(light static whirring)

(indistinct eerie whispering)

(heavy footsteps)

(light clattering)

(door clicks open)

(door sliding open)

(quiet clattering)

(footsteps fading)

(loud clattering)

(man screaming)

(woman screaming)

(loud crashing)

[Jill] Help me!

(woman screaming)

(loud crashing)

(screaming stops abruptly)

(heavy footsteps)

(door clicking open)

(heavy footsteps)

(light static whirring)

(distant train horn blaring)

(phone clattering)

(Ryan sighs)

(pills rattling in bottle)

(Ryan grimaces)

Mom, it's Ryan.

I just watched that security

footage from Jill's.

Yeah.

Did the police send that to you?

Oh, the security company,

they sent it directly to you?

Wow.

The police gotta have

it too then, I guess.

Yeah, well, hopefully that's

just what they're telling us.

I mean, they gotta be

able to solve it now.

The whole thing's on...

It's on tape, right?

No, I'm heading down there now.

I'll be there...

Check in's at noon,

I think they said.

Answer it.

Answer it, yeah.

I'll call you when I get there.

All right.

I'll call you when

I get there, I will.

All right. Love you.

Bye.

Jack, it's Ryan Graph.

Yeah, I'm on the road now,

about an hour from Raven.

Okay, so what, you'll

be there around 1:00?

(quiet shuffling)

[Receptionist] Hey,

how we doing today?

[Ryan] Hey, how's it going?

I'm checking in

for a few nights.

[Receptionist] All

right. Last name?

[Ryan] Graph. Ryan Graph.

[Receptionist] Looks like

we've got you at room 103.

[Ryan] Okay.

[Receptionist] The sink's

got small leak going on,

our maintenance guys is

gonna be stopping around.

(door whines open)

(knocking on door)

(loud shuffling)

[Jack] Ryan?

Jack, it's good to

see you in person.

Good to be seen.

Oh, come in please.

Can I get you

something to drink?

Water? Coffee?

Coffee would be great, thanks.

I also have a camera

rolling right now.

I hope it's all right.

Why?

Oh, well, I'm kind

of filming everything

about the case right now.

I figure I might find

some new information

to bring to the media

or, I don't know,

something to put some

pressure on the police

to solve this thing.

Not a bad idea.

I really appreciate you

jumping on board with this.

The police haven't

given us any information

and I knew I couldn't just

sit around and do nothing.

Yeah, I've been rereading

that for the 10th time

trying to see if

I missed anything.

Thanks.

That security footage from

your sister's house was...

Interesting.

When was the last

time you spoke to her?

Probably about a week

before all this happened.

Right around New Year's.

She mentioned something

about finding a broken clock

on her front porch.

A clock? What do you mean?

Yeah, I don't know,

she just said something

about finding a broken

clock on her front porch.

I didn't really think

much of it at the time,

but I mean, now it

kind of stands out.

Where's this clock now?

I don't know.

I told the police.

They probably took it.

Tell me a little bit

about your sister.

Well, she's my older sister.

Four years older.

She was a fifth grade

history teacher.

And we're both from upstate

New York originally,

but her husband, Brad,

he got a good job

with his union

about two years ago

and they moved

down to Raven then.

Okay.

And how long were they married?

Three years.

Any crazy exes? Either of them?

I mean, married

together for six years,

so exes aren't really in

the picture at this point.

And do you know if they

lived a swinger lifestyle

or were involved in

any drug activity?

Nothing in their lifestyle

would've led to

anything like this,

that's why it's so baffling.

Sorry, this is all

just kind of...

It's kind of too familiar.

My dad, when Jill

and I were both kids,

he was k*lled on duty.

On duty?

Yeah.

He was a homicide

detective for the NYPD.

He was investigating some case

and he was k*lled by a

drugged out homeless guy

in an abandoned house.

Hmm. What was your dad's name?

Samuel Graph.

I mean, it destroyed my mom.

She wouldn't even go to

the morgue to see his body.

And then her daughter.

(loud clapping)

Anyway, I'm in town

for the next four days,

so I'm gonna be looking

into this as well.

Oh, wait.

Hey, I told you on the

phone that I work alone.

Yeah, no, I know.

You mentioned that.

I mean, this is extremely

personal for me.

I mean, this is my sister.

Listen.

I get it, but personal is

the last thing you want

in something like this.

I'll double the

rate we agreed on.

