and you can fall down a cliff.

I don't know what it is.

it's gone. It just went away.

This is a fricking drop-off.

[Russell] Watch it, watch it,
but don't come out here.

That's unstable.
I almost slipped
right off the edge here.

This was the dumbest thing
I think we've done.

Let's get back out of here.

I don't know, man.
That light just disappeared
right when I got to that edge.

That can't be a coincidence.

[cameraman] Oh, my God,
that was awful.

[Russell] It's time
we get out of here.

There's something
about this cave that feels
just a little bit off.

It's almost like
it was drawing me
all the way to that edge.

That could have been deadly.

I am not done
with this place yet.

[Mireya]
Come and check this out.

Something's been
bedding down there.

[Ronny] Looks like it, right?
Look at it.
This is all dug out.

It's like something
was digging in here.

[narrator] Five miles
from Russell's position,

Ronny and Mireya have been
struggling to find their way
back to camp,

and have stumbled upon
what appears to be
a massive animal den.

[Ronny] I don't
smell anything, though,
like... [sniffs]

But it's definitely
big enough to bed down.

[Mireya] It's possible that
whatever was using this
hasn't been here recently.

Yeah.

[Ronny] As we're trying to
make our way out of this area,

even though we've been lost
for several hours,

we stumble upon
an enormous den.

This, clearly,
was something large enough

for a seven-to eight-foot tall
Bigfoot to lay down,

and easily be hidden
from all of the elements
around here.

This is enough room
to kind of hide from thermals.
Do you know what I mean?

[Mireya whispers]
An animal described in the way
that Bigfoot is described,

I wouldn't necessarily think
as opportunistic.

But there are primates
that we've only now
just discovered

in the last couple of years,
they're actually using caves.

[narrator] In South Africa,
scientists have
recently found baboons

adopting naturally-formed
caves as shelters,

a trait often attributed
to early hominid species,

what some believe
Bigfoot may be.

[Mireya] I mean,
this is certainly big enough.
But I think more important is

that there's nothing
in here that looks like
something arranged it...

-Correct.
-...with purpose and intent.

[Ronny whispering]
With the Bigfoot nest
it's, like, intertwined,

woven, but something
looks complicated, even.
I don't see any of that.

[Mireya] It's almost morning
so let's keep searching

and see if we can
find our way back to camp.

[Bryce] I feel like the more
we investigate this area,

the more I'm convinced
that we're on the trail
of something unusual.

So, I'm on my way
to speak with Jim.

He's a caretaker of a ranch
that's right near
our hot zone.

And he had an encounter
with one of these creatures

while he was driving
down the road.

And so I wanna
hear more about it,
find out what he knows.

[Bryce] Jim, thank you
for taking the time
to speak to me today.

I understand that
you saw something
cross the road one night.

Can you tell me
a little bit more
about what you witnessed?

Yes, it was about
five to seven years ago,

and it was dark,
it was, um, sort of
a rainy, drizzly night

and there was a thick fog.

-Mm.
-I was in my truck
and I saw a shadow to my left.

So I skidded to a stop
and this shadow, it hesitated
at the edge of the road.

But when I came
to a full stop,
the shadow got taller.

Wow. Could you make out a form
to the shadow, or...

It was just a shadow
and a dark shape,
but then I got an odd whiff.

The smell
reminded me of, like,
a human perspiration smell.

But it was stronger.

At first, I thought
it might be a bear
'cause it seemed kinda tall.

But when it moved,
it didn't move like a bear

-that was standing
on its hind legs.
-Right.

It more glided
across the road.

As it got directly
in front of my headlights,
the shadow became more dense.

But toward the top,
it began
to dissipate somewhat.

-Oh, wow.
-So I didn't see
quite the detail,

but it was still very,
very tall.

So what did you think
this thing was?

You know, I moved up here
and I'd heard the stories
about Bigfoot.

That was one thing
that entered my mind.
I knew it wasn't a bear.

