Last week in Asheville...
This is for you.
This is the weed
Ash picked for Jordan.
- You foraged for me.
- I did.
Which blossomed over dinner.
You're just a very open
and genuine person.
And I kind of feel like
I could tell you anything, kind of.
This is the text Kris sent Adrian
after their date.
This is how he feels
about dating in South Beach.
This is Ross, the perfect match
for Reagan
to whet her dating appetite.
- So...
- Opposites attract?
Thanks.
Now she's ready to go deeper
with someone new.
This is the face Kesun dreams
about caressing.
Like, that nose, oh, my God.
Like, I wanna touch it.
She's hoping Miami has one like it.
Four single New Yorkers
put their hearts
into the hands of this film crew
who whisked them across the country
on a dating adventure
and do the swiping for them.
This is Swiping America.
A rom doc in eight parts.
I love... I love dating.
I actually love casual dating.
I'm very extroverted, so it's really
easy for me to go on a first date.
It's almost exactly
like doing a haircut.
It's like a one-hour conversation
where you're getting to know someone.
It's long-term dating
that's a little bit
more challenging for me.
- Hi.
- Hello.
- Is that your dog?
- Yeah, this is my dog, Mosie.
- Oh, how cute. Hi.
- Cutie pie. Yeah.
- Nice to meet you.
- Hi.
We are looking for some
really sound advice for dating
and just for going through this.
We've been trying
to date for ourselves
and haven't found the right person
so maybe if we meet new people
kinda outside of where we're from
- we will find that person.
- Absolutely.
- But it happens.
- Yeah, exactly.
You're looking for a mate,
I'm assuming.
- We are.
- You got to work at it.
How long have you guys been married?
- Sixty-eight years.
- Oh, my goodness.
Well, we're going to
be married 70 years.
Yeah, that's amazing.
Our parents met
and my mother's raving about me,
what a great son I am.
Our mother decided
- a good son makes a good husband.
- Son.
But when he called me,
I said, "I'm sorry, I'm busy."
I didn't wanna go out with somebody
my mother found for me.
- Smart girl.
- It was really meant to be
because soon after we started dating
I knew she was the one for me.
Every night when we go to sleep,
we hold hands.
That's so sweet.
Get up in the morning
without brushing our teeth,
I kiss her.
These are silly things.
- Of course.
- But you have to be silly.
So do you think it's better
to try it before you buy it?
Definitely.
Definitely.
I got lucky.
I'll tell you one thing.
Sex is very important.
It certainly is. It certainly is.
But remember,
it was a totally different time.
The word "virgin"
was a very important word.
I don't think it exists anymore.
And, you know, in those days,
you didn't get any freebies.
This is a true story.
You were gambling.
Yeah, I get it.
Now there's a lot of freebies.
- Really... enjoyed speaking to you.
- Thank you.
You young ladies, I wish you
find the joy and the happiness
when you find your mate, as I did.
- Thank you.
- Yes, we hope so.
You have a lot to look forward to.
Can we dance?
Would you guys like to dance?
I'm so excited for Miami.
I love being in the sun.
I'm feeling very open
and really optimistic
about all the suitors.
Facts about Miami.
Miami is considered to be a g*y Mecca
that attracts more than one million
LGBTQ visitors a year.
And 68% of Miamians
say they're sexually adventurous
in the bedroom.
Are you guys sexually adventurous?
There's some things
I certainly would not do.
I've never pegged anyone.
Yeah... Yeah.
I have, I guess.
Jordan...
We've been texting.
We did have, like,
this instant connection.
When she walked in, it was,
like, her smile, I was just like...
I don't know, it was just like
a breath of fresh air.
In many ways.
I think we're, like,
emotionally compatible, for sure.
But I just don't see anything there,
like, intimately.
I think she knows that,
but she's just a solid person.
And, yeah, I hope
she finds her person, you know?
And I hope that, like,
we're, like, we remain friends.
Ross just texted me
"Happy one week
anniversary!"
That's amazing.
He posted this sunset,
and I was like, "That's beautiful."
And he goes, "Like you."
- There is a charm to it.
- Of course.
I got a match.
I matched
with quite a few guys, actually.
It's a very large
q*eer community in Miami.
I'd say that the... options here
are much better for me.
- How many did you get?
- I got, like, 25.
Miami is working out for you.
One, two, three, four, five, six.
I love Date Zero so far.
Yeah, I would agree with that.
Even if you didn't have
the most chemistry with him?
Yeah, even if I have zero chemistry.
You never know who you're gonna meet
and what their personality
will be like
what kind of story they have.
It's fun.
I'm really looking forward
to some unique conversations.
Hopefully there's something unique
to each of them
that I've never met
in my life, you know?
