Yayoi: Ritsuka!

Yayoi: Ritsuka? Hey, dumbass!

Yayoi: Hey, are you listening?

Yayoi: Ritsuka, food's ready!

Ritsu: What?

Yayoi: Don't "what" me...

Ritsu: Food?

Yayoi: What the hell is all this?

Ritsu: What the hell is that you're wearing?

Ritsu: I'm gonna tell Kaji-san.

Yayoi: Huh?! Do you want food or not?!

Ritsu: I'll be right down.

Guy: Hey, look.

Guy : Hm?

Guy : Oh, the amateur model chick?

Guy: Yeah, her. She's our college's pageant queen.

Guy : I bet she's hard to approach.

Guy: I'd say she's more the pretty type than the cute type.

Guy : Yeah, I get that.

Guy: Oh, what's this?

Guy : She's messing with her hair now.

Yayoi: Akihiko!

Guy: Huh?

Guy: So she can be cute.

Guy: Well, look at her.

Guy: Can't judge a book by its cover, huh?

Guy: Huh? You listening, Haruki?

Guy: What's up?

Guy: Dude, your face...

Yayoi: Say, Akihiko...

Yayoi: Are you guys playing another gig or something?

Aki: Hm? Why?

Yayoi: Ritsuka was working really hard on something.

Aki: Uenoyama was?

Yayoi: Yeah.

Yayoi: He wouldn't even eat. He just kept fiddling with his guitar.

Yayoi: I don't know what he was up to, but he was seriously into it.

Aki: Huh...

Yayoi: It's like he went back to how he used to be.

Yayoi: My point is, if you're actually doing a gig, send me an invite.

Aki: Sure.

Itaya: Uenoyama.

Ueki: He's dead.

Itaya: Uenoyama! Your favorite part of the day is here! Lunchtime!

Kasa: I'll wake him up.

Kasa: Uenoyama-kun!

Kasa: It's lunchtime!

Ita: I wonder if Kasai-san likes Uenoyama, after all.

Kasa: Uenoyama-kun.

Ueki: Huh?

Ita: What?

Mafu: Um...

Mafu: Is Uenoyama-kun here?

Ita: I think Kasai-san's trying to snatch him up as we speak.

Kasa: Anyone home?

Mafu: Uenoyama-kun!

Kasa: Huh?!

Ita: Oh, he's awake.

Ita: Guess that means he's gonna play guitar today.

Ueki: Let's ask someone from Class to play with us.

Ita: Uenoyama, you playing guitar today?

Ritsu: Yeah.

Ita: What about tomorrow?

Ritsu: I'll play basketball...

Waka: Looks like Sato-kun stole Uenoyama-kun from you...

Waka: Kasai-chan, your face!

Ritsu: Mafuyu, you got some time this weekend?

Mafu: I have work in the evenings.

Ritsu: Wanna go look at some effect pedals soon?

Mafu: Effect pedals?

Ritsu: It depends on what kind you get,

Ritsu: but most of them are little machines around this size.

Ritsu: Basically, it adds sound effects to your guitar.

Ritsu: You can make it sound distorted, like "bwam,"

Ritsu: or make it echo, like "bwam, bwam."

Ritsu: Then you connect it to the amp so you can actually hear it.

Ritsu: You know what an amp is now, right?

Mafu: The speaker-looking things that are all over the studio.

Ritsu: Yeah, those.

Ritsu: But the thing with effect pedals is that there are so many different kinds.

Mafu: 'Kay.

Ritsu: That also means that the price range is pretty huge.

Ritsu: You get me?

Mafu: That sounds difficult.

Ritsu: I'm sure it does.

Ritsu: You got money?

Mafu: Not much.

Ritsu: I figured.

Ritsu: I'll let you borrow mine for a while so you can try it out.

Ritsu: I mean...

Ritsu: If you're going to join the band, I need to whip you into shape.

Ritsu: I won't go easy on you anymore.

Mafu: Say, Uenoyama-kun...

Ritsu: Hm?

Ritsu: What? Out with it, c'mon.

Ritsu: Okay, fine. Just tell me when you feel like it.

Mafu: Uenoyama-kun.

Mafu: You've been working on something lately... right?

Ritsu: Huh?

Ritsu: Oh! Yeah, I have.

Ritsu: I'm writing a song for you, actually.

Mafu: A song?!

Ritsu: That song in your head.

Ritsu: I figured I might be able to turn it into an actual song.

Mafu: You remember it?

Ritsu: Huh? Of course I do. I've heard it twice now.

Ritsu: Right?

Mafu: That's so cool!

Ritsu: I've just been filling in the missing parts myself...

Mafu: I wanna hear it!

Mafu: Kaji-san, Haruki-san.

Mafu: I look forward to working with you further.

Aki: Sure, glad to have ya.

Haruki: I'm glad everything worked out.

Haruki: You're just going to be playing guitar, right?

Ritsu: No, he's going to be on guitar and vocals.

Haruki: Huh? You can sing, Mafuyu?

Haruki: All right, then...

Haruki: Let's celebrate Mafuyu joining the band.

Haruki: Cheers!

Ritsu: Cheers?

Aki: Cheers.

Both: Yeah.

Both: Yeah.

Haruki: But, man, Mafuyu...

Haruki: You always seem out of it, so I wondered if you could actually sing...

Haruki: But you've really got some pipes on you. You startled me.

Aki: For real.

Haruki: It's not like you've actually been a vocalist before, right?

Ritsu: Nope.

Ritsu: In fact, I'm still not sure if he understands the first thing about bands yet.

Mafu: I at least understand the first thing... Sort of.

Aki: "Sort of"?

Ritsu: "Sort of"?

Haruki: But you seem like you've got hidden potential,

Haruki: so with a little practice, I bet you could k*ll it.

