- I'm Speedy Sneaker.

I've got the speed to succeed.

- [Announcer] Speedy Sneaker.

[cheetah roaring]

- Wow, that's my new favorite show of all time.

Speedy Sneaker is so cool.

- Yeah, if we had Speedy Sneakers,

we could be as fast as him.

- [Both] I've got the speed to succeed.

- That wasn't actually a show, kids,

that was a commercial.

- A commercial?

- What does that even mean?

- A commercial is an advertisement.

Ads try to persuade you to do something

that often costs money,

in this case, it's buy sneakers.

- Speedy Sneaker is just selling sneakers?

- Speedy wouldn't do that to us.

- Hmm, I know, why don't we go to the Speedy Sneaker store

in Sign Square and see for ourselves?

- Good idea, Mr. Light.

- Dad, you really do make learning fun.

[bright music]

- Look at all the pretty colors!

- And flashing lights!

- All of these signs are ads,

they use lights and colors to get your attention,

that makes you excited about the things they're selling.

- It's working.

- I am a billboard for a new movie you can see.

It's my job to make the movie look cool.

- I'm a statue of food you can eat.

I'm created to look delicious.

- I'm a sign for toys,

I'm here to make the toys look fun to play with.

- You're toying with my emotions.

- All of these different things are advertisements?

- Yes, they are.

- I'm not.

- You're not?

- Yes, I am. Wanna buy a soda?

- Wow. Ads are everywhere.

- Speaking of which,

the Speedy Sneaker store is right ahead.

- [Watt] Look, it's Speedy Sneaker on that screen,

he looks awesome.

- Thanks, I do.

Now, meet the star of the show,

the real Speedy Sneaker himself.

- Oh, I got the speed to succeed.

- Speedy Sneaker?

- The one and only.

- Can we have your autograph?

- Sure, but that costs extra.

- [Both] Huh?

- Kids, before you buy something,

you should make sure it's exactly what you want.

- Hmm.

If I wear your sneakers, can I really jump and fly

like in the commercial?

- No away, but they may, I don't know, keep your feet warm.

- I have to admit,

these sneakers are less impressive in real life.

- Yeah, I get that a lot.

- I don't think I want new sneakers after all.

I kind of like the sneakers I have.

- I don't even wear sneakers.

What was I thinking?

- I think we'll pass on the sneakers, Speedy.

- Then take a hike.

Seriously, we got a new line of hiking boots

for sale inside, check 'em out.

- Watch this show.

- Play this game.

- Eat this candy.

- Wow, Dad, there are so many ads,

sometimes it gets overwhelming.

- And sometimes things are different

in real life than what they say.

- That's why it's important to always do your research

before buying anything the ads are selling.

- That's what I call truth in advertising.