[Jack] So you're

just gonna have to

stay outta the way on this,

do your filming from a distance.

Did you just get that camera?

[Ryan] No, I own a small

production company up in New York

doing commercials, mainly.

I get it from my dad, I guess.

He used to film everything.

[Jack] I'm surprised the

police aren't guarding this.

[Ryan] That's Jill's car.

[Jack] Well, we'll

take a look around,

but we gotta be quick.

[Ryan] God.

It's eerie just being here.

I can't believe my sister's

house is a crime scene.

Okay, be careful

where you're stepping.

We can't go inside in case

forensics isn't finished.

[Ryan] Oh, God.

(leaves rustling)

(Ryan exhales shakily)

Hey, man.

As a kid, Jill loved snowmen,

and the Christmas

right before he died,

my dad got her this

stuffed snowman doll.

And she still sleeps with it!

Sorry, I mean, slept

with it every night.

I hope the police find that.

So the person went in through

the sliding glass door,

looking through

the kitchen window.

And then headed back

that way on foot,

which means either they

parked nearby and walked

or they live within

walking distance.

[Ryan] The train was heard

not very long after they left.

I mean, that can't

be a coincidence.

The only thing that makes

sense to me right now

is this being completely random.

Some dr*fter-

We got a boot print.

Could be one of the police.

It doesn't look like

a police boot to me.

[Ryan] What do you have?

Blood.

(leaves rustling)

Hey! You can't be here.

Didn't you see the caution tape?

It's an active crime scene,

I need you to head

back to your vehicle.

[Ryan] Sorry, officer.

This was my sister's house,

I just wanted to be

able to see the place.

It doesn't matter, you

gotta head out here.

I understand what you're saying

and I'm sorry for your loss,

but it's an active crime

scene, you have to leave.

[Ryan] Did you guys

collect that boot print

in the yard over there?

-Sir.

Sir, you guys need to leave.

[Jack] Hey, Ryan,

I'll be in the car.

[Ryan] Look man,

my sister's funeral

is on Tuesday and we still

can't even make sense

of what even the

f*ck happened here.

Look, I can give you

my supervisor's number,

but after that,

you have to leave.

Yeah, hi, my name is Ryan Graph.

I'm the brother of Jill Dockson,

who was k*lled at our house

on Hilltop Drive

back on January 8th.

I just talked to

one of your deputies

at the house, actually,

and I was calling to see if

I could schedule a meeting

to see where you guys are

at in this investigation.

Wait, sorry, they've

taken the case over now?

He says the feds have

taken over the case.

Wouldn't tell me anything else.

I'm still in contact

with a few guys in there.

I'll see what I can find out.

(footsteps crunching

over stones)

This is likely

where the train was

that we heard on the

surveillance video.

Now, whether or not

the train is connected

or if the suspect even

came this way is...

I can't be sure.

[Ryan] If it isn't connected,

he could have gone

anywhere from here.

I'll check the logs

from that night

to see which way the

train was coming from

and where it was going.

(metal dinging)

(train whirring past loudly)

[Weather Reporter]

There'll be a few showers

around as well.

Getting showers in tonight

followed by mainly cloudy skies.

(door slams shut)

(loud shuffling of coat)

(entry bell dings)

[Jack] Hey, my name's Jack.

Hey, I'm an investigator

looking into

that double m*rder over on

Hilltop Drive back on the 8th?

[Clerk] Yeah, that was terrible.

-Yeah.

-It's got all of us

on edge right now.

I don't blame you.

I noticed you have

security cameras

on the side of the building.

Do you happen to have any

footage from that night?

The fact that the police

didn't pick that up already

makes no sense whatsoever

at this point of

the investigation.

Unless they didn't need it.

Would've been closer to 4:00.

[Ryan] All right,

let's try this one.

-There they're at.

-sh*t.

[Jack] So he went

over the train tracks.

So the train wasn't involved.

So that store is over a

mile to your sister's house

and basically a straight line.

So if he walked that far,

he walked the whole way.

[Ryan] What are you saying?

We've got a starting point.

(footsteps on wood)

(birds squawking)

(footsteps on wood)

[Ryan] Are you thinking

he came down here?

So if he's staying in the same

trajectory from the store,

this is where it ends.

He certainly didn't cross this.

He's somewhere between here

and the convenience store.

He's still here.

Here you go.

I'm gonna see if I can find out

how many were

purchased in this area

in the last three months.

