01x02 - Love & Loss

Post by bunniefuu »

[narrator] Previously on Hit & Run:

- [Segev] If you have to move to New York

- I probably won't even get the job.

- You'll get it.

- I'll be back soon.

Hey, Tzion, you take care

- [in Hebrew] I need your help.

- Sure.

Segev, I got him. The guy who hit Dani.

- Rami Shalem, the gangster.

- [Segev] Last night, I saw this guy.

I think this morning I saw him.

What? Who's this?

[in English] Sorry, wrong number.

[bones crack]

[in Hebrew] Tali, there was an intruder

in my house. He's dead.

Please hurry.

[theme music playing]

[in Hebrew] Why is he handcuffed?

He got violent, acted like an idiot.

[male officer]

He called us, told us he k*lled someone.

We entered the house,

there was nothing there.

[female officer] No body, nothing.

[male officer]

Maybe he had too much to drink.

If he said he k*lled someone,

he k*lled someone.

This is a crime scene

as far as I'm concerned.

Call for Forensics, set up a perimeter.

Give me the keys to the cuffs.

[male officer] He had a g*n on him.

[in English] Hi.

[handcuffs unlocking]

- [in Hebrew] Let me see you.

- I'm fine.

Did you have to get into it with them?

They don't believe me.

They're just beat cops.

We're getting some investigators out here.

- Did you get a good look at the guy?

- Yeah.

Don't know him.

I'm going to go inside.

- Okay.

- I'll be back in a second.

Thanks.

[dramatic music playing]

[Boaz] Were there

other break-ins in the neighborhood?

I have no idea.

Have you noticed anything suspicious

or out of the ordinary lately?

Yes.

Um

Yesterday morning, there was a guy

in his car in front of my house.

- Just as Danielle left for the airport.

- The same guy who attacked you last night?

No.

No.

Is there any reason

someone would want to hurt you, Segev?

I'm a tour guide.

Why would someone want to hurt me?

You weren't always a tour guide, huh?

Boaz.

What about Rami Shalem?

You have no connection to him?

I don't know him. I don't have anything

to do with those people.

What about your wife?

Why would my wife know him?

All right, I think we have everything

we need, Shapira.

We'll call you

if we get any new info, Segev.

Wait, wait, wait. That's it?

Until Forensics gets back to us

about the g*n and the crime scene,

there's not much else we can do.

Listen, I have a 12-year-old daughter

and an ex-wife

that lives in the same moshav.

How can I protect them, huh?

We can put a cop

in front of your ex-wife's house.

All right?

- Come on, I'll make you something to eat.

- I'm not hungry, thanks.

All right.

Regardless, you need a shower. Okay?

I keep wanting to call her.

Yeah.

Were you able to trace that number?

The one texting Dani's phone?

Not exactly.

Whoever texted her did it

from a burner phone.

The kind people buy in stores

in the south side of town, you know?

A burner? Why would someone text her

from a burner phone?

I have no idea.

You think she was having an affair?

No

I don't know. I don't know.

We loved each other.

We were happy.

People are complicated.

[engine starting]

Go figure.

Dad.

Segev.

Shira called.

Are you okay?

Yeah. I'm dying for some coffee.

Go take a shower.

I'll make you some. I'll take this.

Thanks.

[door locks]

[ominous music playing]

[pensive music playing]

- [Segev in English] Hey.

- Hi.

What? It hurts?

Yeah.

Give it to me.

Your back, your feet, your legs

how much pain?

Is it worth it?

I don't know.

When you love something so much,

you just

go for it.

Does that sound crazy?

No.

- This cold?

- Yes.

- And if I put it there or here

- No, don't! [laughing]

I love you.

I love you.

[in Hebrew] I checked all the morgues.

No unidentified body turned up

in the last 24 hours.

I don't know what to tell you.

Listen, I know he's your cousin,

and I'm sure he's a good guy,

but where's the blood?

