ahead of you loading more."
[laughing]
A-ha.
Well, that's a first.
[bell tolls]
[bell tolls]
[priest] Our father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on Earth
as it is in heaven.
[man] Coming up.
[Harley] Get ready
to go do something.
Not very many people on
Earth get the chance to do, but...
it comes with some rewards,
but also a lot of risk.
[narrator] Woven into
the life of Dutch Harbor
since it was a Russian
fur trading port...
I really need the higher power,
and I need to
protect these guys.
The Cathedral of
the Holy Ascension,
offers hope and solace
to those heading into
peril on the Bering Sea.
[woman vocalizing]
[Jack] This is the
deadliest job in the world.
There's been I think three
big crab boats that have sank.
[woman continues vocalizing]
In about 10 years,
uh, the hands were
lost on each one.
[Sig] We haven't had a king
crab season in a few years.
And so, having the
preacher down here,
blessing the boats
is, uh, is quite a thing.
[bell tolls]
[Keith] Hey, crew, can you guys
hop up on the dock real quick?
Take a moment.
Our local pastor here is
going to bless the boat,
the fleet, for
some, uh, good will,
good love and good luck.
[man] Roger.
[pastor] Glory to the
father and to the son
and to the Holy Spirit.
Now and ever and to
ages of ages. Amen.
Saving the human
race by Thy mighty arms.
Preserve this boat and
give it a guardian angel.
And do Thou keep in peace
them that desire to sail in it.
[Jack clearing throat] Wow.
Yeah. I've never
been a part of this.
[Harley] He has a Bible
in his hand, doesn't he?
[Jack] Yeah, a
Bible and holy water.
[pastor] This boat is
blessed and sanctified
by the grace of
the All Holy Spirit.
[Jack] Feel like I have a little
bit more protection out here.
I'm gonna go get those, uh,
guys ready, and
we'll get out of here.
I think it's gonna
be a good season.
[Sig] There he is.
I wasn't sure if you
were gonna make it.
[Jake] Me neither.
[pastor] ...sanctified by the
grace of the all-Holy Spirit,
- through the sprinkling of this Holy...
- [grunts]
[Sig] Got it?
[Sig laughing]
- [Jake] Great.
- [Sig] I was starting to wonder.
[pastor] Lord have
mercy. Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
Amen.
[Sig] If you're
ready, I'm ready.
[radio clicks]
Okay. You can toss him.
[man] Yeah. Roger.
[Jake] Still looks the
same. Everything was...
built in the 1970s by the Amish.
I don't like the change.
[both laughing]
[man] Clear!
[Sig] But with a small quota,
do you want to get in
and get out Derby style?
[Jake] Yeah, I know
how that works.
[Sig] Being
blessed doesn't hurt.
Get a load. All aboard.
Coming aboard. Let's go.
[Megan] All clear!
[Greg] Are you ready?
- [Sophia] I'm pretty nervous.
- [Greg] Oh, yeah?
It's, like, all
that anticipation
that's leading up
to this moment.
I just want to be a great
captain like my father was.
[Megan] Three-star
country, baby. Let's go.
[Greg] You ready?
- Yeah.
- Go ahead. Let that go.
Let's get out of here.
[Jack] Toss it!
Batten down the hatches.
Time to fetch some king crab.
[man] Get aboard!
[exclaims]
[Keith] If we can't find them,
everything's over.
So we have to fish this year
like every string
is the last string
we're ever going to set.
[Jack] If we can catch
more than everybody else,
if we get more quota,
we'll keep fishing.
Just like the Derby days.
- [all exclaiming] -
[man] Yeah, baby!
Do it, boy!
Let's get some, baby!
[Sig] There's $30 million
of crab out there just
waiting to be caught.
[exclaims]
- You gotta get out there...
- [hissing]
and be aggressive.
[all exclaiming]
[narrator] On the
northern grounds...
[Johnathan] There it is.
There you go.
Now we're by the navel, too.
I'm gonna get them.
Aboard the Time Bandit.
You gotta... [clicks tongue]
I'm starting a new tradition.
If I hit the block
we're setting right now.
- [g*n fires]
- [dings]
[man] Yeah!
[all exclaiming]
[Johnathan] Oh,
[bleep]! [laughing]
Yeah, baby.
Yeah, I got it first shot.
[all exclaiming]
[Johnathan] Did it again.
- Direct hit!
- Yeah!
[Johnathan] Whoo!
Yeah. Bull's eye.
Okay, start setting, guys.
Whoo-hoo.
[narrator] The starting
bell on red king crab
sounds for the first
time in 36 months.
[Johnathan] First of the
year, guys. Yeah, baby!
Give him a kiss.
Yeah, baby.
Going over!
[Johnathan] I'm going to the
family hot spot up to the north.
Grounds my dad used to fish,
and we fished, you
know, when we were kids.
But that's, like,
about '47, so...
I'm all alone over here.
[laughing]
Ten miles from the fleet.
[narrator] Forty-two
miles southwest
aboard the Northwestern...
[man speaking]
Hang on. I'm gonna
get you a new guy.
You're the new guy
here. It's your turn.
I [bleep] hate it.
No. I don't want to.
Nobody wants to.
I've never wanted
to. I always throw up.
You're holding up
my season here, pal.
Are you gonna do it?
[chuckles]
[Sig] Come on.
Look, I'll do it with you.
- Is that fine? Fine.
- Okay.