I don't know, it's hard to,
like, not be judgmental
with this kind of stuff,
because we are judging people.
That's the whole point
of, like, online dating
that's what you're doing,
like, you don't know this person
you're plucking them out of thin air
and, like, hopefully it works out.
It's like, how do you force yourself?
I know force is not the word
but, like, how do you
welcome yourself to be more open?
We got a couple matches.
None of these people feel like
they're a good match for me on paper.
There's nothing about them
that is particularly interesting
to me.
It is very interesting because...
even in a different city,
I'm feeling, like, the same
like, kind of, disconnect
as I feel in New York.
Not saying that I'm, like, completely
blowing these people off
but I think none of them
are really my type.
Yeah.
My sister thinks I only go
for tall, dark, and handsome.
And she would also say
someone who looks sketchy.
I'm very guarded
and people don't necessarily know
how I feel about them,
until I kiss them, basically.
I ignore red flags. I am habitual
at the ignoring the flags.
My Achilles heel is validation.
When I was younger,
it was like nobody saw my mind.
And then as I've gotten older
the guys that I dated
are constantly telling me
how clever and brilliant I am.
And I joke, I'm like,
"Hey, eyes down here, buddy."
"Am I still hot, though?"
Hello.
Hi. I'm Kesun.
- Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you.
Thanks for coming.
- How are you?
- Good, and yourself?
- Good. Have you been here before?
- No, first time.
Can I creep in a little bit?
- I don't know.
- I don't know if, if this is...
I don't know
if anyone's gonna stop you, so...
- Hi.
- Hey.
- Hi. Krishan.
- Hey. Kris, nice to meet you.
Nice outfit.
- Nice to meet you.
- I'm Kris, nice to meet you.
How many ones have you...
One of these is water, I promise.
Exactly.
Hi, nice to meet you.
Pleasure.
Hey, look at your little buddy there.
- This is Mosie.
- Hey, Mosie.
Don't be intimidated, even though
I look like a Russian villain.
You look fantastically
villainous, yeah.
- Sorry, that's my dog.
- Is... Is that your dog?
She just wanted to make sure
you're not a bad guy.
Mosie, he's nice.
- How's it going?
- Good.
- Thanks for coming.
- Good to see you.
- You too.
- How you doing?
- Cheers.
- Awesome, cheers. Yes...
Cin cin.
Where are you from originally?
Well, I'm Korean,
if that's what you're asking.
Well...
What part of New York City
are you in?
I'm in Chelsea, so,
right next to Scores, actually.
You're laughing, I've only...
I'm trying to remember
if I've been to Scores.
- I'm sure you have.
- Jog my memory.
Is it the club,
like, upstairs, downstairs...
It's a strip club.
I've not been there.
You look like you're gonna puke,
you okay?
What do you do?
Well...
Oh, wait.
Hold on. What's the question?
I work with adult entertainment.
- In p*rn*graphy.
- Cool.
Do you like it?
I do enjoy it.
- Pays the bills.
- Yeah.
That's all we can ask.
How about you?
I... I work in data science for tech.
Oh, cool.
Data scientist.
Like a statistician.
No idea what that is.
Which is to say, like,
if you're looking for gold
- not... not here.
- Right. Not here, not here.
- I got questions about your bio.
- Okay.
You have a weakness for bad b*tches.
If you're bad, I'm probably
going to be interested.
What is a... what's a bad b*tch?
- I mean...
- Okay.
Sorry, my dog's licking my arm a lot.
It's okay.
I'd lick your arm, too.
Prove it.
I'm fine.
We'll go there.
"If I f*ck you three times,
I'mma wife you."
So are you good at sex
or you have lots of wives?
No, I'm saying I'm selective.
I don't like to just throw my cat
out there at everybody.
Yeah, I don't wanna just eat any cat.
You know?
- I get along with Leos.
- Yeah.
- Amazingly.
- Yes, that's real.
There's, like,
a healthy bit of narcissism.
Yeah, Pisces and Scorpio
are a good match.
We're, like, best friends.
I mean, you've already
friend-zoned me.
It's only been five minutes.
That's... that's fine.
I'm guessing you're not Mormon.
- I was, yeah.
- Oh, you are a Mormon.
- Okay.
- I'm not, not now, but I was.
- Okay. Oh, interesting.
- Yeah, I grew up Mormon. But, yeah.
I left the church when I was 26.
Points.
I would go to church and I would
actually learn about sin from church.
And then I would come home
and make my Barbies do angel dust.
Wait, like PCP?
I don't know,
I didn't know what it was
but they were addicted.
I have a twin brother who's g*y.
- He's here, actually.
- Ashton Kutcher? No?
'Cause like...
I was like, "Where's the lube?"
