02x03 - In Search Of A Miracle

This programme contains very strong

language from the outset and

throughout.

(WHISTLE BLOWS)

(CROWD CHATTER)

(TENSE MUSIC)

COMMENTATOR:

Trafford second best in that one,

and Everton have scored, and

Headed down by Tarkowski.

Chance for Keane.

And Michael Keane's in again.

And the former Burnley man

turns it home to rub salt

into the home side's wounds.

Boys.

We've got to do every f*cking

part of the game to its fullest.

Two set plays, lads.

When a set play gets done in

training, are we having a laugh

when it's going in

or when we're missing a block?

Cos I'd like to see someone

nail someone in the team

who's not doing his job.

It's a f*cking set play.

Blockers, block. Block!

You've got to block.

First contactors, jump!

You f*cking jump.

There's no debate about this.

# JOHNNY CASH: Ain't No Grave #

# When I hear that trumpet sound

# I'm gonna rise right

outta the ground

# Ain't no grave

can hold my body down

# Well, look way down the river

# What do you think I see?

# I see a band of angels

# And they're coming after me

# Ain't no grave can hold

my body down #

(REFLECTIVE MUSIC)

(INDISTINCT CHATTER)

I expect that the board will be

frustrated with how we're playing

and where we are,

but at the same time,

I hope that they are pleased

with how we're doing

business-wise and commercially.

We're looking to cover really kind

of three things.

"What are your costs?

"Why have you chosen

those sets of costs?

"And what are your revenue options?"

One of the most significant

ends up being player trading.

OK. Thank you, everyone,

for making it.

Um, we're gonna try

and keep it punchy.

BOARD MEMBER: "Are

we're gonna cover today the strategy

"for the January transfer window."

We'll let Lee walk us through

as to kind of where we are

on the team side.

I know it sucks

being in the Premier League

and getting dipped every week.

It's no fun, right?

Um, but we have to see passed

some of this stuff.

We're trying to develop a young team

to play an expansive style

of football in the harshest league

in the world.

It's tough, but it's like the casino

business, right?

We're all signed up

to live on a roulette wheel.

We could have picked a team of old

mercenaries, right?

On one-year deals, no asset value,

no resale value,

and your relegation probability is

pretty much the same.

So, where is this heading?

What are you concluding?

That the season is done and we

should recalibrate and start again?

I mean what message am

I gonna take away?

There's a few messages.

So, I think one is,

if we wanna stay

in the Premier League,

we can be really precise

about what it costs to do that

and what resources we need

and what players we need to do it.

That has a, what, a 35% probability

of happening right now,

barring any other miracles that

Vince can pull off between now

and the end of the season.

So, hang on, let me understand it.

You're saying the 35% probability is

if we do nothing

and just stay with this team?

Yeah.

And hopefully we'll

end up in 17 or higher?

Yes.OK,

so it's a one-in-three shot.Yes.

You've got the transfer window

coming up.

Yeah.

Is there anything that can be

done in the transfer window?

Like, can we go buy

or get one, two, three, whatever

the number is, impact players

that will increase

that 35% significantly?

And if that's possible,

what do we think that's gonna cost?

The truth is, to take

any of the permanent options,

they're £15 million players.

Yeah.

Absolutely, but just

I'll be super, super clear.

I am completely, 150%, guys,

we know how to pick players

and find them.

We see some open

areas for strengthening.

And what does that mean,

by when I say "strengthening"?

We're not looking to buy anything,

let's just be clear,

OK? But we do see

that there are potentially some

loans that come into that.

There's no chance on this earth this

club is going anywhere financially

that's gonna cause us any peril.

(INDISTINCT CHATTER)

Our financial reality means that the

club carries quite a lot of debt.

We need to be

able to service that debt

and also generate profit

that can pay it down.

Any strategy that we implement has

to have what we call high liquidity.

So, that kind of ruled out

for us the ability

to go for lots of old players.

We had to go younger,

and you ride them up.

(PLAYERS CHATTER)

It has a risk, though, and the risk

of that is short-term performance.

They're not ready yet, and also,

in the event of a relegation,

you have to sell.

