS
We did it!
Hey! Yay!
Sunshine in the city. Hey, guys.
Oh, how nice is this?
The train. I know. It's so warm
as well. It's bloomin' lovely.
This week, we're in one
of London's leafiest
and most beautiful boroughs,
Richmond.
One of us has got a bit
of extra hop in their step.
Are you taking the mickey out
of my shoes? I love it.
I'll be bouncing around,
packing boxes.
Our days out was going
on the train when we were little.
You could go all the way to Southend
on the train, to the beach.
How exciting.
Not long till your wedding now.
Two weeks to go! I can't wait.
You're all coming, though, yeah?
Well, I hope so. Yeah.
Still waiting for my invite.
I only sent my grandma and my auntie
in Scotland an invitation.
Down this way, right?
Erm... Yeah, that way.
Left or right?
Today, we're helping a young couple
renting a two-up, two-down
who are drowning
under a mountain of clutter.
Oh, this is so sweet.
Is this it? Yeah.
Oh. Corner house. Corner house.
So this is Char and Dan's house.
They've got two children,
and at the moment, they feel
like they've completely outgrown
the house.
There is not enough space in there,
and they're really struggling.
So that is where we come in.
All right. Whoo!
Going to go in there,
we're going to see what
we're dealing with and make a plan.
OK. All right.
The family have gone out for the day
so we can have a little nose
around the house and suss out
exactly what we've got to deal with.
OK...
Oh... Oh! Oh!
This is tight.
Straight into the kitchen.
Whoa! Ooh!
In this family home,
there's a kitchen,
a living room,
a bathroom
and two bedrooms.
That is crazy amounts of stuff. Wow.
Look at all the recycling.
Char and Dan have used every
inch of space, storing everything
from furniture to cleaning products.
Oh! OK.
There's, like, a table here. Yeah.
Then there's washing.
If there's no dining room,
can't possibly be getting that out
every day.
No. It's just covered in stuff.
Look, they're just all different
jars. Maybe they're crafty!
Uh-oh!
There is a real decent amount
of area here.
It's just not being used properly.
Yeah.
Oh, look!
Someone's just had a hen-do!
Oh, my goodness. I love it.
If you look up there, look,
there's like loads of ketchups.
Might be a bulk buyer thing.
You shouldn't bulk buy
if you don't have the space!
Sometimes it's so much cheaper
to bulk buy, whether you've got
the space or not.
It's not fair that the people
with the big houses get
to save on their products
and the people with the small houses
have to buy individuals.
Bulk buying for everyone!
I vote Stace. I vote Stace.
As much as I look around,
this is a rental property.
So there are definitely limitations
on what we can and we can't do. OK.
But as long as you can make it
good afterwards,
then there is some room
for movement.
We're going to strip
the entire house and display
all of the family's possessions
in a huge warehouse.
They must then decide
what to keep and what to let go.
It's like the living room, right?
Oh, wow.
She's definitely getting married.
Kitchen. This takes up
a lot of room.
Are they playing when they're
watching TV? I suppose so.
I think, when they tidy up,
it's just get in the corner,
out of the way. Around the corner.
It's like half playroom,
half living room.
Push it out of the way.
Which makes sense
if you've got kids -
what else are you going to do?
Well, if you've got kids, your front
room doubles up as a playroom.
All the toys go in there.
And that's where the kids live
in the day.
And that's where you retire to
at night.
I want to be able to hide
all their stuff and just sit
amongst my own adult stuff.
I feel like we divide and conquer
and see what else
we're dealing with.
We'll reconvene at the end.
All right. Yeah. Ready?
Dills, come with me. OK.
It's you and I, Iwan. Yeah.
Off the kitchen,
the boys have a butcher's
at the downstairs bathroom.
There seems to be a lot of clutter
inside this bathroom here.
I think it should be like
a hotel bathroom.
Do you fold your toilet paper?
I never get that fancy
with the toilet paper.
I think that's important.
You can just wet the end
of the tap and you just go
like that, and it stamps it.
That's the vibe.
Fabulous boutique hotel.
And then that'll dry and,
like, hold it in place.
It's like a crest. Yes, yes.
Oh, wow.
This is the system that
everyone adopts where it's like,
"I'll put it in piles on the
stairs..." And no-one takes it up.
And no-one takes it up.
Literally, it gets left here.
Interesting laundry basket,
with the trainers in it.
Upstairs, me and Dilly have a r*fle
through the mounds of clutter
covering every surface
in the master bedroom.
Look. Rex would love these,
my little boy.
It must be from the kids'...
Kids' rooms?
Look - police baton. You have the
right to remain silent. Oh, gosh.
Someone's said that to you
a few times?
Look, there's little handprints
in there.
Dah! Oops.
Look at all these brushes. Why?
17 hairbrushes.
Oh, my God,
maybe this is Rapunzel's house?
Look at this, the biggest money box
in history.
This could be the honeymoon fund.
Oh, my God.
Oh, I found your favourite.
There's loads of teeth - look.
Ugh! Why do people...? Stop it!
It's their baby little teeth.
Ah, the kids' bedroom.
Oh, my gosh.
That is just the biggest bed
I've ever seen.
Literally takes up the whole room.
They're sisters, obviously,
aren't they? They share.
One of them is toddler age
and one is a teenager.
Nobody has their own personal space.
There is so much stuff
in that wardrobe.
It's just filled to the brim.
And no-one can get to it anyway.
I mean, that is all teddies in here.
Hello, you lot. Hey! Hello.
Hi. Oh, wow. Whoa.
What do we do with that, Rob?
All eyes on you.
Flat-pack beds, they can be
a bit awkward to alter.
But it's possible. Yes, it is.
Guys, I've got stuff to do.
I need...
We have to get on it!
Like so many properties in city
centres, it is compact,
and at the moment, we need to really
hone in on what each room does.
We need to split each room
in two, almost, don't we?
Just need to have dual
functionality but be practical.
If we're going to make the front
room a playroom AND a front room,
we need to be able to turn it
into one another easily. Yeah.