Where did all of this carnage occur?

All I have is a few broken ceramic pots.

That's it. No DNA.

No fingerprints.

Someone could've wiped the crime scene.

Listen

I ran a background check on your cousin,

and it brought up all kinds of questions.

What questions?

Like why was he kicked out of Mexico?

What was he doing there four years?

He was also pounding whiskey last night.

We're going to look into everything,

but, come on,

how much would you put

into an investigation like this?

Boaz, he's not crazy.

[Tali on video] Okay, Rami,

let's start over from the beginning

of your story.

Go ahead.

[Rami] I told you already.

I ate a cheese toast,

I took my kids to school.

Then I sat with a few friends

for coffees at Pasha.

When I got up to leave, the car was gone.

Some f*ck took it!

Took my gym bag, backpack

and the kids' iPad.

[Tali] And then what?

[Rami] I called a cab to take me home.

Why am I being interrogated?

Aren't you the police?

Investigate, for f*ck's sake!

And find my goddamned car!

[Syd in English] I know you're not hungry,

but you need to eat something.

Still haven't heard from her parents?

About their flight?

No.

What am I supposed to tell the rabbi?

Abba, he's not going to start

without her parents.

They'll be here, don't worry.

[in Hebrew] Okay. Okay.

[in English] Here.

This is from her locker at Batsheva.

Avram, are you eating with us?

[Avram] No, thank you. Thank you.

I have a few more calls to make

before I head out. Thank you.

[ominous music playing]

Can you sit for a sec?

"Why are you ignoring me?"

"I have to see you."

Do you know who sent them?

Whoever it was called her many times

the day she died.

I'm sorry, Segev, I don't know.

[cell phone ringing]

Hello.

[Martin] Segev.

Martin.

Are you at the airport?

No, no.

No, that's why I'm calling.

We were packed and ready to go,

and Marcia fainted.

Turns out she's got pneumonia.

Probably the stress of all this.

She's at Mount Sinai.

That's terrible news.

We're devastated.

You know that Dani has to be buried

within the next 24 hours, right?

Can't imagine

Dani being buried without us,

but the doctors are

concerned about Marcia,

and I don't feel I can leave her.

Of course. Um

Take care of her.

Let me know how she's doing.

I don't know what to say.

I'm sorry.

I know.

I don't know what to say either.

When Marcia feels better,

we'll probably do a small memorial

in New York

with her family and friends from here.

- We'd love for you to be there.

- Of course.

Say a blessing for us, Segev.

[cell phone beeps]

[ominous music playing]

[g*n c*ck]

[g*n clicks]

[g*n c*ck]

[dramatic music playing]

[rooster crowing]

[pensive music playing]

[man in Hebrew] Is this your wife?

Yes.

That's her.

[rabbi praying in Hebrew]

[people murmuring and crying]

[in English] "We were an unexpected pair.

But I knew I knew from the moment

I met Danielle,

she would change my life.

Her smile.

Her joy teaching Ella how to dance.

Her complete inability

to make a decent cup of coffee."

[people chuckling]

"I loved it all.

[sobbing] She made me a better person.

She was everything.

She"

"She was everything to me.

I never saw my life without Danielle.

And now that's all there is.

I love you, Dani."

[indistinct chatter]

[in Hebrew] I'm so sorry, Segev.

- I'll bring Ella to the Shiva.

- Thank you.

[chattering continues]

[suspenseful music playing]

[engine starting]

[in Hebrew]

Daddy, where's your wedding album?

- It's in the cupboard in the kitchen.

- No, it's not there.

I looked there.

Check again. It has to be there.

I made you a plate with all of your fav

No, thanks, Mom.

I don't want anything, really.

- A bit.

- I'm not hungry.

I'll just leave it here

in case you change your mind.

I don't understand the Wexlers.

I'd have to be dead

to miss my child's funeral.

I don't understand them either.

Mom, you need

to take out the bread and the rolls.

