After winning the primary
bedroom, bathroom

and entryway challenge,

Kyle and Savannah
tried to recapture

the magic in the living room.

But the biggest room
in the cabin

(tile shatters)

presented the biggest
challenge so far.

Kyle: This is way
out of my element.

Scott: What is going on here?

(loud screams)

Three teams were fighting
for their first win.

Rotem: We need to
win this competition.

Scott: But April and
Arnold took it home

with their luxe living room.

(clapping)

This week presents the most
unique challenge yet.

April: This is like a nightmare.

Scott: And it'll take some
big ideas to take the win.

Goodness!!

Four pro builder-designer teams

from across North America

are leaving everything behind
to show us what they've got.

Bryan: Their mission:
to transform these four cabins,

inside and out, in only 7 weeks.

Scott: The team with
the best cabin,

wins a game-changing prize

of $100,000.

I'm Bryan Baeumler.
And I'm Scott McGillivray.

Scott/Bryan:
Welcome to Renovation Resort.

Bryan: Hi, teams!
All: Hello/Hi!

Bryan: I hope you had a good
rest because we are moving

into the third challenge
at Renovation Resort.

Scott: You've already done
a lot of work downstairs.

You've got your primary
bedrooms, main floor bath,

front entry, and you've also
completed your living room.

Bryan: We think it's a good
time to take a trip upstairs.

Troy: The first two challenges
were very stressful,

but we're ready to bring it.

April: I think we're
in a good place.

I don't want to be overconfident,

but I also want to recognize
that we're doing a good job.

Savannah: It's a new week.
It's a new challenge.

I'm just excited to get started.

Bryan: The challenge for
this week is the loft.

♪

Scott: But with this space,
there is a twist.

in a vacation rental property
like this,

every square foot matters.

So we are looking
for you to create

a dual purpose for this room.

Bryan: So what does this mean?

Well, it could be
a kid's playroom

that transforms into
a reading nook,

would be a games room
that becomes a meditation space.

Scott: So the loft is
a bit of a flex space.

Bryan: We can't wait
to see how you mash

these two uses together.

Scott: You may be
tackling a new space,

but the judging criteria
stays the same.

We will be looking at the
quality of your work,

the functionality of the space

and the creativity
of your ideas.

And don't forget rain or shine,

this space must be complete
by the end of the week.

All: Ah! No!

Bryan: You've all been
given the same budget

of $100,000
to complete these cabins,

and that must
take you to the end.

So spend your money wisely.

Scott: And remember,
at the end of the competition,

the team that transforms
their cabin

into the most jaw-dropping,
spectacular vacation

rental property
will not only win

the bragging rights as
Renovation Resort champions,

but also... $100,000!

All: Yeah! Absolutely!
(clapping)

Scott: Rotem and Troy, is this
your week to take it or what?

Troy: I think the other teams
are going down on this one.

Honestly!
Jena: Bring it!

Scott: Jena and Sean,
how are you feeling about this?

Jena: We came here to play.
We came here to win.

We're ready!
Scott: Okay.

Bryan: All right. Teams are
lofts are waiting for you.

Scott: Let's make it happen.
Bryan: Let's go!

Troy: This is
the money room.

Rotem: This is a
magnificent room.

So this, we have to
make super special.

Different.
Troy: What are you thinking?

Rotem: At first glance, our loft
space is going to look like

an office area
with a desk and storage.

But, there's a surprise!

We're adding a bookcase
in the middle, that will open

to reveal a secret home gym!

And to top it off,
a huge wall mirror

to help open up the room.

Troy: So I think we should
have some sort of feature

which lets this light
through to the office.

Rotem: That's a good idea.
Troy: We'll figure it out.

♪

Arnold: This room is a nice
little space, but

feels really closed off.
April: It does.

And I feel like, you know,
if we could see the living room

pendant lights from in here,

that would be amazing.

Arnold: And showcase your
beautiful fireplace,

with the glass railing...
April: With the glass. Yes!!

That wall has to go!

We'll make it a large open
space to the living room below.

And we'll turn this into a

high tech home theater and den,

with a projector and
drop down screen,

for some epic movie watching.

We can do a home office,

and I see a tricked out
coffee table

and a comfortable modern sofa,
to tie it all together.

Arnold: So I really want
to get a projector in here,

so I probably need some power
here. Leave you to painting.

Finish up with flooring
and then be ready to go.

April: If we win this challenge,

it's certainly gonna be
because of this theater.

I mean, I think it's
the best idea

with the type of stuff so far.

Arnold: The loft compared
to the first two challenges,

I've done a lot of tile work.

It will be a break from some of
the more laborious activities.

April: Maybe we need to
change the plan?

Arnold: No!
April: Hm.