Is that them? Hold on. Oh, that's
them. Is that them? Hello! Hi!
Hello! Nice to meet you.
How are you doing?
How are you doing? Nice to meet you.
Such a lovely house.
You've got a beautiful home,
but there is loads of stuff
in there.
Lots of doubles, lots of duplicates.
It's a sort of sort through
everything, but again,
to actually get a chance we're
actually all together
is quite a rarity.
I also noticed
someone is getting married.
Yay!
We're on the Friday.
We're on the Sunday.
BOTH SQUEAL
Daddy! Daddy time!
Daniel and Char met
at secondary school as teenagers.
How's it going? Love you.
A chance meeting
in the English corridor one day.
She just gave me
that big cheesy grin.
Check you out.
Still got time to cook us a steak
as well.
Went over and started talking to her
and then that was it.
The rest is history.
He used to wear tracksuit bottoms
and trainers, and we were never
allowed to do it in school.
So he was like the bad boy.
You kids get ready, then.
He's clearly not a bad boy.
Bless him!
Come on, let's go.
Bath time, bath time!
I remember saying to my really good
friend, I'm going to marry him
and have his babies one day.
I did. I did.
Five years after Dan and Char
started dating...
We were parents
at a very young age.
We had Mia...
I'd just turned 21. Char was 18.
Being young parents definitely
tested Daniel and I's relationship.
We broke up for a little while.
We both lived at home with our
parents,
but it helped us grow up
pretty fast, pretty quick.
We both needed that
to be the adults we are now.
With their baby daughter, Mia,
the young couple moved
into a new affordable home.
So we currently rent
from the council.
The only issue with renting
is the fact that we can't treat
it like it was our own,
like, add on extra rooms.
But it's our little house.
We love our little house.
Seven years after Mia was born,
there's another addition
to the Harris-Hawleys.
Cece is a bull in a china shop.
Like, when she was small,
we'd call her Cece Smash,
like, after Hulk Hogan,
because anything she sees,
she wants to grab.
Yeah, just leave a massive mess
in her wake.
If I get all my toys out,
I don't put them back
because it's boring.
For Char and Dan, having
a full house comes at a cost. Oh!
I think it's because we worked
really hard to get where we are,
and things cost money,
and there isn't a lot of money.
Maybe that's why. Maybe I think,
"Oh, I'll just keep it
just in case we need it."
Unfortunately, this house is not
built for storage,
so we actually have nowhere
to put it.
You can't move in
from one room to another
without tripping over something.
I do try my best, and I know
everyone else does,
but it's just, there's so much stuff
and there's, like, not enough room
to put it all.
Financially, it's better for us
to bulk buy.
Cost of living has risen, which
makes it very difficult for us.
Me and Char both work all hours.
We scrimp and scrape and we try
and put some money aside so that one
day we can eventually buy this house
off of the council and officially
call it our own.
Something has to give,
and it's the house, unfortunately.
So, with the clutter gone,
there'd be more family time for us.
Right now, as the house is,
you wouldn't have your wedding
pictures here. No. No way.
We need to change that. Absolutely.
When we get in the warehouse,
as long as you can let go of 50%
of what you have, so that we can get
it to be as functional as possible
for you guys, that's the dream.
Should we go inside
and start packing up?
Yeah. Yeah? Ready? Yeah.
Come on, then. This is the hard bit.
We only have ten hours to help
Daniel, Char and their daughters
Mia and Cece pack up
every single item in their home.
I feel like
let's start with the surfaces,
and then we'll feel good
immediately.
Yes. Let's do it.
Let's just shove it all in.
Well, I don't know about that.
The jars are for the wedding.
This is all recycling.
But this is all our washing in here.
Where does the clean washing go?
On the stairs. On the stairs.
I think that I'm guilty too,
cos I think, "Oh, I'll get it
tomorrow morning."
Tomorrow morning comes, "Hurry up!
Quick, get ready for school!
"We're running really, really late!"
I get in from work,
I'm like, "I'm not doing that.
That can wait for the weekend."
You've just washed it all, dried it
all, folded it up. Absolutely.
Don't get me wrong, there's days
when I just can't face it.
I genuinely believe that if
you have systems in place that help
you to be able to tidy up at the end
of the day and it's easy,
you can fully switch off.
Oh, my goodness.
I don't know where to begin.
Well, maybe we can start
with the toys.
Who's the Spider-Man fan,
which girl? Daniel. Oh!
I know, he's my man-child.
I thought it was the kids'.
They're yours?
Yeah, they are mine, yeah.
I've not watched Spider-Man, ever.
Oh, my God.
It'll change your life.
I mean, it's just not real.
He is the biggest child,
but I wouldn't have it
any other way, though.
Bet you're excited to marry him.
The man-child. I just...
I don't know what I'd do about him.
Speaking of man-childs, Joe,
he's suit shopping today.
Hi. Hi. How's it going?
Yeah, you're at work.
Have you got your suits?
We got measured today.
But the problem is the colour,
Stace.
The theme of the wedding,
by the way, has been the same theme
for the last year-and-a-half.
He sounds like Daniel.
The green. Right.
Let's get a second opinion. Hi!
Hello. So my problem is I don't want
to wear a colour to my wedding,
cos in 15 years' time
when I look at it,
I'm going to look ridiculous.
I want to wear dark navy
or black.
Joe, I'm going to have to side
with Stacey here.
I can't wait to marry her,
but I'm not walking down the aisle
in a green suit. To be continued.
We'll talk about this tonight.
I love you.
Bye, darling.
With Joe's wedding woes on hold,
upstairs, Dilly's grilling Dan
on the shoe situation.
I mean, there's trainers
in the laundry basket.
Not all mine.
Trainers under the bed.
They're mine. Trainers in there.
Yeah, that might be mine.
See? Char's just as bad.
Is that all her shoes? I feel
like she's been digging me out
quite a lot
during this whole process.
He had, like, 200 pairs of socks,
300 pairs of boxers.
You know, he's got so much.