Emotionally I'm calm,

very same as start of the season,

very same as middle of the season.

If you talk about a tough time,

it's a matter of perspective.

My dad, obviously,

before he came to Belgium,

had to live in such extremes.

You know, we're talking about,

you know, being put into working

camps

and literally having to flee the

country to save your life almost

because you're getting in trouble

by

You're in trouble because

you're trying to voice your opinion.

So those are the extremes,

and then my mother as well,

coming from a small

village in Belgium,

having to go to the big city,

being in a very harsh school as well.

She was in with the nuns.

What I'm trying to say with this is

that if I look back at the story

of my dad, if I look back at the

story of my mum

They battled on. They battled through

anything in terms of challenges.

(TENSE MUSIC)

COMMENTATOR: Approaching the halfway

point of the season

and Burnley are still

rooted to the bottom three.

Two days before Christmas and the

clock is ticking for Burnley.

They've got plenty to do if they're

gonna stay in the Premier League.

If they're gonna do it,

they have to start now.

Boys, if we're ready,

start closing that circle.

BELLAMY: No regrets, Burnley.

Leave f*cking nothing out there.

Brownie, a few words for us, please.

Lads, today it's about f*cking

believing in everything that we do.

Play quick, play forward.

Let's f*cking go, boys, eh?

Believe. Come on.

(ALL SHOUT ENCOURAGEMENT)

We're in a position now where

we're trying to get the results.

Let's just go out and do our all

and see what can happen.

CROWD: Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley! Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley!

COMMENTATOR:

And he advances into the area,

and pushed away by James Trafford.

(FANS SING)

Burnley are hanging on here.

There's Odobert to Foster.

Odobert has gone for the return!

Brilliant goal.

Sander Berge. 2-0 to Burnley.

It's a brilliant Burnley win.

They'll be driving home

for Christmas with three points

in the bag

in their battle to survive.

Do we have a plan, and are we gonna

stay with that plan?

Yes.

We've brought together a great

group of talented young men,

and we have an amazing coaching

staff led by an incredible manager.

The plan is they get better

together.

It's Bailey. Villa are in front.

Burnley are level

almost immediately.

And put away by Moussa Diaby.

Lyle Foster.

Fantastic finish. It's 2-2.

(CROWD CHEER)

Burnley's hearts broken.

(WHISTLE BLOWS)

A cruel twist right at the end

which has gone against them.

My understanding of some situations

in a game is getting tested.

Vincent, which?

Which specifics?Yes, please.

You'll have to allow me

to have a flashback.

(WHISTLE BLOWS)COMMENTATOR: Sander

Berge's gonna be in trouble here.

A yellow card to be handed soft,

really soft.

This is his second yellow card.

And then the second yellow card,

even softer.

And then there's the disparity.

One of our lads just got cleaned out.

Not a yellow card.

Did I mention the handball yet?

Lyle Foster after that.

Oh, handball there.

The ball gets taken

away from my player,

denying a goal-scoring opportunity.

CROWD: Off, off, off!

That's it. We just move on.

It's not even a rant, guys.

It's the first time I'm having

an open reflection about, like,

"Am I getting it wrong,

or is something else wrong?"

Villa looking for the penalty.

(WHISTLE BLOWS)

Penalty, soft.

(CROWD CHEERS)It's off the crossbar

and in off the goalkeeper.

Off goes Burnley,

and we've lost the game.

Off goes Burnley,

and you've lost the game.

Do you think Burnley's perceived

status as a club or anything?

Um Um, I I I don't for one

second think that that's

..representative of anybody

in the game, you know.

I don't think so. So it's

I'm cynical right now, that's all.

It's me. Forget about it.

(BIRDS TWEET)

Because we're not as big as the

clubs at the top of the table,

when it comes into the big

decisions, some of 'em

will just get brushed under the

carpet on Match of the Day,

that means the referees

don't get under pressure,

because, you know, we're not

the biggest club in this division.

We've just been on the wrong side

of the result, I'd probably say,

a lot of the time this year. (SIGHS)

It's been very difficult because

for me we've been in so many games,

a little bit of luck

has not gone away.