I'm just saying, like...
But, like, the ark, is weird.
The ark is pretty out there.
It was a sex boat.
So, I make really good
Korean barbecue.
- Korean barbecue?
- Yeah.
You know I'm Korean?
Yeah, we'll see about that.
Oh, yeah?
You're gonna fall in love, girl.
You gotta watch out.
- Thank you. See ya, yeah.
- See you again, all right?
Derek, he's a little weirdo.
I liked it.
Let's see.
So, what else?
I don't know.
I guess, like, did you...
Like, do you have, like, a favorite
book or something like that?
I don't read, to be honest.
- Can I...
- Oh, yeah.
- My hands are always cold.
- I'm like, they're so cold.
But I just wanted to,
like, you know...
- Yeah.
- Take a moment.
I like it.
You seem like an amazing person.
I can... Yeah, your energy's
very calm. Yeah.
I would love to maybe
see you again before I leave?
Yeah, maybe.
- Yeah.
- Let's see what we can do.
I have... I have
a 14-year-old daughter.
- What?
- I know.
- Are you serious?
- Yeah.
Can we drink to that?
- Let's drink to that.
- Where does your daughter live?
- She lives in New York.
- Yeah?
I'm not someone who, I think,
makes the best first impression
- I think, I get better over time.
- I don't think that's true.
- That's very sweet.
- You're making
a good impression now, so...
- I'm glad you think so.
- Yeah, I think so.
Well, I promise I get better.
You're good, don't worry.
I'm trying to formulate my Zad text.
I was gonna tell her she made my day,
and I want to see her.
Like, Zad is just,
like, naturally gorgeous.
And also, like, her energy
is, like, really beautiful.
I do like her a lot.
I wasn't expecting that.
- Can I give you a hug?
- Yeah.
- Thank you, I'll see you.
- Good night.
- Had fun? Bye.
- Yes.
- Bye.
- Okay, bye.
- Enjoy.
- All right, I'll see you later.
- Thank you.
- All right. Bye!
- Bye.
- All right, take care.
He's the only one
out of the seven guys
that I told I have a daughter.
Which is interesting.
I'm so surprised that
there is more than one person
that I wanna hang out with
and they're completely,
completely different.
I think Derek is really sweet,
and cute, and, like, weird.
In the best possible way.
I spend a lot of time explaining
that calling someone a sick f*ck
is not derogatory.
Like, that means I really like you.
And Larry seems
a little bit more, like...
this is someone that I could
actually maybe think about
like, seriously dating.
- I think Don is...
- Don is sexual.
I looked over at him,
and I was like, "Oh, hello."
I know, I was like,
"Stop being so sexy, professor."
Please.
Oh, look how great his body is.
Don... He has a really nice smile.
- He has an amazing smile.
- Yeah, I love that.
- Yeah.
- Hi!
Hi!
You look so happy.
- Yeah.
- I think I'm hungry.
Which one? Who?
I like Zad.
She's very, very pretty.
Like, sultry, sexy.
I mean, Zad is dope.
Did you already ask her out again?
Of course, like, immediately. Yeah.
- Really?
- Oh, yeah, for sure.
I was, like, give me her number now.
She's, like, very beautiful.
Like, edgy, sophisticated.
Oh, my goodness,
this is my favorite part about this
is, like, being surprised.
Yeah, I was just, like,
well, I was pleasantly surprised.
- Hey, Miami!
- Cheers.
- Oh, cheers.
- Cin cin.
Cheers.
- So, I had six dates.
- What?
Yeah, I know.
Three of the guys were, honestly,
guys that I'm not very attracted to.
But Luiz, he's, like, a sex worker.
And there were times
when we looked into each other's eyes
and I was like, well, naturally,
we would just make out right now.
That being said, he also didn't ask
a lot of questions of me.
Derrick was lovely, but by far
the most, I would say, soft-spoken
is a nice way of putting
how I felt with him.
And, to me, Derrick has, like,
the most handsome face ever.
Like, his eyebrows are perfect,
he has beautiful eyes.
- He has, like, a really nice smile.
- My god.
Who are you the most excited
like, if there was one person
you could text right now
who would you feel the most
comfortable or interested in texting?
I don't know.
Don was really handsome.
And he has three teenage kids.
- Oh, wow.
- Yeah.
It's so cool.
I know, he's the only person
I've told that I have a daughter.
Oh, you told him?
- Yeah, but I didn't tell...
- I love that.
I know, I didn't tell him
anything else.
He was, like, so surprised.
One of my favorite ways to flirt
is to text a guy at night
and they're like,
"What are you doing?"
I love to say,
"I just put in my retainer."
I can talk to anyone.
Banter-wise.
But Piper is very hard for me
to talk about, you know.