♪ (upbeat music) ♪

Savannah: Okay.
Let's talk about this view!

It is incredible,
and I think that

if we bring the outdoors in,
in this space,

I think it will be really fun.

This loft space is a perfect
spot to focus on family.

We are adding a pull-out sofa
and a door

to create an extra
sleeping spot.

This room will also be
a gym space

with a smart fitness mirror.

And I've been dying to use a
wall mural

that will bring the outdoors in.

Kyle: Okay.
Savannah: Colors of
it will be so good.

I think that the green
will really play well

off of this big, giant window.

So if we do a telescope
right here,

we do a wall mural right here,
I think it'll be really fun.

Kyle: By wall mural,
do you mean more wallpaper?

Savannah: That's
exactly what I mean.

It's gonna be great.

Jena: We were quite
down on ourselves

after challenge 1 and 2,

knowing that you haven't
placed twice in a row.

Sean: Love it.
Jena: But I have to continuously

tell myself,
'you are here for a reason.'

Sean: What are you thinking?

Jena: We're goin' big.
That wall? History!

And with it gone, we can double
the size of this loft

by suspending a giant net
above the living room.

Then we'll add a projector
and screen to make this

not just a lounge,
but also a theater.

Add in a sectional couch
that doubles as a bed,

and even more people
can watch movies.

An amazing loft net.
Sean: Love it.

Jena: This could be...
a work away from home.

Look, Scott and Bryan
asked us for two functions,

so we've got a loft net,
it's a reading nook,

you can watch movies there,
you can sleep there,

we've got a pull out sofa.
Sean: Okay.

Jena: That will increase

the amount of people that come
to rent this place out.

Sean: I agree.

Jena: We've lost
the first two challenges.

Amazing.
Sean: Maybe!

Jena: We need some redemption.

Sean: We need redemption now.
Jena: Yeah.

(hammering)

Scott: Jena and Sean,

they are determined

to prove themselves now.

Bryan: There's four really
talented teams here.

It's going to be
a monumental task

to be that number one team.

April: Woah!

(circular saw whirring)

Rotem: Like butter.

Savannah: The first
thing we need to do,

is paint these logs.

Gonna bring
some of those green elements

from the outside in, which
just my goal for this room.

I love this color!

Oh, wow! This is beautiful!

It's gonna look so stunning.

That tree in this window,

and this green is just so good.

♪

Arnold: We want to make sure
that we have

this projector out of the way.

But you do want it
recessed though, right?

April: The projector? Yeah.

Arnold: I'll just bust
a hole right here.

♪
(drill buzzing)

Jena: Scott and Bryan, they
haven't loved lime wash.

I still feel it's the right
choice for us.

It's adding
that minimal texture.

It keeps things soft.

There's also an
imperfection value to it.

It doesn't have to be perfect.

And I think Sean and I, too,

you're never going to
see us fully polished.

We're not those people.

So that paint for us
is also kind of

a metaphor for
who we are as people.

Sean: It really pops,
and we just hope

that the judges see that.

Savannah: I want to do
a custom mural.

This was definitely a splurge.

But I think that this will be
a really big wow.

Kyle: Be great when
we get to the last phase

and we have $20 bucks left.

Can we get a line
of credit, please?

(door knocking)
Scott: Hey!

Savannah/Kyle: Hello!

Scott: So, you guys have
fully closed in this loft.

Kyle: Yep!
Savannah: Yes, we have.

Bryan: Tell us what's happening.

Savannah: I really want
this to be a family spot.

We definitely have
thought about our kids

when we designed this space.
Kyle: Yeah.

Scott: What would your kids
think about what you're doing?

Kyle: I think they'd
love it up here.
Savannah: Yeah, our goal.

Scott: Are you okay?
Savannah: Yeah, I'm good.

Kyle: She'll be alright.
She'll be alright.

Savannah: Missing my kids
as much as I am,

they have really inspired me
here, and they have given me

the fuel that I need,
when I'm just so tired.

Scott: What's going
through your mind?

Savannah: Just--

(soft sniffling)

While I'm here,

it's like I'm just
imagining the memories

that are going to be made
here for every family.

And I think that that's
what I'm thinking about.

So, as I've designed
each space, it hasn't,

it's not just a space for me,
it's memories as a family.

And, like our kids are
only young... for so long,

and so every single room
that I've done in here

has been what
they would think and

just, we're just
trying to make 'em proud.

Kyle: The most precious
thing we have in this life

is our families.

Gosh... I miss my kids.

(loud sigh)

Scott: They are tapping into
their personal experiences,

no matter how
emotional they are,

in order to drive
their design forward.

Bryan: It's great
to pull on that emotion

and kind of use
that as motivation,

but you can't lose focus.

You can't miss them so much that

you're not able to do
what you came here to do.