I was just pulling out one pair
after another after another.
I mean, the sock bag was ridiculous.
Can I just say,
this is all just socks?
Yeah. This bag?
I think they're equally aiding
and abetting each other.
This one's got a bit in it.
But this one...
I mean, when you can swing
a paint cart round your head,
you know there's nothing in it.
With five hours of packing done,
it's time to tackle the kids' stuff.
Well, we've got...
Well, you're in charge.
You have a lot of toys.
This one. In here. All right.
How about this one?
Yep. Yep.
Yep. Oh!
Is that table too small,
or you just can't get to it?
One, I can't get to it. And two,
it just takes up so much space.
Would you like to have a table?
I would love to have a table.
Just be able to sit there and talk
about our day and do arts
and crafty bits. Upstairs,
Dilly's found an old friend
of Dan's.
God. What is this, this little bear?
So that... Aw, look at him.
That is my childhood teddy bear.
What's his name? I went with Ted.
Oh, my. I mean, that... Had him
since I was, like, minutes old.
Oh, my goodness.
This is literally, like,
the perfect example
of one of those bears
that has been dragged around
forever. He's hanging by a thread.
We found my tea set!
Oh, can we have a break?
Milk and one sugar, please.
Yeah. Yeah?
You're about to go into secondary
school as well, aren't you? Yes.
That's, I think,
the hardest transition.
Have you ever had, like, your own
sort of, like, teenager,
older girl's room space?
It's mainly, like, this stuff
where you're standing.
I have, like, a make-up drawer and,
like, I get ready for the day there.
When Cece moved in,
did her stuff kind of take over?
Yes. Yeah. Quite a lot.
The age difference does make
it harder because compared
to her being, like, three,
just coming up four,
every other things,
like she always touches
and grabs and I'm, like,
"Just, please, just leave it alone.
"Like, it's mine.
Can you just please not touch it?"
We need to try and give you,
like, that space
where you're growing up a little
bit, but also hold on to the things
that still make you feel like
a child and make you happy. Yeah.
It is such an awkward time,
that transition between child
and adult, those teenage years,
you're just trying to work yourself
out, and she's actually trying
to manage that and deal
with that transition
at the same time as sort of living
with a toddler.
I love that sometimes I can
just sneak up here and just lay
on my bed and chill out
for five minutes until Cece comes up
and is like,
"Mimi! You play with me?"
Mia had her own room for up
until about a year-and-a-half ago.
And then I felt really bad. Why?
Because obviously we put Cece
in there.
I think that where you've tried
to overcompensate
and give her the bigger bed,
you've compromised
all the floor space.
And what actually would maybe
be more useful for her
is to have a whole section
of that room to herself.
No, I get it.
I just felt really bad.
I just wanted to make it a little
bit more grown... Mum guilt.
I have so much. I'm riddled with it.
As long as your intentions are,
"I want to do what I think
at the time is the best for them
"and I love them unconditionally,"
that's the best you can do.
You know, you can't beat yourself
up over things because...
Oh, don't, don't get upset.
Sorry. No, it's OK.
Honestly.
You can't beat yourself up
over things.
I definitely feel that you can tell
with Char that her emotions
are right there at the surface,
and I think Char and Dan just get on
with it and hold it in,
hold it in, hold it in.
Now, she's right up here
with emotion.
Everything is ready to go.
Not just the stuff in her house,
but all the emotions
inside her, as well.
Let me just start getting stuff
out of here.
No. Can you just help me with this,
please? I'm only putting it there.
With half an hour to finish
packing,
Dan's found even more stuff
in the attic.
I've counted three TVs. Three TVs?
How have we got three TVs?
Wow.
That is serious packing there,
isn't it? Look at all that!
FAMILY: Bye!
See you at the warehouse!
See you at the warehouse!
With the busy day of packing over...
Oh, wow.
..all the family's stuff is on its
way to the warehouse to be sorted.
I'm actually probably the most
apprehensive about the warehouse
I've ever been.
It is a very tight space,
so we have to be
really regimented
with what we bring back,
and I think that's going
to be our biggest issue.
All of the family's possessions
have been brought
to a 10,000-square-foot warehouse,
and over the next two days,
they must decide
what to keep and what to let go.
Are you desperately going to try
and cling on to, do you reckon?
INDISTINCT
It's probably Mum's heels.
What? Mum's heels? No.
Because I fit into them!
Dad, I can save your heels.
THEY LAUGH
You're going to save MY heels?
CHAR: Oh, my God, look at this.
Oh, my God. Look at this.
Hey! Whoo!
How are you guys?
I feel sick. Yeah. Oh, no.
Don't know what to expect right now.
We are here to support you and make
sure that you get
the right stuff back in the house.
Thank you.
Shall we go in and have a look?
Let's do it. Yes. Come on, then.
NERVOUS LAUGHTER
Oh.
Oh! Oh, wow.
Oh, my God.
Oh, wow. Oh, wow.
Oh!
Boxes of the family's stuff
have been unpacked and laid
out into sections...
I don't even recognise half
this stuff!
..so that they can clearly see
how much of everything they have.
Welcome to your home. No.
We counted 437 DVDs,
over 200 hair bows...
Oh, my.
..59 hairbrushes and combs
and 1,011 toys.
Oh, my, I'm going to die!
It does look like a toy shop.
Every time I try and get rid
of one of the kid's toys,
he's like, "Have you ever watched
Toy Story?" And he makes me put
it in a black bag
and pop it in the loft.
I think that we shouldn't be living
our lives to the mantra
of Toy Story. Thank you, Stacey.
Because it's your chance to say,
"This doesn't make me feel good,
so I don't want to
"bring it back to my home."
You're right.
CECE PLAYS RECORDER
No, no. That's the first to go.
Can we start with this?
Get rid of this thing first.
Over the next 48 hours, Char, Daniel
and daughters Mia and Cece
will be sorting through
their belongings by putting them
into piles to sell,
recycle or donate.
I'm going to start by cracking on
with the stuff
they've accumulated TONNES of.
