Legend of Gilbert Flay, The (2025)

Post by bunniefuu »

[Ominous music]

[V.O.]

- Ghost stories in the south

go together like heat and hell.

Well, I never believed in ghosts, but

I always believed in hell.

And I remember the day I found out

that hell is a place on earth.

I was just a boy and I

was playing in these woods

and I stayed out too late.

It was dark and I

couldn't see my house yet,

but I could hear my

aunt screaming my name.

I'd never heard a scream like that

when I stepped into the clearing.

She came running at me so fast.

I thought she was coming

to k*ll me.

I froze.

She picked me up and started squeezing me

so tight I couldn't breathe.

And all she kept saying over

and over was, thank you.

Thank you Gilbert Flay

for not taking him away.

After dinner, I asked her,

who's Gilbert Flay?

She said that Gilbert was

one of the few children

that survived the m*ssacre

of Ebenezer Creek.

And by the grace of God,

he made his way here

with a few others and built Shermantown.

I asked why she was so

afraid of a dead man.

She said he wasn't dead.

She said, Gilbert Flay

is a part of our history

and sometimes history gets buried alive.

[ATV comes to a halt]

Alright.

[ATV shuts down parks]

[Reese sighs]

[Reese off-screen]

Alright. You got it?

[Metallic clang]

[Footsteps approaching]

Mind if I join you?

[Camera shutter clicks]

[Birds chirping]

[Reese sighs]

[Sentry sighs]

- long day?

[Reese]

- mmmm, long night.

You'd be surprised

what that train'll do to a possum.

Turn 'em into one of those flat

hot sandwiches with the tracks.

[Sentry smiling]

- You mean a panini?

Yeah, that's it.

Possum Panini.

I'm Reese.

Reese Vansant.

Sentry.

Like a hundred years

Somewhat.

You know this park officially

opened on April 14th, 1965.

Exactly. 100 years to the

day after Lincoln was shot.

Lincoln!

it's a big deal

for black folks. Am I right?

He didfree the sl*ves.

Speaking of free black folks,

where are you from?

If it's all the same to you,

I'd rather just sit, quietly.

Well, excuse me.

[Tense music building up]

Sorry for staring at

you like that... but, uh!

You remind me of this

fella I used to work with.

Y'all might even be kinfolk.

Do you know

Jeremiah?

No.

Well!

actually we called him Jerry.

Oh wait, Jerry?

Yeah, I know Jerry, he's my cousin.

- Really?

- No,

[Reese smiles]

That's funny.

Jerry was funny too.

He used to say that black

folks don't like the woods

because all the trees

make their necks itch.

Is is that true?

Only around your kinfolk.

Well, there sure are a lot

of yo people in the park today too.

Oh my God.

Movie people. I mean.

You're here for

the festival, right?

- Right.

- Yep.

Well, they're all running

crazy through the park

like sh*t through a goose.

What's it called?

Four Forties and a film. Right?

[Sighs] That's the 44

hour film competition.

Yeah. You got your

foe foe, wit yo peeps, huh?

[Reese smiles]

Well don't that start

over at Pavilion three

by the West Gate.

I thought it was here at the East Gate.

Well, we can't both

be right now, can we?

Hell, maybe I'm wrong.

- [Sighs] sh*t.

- Need some help.

It would be my absolute honor

to aid and assist you, ma'am.

- Yes, please. Thank you.

- My pleasure.

[Reese on radio]

Colquit, Come in.

[Radio crackles]

[Colquit]

- Go ahead for Colquit.

Yeah that uh... film competition

they're having today.

Where are they meeting at? Over

[Radio crackles]

Pavilion three by the West Gate

Over.

Thanks.

Hey, look, if you want

I can give you a ride over there.

Oh no. That won't be necessary.

You got a map?

No.

Well, the way I hear it times money

and you're already on CP time

and running behind.

Don't seem smart to get

lost on top of that,

You are too kind.

but no thank you.

Where can I get a map?

Look, it is really no trouble

for me to drive you over there.

Yeah, but you just sat

down for your break.

You wanna know a secret?

I take breaks-all day long.

Come on!

I'd be a perfect gentleman.

Is he coming too?

Oh yeah, he's fine.

Besides...

we'll be back in two shakes.

[Footsteps receding]

[Flask clatters in ATV]

You just sit right up here.

[Reese softly grunts]

[Reese talking to himself]

Let's see if this key's still working okay

[ATV starts]

[ATV growing louder]

[ATV Receding]

[Birds chirping]

[Leaves rustling]

[ATV brakes]

Hey!

What the hell you doing?

[ATV shuts Off]

[Sentry sighs]

I think she likes you

Can we, Can we go please?

[Reese grunting softly]

[ATV starts]

[Reese] -A lot of people don't

like me because I'm honest,

but I just don't know any other way to be.

I'm like that big rock, you know?

Everything can change around me,

but I'll be the same old

Reese until I die.

[Sentry]

Hmm? When will that be?

[Reese]

Say what?

There are a lot of trees.

Yeah, A lot of history in

these woods. "On this rock.

I will build my church

and the gates of hell shall

not prevail against it."

I bet you didn't know that the

White Citizens Council used

to have sermons up in the mountain once a

month after the w*r.

- The White Citizens Council.

- That is right.

- You mean the Klu Klux Klan?

- The what?

Cross burning cowards

behind white sheets.

Are those the citizens

you're referring to?

Those were God-fearing men.

Oh, they were fearful.

All right. But not of God.

I suppose you're one of those,

"all black lies matter" people.

Am I right?

Can you see the pavilion from here?

Barely. It's just past

the tree line up ahead.

- Great. Stop the cart.

- What?

- Stop the cart please.

- Fine. Suit yourself...

Your kind never could listen to reason

long enough to make a difference.

- My kind.

- Yeah.

Women-my granddaddy used to

say that a woman ain't nothing

but one good looking rib.

But you go ahead and have a nice walk.

[Footsteps on gravel]

Hey! You ain't got a map,

so don't get lost now

I have to come back and find you.

[Footsteps on gravel]

Take care.

[Footsteps on gravel]

[ATV engine starts]

[Footsteps on gravel receding]

[Upbeat music]

[Keys clacking on keyboard]

[Birds chirping]

[Footsteps]

[Eddie] Hey, Is she with us?

[Brandon] Yeah.

What's her name?

Sentry Day.

Wow!

she just made my day.

[Aileen] Jesus Eddie. Thirsty much?

Oh my God.

Was I talking to you, Aileen?

Eddie? Eddie, chill.

just, relax.

What do you

[Footsteps]

[Birds chirping]

Hi.

- Hi.

- Listen, I know this is out of the blue,

but I'm working sound for

this film crew over here,

and the director keeps asking me

if I know any gorgeous women

that know how to act.

Well, I saw you walking

and I told him I knew you.