What I went through
with Piper in my twenties
especially, has made me, like...
you know, a totally different person
than anyone else in the room,
everywhere I go.
I came to New York when I was 20
and I was leaving, like,
Utah, Mormon, everything behind.
And then I met a Mormon from Utah
within a month of living here.
He was handsome and smart
and obsessed
with getting married to me.
And that was all I was ever told
I was supposed to do.
Got married when I was 22
and then when I was 23,
Piper was born.
Piper was diagnosed
with a very rare syndrome
called cerebro-costo-mandibular
syndrome.
There are only about 50 people
in the world who have it.
She is the most extreme
to have survived birth.
So, she's never been able
to live at home with me.
She was in the NICU for seven months
but she's since been
in long-term care facilities
around the city,
and outside of the city.
I don't talk about it
on dates all the time
because talking about Piper...
it's just very hard
to do that briefly.
Communicating and speaking
is my love language.
It's, like,
what makes me the happiest.
That's why socializing
and relationships
are so important to me
and I happen to have a child
who cannot speak.
And...
I've never heard my own child
call me "Mom."
And I've been a mom
for almost 15 years.
And if I had truly one wish
I would just be able to have
a conversation with her.
I have to remind myself all the time
not to hate myself
for caring about the way I look
and the way I dress
and having friends.
I've just had to let go any judgment
because there is a lot of judgment.
I've also learned over the years that
there's no amount of sacrifices
that I can make
that will make her healthy.
- Sorry.
- You don't have to be sorry.
It's sad.
This is such a sad interview,
I'm wearing such a dumb outfit.
- Can we redo the whole thing?
- No.
Can you Photoshop this out?
I had a strong reaction
to the matches that I had.
Just because it made me feel like
maybe I wasn't sure
of what I was looking for
exactly in a person.
But, Larry, he reminded me of someone
that I could have met
through friends.
Like, he... there's something
about him
that made me feel really comfortable.
Definitely, I was
the most attracted to him.
I'm excited, I'm still really excited
to see what happens next.
Sweet baby.
You going sailing?
Zad. I loved her style.
Very pretty.
Carries herself in a way
that I'm very attracted to.
Yeah, I was like, "Holy sh*t, okay.
All right. I like her."
- Hey, what's up?
- Hello!
- Step. Yeah...
- Thanks.
So we got a...
I picked out a spot over here.
Cute.
Hey-oh.
- Cheers.
- Cheers.
- I'm so happy to see you.
- Likewise.
Our conversation yesterday
was so quick.
- I know.
- And I don't know...
- Oh, thank you.
- You're...
You just broke the touch barrier,
oh, my God.
- Oh, sorry!
- No, that... No, that's good.
- That's good.
- That was quick.
You have... Oh, my God.
So forward.
Right for... right for this,
right for the body.
So, anyway, no pets.
- No pets.
- No kids.
No kids.
Like, do you live
in an apartment or a house?
- Yeah.
- I live in Chelsea.
I think I've only been to Manhattan.
Yeah, the... Chelsea is in Manhattan.
- It's on, like...
- Oh, cool. I've been there.
I know exactly where you...
I know exact...
Yeah, so, me and my best friend,
we grew up...
I... I didn't mention this.
I was homeschooled.
Did... I didn't tell...
Wait, you were... you were
homeschooled, like, by yourself?
- Yeah, I have... Like, I...
- Oh, my God. Tell me everything.
From the time that I was,
like, I guess kindergarten
- Yeah, right.
- Until my freshman year
of high school, I was homeschooled.
And I went to public high school
for a year and a half.
I walked around with a b*ner 90...
99% of the time.
So, you... you ever see those kids
that just hold... hold the book
on their lap the whole...
Anything round.
Anything round that I saw.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God, that's hilarious.
What is sexier
than talking about boobs
and 13-year-ol erections.
- I'm so turned on right now.
- Right?
- You're funny.
- Thanks.
- I'm having a good time.
- Same, me too, I love that you came.
Me too.
Hey!
- Hi. How's it going?
- You look beautiful.
I see you got your shoes already.
You look great.
- Better brought swimsuit.
- Yeah.
- I have to.
- Hello, guys. Welcome aboard.
You're more than welcome to jump in.
Oh, you're stuck. She's stuck.
- Oh, no.
- Oh, God.
That was not part of the plan.
Hey!
It's, like,
my favorite part of a boat
just, like, waving
at the drunk people.
- All right. Cin cin.
- Cin cin.
- Could be a little sweeter, maybe.
- Yeah, yeah, me too.
- Like...
- You think it's that...
I don't know what that is.
Do you wanna add
a little more mezcal?
Maybe.
We're just like, by the time
we have this drink
we're gonna be turning around.