Cosmetics.
I know that that's what
you're trying to achieve
is save money
and be more economical.
And then there's bulk buying
with stuff that
actually can end up going off.
Yeah. These are like... I couldn't
wipe my face with that now.
No. They're dry.
Let's get rid of the almost empties
and the dries.
There looks to be a lot of these.
One, two, three, four face washes.
Mm-hm. They're all new.
OK.
So you were hairdressing? Yes.
And now you're just hairdressing
for family? Yes.
What about all those brushes?
Two, four, six,
eight, ten, 12 roll brushes.
If you're doing a curly blow dry,
you keep them in the hair.
SOFTLY: Damn!
Char has got a reason
for every single toiletry
she has ever owned.
I have really got to try
and convince Char
having the essentials and maybe,
like, one or two backups is enough.
Sort this out. A lot of the
toiletries and stuff is like...
Greatest respect,
it's all your stuff.
Dan, you look lost.
I'm completely lost.
I'm trying to find what belongs
to me. In the stuff here.
They've got all their hairbrushes,
hair bands, perfumes.
It's crazy how much stuff
they've got.
So it's all their fault.
I travel light.
While Dan's washing his hands
of the girls' clutter,
Mia is paying full attention
when it comes to her stuff.
You're doing really well.
This is good. Thank you.
This is all your make-up.
These princessy ones? They can go.
Do you feel a bit older
for them now? Yeah.
This stuff kind of has
a sale-by date.
Some of the make-up
that you're going to donate,
we could save some bits for Cece,
and then when you do your make-up...
Such a good idea! ..she can have
your old make-up.
That could go here.
Ten minutes more in this section,
otherwise we're going to be
too long. Yeah, yeah.
Back at base...
Oh, space!
How nice is it in here?
..Rob, Iwan and Dilly are working on
some much-needed storage solutions
in the kitchen.
What I need to do is to be able
to create storage. Yeah. Yeah.
And incorporate into that
a dining room table.
Wow. Good luck.
Yeah, good luck with that, Rob.
I'm thinking full built-in units,
and then, once you close the doors,
everything looks nice and neat,
everything's hidden away. Yeah.
And every space has its purpose.
And Rob's got another idea
for a rental friendly solution
in the girls' bedroom.
What I'd like to do is remove this
bed, off of the top of this one...
Yeah. ..cut the legs off
and spin it round
and place it against the wall here.
When you're doing fixing
to the wall, try keep it minimal.
It makes your life easier
when it comes to doing the thinning
and a little bit of touch-up
so that deposit can come back
in your pocket.
That is genius.
In the warehouse...
Yum!
Oh, yeah, I love chips.
SHE PRETEND MUNCHES
And I got you some pizza.
Oh, I love pizza.
What happened to the rest of it?
Did you eat it?
No, it's just...
There's no more.
I've got the only slice?
SHE GOBBLES AND SIGHS
After a quick snack from
Cece's beloved toy kitchen,
it is onto the paperwork.
This is from when I made pizza
at Pizza Express in Twickenham.
Oh, my God!
I've never in all my life!
You have got the most random
paperwork.
Honestly, Char!
There's a massive folder
of paperwork here.
Sifting through the family admin
is bringing back old memories
of when Dan and Char first had Mia.
So before I got to rent
this property, I lived with my nan
and I fell pregnant, and then it
just all got too much with her,
so I was put into...
I got put into a hostel,
and me and Mia, we were in there
for, like, just under a year.
Both of you? Yeah.
Was Dan not allowed in it?
No. Me and Dan had broke up.
Oh, you weren't together?
Yeah, we weren't together.
But he was the most amazing dad
and amazing best friend, really.
Was he just not ready?
He just weren't ready to commit
as in a relationship.
I know people say there's no
difference between the maternal
and the paternal instinct,
but when you're pregnant at 18
and, you know, you've just been
through the whole pregnancy,
you've just given birth
to that child, there's absolutely
no other choice... Yeah. ..than to,
like, step up and grow up.
You have to.
Whereas for men, I think it might...
It just changes overnight for them,
almost. Yeah.
And they need a bit more time
sometimes to come around to the
idea. Absolutely.
So I get it.
It was hard, but it's made us
who we are.
We've come from nothing.
And, you know, and I think
that's why we also hold on
to little things.
I see so many parallels
in Char and I.
We both got pregnant at
a similar age where you're like,
"I don't have a job.
I have no qualifications behind me.
"I have no idea
what the future holds
"or how to provide for this child."
And you just go
into, like, survival mode.
And I so appreciate seeing that
in somebody,
because I know how hard it is.
We are four hours through the day
and it is time to tackle the toys,
one of the biggest sections
in the warehouse.
Cece, can you line up for me
your ten best teddies?
And then we can give
the other teddies
that aren't your favourite, away.
Thank you. Panda! See you later!
CECE LAUGHS
Whoo!
You like Spider-Man? Love him.
So does my boy.
I feel like if we're asking the kids
to sacrifice, we can say goodbye?
Argh! I can't look.
It seems that the kids are finding
letting go of their teddies easier
than their dad.
That one - yes.
So I've got 11.
Do you reckon we could let go
of any of those?
That leaves...
..Brentford and Paddington.
Daddy.
Do you think it's time
to let go of Paddington?
It's down to you, kid.
When I look at it,
I just remember the day out we had.
Day out in London
and we went to Paddington Station.
I think maybe take a picture
and then donate. You can do.
But then again... Dan, I hear you
trying to... ..it comes down
to what they mean to you.
No, it does not! Course it does.
At the end of the day, I'm not...
I can remember it, but...
It's down to you.
I do remember the day,
but I think it would be time
to give him to someone
who loves him a bit more.
Maybe. It's down to you
to think about it.
Will you be upset
if she let go of him?
It's kind of irrelevant
what I think, because, again,
he's one of many trips out
that we've had.
I think it's really relevant
what you think, though.
I wonder if sometimes they worry
about letting go cos they think
that you love them as well.
Yeah. Yeah. I think I'm going to...