You know, you can include

VAR into a lot of situations

with a little bit of being unlucky.

I just find it inconsistent.

There's too many similar situations,

or in the same category,

which is like 50/50 one week

it's a foul

and 50/50 the next week not a foul.

We obviously realise

where we are in the table.

As long as we're playing

and there is games

and points to play for,

I'll always look forward,

and we've always got

a chance to change things.

I mean, we've just got to stick

together on the pitch,

just try and make sure that we win.

Then we'll see after 38 games

how it stands.

PUNDIT: Burnley v Luton,

bottom of the table clash.

Massive game, this, for both sides,

especially for Burnley. You can't

can't really slip up here

if you wanna stay in touch

with Luton, Everton, Brentford,

and this one is one

you have to get three points.

O'SHEA:

f*cking believe it as well lads, eh?

Worked all f*cking week for this.

Come on.

(PLAYERS SHOUTING ENCOURAGEMENT)

Let's roll it, boys. Come on.

Play with a smile.

(APPLAUSE)

CROWD: Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley! Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley! Come on, Burnley!

COMMENTATOR: And it's there.

That could be massive

in this season's battle

against relegation.

Burnley 1, Luton 0.

And we're into additional time.

Five added minutes. Burnley still

clinging to a slender lead.

Trafford holds on. He is just

seconds away from what

would only be his third Premier

League clean sheet of the season.

The ball's swung in.

Trafford tries to come for it.

Doesn't get to it. Morris does!

(CROWD CHEERS)

It's the equaliser for Luton

in the dying moments of the game.

And Trafford

looked like he was impeded.

ANNOUNCER: "We are checking

for a possible foul."

And VAR are checking for a possible

foul on James Trafford.

Burnley are adamant he was fouled.

Luton Town feel there is no case

to answer.

(WHISTLE BLOWS)

It's been given. The goal stands.

(FANS CHEER AND BOO)Luton

have their last-gasp equaliser.

Burnley denied a precious victory

and in the most

controversial of circumstances.

(INDISTINCT PA ANNOUNCEMENT)

(CROWD COMPLAINING)

(CROWD BOOING)

Rubbish! Rubbish!

The disgrace! Disgrace!

Right, are we gonna home or what?

I've just had enough.

It's disgusting.

f*cking Shame on Premier League.

f*cking It's a disgrace.

Right, I'm going. Come on.

(LUTON FANS SING)

(INDISTINCT PA ANNOUNCEMENT)

PLAYER:

Came round the back of his head.

PRESENTER: "The PGMOL statement says

that this is just a collision."

"Fouls are collisions.

What do you think he's looking at?

"He's looking at the keeper, takes

two steps back, to back into him.

"(SCOFFS): What is it?

"If we concede this goal and it is

consistent and this is allowed,

"if everyone can do it, then I'll

tell my strikers to go on and do it,

"if not there, on set pieces,

on everything.

"It just keeps happening.

"I want people to understand as well

how much this is against my nature,

"to complain about such things.

"I wanna get on with the game.

I wanna play football

"and I wanna tell my lads

when they've done a bad job

"and when they've done a good job,

but here I'm like,

"'What do I go and tell them?'"

Matt, we're going legal on this one.

OK?

This is absolute insanity.

You can see it clearly.

It's on the TV.

Every single person is saying it.

The commentators on the field

talking to the manager

right now saying,

"Hey, you know, we thought

originally that it might not be,

but now that we

see it, it's pretty clear."

What are the rules?

What do I have to legally do?

I have angry investors

saying, "Sue the League,"

and another letter saying "we let

you down" is not going to be OK.

Do something.

I can't live through this each time.

That's the point. It's like,

I know there's gonna be more.

Cool.

I talked to the Premier League.

MAN: Yeah?

He told me, "The fact

that you have never called me

on a refereeing decision tells me

exactly how strong you feel

on this," and I said,

"Listen, I'm gonna tell you

"that the first thing

that I think is get legal,

"figure out the rules and

come at you with a ton of bricks."

I said,

"But the unemotional side of me

"that you're gonna get on Sunday

is, I'm gonna get it fixed,

"but I don't know how yet.