[Both giggling]

So could you do me a favor?

Could you pretend like your name is Sentry

and that we know each other?

So you want me to act like my name is

Sentry?

That's a pretty unique name.

How'd you come up with that?

- It just came to me.

- Huh?

Well, that's not my name, but, okay.

Okay. Well, hey, my name's

Eddie. What's your real name?

- Darshalenia.

- Dar what?

[Both giggling]

Your face. Oh God.

I needed that. Thank you.

Well, hey ...um!

If you need anything,

don't hesitate.

I'll probably hesitate Eddie.

[Colquit]

Is this the last of your team?

Yeah. Yeah, it is.

Do you want to go over

the lock box or should I?

Oh no, I got it

[Aileen]

Garcon.

[Birds chirping]

[Liquid pouring]

You want a taste?

We could blame it on the juice.

No, no, no more Eddie.

No more. All right.

Can we just stop drinking?

Can we, can we stop?

[Eddie] Okay. Brandon, calm down man.

It's not like we're on a real movie set.

[Josh] Yeah.

With a real "director".

[Both giggling]

[Brandon chuckling]

Hey Josh, forgive me if I forget

to put your name in the credits.

[All] Ooh!

[Josh] you got me!

Ouch.

[Colquit]

Okay, so welcome.

Actually, you know what,

before we get started started,

I will get everybody's phones.

Okay.

like-no!

Like, yeah.

[Matt] What do you need our phones for?

Come on. It's just until

we finish filming. Okay.

No distractions-Come on.

Give it up. Thank you.

Just let me finish.

Yeah, go ahead. Hurry, please.

[Cellphone clangs in box]

[Birds chirping]

[Cellphone clangs in box]

[Colquit Off-screen]

Okay. Alright.

So welcome everyone

to the inaugural Stone Mountain 44 Hour

Folklore Film Competition.

[Group clapping]

Yes.

My name is Melvin Colquit Jr.,

But everyone just calls me Colquit

Think of me as your tour slash

safety guide for the evening.

So any and all questions

relating to the park

or the competition, I can answer.

Okay. Alright.

Now, as I'm sure all of you

have figured out by now,

this event is sponsored by my

family's company, Colquit Construction

and Development, which happens

to be the largest black-owned

construction company

in the southeast.

Woo.

Yeah. How about a

round applause for that.

Alright, moving on.

[Colquit clears throat]

Now, the grand prize for this

competition is $25,000 and,

[Everyone clapping and cheering]

[Whistling]

And the opportunity to attend

the Cannes Film Festival in France

right

now, if there are any of you

who aren't familiar with this

kind of competition, I'm going

to give you few of the ground rules.

Okay. Each team will be given

a genre, character name, prop,

and a line of dialogue they must use.

Each team has 44 hours to write, sh**t,

and complete their films.

No stock footage is allowed,

no collaborating with any

of the film crews in the park.

- Where are the other teams?

- I don't know, Aileen.

This park is f*cking huge.

Alright. Each team must

have their completed film

delivered by 3:00 PM on Sunday.

A failure to comply with any

of these guidelines will

result in disqualification.

Okay? Alright. Drum roll please.

[Drum roll on table]

The line of dialogue, character name,

and prop you must use has

just been sent to your team leader.

Oh, that's me.

Okay. Whoa. Let's see.

[Keys clacking on keyboard]

Okay. Damn!

- Silent films.

Okay. Character name is Mary.

Prop is a rock or stone.

And the line we have to use is,

is that the -

is that the whole line?

- I'm sorry.

- What's the line that we have to use?

Right. The line of dialogue.

You must have one of

your characters say is,

"I hate it when you..." fill in the blank.

Okay. But if,

if this is a silent film,

how are we supposed to use the line?

- Great idea. Very creative.

Okay, so good luck everyone,

and, and let the cameras roll.

Action. Is that?

[Josh]

Hey Brandon,

[Sarcastic tone]

I hate it when

you forget to tell people

to bring bug spray.

Yeah. Brandon, you bugging.

Good one?

[Eddie] Hey, I'll introduce

you to everybody. Okay.

Hey everybody, this is Sentry Day.

[Brandon]

Oh, no sh*t. Okay.

Hi, I'm Matt.

Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you, Matt.

Hi, sis.

I'm Aileen, the female lead.

[Eddie]

And that's Josh. Josh?

[Sentry]

Hey, Josh.

[Brandon] Okay. Well,

as I was saying,

we are trying to capture

lightning in a bottle.

So everybody here except Sentry,

has done one of these projects before.

So y'all know we need to move

quickly and deliberately.

No mistakes.

Yes.

What's that genre again?

[Brandon mimicking silent films]

[Matt]

what?

[Brandon]

I'm not doing,

- I can't hear you.

- I'm not doing this with you.

If you don't have to write us dialogue,

can't we just like

start filming right now?

I mean, this doesn't

have to take all night.

Yes, but I have to write a story first.

I have to come up with

a story first Aileen.

Then we can start sh**ting. Okay.

Yeah.

Wait, so there's no dialogue.

- Are you drunk?

- No.

So if it's silent, that

means that no one will know

how sexy my voice is.

- That that's correct.

- But I've been working on,

You know what, Matt,

just, just practice now.

All right. You can just, let's just

make this a silent meeting. Yeah.

[Singing] Gilbert Flay

come out to play

I found some of your stones

Y'all. Seriously? Look,

if we pull this off

and we win the 25K,

we could get screened

at 'Keynes' next year.

Now, I don't know about any of y'all,

but I want to go to 'Pah-ree'

Okay. So let's do something

fresh and original. All right.

Something powerful.-Yeah.

[Stone smacks laptop]

What? Oh!

What the f*ck?

She throwing rocks.

What the f*ck is up the

screen is-sh*t.

My f*cking files, all my...

[Yells] f*ck.

- Hey, Brandon, Brandon.

- Whoa, whoa, whoa.

- Right there

- Brandon.

Hold it.

What the f*ck, man?

She just broke my sh*t.

Why aren't you talking to her?

Hold on. We don't even

know for sure, she's the one.

Who threw the rock, that hit

your laptop

Gilbert Flay, come out to play

[All scream]

Well, hey, Brandon. Wait. No.

Psycho.

[Colquit blows whistle]

Evelyn, stop it okay,

Brandon, you and your

people need to step back.

All right, I'll handle this.

Evelyn-stop.

[Talking softly]

Now, I'm not gonna tell

you again. Alright.

Stop with this mess around the park,

or I'm going to have you arrested-again.

Do you understand?

[Drops rock in wagon]

[Evelyn] I'm sorry.-I'm sorry.

I, I'm sorry.

[Crying, apologizing]

Please forgive me, please.

It's okay. All right. It's,

it's okay. Just, just go.

Alright, leave your wagon and go.

Oh, wait. Ma'am. Ma'am,

do you need help? Wait.