Looks very similar.

I'm gonna drop you

back off of your room

and get a jump on this.

[Ryan] What time are

we meeting up tomorrow?

Let's do 10:00.

Gotta make some

calls in the morning.

(Ryan sighs)

(papers shuffling)

(notification dings)

(camera clattering)

"Hey there, my name

is Marcus Langford."

I'm in Maine.

I saw your post

about what happened

to your sister and her husband,

truly sorry about your loss.

My brother, Ethan, was

k*lled back in 2009

while house sitting,

and I attached a video

that was found on his

phone after his m*rder.

His case is still unsolved.

"Hard to believe

these are connected."

Huh.

All right, I'll bite.

It's the third time in the

night this has happened.

My alarm keeps going off.

Yeah, these dickheads

are messing with me.

For sure.

(keys jingling)

(car alarm blaring)

Too alive for this sh*t, man.

(car alarm blaring)

Come on, man. Where

you at, Chris?

I know you ain't putting

your grubby a*s hands

on my brand new car.

You were supposed to be here

with the food an hour ago.

Where the did he

even park his car at?

(thunder rumbling)

These f*ck are

always trying to scam me

while I'm out here house

sitting in the sticks.

Come on, guys. Where you at?

I'm going back in

to hop on the game.

What the?

Come on, dude. Really?

They're gonna be

home in 40 minutes,

I gotta clean this sh*t up now.

Dude, you can come out now.

I gotta clean up this

mess you just made.

(heavy footsteps on stairs)

If I was a vacuum,

where would I be?

(thunder rumbling)

Ah, there you are.

Chris?

(door slams shut)

Chris?

(Ethan breathing shakily)

What the f*ck?

I'm gonna open this door and

kick you in the d*ck, Chris.

(thunder rumbling)

(Ethan yelps in surprise)

(pot plant clattering)

(Ethan breathing raggedly)

f*ck this.

Hey, did you get that video

I sent you last night?

I did. I don't think it's real.

Watch what you're

posting online.

We should investigate

every possibility.

The guy who did it, he

could be jumping states

like that serial k*ller up

in Alaska a few years back.

I was able to clear both exes,

and that blueprint we

found in your sister's yard

was a work boot

from 1922, this one.

f*ck.

[Jack] And I found this.

[Ryan] What is this?

[Jack] In 1997, an

almost exact m*rder

took place in this house

at a town near here

called Briarwick.

[Ryan] God, that's where my

sister's funerals gonna be.

[Jill] This man, Garrett Benson,

broke into that house in

the middle of the night

through a sliding glass door

and stabbed a woman

to death in her sleep.

[Ryan] Wait, what are

you saying? He did it?

No, he couldn't

have. He's in prison.

This was the lead detective

on that case, Joe Rhodes.

And he was m*rder*d

in his hunting cabin

in North Carolina three months

later in a similar fashion.

And Garrett Benson was

convicted of that m*rder also.

[Ryan] What does that mean?

It might not mean anything,

but if we can figure out how

he pulled off those murders,

which way he traveled,

how he chose that victim,

get inside of his

mind a little bit,

it might give us some insight

into who we're looking for.

You're not gonna try to

take that in, are you?

[Ryan] I mean, who knows

what this guy's about to say?

He could have some

important information.

Well, you're gonna

have to keep it hidden.

I'll do the talking.

Garrett Benson?

[Garrett] Who are you guys?

[Jack] I'm Jack, this is Ryan.

We're looking into a m*rder

that took place over in Raven,

we were hoping you could

answer the questions for us.

Well, I'm already in here

for two murders I didn't do,

so I can assure you I

didn't do that one either.

[Jill] No, I'm not

saying that you did,

it's just that this

was eerily similar

to the ones you

were convicted of.

So we just thought

that maybe you could

answer some questions.

-It is?

Well, then it could be the

same guy, where exactly

did this happen?

-What made you choose

this house?

I didn't choose anything.

I've never even been to

that house or that town.

But look, if there's

a similar m*rder,

this could clear my name.

[Jill] Look, we're

not here to clear-

Well, I was a homeless

19-year-old addicted to heroin.

I had no money, no car, nothing.

How was I supposed

to be traveling up

and down the East Coast

committing murders?

[Jack] Look, I don't know

enough about your cases.

The prosecution showed

that there was $3,500

in that woman's purse on

the dresser by the bed.

A broke heroin junkie

wouldn't have at least

checked that purse?