Did it head off
into the woodline, or...

Well, it went up the bankside
of the road,
and went in the bushes.

And I couldn't follow it
because the fog
was so dense.

-Right.
-But the next day
I went back to the same spot.

I couldn't find tracks,
no evidence at all.

Except, there was
a small sapling
that was growing,

and a couple of small limbs
had been broken back.

And this was fairly high,
so something larger
had to go by.

You were traveling down
one of these old roads here.

-Do you think you
surprised this creature?
-Uh, yes, sir.

There are dozens of reports
of Bigfoot crossing the road.

One theory is that these cars
move so quickly that it
catches Bigfoot off-guard.

So Jim's story
is really starting line up
with others I've heard.

So, have you ever
seen anything like that
since that encounter?

-Or any other strange things?
-Oh, yes, sir.

I've seen some things
that I couldn't explain.
On three different occasions

I saw light ba*ls of light.

They were white.
Not real bright white,
they were more, um,

sort of like a eggshell white.

It's like they were
in one spot and then
they just shot up.

Wow.

ba*ls of light, or orbs,
are another
commonplace phenomenon

that are often associated
with Bigfoot sightings.

What the [bleep] is that?

[whispering] There's
a little white dot
above this heat signature.

[Bryce] This is something
our team has experienced
multiple times

during our investigations.

[Russell] Look at this.

Two other times
I saw orange globes.

And I kinda think
I communicated
with them accidentally.

-How so?
-I was thinking,

"I wonder if those things
know I'm looking at 'em?"

And the two ba*ls,
they both started
moving up and down

like someone had a head
that was wobbling up and down
saying, "Yeah.

-We know
you're looking at us."
-Strange.

I didn't know what else to do,
I just... I don't know,
I just waved at it.

I just... You know,
like that and they took off.

And these orbs
and the shadow sighting
all took place around here?

-Uh, yes, sir.
-Well, Jim, I'd love
to take a look around.

-Do you think
that'd be all right?
-Yes, sir, that'll be fine.

[Bryce] If Jim really saw
a strange shadowy creature

and floating orbs
around his property,

then this is exactly
where I wanna be.

[Bryce] There could be
a logical explanation
for all of this,

but this is
definitely something
I wanna investigate myself.

-I hope you see something.

Camp is right up ahead.

[Mireya] Oh, boy.
It's been
a [bleep] long night.

After spending 12 hours
navigating thick forest,

Ronny and Mireya
have finally returned
to base camp

nearly two hours
after sunrise.

[Ronny speaks]

-What the hell?
-Are you smelling that?

-I can smell it. It's strong.
-Oof.

But it smells like something's
been coming through the camp.

Like, right in here.
It smells like... Like urine.

Oof. It's a lot stronger here,
it's... Jeez.

[Ronny] Does anything
look disturbed, or...

Was all this foliage
broken down like this?

-Did you notice...
-Not that I can...

-...when we left?
-...recall.

I've never smelt
anything like this before.

Very musty, and it
wasn't a bear or a deer.

But something, clearly,
came through our camp
last night.

[Ronny] Yeah, this is
all matted down over here,
over here.

Yeah, that scent is really
coming in strong here.

I'm just curious if there's
anything around the tents.

I don't remember this
looking like this.

Like, it looks like something
came through and trashed it.

After being away from camp
as many hours as we were,

it was sort of shocking
to come back and realize

that something
had been through our camp.

Everything around
was matted down.

It's almost like you get home

and you realize
that a stranger
has been in your house.

[Ronny speaks]

-That is strong,
like it just was here.
-It's really...

-Super strange.
-Yeah.

[Mireya] We obviously
don't see anything.

I think whatever
was here, left.

Well, we'll have to see
if there's anything
on the trail cams.

Can you check that out
while I keep looking
around camp?

Yeah, I'll start over here
and work my way around.

-[Mireya] Let me know
what you find.
-[Ronny] I'll start over here.

We've noticed that
there's something
coming into camp.