Come on. Let's get
this show on the road.
All right. You pick the one.
It's been about 10 years.
We have to do head or gut?
- You do head, I'll do gut.
- Skull!
Skull.
[whooping]
[man] Yeah. [laughing]
[gags]
[spits]
[coughs and spits]
- Rob! Do it!
- [coughing]
[Jake] Dude, I think I got
fish [bleep] in that one, bro.
[gags]
He's throwing up. [laughing]
[bleep]
God! Why did I do that?
I'll be upstairs.
[Jake bleeping] I told you
this was gonna happen.
Took one for the team.
[laughing]
Get him in the water.
Go over!
[Sig] This is the farthest south
we'll try out here
in the deep gully
and then just keep moving north.
I just want the
pots in the water.
King Crab 2023.
We waited a long time.
[narrator] Thirty-five
miles north...
[Keith] I started
in the mid '80s
as a greenhorn and worked
my way up to the wheelhouse.
The king crab was always...
basically our Super Bowl.
Through my entire career,
red king's the
ultimate crab treasure.
And right now,
we need to find the crab first.
I like to think I've
got an advantage
'cause we've got
science and not just luck.
[man] Going over!
- [Jack] Let's set south to north.
- [Harley] Okay.
[Jack] From, uh,
deep to shallow.
- [Harley] Okay.
- [Jack] Cover the grounds.
[Harley] King crab 2023.
Let's get it on, Jack.
[Jack] Dump it.
There's millions of dollars
of product on the line.
We have to catch this crab.
There is no not catching.
[man] Pot going over!
[exclaims]
[narrator] One hundred
miles southwest
on the Western
bairdi crab grounds...
[exclaiming]
[Megan speaking]
aboard the Seabrooke.
[Megan] These are building.
The weather can't [bleep] serious.
[Sophia] I wanna set like this.
Right on the edge,
right on the line.
From the western
to the eastern district.
[Greg sighs]
[Greg] So you just
wanna come out here
just g*ns blazing, set
caddy walkers to the tide?
[Sophia] Yeah.
I ain't got nothing
to lose but your gear.
That's it.
[Megan speaking]
[Greg laughing]
[Greg] She's probably not
your biggest fan right now.
[Megan speaking]
All right. Beep 'em.
- [beeps]
- [man] There we go.
[Megan speaking]
[Sophia] Ooh, we
did the first one.
Whoo!
[Megan speaking]
We need to hurry
up and get this done.
[seagulls squawking]
[narrator] One hundred
thirty-five miles northeast...
[Keith] King crab '23. Yeah.
On the Wizard.
[Keith speaking]
Aww, man.
Right?
[Keith] I-I know.
[laughs] Anyways, you know
what? Make your dad proud.
You guys stay safe out there.
[claps] On three, king crab.
One, two, three.
[all] King crab!
[grunts] Let's do it. Let's go!
[all exclaiming]
[narrator] Out of the
every captain gambles
they picked the
right starting spot.
For Captain Keith,
it's a 10-mile underwater ridge,
called the gooseneck.
So named for the shape it makes
on the bathymetric charts.
I guess it's got
the sensor on it,
so I'll have someone get
that up to me right away.
[narrator] But the
veteran skipper
also comes armed with
temperature gauges,
which he believes will
let him track the school.
If he can find them.
[Keith] All right, guys, first
one of the season is coming up.
- [man 1] Oh, yeah.
- [man 2] Oh, yeah, baby!
- [Keith] First one, huh?
- First one.
Here we go.
[Johnathan] Going fishing, Dad.
Phew.
Red crab!
Showtime, baby! Showtime!
[Jake] So you got, what?
Sixty-mile spread?
Something like that?
Ah, 50, 50 plus.
That's a lot of miles, man.
[man] Here it comes.
Let's flag that in.
We'll start in the deep and
work our way into the shallows.
Finally, we're fishing
red crab again.
[man 1] Ready?
[man 2] Do it, boy! Whoo!
[man 3] Let 'er rip.
[exclaims]
Come on, baby!
Let the Derby begin.
[all exclaiming]
Yeah, baby!
[Johnathan] The family
hot spot up to the north...
has always been good for us.
So come on over, crab.
We'll wine and
dine you down there.
Then we'll put you in the pool.
Five-star accommodations
over here on Time Bandit.
[laughing]
[man] Come on,
baby. Come to papa.
Come on, man.
There is a lot of
competition for those crab.
[man] Here we go.
[narrator] Across the fleet...
Captains jostled to find
the first trace of red king crab
in three years.
Come on, crab.
Just make sure we get our share.
[exclaiming]
All right. Here we go!
[indistinct shouting]
- Come on, crab.
- [man 1] Up.
[indistinct]
[Keith] Show me something.
Show me something.
[man] Whoo!
Yeah!
Hey! Whoa!
[crew members cheering]
[man 1] Yeah! There we go!
It's in there. Yeah, baby!
[Johnathan] Come on.
Come on, crab, please be here.
Please be here, crab, please
have some crabs. Please.
[crew members cheering]
My hair stood on my
neck. That's a good pod.
[man whooping]
[Johnathan] Jackpot, baby.
[narrator] On the
northern grounds,
captains Keith and Jonathan
haul the first pots of red gold.
Each netting upwards
of 4,000 bucks.
Ah! [laughs]
Whoa!
- Yeah!
- Go, baby!
[narrator] And on the
southern grounds...
[man] Come on, now!