- Okay.

- Great.

I'm trying to keep her in the kitchen.

- Okay.

- You okay?

- Just great.

- Great, huh?

Here, this'll help.

I've got to take the bourekas out.

Thanks.

Forensics tested the GL*CK you took

off the guy for fingerprints and DNA.

for fingerprints and DNA.

- And

- And?

nothing but your fingerprints.

No surprise, he was wearing gloves.

I'm starting to doubt Rami drove the car.

sh*t. None of this makes any sense.

[Ella] Dad, I checked again,

I can't find it anywhere.

Hold on.

Boaz,

I've got an idea.

Talk to Rami's wife.

Find out if his kid's iPad has GPS.

[in English] Syd.

We need to talk.

What is it? What's wrong?

Who was the guy at the funeral

with the sunglasses and the jacket?

I saw you looking at him.

It's obvious you know each other.

I don't know him. But you do.

His name is Assaf.

Assaf what?

I don't remember, I'm sorry.

Don't lie to me.

Who was he?

He's a businessman.

Got a thing for dancers.

There's a lot of guys like that.

He hit on the girls

and practically lived at Hashoftim.

What do you mean, Hashoftim?

This bar we used to hang out at.

He knew Danielle?

Yeah.

How well?

They dated a little.

Before she met you. It wasn't a big deal.

Well, not to her, anyway.

But to him?

Honestly, after she stopped dating him,

he became a little obsessed.

Why didn't she tell me?

Probably thought you'd k*ll him

if you knew.

Please don't hate me.

You two are my best friends here.

I cannot stand to think

that I f*cked this up.

I don't hate you.

[pop music playing over speakers]

Didn't expect to see you here tonight.

Want a drink?

He's asking about you.

Who's asking what?

Segev saw you there today.

Why did you come?

It was stupid.

I have the right to grieve, don't I?

I loved her too, you know.

The tour guide can go f*ck himself.

I wouldn't mess with him, Assaf.

[Boaz in Hebrew] We pinged the kid's iPad,

found the car at this garage on Allenby.

[Gal] This is all the CCTV footage we got.

Gal, stop.

There's the car.

Get it on the roof cam at the same time.

[in English] f*ck.

- [in Hebrew] What, do you know them?

- No.

But they sure as sh*t ain't Rami Shalem.

[pop music playing over speakers]

[in Hebrew] You're Assaf?

Yeah.

What were you doing in front of my house?

Do you mind?

What did you want to do?

Talk to her? k*ll her? What?

Look, I can imagine

you must be going through hell,

but as I told you,

I was waiting for someone.

- Now, if you don't mind

- You were stalking her.

Do me a favor, will you?

[g*n c*ck]

Did you sleep with her?

- You need to get some help, brother.

- Did you f*ck my wife?

Yes.

I did.

I dated her a long time ago.

But she married you.

Okay?

You won.

Now, if you don't mind

[dramatic music playing]

Listen,

given the situation,

it sounds like you've got bigger issues

than who your wife was f*cking.

Maya?

[glass breaking]

[ominous music playing]

[in Hebrew] What are you doing?

Have you lost it?

Wh What's going on here?

She wrote that she's "sorry."

That she didn't mean to "hurt you."

You know, after the last time,

I decided to ignore the voices in my head

that said not to trust you,

to check up on you,

to search through your phone,

go through your clothes.

But that was stupid of me!

- What are you doing? What are you doing?

- What I should have done a long time ago.

Searching, looking for evidence.

For when I divorce you!

Stop this, please.

You're a cheating, lying,

son of a b*tch, as*h*le!

Please, I won't

I won't lie to you, all right?

I have no intention of lying to you.

Truly.

We had a fling, yes.

Ages ago, back when things

between us weren't

Weren't great.

But it's over, I swear it's over.

And it was over years ago.

Really? So why did she write you now,

of all times?

I don't know. Maybe she still

Still loved me.