So we wanna check
all the different cameras
that are around base camp,

but also down here
by the river

because whatever
came through camp
more than likely

has come through here.

Let's check this out.

Okay, we have...
I'm actually surprised,
we have nothing on this.

I reviewed the first trail cam
and there was
nothing on there.

I moved on to the second one
and, again...

Not seeing
anything interesting.

After reviewing
every single one
of those trail cams,

I don't have an answer,
I don't have an understanding

of how something could
come through the camp,

but yet nothing
on the trail cams.

So I'm very confused
that we were unable to see
anything come through.

[cell phone ringing]

Hey, guys, what's going on?

[Ronny] Hey, Bryce.
Listen, we're seeing
clear signs of something

-coming into camp,
but we can't tell what it is.
-Okay.

Definitely the ground
has been trampled down

as if something big has been
coming in and out of camp.

Oh, wow.

All the cameras are triggering
but we're not getting
anything on the trail cams.

I'm not sure
how that's even possible.

Oh, yeah. That is weird.
I mean, something would
have to be pretty stealthy

to evade all those
trail cameras you guys set up.

What if we did something
similar to try and figure out

-what's coming into your camp.
-Okay.

So, I just talked to a witness
who thinks he might have
surprised a Bigfoot

while driving through
these old back roads.

What if you guys had a way
to move around
all these old logging roads

that surround your base camp
quickly and quietly.

Then maybe you guys could
catch something by surprise
as well.

just looks spooky as ever
in the daylight, too.

Look at that.

Four and a half miles away,

Russell has returned
to the entrance

of the decades-old,
abandoned rail tunnel

searching for clues
as to what emitted

the mysterious light
he spotted
at the end of a small cave.

It just turns to black.

[Russell] Last night
I found a tunnel.

I wanna go back up
and explore in there today.

Seeing it in the daylight,
and you have
all this green life around it

then it just turns into
this center black hole,

doesn't make it more inviting.

It still looks daunting
and dangerous.

So, I really wanna find out
what was making that light
at the end of that small cave.

There's gotta be some kind of
a logical explanation for it.

Sometimes research
takes you into places

you're not
always comfortable with.

I have no idea
what I might be walking into.

There's definitely been
traffic through here.

I mean, I already know
there's bears in the area.

If bears are also
using this space

to just get out of the weather
or for seclusion, or...

Right up through here
is where last night

we saw that
offshoot tunnel right here.

It almost looks like
a level ground from here.

But from when you stand there,
it's a significant drop.

Let's see if I can figure out
what that light was.

[Russell] I don't see anything
that would explain
that light we saw.

I'm gonna head over now
to where that light came from.

At the end of that small cave,
there was no source
that gave away

what was actually
putting out that light.

So my thought is
it's either something

that was off in the distance
that disappeared

or it's just
one of those things

that we're not
gonna be able to find
an explanation for.

[Russell] Let's head back
and grab our gear,

see if we can't get
a broader view.

[camera beeps]

-All right, that's good.
-[Ronny] Perfect.

[Mireya] Whoa,
these are faster
than I thought.

This feels different.
Russ is so jealous right now.

-Yeah.
-[Ronny laughs]

[narrator] Bryce has delivered
two electric bikes
to Ronny and Mireya.

These bikes can travel
up to 32 miles an hour

using a silent
battery-powered motor.

Their plan is to use
old logging roads

to explore the area
around their camp in hopes
of catching a Bigfoot unaware.

We don't know
what was in our camp,
but we know that it's likely

that it had to get through
these roads
in order to get there.

Moving quickly and silently
is a great way to catch
a shy animal by surprise.

It's like the road version
of traveling by canoe
on a river.

Another road to follow
over there.

[Ronny] I'm excited
to use these electric bikes.

They're being used
a lot more by hunters

who can access certain areas
without alerting the wildlife.

[Mireya] Hearing a lot more
wildlife out here.

[Ronny] Stay alert.
Keep your eyes open.