Come on, baby.
[man groans]
Oh, man. Not too sexy.
[man 2] It's not
looking too good.
[Captain speaking]
[man 1] All smalls and females.
That's about it.
I went to the wrong [bleep] man.
[Edgar] Come on, be loaded.
[indistinct]
[man] What do we got?
[man] Yeah, dude.
[Sig] This is not what
we were looking for.
[man] Oh, Lord, help me.
We can do better than that, bud.
[Edgar] Uh, yeah. We
have to do better than that.
[groans]
- [man 1 grunting] Yeah!
- [man 2] Yeah, baby! Yeah!
[man 3] That's what
I'm talking about.
Isn't he gorgeous?
I call him gorgeous George.
Count coming.
[man over radio]
- Five-nine?
- [man over radio]
[Keith] Find out what we got
here for temperature shorty.
- [talking
indistinctly] - Thanks.
[Keith] Let's see
what we got here.
So, it's 46.2.
We're seeing crab here.
I won't be shocked
if these numbers
in the next few pots start
to get better and better.
Holy smokes!
[crew members cheering]
That's got some crabs.
It's got crabs, got crab legs.
It's got crab legs.
Crab legs. It's got crab legs...
[man 1] Whoo-hoo!
- [man 2 speaking]
- [man 1] Whoo!
Let's pull like [bleeping]
Let's go!
So we just got to dial in and
find out where they're moving
and try to follow
that school of crab.
[man claps] Whoo!
[man 2] Can't wait.
[man 3] Oh, no!
- [man 3] What is this?
- [man 4] That's no good, man.
[Sig] Stack these pots, okay?
[man speaking]
[Edgar] We've got to figure
out where we got to go.
[Sig] Ah, I know.
[man] Where's all the crab at?
[woman speaking]
[Sig] Roger.
[Edgar] Ooh, man. nine crab.
So far, the deep's
not working out.
And I had hopes for at
least one crab an hour.
We're not hitting that, so that's
what we really need, to be productive.
All right, guys.
[man shouts indistinctly]
We set six pots in the shallows.
That was just kind
of an a lark, but, uh...
It turns out that might
be the sweetest deal yet.
[narrator] Ninety-five
miles southwest...
on the bairdi crab grounds...
[Brett speaking over phone]
Gregg has been trusting me in
hauling and setting some gear.
So I'm pretty confident
in my capabilities.
You know, I just get skittish
'cause it's, like, not my boat
and not my gear and not my crew.
[Brett speaking]
[bleep] here we go. I [bleep]
[Bob] Well, that's just the thing.
It's like the Victory is my baby.
And like the crew on there is
quite literally my biological family.
[Brett speaking]
[laughs]
[Brett speaking]
[Bob] We're gonna find out.
- [Brett speaking]
- [Bob] Will do.
- [Brett] Good luck.
- [Bob] All right. Bye bye.
[narrator] Aboard
the Seabrooke...
[Gregg] Hey, good morning.
The first pot. Let's
get ready to haul.
[man 1] Here we go.
[man 2] Let's go! Let's go!
[Bob] This is my string
that I set yesterday
right on the fence, and
it's got fresh hanging bait.
So I'm optimistic
it will be very good.
Yeah, we're all pumped.
We're all super pumped.
[Gregg] All right. Well,
hopefully, you are right here.
[narrator] Skipper in
training, Sophia Bob Nielsen,
and Captain Gregg Wallace
haul 60 pots set on the eastern
perimeter of the grounds...
Hopefully, we can lure
some of the eastern bairdi
over to the west
district with our bait.
Just gotta get a whiff of
something and see what's here.
[Bob] Yeah.
[narrator] ...gambling that a
good meal will attract king crab's
smaller cousin, bairdi, to
reach their 50,000-pound quota.
All right.
Come on, baby. Come to papa.
[man] Whoo! It's a good pot.
Wait, what? What,
what, what? Oh.
- [Gregg] It's a good pot.
- [man] Yeah!
[Megan speaking]
[mumbles]
Hopefully the rest of
'em are just like this one.
Fifty-four. Five, four.
Nice!
[Gregg] It's a good one.
[man] Whoo!
Mmm-hmm!
[man] Let's go!
Now, we're on the...
Turns out they're reproducing.
Ain't that something?
[Gregg] No, that's pretty
good. I'm glad we made the set,
but don't get too c*ck.
[laughs heartily]
- Let's go, boys!
- [man exclaiming]
[Megan] Yeah, so looks like
we're catching crab by the fence.
[man] Sixty-three.
Good job, guys. Good job.
Let's get ready to set.
We need to get some
gear pile drive in there
and stay on top of them.
[Megan] Oh [bleep]
What happened?
[Megan] Aw [bleep]
me. [bleep] me.
- Something's wrong with Megan.
- [Megan crying]
- [Gregg] What happened?
- [Megan crying]
[Gregg] What happened?
No, I didn't see. I was
busy looking at the water.
- [Megan crying] -
[Gregg] Oh, my God.
[Megan] [bleep] me,
[bleep] me [bleep]
[crying]
- [man] Careful, guys.
- [Megan crying] Please dont...
[bleep] don't bounce her.
She slipped or something or...
[Bob] No, she was, like, crawling in
the pot, trying to get the crab and...
she was crawling
on it all funny.
- [Megan groans]
- [bleep]
[crying]
[groaning]
I'm gonna go see what's
going on down there.
