♪ Wild Kratts!

Chris: It's morning in North America,

and the sun is rising over the eastern woodlands.

We're here in a mixed forest and meadow habitat.

Martin: It's us, the Kratt Brothers!

I'm Martin. Chris: I'm Chris.

It's early morning and we're looking for one of the busiest

creatures in the creature world.

Martin: You know this animal well,

but now it's getting very endangered,

so it's really important we find it.

We're talking about...

Martin/Chris: The bumblebee!

Martin: When you're looking for bumblebees,

the best thing to do is to look for what they're looking for...

flowers!

Flowers are colorful to attract pollinators like wasps,

honey bees and bumblebees.

Bumblebee! We're getting lucky!

Chris: Bumblebee!

Bumblebees are such important pollinators.

We need them to get many of the fruits,

vegetables and flowers that we love.

Thanks, bumblebee.

Martin: Chris, a green bee!

[chuckles] I think it's a bee.

Chris: I've got one here too.

It's a metallic green sweat bee.

They can spend many hours of the day

collecting food from flower patches,

just like a bumblebee.

Martin: Another one.

Oh, when you get a close look at them,

they have so many cool features.

That long tongue helps them get to the nectar,

even in tube-shaped flowers that they have to crawl into!

How about those helicopter wings,

beating almost as fast as a hummingbird's!

And that bright yellow color.

That's a warning for birds that this bumblebee

packs a defensive sting.

Chris: Imagine, if we could buzz around like a bumblebee.

Martin: Imagine if we had bumblebee powers.

Martin/Chris: What if?

Martin: [gasps] Wonder what's under there?

Chris: Let's flip it over and find out!

Martin: Better yet...

let's miniaturize and crawl under it!

Chris: Gravy!

Martin: Uhm.. who has the Miniaturizer?

Uh, I need better pockets!

Chris: You need an organized backpack like mine!

Everything in its place.

But I don't have the one and only Miniaturizer.

You had the Miniaturizer last.

Martin: Oh, here it is!

Martin/Chris: The Miniaturizer!

Chris: Wait, we're supposed to have lunch with the g*ng today.

Martin: Oh, this'll be quick.

We'll be right back.

Chris: Can't say no to a mini-adventure.

Martin/Chris: Miniaturize!

Martin: h*-h*! Alright...yeah!

Woooooh!

Jimmy Z: Hey bros, cake time!

Where'd they go?...Huh?

Martin/Chris: Whoaa!

Chris: It's like a cave.

Martin: [gasps] A salamander!

Chris: With stripes!

Martin/Chris: A tiger salamander!

Martin/Chris: Uh-oh!

Martin: Whoa! Hurry!

[jumping grunt]

Whoa!...Whoa!

Where's this cricket taking me?!

There's a lot of action under a log!

Chris: Wait up!

We gotta get out of here!

Martin: Whoa! Whoaaaa!

Chris: Oof! Ugh!

How do you tell a cricket to stop?!

Woah! Ugh!

Oh! [buzzing sound] Huh?

There's our getaway!

[jumping grunt]

Chris! C'mon, jump on!

Where'd he go?...Chris?!

Chris: Ahh...

Oh no, my stuff!

[loud stomp]

[gasp]

Martin: Uh-oh, we're taking off!

Chris, where are you?

Chris: Martin...over here!

Ahhhhh!!!

Martin: To the Chris rescue!

Chris: Ahh!

Martin: Grab on, bro!

Chris: Ahh!

Martin: Whew. Chris: Oh h*! Thanks, Martin!

I was almost a salamander snack!

Martin: Do you realize what's happening, bro?

We are...riding a bumblebee!

An endangered bumblebee!

Chris: Yeah!

It's getting harder and harder to see bumblebees,

because there are fewer and fewer of them.

Mostly because of poison sprayed on the flowers they feed from.

Bumblebees could disappear.

We have to help the endangered bumblebees!