[Russell] All these ferns
have been pushed down.

It's like...
By something fairly large.

[narrator] Now one mile
from the abandoned
rail tunnel,

survivalist Russell Acord
is exploring the area

where he
believes he saw
a mysterious light hovering.

[Russell] It's literally,
like, laid these things over.

I've been tracking
my whole life.

And when you see
from a distance,

you can see that the ferns
are pushed down
and laid down

and pressed against the soil.

You can tell that
something has been here.

It's clear that
there's a lot of traffic
all around this tunnel.

I'm gonna
drop down a little bit

and then work my way
back up through here,

just in case there's
any muddy areas

that I might be able
to get a track from.

Looks a little easier.

This is my first time
down in here.

See how this stuff
has been pushed down.

It goes right
to the water's edge here.

Yeah, take this thing off.

I'll just run down
to the sandbar
and have a real quick look

'cause I know
there's something here.

Come here.

That looks almost like
a footprint.

[bird chirps]

Do you hear that bird?

That's down there
quite a ways.

[Russell] I'm methodically
working my way downstream.

But one of the things
I start hearing is this bird
off in the distance.

This bird is called
the tattletale of the forest

and it will start making noise
if there's something
below it.

To acknowledge it, maybe,

or to let other animals
in the area know that
there's an intruder.

[rhythmic chirping]

[narrator] Nicknamed
the tattletale bird,

various species of jaybirds
are well known amongst
outdoorsmen

who have learned to use them
to locate big game...

[chirping]

...or act as
an early warning device

alerting them to the presence
of dangerous predators.

[Russell] It's that nature's
alarm system,

and it's telling me
there's something down here.

[bird chirps]

It makes you wonder
if it's tattling on me

or if it's tattling
on something down there.

It's down there quite a ways.

I kinda wanna focus
a little bit more attention
down that way

and see what's got
its attention.

I wanna know what it is.

[chirping intensifies]

Something just moved
right downstream.

Right there.

[Russell] There's definitely
something moving down there.

[whispering] We move
one-on-one.

I'll get stopped
and then you move.

[Russell] Hearing this
tattletale bird downstream,

tells me that there's
something down there
that it feels threatened by.

Maybe that's the predator
that I'm looking for.

[whispering] Did you notice
the bird got quiet...

Ah, it just
flew across the bottom.

I can't see very much
from here.

I wanna get on top of this
and get above this
and look down.

If I use this telephoto
like a pair of binoculars,

it gives me a chance
to see a little deeper
in these woods.

I don't see anything.

-[twig snaps]
-[Russell exclaims]

[Russell] Wait a minute,
did you hear that?

I can hear it.

Right there.

Zak, I've gotta
get off this thing.

It's right straight down
below us.

[bleep]

Crap, it's on the right side.

Zak, it's on my side.

[leaves rustling below]

[Russell] I've gotta get
down there.

[Russell] It was
right by the water's edge.

It could still be down there.
But if it isn't, it can't be
that far ahead of us.

[labored breathing]

-[cameraman] Is this
where you saw it?
-Right here.

This thing right here,
was what was moving.

It was right here
next to the water.

It had to have been
to reach this. Right here.

Look at this.

That's a big pad,

with wet feet.

Look at this.

Whoa. Look at that.

That could be
a heel impression right there.

That thing's still wet.

Whatever it was,
it was in the water
right here,

came up across this rock.

Here we go, here we go.

That's pressed down
That's been squished.

up that trail?

a really clear trail behind.

I'm gonna do what I do best.

I'm gonna track this thing.

I know exactly where it was.

have almost completed
their trip

investigating the perimeter
around their camp.

As we're riding,

right next to me
I suddenly hear
this really loud sound.

It sounded like there was
an animal rustling
and scurrying up

from the very road
that we were on.

You guys hold back.
Wait here.

Just me and Ronny, okay?

-[Ronny] Yeah.
-[Mireya] You could hear
the leaves incredibly loudly.