[Gregg] Thank you.
[bleep] damn it!
[Megan groans]
My hip just popped.
[man] Yeah, don't,
don't use your legs.
- Just hop. You know what I mean?
- [Megan groans]
[Gregg] My baby
is out there in pain.
[groans]
[Megan groaning]
[crying]
[narrator] On the Seabrooke...
- [Bob speaking] -
[Megan speaking]
[groans]
- [Bob speaking]
- [Megan] Huh?
- Your hip isn't in?
- [Megan] Uh-uh.
[groans]
This is what happened for cod.
I actually fell and
dislocated my hip.
[bleep]
[Bob speaking]
[Megan speaking]
[groaning]
[bleep]
[Megan speaking]
- [man] Let go of her.
- [man 2] Let her go?
Hey, I got Meg just laying
down over in the Four Peak area.
She's having a hard
time getting around.
Oh [bleep]
[Gregg] Hey, you guys,
[bleep] that bait right now.
Get these three
pots out of the way
and get her inside, please.
[man] Rog!
[exhaling]
Okay, right up.
[Megan groaning]
No, no, no, no.
[groaning]
[sobbing]
[Gregg] She's
coming in right now.
[Bob] Okay.
- [Megan groans]
- [bleep]
[Bob] Your leg's
got to be straight.
[Megan speaking]
[Gregg] I love my daughter.
But I don't know
what to do about her.
All right, let's go, guys.
Is she all right?
[Bob] She's hurting pretty bad.
[Megan groans]
[Bob] I think it's a good
idea to get some rest on it.
The thing is, with
a hip dislocation,
it could get serious fast.
But we'll cross that
bridge when it comes.
[man] It's a good pot.
[Gregg] We got
to get this caught.
[narrator] 150 miles northeast.
[man] Whoo!
Yeah, baby!
Oh, yeah. Got to be a hit.
That's a good one.
[narrator] On the Time Bandit.
I can slow her down.
More bags right there, Neil.
Ooh, just got in a
bunch of gear here.
That's how we want, baby!
[man speaking]
[man] That's an NW.
- Is that Northwestern?
- [man 2] Yes.
[man] We haven't
been out here 12 hours.
Northwestern's
already following us.
[man 2] Oh, yeah,
it's all over the place.
There's a string running
right through here.
Oh, God.
That's a sick,
handsome pot right there.
Stand by.
[man] Roger!
[Johnathan] Northwestern's
sitting right on top of us here.
Johnny.
[Johnathan speaking]
You guys got some gear
right on top of me here.
We're 35 miles from you.
You guys got gear
here, I guarantee you.
Got your core?
If you were here.
Can you give me the buoy
bag numbers off those pots?
Hey, what's that
pot number, Freddy?
[Freddy] What do we got?
[man] J25.
J25.
Those are the
pots that Jack stole.
Stole your gear.
Stole 15 brand new pots from us,
took them out,
and is currently...
Wow.
- I'm a hero. I found your lost gear.
- [chuckles]
[laughs]
What's the plan here?
[Jake speaking]
[Johnathan speaking]
Okay, guys...
[Freddy] Okay.
[man] Roger that.
[Johnathan] Wow.
Got some ba*ls.
Take some of these
gear off the dock.
[man] Oh, boy.
Coming up.
Yeah, there we go.
[Johnathan speaking]
[Jake] Got some
crab in ours, John.
Save a little room for us,
because we're coming up there
with a full deck load.
We're going to
cornrow that place.
[Johnathan speaking]
[Jake speaking]
Okay, thanks, man.
So we had a little incident.
We got a pot, people.
We're going to have to
take care of her, guys.
[Monty speaking]
And I got a good
spot to set these.
- [man 1] Roger.
- [man 2] Roger.
[narrator] 25 miles
north, on the Wizard.
[Freddy] Here we go.
[screams]
Save them. [bleep]
[crew screaming]
[indistinct]
Roger, Roger, Roger.
The pot is loaded.
[cheering]
[indistinct]
[Monty] 46.2 degrees.
[Keith] 46.2, that's where
those crabs should be.
[man] I'm certainly
looking that way.
[Keith] Up this
little gully here.
I think it's going to be real
similar on these contour lines
on temperatures.
Stand by, guys.
Two-tenths a mile.
We're going to set one
of the temp sensors.
[narrator] With his goose
neck string paying out
to the tune of $6,000 a pot...
[Keith] I'm going to
set a pot and haul it,
get the temperature
off the bottom.
If this next sensor
comes up like the last one,
we should be good to go.
[narrator] ...Captain Keith
sets and hauls a test pot
ahead of the migrating school
to scout how far the crab
rich temperature extends.
OJ, OJ, OJ!
Just put this on
the pot, close it.
I'm going to dump it
and then haul it, okay?
That way I can find out
what the temperature
is right now, okay?
[Cody] Yeah.
We're getting dialed right now.
[OJ] Yeah.
[man] OJ, coming up.
- [shouting] - [Keith]
Oh, here we go.
[man speaking]
[Keith] The 46th of a quarter
way is where the best numbers are.
I say we go back,
bring some over here,
and see if we hit the [bleep]
mother lode over here.
[man] Yeah.
We got a tangled.
We got somebody else's
bag tangled up, guys.
There's a bunch of poly
with this tangled pot floating
on purpose.
[groans] Well.
[indistinct]
[bleep]
[Keith speaking]
[man] It just passed our
setup here, just past the bag.