Troy: First steps for the loft
space will be to build

a partition wall between

the office space and the gym.

Rotem: I'm taking a risk here,
and I'm hoping that

splitting that room into two
and making it a dual zone,

I think we will get really
good use out of both spaces.

Troy: We are stepping outside
of our comfort zone here,

building secret Murphy doors.

We've never done this before.

It's a little bit
nerve-wracking.

We're here to win it.
I hope it doesn't backfire.

And it's frightening,
it's scary.

Scott: We're approaching the
halfway point

of the competition.

In just over four weeks,

one team will not only
be crowned

Renovation Resort Champion,

but also claim the
$100,000 prize.

This week we have
the competitors

working on their loft space
and this is the most

freestyle of all the challenges.

They can make it
whatever they want

as long as it serves
two purposes.

♪

Troy: This partition wall is
going to house the

secret doors.

We're pushing the envelope.
It's definitely a risk.

So when you're walking
up to the space,

you're going to see a bookshelf.

Rotem: Gonna look like
an office space. Small.
Troy: Gonna look like
an office space.

And you're not gonna know
what's behind that.

You're gonna think that
that room ends there.

And then when you open it up,

it's gonna be the big surprise.

It's a great size.
Rotem: Perfect size
for a home gym.

Troy: I hope it's going to bode
well for the rental market.

Rotem: Beauty!
Scott: Hello?

Bryan: Hello.
Rotem: Oh, hey! Welcome.

Scott: Your loft
is divided in two.

Rotem: You said you
need a dual purpose,

so there's going to be
a built-in desk over here

to provide an office space,
a little office nook.

And once you open the doors,
you will reveal--?

Troy: A beautiful... gym!

Scott: Oh! Gym.
Rotem: A home gym.

Scott: A home gym.
You can use that.

Bryan: Are you
concerned at all

that when you come
up the stairs here,

Rotem: Mhm?
Bryan: The view will be

hidden behind a bookshelf.

Rotem: We are leaving
a little bit of an open here

for a window to allow
for natural light.

Bryan: So, you gonna put a
pane of glass up there. Okay.
Rotem: Exactly.

Bryan: The idea
of having these bookshelf

hidden rooms with the
gym in the workspace

is pretty interesting.

Scott: Yeah, it's kind of neat!
If they can pull it off,

I think it could be great.

(door knocking)

April: Oh, no!

Kyle: So once again,
we're hard at work

and there's a knock at the door.

April: Ugh, it's
another bonus build.

Scott: All of our competitors
have an entrepreneurial spirit,

and one of the best qualities
of an entrepreneur,

is their ability
to think on your feet.

And that's exactly what this
week's bonus building is about.

Rotem: Oh, no!
Troy: What do we have here?

Savannah:
There is a tackle box,

and there's also a crate
full of all sorts of things.

Jena: Using materials in
the crate, you must build...

(sighs)

...an original piece of artwork,

Savannah:--for your loft
or landing that not only fits

with the design of your cabin,

but also tells us
something about you.

April: It's time to let
your inner-artist shine,

Scott and Bryan.
Arnold: Oh, great.

Jena: Oh, there's color!

Bryan: We really want to
challenge their creativity

and see what they
can come up with.

Savannah: Okay, this
is gonna be fun.

Scott: We want to see
that it's on brand.

We want to see
that it adds value

and we want to see
that it's done well.

Rotem: There's so many
things we can make here.
Troy: You're a great
artist. This actually,

Rotem: Oh, wow.
Troy: There's so many things
you can make here.

She can do almost anything.
She amazes me!

Rotem: Nails?!
Troy: Nail art. Absolutely!

Rotem: I've got yarn.

Jena: Well, maybe
there's like um...

The feat already feels impossible.

And now we have this bonus build

where we have to spend time

on this small stuff,

when we've got
big picture to deal with.

That looks like a
basketball hoop to me.

Sean: I'm not confident
what to do with this stuff.

Savannah: I've got jute.
That's cute.

Got paintbrushes.

Kyle: I have that
app on my phone,

that broadcasts and
will mimic the sky, okay?

We lay down and broadcast that

and I tell you
where to paint stars.

And we connect those dots

with yarn to make
the constellations.

You know what I'm saying?

I'm not the most creative,

but I'm feeling
really good about this.

My other idea was to spray
some adhesive up here

and then lay down and just
randomly throw string up,

get it to stick, and then
once the adhesive dries,

we paint it all,
it's just like... blah!

Savannah:
I'm feeling nervous because

I already have
a vision for this space.

I love the idea that Kyle has

with the constellations
and the stars.

I just want to take it
one step further.

We've got gold acrylic paint.
We have spray paint.
Kyle: Can we just,
can we just take a minute?