Maybe she wanted

to get back together or

I really don't know.

I didn't tell you

because I didn't want to hurt you.

It's really over.

I swear to you, Maya. It's over.

She's dead. She's dead. Dead!

She was that American,

the dancer that died in that car accident.

So you have nothing to worry about.

[Maya sighs]

[Tali in Hebrew] From the security cameras

at Ben Gurion. There.

- [Segev] That's the driver?

- [Tali] Yes.

Tomas Polgar. That tell you anything?

Here's the second suspect.

- Boton Gunsberg?

- No.

They're both Hungarian nationals.

- Where did they fly?

- London.

Heathrow.

You said they're both from Hungary.

They took the first flight out of Israel.

I don't understand.

They came to Tel Aviv for two days,

then stole a car and k*lled Danielle?

That doesn't make sense.

I don't know. I don't know, Segev.

It is possible they were here to party and

things got out of control. I have no clue.

Fine.

- Bye.

- Segev?

We'll find out what happened, okay?

We're going to find them.

That's our first priority.

Move left, Moshe.

Your left.

[grunts]

Keep going with your hands.

- How much longer?

- Go on.

I feel like a large chicken. Or a duck.

This doesn't hit the driveway.

Tell me, Segev,

if the drivers

who k*lled Dani are in London,

why are we building a fortress

with electronics and sensors here?

For security.

- I think we need to adjust it some more.

- Now it doesn't hit the entrance.

Why are you moving it?

Why do you keep adjusting it?

- We need to light up the driveway.

- Now we need to start over!

Enough, Moshe!

Enough!

What is wrong with you?

I don't understand.

Why did you even stop for coffee?

I don't know.

- We had time.

- She had a flight to catch!

Segev

it was an accident.

You don't know that.

I don't know that and he, for sure,

doesn't know it!

Now I'm here and she isn't!

All because of a f*cking cup of coffee!

I'm sorry.

[Tali in English] Okay.

Yes, just please have him

reach out to me directly.

Thank you.

- [in Hebrew] What's this?

- Stuffed peppers.

Tami thought you'd need a little protein

because of the pregnancy.

Pass on my thanks.

How's it going?

Nothing new.

After getting to London,

the drivers disappeared.

I tried to get ahold of the guy from

Interpol again, but he's still not back.

Tali, I'm taking you

off the hit and run investigation.

- What are you saying?

- I know it's family, but

that's exactly why.

You know, conflict of interest and so on.

Dror, I'm capable of being objective.

If this case goes to trial,

any link to you will compromise it.

You know that. You want to hurt the case?

Seems to me you don't. Drop it. Let it go.

The drivers' pictures have been

posted all over the media.

It's in Interpol's hands now, okay?

Hey, heat this a bit in the microwave,

okay? It's better warmed up.

[reporter 1]

Police today announced they'd identified

the two drivers in the hit and run death

of dancer Danielle Azulai,

as Tomas Polgar and Boton Gunsberg.

The two were caught on security video

at Ben Gurion Airport

before flying to London.

The police suspect

the two Hungarian nationals

of hitting the American woman in their SUV

and fleeing the scene.

Azulai was critically injured, dying from

her wounds on the way to the hospital.

[reporter 2] In other news

[ominous music playing]

[engine starting]

- [man speaking indistinctly]

- [suspenseful music playing]

[tires screeching]

Assaf?

Assaf?

[gate opens]

- [screams] f*ck! Oh, my God.

- What are you doing?

- Why do you have a g*n in my face?

- Why'd you come around the back?

- You wouldn't open the door.

- Sorry. I'm sorry.

- Oh, my God.

- I'm sorry.

I'm sorry. Have a seat. Come.

Syd, what are you doing here?

Okay.

I saw the news tonight.

I saw the pictures of the drivers.

The Hungarians? Okay.

I saw them.

I mean, I've seen them before.

A couple nights

before Danielle was k*lled.