Like, almost like a big rake.

It sounded close,
loud and big.

We're right back by our camp.

It can't be far.

[branch snapping]

-There's a fork
right in front of us.
-[Ronny] Yeah.

[Mireya] The only way
that we're really gonna
be able to cover more area

is if we split up.

-Okay.
-So you can take the left

-and I'll go right.
-Okay.

After doing these expeditions
with Mireya
for almost three years now,

we rely on each other
for our safety.

In this situation
where I lose sight of her,
I can't see her,

it can be very unnerving
because if I encounter
something hostile out here,

I don't have any backup.

I mean, just barely...

[branch snapping]

I just heard a...
I just heard a...

branch snap...

right behind me.

Hey, Ronny, come in.

[Mireya via radio]
I've got branches snapping
right behind me.

[branch snapping]

I think [bleep]
just got real here.

[Ronny] I'm heading closer
to the sound over here.

[Mireya grunts]

[Ronny] Tree is breaking,
branches breaking

like something heavy
is walking around.

Hearing more and more sounds.

[branches breaking]

[Mireya] Oh, my God.

Something was moving
behind me,

so I just want to take a look
on the thermal...

and see if I see
a heat signature.

There's something
moving out here.

[Bryce] So, I think this
is about far enough.

This should be
right about the spot.

[narrator] On the outer edge
of the target zone,

Bryce has driven
to a seldom-used road

where a local caretaker

had an encounter
with a mysterious
shadow being.

I was in my truck
and I saw a shadow to my left.

So, Jim said he saw...

a shadow come up
from his driver's side...

and go up
into that hillside but...

You know, I guess
what doesn't
make sense to me is...

is if a shadow's gonna pass
in front of your car,

there has to be an object
between the headlight
and the shadow.

But he said
he didn't see anything.

And it gets me
to thinking about
what Ronny and Mireya saw

in Washington State.

[Mireya] Wait.

[Bryce] That shadow
down by that river

that came from nowhere
and disappeared into nothing.

-[Ronny] Whoa.
-[Mireya] What the [bleep]
was that?

[Bryce] It starts
to make me wonder,
perhaps Jim...

experienced the same type
of phenomenon.

We keep encountering
this idea of shadow creatures,

and though it's something
we know very little about,

it continues to pop up

and to me, that means
it's something
that we can't ignore.

You know, I did bring
the call blaster.

Maybe we can
stir something up.

So, I've been out here
for a while and...

I tried some call blasting
but... nothing.

And, uh...

You know, look.

We know these creatures
have...

What the [bleep]?

What's that light back there?

Hey, are you getting this?

seeing these strange
ba*ls of light on his land

and Russell also reported
seeing strange ba*ls of light.

We're out
in the middle of nowhere.

Whatever it was,
I have the feeling we're all
experiencing the same thing.

[Bryce] I don't know,
but it didn't come out

until we played
that call blaster.

Hold on, I'm just gonna
try one more time.

The weird part is
when we played
that call blaster,

the strange
ball of light appeared.

But when we played
the vocalization again...
Nothing.

I don't know, maybe it just
wanted us to know
that it was there

and whatever it was
was watching us.

That was so bizarre.

[Mireya] Seriously,
this is like walking
through a dark tunnel.

[narrator] 13 miles
from Bryce's position,

Ronny and Mireya are tracking
the sounds of a large animal
near their camp.

Look at over here.

I have something over here.

Okay.

There's something moving
in front of me here.

[Mireya speaking]

[Ronny] Shh. Quiet.
Heat signature
running between the trees.

[Mireya] Where?

[Ronny] It's right in between
those trees.

It looks like something
right there.

[Mireya] It would just be
good to try and identify

what it is
before we head towards it.

But if it moves...

[Ronny] Okay.

[Mireya speaking]

[Ronny] I got two
heat signatures here.

[Mireya] You got two?

[Ronny] Can you see that?

[Mireya] Yeah.