Come on. Swish, swish.
This is, like, very...
you'll never forget this.
- No, I'm never gonna forget this.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
- Okay. Ready? One more time.
- One more.
- Okay.
It is what it is.
At this point, it is what it is.
Like...
Tell me something juicy.
Okay, what do you want?
How long have you been single?
My wife and I separated.
It was the beginning of the pandemic
and it was, like, St. Patrick's Day.
Okay.
I was in denial for a little bit,
and calling her
and being, like "Oh, can we
make this work" and all that.
And I... that was more from a place
of I was uncomfortable
- with my new reality.
- Totally. It's a big change, yeah.
But I'm kind of excited
that... that, like,
there's something better
than what I was going through
for so long out there.
- Yeah.
- And so I'm totally open to
experiencing that again, so.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
I mean, being in love
is the best thing ever.
- It's not bad.
- It's the best sh*t ever.
- Right?
- It's such a nice feeling
to be in love and loving someone
and having someone love me back.
- It's really, really lovely.
- Yeah, it is.
I was very pleasantly surprised
when you walked in.
It was a pleasant surprise,
I'm not gonna lie.
- Like, I had...
- Same.
I didn't have many expectations.
I was just, like, "Okay."
Yeah, you're very pretty.
You have great sense of, like, style
and you seem like
you're gonna be interesting
and, like, that's important.
That's important.
So if we wanted
to have sex right now.
- It has to be silent sex.
- It's gotta be fast.
- It's gotta be... for it to happen.
- All right, Larry.
Without these cams... these cams.
There's no chance that any of these
cameras are rolling right now.
Like, that red light
doesn't mean anything.
I think my friends aren't home,
if you wanna come by to the house.
- Oh, that's.
- We can totally do that, yeah.
That sounds awesome,
yeah, let's do it.
There's a pool, we can hang out.
Oh, sh*t.
Let's do it.
Honestly, I have to tell you
I was, like, so pleasantly surprised
at how weird you are.
'Cause I wasn't sure.
You thought I was normal?
No.
- We made it.
- We made it.
Can you believe it?
Nobody, like, fell off.
Nobody fell off. You're here.
We made it.
- Thank you for coming.
- Thank you.
Yeah, that was fun.
- What are you doing tonight?
- Nothing.
Do you wanna have dinner at my house?
- Okay.
- Yeah.
- What kinda food do you want?
- I don't know.
Well, you know the area.
Where do you go?
There's Thatch,
vegan spot in midtown.
Okay, I like it.
- Do you eat meat?
- Yes.
- I'm sorry. Sorry, need protein.
- Okay. Okay.
- Okay.
- I know.
Is this the end?
- I mean, it's just...
- I know.
- I get it.
- Yeah.
It's kind of weird to say, like,
a make or deal thing.
- Yeah. It's very important to you.
- But...
- It's a value. It's a moral.
- Yeah. I get it.
- It's a belief.
- Yeah.
So, I mean, if you're open to...
To veganism.
I mean, it is a lot to ask
on a second date.
- I was just asking.
- Yeah, and I'm telling you
- I don't know. Yeah.
- Just wondering.
Okay.
Oh, my God.
My pitfalls in choosing partners.
I like... I like pretty girls
and sometimes
I get excited too quickly.
I'm the... like...
I'm like standard l*sbian, you know?
We fall in love super hard.
We plan so far ahead
based upon three interactions
with a person.
Like, "Oh, my gosh,
we both like popcorn."
No sh*t, there are billions of people
in the world that like popcorn.
Like, doing the math of, like
"This doesn't mean
we're aligned as people.
It just means we are human beings,
and I'm not that special."
You know I mean?
But it be like that sometimes.
It was just weird. It was just
kind of weird how it happened.
It was, it just got super serious
out of nowhere.
The veganism thing kind of just, like
it will eventually
probably be a thing, I'm, like...
- On principle
- Oh, I see.
Would you ever become
a vegan for your partner?
- No.
- Like, if there's somebody
you decided that you actually love.
Oh, someone that I actually
decided that loved?
Yeah, but, like, to me, I'm like
you let people be
who they are, that, I was...
That was way too soon
for that conversation.
So that tells me, like,
it's definitely a thing for you.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know. It just kind of
was just, like, meh, for me.
- Yeah.
- So.
Hi, how are you?
This is Larry.
How are you?
Yeah, awesome. How are you?
- Good, how are you?
- Great.
This little nugget.
She loves Ashley.
It's okay.
I think he's legit.
Mosie's unsure about Larry
and now we're all freaked out.
We're... reevaluating everything.
- We did.
- Yeah.
Oh, we have rum.
Do you wanna go out to the pool?
Yeah.
- So...