Haruki: What kind of music do you usually listen to?

Mafu: What do you listen to, Uenoyama-kun?

Ritsu: Huh?! You're asking me?

Ritsu: Like... UK rock?

Mafu: UK?

Ritsu: Rock music from England. I listen to Japanese music, too.

Haru: Uenoyama's playlist throws some really sophisticated songs sometimes.

aki: Influenced by your dad's preferences, huh?

Ritsu: Yeah, something like that.

Haru: And as for me...

Aki: You've got a lot of poppy and cutesy music.

Haru: Cute—

Haru: Well... out of us three, I probably do listen to the most Japanese rock...

Haru: I do like pop, too.

Ritsu: Kaji-san's got the broadest taste out of all of us.

Ritsu: He'd go to a metal festival one day and a classical concert the next.

Aki: Well, I am also a music major.

Mafu: A music major?

Ritsu: He plays the violin. Isn't that awesome?

Aki: Why are you bragging for me?

Ritsu: He's a total Akihiko fanboy.

Mafu: So you all have different music tastes.

Haru: But I think we get along so well because our tastes are so different.

Aki: When it comes to our musical direction...

Ritsu: Whatever. I'm gonna do what I want.

Aki: ...is our basic attitude.

Aki: We didn't go in thinking we had to understand each other.

Haru: In fact, when I've played in bands where we all had the same interests,

Haru: we all ended up arguing, and it never worked out.

Haru: We clash because we like the same things.

Aki: I totally get that.

Aki: It always ends in bloodshed.

Ritsu: Uh, no one usually bleeds...

Haru: Welcome...

Haru: Take-chan!

Take: Hey.

Take: That hits the spot!

Haru: Exhausted lately?

Take: Hell yeah, I am.

Take: I never knew planning concerts on my own would be this rough.

Take: I never wanna do this again.

Haru: Didn't you say that before?

Take: How are things with you? How's the band?

Haru: We actually just got a vocalist.

Haru: And get this: he's a high school kid.

Take: Huh...

Haru: Having a vocalist is refreshing,

Haru: and Uenoyama is super pumped, so things are going well.

Take: Hey, wanna perform at the concert I'm organizing, then?

Haru: Huh?

Ritsu: Mafuyu, where the heck are you?

Mafu: The ticket gate.

Mafu: Where are you?

Ritsu: I told you. By the central ticket gate.

Ritsu: There you are!

Ritsu: My bad... I should've picked a more precise spot.

Ritsu: I'll be specific next time.

Ritsu: You did... bring your guitar, I see. Good.

Ritsu: Okay, let's go.

Ritsu: There are tons of places in Shibuya that sell instruments,

Ritsu: but if we're going to look at effect pedals, we should go here first.

Mafu: Are these all effect pedals?

Ritsu: Yup.

Mafu: Even that one?

Ritsu: Yeah.

Mafu: That, too?

Ritsu: Yeah.

Mafu: What's the best kind of effect pedal?

Ritsu: Well, for your first one, you should probably get a distortion pedal.

Mafu: Distortion?

Ritsu: Since you just started playing and

Ritsu: probably don't know what kind of sound you want,

Ritsu: getting a multi-effect pedal right now would just hurt your wallet.

Ritsu: I think this is a pretty good choice.

Mafu: It's cute.

Ritsu: I guess it is, kinda.

Ritsu: Wanna give it a try?

Mafu: Huh? We can try it?

Ritsu: If we don't try it out, we won't know what it sounds like.

Ritsu: Pardon me.

Mafu: I guess they're all in bands.

Ritsu: Go ahead and play it a little.

Mafu: 'Kay.

Ritsu: That's how your guitar sounds without any effects.

Ritsu: And then...

Ritsu: That's what overdrive sounds like.

Mafu: Wow...

Ritsu: Is that the one you want?

Mafu: Yeah.

Sign: Pre-Tax

Ritsu: I guess new ones do cost about that much...

Ritsu: Let's go.

Mafu: Uenoyama-kun, the station's this way.

Ritsu: We're going this way.

Ritsu: Mafuyu?

Ritsu: Don't worry. I come here all the time.

Sign: Music & Repair Shop

Mafu: A music store?

Ritsu: Yeah, for used stuff.

Mafu: You can get secondhand instruments?

Ritsu: If you try something out and it sounds fine, who cares?

Ritsu: They have a decent selection here.

Ritsu: That stuff is new, though.

Guy: Welcome. Anything you're looking for?

Ritsu: Hey. Do you have a blue overdrive pedal?

Guy: Ah... Give me a sec.

Mafu: That's it!

Ritsu: How much is it?

Guy: , yen plus tax.

Ritsu: , yen...

Ritsu: You got enough?

Mafu: Um...

Mafu: Do you do layaway plans?

Mafu: I'll work some more and come back.

Guy: Could you write down your name and contact info here, then?

Mafu: Okay.

Guy: Friend of yours?

Ritsu: Uh... yes. We're in a band together.

Ritsu: What?

Ritsu: I'm glad they had the one you wanted.

Mafu: Yeah.

Mafu: I've never been anywhere like that.

Mafu: Thanks for taking me.

Ritsu: S-Sure...

Kasa: That was so fun. How about a little break?

Waka: Sure.

Waka: It's Uenoyama-kun and Sato-kun.

Kasa: Why are they always together?

Waka: Huh?

Kasa: They're all over each other, day after day...

Kasa: Why are they hanging out outside of school, too?

Kasa: Why? Are they dating or something?

Waka: Um...

Kasa: Huh?

Waka: Oh, uh...

Kasa: What? Do you know something?

Waka: Well, I... um...

Waka: I went to the same middle school as Sato-kun.

Waka: And, well, uh...

Waka: There were certain rumors about him...