Hey, it's Evelyn, right?

Evelyn, do you need us to call someone?

[Evelyn shakes head]

- I'm fine, baby.

- Don't,

I'm fine.

No, no, you're not. You're not.

You're not fine. She's not f*cking fine.

[Aileen, interrupting]

Why were you trying

to stone us - old lady?

I wasn't throwing them at

you. I was giving them back.

Giving them back.

[Screaming] Those

aren't my f*cking rocks.

This is bullshit. Alright,

I wanna press charges.

[Evelyn smacks Aileen]

[Sharp gasp]

Those don't belong to you.

[Mocking tone]

- okay? She just assaulted me.

Did you see that?

If you don't call the police,

I'm gonna press charges

and make sure that you

You're gonna do what?

[Sternly, cutting off Evelyn]

little white girl.

- Huh? [Dismissively]

I just stopped you from stealing

and everybody saw it too.

[Angrily, walking away] Black b.

Is she gonna be all right?

You know, out here.

like that?

Yeah. Yeah.

Evelyn's harmless-usually.

usually she's harmless.

[Loudly] Hey, Evelyn,

don't come back for this wagon.

This is bullshit.

[Screaming]

My laptop better not be f*cking ruined.

[Group walks back]

- Brandon.

- Brandon, come on.

[Footsteps Receding]

[Tense music]

[Brandon breathing heavily]

This sh*t's f*cking,

it's done. It's over.

I can't -look at this

look, I can't, I can't.

Brandon.

[Angrily] - Look at the

screen. Look at the screen.

Brandon? It's fine.

Okay.

Like that horrible girl

said we don't need a script.

What horrible girl?

[Brandon chuckles]

Funny, funny.

Yeah, we don't, we don't need a script,

but like, I needed the software.

Okay. Like, how are we gonna

finish this and turn it in?

We can use mine.

The what? You?

My laptop.

- You brought one?

- Yes.

- I can use it.

- Yes. Relax.

Oh my God.

Thank God.

Where is it?

- sh*t.

- What?

- Oh sh*t. [Frustrated]

- What?

I left it on that f*cking

racists four wheeler.

- What? r*cist?

- The one that dropped me off.

But what?

I'll be right back. Officer Colquit.

[Sentry calling out for Colquit]

Colquit. Do you have-sh*t?

What is his name?

The... the... uh?

The hillbilly.

He's really f*cking r*cist

and obnoxious. What is

Reese?

Yes. Do you have his

number please? Radio him.

Oh, yeah.

Okay. I can do that. But

he got off a few hours ago.

he might have dropped off his radio.

[On radio]

- Go for Reese.

[Radio beeps]

[On radio]

- Reese, do you copy?

[Radio beeps]

[Colquit over radio]

- Reese? Do you read, come in?

[Answers radio]

- Go for Reese.

[Colquit on radio]

- Hey Reese uh

the young lady that you

dropped off at pavilion three.

She thinks that she left her

bag on your four wheeler over.

[Radio beeps]

[Reese over Radio]

- She did not over.

He's lying.

Uh-are you sure?

Can you double check over?

[Radio beeps]

I could triple check

and it wouldn't make a lick of difference

because I ain't blind over.

Are you sure? Maybe it fell

off while you were driving.

[Radio beeps]

Well, if it fell off,

then there's your answer.

It is not on my gator. I swear.

Trying to talk any sense in

y'all's like putting steam in a bucket?

Tell me something Colquit?

If you lose something,

and you can't find it,

where do you go-over?

Lost and found.

Bingo. Dingo, over and out.

[Radio beeps]

[Mocking] Idiot!

Great!

Where's the lost and found?

Uh, It's not too far from here.

[Sentry] - Cool.

[Brandon] - What a f*cking as*h*le.

Excuse me.

Not you. I'm talking about Reese.

whatever the f*ck his name is.

We could also file your

property damage report over there too.

- How far of a walk is it?

- Uh, maybe 30 minutes.

We don't have time for that.

Okay, I'll, I'll go

and Colquit can come with me too-right?

- Yeah.

- Great.

- I can do that. Sure.

- My notes,

everything about the

park was on that laptop.

I don't even have a story.

I just, just gimme a minute.

Just gimme a minute to

think. All right, well,

Either way, I need

to go get my backpack,

But you don't even know where it is.

Sentry. Like you could

be out there all day.

Well, you wanna use it too, right?

Plus my camera's in there,

so I have to get it.

[Angrily] - Okay. Just f*cking

go then. Just f*cking go.

If it means that much

to you, just f*cking go.

[Footsteps on grass softly receding]

[Teresa V.O.]

- Sentry.

[Loud bang followed by music]

Whatever you've learned

or received from me, put it into practice.

[Soft music continues]

[Birds chirping]

You still want to go?

Yeah. Gimme a minute.

[Exhales softly]

[Matt]

- Hey

What was that song,

that she was singing?

[Colquit]

- What? Who?

That song that, what's

her problem was singing?

Ah, it's not a song.

What is it?

Kind of an old game

that turned into a rhyme.

It's nothing.

[Eddie]

- What's the game?

It's called "Whole Hearted".

It's based on a true, I think,

something about love and hate.

And if you have a whole heart, then

after you play the game, your

greatest dream will come true.

What if you don't have

a whole heart or whatever?

[Tense music building]

Then Gilbert Flay will

take your heart away.

[Giggles]

[Josh]

- Gilbert Flay?

That's what she was saying.

Yeah. Gilbert Flay was a man

that worked in the rock quarry

right here in the park a long time ago.

Every day Gilbert would

go to work,

his wife and son would sit on the porch

and watch as he walked outta sight.

[Dramatic music]

And one day

his son, would sneak out

while his mother wasn't looking

and followed his father to work.

Well, it is a long hike

through the woods to the mountaintop.

And the little boy got lost

and then his mother

went out looking for him

and she got lost too.

And then when Gilbert got home,

he went out looking for them both.

And three of them were never seen-again.

[Aileen]

- That's terrible.

[Matt] - Yeah.

That's awesome. [Chuckles]

[Dramatic music]

[Eddie Sarcastically]

- Okay

so if your heart's filled with love,

then the thing you most want,

you'll find-like Gilbert Flay

looking for his family.

I get it.

Something like that.

[Dramatic music building]

[Brandon]

- That's perfect-Junior.

That's it.

[Eddie Off-screen]

- What?

We're gonna tell the story

of the couple falling in love.

[Footsteps]

Aileen, you'll be the wife.

Matt, Gilbert Flay.

Really?

Yeah. I mean like, yeah.

Let's, let's play the game.

How do you play it?

[Aileen, excited]

- I'm gonna win.

Because I know what I

love, will come to me!

[Dramatic music building up]

We all have to touch it at the same time

while saying it.

- Say what?

- Say the rhyme.

We all have to say the

rhyme at the same time.