Savannah: We're gonna do our
stars out of this... artwork.

The whole entire ceiling--
Kyle: I know we're doing,
we're definitely doing that.

But can I do my thing
I talked about?

Savannah: That's gonna be a no.

Kyle: Okay.
Savannah: Okay.

Kyle: It's okay.
I know I don't have an option,

but I don't have
to be happy about it.

Savannah: Oh, please.

April: DIY does not really align

with the luxury branding

that we're doing in this cabin.

This is like a nightmare.

I do not do DIY.

I'm looking at this stuff
and I hear like,

(horror movie screech sound)

The stress is real!

I just don't know what to do
for this bonus build.

April: I just don't know

Bryan: Hello, hello!
Scott: Working on
your loft outside?

April: Hi!

Bryan: Your bonus build.

Scott: It's a box
of material right now.

April: It is. I'm not
the most DIY-ish,

so I'm trying to... you know

channel my inner artist.

I don't have a good poker face.

Scott and Bryan
are definitely picking up

on all of my nervousness
about this bonus build.

Bryan: Do you have any ideas?

Arnold: I have some ideas.
Bryan: You've got some ideas?

So are you more
the creative artist?

Arnold: Creativity,
I find solutions, so...

Scott: So why haven't
you found a solution yet?

Arnold: I have.
Bryan: (laughs)

Arnold: I'm just working towards

how to implement that solution.

April: We have
gold spray paint, so--

Scott: Gold spray
paint fixes everything.

We can even spray Bryan
with gold spray paint,

and he would look better.

The two of you are
super busy out here.

I see that the pressure is on.

April: We're gonna
get it together.

I get creative
when the pressure's on,

and I recognize that
we're in the competition.

I hope we can figure it out.

Sean: I've never
done one of these,

but I think
I've got it in my head.

Jena: I'm excited.
Sean: Me too!

All the framing and all the
structural is there to support.

We can now move ahead
and put our loft net in.

This is going to be the
showcase for our whole cabin.

Jena: This is the biggest risk

we're taking in this cabin.

We cannot mess it up.

The coolest thing about
working with this guy,

is he allows me to think
as big as I can.

Sean: Thrilled to be able
to work beside Jena.

She has some really big ideas.

She knows everything
about the game.

Jena:
When it comes to creativity,

I genuinely just
owe it to my parents.

Ever since I was young,

they've always just
let me be who I was.

I was the kid
with a short haircut

who could pass as a boy
for half my life.

My parents never, ever,
ever told me that

how I felt,
what I did, was wrong.

And so having that freedom
from a very young age

and having that love
and acceptance always,

has just allowed me to create

whatever I feel
makes sense to me.

Sean: I love the challenge.

As long as she doesn't
ask me to install pillows,

or decorating or
hang a picture frame.

Jena: The fact that he
even says 'install pillows'

means he's not the right guy.

Sean: We've got all
the hardware in.

Now, the next step is we've
just got to net this thing up.

Jena: How're you guys doing?
Scott: What is happening?

Sean: I'm gonna leave
a little to the imagination.

Scott: Everybody get a corner.

Let me see what we're
dealing with here.

Sean: This might
give it away, guys.

Scott: Okay. This isn't a wall--

Bryan: A floor.
Sean: A platform.

Scott: A platform!
Jena: There you go.

Scott: So people
can go on top of this?

Sean: Correct.
Jena: Absolutely.

Scott: Seriously?

This is some
out-of-the-box thinking.

Is this like a giant hammock

then, what are you saying?
Sean: Correct.

Scott: And it's going to span
above the entire living room.

And you access it from the loft?

Jena/Sean: Exactly.

Bryan: Has there been any
engineering involved with this?

Sean: It has.
Bryan: Because this could be,

for a rental property,
huge liability.
Sean: I know!

Jena: We've actually overengineered,

in all of our opinions,
this entire setup.

Scott: This is by
far the biggest risk

that we've seen taken
in this competition so far.

Jena: Awesome! Look,

the point of competition
is to take risks.

If you don't take them,
how do you stand out?

So, we'd rather fail and try,
than not try at all.

Sean: No risk, no reward.

Bryan: I was a little surprised
by this loft thing,

but I think it's
a fantastic idea.

It adds square footage,
literally, to the cabin.

Jena: Something like this,
imagine the photos,

the marketing around this item.

Scott: It's going to be
probably almost impossible

for a guest to come
to this place and experience

this net without posting
or talking about it.

That could be a game changer.

But if in any way,

this starts to feel claustrophobic,

or if you get stuck,

or it starts to fail,
it's game over.

Bryan: Cool.

April: I think this loft space
is adding

a tremendous value
to this rental.

Arnold: The loft is for
the business traveler.