Come on, take Paddington over. Yeah.
Let's go. Yeah.
Where's the time gone?
It's just...
It's gone so quick, hasn't it?
I think Dan's struggling with the
fact that she is getting older,
and it's really emotional.
At some point, you do have to go,
"Do you know what?
"She isn't a baby any more.
"And I have to let her
make her own decisions."
With the house emptied,
Iwan's got an exciting accessory
to clean all the radiators.
This is a microfibre radiator brush,
of all things.
It looks kind of like
Marge Simpson's hair, doesn't it?
This is really perfect
for getting in between
all these little convective things.
So these are the bits
in your radiator
that transfer all the heat.
And what happens is, if the dust
is in there, it actually stops them
working so effectively.
And Rob's been hard at work
creating his kitchen unit,
but he's run into a big problem.
ROB GROANS
The unit's too big
to go inside the house.
Um, yeah, I've got a problem
to solve.
Inside the warehouse...
I like your style.
Get 'em out of here.
..Dan takes a clean sweep
at the DVDs...
Come on. That must feel good.
..before moving on
to the memory section.
Is that yours,
or is that an old one?
That was my dad's.
He was a police officer.
My mum sort of kept it,
and then when I marched out,
my mum had that made.
Oh, my. For your police...?
Yeah, yeah.
I forgot I even had that.
What is it?
It's like a mind journal.
Oh, cool.
I had a bit of a bad patch.
Aw. I don't like talking
about feelings and stuff,
but that kind of helped to get me
to sort of open up to myself a bit.
This is so nice, though.
"My life began when I turned 21.
"When I became a father,
I had to take a long, hard
"look at myself
and quickly make changes.
"A lot of people
had written me off before.
"I had had a chance to prove
myself."
I know that Char was in a hostel
with Mia.
Yeah, like, she...
She needed me there and...
I was, to an extent.
I could still go and play football
or go out with my mates,
whereas really, looking back,
there was bigger priorities
at the time.
It's not until Mia came
and it's like, "Wow, it's real now.
"You can't be...
"You can't be like this any more,
"because what child is going to want
a dad that's just never there?"
I think one of the things
we have in common is that both our
mums raised us, and it's like, well,
is that the dad that I want to be?
No, this kid's going
to know her dad.
This kid's going to be proud
of her dad.
Hug me! No. Ugh. Hug me! Go away.
Hug me! Ugh, that's so weird.
Look at it. With four sections done,
they've still got two to complete.
We've got an hour left.
Let's do a, like, grab-and-go.
Oh, my God. Look at Mimi here.
No, that's not a good start.
Big items. Let's go, go, go, go. OK.
Donating. Yeah, no,
they're done. Ha!
Kitchen. This is quite bulky,
isn't it?
Honestly, Stace, she uses that every
day. She does play with that.
Cece? This saves your life?
Absolutely, it has.
This is good stuff.
Bin it, bin it, bin it.
So much stuff to begin with.
And I don't think you realised
what you had in the house.
We've got squares
with nothing in them.
This is good!
You should be really proud
of yourself.
Let's go and get dinner. Yeah. Yay!
Well done. Good luck tomorrow.
We're going to need it.
It's early morning at the warehouse.
Do-it-all Dilly's arrived, and it is
anyone's guess as to what kind
of mood she's in.
Good morning! Hi! Morning.
I must say, the sections
that you tackled yesterday,
you've actually finished.
Yay! Yeah. I'm really proud.
Well done.
I mean, this half of the warehouse
almost is a little bit clearer,
but that half of the warehouse..,
Yeah.
For once, I feel like
we can congratulate Stacey.
But I'm always thinking
about the space that I've got
to organise that stuff back into.
So the warehouse is always
so deceiving for people.
Yes, I know that you are doing
your best,
but sometimes your best
isn't good enough.
You need to do more.
Tell me what you are keeping here.
I've got clothes
from when I was, like, 18.
Instead of chucking it,
I was like, "Oh, I can just wear
that around the house."
Like swim shorts, like here.
These are my first lads' holiday.
You're not keeping them.
They can make a comeback.
What do you reckon?
Do you actually ever go back
to these clothes and lounge
around in the house in them?
Evidently not.
Try and live by that basic rule -
one in, one out.
You know, I'd like to say one in,
two out, but if you buy
a new jumper, look at a jumper
that you haven't worn for ages.
Can that now leave?
Blitz these tables,
blitz these rails.
I do wear that. I do wear that.
While Char's busy letting her stuff
go, Dan's struggling,
and we haven't even got
to his beloved trainers yet.
I suppose the tassel loafers can go,
can't they? No, trainers, not shoes.
You're in the same trainers
all the time, Daniel.
Are any of those trainers not comfy?
These ones are a size too small,
but I can fit in them. What?
So you're keeping trainers that are
a size too small?
They are a size too small, but I can
fit in them because they stretch.
But they're not comfortable. No.
At long last, Dan gives in and lets
go of 21 pairs of trainers.
That's better, isn't it?
Hard at work,
Rob's trying to divide and conquer.
And there you have it, people.
Clean-cut separation.
Ha-ha! Result!
In the kitchen, Iwan is in need
of his expert advice.
Rob, come in. Iwan.
I've got to show you this.
So I found this thing online. Yeah.
It's basically a little contraption.
It's got the hinges, and it means
you can turn this bit of your drawer
that's a fake drawer under the sink
into a little flap
that will come out.
Oh, that is fantastic.
And you can put your sponges
in there and bits and pieces,
but I don't know how
to get the bit off.
Usually, this here is held on
with an L bracket, so two screws...
Yeah. ..and it will be out.
This piece will go onto the side
of the unit. The hinges.
This is...
This is really simple to fit.
Hello, sponges and gloves!
I absolutely love that!
All right, last 30 minutes,
last blitz.
We've started the process
for them both.
You know, they're getting married
in less than a week and they've got
this new chapter of life,
which is so exciting.
Whee!
Last five minutes. Aargh!
Please be careful with your fingers.
Bye-bye, warehouse! No!
