A human enters a tournament of demons to become the king of demons.

01x12 - The Spirit of Faith

Post by bunniefuu »

[narrator] Helck, Vermilio,

and Piwi resume their journey

after defeating the warrior

of darkness in a fierce battle.

And thereby learn the

details of his tragic past.

[opening theme]

[THE SPIRIT OF FAITH]

[dramatic fanfare]

[warriors roaring]

[intense music]

[swords clanking]

[sword slashing]

It's over this time.

You're dead.

You just don't know

when to give up.

[swords clashing]

I'm six for six.

You are far better

at dying than fighting.

Shut up.

I won't lose this time.

[warriors roaring]

[Ista]

The humans launched another

offensive on Castle Urum,

but our forces were able

to repel them.

Then, Lord Azudra led an

as*ault team

and was able to retake

Castle Thor.

We immediately reinforced

the castle defenses

to stand against the

invading human army.

However, the humans can

resurrect over and over again

["LAND OF HUMANS" BORDER

FORTRESS]

and without the risk of death,

they have been able to

launch attack after attack.

Fortunately, our defenses

include many of the warriors

who participated in the

New Demon Lord Tournament.

They've been able to

fend off defeat thus far.

[crowd chattering]

[sword slashing]

[cloth tearing]

Gotcha.

[sword slashing]

Yeah, not quite!

[Ista] We still hold the

upper hand for now,

but once they reach their

full hero potential,

it's going to become impossible

for us to deal with him.

Just thinking about

the future fills me

with uncertainty and dread.

But that being said, this is

no time to lose my courage.

Times like these are

when it's most important

to stand firm and have faith.

All righty! Attention, everyone,

it's lunchy time! Who's hungry?

Please follow the lunch schedule

and wait for your shift.

Hell yeah! I'm, like, starving!

[warrior 1] Dude, did ya see the

invisible attack I pulled off?

[warrior 2] Totally!

Couldn't see a thing!

Well, somebody has to fight!

Check it out man. Got

a wicked battle scar.

Badass! I'm kind of jelly.

Sign up here if you're

missing limbs or injured.

[warrior 3] I got me

a battle scar too!

[warrior 4] [laughs] Nice, bro!

[Ista] I'm sure deep down

they're all just

as worried as me.

Lord Azudra,

we have fended off

yet another round of attacks.

Yes. Excellent work.

[Hon] Alas, we have only

managed to apprehend

five of their winged knights.

They have obviously taken steps

to avoid letting themselves

be captured alive.

[Azudra] Considering

the battles to come,

I was hoping to use this chance

to weaken their forces

as much as possible.

But our plan for prisoners

doesn't seem like

it's going to pay off

as much as I thought.

I'd say so.

[Ista] Excuse me, sir.

[Azudra] Please, come in Ista.

Lord Azudra we have the results.

The rank and file

soldiers of the human army

have increased to

combat level 30.

Their leader, Edil, has

gone up to combat level 36.

This being the second

time he has leveled up.

Right. They are

progressing quickly.

Raising one's combat level

by just one requires a fair

amount of intense training.

But they've jumped levels after

only a handful of battles.

I have to say,

the aspects that come along

with hero status are remarkable.

[Azudra] We'll need to

reinforce the army soon,

otherwise we'll start

taking heavy casualties.

[Hon] We are already

short on soldiers

on all fronts, sire.

Yeah. We may need to move up

the timeline of our plan.

That said, I also have a report

where we measured the

levels of our own forces.

First platoon leader Hyura

has reached level 52.

First platoon soldier

Rebero has reached level 44.

Third platoon soldier Lelepus

has reached combat level 46,

all higher than before.

[Azudra] Now we're talking,

some good news!

[Hon] I'd expect nothing less

from those aiming

to be Demon Lord.

We are proving we can

keep pace with the humans.

Which means we can

hold out longer.

[Hon] [laughs]

Things are looking up.

Hmm.

Something wrong?

No.

Is it my imagination?

[Azudra] Thanks for your report.

Well, it's time for

the daily search.

[Hon] Ah, you really

should take a break, sir.

[Rococo] Excuse me!

[Azudra] Come on in, Rococo.

I've got your tea

right here, Lord Azudra.

Thank you. Set it

down over there please.

Are you sure you're

not doing yourself harm

by using your magic

every day?

A shoulder rub might

do you some good.

No, that's okay.

I'm perfectly fine.

In tip-top shape, actually.

That is a lie, sir.

You could fall down

dead at any moment.

Shut your mouth!

[Rococo] Just please

don't take it too far.

The morale of the troops

would plummet

if anything were to

happen to you.

[Azudra] Yes, yes.

I'm very important.

But look, if I have

no luck today,

I'll only use the spell

every other day instead.

