in our first story dave coulier reads

one quick cookie i'll run and run as

fast as i can

man

then join merial hemingway for a story

about a quiet cricket who can't

chirp little cricket wanted to answer so

he

wrapped his wings together

but nothing happened not a sound

and a young boy who desperately wishes

to whistle

he looked into the mirror to practice

whistling

still no whistle

oh i'm wearing this disguise so that

nobody will know that i'm

keno because today i

am a secret agent

hmm secret agent think anyone will know

oh nobody will know nobody will know not

even my mom would know that it's me

i can't wait till lucy gets here

well i don't know if she starts asking

too many questions i'm gonna have to

leave i can't hold a uh

secret for very long oh hi dave oh

hi lucy um

what's your name uh

my name yes your name

you do have a name don't you uh

sure i have a name everybody has a name

what is it it's uh it's uh

matt matt mack what duh

uh mac a roni

mac a-roni yeah mac-a-roni

huh yup yup yup is that an italian name

well i like pizza and spaghetti

hmm kino also loves

pizza i'm thinking this is really kino

in disguise

um have either one of you seen quino by

any chance

well uh um uh you see uh

kino just left yeah did

did he leave a message no uh he just

said

to read some good stories if you have

them

oh that's very strange he never

ever leaves when we're going to have a

story time

i wonder what happened oh oh well

yeah now what do i do i'd really like to

hear another story but if i ask too much

lucy will know that i'm keno and i won't

be a

secret agent anymore hmm well can't you

be a secret agent who likes books

well what do you think we should do

should we wait for keno

or should we have dave read the

gingerbread man oh well that's easy

let's hear the story let's go oh

my goodness you sounded just like keno

ah um uh oops uh you see

uh kino and i uh we sometimes hang out

together

yeah we do we hang together

oh well what should we do

well for sure i think we should ask dave

to read us the story yep that's what we

should do uh-huh

um all right but i think we should make

sure that keno gets a chance to hear it

sometime

oh that's not a problem because i will

personally make sure

that kino hears this story

even secret agents like story books she

doesn't even know i'm really keno

okay well this is the story of the

The Gingerbread Man

gingerbread man

retold by eric a kimmel illustrated

by megan lloyd

once upon a time an old woman and an old

man decided to make some gingerbread

first they mixed up the dough then they

rolled it out on the table

then they cut the dough into the shape

of a gingerbread man

the old woman and the old man put the

gingerbread man in the oven to bake he

baked for a good

long time when he was done the old woman

and the old man

let him cool a little then they

decorated him

with two licorice eyes a mouth made of

icing

and three peppermint buttons down the

front of his shirt

as soon as they put on the last

peppermint button

up jumped the gingerbread man

to their surprise he leaped off the

table and ran out the door

uh come back gingerbread man come back

the old woman and the old man called as

they ran after him

but the gingerbread man ran faster

i'll run and run as fast as i can you

can't catch me

i'm the gingerbread man

well down the road ran the gingerbread

man he ran past the pigsty where the old

sow

lay ah slow down gingerbread man

i want to talk to you the old sow oinked

and she started running after the

gingerbread man

but the gingerbread man ran faster i'll

run and run as fast as i can

you can't catch me i'm the gingerbread

man

i ran from the woman i ran from the man

i'll run from you see if i can

well down the road ran the gingerbread

man he ran past the dog house

the dog wagged his tail slow down

gingerbread man

i want to talk to you the dog barked

and he started running after the

gingerbread man

but the gingerbread man ran faster i'll

run and run as fast as i can you can't

catch me

i'm the gingerbread man i ran from the

woman

i ran from the man i'll run from you see

if i can

well down the road ran the gingerbread

man he ran

past the pasture where the horse and the

cows stood grazing the horse made

the cow mood uh slow down gingerbread

man

we want to talk to you and they started

running after the gingerbread man

but the gingerbread man ran faster i'll

run and run as fast as i can

you can't catch me i'm the gingerbread

man i ran from the woman i ran from the

man

i'll run from you see if i can

down the road ran the gingerbread man

with the horse the cow the dog and the

sow

the old woman and the old man running

behind him

the gingerbread man ran and ran until he

came to the river

there he stopped wondering what to do

hello gingerbread man a voice said

it was a fox the gingerbread man cried

i'll run and run as fast as i can you

can't catch me i'm the gingerbread man i

ran from the horse

i ran from the cow i ran from the dog i

ran from the sow

i ran from the woman i ran from the man

i'll

run from you see if i can

the fox chuckled why gingerbread man

well you don't have to run from me i'm

your friend

i want to help you

[Music]