When a day is done,
it's time to relax,

have a drink and enjoy
something on the screen.

With the bonus build,

I have an idea
to hide our projector,

So I'm thinking about having

some sort of displayed artwork
that we can craft.

April: We're from Chicago,

so we're doing the Chicago flag.

Arnold: The Chicago flag
is my idea.

I want to represent Chicago
and I wanted to make sure

we can include it
in the competition.

April: I hate arts and crafts!

Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate!

This is so
out of my comfort zone.

Arnold: You have to
make it pretty.

You said that's your job,
just to make it pretty.

April: No, with retail things

that I buy out of the store.

You know the worst part
about DIY?

Is actually having
to do it myself.

I don't like that part.

Troy: I'm gonna build a desk

and then let's try to
limit the customization.

Rotem: It has to be custom.

Troy: It is very stressful

working with my lovely wife
and her vision.

Rotem: I like bringing
unique things into spaces,

making it like one-of-a-kind.

Troy: Under the time crunch,
it's hard to meet those

lofty ideals,
but Rotem is right.

We need to push ourselves
with these custom elements,

especially this being
a rental vacation property.

People are like,
'wow, I want to stay there!'

Mediocrity is not
gonna win this thing.

Scott: While the competitors
continue to work inside,

Bryan and I are also working
on the entire property.

We want to get the
landscaping prepped.

Bryan: And it's hot.
We have to make sure

that we're properly hydrated.

Scott: You thirsty?
Bryan: I am thirsty.

Scott: Let me

Bryan: If you don't
take care of yourself--

Scott: This is what happens.
Bryan: You can't--

Scott: You look dehydrated.
Bryan: I-I do!

Savannah: The worry I have
with wall murals,

is that you have one shot.

You have one panel.
Each panel is different.

And so, if you make a mistake,
you're in trouble.

Kyle: The first panel is
by far the most critical.

It's got to be perfectly level,
perfectly square.

Savannah: I feel like
I'm holding my breath.

You're past the line up there.

You see where you're at?
Kyle: Hold the slack up.

Oh, I'm so far off here.

Savannah: We're far
off all the way down.

Kyle: Oh, boy.

Savannah: We only have one shot
with each of these panels.

Don't! Don't!! Oooh--

I'm struggling.

Kyle: So I'm ripping this
off the wall to start over.

Savannah: With wall murals,
you have one shot.

And so, if you make a mistake,
you're in trouble.

I'm struggling.

This is stuff that we
would be able to do

at home, really easily.

And I just think
that we're just,

we are a little bit flustered.

You're going v-pattern,

The first piece
is always the hardest.

Whooo! It's a sigh of relief.

But then I have to
move on to the next one.

Kyle won't stop working,
to slow down

and to actually look at it,
and I cannot get enough.

I'm really excited about it.

The position of the tree
right outside of our window

lines up perfectly
with this wall mural.

No, Kyle, seriously,
look at the trees,

and then it carries
around to that tree.

So it's worth every penny.

Kyle: I don't want to
look at how pretty it is.

I want to finish it,
and then I will look at it.

Savannah: Kyle,
it's a show stopper

Kyle: We're feeling the long
days and I need a break.

Savannah: I feel like
when we stand in the circle

and we hear everything
that's going on

with the other teams,
it makes me feel nervous.

Like this is stiff competition.

I know you guys are cooking up
something big over there.

Jena: This one's a risk. Like,
it could literally pay off,

or we could--

Sean: We could lose the whole
competition with this.

Jena: Yeah, this could be--
Savannah: Really?!

Kyle: Listen, getting to know
you two a little more, though,

I'm most nervous for the loft
'cause you guys are

free spirits, and that's a--
Sean: Yes!

Kyle: 'Do whatever you want'
kind of space.

Sean: That can go
for us or against us.

Savannah: I agree.
Sean: Do you know what I mean?

Jena: The relationship,
or bond we've built

with Savannah and Kyle
is amazing.

It's just so cool to see that

people from completely
opposite spectrums of life

can come together and really
see the similarities,

the commonalities, and find
beauty in the differences.

Sean: Well, guys, I think
this is the best job site

I've worked on for a while.
Jena/Savannah: Yeah!

Savannah: It's so gorgeous here.

Rotem: Okay so,
we have to guide this in,

then I can line it up
and you can put it into place.

Troy: Building the Murphy doors,
we've never done this before.

I'm nervous. I hope
we can figure it out.

Rotem: I was not expecting it
to go as smoothly.

All this weight
on his shoulders,

just... off entirely.

Rotem: Aw, that's so cute.

Scott: Then others.

April: No!

Aghhh!

Savannah: I'm going to add
some hand-drawn stars

to make the magic
really come to life up here.

I finally get to play.

It's gonna take
a little bit more time,

time that we probably
don't really have.