[Josh]

- Okay, then what?

Then if you have a whole heart,

your greatest dream will come true.

[Josh]

- That's ridiculous.

[Brandon off-screen]

- Yeah. Yeah.

But uhm-let's get into the spirit.

Let's do it. Uh.

Who doesn't want their dreams to come true?

-Right?

[Chuckles]

[Footsteps]

[Birds chirping]

[Footsteps on grass]

Hold it.

[Colquit showing everyone]

Just like this.

Now in order for this to work,

we all have to say in unison,

[Matt]

- Uni-what?

[Brandon, irritated]

- At the same damn time,

[Forest sounds]

[Colquit]

- Gilbert Flay come out play.

I found one of your stones,

little Flay or Mary Day,

is this one of their bones?

[Eddie]

- Creepy much?

[Sentry]

- This is so silly.

[Matt] - Come on,

we can do it. Right team?

[Colquit]

- 1, 2, 3.

[Overlapping chants]

Gilbert Flay. Found the stone.

Stone. Mary Day, is this one

of their bones. BONES.

Stones? STONE.

- Sentry. Didn't say anything.

- Eddie. What are you?

If you don't say it,

my wish won't come true.

[Matt] We're supposed to make a wish?

YES-wish for what you

want most in the world.

[Eddie]

- Come on Sentry.

[Colquit]

- Okay.

1, 2, 3.

[Group chanting in unison]

Gilbert Flay come out to play,

I found one of your stones,

[Ghostly voice overlaps the chanting]

Little Flay or Mary Day,

is this one of their bones?

[Eerie music crescendos as

the stone drops to the ground]

[Eerie, unsettling music continues]

[Eddie off-screen]

- What the f*ck?

[Unsettling music continues]

[Josh]

- What is this?

[Matt]

- Watch it, Josh.

It's just paint.

[Josh]

- You watch it, Pretty boy.

[Matt]

- Pretty boy?

No. Strike that. Pretty

mentally challenged boy.

[Aileen]

- Why are ugly people so rude?

Because they're ugly.

Is there anything going on up there?

Oh!

Okay.

[Eddie]

- No, no, no. Josh. Josh.

Don't.

[Josh]

- Do I need to go to the hospital

and get tested for some kind of disease?

Huh? What the hell is this, Colquit?

- Oh man. Hey, listen.

- I don't know.

I, I didn't know there

was anything on the rock.

Look, this is a shitty trick, man.

How are we supposed to

get this to come off?

I'm sorry guys.

I'm sorry. It will just rub off.

Yeah, well it's not coming off.

You

People are useless.

Speaking of useless,

why don't we send the help

to get some cleaning

supplies for the talent.

Excuse me?

I said we are the talent

and you are the help.

[Sentry chuckles]

First of all, the only talent

I see doesn't look like you.

And as far as me being the help,

I guess I can help you

save some money on Botox

and just well your lip up right now.

Wow. Sis.

Is that what you say to "yo baby Daddy"?

That's

What we're doing.

[Yelling] Hey, hey, hey, hey!

Everybody calm down. Okay.

It's just a little paint.

Just take a second.

Go down to the restrooms.

Wash your hands.

Geez!

Sticky.

Yeah, it's like real blood.

I hate blood.

Hey

How can you hate blood?

That's like hating yourself?

We really need to just

come here real quick.

Come here.

- What?

We just really need to get

a handle on this set. Okay?

Can you like, just try to keep them calm

while I finish formulating... this film?

Yeah. Yeah. You need help?

Yes. Just, just keep them calm?

No, I mean with the film.

No, no, I'm good on that.

I just... you're not creative like that.

Okay. It's cool. I got it.

What do you mean I'm not creative?

No, no, I'm just...

You're good at other things.

Like what?

Like wasting time.

I'm counting on you.

[Birds chirping]

[Ominous music, Footsteps]

[Birds chirping]

[Tense music intensifying]

- And I f*cking hate waiting.

- Wow, Eddie!

I really like your party favors.

[Both chuckling]

That's what she said.

That's what who said Matt? Huh?

Who said that? You don't know sh*t.

Wow, dude, look

if you can't handle your

liquor, don't drink it.

Can he even have liquor in the park?

Oh my god. You're not funny man.

You're not funny

You're nothing but like...

a functioning moron.

- At least I'm functioning.

- Okay. Take it easy, Eddie.

Yeah, 'E.D', like erection disabled.

It's erectile dysfunction.

Yeah, we, we know

what he's talking about.

Officer Corrections. [Mockingly]

You mean Corrections Officer?

God, I f*cking hate

you, Matt... you know?

[Stumbles]

Hey, hey, hey, hey.

Just... relax. Relax.

Can you just, okay.

Can, can you go find Josh?

Can you go find Josh?

We need to get moving,

please. [Requesting]

[Eddie]

- Yeah.

[Matt] - Yeah Eddie.

[Brandon] - Thank you.

[Matt] Fetch.

[Eddie, sarcastically]

- Oh yeah,

I fetched you.

Oh, look what I fetched you.

[Flips the bird]

Alright, we're wasting time.

Thank you. Thank you.

You know... that was

actually a death threat.

Colquit, what are you talking about?

Before the invention of gunpowder,

archers were the world's first sn*pers.

This finger is, is key

to knocking the arrow

before you draw back.

So, sometimes a... archer

would show a man the finger

that he was gonna use to k*ll him.

[Flips the bird]

- That's awesome.

- How do you know that?

I read a lot... History mostly.

Oh, so you're like a jack of all trades,

[Aileen chuckles]

A black jack of all trades.

[Aileen and Matt Chuckling]

[Colquit stares at Matt]

[Body dragged across floor]

[Unsettling violin music]

[Door latches]

[Screaming]

- Josh.

[Footsteps]

[Eddie bangs on door]

Yo.

Josh.

[Eddie continues banging]

[Eddie tugs at the handle,

checking if it's locked]

Josh.

[Eddie frustrated]

I'm out, whatever.

[ATV driving on forest trail]

Has anybody seen Josh come this way?

[Eddie, back with the group]

[Group] No. No, no,

No, no.

- Just keep...

- Josh.

[Brandon]

- Uh look. Can I,

can I talk to you for a minute? Junior?

[Colquit shaking his head]

[Colquit] - I really need you to

stop calling me that.

Okay? Okay. So listen... you know that

I'm gonna sue the sh*t outta this park,

and your company, right?

- I wish you wouldn't do that.

- Right?

[Brandon chuckles]

You'll probably get fired

or demoted at least.

Yeah. Sorry. I really

wish you wouldn't do that.

Right? Right. I wish

you wouldn't do that, Sir.

- Sir.

- Right. So maybe I will,

maybe I won't. If.

If what?

Let me use the Gilbert

Flays story for the film.

If you do, you get to keep your job.

[Threatening]

Hmm?

