CARL: Lemons!
CARL: I can't wait for Sheldon to get here, Mama!
CARL'S MAMA: Whoa!
CARL'S MAMA: [chuckle] I can see that, Carl!
CARL: Yes! Because for today and today only, we will have a
CARL: fresh-squeezed homemade lemonade stand!
CARL: For lemonade lovers everywhere!
CARL'S MAMA: Okay, do you have everything you need?
CARL: I do believe so.
CARL: One large lemonade sign, two gallons of water, one
CARL: cooler with ice cubes, pitcher, grams
CARL: of sugar, lemons, -ounce cups, and one Sheldon!
CARL: I definitely need the one Sheldon. I'm going to ask him
CARL: to make a dance to get us customers!
CARL: '‘Lemonade Stand! Lemonade Stand!'
CARL'S MAMA: And there he is, the one Sheldon!
CARL: Yes!
CARL: I just realized I forgot one thing, Mama! One large
CARL: spoon for stirring. Stirring is essential in
CARL: making homemade fresh- squeezed lemonade.
CARL'S MAMA: Ah! It sure is, honey. I'll run in and get you
CARL'S MAMA: the large spoon.
CARL: Thanks!
CARL: Sheldon! Are you ready for surprise?!
SHELDON: I'm always ready for surprises!
CARL: Then get ready for our Lemonade Stand!
SHELDON: [anxious gasp]
SHELDON: [uncomfortable shiver]
CARL: You ready to dance and chant
CARL: '‘Lemonade Stand! Lemonade Stand?'
SHELDON: Uhhhh...I forgot to do something at home, see you
SHELDON: later, byeee!
CARL: Sheldon?
CARL'S MAMA: Okay, how about two large spoons, one for each
CARL'S MAMA: of you to stir?
CARL: Well, it's not "“each"” anymore. It's now just me,
CARL: Mama! Sheldon left!
CARL'S MAMA: Oh, why did he leave?
CARL: I don't know. Maybe Sheldon needed to get home to
CARL: take out the garbage or do some homework. Or maybe he
CARL: just doesn't like me anymore...
CARL'S MAMA: Oh honey, I am sure that is not the case.
CARL: But he just ran off. This is very confusing.
CARL'S MAMA: So, why don't you just go check on Sheldon, and
CARL'S MAMA: ask why he left?
CARL: I can do that?
CARL'S MAMA: Sure! Just go ask him, honey.
CARL: Sheldon!
CARL: It's me, Carl.
SHELDON: Hi, Carl. Come in.
CARL: I'm here to check on you and ask why you ran off.
SHELDON: I don't know what you mean...
CARL: Well, you left very quickly after seeing my plan
CARL: for having a lemonade stand. I think something is
CARL: wrong.
SHELDON: How do you know? You're not me.
CARL: Here is why I think this. First, you love having
CARL: stands.
CARL: We did a bottle cap stand, a chocolate cookie
CARL: stand, a milkshake stand. And you were out there
CARL: dancing and chanting for each of them.
CARL: Second, you love being outside on a beautiful day,
CARL: and this is a beautiful day!
CARL: And third, you like playing with me. And I am me,
CARL: and want to play with you.
SHELDON: Okay. Yes, you're right, Carl. Something's
SHELDON: wrong. I'm scared of something.
CARL: Well, my dad told me that everyone is scared
CARL: of something. And I know that I am scared of
CARL: things, like that clown mask or the silvery black rock
CARL: at the park, or that scratchy sound those tree
CARL: branches make in my backyard...
CARL: Sheldon, what are you scared of? Why did you have to
CARL: leave?
SHELDON: Because...Because, I am of...
SHELDON: ...lemons.
CARL: Lemons?! The yellow fruit?
SHELDON: [uncomfortable shiver]
SHELDON: Yes.
CARL: Hmm...lemons.
SHELDON: I would like to get over my fear and try to have a
SHELDON: lemonade stand with you, but I am just too scared.
CARL: Well, I don't want my friend to do anything that
CARL: scares him so I will have the lemonade stand on my
CARL: own, Sheldon.
SHELDON: [sad sigh]
CARL'S MAMA: So...how did it go with Sheldon?
CARL: Sheldon wants to have a lemonade stand but he can't,
CARL: because he is scared of lemons!
CARL'S MAMA: Oh, that's too bad, Carl.
CARL: I'm sad because we always have so much fun at our
CARL: stands. Sheldon could be here right now, dancing and
CARL: chanting '‘Lemonade Stand! Stand!'