Look, I didn't do those murders,

but maybe the person who did

also did the one

you're looking into.

[Jack] I'll tell you what.

If you answer some

questions for us,

I'll put $50 on your books

and put a good word

in with a warden.

What do you say?

You fellas have a nice day.

Well, that didn't

get us anywhere.

[Ryan] What if he's

telling the truth?

Maybe it is the same

k*ller in all these cases.

They're all innocent

if you ask them.

(papers rustling)

We got a hit on the umbrella.

[Ryan] Who?

A guy named Clayton Bailey

purchased one two months ago.

He lives just outside of Raven.

[Ryan] Well, that's it, right?

That that's gotta be our guy.

Well, not necessarily,

but it can't be ignored.

Yeah. 302.

[Ryan] You sure

that's the house?

You gotta be patient

situations like this.

I've sat on one of these

for more than 10 hours

before seeing any movement.

[Ryan] Well, I mean,

I don't mind waiting,

but what do you do when

you gotta take a piss?

There's a plastic

container behind my seat.

(car rumbling)

[Ryan] So what's the plan here?

Are we just

following him around?

[Jack] Just watching

his movements.

Getting eyes on him.

[Ryan] Shouldn't we

be, I don't know,

questioning him or something?

[Jack] Keep the camera down.

[Ryan] So what do you know

about this guy so far?

Any connection to Jill or Brad?

Any criminal history?

Yeah, all we know for sure

is that he purchased an umbrella

similar to the one that

we saw in the footage.

I'm doing a background

check as we speak.

Here he comes.

-Huh.

-What?

Well, he was pushing the cart

with his left hand

going in the store,

now he's pushing

it with his right.

[Ryan] What does that mean?

Well, when the suspect

entered your sister's house,

he was holding the

knife with his left hand

and he was holding it with

his right when he was exiting.

Flowers

(car rumbling)

[Ryan] What? He's pulling

into the cemetery.

What are you doing?

Follow him, man.

We gotta keep our distance.

We don't wanna spook him.

[Ryan] I mean, what if he's

hiding evidence or something?

He's already got a

two-week head start on us.

Okay, you know what?

You get the footage you need

and I'll do the investigation.

Nothing that sets

off any red flags.

Just a couple small items I'm

gonna send in for analysis.

[Ryan] Who is this guy?

He's the medical examiner

that did the autopsies.

There he is.

All right, you stay here.

How you doing, sir?

My name is Jack, I'm a detective

looking into the murders

that took place over

on Hilltop Drive.

Yeah?

I understand that

you did the autopsies

on both those victims.

I'm sorry, who are you with?

I was hired by the family.

I'm sorry, I can't-

Listen, I'm just

looking for something

that would make a

suspect stand out.

Maybe they switched

hands during the attack,

something like that.

I released my examination

to the authorities

in charge of the case.

I can't really

speak on any of it.

Sorry.

I really can't

speak on any of it.

Mr. Lemons, this is

a grieving family

that just wants some answers,

some closure, please.

(Mr. Lemons stammers)

There was a...

Please.

(Mr. Lemons breaths nervously)

There there was a symbol

carved into their foreheads.

A symbol? What did it look like?

Like that.

Now, you never

talked to me, okay?

[Ryan] What type of sick

m*therf*cker did this?

What does this even mean?

[Jack] I'm gonna call it a day.

I got a lot to sort out.

Yeah, he said they had

a weird symbol carved

into their heads.

Yeah, no, I know.

I know, I know, I know.

But I think we've gotta be

able to hear stuff like this

if we really wanna

solve this, right?

This whole thing just keeps on

getting weirder and weirder,

but hopefully the pieces

are starting to

fall into place now.

You talk to Brad's family yet?

Yeah.

Yeah, I bet.

We all just want

answers right now.

(knocking on door)

Oh, God. (sighs)

(knocking on door)

(camera rustling)

(quiet music playing outside)

Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

Rain, rain, go away

Come again-

(loud thwack)

(loud music playing in room)

Rain, rain, go away

[Ryan] Hello?

Somebody in here?

Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

(Ryan breathing heavily)

Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

(door slams shut)

f*ck. (whispers)

f*ck, it's locked.

Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

(light switch clicks on)

Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

(upbeat music)

Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

What? Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day

(loud music from radio)

(music stops) (switch clicks)

(knocking on door) (Ryan

breaths unsteadily)

(light flicks off quietly)

[Ryan] Who's in

here? Who's in here?