[Colquit shaking his head]

Tell me something Brandon.

[Menacing music]

Do you? Do you practice

being manipulative?

No. It's uh.

It's a gift.

We have a deal?

[Colquit nods in agreement]

Cool.

[Brandon walking across

the field to Eddie]

Eddie.

Look,

I know you begged me to

let Josh on this film,

but I'm gonna tell you right now,

if he does not do his f*cking part,

you can kiss that IMDB credit Goodbye.

Alright man. I'll go find

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

There's no more time.

I just need you to grab

all the gear that you can

and head over to the cliff.

All right? I'll get the rest of it.

Come on. Come on.

Alright.

Alright.

So yes, the cliff is

where we're gonna sh**t

my masterpiece. Okay?

- The cliff.

- The cliff, yes... um,

Sentry, could you and

Colquit go and get the laptop

and meet us at the south

pass of the mountain?

You know where that is? Right?

[Colquit nods in agreement]

Okay.

All right. Breaks over people.

[Claps]

Let's get it going.

Oh. [Brandon sighs]

Come on. Get the flies outta my ointment.

Film ain't gonna sh**t itself.

Come on.

[Claps]

Yeah. Yeah.

I'll get Yeah, go. Go.

[Brandon picks up the rock]

[Tense music]

[Colquit and Sentry walking on trail]

They don't seem to get

along very well.

Your team.

That is not my team.

I do not know those people

and I did not pick them.

Okay, [Chuckles]

so... what you just coworkers?

Something like that.

How'd you get picked?

I'm in a photography class with Brandon.

- Oh, you're a photographer.

- Yeah.

- Very cool.

- Yeah, I love taking pictures.

I mean, to me they're worth

way more than a thousand words.

And honestly, I believe a great capture

can change the way you look at life,

if it makes you feel something.

[Pleasant music]

So what do you feel when you,

you look at this part?

Uh!

I don't know, I guess

peace in this space.

Yeah. Nature has always been

really calming to me. So

You photograph a lot nature?

- I do actually.

- Oh.

Well it sounds like you might be in

tune with your purpose, Miss Day.

Hmm.

I wish my Grandmother

could have heard you say that.

Yeah. She always used to say

that I spent more time sh**ting life

than actually living it.

[Both smile]

Okay. Hold on.

What's her number? [Colquit

takes out his phone out]

'Cause I'll tell her right now. Come on.

It's Umm, 1-800-HEAVEN's gate.

- What?

- She passed away last year.

I'm, SORRY.

It's okay. It's fine.

You didn't know.

You know, I knew someone

was wrong with that number.

There's too many digits.

[Sentry laughs]

So, Brandon,

Is he your boyfriend?

No. No.

That makes sense.

Why do you say that?

Because Brandon is

arrogant and you're humble.

Thank you. But he's not that bad.

He's definitely bad adjacent.

I mean, his property was damaged.

I think he has a right

to be upset, don't you?

Maybe. But I mean,

he looked like he was gonna jump on

Evelyn if I hadn't stopped him.

That that kind of thing makes

you question his character.

I'm, I'm just saying, my aunt

said, "The only difference

between a good person and

a bad person... is timing".

[Birds chirping]

Have you been here before?

Yep.

Can I show you something real quick?

I've already seen everything already.

You haven't seen this?

[Piano music]

I thought we were going

to the Lost and Found.

Come on.

It'll, it'll be fast, I promise.

[Piano music]

Okay.

[Softly]

[Both smiling]

[Piano music, footsteps]

I did. I did hear that your

last name was Day, right?

Yeah, that's right.

Where's your family from?

[Sentry smiles]

Do they teach you guys to ask

that question in training or something?

No. Why'd you ask that?

[Smiling]

Your boy Reese asked

me the same question.

Reese is NOT my boy.

Oh, so you don't like him either?

Nope.

Really?

He's so charming.

He's so awful.

[Sentry Laughs]

Ah, yeah.

I always wondered what makes

a man so hateful like that

In his case.

It's in the blood.

How so?

[Footsteps]

His family actually

owned all of this mountain

back in the 1800's.

Their plantation was all of

Shermantown back in the day.

Oh. And not to mention they are some

of the founding members

of clan here in Georgia.

Hmm.

So they lynched and terrorized

families like mine for... years.

Wow. So what's his family up to now?

I'm not sure.

I've seen some of his cousins

around town over the years, but

they're not aging well.

[Sentry smiles]

So you're from around here then?

Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

Shermantown, born and bred.

Oh, small world.

Ah, do tell.

My grandmother lived in Shermantown.

I knew it

Knew what?

That you were good peoples.

You know, I, I think some

of my family married some

of your family back in the days.

Hmm.

That's funny.

Yeah, we might be cousins.

Don't tell Reese.

Hmm? Why not?

He thinks we're all cousins anyway.

[Sentry chuckles, Colquit sighs]

Where is it?

Where's what?

The statue of the worker.

Oh, I don't know.

They took that last week for touch-ups.

No, it was here earlier.

I just took a picture of it

Earlier.

- Yeah. Today.

- Nah, that can't be right.

Well, you don't believe me.

No, no, no. I'm not saying that.

I'm just, you might be mistaken.

There are a lot of statues in this park.

Oh, whatever. What did you

wanna show me? Colquit.

It's actually what I

wanted you to show me.

Come again.

Well, since your family

or might be family, I bet you have some

of the mountain in you, and I

bet you could pick out a geode

with your gut just like me.

No, I don't.

I don't think so.

Come on. It'll be easy.

Yeah. I, I really think

I should be

heading back.

- Come on.

How about I make you a, a deal, right?

If you successfully pick one out,

I'll punch Reese in the face.

- No, you won't.

- Yes, I will.

You forget. I do not work here.

Okay. I'm gonna hold you to that.

Alright where can I find one?

Anywhere around here.

I don't, I don't see it

there aren't any around here.

Are you sure?

[Music intensifying]

[High-pitched music]

[Footsteps]

[Music]

[Colquit smashes geode on rocky ground]

Welcome to the family, cuz.

[Both bump fists]

[ATV engine hums in the distance]

Wow.

[ATV engine hums in the distance]

You know,

I bet he found your, your bag.

You want to head over to Lost and Found?

No. We should really be getting back.

I mean, I'll just tell Brandon

that we can get it on the way back

and we can... finish everything tomorrow.

You sure?

Nope. But that's his best bet.

[Both smiling]

What's he pointing at?

Aah

Looks like the foot of

the mountain near the base.

Huh?

[Colquit clears his throat]

- What is it?

- Nothing. Nothing, nothing.

I just, I just hope you don't let this,

this group of people change who you are.

My grandmother would roll

over in her grave if I ever

let anyone change who I am, Colquit.

- Or that way, right?

- Yeah.

[Footsteps]

- Hey,

- Hey.

- What are y'all doing?