There's a bunch of
poly on the surface.
All right, I'm backing
down. You know...
[bleeping]
I'm backing down. You know what?
I'm getting pulled
off this in the current.
The last thing I need
is a bunch of poly
in my wheel right now,
because some guy doesn't
know how deep it is here,
and he's got too much line.
[man] Cap, you're getting
light near the wheel again.
Thrust, thrust, thrust.
[man] We just got one
more wrap on this tangle,
and we're almost clear.
Coming up here.
- [man 1] All right.
- [man 2] Okay, that looks good.
[man 1] The tangle is clear.
Tangle is clear.
[man] Yeah.
[Keith] All right, here we go.
[man speaking]
[bleep]
Hey, guys, I got
smoke in the bow.
Smoke in the bow.
[man] Whoa.
Holy [beep]
[Keith] Guys, we got
something going on over here.
All right?
[indistinct]
No, no, no.
Whoa.
[indistinct shouting]
[narrator] On the Wizard.
Hey, guys, I got
smoke in the bow.
Smoke in the bow.
[man] Whoa.
Holy [beep]
[Keith] Guys, we got
something going on over here.
All right?
- [man] Whoa.
- [bleep]
[man] Whoa. What do we got?
No, no, no.
- [indistinct shouting]
- Whoa.
[inaudible]
[Keith speaking]
I need to know who is on deck.
[bleeping]
Tyler!
Tyler!
Was Tyler on deck, or
is Tyler down right now.
[man speaking]
[man 2 speaking]
[man speaking]
Tyler!
[man speaking]
[Keith] Can you get
down there or no?
Not yet. No...
[screaming]
[Keith] Get the crane.
Get that hatch, all right?
- [man] Go.
- [man 2] Somebody unhook me here.
[Keith] Get everything
ready. Get the...
Get ready to lift
that hatch, okay?
[man] Ready.
[indistinct]
Pop the hatch.
Get the hatch off there, okay?
[man] Coming up!
[indistinct shouting]
[Keith] Come on, guys,
get him out. Get him out!
[man] Get out of there!
[Keith speaking]
- [man speaking]
- [man 2] Tyler!
[man] Tyler!
[Keith] Get him out of there.
[man speaking]
[all screaming]
[man] Up on the hook!
- [screaming]
- [inaudible]
[coughing]
- We got him?
- [indistinct]
[coughing]
[man] Get him inside.
- Close that thing up. Close the hatches up.
- [coughing]
[indistinct]
[indistinct]
[man speaking]
[inaudible]
[man] Head count is good.
[indistinct]
[Keith speaking]
- [man] Help get him in there.
- [coughing]
[coughing]
[Keith] Do we have a head
count, do we have everybody?
[man] Roger, we have everybody.
We're getting Tyler
inside right now.
[coughing]
[inaudible]
[coughing]
[man] Here, take your shirt off.
[coughing]
[man speaking]
All right, guys.
[sniffles]
[man] Sit back down.
Sit back down.
[coughing]
[Roger] Going down to
get a simple trailer line.
The next thing you know,
we got to pull
him out of the fire.
And cap's set off the CO2,
so we got to wait
a while till we can
get back down there and assess.
[stutters] I... I...
I'm confident that
we put that fire out
with our CO2 system,
but I...
I just about watched
my best friend's son...
[narrator] 15 miles northeast.
Aboard the Northwestern.
[sighs]
[Sig] What's going on here?
- [splashes] - [Jake]
We made a little detour.
[Sig] Why?
You see that bag?
- Those are the stolen pots.
- Oh!
John called me and told me
that he saw our stuff up here.
So I put the rest of the
gear on and I ran up here.
[seagulls squawking]
- I'll take him on.
- That's amazing.
[waves crashing]
[Sig] Can I grab the
seat for a second?
[Jake] Yeah.
- [Sig] Thank you.
- Yeah.
Hey, Johnny.
[Johnathan over radio]
Yeah, go ahead, Sig.
[Sig over radio] We've
got some b*ll*ts on deck.
I want to cornrow
this whole place
and lock it up.
Perfect. Perfect, man.
[over radio] I'm a*s in on this.
Lay it on black.
[laughs]
[Sig] Thank you, buddy.
It's fun to do this, even if
it isn't for a good reason.
But this is for a really
damn good reason.
- [over radio] Karma.
- [Sig] Yep.
Lay 'em in the right tight.
[man] Roger.
[Sig] Cornrow.
[blows whistle]
Ready! Going over.
[Sig] Johnathan's right here.
He's gonna help us, too.
So we're gonna
make offense, man.
There's no way anybody
else is getting in here.
- [man 1] Yeah!
- [man 2] Yeah!
[Sig] Just get in the
launcher, get it ready.
- [man 1] Yeah, baby!
- [man 2] Yeah!
[Sig] Bring it on,
boys! Bring it on!
Whoo-hoo!
Sig wanted me to box
the Pacific Mariner out,
so I'm gonna set right
where Sig told me to.
Okay. [grunting]
Come back loaded, baby!
[indistinct]
- [hinges creaking]
- [splashes]
Yeah! Whoo!
[Johnathan] Jack, Jack,
Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack.
That's just a
weird word, "Jack."
It rhymes with a lot
of bad stuff. Bad back,
blood crack, scalliwag.
You ever happen to shin whack?
That feels good.
No, Jack's gonna have a heart
attack, dude, when he sees this.