CARL'S MAMA: [chuckle] Sheldon is good at that!
CARL: I really miss Sheldon being here.
CARL: But to be here, he would have to not be scared of
CARL: lemons anymore.
CARL: I wish I could help Sheldon with his fear of
CARL: lemons.
CARL'S MAMA: Maybe you can.
CARL: How?
CARL'S MAMA: Do you remember when you were scared of toads?
CARL: Of course I remember. I wouldn't help in our garden
CARL: because that very large toad lived there.
CARL'S MAMA: Yes, right.
CARL: But then I did help in the garden and wasn't scared
CARL: of toads anymore!
CARL: How was I not scared of toads anymore?
CARL'S MAMA: I helped you become less fearful, remember?
CARL'S MAMA: We talked through why you were scared of
CARL'S MAMA: toads.
CARL: Right. I was scared because the big toad looked
CARL: like a little creature from outer space to me.
CARL'S MAMA: Mm-hmm.
CARL: And I thought it would stick to me with its long
CARL: tongue!
CARL'S MAMA: So, once I found out what you were scared of, I
CARL'S MAMA: helped you learn more about toads to help you
CARL'S MAMA: become less scared.
CARL: Yes! Like how they are amphibians, and toads only
CARL: catch bugs with their sticky tongue. And they don't
CARL: even ribbit!
CARL'S MAMA: And then, you slowly got closer and closer
CARL'S MAMA: to the toad.
CARL: And I was able to go to the garden and help plant and
CARL: pick vegetables, even with that big toad around.
CARL: But I still won't touch it!
CARL'S MAMA: Well, all in good time, Carl. But the important
CARL'S MAMA: part is the toad no longer stops you from doing
CARL'S MAMA: the things you like to do.
CARL: Yes! Maybe I can do that for Sheldon! Put the lemonade
CARL: on ice, Mama! I'm going to go help Sheldon.
CARL: Sheldon, I want to help you.
SHELDON: How?
CARL: I want to know more about why you are scared of
CARL: lemons.
SHELDON: Well...I was really little. And I walked into my
SHELDON: kitchen...
SHELDON: And saw something yellow on the kitchen table.
SHELDON: You know how I like the color yellow!
SHELDON: Well, this yellow thing looked yummy!
SHELDON: And that's when it squirted right in my eye!
SHELDON: Ahhh! Stingy!
SHELDON: Ahhh!
SHELDON: So that's why.
CARL: Okay, that sounded scary to me. I can understand why
CARL: you would be scared of lemons, but I am here to help
CARL: you learn more about lemons! I have one in my
CARL: pocket.
SHELDON: Ahhh!
CARL: Oh, sorry, Sheldon! Here...
CARL: It's all the way over here. It won't squirt
CARL: at you and you can't taste it from over here.
SHELDON: Okay...
CARL: Two facts about lemons, so you can know more about
CARL: them. Lemons are high in vitamin C which is SO
CARL: good for you! And lemons grow on trees.
SHELDON: Wow, I love fruits that grow on trees!
CARL: I know you do!
SHELDON: I don't want to be afraid. I want to have a
SHELDON: lemonade stand with you!
CARL: Why don't you try to walk toward the lemon very
CARL: slowly, a few inches at a time until you get used to
CARL: it? And if you don't want to, you don't have to.
SHELDON: [deep breath in and out]
CARL: You should smell it... because it smells
CARL: so citrus-y.
CARL: And feel it, because it is so bumpy-smooth!
SHELDON: I do like the smell. I'm not ready to hold it yet,
SHELDON: but I think I can at least be near them.
CARL: You are very brave, Sheldon!
SHELDON: Thank you, Carl. I think I'm ready to try the
SHELDON: Lemonade Stand.
CARL/SHELDON: Lemonade Stand! Lemonade Stand!
LOTTA: Lemonade Stand! I heard the chant and I'm always up
LOTTA: for lemonade!
CARL: Wonderful!
SHELDON: No! I can't do it!
LOTTA: Can't do what, Sheldon?
CARL: If you would just hold on one moment, Lotta. Be right
CARL: back to make your lemonade!
LOTTA: Hmm...
CARL: Sheldon, you're doing great, and have been so brave!
SHELDON: But my biggest fear with lemons is getting the
SHELDON: juice in my eye! So stingy!
CARL: I understand, Sheldon.