- We're setting up the shot.

Did y'all find it?

Trace my steps and couldn't

find it. But it's okay.

Let's just get everything done

and even if I can't find

my backpack, we can just go

to school tomorrow and

do it in post there.

You are truly an asset.

Alright, so what's the shot?

It's gonna be a master, obviously,

and we'll do several takes

here and then 75 over there.

A 45 degree angle over there,

and then another one over here.

All right. Gotcha.

[Aileen]

- Brandon, is this close enough?

Yeah, that's perfect.

That's perfect, Aileen.

Just stay still. Don't fall.

Matt, help her.

Hey, I gotta take a piss.

Jesus. You can't hold it.

Go, go man. Liability.

Stop drinking.

[Footsteps]

[Footsteps and leaves rustling]

[Eddie, talking to himself]

- You ain't got talent.

You ain't got creativity.

[Tense music intensifying]

Shh! Come on man.

Why you got Matt's side.

Making me feel like a little b*tch.

You know what I mean? Oh,

you're supposed to be my boy.

Whatever man.

Gotta go. Gotta go.

[Eddie, relieving himself in the woods]

Damn, man.

[Unzipping]

[Urinating]

Yeah.

How about this? For a little creativity?

Yeah, I'm very creative right now.

Whoa man.

Whoa. Sorry man.

I didn't see you there.

Whoa!

Your eyes.

[Gilbert Flay, ghostly Voice]

- Hate... has... you!

[Loud rumbling]

[Eddie slips and Falls]

[Eddie hits the back of his head]

[Screams]

- Wait, hold on.

[Gilbert Flay repeatedly

hacks Eddie with a Pickaxe]

[Music crescendoing]

[Brandon]

- Sentry, stand over there.

No,

Excuse me.

I said "NO", look it up.

It means No.

What's the problem?

Oh, there's no problem.

But from where I'm from,

people say please and thank you.

[Exhales]

Fine. Would you PLEASE

go stand over there?

My pleasure.

Here.

Uh! No,

that is... perfect.

[ATV engine humming]

[Foreboding music]

[Music intensifies]

[Tarp rustling]

[Music building]

[Tarp rustling]

[Tarp rustling]

[Camera shutter clicks]

[Brandon]

- Aileen.

So use Sentry for your

line of sight. Okay?

So when Matt's talking

to you, look at Sentry.

[Aileen] - Why?

- Because there's

there's something coming

in this direction.

What's approaching?

Aileen, just trust me. Okay.

Okay.

[Sentry] - Ah, guess

she's not the superstar.

You thought she was?

Yeah. Maybe she's icing on a sh*t cake.

- What? [Laughing]

- Well, I lost my laptop.

I don't know where the

f*ck my assistant is.

You mean Josh?

Yeah. Whatever his...

and where is Eddie?

Like how long does it

take to piss on a tree?

Brandon. Brandon, it's fine. Okay.

You don't need Josh because, hello?

You have me and I'm sure

Eddie will be back soon.

I mean, he doesn't have like a really bad

sense of direction, does he?

I don't know. You think he got lost?

No, I was just... thinking

Just helping.

- Sorry.

- Okay, look, we really need

to get this, we need to start sh**ting.

Okay. Colquit, can you please

go and find our colleague?

Why me?

Because he's basically a missing

f*cking person at this point.

And you said it was your

job to keep us safe.

Matt, Aileen, y'all just

rehearse in the meantime. Okay.

Rehearse what?

Just, you know what we're doing.

Okay. I got security looking

for him down at Pavilion three. Okay.

sh*t. Where the f*ck is Josh?

Maybe he went back to his car.

No, he couldn't because he rode with me.

So if he needed to go to the car,

he had to come to me for the keys, Colquit.

I hate to ask, would you mind,

Mind what?

[Brandon points toward the boom]

[Footsteps]

Okay. We are back in business.

I don't think he knows what he's doing.

Oh! What gave it away.

[Both snicker]

Alright. Colquit the boom.

Yeah, I gotcha.

Wait, this is a silent film, right?

- Yes.

- Then why does he have to do sound?

The ambience. Okay. The,

the, the, the, the noise.

Can you just let me be

the director, please?

- Wow. Wow.

- Thank you.

Okay. Okay.

[Sighs]

Colquit, can you...

[Brandon shows Colquit

how to hold the boom mic]

like this?

Yeah.

Is it on?

[Matt]

- What are we doing, dude?

[Aileen]- Yes, it's getting cold out here.

All right.

[Footsteps]

All right. So... like

I told you both before,

this scene is about love.

Right?

It's your honeymoon night

and y'all are taking a stroll,

But it's not night yet.

- Okay? Sunset. Okay.

- Okay.

This is the moment

where the audience falls

in love with y'all as a couple.

All right? So I, I I need y'all

to look into each other's eyes

with passion and adoration.

I can do that.

[Distant bird calls]

What are you doing?

Wait, wait, wait.

I didn't say action yet.

My bad.

It's fine. And the kiss is fine too.

Just after the kiss,

I want y'all to dance. Okay.

Just grab each other, start

spinning around and you know,

and then Aileen, I want

you to run away from Matt

Run where?

To the thicket.

The thicket? [Sarcastic scoff]

Yes, the thicket.

Just run to the thicket

and invite him over.

Why?

Because you want him

to make love to you?

Yeah, you do.

[Excited]

[High-five each other]

- Okay.

- Okay.

Do I chase her?

Yes. When I say so.

Okay. And, and when, when do I run?

When I say so. Okay.

Okay.

Okay. [Whispers]

Okay.

I don't understand this movie.

No ones supposed to understand it,

but the director... it's art.

Okay.

Action.

Look, you can kiss me,

but better not linger.

Good. Good, good, good.

All right. Yep.

Yep. And then Matt, hold her close.

Aileen. Now.

Now what?

Whatever you feel like it Aileen.

[Aileen doing breathing exercises]

I'm ready. You ready? READY.

I've been ready.

[Aileen overacting]

Good. Good. Yeah. Keep going.

Matt, go...

[Brandon, frustrated]

GO!

[Aileen screams]

[Jarring music]

[Intense, violent music swells]

[Gilbert Flay choking Aileen]

[Choking intensifies]

[Jarring music]

[Gilbert Flay slams Aileen on the Ground]

[Brutal axe strike]

[Sickening thud as axe hits]

WHAT-THE-f*ck.

Okay, cut.

Wait,

Matt, who is that?

How the f*ck should I know?

Okay. That, that looked really real.

Like for real, real.

Okay. Okay. Okay. Action.

[Gilbert Flay Stands frozen]

Is is, is that one of your actors?

- What?

- The the guy with the

- I mean, he is now.

- Is he crying?

This is so good.

Brandon. I don't get it.

I thought, I was playing Gilbert Flay.

Okay. Okay, cut.

Matt, you are Gilbert Flay. Okay.

