It seems like it's hotter every time we visit.

Every day, she makes an entry.

She tracks the temperature, the weather condition,

even what color gardening gloves she wore!

-Looks like she wore her purple paisley gloves a lot this week.

-Here's the entry for this same time last year.

It says the temperature was cyber-degrees.

-And today it's cyber-degrees.

That's degrees hotter!

-Phew! I knew it was hot!

Whoa! It is hot, hot, hot in Factoria!

-Don't worry, Noon Blossom.

I'll keep you cool...somehow.

-You know, it looks like it's doin' okay

for a boring little plant.

It's special, like I said! You'll see.

We just need to keep it happy till noon.

That means it's likely that the summers here in Factoria

but maybe there are some things we can do

to make it easier to deal with the heat.

-Exactly!

We can all try to adapt to the heat --

ya know, find ways to keep cool.

-And maybe even save the Flower Show!

This dark ground is really hot.

Oh, but this light-colored sidewalk is cooler.

I heard Mr. DeZine say that dark colors

retain more heat than light colors.

That's probably why.

-The rooftops here are dark, too!

Granny calls this area an urban heat island

because these buildings trap the heat, especially at night.

-Oh, so, they don't get a chance to cool off.

-Then we definitely don't want to have the Flower Show here.

[ Thermometer beeps ]

-This side of the street is sunny and hot.

-But this side feels much cooler!

[ Gasps ] Only cyber-degrees here.

-Probably because the shade from these trees

helps to lower the temperature.

Green spaces like this are a big help

when it gets really hot.

-A nice place to sit and get away from the heat.

Ahhhhhh.

-Oh, yeah!

It is hot, isn't it?

Without power to run my machines,

we can't make the canopies!

The Flower Show is off again!

-The machines might be down, Zoreen,

but the CyberSquad is not!

after being flooded during a hurricane.

I'm so glad it's open again. -Me, too.

This must be where the water came in.

It looks like they put up these walls to keep water out

if there's another bad storm.

[ Soft, dramatic music plays ]

[ Whimsical music plays ]

-[ Giggles ]

-[ Blowing sharply ]

Excuse me. Can I ask you a question?

-Sure.

-It doesn't look like there was a flood here.

What happened?

-The entire floor was covered with water.

-I hope that never happens ever again.

-Data show that hurricanes are happening more often.

It isn't certain that another hurricane will occur,

but it is likely. So, we need to be prepared.

-What do you mean? It is important to create

other ways to redirect the flow of water

to prevent the type of floods that happened here.

-Like those walls at the old entrance?

-Those walls are a temporary way

to keep out large amounts of rainwater.

The team is thinking about other ways

to redirect the flow of water. -What kind of things?

-Rain gardens can help absorb water,

and the blacktop in our parking lot

can be replaced with other material

so that the water can seep into the ground

instead of into our building.

-Those ideas make sense.

Many animals eat plants for food.

On one side, there's not enough water,

and there's a drought. And on the other side,

there's too much water, and it's flooded.

So the goal is to get the balance just right.

-In this exhibit, you have more control over water flow

than people do in the real world.

So, experts are studying real-life situations

to help us prepare for future floods.

-Now I have a whole new understanding

about what it means to go with the flow.