But...where am I going to put my stuff?

Martin: Aw, just stuff it in your pockets.

Chris: I can't fit all of this in my pockets.

Martin: Well then, you need better pockets. [laughs]

Aviva: Martin! Chris!

Koki: No bros, but a lot of bees.

Chris: Hey look!

Martin: Over here! Hey, it's us!

Chris: We're too small. They can't hear us.

Martin: I wonder where this bumblebee is taking us?

Aviva: Did you hear that?

Jimmy Z: I only hear buzzing.

[loud buzzing sound] Aaaah... B-b-b-bees!

Koki: Don't worry, Jimmy.

If you don't bother bees,

they won't bother you.

Aviva: Yeah, don't swat, just chill.

[bees buzzing] Bees are nice...and fuzzy.

[bees buzzing]

Aviva: There are so many bees out here.

Koki: Well, there are a lot of flowers in this meadow.

Bumblebees depend on healthy flowers.

Plants need bumblebees too - to create seeds.

If there are no flowers, then no bees.

And if there are no bees, then fewer flowers and plants.

Aviva: Ah ha! Look, the Miniaturizer!

Uh-oh. This must mean

they took off on a mini adventure.

But with who?...And where?!

Zach: Perfect!

Do you think this red flower

works with my outfit?

[short beep]

Ah! Why do I even ask you?

[bumblebees buzzing]

Ahhh!...Freeze.

A big angry bee.

Don't move!

Ah! Take me inside.

Ouch!! Hey, not so rough!

Donita: Zach, are you there?

You borrowed my copy of Villain Weekly

and I want it back!

Zach: Fine. I'll make my own

Zach drone delivery system

and deliver it to you.

Donita: You better send it...

or else.

Zach: But how do I power the drones?

Hmm...

[screams]

[bumblebee buzzing]

Ooh...I've got an idea.

Aviva: Where are the brothers?

Koki: They were supposed to be here to celebrate our lunch

for the first day of summer.

Jimmy even made a cake to celebrate.

Jimmy Z: It's an amazing cake with colorful icing flowers.

Zach: So I will power my Zachdrone delivery

with bumblebees!

The drones hold the package here

and it is powered by the buzzing bees here!

Ugh! But I need a lot!

Get out your vacuum arms,

we're gonna collect some buzzy bees!

[evil laughter]

Chris: We should call the g*ng!

But my arms are too full!

Where am I going to put all my creature stuff?

Martin: Forget about that, Chris.

Remember, we're riding a bumblebee!

Chris: Yeah. Of course, I know that.

Like all insects, the bumblebee has three main body parts.

You've got the head with the eyes, antenna and mouthparts.

The thorax, that's where you're sitting Martin.

Martin: Thorax, a very fuzzy thorax!

Chris: And the abdomen, where I am.

The abdomen's fuzzy too.

Martin: Hmm, I wonder why a bumblebee is so fuzzy?

Chris: I like how the legs just hang while they fly.

What's that?

There's something on her back leg.

Oh, it's a pollen basket,

where a bee collects pollen.

Oh! I can put all my stuff on there, cause it's sticky.

And last but not least, my Creaturepod.

Hey, now I have my hands free!

That's much better.

I can check out the wings.

They are so small for a big body.

They go up and down. It's amazing!

Those wings can fly such a big bee.

They go up and down times a second.

Martin: And those wings bring a bumblebee

in for a landing.

Hey, see all this powdery stuff?

It's sticky!

Chris: Yeah, it's pollen!

Martin: Oh, the bee's collecting pollen and nectar for sugar.

Lots of pollen!

Chris: Hey, look. She's adding some pollen

into the basket on her leg.

Martin: Hey, let's help her collect pollen.

[collecting efforts]

Uh, Chris, I don't think she likes

your stuff being in her basket.

Chris: No, my creature stuff!

No, no, NO!

