01x07 - Grandmother Tells a Story/Grandmother Loses her Crown

Post by bunniefuu »

Would a shrieking spider hawk have eight wings or eight talons?

What do you think, Xandra?

Xandra?

Wolfy, I can't decide which leaves to bring.

Can you help?

This one? This one? This one? This one?

This one? This one? This one? This one?

This one?

It's an impossible choice. Why don't you take both?

What a good idea.

Are you okay, Xandra?

What are you looking at?

Wow. Are those your parents? Can I see?

There's nothing to see.

-Sprout, are you ready to go yet? -Almost.

Sprout, aren't there any leaves at your parents' house?

Of course. There's green ones and red ones and yellow ones--

And little baby ones.

You see, every Elderspryte Day, we hang up all the prettiest leaves,

and then we sing songs and play games, and Grandmother tells stories.

That sounds amazing.

Wolfy, you should come home for Elderspryte Day with us.

Wow, really? Are you sure your parents won't mind?

Of course not. You'll be one of the family.

Just like Xandra.

So, what is Elderspryte Day, exactly?

Everyone has their own traditions, but it's a day when every spryte goes home

and celebrates the oldest spryte in their family.

-That must be hard for you. -What? Why?

The Figworts are my family.

Come on, Sprout.

They'll be worried if we're late.

I can't wait for you to meet everyone, Wolfy.

Mum, Dad, Grandmother…

You already met Flora.

There's Ivy, and there's Clover,

Shrub, Violet, Petal, Juniper, Rooty, Azalea,

Aunt Wisteria, she's a hoot.

And then there's Hoot, my cousin.

-And my other cousin-- -There it is.

Figwort Farm.

I bet we'll get there quicker if we cut through these bushes.

Never leave the path!

Never leave the path.

Sorry. It's nice and safe on the path.

-Grandmother! -Sprout, dear.

It's so good to see you.

And Xandra. Get over here and give your grandmother a hug.

Grandmother, this is our friend Wolfboy.

Happy Elderspryte Day.

It's tomorrow, dear. But I'll take it.

Don't worry, everyone. It's just Sprout.

You can all come out.

-Thank goodness. -Sprout! Great to see you!

Sprouty!

How do you do? I'm Sprout's mum.

Nice to meet you, Mrs. Figwort.

Hush now. You must call me Perennia.

Now, girls, girls!

Your poor brother's had a long trip.

How many sisters does Sprout have?

Twenty-three.

Twenty-four.

Bud Figwort. Welcome to Figwort Farm.

Right. Come on, come on. Let's troddle in and get you all fed.

You're so lucky to have such a big family.

It was always just me and Mum and--

I didn't mean lucky…

No, it's okay. I am lucky. I…

I gotta go unpack.

I hope I didn't upset her.

I think she's okay.

Elderspryte Day is always kinda tough for her.

She never talks about her parents, does she?

Not really. Not even with me.

I hope she knows that she could talk to us if she wanted to.

Hi there.

I'm Juniper.

Wanna see my bug collection?

Hey! He's my friend, Juniper.

Hi, Flora.

How do you know Flora? She doesn't even have any bugs.

We met in the woods, battling disarrays.

Doing what?

Disarrays?

I think you're remembering that wrong, Wolfboy.

I'm sorry, Xandra.

I didn't mean to leave you out. You were brave too.

No, no. That was all you, Wolfy.

Sprout and I know better than to mess with disarrays.

I should jolly well think so too.

"Run, run, run away"…

"So you can run away another day."

Run away?

Sprout, haven't you taught your friend any of our family mottoes?

Well, I did tell him to stay on the path.

Well, yes, that's a classic.

I know! "Get inside, it's time to hide."

Good one, June.

"If in danger at all, curl into a ball."

Now we're cooking.

Hey, why did you say I was the only one who battled the disarrays?

You two were brave as well.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I didn't want Sprout to get in trouble.

The Figworts take their family mottoes very seriously.

But it's like they think being brave is a bad thing.

That's the Figwort way.

But you don't believe that.

You're the bravest spryte I know.

Look, I don't want the Figworts to worry about me.

They've already done so much.

But that's not who you are.