So just go over there and

try to save her from him.

Okay? Just, just run over

there and try to stop him.

- Stop him.

- Yeah.

I think I missed my chance to stop him.

Okay. Whatever.

Just, just go over there

and improvise some kind of confrontation.

Why am I confronting him?

[Brandon, frustrated, covers his face]

Because you want to protect her,

the love of your life... Mary.

And shouldn't Mary... I mean,

Aileen be standing up

wondering how long she has

to lay on the ground

before the scene is over.

Aileen is a trained professional Matt.

She's not gonna get up

unless she hears me say cut.

But you did say cut.

But she didn't hear me.

We heard you say cut.

How do you know she

didn't hear you say cut?

Because she is still on the ground.

She's still in character. Matt. Okay.

Just, just listen to me. Okay?

I'm the director.

You're the actor.

You're an actor, right?

Correct.

Okay, then... ACTION.

[Dramatic music building Up]

[Gilbert Flay, swings the axe]

[THWACK! The axe sinks into Matt's Chest]

Where, where is he

getting all that blood from?

Brandon?

Yeah I think we should go

[Brandon, Sentry - fleeing in panic]

[Eerie music intensifies]

Colquit. Do something.

[Music intensifies]

[Music crescendoing]

[They run, breath ragged -

footsteps pounding the earth]

[Frantically fumbling with Keys]

[Door shuts]

[Piano playing]

[All panting, catching their breath]

So what do we do now?

How do we get help?

You know, you're really

demonstrating poor

leadership skills right now.

Oh, wouldn't it be nice

to just get our cell phones

and call someone Brandon?

Problem. Solution.

Pick one, Sentry!

White gold.

What?

The quarry workers,

they would always come home

covered in granite dust.

And since they made a good enough living,

everyone said they were

covered in white gold.

[Colquit, in disbelief]

He's real.

He's real.

He's loose it in. Okay,

we gotta get the f*ck outta here.

You got your keys?

Yes, I do.

Okay, good. I do too.

Where are you parked?

sh*t, I don't know, somewhere.

Geez!

Where are you parked?

f*cking far. Really f*cking far.

[Brandon and Sentry panicking]

This guy?

Who's real

[Radio crackles]

Colquit. Radio?

[Radio crackles]

Gilbert Flay.

What did you say?

Gilbert Flay is real.

Bullshit.

That's not Gilbert Flay.

That's an angry landscaper

with a sharp a*s hammer or something.

That is Gilbert Flay.

That's not Gilbert Flay.

Gilbert Flay isn't real.

And even if he was real, he's dead.

What's out there is an ashy a*s na

with the garden tool. Okay?

There's no way he's

some 200 year old ghost.

Would you bet your life on that?

Excuse me?

Would you bet your life that

that isn't Gilbert flay out there?

Because let's just say

that he is some maniac.

Then what does he want?

Why is he k*lling people?

I don't know. I'm not a psychopath.

I don't know how psychopaths think.

Well, if he's a psychopath,

then what put him on this path.

Love.

[Tense music]

[Together]

- What?

He's looking for, his family.

[Tense music intensifying]

So am I.

[Brandon on radio]

Security we have an emergency!

[Radio static]

[Radio crackles]

If there is any security

on this line, we're over

[Radio static]

We're-f*ck!

What?

Listen Forest.

We don't have any time for

you to be f*cking stupid, slow

or whatever the f*cking

politically correct term is

for a social liability.

I need you to snap out of it

and gimme direct answers,

to my direct questions.

[Voice trembling]

Where are our phones?

Reese?

[Emotions run high]

Is that a complete thought?

Oh, Reese is the groundskeeper.

Okay, good.

So, so you can translate. Okay.

So, where the f*ck is Reese?

And how do we get him here?

Oh, Colquit. Colquit.

Where's Reese?

You don't understand.

You're right. I don't understand.

I don't f*cking understand.

No, no,

No.

If that is Gilbert Flay out there,

then it doesn't matter

who you call, Brandon.

Or where you go,

he is coming to k*ll us.

You know what?

f*ck this.

Brandon. Wait, please.

f*ck. This is bullshit.

Gilbert Flay is a ghost.

He's a lie. Okay,

what's out there is a man,

and that man wasn't moving very fast.

So I'm gonna run like the

f*cking wind back to my car

and drive the f*ck out here.

Okay? Brandon please.

You won't make it.

You can't out run your destiny.

And what's my destiny, Colquit?

Judgment.

[Sighs]

Only God can judge me.

No, no, no, no.

That's when you die.

When you're alive. Anybody,

anybody on earth can judge you.

Okay? Destiny. Judgment.

Colquit, What aren't you telling us?

Why is this happening?

Talk, Forest, Talk.

Brandon please.

Colquit?

Tell us.

I didn't tell you and your friends

the whole story about Gilbert Flay.

I didn't think it mattered.

There's another version of the story.

One my aunt used to tell me

so we wouldn't be mean to people.

She said that if you had

any hate in your heart,

Gilbert Flay will take you away.

What does she mean by that?

Hate in your heart.

She said at some point Gilbert

was becoming a wealthy man.

He was the best at his job.

He could cut and carve

granite like butter.

So his bosses, the Vansant's, they,

they had him travel

all around the country,

cutting and carving granite

for their highest paying customers.

[Brandon pacing nervously]

The Vansant's and Gilbert,

they got along well enough, but,

but Gilbert,

he wanted to work for himself.

So he saved his money

and he bought his own slabs of granite

and started trading with

people around the town

who couldn't afford it on their own.

But in exchange, he would take

a percentage of their business.

So, after long,

Gilbert had enough money

to leave the Vansant's.

[Tense silence, faint floor creaks]

[Brandon pacing]

Back then,

I'll tell you,

the only thing more dangerous

than a black man with ambition

was a white man that wanted to stop him.

[Tense music]

On Gilbert's last day

working for the Vansant's,

he went home.

Found his house on fire,

and in a pile in the yard,

was his family's clothes,

covered in blood?

They told him,

they told him that, they drug

his family to the summit,

and if he hurried, he could catch 'em.

So what happened?

[Dramatic music]

He k*lled those men,

six of them with a pickax,

and then

he went looking for his wife and son,

but he never found them.

Just some piles of stones

that they thought might

have been their graves.

[Footsteps]

And the last anybody,

anybody saw Gilbert alive,

they said he was covered in granite powder

and weeping tears of blood

from crying for so long.

That, that, that is Gilbert Flay, Brandon.

[Gilbert moans in the distance]

Y'all heard that

sh*t. sh*t.

Wait, so

do you think Josh and Eddie are dead too?

I don't know. Probably.

If your blood is on the rock,

you have hate in your heart.

What? That doesn't make any sense.

I, I mean, I mean, even if a

person does have like a, a,

a small amount of hate in their heart,

how does this Gilbert Flay know about it?