Martin: Uh, the pollen baskets are for pollen.

You can't blame a bee.

Chris: My Creaturepod!

How're we going to call the g*ng?

Hey, do you want to ask Aviva to make a Bumblebee Power Suit?

But we'll need to get more information.

Koki: Hey bros, where are you?

Martin: Well, we're...

[buzzing sound] Martin/Chris: Whoa!!

Martin: What's with this buzzing?

Chris: The flower is releasing pollen.

Martin/Chris: Buzz pollination!

Chris: By buzzing her wing muscles in a special way,

the bee causes the flower to release more pollen.

Martin: Oh and pollen gets everywhere.

It sticks to the bee's fuzzy body too.

Koki: I can't hear you!

Martin: Ugh! I said...we're-

Whoooa!

Chris: Awww! Now we can't contact them at all!

We have to get our Creaturepods.

Martin: Not now, Chris. Bumblebees are busy bees.

Don't stay on flowers long.

Buzzing wings means... she's gonna go!

C'mon! Don't be left behind!

We're buzzing off!

Chris: [jumping grunt]

Ahhhh!!!!

Whoa!

Koki: Did you hear that buzzing?

Maybe they are mini-sized with some kind of insect.

Aviva: But with what kind of buzzing insect?

Koki: Checking sound wave.

Searching database.

[strong buzzing sound]

That buzzing is created by the...

Bumblebee!

Aviva: Okay! So now we do know.

They are on a mini-size adventure

with endangered bumblebees!

Jimmy Z: But with their Creaturepods not responding,

how are we going to find them?

Aviva: It's a long shot.

But I might be able to spot them.

Zach! Koki: What's he doing here?

Zach: [evil laughter]

Turn on suction arms!

[vacuuming sounds]

[locking target]

[target lock beep]

Ahhh!! Come on!

Chris: Where are we going!

Martin: Not sure, but Bumblezzzz knows!

Chris: Who's Bumblez?

Martin: Not Bumblez- Bumblzzzzzzz.

Chris: Okay, who's Bumblezzzzzzz?

Martin: Uh, the bumblebee that you're sitting on.

Right, Bumblezzzzzzz?

Chris: Okay. Hey, Bumblezzzzzzz!

That's kinda hard to say.

Could I just call you Bumblez for short?

Martin: Bumblez works too. [chuckles]

Hey, remember that place?

Chris: Our log!

Bumblez is heading to our log.

But why? Martin: I don't know,

but we're headed to that hole next to our log. Hang on!

Chris: Uh-oh. Do salamanders eat bees?

Martin/Chris: Whoa...

Martin: She has taken us to the nest.

Chris: Say hello...to the Queen.

[gasps]

[bumblebee buzzing]

Martin/Chris: Your Majesty.

Martin: We bring fresh pollen and nectar

from your Kingdom of flowers.

Chris: Carried by your loyal servant, Bumblez.

[buzzing]

Martin: Now what's Bumblez doing?

Chris: Of course! A bumblebee carries pollen and nectar

back to the nest to feed the Queen.

The queen eats and drinks them and then lays eggs

that hatch into more bumblebee workers.

A bumble colony has one Queen,

and between to workers,

who bring her pollen and nectar to eat.

Martin: That's not a lot of workers,

so every one is really important.

We can't lose any of these endangered bumblebees.

Huh?

Chris: Uh-oh. Not going that way.

[buzzing] Martin: C'mon!

Bumblez is ready to take off.

[buzzing]

[vacuuming sounds]

Zach: I want more! Moooore!

[evil laughter]

Collect them all!

Martin: Oh no. Zach!

And that means trouble!

Uaaaaaah!

Koki: Zach! Stop! Zach: You?!

Koki: You can't make all the bees disappear!

Let me break it down for you, Zach.

Zach: Argh...

Koki: Bees carry pollen from flower to flower.

Pollen has to go from one flower to another,

for most plants to make nuts and seeds.

