The Samala tale of Otter Woman
is a story of bravery and community.

Flying to the stage,
we have Falcon and Hawk.

[both cawing]

They're brothers who live in the mountains
of Samala Village.

To the Channel Islands!

-[cawing]
-[Eddy giggles]

They loved visiting their relatives
across the ocean,

especially their best friend.

Haku. I'm Otter Woman
from the Chumash Island Village.

[smoke hissing]

-[clears throat]
-[chuckles]

[all gasping, exclaiming]

Oh no! We can't fly in this fog.

We'll never make it to the islands
to visit Otter Woman.

Never say never. I'll find a way
to bring our villages together.

-Go, Otter Woman!
-You can do it!

And so, brave Otter Woman
swam across the ocean in the foggy sea.

She discovered underwater tunnels

-that connected to the mountain lakes.
-Whoa.

When she was tired, she came up for air

-and rest on the lake shore.
-[panting]

Lake after lake, she finally made it to…

-Phew. Samala Village!
-[giggles]

Now our villages can always be together.

And that's why
the Samala Chumash thank Otter

for connecting our villages
to the islands.

-[all cheering]
-[woman] Beautiful!

-[man 1] Beautiful story.
-[man 2] Yeah!

[man 3 chuckles]

Oh, I'm so proud of you, kiddos.

I love that story.

It's one of my favorites from
our Samala ancestor, Maria Solares.

It'd be so cool to be an ocean animal.

Yeah, even if the waves seem scary.

[chuckling] Hey,
my waves weren't that bad.

[alarm blaring]

Rangers, we have a big, stinky problem!

I was collecting water samples
and discovered a mysterious sludge.

It's all over the park!

-What?
-Ew!

Oh no. This looks like oil. There might be
an old pipe in the park somewhere.

-We'll help.
-Yeah.

-Good work, Rangers.

It's up to us to stop the oil leaks.

Let's go!

Ugh. Even without my bear nose,
I can smell the oil.

We must be close.

[all] The Trickster Trio?

This is horrible. And perfect.

Once we scare away everyone with our mess,

we'll finally have the park to ourselves
for whatever we want.

T'aya means "abalone" in Samala.

get away with our necklaces.

The oil is ruining Spirit Park too.

from our real prank.

We knew you wouldn't be able

to resist protecting every crook,
cranny and critter, or whatever.

So, while you were being heroes,
we built our best prank yet.

Yeah. You may have stopped the goo
in Spirit Park,

but wait 'til our goo gadget
takes over the ocean.

-[grunts]
-[groans] Rabbit!

-[Raccoon] Now the surprise is ruined.

This is terrible!
I wish I had my t'aya necklace.

[gasps] What if we make
new t'aya necklaces?

Maybe we can use them
to help us transform.

if you're really the Spirit Rangers,

but I need all the help I can get.

We Chumash used tomols
to reach the islands.

You're gonna need one too.

It's just like the one
in the visitor's center!

How do we get to the islands?

I would have thought
the Spirit Rangers knew this story.

The lakes are connected
through secret passages.

I made them myself.

That was the easy part. Now it's up to you
to steer the boat to the ocean.

-Be on the lookout for sharp stalagmites.
-Sharp?

-[gasps]
-A sea monster or two.

Sea monster?

And watch out for black goo.

If we get stuck,
we'll be trapped in the caves forever.

Forever?

Summer, Kodi, I don't think I can do this.
Not without my shell to protect me.

We have to be brave.

Just like Otter did
when she made the cave passageways.

We can do this.

Okay. As long as we stick together.

-[Lizard gasps]
-[all scream]

[chuckles]

I knew you were the real Spirit Rangers.

You didn't believe them this whole time.

Only Spirit Rangers would do anything
to protect their land and place.

[clears throat] By showing your bravery,
you've earned the gift of the ocean.

Time for the ceremony.

-Stingray speed!

[yells in frustration]

That wasn't supposed to happen.

[Raccoon yelling]

Huh. Didn't see that coming.

Good thing we got all the goo we need
from the goo gadget.

[chuckles]

The tricksters keep getting bigger
and bigger with all this goo.

But if we stop the goo gadget,
they won't have any more to use.

No more goo means no more monsters.

If we get out of the water,
we'll lose our ocean powers,

but we can still stop that goo. Let's go.

The pipe leak was coming
from the Channel Islands,

but it mysteriously sealed shut.

It's an unexplained phenomenon.

It's like the island spirits fought back.

Sounds like we need
to make another theater show.

Water protector versus oil pipe.

We'll need to clean up
some leftover leaks.

-Kids, you wanna help?
-[Kodi] Yes!

-[Eddy] We're on it!

I just can't figure out
how that pipe stopped leaking.

It's so odd.

There has to be an explanation.