[man] Yeah!
[Johnathan over radio] That's
another bad word that rhymes with Jack.
Heart attack.
[Sig] It's not every day you
get free prospecting done.
[all cheering]
- Damn!
- [clangs]
I mean, it spun around.
It went right
back in their face.
All they did was find us crab.
- [man 1 speaking
indistinctly] - [man 2] Yeah!
- Yeah!
- Yeah!
[Jake] We're gonna
grit everything off
and basically soak this crab up
with a vacuum cleaner.
[man] Throw it over!
[whooping]
Yeah, buddy!
[chuckles] Oh, yeah!
[whooping]
[narrator] 150 miles southwest
on the western
bairdi crab grounds...
[man] Yoo!
This is all nice-looking crab.
- Just got to stay on top of it.
- [seagulls squawking]
[narrator] ...aboard
the Seabrooke.
[Bob] Meg is hurting pretty bad.
I don't know, would ice help?
- [crying] - [Bob] She's gonna
have to put it back in its socket.
Are you a doctor?
No, but she said she
looked it up on Wiki one time.
So get her laid... [chuckles]
Laid down on her back
and then, I don't
know, you grab her foot,
you push it in or whatever.
So she went to
YouTube University
and got her doctor's degree.
- Yes, she did.
- Okay, got ya.
[narrator] Two days into her
first Bering Sea bairdi haul,
Captain Bob prepares
for another first.
"How to put a hip
back in its socket?"
[narrator] Fixing
the dislocated hip
of her co-captain's
daughter, Megan Wallace,
to get the deck
back to full strength.
We can simply push
the ball back in by hand
if the patient is
under anesthesia.
Oh, that means it's
just going to hurt.
- I get that.
- Yeah, it means it's going to hurt pretty bad.
But honestly, I don't...
I am not a medical professional,
and I know nothing about it.
- I'll do my best.
- Thank you.
[splashing]
The videos that I saw
was to put your thumbs
on your hips like this
and then you have to sit forward
and that action right there
is supposed to pop
it back into place.
It might work.
But it's gonna
hurt like a b*tch.
Okay, just try it.
Just try it, just try it.
[Bob] Just... Okay, but I
don't know what I'm doing.
[whirring]
[yelling]
[Bob] Where's your
hip bone? Right here?
Okay. Go slow, go fast?
[Megan speaking indistinctly]
Yeah, let it go. Keep going,
keep going, keep going.
[groans in pain]
Yeah. [sobbing]
[Bob] I'm so sorry, Meg.
I don't mean to hurt you.
- [Megan crying]
- Oh.
Oh, that's her yelling.
- [bird squawking] -
[Megan continues crying]
[narrator] On the Seabrooke...
[Megan] Yeah, let it go. Keep
going, keep going, keep going.
[groans in pain]
Yeah. [sobbing]
[bleep]
[Bob] I'm so sorry, Meg.
I don't mean to hurt you.
- [Megan crying]
- Oh.
Oh, that's her yelling.
- [Bob] Anything?
- No.
[Bob] You want to try it again?
[Megan groans, bleeps]
[crying]
[groans in pain]
I can feel it.
[groans] Keep going. Keep going.
[groans]
[crying]
Keep going.
[crying]
- [bone cracks]
- [Bob] Whoa!
Was that it?
[Megan crying]
[Bob] Whoa!
Do you feel better?
[Megan] Mm.
Doesn't hurt as bad
as I'm laying here.
[Bob] You want some
ibuprofen or something?
- [Megan] Yeah.
- Okay.
You're a [bleep] trooper, dawg.
[Megan moans]
[Bob] Can't believe I just
put your hip back in its socket.
That's nutso.
Pain relief.
And there's this half
drinking water on the floor.
That's all yours.
I don't know whose it is,
- but we all got...
- [Megan speaking]
[Bob] I felt that pop.
I [bleep] heard it. I felt it.
You gotta take it
easy for a second.
[whooping]
What's going on? How's it going?
[Bob] Good. I got that
hip back into place.
I heard the yelling
and screaming.
So it's back in place?
It's back in place,
but she's super sore.
You know, it's probably
best for her just to, like,
take it easy on her
hip for a little bit.
She's hurting pretty bad.
[Greg] Thank you for that.
I could barely handle the
screaming from up here.
- This is my baby, so...
- [Bob] She's a trooper.
And I will take crew into town
for medical
emergencies like that.
So it really sucks to go in.
I mean, if we have to,
we have to save her.
We'll see if it
comes to that point.
[narrator] 130
miles northeast...
on the Wizard.
[Roger] It's obvious
where it started.
The hot starter on thruster.
Careful. That's [bleep] warm.
And the wires from
the thruster ignited this,
which is poly, and
that stuff burns.
And then these
paint cans, obviously,
was what exploded.
[Roger] I mean, we're lucky
that we could discharge
CO2 in here to suffocate it.
If we didn't have that,
I don't know what
would have happen.
[Roger] We're still floating.
I guess that that's
all that really matters.
[Keith] We dodged
a b*llet here, man.
I've never had a fire like
that on the boat before.
I was terrified.
[splashing]
That chain of events
should have never started.
We never used
the thruster at sea.
We turned the thruster on
because some dip [bleep]
decided to set gear
with three shots on it.
It should've never happened.
We got lucky there.
As far as I can tell,
we can continue to fish.
All right, guys.