Without bees, there won't be new flowers, grass,

trees, fruits...or vegetables.

So without bees, this meadow could look like this.

Empty. Lifeless.

A barren wasteland.

Zach: Nice presentation.

But...I don't care!

Koki: Argh...

Maybe Chris and Martin can get through to him.

Jimmy Z: Where are the Kratt Brothers?

My cake isn't gonna eat itself!

Zach: I don't know. I haven't seen them...happily!

And I don't want to see you either.

Reverse suction!

Blow them away!

[blower sound]

Koki: Hey! Aviva/Jimmy Z: Whoa!

Chris: Uh-oh.

Martin/Chris: Ahhhh!!!

Martin: Zach, leave us alone!

Martin/Chris: Ahhhh!!!

Zach: [evil laughter] You're too late!

I already have those fuzzy things

inside my newest invention.

It's going to be Zachtastic!

[laughs]

Martin: Whoaaa....huh?

Chris: Hey, this place seems kind of familiar.

Martin/Chris: The Tortuga?

Chris: Where's a flower in the Tortuga?

Martin: [jumping grunt]

Huh? Ugh. What's this?

This is no natural flower.

[licks] It's an icing flower.

[gasps] ...on Jimmy's cake. Of course!

Aviva: I can't believe he did that.

Chris: Martin, look!

Martin: We're down here!

Chris: Hey, Aviva! Martin: Jimmy! Koki!

Aviva: We have to find the bros, so we can stop Zach!

Chris: Ah, they don't see us!

We know Bumblez always goes back to her nest,

so let's write them a message to meet us there.

Martin: Great idea!

Chris: [jumping grunts]

Yeah!

Martin: [chuckles]

Yeah!

Chris: Nice one!...Yeah!

Martin: Woo! Ah ha!

Chris: Keep it going, Martin!

Woo!!

Martin: C'mon, Bumblez is taking off!

[Bumblez buzzing]

Chris: Hey Jimmy, it's us. It's us!

Read our message!

Jimmy Z: Aah!! A bee!

Hey, look!

[reading] "We're on bee. Meet at log?"

Those bugs wrote a message in my icing.

Koki: The bros were on that bee.

They must mean that log

next to the Miniaturizer. Let's go!

[buzzing]

Martin: Nice landing, Bumblez.

[chuckles]

Chris: Oh yeah!

Martin: When you crawl into a flower,

pollen gets all over you.

Chris: Helping spread pollen from flower to flower,

so the plant can make seeds and nuts.

Martin: It's very important work, but Bumblez,

they're not gonna see us in here.

Koki: They must be around this area somewhere.

Aviva: Hmm...

There you are!

Chris: Aviva, you found us!

Aviva: I can't hear you.

Let me put on my sound amplifier.

Martin: Can you hear us now?

Aviva: Loud and clear! Martin: Great!

You've gotta program us a Bumblebee Creature Power Suit.

Chris: Zach is sucking up all the bees from this meadow.

We have to stop him!

Aviva: Okay. Give me your observations,

and I'll get right to creature power suit programming.

Martin: Bumblebees are amazing pollinators.

Chris: They have three body parts.

Head, thorax, abdomen.

Martin: Little wings for their big body

that move in special patterns to fly.

Chris: Have pollen baskets on their back legs, to carry...

[electrical zapping]

Aviva: Programming complete.

Two mini bumblebee power discs!

Chris: Incredible! Martin: Thanks, Aviva!

Martin/Chris: Insert bumblebee power discs.

Touch Bumblezzzzzzz.

And activate bumblebee powers!

Martin: Ah ha! Bumblebee powers!

Chris: To the creature rescue!

[buzzing]

There he is! Martin: Let's buzz!

[buzzing]

Zach: Ahhh!!! Hostile bees!

Martin: It's us, Zach.

Chris: Telling you to leave bumblebees alone.