You're going to be a legendary guardian spryte one day,

just like your parents.

Look, I'm sorry.

I know you don't like talking about them. But I want you to know you can trust me.

If you do ever wanna talk, well, I'm here.

Okay, settle down, Figworts.

It's time for Grandmother's Elderspryte Eve story.

So exciting. Favorite time.

Shh, everyone.

I'm so happy to see all of your smiling faces.

And I know Grandfather Figwort

would be so proud of how our family has grown.

Grandpa Figwort.

What story would you like to hear this year?

The Petrified Petal!

-Horrified Hydrangea. -Timid Tulip.

-The Fearful Fern. -Meek Myrtle's Misadventures.

-The Ladybug Who Lied! -The Tale of the Cowardly Crocus.

The Fearful Fern!

I'd like to request a story.

Of course, dear.

What'll it be?

I'd like to hear

the story of the Great Betrayal.

No, Xandra, no.

-I can't believe it. -Xandra's gonna--

Hush now.

Good choice, Xandra.

A decade ago, the world was in turmoil.

The wicked disarrays were growing more dangerous and destructive by the day.

Their chaotic ways threatened the very existence of the world

we sprytes worked so hard to create.

Rather than lose hope,

brave guardian sprytes, like Xandra's parents,

stepped up to save us.

They led the charge in a heroic attempt to rid the world of disarrays for good.

The guardians fought valiantly for all those who could not fight.

They used every ounce of their strength to push the disarrays back.

But just when they were on the brink of victory,

they were betrayed

by a spryte named Nyx.

Nyx!

Nyx's might was only matched by her malice.

She fought with the disarrays against her own kind.

Her treachery turned the tide of the battle,

and the disarrays escaped.

The w*r was won.

And Nyx was banished for her crimes, imprisoned forever in the disarray realm.

But the damage was done.

Two very brave sprytes were lost that day.

I hate to say it, but--

I know.

"If guardians lived like Figworts, there would be a lot more guardians around."

No, no.

Actually, I was going to say it's bedtime.

You heard him, off to bed.

But don't forget to give your grandmother a hug and a kiss.

Xandra, you can go first, sweetheart.

Thank you for the story, Grandmother.

You know what I think?

If guardians lived like Figworts, there would be a lot fewer Figworts.

I'm sorry. I can come back later.

I really miss them sometimes.

All the time, actually.

I bet they're really proud of you.

You must have some great stories about them.

I do know a good one.

Once, when they were on patrol in the darkest corner of the Factory,

they were ambushed by a pack of hungry scrawmongers.

Scrawmongers? What are they?

They're the worst kind of disarray.

Gnashing teeth, eyes that bore right into your soul.

But my parents, they weren't afraid one bit.

Wow. They were so brave.

Yeah.

My parents weren't afraid of anything.

-Excuse me! -It's my turn!

-No! -Mum!

-Give me that! -Mum!

-Make me a biscuit! -Mum!

Mum?

-Mum! -I wanna see that.

Excuse me!

Make me a biscuit!

-Does anyone want to play? -Who ate all the blue mash?

Everybody ready?

One, two, three, go!

And the small fleet set sail across the treacherous sea.

Beneath the surface lurk sea dragons

and octopuses and krakens of the worst kind.

You're really good at making stuff.

I would be if I knew how I was doing it.

What's that, Xandra? You need help? Be right there.

You need help?

I don't need help.

Easy does it. Easy does it. Just don't look down.

Can I help?

Let's leave the aerial stunts to the daredevils, shall we?

Besides, that's much too scary for you, Sprout.

Oh, Sprout.

Be sure you roll out the mud nice and flat.

Do you need any help with the mud dumplings?

Thanks, Sprout. We've got all the help we need.

You know, Grandmother asked about her crown.

Oh, dear. She's lost her crown again?

I bet your father hid it away.

He's always worried it'll attract the you-know-what.

Look what we made.

It's a very special Elderspryte Day decoration for you, Grandmother Figwort.

Thank you, dear.

Look at me. I'm finally starting to look festive.

But there's one thing missing.

My crown.

I can't believe it. I thought it was lost.

It was, but I found it.

Thank you, Sprout.