Also a lie.

You said that before

and yet, here you

are still doing it.

I said shut your

walrus mouth!

I'm sure you can't help

but be worried.

[Hon] The locator spell's

figurine has continued

to show us the whereabouts

of Lady Vermilio.

Unfortunately, she hasn't

even been on the map.

But as long as it

continues to move,

we have proof that she

is still alive.

I'm sure Lord Azudra knows that

and is using it to make

himself feel better.

Okay, my little friend, show me

where Vermi-germy

is right now.

[spell resonating]

[wood sliding]

Oh, it's moving!

This must be your first time

seeing the locator

spell in action.

It always moves around,

but ends up stopping over

there on the tile floor.

[Azudra screaming]

It actually stopped

on the map this time!

I knew it! Vermi-germy

is on the move!

[Hon] Oh, this is

great news, Lord Azudra.

[Rococo] Congratulations!

[Azudra] God, I'm good.

So, you crossed the ocean.

Glorious.

You never cease

to impress, Vermsie.

Right! No time to

sit on our keisters.

We have a detailed map

of the south somewhere.

Hon, go find it!

[Hon] I'm on it!

Dammit! Those b*stards are

making a laughing stock of us.

That dog-faced mutt!

He used some bullshit

weapon to bite me!

He's dead-freaking-meat

the next time I see him.

[Edil] Do please pipe down.

It's obnoxious.

I don't know why you

are playing it so cool.

Since you keep getting

your a*s handed to you

by that freaky blue b*tch!

She's a strong opponent.

Defeating her is no easy task.

Ha! For you, maybe.

It's like you're ready

to lose every damn time.

Only a reason you

keep going after her

is 'cause you're a

dirty-a*s demon chaser.

You need to watch your tongue,

or I'll have to cut it out!

[knight] Oh no.

Please don't k*ll me.

We're immortal, you dumbass!

[female knight] Enough of your

incessant squabbling.

The demonkin are powerful.

It's only natural for us

to fail at this point.

Besides, you know that

our current goal

has nothing to do with

actually winning.

[knight] Well, we're

certainly not doing that.

[Asta] There they go, bickering

with each other again.

Hard to believe they're

on the same side.

Anyway, rather interesting

what the woman just said.

Winning isn't their goal?

I can only assume that

raising their combat levels

is the main focus for now.

Or is there something

else they're after?

Can we wrap this

sh*t up already?

I'm sick of all of you.

Yeah, right.

Let's get outta here.

[female knight]

Fine then. Everyone,

the meeting is adjourned

for today.

What? They're done already?

I hardly heard enough

to report back.

[tense music]

Who the hell is up there?

[all gasping]

[wind whooshing]

[sighing]

[knight]

I don't sense it anymore.

[Edil] What was it?

I don't know.

Maybe just my imagination.

[Asta] That was close.

[Edil] We should increase

the number of guards.

We don't need a rat

sneaking around in here.

Well, that's new.

Their hero abilities are

definitely becoming sharper.

I'll have to make sure to be

extra careful from now on.

[Hon] Lord Azudra,

I've assembled

the three-man search

party you requested.

They can depart at any time.

[Azudra] Very good.

But if I may,

are you sure you don't

want to send a few more?

No, that will be more

than enough for now.

In the event that Vermi-germy

suddenly changes course,

we might end up

needing to mobilize

another search party

to find her.

[Hon] Pure genius, sire.

Things have been going in our

favor for the past few days,

and Vermi has been consistently

moving right towards us,

which tells me she knows

what direction the empire is.

So if she stays on

her present course,

Our search party should be able

to find her somewhere

near this prairie.

That is, if everything

goes smoothly.

Do you think Helck

is still with her?

Huh?

I just can't imagine

things will end well

for us if he's an enemy.

In fact, the empire is at stake.

The future of our

homeland will be bleak

if that were to happen.

Helck would be a menace

of the highest caliber,

and I've met my

share of menaces.

[Hon sighs]

That said, I don't think

we need to worry.

Vermi-germ has had a

lot of time with Helck

since they passed

through the gate.

And if she has made the decision

to continue traveling with

him after all this time,

it can only mean

that she has determined

Helck is not an enemy.

So Lady Vermilio's either

bringing him along as an ally,

or she left him behind

and we don't even have

to worry about it.

Yes, and I have no qualms

about trusting

Vermi's judgment.

Well, I hope Helck

comes back with her.

There's no greater

ally out there

we could hope for than him.

[Ista] Azudra has a point.

The two of them have been

in constant contact

with each other.

It would be difficult

for even Helck the Hero

to fool someone as

paranoid as Lady Vermilio.

Wait, constant contact?

- Lord Azudra is full of it.

- Oh?

