01x06 - Pascal Siakam & Lolo Jones

Post by bunniefuu »

- Remember when I broke your hand
on the basketball?

- Right.
- This is why.

Come on!

- RICO: Come on, now!

[all cheering]

- Karma is a b*tch, huh?

- MAN: Deflected by Lowry,

Nice pass ahead from Gasol.
Van Fleet to Siakam!

- MAN 2: What a slam!

- I'm Pascal Siakam
and I'm a professional basketball player.

- MAN: Siakam! Fierce finish!

PASCAL: Coming off the championship,

and also this season,
stepping into a new role,

people expect more from you.
So, that's what I'm focusing on right now.

[crowd cheering]

- I'm Lolo Jones. I'm a hurdler.

We're less than a year out
from the Olympics.

I'm just trying to make my last
summer team and finally get a medal.

MAN: Come on sh**ter, here we go!

[indistinct chatter]

- LOLO: Hey, guys!

- Hey, hey, hey.
- What's up? Nice to meet you.

- What's up, how you doing,
nice to meet you.

- I'm Lolo. Pleasure
- I'm Pascal. Nice to meet you.

- LOLO: So, what are we doing today?
- RICO: Here's what we got, OK?

We've got a two-minute run.

- Two? You know I run
for 12 seconds, right?

- You'll be all right.
He got you covered.

- I'mma do that Usain Bolt tribe on you.
- There you go. Let's do this.

There, there.

- For me, the first thing is conditioning
right? That's what we focus on

because the game's fast.

- RICO: You just gotta breathe.
Your track coach says, "Breathe," right?

Just breathe.

- The more conditioning you can have,
the better, so, we try to get me tired

and then, you know,
do, like, the work out.

When you're tired,
that's when you don't think anymore.

- RICO: ...one, yay!
Great job!

Great job, there we go.

Free throws, P.

- So, that's what crazy's,
your goal of a workout is to get tired

and then sh**t to see if you can still
get those shots when you're tired.

My goal is not to get tired.

Oh-oh.

- MAN: Cash out.
- LOLO: That's off.

- RICO: There you go.
- LOLO: No!

Free throw's are hard after you're tired!

[chuckles]

-RICO: That's the whole point.
-LOLO: I know.

My goal as a track athlete
is to be fully rested

so that I have more power
to just be the fastest.

- RICO: There you go.
Cash at me... Boom! Yes.

- MAN: All right.

- So, here's what we're gonna do.
We're gonna do Pick and Roll series.

So, you're gonna come set a pick on me.

Right, right here. Boom!

Now, role to the basket.
He going to hit you.

MAN: Go on, baby.

[all cheering]

Then you gotta give
your teammate a high five! You gotta go...

- We don't do that in tracks.
- You don't do that?

- No, we don't do high-fives in tracks.
- Why not?

- What? When would
there ever be a need to high-five?

- I mean, I don't know,
you got no team or nothing?

- No, I give high-fives to myself.

- I mean... That's true, though.
I forgot about that.

- RICO: You ready to play some defense?
- LOLO: Yeah.

[indistinct chatter]

I mean, I was so impressed
by just how it's non-stop.

[all cheering]

Did I make it?

I can't wait to show you the track world

because you're gonna love it.
There's a lot of rest.

- A lot of rest, OK?
- There's a lot of rest.

[grunts]

- Show him how it's done, Lo.
That's a good pull over there.

- He's definitely got a good extension
on his knees.

- That's because he's like ten-feet-tall.

- No, that's not why.
- That's a cheat.

- That's true, that's a good point.

JAMAL: All right, guys,
when you run track,

The core is probably the biggest part
of any race, right, Lo?

So, we gotta get some core going.

LOLO: I had to increase my core strength
to center me.

It can be sometimes hard
if you don't have it.

But, for me,
that's why I have always centered myself

so that I have more, you know,
power, speed to go.

- JAMAL: What we're going to do
is take the medicine ball,

hand it to each other
and pass it right back,

- I'mma go done with it.
- all right?

Let's get 10 on each side, guys,

- So, remember when I
broke your hand on the basketball?

- Right.
- This is why.

- Not on my face!
- JAMAL: Hey, man!

- Karma is a b*tch, huh?

- My bad, my bad, my bad!

- I need this face to model, OK?
- All right, my bad, my bad.

- In case track doesn't work out.
- OK, my bad.

JAMAL: There we go.

Good, get a good rotation.

You gunning it!
- Yeah, keep going.

It's getting slower over there.

LOLO: People talk trash at your games.

Track is like tennis, like, no...

- For real? That's crazy!

- Track runners are so insane,
even if a track runner said, "Hi!",

that could actually be
taken as disrespect.

- Wow.

- All right, guys, so,
just like any professional athlete,

we want to get a nice lift in, OK?

We're gonna start with some power cleans,
all right? So, we're gonna go six.

Nice! Good!

Make sure you touch that ground, good!

- PASCAL: Oh, my God!
- She's k*lling you!

- I know.
- She's almost there!

- I'm a basketball player, I just hoop.
I don't lift.

We don't need this to play.

- LOLO: As a track athlete,
I focus on myself.

I've never talked to somebody
getting in to the blocks.

They've never talked to me.

JAMAL: As soon as you're done, Lolo,
right on to your bench.

LOLO: You're running against them

but at the end of the day,
you're running against yourself.

JAMAL: Lo, I've got you clocked,

you've got about 20 seconds left, Pascal,
you've got 30.

- You're running against a clock,
so no matter, if you get beat,

you don't get beat, like, the clock's
gonna beat everybody, you know.

- JAMAL: Nice! Big press, big press. Good.

- In basketball, you're making
a million different decisions,

and reactions and...
- There are a lot of things going on.

- I'm just out there in the zone,
it's just, it's completely different.

- So, we're at the last part
of the work out.

It's more total body.
Less weights, but more expl*sive.

We're gonna take this medicine ball

and we're throwing it right into the wall
for 10 reps.

Whenever you're ready.

- LOLO:
I think what I take away from all of this

is that when you train
in different sports,

it shines a light on your weaknesses
in your specific sport.

- JAMAL: Good rotation,
use your core, not your arm.

- LOLO: I chose the right sport
because you go non-stop.

-RICO: ...pass!

- That was great!
- Thank you.

- And I like my track practices,

even though we don't have fun playing
basketball.

I like that, you know, three
to ten minute rest I get after every,

kind of, session.
- Right, right, right.

- So, that's really nice for me.

- Last one, we're just gonna go
double arm. Three, two, one, go!

- For me, I thought it was fun,
you know, I think, getting from you...

being able to focus on things, I mean,
that's something that's gonna help me.

Not always being all over the place,

and kinda having that laser-focus
when you need to.

- I think we learned from each other.

- Hanging out with a champion,
it's gonna rub off a little bit.

- Look, I'm already a three-time
world champ, baby, so, nice try.

- ...four, three, two, we're all done!

Good work, Lo!
Good work, Pas!

- Cool, so high five.
- High five, last one of the day.

I mean, you're not gonna get it anymore,

but you can get one more.
- The last one?

[both laughing]