(Ryan breathing unsteadily)

How did this turn off?

(light switch flicks)

(Ryan yells)

(Ryan breathing unsteadily)

(music playing in bathroom)

Jack. Yeah, sorry.

Sorry it's so late.

I just saw the f*cking guy

in the room next to mine.

No, I don't know.

He was standing. I

saw him in the mirror.

I heard some

banging on the wall.

It was some weird

old-timey music playing.

Sorry, what?

What about the symbol?

Like what?

Okay. Yeah, I'm coming to you.

Red Lounge Inn, right?

Yeah, okay.

All right, I'll be

there in 15 minutes.

(Ryan breathing shakily)

(knocking on door)

Come on. Come on.

(Ryan breathing shakily)

Jack, I'm telling you.

I saw him, he was right there.

He was in the room

next to mine, man.

-Calm down.

-I got it all on tape.

Actually.

I can f*cking show you.

Wait, sorry.

You were saying (stammering)

When you on the phone, you said

something about the symbol.

What'd you find?

-Just relax. Take a breath.

Can I get you some

water? Some scotch?

[Ryan] You have both, actually.

[Jack] All right.

I mean, what if this

guy's after me now?

We gotta figure out who

the f*ck this guy is.

[Jack] Stay right there.

I'll be right back.

f*ck.

(Ryan breathing shakily)

What?

What's all this?

Jack, what is all this?

[Jack] Yeah, I think

I'm onto something.

[Ryan] What is it?

You're gonna want this.

So that symbol that was carved

into the victims' foreheads

is from the occult.

It's called the

Mark of Mourning.

M-O-U-R mourning.

And it symbolizes a bad omen.

And as I started

looking into it,

I found a few coincidences.

-Like what?

-That is an illustration

from the 1800s.

They call him Mr. Mourning.

Looks familiar, doesn't it?

The mythology of Mr. Mourning

says it kills every 13 years

carving that symbol into

its victim's foreheads.

It kills to...

Well, to collect the mourning

of its victims' families.

Supposedly it places

a curse on its victims

before k*lling them, which

could explain the whispering.

And the killings only take

place when it's raining.

Sometimes before,

sometimes after,

but always in the midst of rain.

And it was raining the night

of your sister's m*rder.

In some versions,

it places an omen of something

bad on the victims before,

leading up to the killings,

and could explain the

clock that your sister-

[Ryan] Wait, I'm sorry.

What are you saying?

You're saying my sister was

k*lled by some mythical being?

No.

No, of course not.

It's just that we might

be dealing with a copycat.

It could be that Garrett

Benson was telling the truth

when he said he didn't

commit those murders.

[Ryan] Wait, but it kills

every 13 years, right?

Or so you say.

But the murders he's convicted

of, they were 13 years apart.

And Jill and Brad's m*rder.

I mean, that was, what, 17

years after the last one?

I mean, it doesn't

line up at all.

And what is all this

about 13 years anyway?

Well, it it all revolves

around bad omens,

bad luck, like the number 13.

And you're right, the

years don't line up.

It could be that

whoever's doing this

isn't following the

mythology precisely.

Is this really all

you've uncovered?

I mean, that symbol,

this could be anything.

It could have been

a slip of the knife.

I think we gotta focus on

this Clayton Bailey guy.

Okay.

In an investigation like

this, there's no coincidences.

I wouldn't be doing my job

if I didn't investigate

all of this.

And we're still focused

on Clayton Bailey,

this just adds another

layer to it all.

I just don't wanna waste

time chasing fairytales.

You think I do?

Why my sister though?

Well, that's what

we gotta find out.

So I looked a little

deeper into this mythology

after you fell

asleep last night.

It said that Mr. Mourning

lingers in nearby cemeteries

after the killings,

sometimes for weeks.

Clayton Bailey could

have been imitating

that part of the mythology

when he was here yesterday.

[Ryan] Why cemeteries?

[Jack] What else would

something that feeds

on the mourning

of others linger?

[Ryan] I still don't

understand why this guy

would be copying this mythology.

This whole Mr. Mourning thing,

it feels a little

farfetched to me.

It's a lot of ground to cover.

We should probably split up.

[Ryan] Okay.

What should I be looking for?

Anything that

looks out of place.

(birds chirping distantly)

(light footsteps)

(light footsteps)

(footsteps on wood)

[Ryan] Oh, sh*t!