[continues speaking]
[waves crashing]
We tested these bottom sensors
to see if we could
find a pattern
as to the temperature
that they like down there.
If my theory is right,
we'd sh**t 'em right
through here, east to west.
[waves crashing]
[narrator] Captain
Keith prepares to set
a 50-pot string in a gully
with the same 46.2
degree bottom temperature
as his opening prospect pots,
betting that the school extends
into the neighboring biome.
[Keith over radio]
Get ready to set
because this stack is
coming off right here.
[man] Fire at will.
- [metal clanks]
- Whoo!
With any luck, knowing
the bottom temperature
is gonna make this
a faster fishery for us.
That's what we're after.
[splashes]
Get in, get out and
get our crab caught.
[man] Going over!
[Keith] Hopefully, these sensors
are gonna be the advantage we need.
[waves crashing]
[narrator] 15 miles northeast...
Well, he ought to
be getting close.
[Jack] Hopefully it's loaded.
- You can pull some crab out of 'em.
- [Harley chuckles] Right?
I'm kinda getting
goosebumps, buddy.
[narrator] ...aboard
the Pacific Mariner...
[waves crashing]
[Jack] You got anything
out your window there?
[seagulls squawking]
[Harley] Uh, well, there's
something over there,
up to our port.
You see that one?
Uh, yeah, I got it.
What's the number on that one?
[Harley] I think, uh, 22-alpha.
- [Jack] 22...
- Yeah, 22-alpha. I can see it real clear.
[Jack] No.
No, that... That's
not what we set.
But we're right on
top of where we were.
[Harley] There is the
Time Bandit right there.
That's another
Northwestern string.
That's not the one you set.
And those guys have been in here
since we've been here.
[Jack] Huh.
[man] Well, it's
the Northwestern.
And, uh, Time Bandit.
What the hell?
Well, I just love
this situation.
[Jake] This is
hillbilly fun right here.
[laughs]
Johnny, can you
believe this guy?
Payback's a b*tch.
We're gonna have a pot thief.
We're gonna have
to take care of it, guys.
[man over radio] Roger that.
[Johnathan] Sad sack, Jack.
Okay, we're going
stealth mode, guys.
[man] Oh, no!
Be very, very, very
quiet for Jacks...
Jacks can be very,
very unpredictable.
Uh, Northwestern?
Pacific Mariner.
[Sig over radio] I got ya.
[Jack] Um, seem to be
missing some pots here.
Well, I wouldn't worry
too much about it.
They're in a good spot
and well taken care of.
Uh, I'd kind of like to haul 'em
and get my crab out of 'em.
[Sig] Ah, don't worry.
I took care of that.
[chuckles] They were
mine to begin with.
[chuckles in surprise]
I'm setting my pots right now.
Get every [bleep] damn
crab out of this area.
[Jake] He said he has no idea.
[Sig laughs]
Oh.
Silly boy.
I've been doing this since 1988.
It ain't gonna happen.
All right, boys, we're
gonna set these in here
as tight as we can.
Get ready to set this.
[Sig murmuring indistinctly]
[man] Wow, wow, wow.
[Sig] This guy thinks
he's gonna set here.
He's such an a*s [bleep].
[man] Hey, throw it over.
[man 2] Yeah!
Whoo!
[Jake speaking]
[beeping]
[Sig] Guys, get ready.
We're gonna haul
Jack's pots in, okay?
- [man over radio] Roger!
- [man 2] Roger.
[Sig] Oh, my God,
this is hilarious.
[man] Okay, coming up.
[laughs]
[Harley] Jack, they're...
They're taking our pot.
[whimsical music playing]
- [whirring]
- [man] Here we go.
[yelling]
[indistinct shouting]
Thanks a lot, Harley.
Take that, [bleep]!
[bleep] Oh, my God.
Oh.
[Johnathan] Uh, I wouldn't...
I don't know what I would do
if someone stole my gear.
They used to hang
the horse thieves.
Let's fire some warning
shots from around the bow.
[Jack] Set these spots
as fast as you can, guys.
Get them in there tight.
[man] Roger that!
[indistinct shouting]
[Jake] He's gonna
keep setting pots?
Jackie, stop!
Stop! You're
hurting yourself now.
You're supposed to look
behind you, too, when you set.
[laughs over radio]
[effort grunts]
[man] We got it.
[man 2] Yeah!
[man 3] Yeah!
[groans]
[Harley] We just
keep stacking them on.
[Jack] Son of a b*tch!
[Johnathan] Why would
you keep setting it on
when someone's
picking it right back up?
Get ready. Get in your arms.
Arm yourself,
full metal jackets.
Full metal jackets.
Dude, Johnny's gonna get him.
[snorting]
[seagulls squawking]
[Bob] Let's get you
to your bunk, dude.
[Bob] Oh, okay.
[Megan speaking]
[Bob chuckles]
[Megan speaking]
[Bob] Yeah. You should
definitely get your face off of that.
It's just... You gotta
take it easy for a second.
You can't just
eat and go to bed.
[Megan speaking]
You still haven't showered?
You're a disgusting human being.
We're on, like, day six.
Yeah, you should shower.
Maybe that'll make
your hip feel better.
[narrator] Nothing wrong
with getting a little dirty
while doing your job.
Wear that stench proud, Megan.
[Johnathan] Get in your arms.
Arm yourself,
full metal jackets.
Ready, guys?
Roger!
[Jake] Derby season brings
out the worst in people.
