CARL: The Potato Collection

[♪] [School bell ringing]

FORREST: School Spirit Day. The best day of the whole

FORREST: school year! The day we show our school spirit in

FORREST: the most fun, creative way we can think up.

FORREST: There's no way we can top what the other students

FORREST: did last year.

FORREST: That butter sculpture of the school with little

FORREST: lights inside was pretty cool...

[♪]

CARL: Sounds like a challenge. I'm heading home to come up

CARL: with an idea that'll beat butter.

[Tap water running] [scrubbing]

CARL: School Spirit Day is NEXT week and I need to come

CARL: up with the best idea ever, because I have the most

CARL: school spirit. But I don't have an idea yet.

CARL'S MAMA: You DO have a lot of school spirit! But ideas do

CARL'S MAMA: take time. Just be patient. Maybe look around

CARL'S MAMA: and see if anything inspires you.

CARL: There isn't time to look around or be patient, Mama!

CARL: All I can see are potatoes. And what am I going

CARL: to do?

[♪]

[sparkle sound]

CARL: This potato looks like Principal Gokey...

[♪ Rimshot ]

CARL: [whispers] Potato that looks like Principal Gokey...

CARL'S MAMA: Let me guess, you have a good school spirit

CARL'S MAMA: idea?

CARL: No! I have the BEST school spirit idea. This

CARL: potato looks like Principal Gokey. If I find

CARL: potato twins of all the people who work at the school,

CARL: I can beat last year's butter sculpture! I'll make a

CARL: butter-besting diorama of a day in life of the school

CARL: I love.

CARL: Mr. Kelly is in charge of Spirit Day. I'm going to

CARL: ask him tomorrow if I can set it up in the

CARL: cafeteria. So I need to wear my lucky frog tie...

[♪]

CARL: [snoring]

MR. KELLY: Carl? Carl?

CARL: Wha...! Where am I? Oh, good morning Mr. Kelly, I was

CARL: up late working on my Spirit Day idea. I wore my

CARL: frog tie to show how serious I am about it.

MR. KELLY: Whoa, nice! Let's hear your idea.

MR. KELLY: Razzle dazzle me!

CARL: This year, I would like to celebrate this school by

CARL: honoring those who help all of us students grow like

CARL: this potato! It looks like Principal Gokey.

CARL: See?

MR. KELLY: Uhhh...you lost me?

CARL: Oh, wait.

CARL: There!

MR. KELLY: Ha! It is Brian! I mean, Principal Gokey.

CARL: That's right, and I can promise a potato twin for

CARL: everyone who works here. So can I set up a

CARL: potato school in the cafeteria?

MR. KELLY: Sorry, Carl. You can't have a spot in the lunch

MR. KELLY: room.

MR. KELLY: This idea deserves a place of honor that everyone

MR. KELLY: will see! The main hallway display case!

CARL: [gasp]

MR. KELLY: Carl, this display honors one of the greatest

MR. KELLY: achievements of our country. The first landing on

MR. KELLY: the moon. This case is the perfect place

MR. KELLY: for you to display your potato tribute!

CARL: That's good. Everyone walks by here! And when they

CARL: see my spectacular potato display, they'll also

CARL: see a big part of what makes this school so great!

[♪]

MR. KELLY: You're right. The teachers, staff, and

MR. KELLY: administration all help the students be their

MR. KELLY: best selves.

CARL: Thank you. This will be the BEST display EVER!

MR. KELLY: [coughing]

ARUGULA: Hey, this one looks like Mrs. Doe, the School

ARUGULA: counselor.

SHELDON: This one is exactly like Mr. Smith!

FORREST: Do you see it? Isn't it beautiful?

SHELDON: Whoa...What are we looking at?

CARL: Wait one moment.

CARL: Now do you see?

SHELDON: Mr. Pizzoli, the art teacher?! That's amazing!

CARL: Forrest, this is the best potato of the bunch. It

CARL: will be the centerpiece of the potato diorama.

ARUGULA: Good job Forrest! Oh! Tell Carl your Spirit Day

ARUGULA: idea!

FORREST: I'm making a jumpsuit in the school colors, and I'm

FORREST: gonna decorate my helmet with tiny lights. Mr.

FORREST: Poblano will set up a mega ramp on the playground

FORREST: and I'll do a spectacular roller skate jump,

FORREST: grab onto a zip-line, and zip over everyone's head

FORREST: at the Spirit Day ceremony.

SHELDON: Whoa, that's going to be so cool! I can't wait to

SHELDON: see that Forrest!

CARL: It's not a potato-twin level cool idea, though. It's

CARL: just okay.