Jack!

Jack, where are you!

I got something!

Jack!

(Ryan breathing heavily)

Okay, listen, from now on,

let me know when you find

something before you touch it.

That tape is useless now when

it comes to fingerprints.

Yeah, sorry. Sorry, man.

My sister kept all

of our old VHS tapes

from when we were kids,

and if this is one

of those tapes...

(Ryan exhales shakily)

(plastic rattling)

It is about to play.

[Jill] Ryan, come on in with me!

This sled's gonna go without ya!

No f*cking way.

-Go ahead, Jill.

-What?

-That's Jill.

-Where's Ryan?

[Jack] What?

Ryan, I'm gonna go without ya!

[Ryan] She's calling for me.

What the f*ck?

That's our old house,

back on Barney Road.

[Jack] And you have

no idea how this

ended up in the cemetery?

[Ryan] I have no

f*cking idea, man.

(children laughing)

[Jack] What the hell?

Come on, let's try it

again. That was fun.

[Jack] Is that...

[Ryan] What the f*ck?

(Ryan breaths shakily)

What the f*ck.

I'm not so sure we're dealing

with a copycat anymore.

Well, how does this

guy, Clayton Bailey,

tie into all this?

He doesn't. That's what

I was on the phone about.

He was out of town when

your sister was m*rder*d.

Wait...

So what, us finding the VHS tape

the same day that he

was at the cemetery

was just a coincidence.

What about the umbrella?

His wife died two months

ago in a car accident.

He bought that umbrella

the day before her funeral.

She was buried in that cemetery,

he was just visiting

her grave yesterday.

f*ck.

That was the same the week my

dad was k*lled back in '85.

Hold on a second.

Your dad, who was a detective

investigating a m*rder

was m*rder*d just the detective

that was investigating

the Briarwick m*rder.

So that video as taken what,

the first week of 1985, right?

So your dad was most

likely investigating

a m*rder from 1984.

And the woman that was

k*lled at Briarwick was 1997.

So that's 13 years apart.

But then your dad and Joe Rhode,

the two detectives that were

investigating those murders

were themselves m*rder*d.

Which means that it not

only kills every 13 years,

it kills anyone that's

investigating its murders.

That's why the years

didn't line up.

And that's why the cops

aren't telling you anything.

They're not even

looking into this,

they know what

that symbol means!

Garrett Benson was

telling the truth.

He was just a dr*fter

to blame it on.

Just like that homeless guy

that they charged with

your dad's m*rder.

I wouldn't be surprised

if some of the most

notorious K*llers in history

were just fall guys.

So wait, wait. So

wouldn't this...

This would've to mean

that Jill or Brad

were looking into

this thing, right?

She never mentioned

anything about that.

She might have

just been watching

old home videos leading up to

your dad's death anniversary,

and then this tape

would've led her

to Mr. Mourning, which

would've led to her m*rder.

I'm not so sure we should

keep investigating this.

What are you talking about?

We're just starting

to get somewhere now.

Yeah, but at what cost?

What if we're right?

What if this is true?

Hey, I'm not sure

this whole thing

isn't just bullshit anyway.

This case just

took a weird turn.

What kind of detective

stops investigating

just when we actually

start to solve this?

Well, in this case,

may be a smart one.

Listen, I told you

I would investigate

until your sister's funeral.

Okay, listen, I'm

a man of my word.

But I didn't sign up for this.

- No, no- - This is

something different.

What you signed up to do

was to solve a m*rder.

And that's what

we're f*cking doing.

I'll call you in the morning.

(door clicking)

(light chatter in bar)

(loud rock music)

Where you at, Mr. Mourning?

You in there?

I'm right here.

Are you real?

Come on, show me you're real.

(Ryan breathing unsteadily)

Fairytale bullshit.

You in there, you m*therf*cker?

(light footsteps)

You k*lled that dog?

f*cking freak.

Where the f*ck are you!

(quiet jingle)

Jesus Christ.

Oh, f*ck.

Jill. (cries)

You f*ck!

Where the f*ck are you!

Where the f*ck

are you! (sobbing)

(Ryan sobbing)

Hey, Jack,

It's Ryan.

I've been calling all

morning. Where are you?

I'm at the motel, it's noon now.

Give me a call back, please.

(knocking on door)

Jack!

(knocking on door)

Jack!