I think we all know

you were convinced Helck

was on our side from the

very first time you met him.

[Ista] Together all day?

Together all night?

[Azudra] Don't be fatuous.

It's like I said before,

Helck's immense power is

a threat to the empire.

And I can't pretend

to be crazy enough

to just go and

blindly trust him.

I mean, trust is

something that has

to be built gradually

over time.

Well, yeah.

That said, I felt a strange

urge to have faith in him.

[Hon] Hmm?

I mean, the whole

thing is a bummer.

Our relationship with the

humans is nothing but bloodshed,

when we could talk it out.

Some of us demons

have good hearts.

Others are dicks.

And it's the same

with the humans.

Some among them wish to sit

at the bargaining table,

and others are dicks.

If things hadn't taken

such a turn,

we all could have found

a way to live

with each other in harmony

like before.

I'm so sorry, old friend.

[intense music]

[ground booming]

[Piwi panicking]

[serpent roaring]

[Piwi screaming]

Piwi! There's even more

of these snake things.

[Helck grunting]

Take a breather!

This time, you stay put.

I'll handle this myself.

[flames roaring]

[intense music]

[Piwi screaming]

[serpent roaring]

[ground booming]

That was totally sweet.

Well done!

You're the coolest, Annie!

Oh, uh, thank you.

[Helck chuckling]

[Vermilio] Ever since

watching Helck lose it

and go berserk on

the dark warrior,

I've been afraid

to turn him loose.

Now, his desire to oppose

the humans seems genuine.

He's not our enemy.

I believe that.

But

after seeing him unleash

such unhinged

and livid rage,

I can't help but start feeling

uneasy about him again.

And yet, we've been

relying on his strength

to get us out of trouble.

I kind of feel bad about it.

[Helck] Anne.

Hmm?

Sun will be up soon.

Let's call it quits for now

and find a good place

for us to camp.

Right.

Good idea.

[Helck] Over here by

this rock should work.

All righty. Guess I'll

cook us up some vittles.

[Piwi] Yeah, I'ma sleep.

[laughs] Pretty big day

today, wasn't it, buddy?

Yeah, I did a bunch of

pointless running around.

[soft music]

[Helck] Anne?

[Vermilio] Huh? What is it?

If you wouldn't mind it, I'd

like some of your time later.

There's something I'd

like to talk to you about.

[fire crackling]

Okay, it's ready.

Oh wow!

You are even a master chef at

making stupid hot chocolate.

We had to do something with

that cocoa powder

we bought in town.

[Vermilio] So, what is it

you wanted to talk about?

Well.

[metal rattling]

Your short sword?

[soft music]

There actually used to

be a little bit more of it.

It was a long sword.

A blade that was known

as the "Hero Slayer."

This is all

that's left of it now.

Did he say "Hero Slayer"?

I know it's crude,

but as the name implies,

it can deal a devastating

amount of damage to a hero.

Now, most of the magic that

dwelled within it has been lost.

But in spite of that, it should

still have enough power left

to end the life of a hero.

I'd like you to hold on to it.

What the?

Did he pick up on

some of the concerns

I've been having?

If it comes to it,

use it on me.

Okay, listen, Helck.

I need to be clear with you.

At the beginning of all this,

I've had my doubts about you.

I was convinced you were

a spy sent by the humans.

[Helck] Hmm?

[Vermilio] Or at the very least,

you had come to wage

w*r on us on your own.

[Helck] Wait, really?

But I don't feel that way now!

I now believe you

are not against us.

It's mainly because

of this journey.

I've gotten to know more

about you and your personality,

and that's the conclusion

I've come to.

Not to mention,

I kind of like that you

carry our luggage,

do the cooking, and stuff.

So don't give me something

to k*ll you with!

I don't want it, okay?

[laughs] If you say so.

It just felt like you were

staring holes through

me sometimes.

Yeah. Sorry.

But listen, I'm sure

you've noticed my temper,

so don't give me that thing.

It's dangerous.

Thank you, Anne.

But still, this is something

that I want you to do for me.

[Vermilio] What do you mean?

[Helck] I'm gonna tell

you about my past,

the power of heroes,

and everything else

that happened

in the human realm

before any of this.

Then once you've

heard the story,

perhaps you will

do me this favor.

[ending theme]

[PIWI'S GLORIOUS TRAVEL JOURNAL]

[narrator] A desert

of green stretches

as far as the eye can see.

There lies Parouse,

a city known as a hub

for supplies and lodging,

knickknacks, foods, clothing,

and scenic beauty.

A bounty of wonder and

lasting memories await

in this oasis of endless spirit.

Stay away from the crazy

yammering street person.

Who is he talking to anyway?

[Piwi] Hey, Annie.