[♪ dramatic guitar fuzz wah effect ♪]

ARUGULA: Carl! Why would you say that?

FORREST: It's getting kinda late.

FORREST: I should go home.

CARL: Yeah, you've got brainstorming to do. Keep at

CARL: it Forrest, you might think of something else —

CARL: something almost as cool as my display. Thanks for your

CARL: help today!

SHELDON: That wasn't very kind, Carl. I think you hurt

SHELDON: his feelings.

ARUGULA: You should say sorry, Carl.

CARL: What? Fine. Sorry. There, I said it. Sorry, sorry,

CARL: sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. There's seven

CARL: more. Is that enough for you?

CARL: ...and then he said I can have the spot where the

CARL: spaceship was, and that my potatoes were more

CARL: important and then Forrest found a giant potato

CARL: that looks like Mr. Pizzoli! Then I told Forrest

CARL: that his idea wasn't as spectacular as mine, because

CARL: ...it wasn't, and he should keep thinking until he

CARL: came up with a better idea, and then I found a potato

CARL: that sort of looks like the guy who cuts the grass at

CARL: school. You have to squint, though.

CARL'S MAMA: Wait, what did you say?

CARL: I said you have to squint. It'll look better when

CARL: I make it sweaty.

CARL'S MAMA: No, what did you say about Forrest?

CARL: Oh. He wanted to jump over our heads on roller

CARL: skates, wearing a light-up helmet at the Spirit

CARL: Day celebration. Don't worry, I told him it wasn't a

CARL: very good idea.

CARL'S MAMA: Huh? Really? I think that sounds amazing!

CARL'S MAMA: Lights? A roller skate jump? I dunno. Forrest's

CARL'S MAMA: idea sounds pretty fun!

CARL: Arugula and Sheldon thought so, too. They said I

CARL: needed to apologize.

CARL'S MAMA: And? Did you?

CARL: MORE THAN SEVEN TIMES!

CARL'S MAMA: Hmm. But did you mean it?

CARL: I guess not.

CARL'S MAMA: Well, how would you like it if your friends

CARL'S MAMA: treated you the way you treated Forrest?

CARL: Hmmmm.

[♪ Collecting thoughts jam ]

FORREST: Potatoes? Is that what you think of the school?

FORREST: I'm not sure that's what Spirit Day is about.

FORREST: Where's the spectacle? Where's the

FORREST: showmanship?

SHELDON: Potatoes belong on a plate, not in a display case.

ARUGULA: Keep trying, Carl. Maybe you'll think of a better

ARUGULA: idea one day.

[♪]

CARL: I guess...I guess I didn't think about it that

CARL: way. I wouldn't like that at all. I was so excited

CARL: before, but now I feel terrible. Mama, how can I say

CARL: sorry so that Forrest knows I mean it?

CARL'S MAMA: You can start by letting him know you're sorry

CARL'S MAMA: about how you made him feel.

CARL: Okay, I'll draw a sad face.

CARL: There. What else should I do, Mama?

CARL'S MAMA: Let Forrest know you'll be more open to his

CARL'S MAMA: ideas next time he shares them with you.

CARL: Okay. I'll draw me.

CARL'S MAMA: Now, comes the most challenging part: find a

CARL'S MAMA: way to SHOW Forrest you're sorry...Maybe by

CARL'S MAMA: seeing if there's something he needs help with

CARL'S MAMA: for his idea.

CARL: Okay, I'll draw my universal screwdriver. I use

CARL'S MAMA: That's a great idea, Carl.

CARL: Thanks, Mama.

[♪]

CARL: Forrest! Wait up!

FORREST: I have to practice, even if you don't think my

FORREST: trick is as special as your potatoes.

CARL: I should never have said that. I hurt your feelings and

CARL: I'll say things like, ‘I like your roller skate idea.

CARL: It's rad.' That's a roller skate word. 'I want to

FORREST: I don't need your help. I have to practice!

CARL: The crown jewel. The Pizzoli Potato.

CARL: Forrest!

FORREST: Nice potatoes, Carl! Looks great.

CARL: That's not important right now, I have one more

CARL: step to let you know I'm sorry.

FORREST: There's a light out on my helmet. I have to see if

FORREST: But...the lights were the most special part! They

FORREST: were school colors for School Spirit Day!

CARL: Maybe I can help! When I was researching potatoes, I

CARL: came across a science project where a potato was

CARL: used to power a clock. Do you think we could use a

CARL: potato to power Forrest's helmet?

MR. KELLY: Possibly...But it would have to be a pretty big