"So, why don't you guys figure

that out right now, OK?

"Because you're gonna agree,

and you're gonna send the apology."

He goes, "I know it's coming,"

and I said,

"I know it's coming too," I said,

"and I'm not going to accept that.

"OK? I am publicly not

going to accept that.

"I am publicly going to say,

'This is unacceptable,'"

I said, "but we can decide now how

this actually goes down the path

"of ending in the right way."

Right.

"No, no, no, no, this isn't OK."

"Hello,

this is Good Morning Transfers.

"The January window is open,

"and Premier League teams

have until 11pm

"on February the 1st to get

their"

REPORTER: "Vincent Kompany's hoping

he can add

"to his Burnley squad this month.

"They're 19th,

five points from safety."

What is not on this

list at the moment, guys,

it's the short-term impact that

changes this season around.

I think what we've got is

players who strengthen the squad

and can play a positive

role during the last bits

I think

the reality is

we're gonna rely mostly

on the players

who are playing right now.

What we've said is we don't

think anybody

that doesn't have

Premier League potential, so-

I think it really comes

down to the two names on the left.

You've got Dia and Fofana,

which Matt had interesting numbers,

Alan.

I just can't see the boy in Italy

being

done this window.

Now, from the conversation

you'd had with the agent,

the club haven't come back,

but we were told that Milan

had been quoted 15 million,

and if they've

been quoted 15 and they've not

Done it. (LAUGHS)

done it, then that says it all.

Just to be clear. Did you just say

we're competing with Milan

on this one?Yes.

AC Milan, yeah.They called about

somebody we have on our squad,

so, I mean (LAUGHS)

The Premier League is changing.

(LAUGHS)I think that's the least

likely of the two.

So, we move on to Fofana.

Your conversation with

your contact was positive,

looks good.

If we were getting out the wallet

for, like, a long-term deal,

I would say he's got all the tools

at his age that, like Lyle Foster,

where you can tell that he can score.

OK. Make the offer tonight.

Yeah.

REPORTER: "Vincent Kompany will

hope his Burnley side can avoid

"being cut adrift in the relegation

battle"

"They had a late disappointment

in the Prem,

"but they've completed the signing

of David Datro"

"Burnley have brought in the forward

on loan until the season end."

DIRECTOR: Do you often

stay in hotels on this job?

Tends to be transfer window

if we've got something going on.

I left home yesterday morning,

normal time.

It was quite nice, I suppose,

yesterday morning,

cos my two boys are in

They've got breakfast club

at school,

so I got to drop them off at school,

cos they were in a bit early.

My youngest son, he doesn't really

understand Deadline Day,

other than the signing reveals

and things that we do.

"Daddy, Daddy,

there'll be a new player,

"there'll be a new player tomorrow.

"I like it

when you sign new players."

This window for me has been

probably the most challenging,

not just because

of the dynamic of the window

but on a personal level.

My dad's been really, really poorly.

He's got cancer. He's been

in hospital having operations.

I have to say, last weekend I was

foul to live with

because I'm worried about my dad.

My dad's having an operation,

my phone's non-stop,

and that's making you

sort of question your priorities,

and your priorities

has got to be your family.

But at the same time,

you don't wanna let anyone down,

and you feel that if you don't

take the call,

if you don't respond to the

messages, that you're letting Alan,

Vinny, the club, the fans down,

and

..you can't please everyone

all the time.

The transfer window,

it wrecks your life.

(LINE RINGING)

Vinny, I tell you what,

you're the last person I spoke to

before I went to sleep,

and you're the first person

I'm speaking to when I get up.

"Try and get some players out."

Yeah, yeah. See you in a bit. Bye.

(LINE RINGING)

Morning, Kieran. You OK?

Just to give you a heads up,

Anass wants to go to Hull.

He spoke to the manager

after our game last night,

said he wanted to go out

on loan and play some games.

"OK. Is there any chance of him

speaking to Mike,

"or is that done and dusted?

Nothing's signed.

Nothing's drafted.

(LINE RINGING)

"Just a quick one.