SHELDON: And squeezing it, and being around all those flying
SHELDON: juice drops is just... too much for this beaver
SHELDON: to bear.
CARL: Wait!
SHELDON: Why?
CARL: Because I just remembered something else! Did
CARL: you know I used to be scared of riding my
CARL: skateboard?
SHELDON: I did not know that, Carl.
CARL: I was scared, because one time I fell off my skateboard
CARL: and hurt my elbow. So I stopped riding my skateboard
CARL: because I didn't want to fall off and hurt my elbow
CARL: again.
CARL: But, after a little while, I really missed riding.
CARL: So, to help me not be scared of hurting my elbows,
CARL: I wore elbow pads!
SHELDON: Oh yeah! I do see you wearing elbow pads when you
SHELDON: ride your skateboard!
CARL: Yes! That way if I fall, I won't hurt my elbow!
SHELDON: That is a great idea, but...I don't think an elbow
SHELDON: pad would keep lemon juice from squirting in my
SHELDON: eye.
CARL: Hmm... something to protect your eyes...
CARL: I have a collection for this!
CARL: These goggles can protect your eyes from lemon
CARL: sprays!
SHELDON: Thank you, Carl! I am ready!
LOTTA: Cool looking goggles, Sheldon!
SHELDON: Ha! I squeezed a lemon!
LOTTA: Deee-licious lemonade!
SHELDON/CARL: Lemonade Stand! Lemonade Stand!
NICO: Lemonade!!!
NICO: I'll have some!

CARL: I will have a fresh batch lemonade made in...
CARL: ...six minutes and ten seconds!
SHELDON: Lemonade Stand! Lemonade Stand!

CARL'S MAMA: Good morning, pretty parsley! And hello,
CARL'S MAMA: rosemary!
CARL: Whee! [giggling]
CARL: Mama! Come quickly! My caterpillars are gone!
CARL: Did they escape? Did someone take them? Should we
CARL: call the police?
CARL'S MAMA: [chuckle] Okay, okay, before you file a missing
CARL'S MAMA: caterpillar report, I think you might want
CARL'S MAMA: to take a closer look.
CARL: Hey, wait a minute! I see a chrysalis!
CARL: And there's another one! And a third!
CARL: So, now the caterpillars are inside their chrysalises,
CARL: and they're getting ready to become butterflies!
CARL: Way to go, Steven, Dottie, and Mr. Pickles!
CARL'S MAMA: In about a week or two, your caterpillar
CARL'S MAMA: friends will be beautiful black swallowtail
CARL'S MAMA: butterflies!
CARL: I can't wait! Maybe they will follow me around like
CARL: baby ducklings follow their mama after they hatch!
CARL: First I had a caterpillar collection and
CARL: soon I'm going to have my very own butterfly
CARL: collection.
CARL'S MAMA: What are you up to, Carl?
CARL: I'm getting a jar ready for my butterfly collection!
CARL'S MAMA: Ooh! I have an idea! Why don't we go to the
CARL'S MAMA: library today? You can check out a book about
CARL'S MAMA: black swallowtail butterflies and learn a
CARL'S MAMA: little more about what they need.
CARL: That's a terrific idea!
MS. HUFFMAN: Hello, Carl!
CARL: I thought Steven, Dottie, and Mr. Pickles were
CARL: missing, but it turns out they're not missing. They're
CARL: just busy becoming butterflies! It'll take them
CARL: nine to days and I have the perfect spot for them
CARL: on my shelf, right next to my feather collection.
MS. HUFFMAN: I see! So, Carl. How can I help you and your
MS. HUFFMAN: new friends today?
CARL: I would like to find a book about black swallowtail
CARL: butterflies. Please and thank you.
MS. HUFFMAN: I have the perfect book for you, Carl!
MS. HUFFMAN: Follow me.
SHELDON: Hi, Carl!
SHELDON: What are you doing?
CARL: I'm collecting flower nectar!
SHELDON: How's it going?
CARL: Not so good.
SHELDON: When did you start collecting flower nectar?
CARL: It's not for me, Sheldon. It's for Steven,
CARL: Dottie and Mr. Pickles!
SHELDON: The nectar is for your caterpillars?
CARL: Nope! It's for my almost- butterflies! Come take a look!
CARL: Steven. Dottie. And Mr. Pickles. They're busy turning
CARL: into butterflies. I read in my library book that black
CARL: swallowtail butterflies drink flower nectar so I'm
CARL: trying to be prepared.
SHELDON: Wow, Carl! That's so cool!