Stealing somebody's gear
is about as bad as it can get.
But payback's a b*tch.
Attack mode.
He's gonna kick your a*s, man.
[Harley] Time
Bandit's right there.
Three... two, one.
Fire cannons!
[Jack] Holy [bleep]!
Oh, man.
Gotta go right over
the bow right now.
- Yeah, baby!
- Whoo!
[Johnathan] Light it up.
Yeah!
- Yeah!
- [Jack] This is ridiculous.
[Jake chuckling] Oh, my God!
Oh, my God. This is comedy.
[Jack] Unbelievable.
"Mom, the derby was a
lot harder than I thought."
[both laughing]
[Jack over radio]
Good job, guys.
Let's go find some
crab someplace else.
We don't want to
mess with this [bleep].
Man.
[over radio] All right, guys.
- Hey. - You can clear the deck.
We're out of here.
Oh...
[Jake] He's running away.
Dude, never a dull moment.
[laughs]
I got your back, Sig.
They're running scared now.
[Sig over radio]
Thank you, buddy.
[Johnathan] Right.
[Sig] I know the guys are
full of spunk, and I get it.
That's what makes
a good fisherman.
But you know, time and a place,
[smacks lips]
you cross the line,
you're gonna get
spanked. Just the way it is.
[Harley] Let me see that, mate.
Hey, Sig, it's me.
Hey, we'll get
out of here. Just...
Just give us our
pots back, okay?
[Sig] Oh, don't worry. You're
gonna get the bearings.
I'm just not gonna
steal 'em like he did.
So I'll get you the bearing.
[Harley] We just
want our pots back.
[narrator] 16 miles southwest...
[Keith over radio] Here we go.
[narrator] ...on the Wizard...
I've been looking
all over the place
trying to track bottom temps.
I think I'm starting
to see a pattern,
so we shall see.
[whooping and cheering]
I don't know. I don't know.
- [man] Let's go.
- [man 2] Whoo!
It does look good.
That sensor is registering.
The bottom temperature's
the Wizard's secret weapon.
And I'm gonna
stay on those traps.
Yeah!
Look at that pot.
Yeah, look at that pot!
Yeah!
[man] Load 'em up,
baby, load 'em up!
[Keith] Yeah, baby!
Let's get the crabs.
Bail 'em up and dump 'em back.
Dump 'em back.
Thank God I'm here today.
We're here right now
for this year, 2023,
red king crab season.
Hey, hey, buddy.
Sig, you got me?
[Sig] Hey, I got you,
John. How's it going?
We got a cornrow
better than anybody
who can ever cornrow.
[Sig] Thanks, buddy.
We appreciate it.
[man] Yeah, buddy!
[Sig] I'm really glad that
John was around to help.
You know, eagle eye.
It makes a big
difference, you know,
when, uh, you got another guy
out there watching your back.
- [man] There we go!
- [man 2] Oh, yeah.
[man] That's what
I'm talking about.
Got 'em!
[man over radio] Forty-one, 4-1.
You're all right. We're in 'em.
[Sig] Now we're gonna
do a little damage.
What do you call that? Karma.
Or is it just payback?
- [all cheering]
- [man] Big time!
[Sig] Thank you, Jack.
[laughs]
[Jake] Oh, my God.
[Jack over radio] Make
sure we stack these tight.
Roger!
We're moving the
whole thing down, so...
And all subject to
change, of course.
There's a big ocean.
We'll go find another spot.
[grunts in frustration]
[man] There's
some crab in there.
[over radio] Making money.
[man 2] Yeah, look at that pot!
What's Meg doing?
Get better, Meg, get better!
[Megan] I needed to ice my hip.
Like, it swelled
up like a balloon
after it got popped back in.
[Bob] Hopefully, it doesn't
stop us from fishing.
She's super sore. I
don't know... [indistinct]
Well, there's only one way
to get rid of that soreness.
Put her back out on deck?
- Well, yeah.
- Yes, sir.
[Greg] We're catching
a little bit of crab,
and we need some help out there.
[Jake] Hey, Jenna.
[Jenna speaking over phone]
Yeah.
[Jenna speaking]
[Jake] No way.
[Jenna] Uh-huh.
That super nice boat.
[Jenna] Mm-hmm.
[Jenna speaking]
Will you text me the information
and I'll call?
[Jenna] Mm-hmm.
[Jake] But I really
don't want to tell Sig.
[Jake] Here we go.
- [man] Oh, yeah!
- [whooping]
[Sig] I hired you
here as a favor to you.
I feel like I've already
been stabbed in the back.
[all cheering]
[bleep] yeah!
[Bill] Crabbing, crabbing.
You've got to be able to
adapt and a lot of the veterans,
they're always gonna
have a little bit of an edge.
Yeah, [bleep] you, Jack!
Go back to being a sneaky
Pete with your [bleep] mentor!
But then you've
got the new guys,
they're usually fiery,
they've got a lot of energy.
Catfight. [hisses]
So relaxed. So calm.
Reel, reel, reel, reel, reel!
[groans]
[Jake] It's fishing.
It's not catching.
I don't know how
to emotionally react
when it doesn't go so good.
- Tyler.
- [grunts]
Porter's down.
- Whoa!
- [bleep]
It's like a...
Watch out! Watch out! Watch out!
[man] Whoa!
[Jake] You okay?
[ambulance siren wailing]
- [beeps]
- [man speaking indistinctly]