"With Anass coming on last night,

does that change the dynamic?"

He's going to Hull.

I've spoke to Kieran.

(LINE RINGING)

"Do you think I shouldn't

let Anass go?"

Um"If something

were to happen to Odobert,

"we're in the hands of"Have you

discussed it with the staff?

(LINE RINGING)"Michael Carrick

wants to speak to Anass.

"Are they allowed to do that?"

I'm not fussed about that,

Jenks, to be fair.

"Alright. OK."

What he needs to do,

he needs to get the player on board

because whatever we agree with Hull,

we'll agree with Middlesborough.

Incomings, we're waiting on a

decision from a French right back.

(LINE RINGING)

"Hey."

Hi, I'm just driving in.

I've seen your message.

The French lad, Assignon.

We've not had the answer yet.

The agent was seeing

the player at 7:30

our time.

"What happened to the 7 o'clock

flight to Turkey?

Galatasaray rang me late,

late last night to tell me that they

weren't in for the player.

Now, whether or not that was

a tactic from Galatasaray to try

and flush out

if we were genuine or not,

I guess we'll see in the next 15,

20 minutes where that's at.

(INTERNATIONAL DIALLING TONE)

No answer from the

French kid's agent.

Never a good sign.

Morning, Crabby.

Good morning, Matthew

Crabbers, do you want

an update of what's going on today,

or I could go on?

Come on, then.

Erm, so, estimation complete.

We've still got some

I's to dot,

T's to cross with Montpelier

..but I expect that to complete

this morning.

It's a toss-up on right-backs

between Assignon

or Meunier or neither.

Those are the only ins likely.

Are these two realistic?

I'll let you know.

Morning. You okay?

Good.

No, no, no,

I totally understand that.

Unfortunately, we both know that the

football world is full of bullshit.

There's been no conversations

ever about Vincent's future.

He has the full support

of the football club,

the ownership, the directors.

There's nobody at this football club

that wants Vincent to leave.

I would go as far as to say even if

Barcelona

and Real Madrid came in

for Vincent now,

he would stay here

till the end of the season.

Right.

I understand your position 100%,

but I think you understand my

position as well, don't ya?

We have the option to,

and we have to notify the club

by let's say 31st of

May of our intention to do it.

We would have to reach an agreement

on personal terms with you

and the player before we activated

that option.

Leave it with me, mate.

Erm, so it is

Well, it depends.

If he's done that well

and keeps us

up, you'll be able to get

You'll be able to get more money

for the player

than we'll be able to pay, so

I know my owner well enough to know

that if we are in the Championship

and we activate

the option for 10 million

and you bring us a £15 million

option from somewhere else

then he's not gonna complain

at that either. He's a businessman.

Alright!

I was rounding up, not down.

(LAUGHS)

Yeah, yeah, that works for me.

So we'll look at a private jet,

as well as scheduled,

whichever is the quickest

to get here.

Yeah, OK, I'll let everybody know

to prepare,

that we need a medical, et cetera.

Yeah, OK. OK. Cheers, bye.

(BREATHES DEEPLY)

(LINE RINGING)Vinny, I just spoke

to the French lad's agent.

So, we'll get on

with sorting that out now.

Right, I'll

(LINE BEEPING)I'll crack on.

REPORTER: Hi, good evening, welcome

along to Transfer Deadline Day.

REPORTER: "News just reaching us,

and Hull City are interested

"in signing the Burnley winger

Anass Zaroury."

Hi, how are you? Jack from Burnley.

You OK?Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you. Lorenz, you OK?

Yeah, fine. How are you?All good?

English is OK?

Er, yeah. I can understand, but,

you know, it's not perfect.That's

fine. It's better than my French.

(SPEAKING FRENCH):

(LAUGHS)

I've got to thank you. Thank you.

Well done.I'll see you later.

I'll speak to you in a bit.You come

to life in these moments.(LAUGHS)

You look younger

during the transfer window.(LAUGHS)

Hey,

get the real news on about Lorenz.

What have you got for us?

"Let's get some breaking news now.

It comes from Burnley."

Lorenz!

"One over the line there?"