CARL: Did you know that black swallowtail males have larger
CARL: yellow spots on their wings, and the females have
CARL: brighter blue markings?
CARL: And when Steven, Dottie and Mr. Pickles were still
CARL: young caterpillars, their markings were meant to look
CARL: like bird poop so hungry predators wouldn't eat them
CARL: up!
SHELDON: Seriously? That's so gross! Where are you going to
SHELDON: let them go after they turn into butterflies?
CARL: Why would I let them go? They're for my butterfly
CARL: collection! I'm going to keep them in a jar on my shelf
CARL: next to my feather collection.
SHELDON: Um...Do you think that's a good idea, Carl?
SHELDON: Won't Steven, Dottie, and Mr. Pickles run out of air
SHELDON: if they're stuck inside a jar?
CARL: You should probably go home now, Sheldon. I'm not
CARL: feeling well. I'm going inside.
CARL'S MAMA: Carl? Are you okay?
CARL: I am feeling angry because Sheldon doesn't think
CARL: keeping Steven, Dottie, and Mr. Pickles in a butterfly
CARL: collection is a good idea.
CARL'S MAMA: Ahh, so you're feeling mad, because Sheldon
CARL'S MAMA: told you what he thinks. What do you think,
CARL'S MAMA: Carl?
CARL: I think I would miss them if I let them go.
CARL'S MAMA: Yep, I get that. You've loved watching them
CARL'S MAMA: grow and change. Huh.
CARL'S MAMA: So, what does your new library book say
CARL'S MAMA: about black swallowtail butterflies?
CARL: It says they eat flower nectar, and you can find them
CARL: in gardens, meadows, and other open spaces.
CARL'S MAMA: Here's a question. What do you think it
CARL'S MAMA: would be like to live in a jar when you are
CARL'S MAMA: used to being in open spaces?
CARL: I guess I hadn't thought about that.
CARL'S MAMA: You know Carl, when I have a tough decision
CARL'S MAMA: to make, I talk to myself about the different
CARL'S MAMA: options I have. I think about the good and the
CARL'S MAMA: bad of each option and how what I choose
CARL'S MAMA: might affect others. It helps me to see the
CARL'S MAMA: better choice.
CARL: That's a good idea, Mama.
CARL'S MAMA: You take all the time you need, hun!
CARL: I need to collect my thoughts.
CARL: If I leave the butterflies in the jar... they
CARL: won't be able to eat nectar from flowers, or fly
CARL: wherever they want...
CARL: But if I let them out...
CARL: I might never see them again.
CARL: I still have a few more days to decide what to do.
CARL: Mama! Mama! Hurry!
CARL: My beautiful, breathtaking brilliant, black
CARL: swallowtail butterflies are here at last!
CARL: Look! There's Dottie! Over there is Mr. Pickles! And
CARL: Steven is about to emerge from his chrysalis!
CARL'S MAMA: [big gasp] This is exciting, Carl!
CARL: Mama! Steven is a girl!
CARL'S MAMA: Huh! How can you tell that?
CARL: Look how bright her blue markings are!
CARL'S MAMA: It's nice to see you again Steven, Dottie, and
CARL'S MAMA: Mr. Pickles!
CARL: Hello, butterflies! I love your beautiful wings. I
CARL: wish I could fly around with you.
CARL: Mama, I've been thinking a lot about what it would be
CARL: like to be a butterfly trapped in a jar without fresh
CARL: air and room to fly. And I tried really hard to collect
CARL: nectar so I could feed Steven, Dottie and Mr. Pickles.
CARL: But it turns out, it's not that easy.
CARL: So, I've come to a decision. I'm going to set the
CARL: butterflies free.
CARL'S MAMA: Well, I think that's a very kind thing to
CARL'S MAMA: do, Carl. So, how does that decision make you
CARL'S MAMA: feel?
CARL: I feel happy for the butterflies...but a little
CARL: sad for me.
CARL: Mama? Where do you think they'll go?
CARL'S MAMA: I'm not sure.
CARL'S MAMA: They'll probably go on exciting butterfly
CARL'S MAMA: adventures!
CARL'S MAMA: I know! Why don't we have a Butterfly Release

CARL'S MAMA: Carl, honey, are you ready?
CARL: I think so.
CARL: Thank you for coming to my Butterfly Release Party!
CARL: I really wanted to have a butterfly collection, but
CARL: Steven, Dottie, and Mr. Pickles need food, water,