- Wanna put your feet in the water?
Of all of the places
I can put this down
I put it down on a rock.
I don't know.
What to say about that, Larry.
Yeah, I've got the luck of the Irish.
I get lucky sometimes.
Do you identify with, like, being...
or do you feel, like,
a closeness with those cultures
that all the cultures that you have
or is it like...
is there one, like,
that's more heavy than the other?
I would say Polish is my closest
because it's the most dominant.
Do you speak Polish?
Like, I know of, like...
Jak si? masz?
Chod? tu, daj mi buziaka.
How are you?
Come here, give me a kiss.
- Oh, cute.
- Right?
It's stuff that your grandmother
would say to you.
Yeah.
- That's so sweet.
- Yeah, right, it was dumb.
Dork.
Nice.
- Nice leg.
- Thanks.
Very nice legs. So smooth.
Oh, my God.
I wanted to go on a date with Luiz.
I asked him out, and he said yes,
but he and I were texting
and, you know,
I didn't get, fully the sense
that the feeling of attraction
was reciprocated.
Like, he hadn't really hearted
many of my messages
or responded to them.
There wasn't a lot of texts
coming back from him.
I'm very rarely in a situation
where I find myself
talking to someone
who I'm not sure
if they're attracted to me
or if they're interested
in going on a date with me.
And so, it felt very foreign to me
to kind of be in a position
where I'm vulnerable
and saying, "Hey, I'm not sure
if you're actually interested in me."
When I'm not certain
it makes me feel like
I could misinterpret
someone else's behaviors or actions.
I don't like being in that position.
Because of that,
I think I'd rather go on a date
with someone who I know is really
excited to go on the date with me.
So I think I'm gonna ask Derrick
to go on a date.
I am very turned by Derrick's looks.
He's quite sweet. He's a Miami native
so I feel like if there's anyone
to show me around Miami
he might be one of them.
So, hopefully, we can have
a good date tomorrow.
Wow, your back is so strong.
Date Zero Don was my first match.
He's got a very easy energy,
a very calm presence
and the first few texts
were very sweet and charming.
And we had, like, a very cute,
little text flirtation going on
you know, and then there
was something that shifted.
I looked at my phone and I had,
like, seven texts from him
and they were, like,
very long paragraphs.
It turned me off,
like, immediately.
Got 'em.
So, what are you going to say
to this man?
You know, nothing he's really
saying is too much, to be honest.
It's just the volume.
The volume.
He's just getting his...
his words out for the day.
I definitely
can easily feel smothered.
I've had people really try
to control me
in certain relationships
and so I think if I feel someone
trying to control me
or even a glimpse of it,
it makes me want to run away.
What I like to call
my "light switch move"
which is flip it like a light switch,
and it's done.
I did that with the Church.
I did that with my marriage.
I did that with the last guy.
I'm... I'm very, like...
g*n shy about commitment, at times.
Or, like, I'm afraid
of losing my independence.
I'm afraid that someone's
going to smother me.
So, getting so many texts so early on
is making me feel
a little bit... smothered.
Mosie.
When it comes to, like, dating,
I think the issue for me is, like
getting comfortable
and trusting other people.
So, when it comes to, like,
feeling comfortable around sex
or feeling comfortable
in new environments
or meeting new people
which are all, like,
important facets of dating
that's when I...
I really get uncomfortable
and it takes a long time
for me to get to that point
with other people.
- Wow, Derrick, this is so nice.
- All right.
So we have a cute little setup here.
- I hope you will enjoy this.
- This is very sweet.
Yeah, I'm very excited, thank you.
Of course.
You're putting
a little smile on my face.
Aw, that's very sweet.
Cheers.
What has been your, like,
overall impression of Miami?
It just feels,
like, lovely and relaxing.
It's beautiful.
Miami's a fun place.
There's always something new.
And so many people come here.
A lot of artists come.
I ran into Miley Cyrus
a couple of times.
- Do you like Miley Cyrus?
- I do.
Growing up, my father would listen to
like, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston.
- Oh, your dad would?
- Shania Twain.
- Is he g*y?
- Selin... I think that's...
No, he's not, he's not g*y.
This feels a little sexual,
to be honest.
Are you more of an extrovert
or an introvert would you say?
I think I'm an extrovert.
I have my moments
where I'm, like, a little shy
but sometimes
there's not time to be shy.
Like, just put yourself out there.
And life is more exciting
that way, you know?
I think so too.
But I'm more of an introvert.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
- But I'm trying...
- You're making an effort
so that's good,
that's the first step.
You're doing a great job,
so that's good.
Thank you. Very sweet of you.
Okay, let's get you
out of your comfort zone.
Do you have any, like,
embarrassing stories, or anything?