-[Ronny] Yeah, that's gone.
-[Mireya] It's gone.

[Ronny speaking]

-I can hear it snapping.
-[Mireya] I can hear it,
it's further.

It's moving away,
it's moving in that direction.

[Ronny speaking]

This was the object
that was thrown at me
and what I'm realizing is...

something was holding
this stick to create this heat

that I'm seeing on the ground
by thermal.

Something threw this at me
in my direction

in the middle
of the night here.

[Mireya speaking]

What I don't understand
is the heat signature
that was over here.

And then you approached it
but then it was gone.

Animals...
they tend to group.

-There's safety in numbers.
-Right.

And so,
maybe by us coming together,

whatever it was
that was behind me...

[Ronny] Retreated.

-[Mireya] Spooked off
or yeah, just retreated.
-Okay, that makes sense.

It's a lot more threatening
to have,

-say, two humans
rather than one.
-Right.

[Ronny] Those electric bikes
allowed us

to get closer and quieter
than we ever could on foot.

For once, we were able
to get a drop on this thing.

And after tonight,
I'm more certain that
whatever is around our camp

is interested in us
and it knows that we're here.

It's telling me that we have
a Bigfoot in our midst

and maybe we're getting
a little bit too close.

I'm not questioning
that there was something
out here.

There was something,

-we just don't know what.
-I just want to know
what it is.

Yeah, okay.
Let's go.

[Russell] These are some
really big prints.

It's not like deer hoof marks.

Look at this.
Right here, this one.

That's a pretty long stride.

[narrator] Three miles away
from Ronny and Mireya,

and now halfway up
a mountain ridge,

Russell continues to track
a creature

that he heard
moving through a river
in the canyon below.

Yeah, see this trail?

Something big
has been using this.

Look how that's just broken up
and hanging there.

[Russell] I can hear that.

What the hell is that?

[rustling]

You hear that?

That's right in front of us.

We've got to stay here.
Hold on,

Zak, I'm not getting anything
on these thermals.

There's no thermal
unless that thing's
directly behind a tree.

And we'll find that out
soon enough when we walk
down through here.

Look at that.

Right there's
where I went through.

I'm gonna follow it.

I can't see anything.

It's so closed-in
through here.

I can only see the limit...

of just what's
directly in front of me.

This dense brush
is really claustrophobic.

It's dense
and it's disorienting.

If whatever we're tracking
is trying to lose us,

it couldn't have chosen
a better path.

Something fairly big
put a print
right through there.

I know we're
on the right path.

I haven't heard anything
out in front of me
in quite a while.

So whatever's in front of me
has outdistanced me
by quite a bit.

If this thick brush
doesn't thin out soon,

I'm afraid we're gonna
lose this trail for good.

There we go.

You see that clearing?
That gives me
that distance to watch.

It's where if anything
crosses it without any kind
of heat trace or thermal,

I'll easily be able to see it.

I know that this hillside
will eventually peak out,

and once I get
to the top of it,

I should have
a superior vantage point
from here.

If I can see this thing
in a clearing,

maybe I can get
the whole shape and see
exactly what I'm following.

So I need to get
to the top of this hill.

You know, every time
we come across a clearing,

we seem to get
significant activity.

Clearings are
ideal hunting zones.

They're wide open

and they make it easier
to spot whatever's out there.

This could be
the perfect opportunity

to get my eyes on
whatever's out there.

Zak, I'm seeing something
on the south side that's...

pretty hot.

I can't walk away from it
without knowing
what that is.

I'm gonna work my way
over there.

I feel like we're walking
into an ambush.

This is the weirdest thing.

It could be
something lying up here.

I just don't know.

You know, when you're
doing your research,

not every clue or observation
is gonna lead
to something significant.

But a good researcher
will continue doing
his due diligence.

You can't really stop.

Looks like this is
what it was.

It's a black rock.

It was just
holding that heat in.

Let's keep heading up.

This is
a pretty good clearing, Zak.

I think I want to set up here.