Come on.
Let's come have a look
at what we've done.
Two days ago, Char,
Dan and the girls
were drowning in clutter.
But after a couple of exhausting
days in the warehouse,
they have managed to let go
of almost 60% of their stuff.
Look at this. MIA: Mum!
Well done, everyone.
Well done.
Better? Yes. I feel like a weight
has been lifted off my shoulders.
I don't know what I'm feeling.
I feel so much right now.
I'm proud of us.
I keep it in the back of my mind,
obviously how we started out
and how hard it was.
It's nice that we've come across
a lot of stuff that's
still in good condition
that we can pass on.
That's lovely.
Really lovely thing to say.
Well done. Next time you see
your house...
Get in. Get involved.
..it's going to be
so much more different!
It's 9:30am, and all the family's
possessions are back
from the warehouse.
Nice breakfast.
Set yourself up for the day.
I'm not being funny, but if I don't
eat a big old meal for breakfast,
I won't get through today.
And we've only got one day
before they come back and see
the fruits of our labour.
Looks like a lot of stuff
in here still. Let's do it.
Come on, team!
All right, let's go, guys.
Let's go. Whoo! Let's go.
I'm starting by sprucing up
the kids' toys.
I'm literally just spray-painting
some of the accessories
on Cece's toy kitchen
cos she loves it so much.
We thought if we paint it,
it would just make it something
exciting for her to come home to.
But I've got a plan to disguise it
so the living room
can become dual purpose.
In the day, we've got play kitchen.
All right.
And in the night, we've got
a chic piece of furniture
that no-one knows is a toy kitchen.
I like that because that definitely
ties it in and just makes it
disappear into the room. Easy!
So what I'm going to do is make one
container of all the stuff that's
going to expire in the next month
and call it, "Eat next."
So now we know that nothing in
this house is going to go to waste.
Because this is a rental property,
if you're leaving, you have to make
good and almost have it back
to how you started.
If you look at this whole area,
it is just bright white
and even just having
this one strip of colour
makes a massive difference.
Just makes it a bit more
interesting, a bit more exciting.
Also, it's the easiest thing
to cover up again.
They just get roll off
with white paint and go over
this one little strip.
It looks like something greasy
has been spilt down this.
I like to use chalk because
what that will do is absorb
all the grease before you put
it in the wash, which will help
to remove it.
Obviously, then you just throw this
in the washing machine.
I am going to switch my boxes
for bags,
so I'm using these nifty
little clear bags,
and I'm going to cut the face off.
So we know that this puzzle
is that, it's got 35 pieces,
so I can simply pop it
inside my zip bag...
..like so.
And then empty my box
of puzzle pieces into here,
like so. Ta-da!
Look how nice and flat that is.
The carcass has been built.
Now I'm working on
the most difficult part,
our pull-out dining room table.
Rob's creating a slide-out table
in the kitchen so that the family
can enjoy meals together
without using up too much space.
I had this idea of using
this old wine rack for the bathroom,
for their towels.
Each family member can have
a nice towel all fresh and ready
all the time.
I'm just going to simply fold them.
Then roll.
While Dilly's busy
freshening up the bathroom,
I'm off to a local charity shop
to get some cheap and cheerful decor
for the house.
5.99?
You can't go wrong.
There is nothing better
than a good old rummage.
Where else would you find such
a broad selection of lampshades?
But be warned because
there is a lot of temptation.
I mean, for 14.99,
you can't go wrong.
I've got my outfit for reveals.
Let's go!
Down the high street,
Char is on her way to a local
electronic exchange shop to cash in
on what they've let go of.
Wow, even more. OK.
£105.84.
Thank you so much, Ali.
You're welcome.
And Dan is at the supermarket.
That will be much easier
than carrying around a water cooler
full of coins.
Back at the house, Iwan's got
an innovative idea for saving money
and the planet.
I want to make them some reusable
wipes because I thought wipes
might be something
they're bulk buying.
And they're expensive, aren't they?
Yeah. I found this stuff online.
This is bamboo paper. Oh.
So this is actually strong enough
that it's not going to fall apart.
Put a little cup of water in here.
Yeah. Just some water.
I'm going to add half cup
of vinegar.
I'm going to do it like one
of your measures when you're making
your c*ck, Dilly. Oi-oi!
A little squirt
of washing-up liquid.
That's all we need.
And I might just add
a few drops of lemon.
I want to get this in here.
The idea being that they're kind
of pre-soaked
when you come to using them.
No nasty chemicals, home-made.
And reusable. And we could
literally wash these out afterwards
and use them again.
To help with the family's
overflowing the bathroom,
Rob's creating some additional
storage space.
And there you have it.
That is one under-sink storage unit
that's ready.
Now, these little net bags
some people use for shopping,
some people use for fruits.
I'm using it for...a hammock
for the teddies!
With the bathroom
being downstairs in this house,
I was thinking at night-time
it must be tricky
running up and down the stairs,
you know, when it's dark.
So I wanted to get some night lights
for the staircase,
but with this being a rental,
we don't want to wire anything in.
So I found these really cool
little lights.
They're rechargeable
and also they have little magnets.
So when you go down the stairs
at night-time, that light will come
on and illuminate the staircase
to prevent any accidents.
Often old houses like this,
the staircases can be quite narrow
and they're not as deep
as you might expect.
So I think this would be a really
nice solution just to make it a bit
safer for the family to come
up and down every night.
They look quite snazzy, don't they?
I feel like I'm in a nightclub.
It's mid-afternoon
and we've only got five hours left
to finish the job.
Iwan? Yeah? Yeah.
Have you seen outside?
I don't know how they all came back.
It's halfway through the day.
The house isn't anywhere
near being clear, and now
we're taking up the whole street.
Yeah, we can't really do this,
can we? No. We're behind already.
I don't know how we've got
so behind.
I thought we were on track today.
Oh, how did this make it back?
No-one wanted this, Dilly.
Oh, my God.
I could be the Pied Piper of Mess.