I hadn't even thought about it

until I saw their faces on the news.

- Yeah, come on, one more drink.

- No. No.

No, please let me toast you.

It's good luck before the audition.

[pop music playing over speakers]

What?

Assholes. Ignore them.

Thank you for the drink. I better go.

Really?

- I'm gonna hang here for a bit.

- Okay.

I'm gonna head out the back way.

Can't deal with assholes tonight.

- Love you.

- All right, bye.

We would come here sometimes

after rehearsals.

The owner's nice,

but the regulars can get a little rowdy.

Do you recognize anyone from that night?

Not really.

Just Avi. Hey, Avi!

[Avi] Hey, what's up?

- One drink.

- Avi, ever seen these guys?

No.

Uh, they were here last week

when I was toasting Dani.

- And you gave us a couple extra shots.

- Maybe.

I think maybe one of those guys got

into a shoving match with Uri.

Who's Uri?

He's the local provider.

- [Syd] Drug dealer.

- [Avi] The bouncer had to kick him out.

Stay here.

- Hey. Hey. Hey, hello!

- What are you doing?

Hey! Hey, what are you doing?

[car horns honking]

[tires screeching]

[dramatic music playing]

[in Hebrew] Come here, as*h*le.

f*ck you. What the f*ck do you want?

Tell me, last week you got

into a fight with two guys at that bar.

- Who were they?

- You a cop?

[shouting]

I don't know what you're talking about!

- Who were they?

- I don't remember.

Tonight was my first time in that place,

I swear.

What the f*ck?

You're going to k*ll me. You're crazy.

You're going to k*ll me!

Okay! Okay, okay.

Okay, stop. Okay.

I sold those guys a little cocaine.

They tried to short me, there was

a little shoving. That's it!

- I'll ask again, who were they?

- I don't know!

I don't ask.

Just two as*h*le Americans.

[ominous music playing]

How do you know they were Americans?

They were f*cking Americans.

I know Americans.

Believe me.

[in Hebrew] Americans?

Tali, these guys

were professionals. Hitmen.

They followed her.

Then waited for their moment.

But why would someone want to k*ll

Danielle? There's no logic to it, Segev.

Maybe it wasn't about her.

What are you trying to tell me?

You know what I was.

What I used to do.

So, what do you say?

Is this something you can do?

Shouldn't be a big deal.

I have a few connections

at Homeland Security.

We can cross-check the pictures of these

guys with all the U.S. passports, but

- it'll take some time.

- Of course. Do what you have to.

- I'll call you when I've got something.

- Thanks.

[in Hebrew] Tali?

- What's up?

- Omer!

Whoa, are you?

Yeah.

Six months.

Wow. Incredible.

- Right?

- Okay, where are you headed?

The station.

It's sort of on my way.

I'll walk with you.

- Everything good?

- Mm-hm.

What? Why so quiet?

You know I'm still trying to process

that you're pregnant.

There's no way it's?

Yours?

No. No, it's not yours.

Truth is, it's not anyone's.

Sorry, it's someone's

but not anyone I know.

It was a sperm donor.

Just after we broke up.

Big decision.

Yeah.

Turns out I was ready,

and I was tired of trying to find

someone else who was ready too.

Well, anyway, I'm

happy for you.

Thanks.

I am happy for me too.

What were you doing over there anyway?

I no longer work

for the police department.

Ah.

I'm at a private company

that deals with cyber security.

We have a client in the building.

That's great. I bet it pays a lot better.

It does.

- I even bought an espresso machine.

- Oh!

It steams the milk and everything.

And what about you?

My friend Karen works there

and is helping me with something.

Cool. Well, I am that way.

Okay, well, good luck with all of

It was good to see you.

You can get back to eating now.

- Dad?

- Hmm?

When can I come back and stay with you?

Soon, Elush. I just have

to take care of a few things. Okay?

- Okay.

- One sec.

[cell phone ringing]

Tali.