But, this is like my own hand.
You can't buy this.

And I want to leave a little
piece of me here in this cabin.

And I think it's
going to be really magical.

April: Alright! I'm done!
Arnold: You're done, really?

April: Yes.
Arnold: Finally?

April: What do you think?
Arnold: That looks good!

I have to admit, April's
Chicago flag looks great.

I wish it hadn't taken so long.
April: (laughs)

Arnold: I mounted these
metal strips here,

and I'm going to put
magnets on the back of here.

Hopefully, this should be able
to hold the weight up.

April: I am extremely proud

of how it looks.

of the loft challenge

completing your third challenge.

Bryan: Here to help us
judge your lofts this week,

is a designer who has
transformed many spaces.

Alright!

Scott: Welcome, Sarah!
Sarah: Hi, everybody!

Scott: This week, our
competitors have been

working on their lofts.

We've asked them to create
a dual purpose in this space.

Sarah: Okay!
Scott: You have
a lot of experience

with making fun
and interesting places.

So what will you be looking for
when judging their lofts?

Sarah: Well, I've also worked
on a lot of small spaces,

so I'm going to be
looking for a lot of

intelligent design
solutions to maximize

the amount of square footage
that you've got there.

I'm going to be
looking for style

and I want to be 'wowed.'

Scott: You think we will be
'wowed' by your lofts?

All: Yes!
- Of course!

Scott: All right, fantastic.

You ready to go check them out?
Sarah: Oh, I'm ready!

Bryan: All right,
let's go have some fun!
Sarah: Okay!

Scott: April and Arnold have
been relying on technology

in their luxe lodge, and I bet
their loft will be no exception.

Bryan: Woohoo!
Sarah/Scott: Wow!

Scott: Yeah. They've gone
with the open concept,

so you've got the glass rail.

It feels really big and grand
in the main space.

Bryan: Great view as well.

Sarah: This view is amazing.

Bryan: Yeah, you
get both windows.

Sarah: You've
doubled
down on it here.

That's a really great idea.

Just removing
the wall completely.

Bryan: When you go dark
and you wrap the ceilings,

it really accentuates

even the smallest deficiency.

Sarah: The payoff for that,
though, is the fact that

it frames this amazing view,

and that is a huge plus for me,
in a cabin like this.

Scott: So I can tell they've
obviously set this up

as a living room, and there's
a set of instructions here.

your meetings for the day,

And of course, you need
a nice, cold beverage

refrigerator
built in to our table.

Bryan: No!
Sarah: What?!

Bryan: I didn't even--
All: Aaaah!

Scott: That's impressive.

The only thing that I would say,

there's a little bit of a
rough edges on the projector.

I do have to give them credit.

They understood the assignment.
Bryan: Yeah.

Scott: You've got the theater,
you've got the lounge.

You've even got an
office space over here.

Sarah: If this is the caliber
of what we're talking about,

even design-wise,
I am blown away by this.

It's sexy up here. It's cool.

Bryan: I think they knocked it
out of the park here.

April and Arnold spent just
under $7-grand on their loft,

leaving them lots of cash
to build on

their Luxe Lodge theme
in future challenges.

Scott: You like this?

Rotem and Troy's
Mediterranean style

caught our eyes
in their living room,

but they are still
without a win.

Let's see how their big risk
in the loft turned out.

Sarah: Wow!
Scott: They've decided to
close things in a little bit.

Sarah: I'm just a
little confused about

closing in a space that was

already really tiny
to begin with.

be Rotem and Troy's.

Bryan: Loft!

Sarah: Wow!
Scott: They've decided to
close things in a little bit.

Bryan: A little bit.
Sarah: Yeah. I mean,

I love this built-in desk area.

It definitely has
a nice feel over here.

I'm just a little confused
about closing in a space

that was already really
tiny to begin with.

Bryan: I think their idea
here was to really

extend your vacation
by giving you

an area to do some work.

Sarah: That's true.
Bryan: But we did challenge them

up here to
come up with dual use.
Sarah: Yes.

Scott: And we also gave
them a bonus build, right?
Sarah: Yes.

Scott: There you go.

Sarah: Good old-
fashioned string art.

Sarah: It is very cute.

Maybe a little too cute
for my personal taste,

but I appreciate
the execution of it.

Scott: There is a window
to let in some light.

I know this feels tight.
Sarah: Yeah.

Scott: However--

Sarah: Oh... snap.

Scott: What?

I cannot wait to see this done.

Bryan: Wow! Sarah,
it's time to pump you up!

Sarah: Yeah, you did!
Bryan/Scott: (chuckle)

Sarah: What?!
Bryan: Yes.

Scott: Hidden gym!

Sarah: Okay. Huge
wow factor for this.