That's rude.
- Hi!
- Hey.
- How are you?
- I'm good.
- Nice to see you.
- Nice to see you.
Thank you for coming.
Absolutely. Thank you for coming.
Pleash'.
- How you been?
- Good, how have you been?
Did you have a good day?
I did.
Did you get to the beach at all?
- The water? No?
- No, no, unfortunately.
Yeah. It was gorgeous,
it was a beautiful day.
It started cloudy,
I was up super early
I figured I'd just, like, get up
because I knew I had
a lot of things to do today.
Should we get...
Should we get a drink?
I would love a drink.
One of the first exhibitions
that I was put in
when I was in graduate school,
was curated by now friend of mine.
We were living in the suburbs
of Cincinnati, Ohio.
It was a very American experience.
So he tried to eat another banana,
and I said, "No. No.
You don't get another banana
until you get me to the airport."
Oh, yeah, thank you, I'd love some.
I have to catch up.
I've been talking too much.
Thank you.
All right, so you
and Mosie live together.
What's your like...
What's your arrangement with your...
Remind me... You didn't... I don't
think you said the name of your...
You have a 14-year-old,
but you didn't say the name.
- Piper.
- Piper, okay, Piper.
So Piper... Piper is 14.
She turns 15 in May.
And Piper has never lived with me.
She has...
She has... physical disabilities.
And she's lived in a...
She's lived in, like,
a care facility her whole life.
But I visit her, like, quite a bit.
And I FaceTime with her.
I've been Face Timing with her
while I'm away.
It's very hard to, like,
describe the situation quickly.
It's okay, you don't have
to describe it quickly.
Yeah, so she has,
like, skeletal abnormalities.
She's, like,
missing some of her ribs.
And her rib cage
is smaller than a typical person
so her lungs can't expand all the way
when she breathes
so she has to be assisted
by a ventilator.
She has a trach.
You know, I think what's hard...
What makes it hard to talk
about her briefly is that it's, like
sounds like she's
a very fragile little person.
- Doesn't sound like that.
- Oh, good, yeah.
She's a super cool, little person.
She's very, like, very creative.
And, like, she's a boss.
Like, she.. she really is boss.
Like, she's the boss
of her care facility.
And everybody...
everybody holds her
at a very high level of respect
like, in the facility,
because she is such a queen.
She really understands
her wants and needs.
She doesn't let anything get
in the way of achieving those things.
She's non-verbal.
Like, we've really had
to build our bond
in very outside-of-the-box ways.
But we figured it out, you know.
It's funny, she wanted
to FaceTime me the other day
and it was, like,
it was really interesting.
Like, as soon
as she got me on FaceTime
she was, like, showing me
these dolls that she was making.
And then she, like, closed...
She just, like,
hung up on me right away.
She was like "I'm done."
Well, my 13-year-old
does the same thing.
Yeah, okay,
that makes me feel better.
Yeah.
I know it's wild, right?
- It's wild.
- It's not so wild.
- No?
- No.
Really?
I mean, it's life.
Yeah.
And it's interesting
because I never really...
even after all this time
I still really struggle to find out
how to talk about it with people.
Because if you haven't
ever met someone
with extreme physical disabilities
people don't know how to react to it.
And I always feel
very sensitive to that.
I'm, like, "Aw, man,
I feel like I made it sad now."
Well, I don't feel heavy.
And I really appreciate
you sharing about Piper.
- Yeah.
- Thank you.
Cool.
- Thanks!
- You're welcome.
Well, let's keep hanging out.
You wanna go somewhere else now?
Well...
I think... I think
we should hang out again.
Yeah.
I think I'm gonna go home.
- Do you mind?
- No, I don't mind at all.
But I do... I would like
to hang out again.
- Would you?
- Yes, I would, I would.
Okay, cool.
Don is a very nice man
who I would like to take my time
getting to know more.
Thank you for dinner, it was so fun.
Yeah.
Yeah.
- All right.
- Okay.
- Call me.
- I'll call you.
I'll call you, I'll text you, yeah.
- I don't know what to say, bye.
- All right, see you later.
Don is very easy
to talk about things with.
He actually, like, didn't bat an eye.
I was like "I'm saying
some pretty dark sh*t right now
and you're just,
like, chewing pizza."
And it does say a lot about Don
and what he's experienced in life.
And his approach.
It's, like, gorgeous.
Hi!
How's it going over there?
Hi, Larry.
How are... How was it? How are you?
It was good. It was great.
Oh, good.
So we like him.
It was fun.
Bye.
Bye.
Oh, man, Don is texting already.
Have you been in many relationships?
I've been in three main ones.
- Oh, yeah?
- Yeah.
I've been in three relationships.
My first one was, like, very young.