Hey, Tali.

Uri was right. They're Americans.

Their real names are Mark Posner

and David Chernik.

They got to London, switched passports

and flew to New York.

NYPD is searching for them now.

They have their addresses.

Okay.

Do they have a criminal history?

Mostly petty crimes.

A few grand theft autos and a burglary.

- Great, thanks.

- Bye.

Honey, listen.

Go to your dance class. I'll be

waiting here when you come out, okay?

Okay.

- Bye, Dad.

- Bye, honey.

NEW YORK CITY

[techno music playing over speakers]

[Ron in English] This is a good fake, man.

[man] It's not a fake ID, man.

It's a real ID.

Luckily for you, I have a new ID for sale.

You can buy one from me at half the price.

[cell phone ringing]

[in Hebrew] Segev, my brother.

How are you? Are you holding up?

Listen, I need a favor from you.

Bro, I'm so sorry

I wasn't able to be there.

- The flights are so expensive and the

- Her death wasn't an accident.

She was k*lled.

Professionals. Do you get what I'm saying?

It wasn't about her.

The night after she died, someone broke

into my home, tried to k*ll me.

Who would want to k*ll you?

Bro, it was Isaac.

[in English] Isaac is in prison, man.

[in Hebrew] Listen, the two drivers,

they're American

and they flew back to New York.

You're telling me that now,

after all this time,

he's coming to settle the score?

He's crazy. We both know that.

He still blames me for everything.

sh*t. Let me see what I can find out.

Great.

Okay, brother, thank you. Bye.

[in English] Buddy!

- Come in. Guys are all here, bro.

- Tony! What's up, man?

Oh, f*ck, what's wrong with you?

You look like sh*t.

P90X. I feel like I'm 25 again though.

- Feel them.

- Man, just take it away.

- Hey, guys, look who's here.

- Hey, yo.

- Hey, Ron.

- What's up?

- How you doing?

- What's going on?

So what you got?

sh*t, you haven't done

a drop like this in ages.

- Yeah.

- f*cking love it.

- Who's winning here?

- Thanks.

- Come here. Have a hit.

- Thank you, thank you.

You know what? My kid's in the car.

Yeah? Weed's the only way

I can deal with my kids.

- Maybe next time.

- Can I Venmo you the payment?

- Sure, man. No problem.

- Excellent.

Excellent. Thank you.

- Have a beer. You want a beer?

- Nah.

Phil, are you still working in Sing Sing?

Yeah. What's up?

[in Hebrew]

What's up? What are you doing here?

They got them. Posner and Chernik.

Taken into New York police custody

a couple hours ago.

What? Are they talking?

What have they said?

No, nothing yet.

They'll need to be extradited to Israel.

We'll question them

once they're back here.

Sounds like it could take some time.

Yes, it could take a few weeks.

Man, it's dark as hell

out here in the country.

[ominous music playing]

[detonator beeping]

Run!

[coughs] Tali, are you okay?

They booby-trapped the door.

Conventional expl*sives.

You were damn lucky you caught it in time.

- Have Forensics found anything?

- No. It's early though.

They won't find anything.

It was a professional job.

[cell phone ringing]

Yeah, brother, what's up?

[Ron] You're right. Isaac was

released from Sing Sing nine months ago.

I'll be on the first flight tomorrow. Bye.

Segev.

- First flight where?

- Tali

- Where are you going?

- Get checked out, please.

I'm fine, the baby's fine.

Can you please tell me what's going on?

- Where are you going?

- New York.

What's in New York?

The man who did all of this

is in New York.

His name is Katkov. Isaac Katkov.

He was with me in Mexico after the army.

He ended up in prison.

He blamed me for it.

I can't just sit here

and wait for him to get me.

What about Ella?

Ella will be all right,

but only after I take care of him.

Will you watch her for me?

Of course.

But are you sure this is a good idea?

No.

But what choice do I have?

Tali, come over here, I need you.