Martin: [chuckles] And we'll bug you until you do!

Chris: Good one bro.

We'll bug you til you buzz off!

Zach: Bring out the bee swatters!

[swishing sounds]

Chris: A bee's small size makes them vulnerable.

Martin: And they need our help.

Chris: But we're the same size.

Martin: Oh yeah. Yikes!

Chris: Evasive maneuvers!

Martin: Tiny bees are always the underdogs!

But what if we had bee powers, but bigger?

Chris: You thinking what I'm thinking?

Martin: I think so!

Martin/Chris: Big size!

Chris: Oh yeah!

Martin: Should I go a little bigger? Hmm...

Zach: [laughs] Yes, get all the bumblebees!

[laughter]

Chris: Hey, Zach.

Why don't you pick on somebody your own size?

Zach: Aaah! Zachbots protect me!

Chris: Your days of being a bumblebee bully are over.

[loud buzzing] Buzz pollination powers!

Zach: Wait! What are you doing?!

[loud buzzing]

Chris: Fly away my little bumblebee friends!

Zach: Well then, meet my newest invention!

The Zachbot delivery drone,

Chris: We'll see about that.

[loud buzzing]

Yeow...whoa...ugh!

Zach: Now to get this magazine delivered to Donita.

Chris: Whoa...ah!

Ugh!

Maybe I should have gone a bit bigger.

Martin: Like this?

[loud buzzing]

Zach: AAAAAH!

Martin: No more bumblebee bullying in this meadow.

I'm sticking up for bumblebees!

With the buzzing power of Buzz Pollination!

[loud buzzing]

Zach: Woah!

Martin: And now our bumblebees can go back

to collecting pollen.

And to make it possible for all of us

to have flowers, fruit, plants and trees

in our meadows and forests.

Martin: Yeah. And the only thing that this drone

is going to deliver

is you to your ship and out of this meadow.

Zach: I promise never to bother bumblebees again!

Martin: Okay.

Zach: But I only said bumblebees!

Not any other animals!

Aviva: Well, we helped the endangered bumblebee.

Koki: One of the best native pollinators in North America,

who are starting to disappear, so they really need our help.

Chris: Living free and in the wild!

Jimmy Z: Hey Martin, are you coming in for cake?

Martin: In a second, Jimmy.

I'm bussssyy being a bumblebee.

[loud buzzing]

Martin: So a bumblebee is an amazing cool creature,

with all sorts of incredible creature powers.

Chris: And the bumblebees and the wild flowers

depend on each other for survival.

Martin: Now here we are in a solar field,

where pollinating plants have been planted

to help bumblebees.

Chris: Let's see who we can find buzzing around here.

The echinacea flower.

Bumblebees love echinacea.

Oh yeah! Here come the bumblebees.

Martin: And it's just not one kind of bumblebee,

there are many different species of bumblebees.

Look at this. We've got a tricolored bumblebee.

Black, yellow, orange!

Here's one. Two-spotted bumblebee.

Two black spots in the yellow patch.

And, oh yeah look,

a common eastern bumblebee,

with a mostly black abdomen.

This beautiful wild flower is bee balm.

Bumblebees love this plant so much,

a great place to look for 'em.

Chris: Oh, check it out! On this bee,

you can really see the pollen baskets.

They're full of pollen!

Only females have pollen baskets.

They collect pollen on their bodies,

by walking around on the flower!

Loose pollen grains stick to the bristly bee hair.

The bee will comb the pollen off with its front legs,

and wipe it onto her growing pollen basket.

And if we want there to be plenty of pollen

for these amazing creatures,

there's some easy ways we can help.

Martin: Yeah! A great way

to help the endangered bumblebee,

is to plant the wild flowers that they love.

And I've got a blue cardinal lobelia.

Chris: [chuckles] And I've got a prairie coneflower.

Bumblebees love these and we're going to plant them right here

on the edge of the meadow.