- I think I was, like, 19.
- Okay.
That's when I met my first boyfriend.
It's also when I came out.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
I didn't come out until I was 25, 26.
Oh, but you were in a relationship
- with someone at 19.
- Oh, yeah, I lived a secret life.
I was like Hannah Montana,
basically, you know?
Oh, my God.
But I did have a relationship,
and then my last one was six years.
So it was a long time.
- Yeah.
- When did that end? Can I ask?
That one ended the beginning of 2021.
So, I've been, like, single
for a little over a year now.
- Okay.
- It's nice
but also, sometimes, it does
get a little lonely, so, yeah...
- Yeah. Yes, of course.
- You know what I mean?
I don't know
if you can relate, but...
Yeah, I get it.
You know.
So, well, I have a nice place
if you'd like to come over
to my place
we can continue chatting,
if you're interested in that.
- I'm down.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
- What?
No, nothing.
Why are you laughing?
Party.
- You're very handsome.
- You're very handsome, too.
- Thank you, that's nice.
- And a good kisser.
So are you. Yeah.
Yes.
Well, now, I feel embarrassed.
So what did I say earlier?
Just go through it.
Fair, yeah.
There's no way out but through.
- Yeah.
- So, yeah.
Yeah.
How was y'all's week?
I don't know
why I wanna look at you first.
I heard you had a...
Oh, you just shimmied on it.
So it was clearly good.
No, I had a great time.
Well, he just texted me.
What did he say?
He said, "Did you get
your beauty rest?
Not that you need any,
of course."
- He's so sweet, yeah.
- So cute!
- He's cute.
- And then I asked him
how he slept, and he said,
"With a smile on my face."
- Oh, my god.
- So sweet, I know.
- He's so sweet.
- That is so cute.
Did you have, like, butterflies?
- Yeah, definitely.
- That's so cute.
He was really sweet, yeah.
- And completely unexpected, yeah.
- And he's also very affectionate.
Yeah, completely unexpected.
He was, like, honestly
the exact opposite
of the impression I had of him.
He's, like, super extroverted,
super chill, super fun.
Would you see him again?
- Yeah, I would.
- Super.
What about you, Kesun?
- Yeah.
- Larry...
Larry was very affectionate,
like he wanted to hold my hand.
He has, like, a really nice
sense of humor, which I love.
I just wasn't expecting it at all,
and I really like his nose.
I just love Larry.
Larry has immaculate vibes.
- He's so easy to be around.
- Aw, that's really nice, yeah.
Like, you guys look like
you've been dating forever.
You guys just vibe so naturally.
But last night he asked me,
like, how... where else we're going
and like, how... what the rest
of the process is gonna be like.
And I told him,
we're going to six more cities
and his face kind of, like...
His mouth, like, dropped open.
He's like, "Well, don't fall in love
in any other city."
Ash, what about you?
Well, Zad and I had a good time.
We had really, like,
good conversation
and, like, I had every intention
of making out with her
- based upon the feeling.
- Totally.
But it got really serious
on, like, date two.
And I'm, like, "I, like, respect that
but I also, like,
don't want to feel like
I have to change
to be in a relationship with you."
So did anyone get railed?
I'm just kidding.
Well, I didn't,
I'll tell you that much.
- Yeah, same.
- Me too.
- Me too, not.
- Me too, no.
Me not.
Yeah, no one...
no one's getting railed in Miami.
Maybe in Austin.
I bet there's gonna be hunks there.
- Oh, for sure.
- I have a feeling.
Everything's bigger in Texas,
so who knows?
I mean, honestly,
it felt like a fairy tale.
I've lived my life in a way
that doesn't feel like these kinds
of stories would ever apply to me.
And yet, here I am, meeting
this really handsome guy
who's very sweet,
very smart, very ambitious.
And he's right in front of me
and he's just basically
asking me to kiss him.
It was perfect.
I wanna see Derrick again.
Like, absolutely.
I don't think Don
was smothering me at all.
I think I just was quick
to feel smothered.
You know, going on one date with Don
and seeing that I have this desire
to just, like, run away.
I'm a flight risk.
I'm trying to fix it.
I'm gonna miss you
while you're gone, though.
I'm really happy to meet you.
Likewise.
Larry is definitely, like,
the only contender so far.
For my husband.
- So this is it.
- Yeah.
The end of the journey, for me.
Yeah, for you.
The beginning of yours.
And, who knows,
it's maybe the start of ours.
I'm really happy to meet you.
Oh, my God,
I'm gonna miss you so much.
I'm really excited.
She's an amazing girl.
I'm kinda sad
that she's gonna leave now.
I really hope that she embraces
the experience
that she's on, without forgetting me.
I'm looking forward to the call.