Elderspryte Day wouldn't be the same without it.

-Is it a special crown? -Very special indeed.

It's made from rare flowers that only grow out in the bogmarsh.

That's way off the path.

Cypress, my late husband, he was quite the risk-taker.

He snuck out into the bogmarsh to find the flowers,

and then he wove them together himself.

That was how he won my heart.

That's a lovely story.

Not everyone thinks so.

Good, you've found your crown.

I was worried that no one would be able to find it this time.

Reckless spryte, my father,

stomping around in the marsh like that, off the path.

He was lucky to make it out alive.

As for making a crown out of the bogmarsh beast's favorite flowers--

The bogmarsh beast?

What's it look like? How big is it? How many rows of teeth does it have?

Let's go find it.

Hey, are those mud dumplings I smell?

Oh, my Cypress.

There's never been a Figwort quite like him.

What are you up to, Juniper?

I'm making a hero's badge

for Wolfboy.

Is she always like this?

Well, she's never made me a badge,

but I guess I'm not special like you.

What was that?

The bogmarsh beast!

That's the bogmarsh beast?

It's smaller than I thought it would be.

-Run, run, run away to live! -Sprout, wait.

Run, run, run away!

Remember your training.

Everyone to the house tree.

Shoo, shoo, you nasty beast.

Grandmother!

My crown!

Stop right there, beast.

Xandra, come inside. It's time to hide.

We have to surround it.

-Trip it with your vines, Sprout. -What?

-Curl up in a ball. -Who?

-Make yourself big to scare it. -When?

Curl up in a ball!

Sprout!

Mummy's little Sproutling.

You did good. You're no match for that beast.

Are you all right?

You'll get him next time.

No, she's right.

Maybe you or Xandra could have stopped it, but not me.

Poor Sprout.

I just wish there was something we could do.

Let me guess. You've got some cunning plan to help him.

Of course I've got a cunning plan to help him.

And this particular plan calls for a game of hide-and-seek.

Wow!

I've never been the seeker before. How high should I count?

Maybe you should just list all your cousins again.

Okay.

Dahlia, Iris, Violet, Tulip, Barkly,

Shrub, Myrtle, Petal, Daisy.

You guys are terrible hiders.

Hold on. We're not in the yard.

We're not even on the path.

This is the bogmarsh.

I'm sorry we surprised you,

-but Xandra and I-- -Mostly you.

We thought it might cheer you up

if we brought you out here to collect those rare flowers.

And we can make a new crown for your grandmother.

That's a nice idea,

but I should get back to the path.

I'm no Grandpa Cypress.

No, you are brave, Sprout.

You are Sprout, the tamer of explodeling rabbits.

Master of the memory mites.

Okay, I'll come and make sure you two are safe.

And then I'm going back.

The red flowers mean we're near the water.

And those vines only grow near the muddiest bogs.

Which means we're in the right place.

Look! There they are.

Sprout?

Bogmarsh beast!

Run for the trees!

It still has Grandmother's crown.

Okay. Xandra, you go round the right.

And, Sprout--

Sprout, come on. We can still rescue the crown.

What? No! Don't go near it.

Nonsense. Come on, Xandra, charge!

No! Wait! You have to watch out for the…

marsh mud.

Oh, no. No, no.

What? That's not fair.

How come he doesn't sink?

Stay back. Stay back.

Leave my friends alone.

Wouldn't you rather have some nice, fresh flowers?

Sprout,

that was the bravest thing I've ever seen.

I wasn't brave. I was scared.

-But you didn't let that stop you. -That's what being brave is.

Hooray for Sprout! He conquered the bogmarsh beast!

Hip, hip, hooray! Sprout conquered the bogmarsh beast.

Hooray for Sprout. Huzzah!

Look what we found.

By my roots and leaves.

How did you do it, Sprout?

We went to the bogmarsh.

Sprout.

Of all the reckless, foolhardy, silly things--

Mum.

Oh, no, you're getting a lot of hugs for this, mister.

Ease off the boy.

Grandmother wants a hug too.

Thank you, darling.

You're just like your grandfather.

I thought this was for Wolfboy.

It's okay.

I'll make him another one.