"Yes, Lorenz Assignon,

who's a right back."

MAN: Well done, Matt.

Today was tough.

Mentally?

Mentally, on the back of last night.

MAN: It's been a long day,

hasn't it?

Been a long couple of days.

(SEVERAL LAUGH)

(AIR HISSES)

(MAN LAUGHS)

(PEOPLE CHATTER)

MAN: Well done.

(APPLAUSE)

(TENSE MUSIC)

COMMS: The locals unhappy because

a promising start to the game

for Burnley has evaporated

in the space of four minutes.

Going into the second half,

there is plenty for Burnley to do.

All three of their new January

signings are on the pitch

but are yet to make an impact.

(CROWD CHANT AND APPLAUD)

Here come Burnley on the break.

It's a great ball to Assignon.

Assignon has a look.

Plenty waiting in the middle.

And there's Fofana!

(CROWD CHEERS)

Welcome to Burnley,

David Datro Fofana.

(INAUDIBLE SPEECH)

(CROWD ROAR ENCOURAGEMENT)

Tete can't get control of this.

Odobert. Fofana!

(CROWD CHEERS)

Turf Moor has a new hero!

Two goals on his home debut,

and he may well have rescued

a point for the Clarets.

Come on!

(WHISTLE BLOWS)

(CROWD CHEERS)

Full time.

That's it, and in some ways,

it will feel like a victory.

From two down,

they recovered to pick up

what may well prove to be

a priceless point.

MAN: The man!

MAN 2: Well done.

MAN 3: Come on, mate!

MAN 4: Lorenz. Pardon.

(SEVERAL LAUGH)

Mm.

Yeah.

Get it out the way, then yeah?

Nah.

MAN: Are they in this one?

Yeah, boys, I mean,

the new players who just joined us,

f*cking immense. Brilliant.

But that's what it takes.

You know, you think it's

gonna be about 11 players starting.

Is it f*ck.

It's gonna be about people

having their moments,

and we don't know who it is,

we don't know when it is,

and it's gonna be about

togetherness and belief.

Belief, belief,

belief in everything we do.

Fifteen games we go all out.

Understood? Alright.

Well done, boys.

(APPLAUSE)

(PLAYERS SHOUT ENCOURAGEMENT)

PRESENTER: "Burnley have only had

three wins so far this season.

"They come off the back of an

incredibly successful

"Championship

season when they took 101 points.

PUNDIT: "Well, the thing

I've noticed about Burnley,

"they're actually doing

OK within the games,

"and then when they get their

chances they're not taking 'em."

PUNDIT 2: "They're now getting

to that point where heart

"and performances don't mean much.

"Points are everything

at the moment."

On behalf of those who are asking

questions,

if there are people who are worried

about the worst-case scenario,

if Burnley start next

season in the Championship,

what effect

would that have on staff?

As far as I'm concerned,

we're staying up.

There's no other way to believe.

Total faith

that the guys are gonna do it.

We need everybody in that

same position.

This is the way that we're going.

We're headed that direction,

nothing else,

and if bumps in the road come,

we get knocked around

a little bit on the track,

we get banged up in the car, it's

all OK because you know what?

We can still race tomorrow.

Declan? Dec? Over here.

We're here.

(FANS SHOUT)

FAN: ..in the corner.

You talk often about belief,

but the facts are that you

got 13 points out of 72 available.

What gives you the belief

you can get another 20-odd

from the 42 that you've got left?

One thing you're guaranteed is,

if you give up, you get nothing.

I thought we had a chance

against Liverpool last week though.

You did. You had your moments.

Look, we're making progress.

So now, if you would GIVE us

three points today,

just like generously,

we would welcome it.

CROWD: Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley! Come on, Burnley!

COMMENTATOR: Burnley to start.

(WHISTLE BLOWS)

Vincent Kompany admits Burnley

need victories, not sympathy,

if they're to extend their Premier

League stay past this season.

(CROWD SHOUT ENCOURAGEMENT)

FAN: Come on, Burnley!

I really like the team

that we've got kind of developing.

I have zero concern for that team

continuing to develop.

I'm actually kind of excited

as to how they're playing.