Bryan: This is a surprise.

Sarah: Okay.
As someone who doesn't

come on vacation to work out,

this 'key view'

is now co-opted by the gym.

I don't know. Is that
appealing to everyone, right?

Bryan: There are a lot of people

that want to know,
I can go on vacation.

Maybe that's the only time
I have to hit the gym.
Sarah: That's true. Yeah.

Bryan: My big issue with this
room is that it's so closed in,

I think there was a huge lost
opportunity to at least put

some glass or something in here
to feel connected to the rest.

Sarah: Think of how beautiful
that view of those faux beams

would be from here.
Scott: Yeah, that's true.

Bryan: And your window,
your doubling

your view of
outside here as well.

Scott: For someone like myself,
I like to keep up

my fitness routine
while I'm away.

Bryan: I think they
hit it here with the gym.

I think they missed it
with the view and leaving it

closed off to the
rest of the house.

Scott: At almost $10-grand,
Rotem and Troy's loft

is the biggest
spend of the week.

But will it pay off and give
them their first win?

Jenna and Sean have
struggled so far

with their playful,
minimalist style.

And I'm kind of hoping
for more from them.

I'd love to see playful maximalism.

Scott: My--!

This is amazing!

This is probably the most
bananas thing we have ever seen.

Bryan: Added square
footage. Even more.

I'd say probably 140.
Sarah: Right?

Scott: Every space
needed to have

a couple of different functions.

Bryan: We've got a workspace,
we've got a living space,

we have a fun play space,

and you have a home theater.

Okay.
Sarah: Wow. Think about that.

The family sitting here,
the kids down there in the mesh.

And this is a
pull-out bed as well.

Bryan: So really, there's
six uses in this room.

Sarah: Yeah.
Bryan: Our criteria were

two uses in this room,
and the bonus build.

Scott: Looks like they wrapped
maybe a bit of a foot rest here.

Bryan: I'd be hesitant
to put a drink on that.

Scott: Yeah,
Sarah: This is a stretch.

But frankly, like, oh, yes!

Bryan: There are definitely
some challenges here

with the finishes on the posts.

Sarah: My eye is forgiving
a lot of that stuff.

It doesn't bother me.

This has huge wow factor!

I think when you find this,
you're scrolling

for a vacation property...
Scott: Yes.

Sarah: Like this is
where you want to come,

even just to try this out!

Scott: I can't
resist it any longer!

I have to try!
Bryan: Get in there, kids!

Ready? One...
Scott: And I'm kind of scared!

Bryan: Two...
Scott: No, don't push me!

Bryan: Three...

Scott: (screams)

Oooh, that took a second!

Sarah: That was a
serious leap of faith.
Scott: There was
a commitment there!

Sarah: Whaaa...
Bryan: Alright. Let's,
let's actually try this.

We've got
the projector.

The kids are on the net...
Sarah: Yeah! Oh, nice.

Bryan: Mom and Dad
are back on the couch.

Sarah: It's so cool, guys!
Scott: Even just for
a couple's weekend.

Could you imagine? Like,
you're just hanging out here?

Sarah: Yeah, and it's fun!
Bryan: It works.

Scott: They've done
all the engineering.

This could just be a gimmick,
but they actually

did it properly.
Bryan: Yeah.

Scott: And I'm giving them
mad points for that.

Jena and Sean's loft net got
them big bang for their buck,

spending $8,000 all in.

Leaving them a healthy budget

for the second half
of the competition.

Savannah and Kyle had a clear,
romantic and nostalgic theme

for the first two challenges.

Let's see if that continues
in the loft.

Sarah: Oh, this is cute!

Okay, I'm a little bit biased.

I used this exact mural before.

It's got that, like,
English storybook kind of a vibe

that I'm really picking up
through this entire space.

Scott: Yes.
Bryan: And I do believe
this is a pull out.

This really is... kids play area,

extra bedroom.

You got a television here.
So it's entertainment.

This is--
Sarah: Oh!

Scott: That's a fitness mirror.
Great for a vacation rental.

Guests can try
different workouts

with a personal trainer
who pops up on screen.

Sarah: This is, I think,
how you execute... a gym

as a serious,
multi-functional space.

Bryan: Right. They use
the paint in the DIY kit

to put all these stars
on the ceiling.

Sarah: See--
Bryan: That's kind of cool.

Sarah: I love that. And I think
it's really tasteful.

And it works with the decor.

I love that.
Scott: Part of the bonus build.

Sarah: (gasps)
Scott: Some of the yarn.

Look at this! This is so good!
Sarah: This is so cute!

Sarah: This room is
a real winner for me.

Bryan: Kyle is obviously
very skilled with his hands.

Installation in here,
there's very little

to point out that
I'm unhappy with.