Hmm? What is it?

[Piwi] I'm gonna have

lots of stories

to tell everybody

on the island.

I can scribe everything down

in the travel journal

I got from that weirdo.

Being in a new city is

super exciting, isn't it?

I guess so.

[Piwi]

We strolled first avenue,

the main thoroughfare

of Parouse,

amid a myriad of shacks.

Ice cream! Ice cream!

Get your ice cream here.

Look at how many

merchants there are.

I hope that there are

some nice hotels in town.

[merchant] Hey there, travelers,

care for some ice cream?

[Vermilio] No thanks.

Not interested.

Right, let's find a

place to stay.

Oh, don't be hasty, milady.

Everybody likes ice cream,

and this stuff is good.

I said we're not

interested, pal.

A little ice cream

will brighten your day.

Take yourself gander

at the flavors.

Did you hear me?

We don't want any ice cream!

Besides, what's with your menu?

[SPECIAL MILK, SPECIAL

STRAWBERRY, REGULAR OLD GRAPE]

What do you have against grape?

[merchant] Come on now,

get yourself a sweet treat.

Turn that frown upside down.

[Vermilio] Shut up. I said no!

[merchant] One scoop or two?

[Vermilio] No, God damn it! No!

That's pretty good.

[STRAWBERRY / CHOCOLATE /

REGULAR OLD GRAPE]

Yummy.

The purveyor of ice cream

provided a treat

that was so yum.

Welcome to Parouse Plaza.

According to legend,

this is where

the avian creature, Yustem,

met its end in ages long past.

The plaza has always

been the town square

as people are too afraid

to build homes on top of it.

Is that so? Thanks for

sharing that tidbit with me.

[Piwi clears throat] Annie,

was he a friend of yours?

[Vermilio] Nope.

Just some rabbit dude.

[Piwi] A friendly local

shared with us

the fascinating history

of the town.

Parouse Plaza.

A plethora of exotic goods

were being bought and sold.

[Vermilio] Don't let any of

these people

talk you into buying a bunch

of stupid crap we don't need.

[Piwi humming]

I say, Annie?

Yeah, Piwi?

[Piwi] Thus, we

discovered the cameloinks.

[merchant] Nomads, peddlers,

travelers, you name it!

These cameloinks are the number

one mode of transportation.

If you're passing

through the desert,

there is no better

ride on four legs.

[cameloinks mooing]

They're so stanky.

The cameloinks

were rather pungent.

Hey, Annie, they stink.

[merchant]

Not only will they carry

all your heavy luggage,

but their poop makes for good

fuel because it burns so easy.

And if things get desperate,

you can even use them

as emergency food.

[Vermilio] That's convenient.

This is the first thing

I've been tempted to buy.

It could actually be useful.

But man, they're expensive.

We only have 4,000 to spend.

[merchant] Ah, well for 4,000,

that little fellas about

all you can purchase.

Hey, little puppy.

[merchant] My cheapest

cameloink goes for 10,000.

But you can have that

little cutie for 200.

He eats twice a day and likes

scratches under the chin.

[Vermilio]

We don't want your dog.

[Piwi] With only

8,000 to our names,

we passed on the cameloinks.

[Vermilio] We're getting

sidetracked and wasting time.

Let's hurry up and

find a place to stay.

[Piwi] Annie!

[Vermilio] What do you

think you're doing?

[upbeat music]

I'm dancing! Yeah!

[Vermilio] Uh-huh, well it's

time to go look for an inn.

Check out my moves!

Don't be shy, come join the fun!

Cut it out,

I'm not the dancing type!

[jovial music]

[Helck laughing]

[Piwi laughing]

[both]

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, ugh!

Wiggle, wiggle, ugh!

Ha!

What am I doing?

I'm embarrassing myself.

[all cheering]

Well, wasn't that lovely?

I take it you darlings are

from out of town, right?

Why don't you come

and stay at my hotel?

You know what? I'll hook

you up with a discount.

Oh.

Uh, I think this

might be pricey.

[Piwi] We found refuge at the

town's fanciest establishment.

[LUXURY HOTEL]

[Vermilio]

That is a huge discount.

[Piwi] It was yet another day

of smiles from Helck,

as well as Annie's tantrums,

at which she excels.

Tomorrow we shall gather

our belongings

and embark upon a journey

through the green desert.

But alas, I fear my companions

might lose sight of me,

for I am the same color

as the surrounding sand.

Piwi, time for bed.

Sweet.

[Helck snoring]

[Piwi] Goodnight.

I carry with me the hopes

of another joyful expedition.

[Vermilio] Do you

always have to sleep

with your bird breath

right in my face?

[Piwi] Cheep.

[narrator] Next time:

"With Younger Brother in Tow"