Pops it across for Odegaard,

who sets himself.

(CROWD CHEERS)

And bang, Arsenal are ahead already,

four minutes on the board.

We keep hearing about the plan and

development and youth in the team.

What's conflicting in my mind

is this idea that we've got this

group of talented individuals.

If we go down we have to have a fire

sale again

and bring a load more players in.

Arsenal look for a second.

And they get it.

Are we not in a perpetual cycle

of always

having players

at the start of a journey?

Saka has room.

Oh, it's in! Well that's probably

finished the game off.

As much as it

will shock most people,

we will win the Champions League

some day.

Havertz picks it up.

Trossard finishes the job.

But if you don't believe that,

and all you want to do is

win on Saturday,

then the best thing probably

is to go down to the Championship.

Havertz suddenly finding

himself in a fair bit of room,

and he waltzes through.

That is five.

Why would he go anywhere?

(ALL LAUGH)

Listen to what he says, OK?

He talks about the project, OK?

No, I know.

I know, but he's not going anywhere.

The project is him.

How long that that goes,

I've come into it with my eyes open

because I also know what

football's like.

(WHISTLE BLOWS)

Arsenal blow Burnley away to keep

the pressure on their title rivals.

The Gunners made light work

of the struggling Clarets,

who never truly got into the game.

It's not about the result,

not about the goals we conceded.

But, guys, at half time, you

looked like a team that was beaten.

In this dressing room at half time,

body language was down.

Where's the character?

Where's the personality

in moments when it's tough?!

It's about "over my dead body".

That's what it takes.

(PLAYERS CHATTER)

PUNDIT: "Lee, what's going

on? Another bad performance."

"We were so bad. It was horrendous.

The worst performance of the season,

"so far,

cos it's probably gonna get worse."

That little movement

is the whole detail, boys.

"Do you know what? They've been

dreadful. They've been dreadful.

"Kompany, he must know defensively

his team are all over the place.

"They've gotta do better."

"His in-game management

is absolutely shocking.

"He's just ripped the heart

outta the team."

"They look weak physically.

"The stats against this team,

it's pretty embarrassing."

I put a tweet out on Sunday morning

to sort of remind us

to get behind Vincent,

and you know, the rhetoric

and the vitriol behind some of the

comments is just hard to accept.

I can't read social media.

The hardest part for me is, like,

you can sit there and try

and explain and explain

and give people as much information

as possible,

but if they won't even

try to believe,

or to have any kind of faith in the

process or in what you're doing,

then what's the point?

Trust me, if results don't

improve it's gonna get worse.

If things don't go the way we had

hoped they'd go on the field

..everything that is

wrong with Burnley Football Club,

you know, will increase ten-fold.

I think we've all f*cking missed

that winning feeling, eh?

Today,

go out and show f*cking passion.

Fight for the f*cking shirt.

Stick together.

Do everything

we know that we need to do.

Show some f*cking passion today.

It has to start today.

Three f*cking points.

Nothing else will do.

We know the situation we're in.

It's gotta f*cking start now, lads,

and we all do it there together

cos everyone out there

has f*cking written us off.

I had a f*cking

interview at the start of the week,

and they think we're f*cking done.

Today, we show them

we're not f*cking done.

Come on, lads, let's f*cking go.

(PLAYERS SHOUT ENCOURAGEMEN

AND APPLAUD)

CROWD: Come on, Burnley.

Come on, Burnley.

Come on, Burnley. Come on, Burnley!

(APPLAUSE)

(CROWD BOO)

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

(INAUDIBLE SPEECH)

(MUSIC CONTINUES)

(INAUDIBLE SPEECH)

Wehave to f*cking change this.

We've been scared.

Scared of f*cking what?

Are you afraid of making mistakes?

What? What is it?

Why are we hesitating

to go into a challenge?

It's fear,

and you can't let fear ever

You can't let life be dictated

by fear, ever.

At the end of the day, boys,

it's just football, right?

You're not fighting

w*r in Ukraine or wherever.

We're not in Gaza here.

It's just football,

the best job in the world.

It's the best job in the world,

and you're gonna be here with fear?