STACEY PLAYS OUT OF TUNE
DILLY LAUGHS
Come on.
Yep. That's you,
broken chair. Come in.
After miscalculating the boxes,
I'm calling in a favour.
I'm going to ring Joe,
cos he's working down the road.
I'll see if he'll just come here
on his way back.
There were no door handles anywhere,
were there? No door handles.
And this is one of them jobs
that people will call someone up
to get done.
It's so much easier than it looks.
And this little rod goes
through the middle,
and then essentially you just put
a handle there, a handle there.
And that's it.
That's it, just glue it in.
It looks complicated,
that's the thing. Yeah.
So people get worried about it.
Then £150 later,
just for a few door handles...
That is me. Yes. No more!
With four hours to go,
Joe's arrived just in the nick
of time.
Hi. Are you all right?
Aye-aye. Hey.
Chaos as usual.
You've got yourself to blame.
You make your life hard.
Yeah. I've got bloomin' Stacey and
Dilly here telling me,
"Do this, do that, make that work."
These handprints
are really special to Char.
They're Mia's handprints
from when she was little.
I'm going to put this frame
that I got from the charity shop
around the hands and then just tidy
up the edges of paint there.
And then she's got it.
Almost like it's a feature.
Stace?
Yeah? You up there?
I'm upstairs.
So what's wrong with these curtains?
Nothing's wrong with them.
But Dan and Char also does shift
work, so both of them,
at some point,
need to sleep during the day.
And this makes it impossible.
I bought these blackout ones.
Hook these up and put them
behind the curtain.
And that'll black out the light,
yeah? Exactly.
Whoa-h*-h*-h*!
That could have been a disaster.
We have to thread one loop. Yeah.
And then thread one of these loops.
Loop.
Peg it. Loop. Peg it. Exactly.
Do you want to see
who does it quicker?
Hold up.
You're halfway through yours!
That's not fair.
Joe, do you get it?
Yes, I get it, Stace. Are you sure?
It's very fiddly, isn't it?
So every other hoop, innit?
No, it's every hoop.
No - one there.
And then you can't put one there.
You have to put one inside.
Why? Why wouldn't you just do it?
Why are you stressing me out?
Because I know that I'm going
to have to undo that whole thing
and do it again.
With the curtains finally in place,
I've got a few more jobs
that Joe can help me with
before he gets going.
So everyone's got, like,
flat-pack furniture like this.
Just to jazz it up a bit,
I thought we could use these.
They look like Meccano bits.
They're just brackets. OK.
But I thought they'd look cute
on all the corners.
You can just glue these ones on.
Brilliant.
And then, look, with them
and handles,
it will look so much better,
won't it?
It will definitely look different.
No, in a good way.
Do you want a drill?
I'm going to glue my bits, if that's
all right with you.
Look - stuck together already.
Downstairs, Iwan's persevering
with his heat-saving mission.
I've got this roll
of heat reflector.
I found this online.
And essentially what you do is put
this behind your radiators
to reflect the heat back
into the rooms.
I'm just going to line this up
just below...
the top of the radiator.
I'm going to use a little bit
of double-sided tape.
Pull it nice and tight.
So it's flat against the wall.
And there we go.
With just one hour left..
Whose idea was it to take the door
off? All right, ready?
..doors need to be re-hung...
I didn't know you knew
how to use a drill.
Oh, behave yourself.
DRILL DROWNS SPEECH
I always use one of these.
..and rooms need to be finished.
Whoa!
We need to put this somewhere.
Telly? Telly.
STACEY STRAINS
God, it's heavier than it looks,
that telly, innit? Yeah.
Aw, that needs to go there, right?
It just needs a bit of weight on it.
Maybe roll a bit,
like a rolling pin.
That's how rolling pins
roll out pastry.
Cece's toys are in.
Have we done it?
I think we've done it. Phew! Yes!
Ah, gross!
Oh, I am dripping.
Well done, team!
Awkwardest... Hottest.
..hottest house by far.
I've got zero energy left.
It's 100% what we said
we were going to do. Yeah.
Let's get out of here.
I think we're sticking.
Char and Dan are getting married
in a few days,
and Char wants to get ready
at home.
They want to be able to walk back
into their home after their wedding
and start a whole fresh life
together.
So it just felt like so much more.
And I honestly
cannot wait to see them walk through
that door tomorrow.
I hope they love it.
A week ago, the Harris-Hawleys'
two-up, two-down
was cramped and cluttered.
Far from the dream home
that soon-to-be-married
Dan and Char would love
to start their new chapter in.
Yay!
I'm so excited!
Oh, my gosh.
How are you? I'm really good,
darling. How are you?
Yeah, I'm good. I feel sick.
I feel happy.
I don't know what to feel right now.
I can't wait to get in and see.
Shall we go? Yes. Come on!
Now they get to see
if all their hard work was worth it.
Once a disorganised space trying
to do too much...
Come in... We've got handles!
..to your living room.
Oh, wow.
Now clear of clutter,
the living room is an inviting,
cosy space that the whole family
can chill out in and have fun.
Oh, my God.
That's incredible.
Because it's rented,
we thought about the circles
because they're easy to cover,
if you have to. Yeah, I love it.
It's a proper grown-up house.
It does, doesn't it? Look at it.
These were your old bookcases. Yeah.
And then we just added shelves.
Centre of the room... Yes. Yeah.
..is your dad's baton.
Dilly has organised literally
everything. I know. Yeah, look.
Wow. This room,
we just wanted to make it
dual purpose.
So if you step back off this rug,
by day,
we painted a little hopscotch
on there. Oh, my God!
Oh, how cool is that?
So it's like a little playroom
there. She's going to love that!
And we know how much Cece
absolutely loves her kitchen.
Yeah. So this lovely unit here...
No way.
..is Cece's kitchen. Nice!
Oh, my God.
They've even... Yeah.
Yeah, we vinyl wrapped it
and sprayed it.
They can play all day in here.
That's it.
And then after bedtime,
you can say goodnight.
Yeah, just spin it round. Cool.