(door locking)

(Ryan exhaling heavily)

(pills rattling in bottle)

(Ryan coughs)

(water running)

(Ryan exhales heavily)

(Ryan exhales heavily)

(Ryan muttering incoherently)

Stop!

(quiet shuffling)

(Ryan breathing heavily)

(water running)

(Ryan slapping his face)

(water running)

(Ryan exhales heavily)

I could've sworn I

left it right here.

Jesus Christ.

Oh, f*ck.

(draw rattling)

(items rattling)

(quiet rattling)

Um...

Hello?

(quiet rattling)

Um...

(quiet rattling)

Who's in there?

(Ryan breathing heavily)

(quiet rattling)

(steady thwacking)

Who's in there? (quiet thwack)

Jack, is that you?

[Disembodied Voice]

It's me. Jill.

Your sister.

You're not my f*cking sister!

(Ryan breathing heavily)

You're not my f*cking sister!

(quiet rattling)

[Disembodied Voice] Ryan.

It's me. Jill.

Your sister.

Your sister. (voice deepens)

(loud crashing of door)

(Ryan breathing heavily)

(items rattling)

(Ryan breathing shakily)

(painting scraping)

What the f*ck is going on?

(Ryan breathing shakily)

(umbrella pops open)

(Ryan breathing shakily)

What the hell?

(Ryan breathing shakily)

(incoherent murmuring)

(murmuring getting louder

and more aggressive)

(frantic shuffling)

(incoherently shouting)

(shouting stops abruptly)

(Ryan breathing shakily)

(glass smashing) (loud crashing)

(crashing stops)

(Ryan sniveling)

(Ryan breathing unsteadily)

Come over. Come over. (whispers)

Come on, come on, come

on, come on. (whispers)

(Ryan exhales unsteadily)

(door creaks open)

(Ryan breathing unsteadily)

(hurried footsteps)

Ryan Graph?

Yes?

I'm Detective Barnes. This

is my partner Maynard.

May we come in?

Is this about my sister?

Do you recognize this man?

Yeah, that's Jack.

He's a private

investigator that I hired

to look into my sister's m*rder.

And when's the last

time you saw Jack?

What is going on here?

That's what we're

trying to figure out.

See, Jack disappeared from

this motel room two nights ago.

Were you with him?

Yeah. No, I mean, he was here,

we were looking into

my sister's m*rder.

What do you mean he disappeared?

And when he left, did

he mention any stops

he was gonna take or

anyone he was meeting?

No, he was just going back

to the Red Lounge Inn,

right outside of town

where he is been staying

for the last few nights.

He never made it there.

Look...

What happened here?

Some sort of scuffle?

No, look, this is

gonna sound crazy,

but we discovered

something that might be-

You seem to be

packing up in a hurry.

Any reason for that?

Yeah, my sister's funeral is

over in Briarwick tomorrow

and I'm spending the

night there, look-

And then you're going back

to New York after that?

Is that a problem?

It's probably not the best idea

seeing as you were the

last person to see Jack.

I had nothing to do

with this, all right?

I just hired him

as an investigator

to look into my sister's m*rder,

which you f*cking assholes

are doing sh*t about!

Look, it's best if

you stay here for now.

Leaving would cause

serious red flags.

If you think of anything that

can help, this is my number.

We'll be in touch.

Probably just a big

misunderstanding.

I bet he probably just

didn't wanna continue

the investigation and he bailed.

And honestly, I don't blame him.

Just tell everybody that I'll be

at the funeral home

tomorrow morning.

I'm gonna spend the night

here just in case, all right?

Yeah.

I love you, mom.

Bye.

(loud thunder rumbling)

(phone ringing)

Jack?

[Jack] Ryan?

[Ryan] Jack, what

the f*ck is going on?

The police were saying

that you were missing.

Where are you?

[Jack] I'm at your

sister's house.

Meet me here.

My sister's?

Jack? Jack?

(thunder rumbles loudly)

Oh sh*t.

(Ryan breathing shakily)

(knocking on door)

Okay, you f*ck. (whispers)

(Ryan breathing heavily)

(Ryan exhales shakily)

(Ryan exhaling shakily)

Look, man, I really

need some help.

I f*cked up.

Come on, man.

(Ryan breathing

shakily) f*ck. f*ck.

(Ryan breathing shakily)

[Ryan] No, you don't understand.

What the f*ck are doing to me?

-Holy sh*t.

You can end this tonight!

(upbeat music)