So, how are you feeling

after the weekend?

(BIRDS CHIRP)

You get tested in moments like this.

It's easy to say,

"Do you know what? It's not for me.

"It's not my fault. I give up."

But in being here you take

responsibility,

and you keep going till the end.

This is part of what you

have to go through.

Do you think the guys can keep,

you know,

kinda the noise blocked out

for a while?

There's tough days, but there's no

There's no down days, you know?

What's pressure?

You know, is it putting

food on the table for your kids,

or is it doing the job you love,

with the consequences, you know?

It's changing the perspective

sometimes of the players, and

..looking at the opportunities,

as opposed to the consequences,

you know. It's a mindset.

I'd like to think that in a few

years' time, I'll look back on this

and say, "This is what made me,

this is what defined me,

"this is what", you know.

I'm looking forward to the week after

the season

(LAUGHS)

..where I can reflect on everything,

draw the lessons.

Agreed. Agreed. Yeah.

(INHALES SHARPLY) Well

we continue.

Always. We go, we go, we go.

You're OK? You've got Turf

Moor under control?(LAUGHS)

I've got Turf Moor under control.

(LAUGHS)

I don't think people understand.

I keep getting asked all the time,

you know,

"Are you gonna keep the faith?

"You're not gonna let him go?"

You have no idea.

Why would I even think?

Like,

that doesn't even enter the mind.

This is

This is so much more enjoyable,

as I said,

I sleep better at night knowing

you're in charge.(BOTH LAUGH)

It'll be fine.

It will.

It will be fine.

I'm not worried.

PUNDIT:

"Burnley v Bournemouth, which, well,

"I mean, Bournemouth are in decent

form. Not so much Burnley."

"A lot on the line for Burnley.

11 points from safety.

"You think Burnley, being honest,

are more or less down?"

You want to do the best

for this football club,

and you want to play at the highest

level yourself, as a player.

Relegation is obviously something

you don't really wanna speak about

because you don't wanna, I suppose,

speak it into existence.

But it's always there.

I feel like, sort of, the last ten,

eleven years I've been

in the Premier League, ten,

nine of them

have been fighting relegation. So,

relegation battles are always tough.

They're always tough.

There's a lot of pressure

from knowing that if you go down,

people's jobs are on the line,

and people get sacked,

and, yeah, it's not nice.

It is very draining.

We go from the beginning to the end,

flat out.

We leave NOTHING on the pitch.

Only opportunity today, boys.

Alright? We f*cking go.

Let's go. Come on!

(PLAYERS SHOUTING ENCOURAGEMENT)

Let's go, Traffs, come on.

Nothing to f*cking lose. Come on.

COMMENTATOR: This is a huge game for

Burnley in their fight for survival.

CROWD: Come on, Burnley!

Come on, Burnley! Go on, Burnley!

Burnley get the ball rolling.

It's Kluivert!(CROWD CHEER)

He takes his chance,

and Bournemouth are ahead.

Burnley are being out-fought

and out-thought here.

Bournemouth are on top here.

Every time they go forward,

they look a real threat.

(CROWD EXCLAIM)

(CROWD CHEER)

2-0 Bournemouth,

and that is game over for Burnley.

(WHISTLE BLOWS)

Turf Moor is crushed.

(CROWD BOO)

(CROWD CLAMOUR)

f*ck off! f*ck off!

(CROWD BOO)

(CROWD CLAMOUR)

(BOTH ARGUING)

(PLAYERS CONTINUE ARGUING)

PLAYER: f*ck ya, now.

MAN: Jesus f*cking Christ.

Our objective should be to win.

"They're running out of games

and time."

Show from the first minute to the

last minute who we f*cking are.

COMMENTATOR:

A priceless goal for Burnley.

I honestly believe we're gonna

get out of this situation.

If we don't win, our season's over.

"We have some breaking news."

"Bayern are on the verge of agreeing

a deal for Vincent Kompany."

I've got £200 million sitting on

that pitch that I'm in trouble for.

MATT: We're not being bent over

and bullied.

How many of you guys

have had a really,

really bad week ever in your life?