And how does he know the

difference between hate

and a really strong dislike?

It's, it's like I told you already.

Hate is, it's in the blood. It's stains.

That's probably why those

fingerprints appear on the stone.

f*ck. f*ck.

So what are you saying?

I mean, if we just would've picked

up the stone anyway,

without saying the rhyme

Gilbert will still be after us.

I, I think it has to be both.

Both. What?

The touch and the taunt.

It's f*cking ridiculous.

No, I I don't get it.

I don't get it.

I mean, people say they

hate things all the time

and they don't mean it.

I say that I hate traffic, but

it doesn't stay in my heart.

And you know, I, I hate when

I go through a drive through

and my order is wrong, but

it doesn't stain my heart.

There was, there was a saying

I used to hear when I was a kid.

"If love is blind,

then hate sees everything".

Maybe,

maybe hate is all Gilbert sees now.

So what do you hate, Brandon?

I'm starting to f*cking hate that I

played the f*cking game.

I mean... f*ck, a rock.

Why would a random rock

start all this sh*t?

Would it be the same if we

took a shoe and did the rhyme?

I don't know.

Maybe the stone means something to him.

What? The stone?

Yeah. I I mean, maybe if

we give it back to him like

that Evelyn lady did,

maybe he'll leave us alone.

You have it?

What do we do with it?

I, I, I'm not sure.

Okay. Where could his

family have been taken?

They, they, they said that they were,

they were burned alive on the summit and,

and tossed into the Devil's Arrow.

Where's the Devil's arrow?

It's this crack on the

south side of the mountain.

It's 50 feet wide and probably

as deep as the earth itself.

My aunt, she thinks that

Gilbert is still around

because he's trying to dig him

out the base of the mountain.

Maybe, maybe if we, if we toss it inside,

then, then he'll let us go.

I, I, I know it's a long shot,

but it's, it's, it's all I can think of.

What are you thinking?

I'll do it.

I'm faster than both of you.

How do I get to the Devil's Arrow?

It's, it's on the summit

behind the radio tower.

You can't miss it.

Okay?

Go, go, go.

[Eerie noise]

[Sentry screams]

[Pickaxe strike]

[Sentry continues screaming]

[Brandon drops]

[Sentry continues screaming]

[Colquit screaming]

Lemme see it.

Stop. I can't move, just here.

Here. Take this.

- Come with,

- Take this. I can't move Sentry.

Just take this and go up the mountain

and finish this.

Okay?

[Barn door bursts open]

[Sentry takes off running]

[Door creaks open]

[Jarring screech echoes]

[Sentry runs frantically

through the Forest]

[Jarring echoes]

[Thud as Sentry hits the ground screaming]

[Gilbert Flay's voice echoes]

- DO

NOFEAR

ME.

[Thunder rumbling]

[Suspenseful music]

[Gilbert Flay growls]

[Thud Sentry hits the ground]

[Gilbert Flay hovers toward Sentry]

Gilbert Flay.

I found one of your stones.

[Sentry hands the stone]

[Out of breath]

[Slow music]

I

SEE

YOUR

HEART.

[Gilbert Flay falls to his Knees]

[Stone cracks open]

[Gilbert Flay Groans]

[Flash]

[Woman Laughing]

Not gonna do that.

I hope he does not have

your sense of humor.

So

what do you think?

What should his name be?

I Love you.

[Footsteps]

[Car door opens]

[Teresa V.O.]

- The only reason we look back

is to see, how far we've come.

[Car door closes]

[Ambient forest noise]

[Birds chirping]

[ATV engine]

[Music]

[Tarp Rustles]

[Thud]

[Reese. Jr struggles]

[Reese]

- Almost. Come on now.

Right here. Right here.

[Reese. Jr panting]

Get started.

[Reese. Jr digging]

Don't stop

[Reese drops the box]

Higher.

Hey!

[Reese. Jr crying]

Here we go.

Higher. Hey!

[Digging continues]

[Birds chirping]

[Music]

[Footsteps]

[Reese. Jr]

- Papa.

Who is it son?

Who are those people we buried?

Nobody. Don't worry about them.

They're gone Now.

Were they bad?

Everybody has a little

bit of bad in 'em.

Am I bad?

What?

Hey. Hey. You're good. All right.

You were just doing what

you were told. That's it.

You're a good son.

I'm,

I am proud of you.

Yes pa.

You're gonna be a good man Junior.

Better than me,

better than your grandfather,

better than all of us.

You hear me?

Yes. Papa.

And

one day you're gonna

realize that sometimes

to do the right thing, you

have to do something you hate.

But um!

That doesn't change what's in your heart.

Because what's... in your heart

I know...

Is special.

You understand?

Yes Papa.

Okay,

[Footsteps]

[Music]

Come on.

Yes, Papa.

- Just stay back.

- Alright?

[Footsteps]

[Ominous music]

Okay.

It's done.

Now where's my money?

This is the young man

I've been waiting to meet.

What's your name son?

You ain't talking to him.

Talkin to me.

[Aims the g*n]

Now where's my money?

Papa?

Stay behind me. Junior.

Grab that bag son. Go.

[Footsteps]

Can I put my hands down now?

It's a free country.

Open the bag.

What the hell

You son of a Black b.

You think you own me?

I know I do.

Because you're a smart guy.

[Chuckles]

You know I'm probably not the only person

that knows about those pictures.

Hell, I didn't take 'em.

So you probably know, if

you pull that trigger,

you could be making your son a fugitive,

orphan or ward of the state.

Maybe all three at the same damn time.

This isn't over.

[Laughs]

I know it isn't.

It's just beginning Reese.

[Tense music]

Hey, in the future,

when I call you, answer the phone.

Or what?

Or, don't.

It's a free country.

I'll be seeing you around kiddo.

You can be sure of that.

[Tense music]

Didn't your mama tell you

not to play with your food?

I always finished my plate.

Wow auntie!

You look fabulous.

[Evelyn] - That's because

I am fabulous nephew.

Why him?

I needed someone special.

At what cost?

Is that rhetorical?

It is not.

Okay.

It costs me

It costs us.

Us.

It costs us $150,000

to rent out that park,

and extra 50k to put my

white enemy into sl*very.

What is money for if not for that?

But what about Miss Sentry Day?

That I admit was a surprise.

But all experiments have

their own uncertainties.

But what are you gonna do with her?

Nothing?

No one's going to believe her

and she doesn't have any proof.

And if she starts going

through her family tree?

You mean, "our" family tree?

Hopefully she does the same thing we did.

So hope is a part of your plan.

A small part.

Whoever hates their brother...

Whoever hates their

brother, walks in darkness

and they cannot see where they're going.

[Bee buzzing]

[Music]

[Keys clacking on keyboard]

[Music builds in Tempo]

[Music tempo rising]

[End credits music playing]