The only thing I would be
unhappy with a little bit

on the design side, is that

it's a little cramped in here.

Sarah: But this
is the clubhouse.

Bryan: True.
Sarah: Is the way I see it.

Scott: You can play,
you can relax--

Sarah/Scott:
And you can work out!

Bryan: And they've got the
foosball table. Do you play?

Scott: I win!

Sarah: Game!

Bryan: Oh!

Scott: Whoa, whoa, whoa!!

Savannah and Kyle spent just
over $8-grand on their loft,

and with three more challenges
and some big spaces left,

they are dangerously close to

the halfway point
of their budget.

We need to pick a winner
of the loft challenge.

Bryan: We do.
Sarah: They're so different!

Who knew that such a
small space could be ex*cuted

so differently?
I'm so impressed.

Bryan: But, Sarah, not
everybody can get a ribbon.

Scott: We need to decide
which one's the best.

Sarah: Okay, let's do this.

Sarah: Wow!
Scott: Are you
kidding me right now?

All: (laughing)

Scott: Those loft spaces,

that was an over-delivery
from everybody!

Sarah: None of them
look anything alike.

Bryan: That's been a theme.
You guys are doing a great job.

We're always impressed,
and you keep upping the game.

Scott: We're really starting
to see the quality of your work

come through, because it was
hard to pick apart anything

that was a major deficiency.

So, we spent a lot of time
talking about

the creativity and
functionality of the space.

Sarah: April and Arnold,
I really love the way

you completely opened
up the loft space,

and I do love the use
of black paint.

And it really brings
your eye out to the view,

which you want the view
to be the focal point there.

April: (chuckles) Oh my gosh!
All: (laughing)

April: Oh, where have you been

this entire time?

Bryan: I like the fact
that I'm sitting there,

my phone is charging,

I just did a little bit of work,

I'm relaxed, I got my feet up,

I can reach down, pour
some drinks for my friends,

and I can spin around
and watch a movie!
Arnold: That's right.

Scott: In terms of
your bonus build,

I like that you brought
Chicago back into the mix.

April: Alright!
I worked hard on that!

Scott: It looks good!

Your property
definitely needs to come

with a few instructions, because
there's so much going on.

But your brand is obvious

and you definitely
delivered on this one.

Arnold: Thank you!

Scott: Rotem and Troy?

I love surprises!
Rotem: Yaaaay!

And your loft had the
biggest surprise of all!

The wall opens up,

there's a whole gym!

Bryan: We actually
didn't all agree

on how important
a gym is on property.

Sarah: I personally would not
be using a gym on vacation.

Maybe it's not for me
as a flex space,

literally a flex space,

but I can see how that
does have a huge appeal.

The bookcase is... very cool.

I think your execution
of it was flawless.

Wow! That is huge 'wow' factor.

The only downside
is that when it is closed,

you don't see out to the lake
with this beautiful view.

For me, that was a
bit of a sticking point.

Rotem: Okay.
Troy: Okay, fair enough.

I have a little bit
of a pit in my stomach,

because I think
she might be right.

Bryan: Savannah and Kyle,
walking upstairs

into your loft area,

I walked into exactly

what I've come to expect
from both of you.

An incredibly warm,
inviting space.

You've put your
hearts into this.

You've thought about the kids.

You've thought about
your vacation experience.

Scott: I love that you brought
your bonus build into the space.

Sarah: The hand-painted stars.

It added that whimsy
that was ex*cuted beautifully.

Scott: It was imaginative.

It was creative.

I wanted to bring my kids
and my family to this space

to show them.
Sarah: Well done!

like we really have a chance.

Scott: I've seen a lot of folks

attempt some really kind of
crazy and gimmicky designs,

and it can devalue a property.

Jena: I'm panicking because,
if we don't win this,

we have no chance anywhere.

Scott: Essentially what
they have done is they have

extended the space over
the living room with mesh.

It's almost like lying out
on a catamaran.

Bryan: As a father of four,
I can tell you

the kids loved it!!
All: (laughing)

Jena: It works! It works.
Sean: It worked!

Scott: It worked!
Sean: Very well.

Scott: This could have
gone extremely wrong.
Sean: Yes.

Scott: I was
pleasantly surprised.

This is the first time
I've seen something

that I don't think I would
be able to find anywhere else.

Bryan: What you've managed to do

is essentially add
150 square feet to this cabin.

Sarah: And it takes a fantastic
designer to pull that off.

And so kudos to you.
Jena: Thank you so much.
Sean: Thank you.
Appreciate that.

Scott: This is going to be
a difficult one.

Bryan: Everybody is
really showing us

exactly what they're capable of.

Sarah: They're all
beautifully ex*cuted.

Scott: But we had to find
a way to narrow it down