That is amazing. Yeah.
Shall we turn it back to adult?
Yeah. Yes!
Are you ready to see the kitchen?
Kitchen.
An area used as a dumping ground
for the family's clutter...
Come in, come in...
to your kitchen.
Oh, my God. Look at it. Oh, wow!
..is now a multi-functional space
that serves the whole family.
Oh, my goodness! It's got
its own designated space.
Amazing.
Now there's room for all
your Hoovers and big items.
Also, Rob built this.
Oh, my God.
Now you can all sit and have dinner
together.
Amazing. That is so clever,
isn't it?
So, my friends can sit here.
I can cook. Yeah, yeah.
That is amazing.
We've been working so hard to create
a kitchen that's designed
to save space and money.
Dilly's made boxes for "Eat next".
So the stuff that's ready
to be eaten goes in...
Yeah! Yeah.
I know you love bulk buying,
and it really does work
to save money, but the best way
to do it is to know what's coming up
and what's got a bit
of a longer shelf life.
That's such a good idea.
This one, you go, "Right,
this one's ready for now."
You can use it and then move on
to the next one. Yeah.
Still speechless. It's brilliant.
Just seven days ago, the bathroom
was jam-packed and rundown.
So here...
..is your bathroom. Oh, my God!
With a lick of paint,
some serious cleaning and a touch
of bespoke carpentry,
the bathroom has been given
a new lease of life.
Honestly... Wow. And that, if you
believe it, is a wine rack.
Stop it!
There's also another wine rack
on the windowsill
to hold your toilet rolls.
Honestly... Wow.
Again, the angel that is Rob
made an overflow cupboard.
All of your overflows, bulk buys
that don't fit in the kitchen
or don't fit in the bathroom.
But do not buy one of these
for another two years, OK? Deal?
I promise. Shall we go? Yes.
The master bedroom was lacking
in character and full of clutter.
Come in...
..to your bedroom.
Oh, my! Oh, my!
Oh, my God!
Now it is a luxurious space
with practical purpose.
Look, we've got carpet.
I know, like...
I feel like we're in a bougie hotel.
Yeah.
We were hoping to go for that
look. Look at this.
I made that mirror for you
because I made one for myself,
for my wedding.
And these drawers -
thank you, Dilly. Oh, wow!
Everything is folded, labelled.
Look at our wardrobes.
That is your side. Oh, my goodness!
Oh, my shoes!
Trainers. Yeah. Dan.
I couldn't part with all of it.
I understand.
We made room for you.
So everything is organised.
All your clothes are up there.
Bags are up the top,
shoes are down the bottom.
Then, in the middle...
Oh, look! Look at that!
I know how much you love those
handprints. Yeah.
They're so special to you.
So I framed them.
And now you can enjoy them,
like an actual picture.
All your teeth.
How...how did the teeth make it
back here?
Listen, if there's one thing
I will allow people to keep,
it's the teeth.
These are actually your curtains.
Joe helped me put backing on them,
so now when you close them,
they're actually blackout.
Oh, my God. That's amazing.
You'll be able to sleep!
I keep wanting to pinch myself.
"You're going to wake up
from a really great dream
"in a minute, Char." You're not.
I promise you're awake.
We're so, so grateful.
In the girls' room, the ginormous
double bunk bed left limited space
for Mia and Cece.
One...
Let's go!
See your new room!
Oh, my God. Oh, my.
Oh!
Oh, my God.
By repositioning and repurposing
the beds, Rob was able to create
space, built-in storage and access
to their wardrobe, giving Mia
and Cece their own areas
with their own identity.
I love it. Do you like it, Cece?
My teddies up on there!
That's so cool.
Do you like the wallpaper?
I love the wallpaper.
I'm so glad.
This, Mia, is your make-up station.
So all of your stuff.
And then in here,
all your hairstyle.
One of these is Cece's,
so when you're doing your make-up,
you can give her her make-up bag.
I know that you're going
into secondary school,
loads of exams.
So here's a little desk for you
to actually be able to sit down,
write or craft
or do your homework.
My two best friends
are coming over today.
I'm going to be like,
"Look at my new room!"
Are you excited to show them?
Yeah. Oh, it's exciting.
Thank you.
Downstairs, there's one last
surprise for the family.
Hello! You! Hi!
Oh, my God!
Oh, I'm amazed. Absolutely amazing.
ROB: Yes, I know.
It's just everything we dreamed of.
Absolutely incredible.
This is just more than
we could ever imagine.
We are just so glad
that you're happy.
And now, next stop,
wedding! Hey!
Mrs Harris?
I know! And Mrs Joe Swash.
Where are we going?
To the chapel and we're...
ALL: # Gonna get married. #
Come on, Dan.
# Goin' to the chapel and we're
# Gonna get ma-a-arried. #
CHEERING
It has been the most fantastic week.
What an incredible family.
What a joy to be able to watch them
go through that house and just fall
in love all over again.
There was a lot to deal with here
and a lot to get done.
And I am just so proud of our team.
I'm so proud of how hard everybody
worked in this heat as well.
You've held me right up to the bone,
so I'm going. I love you.
I'm going to get married!
Next time you see me,
I'll be Mrs Swash-Solomon.
I can actually say I love my home.
I think it's made us both
really house proud. 100%.
Daddy! We've been really sociable
as well.
We've had so many people over!
We've entertained loads.
We've had people around for food
and barbecues and stuff.
We've had Mia's friends over.
Things like shopping.
We're asking ourselves,
"Do we really need that?"
My bedroom is not too grown-up,
but not too...not too childish.
So it's like right for Cece
and it's right for me.
My favourite room is our bedroom.
We've had so much time
to spend together as a family.
It's been brilliant. Yeah!
We got married. We got married.
Yeah. It was an amazing day.
It was so nice
to be able to get ready at home.
I was so proud to be like,
"Oh, yeah, just come in to mine
"and take photos of me in my wedding
dress, getting ready."
We're happy.
I didn't think we could be happier.
I thought I'd be sick of him,
but I love him even more now.