well how can you help me the gingerbread

man asked the fox

hop on my tail the sly fox said

i'll carry you across the river you'll

be safe on the other side

well the gingerbread man hopped on the

fox's tail the fox

jumped in the river and started swimming

across

uh gingerbread man the water's rising

hop on my back so your feet don't get

wet the fox called out

the gingerbread man hopped on the fox's

back the fox swam on

after a while the fox said uh

gingerbread man

uh the water is still rising hop on my

head so your feet don't get wet

the gingerbread man hopped on the fox's

head

the fox swam on after a while the fox

said again

uh gingerbread man the water is still

rising hop on my snout so your feet

don't get wet

the gingerbread man hopped on the fox's

snout

but no sooner had he done that then

the fox threw back his head and snapped

up the gingerbread man in

one bite but don't be sad

for that was not the end of the

gingerbread man

the gingerbread man has gone away but

he'll be back

some other day for gingerbread men

return it said

when someone bakes some gingerbread

that is the old story of the gingerbread

man

oh that was great dave

great voices too but hey do you like

gingerbread cookies

i love them well yes but my favorite are

macaroons

oh macaroons sounds like mac's name

mac a roni

yeah uh well i've um i've got to go

oh so soon yeah i'm uh

gonna go on a secret mission to um i'm

looking for some very

important books uh yeah well then uh you

better go then dave cause this is like

very important business what

are you two talking about uh it's a

secret mission for books

he's gotta go bye dave uh bye lucy bye

A Little Cricket

cricket okay let's do it let's do it

one warm day and a tiny egg

a little cricket was born

welcome chirped a big cricket rubbing

his wings together little cricket

wanted to answer so he wrapped swings

together

but nothing happened not a sound

good morning whiz to locust

spitting through the air the little

cricket

he wanted to answer so he

rubbed his wings together but nothing

happened

hello

whispered the praying mantis scraping

its huge

front legs together

oh boy a little cricket he

right crunched a worm

munching its way out of an apple

i'm the bumblebee

flying from flower to flower

oh gosh a little crickety

he wanted to answer so he rubbed his

wings together

good evening where'd a dragonfly

gliding above the water

a little cricket wanted to answer so he

wrapped his wings together

buzz the mosquitoes dancing among the

stars

[Music]

hello cricket wanted

to answer so he robbed his

wings together

but nothing happened not a sound

a luna moth

sail quietly through the night

and the cricket enjoy

the stillness

as the luna moth disappeared silently

into the distance

the cricket saw another cricket

she too was a very quiet

qriket

then he rubbed his wings together

one more time

and this time

wow he chirped the most

beautiful sound she had ever

heard wow what a

great story the end

that was great i'm so happy for the

little cricket

yeah the little cricket has a very

special sound

how about you do you have a special

sound

yeah oh meow yeah

my school teacher what's your special

now

what's that of course is that yours

or is that a horse's special sound

oh i can snap my fingers

oh cool can you whistle

i can whistle

can you listen hey can you win something

oh

good how about you

[Laughter]

guess what what i can whistle in english

and spanish

really well let's hear it okay

pretty good huh i did it here

i didn't either the reason you didn't

hear

anything is that it is a whistle that

only dogs can hear

ah is that so oh well then

you are gonna love this next story why

because it's about a little boy who

wants to learn

to whistle to his dog oh what's the

story called

it's called a whistle for willy willy's

the dog's name

and it's written by ezra jack keats

A Whistle for Willy

oh how peter wished he could whistle

he saw a boy playing with his dog

whenever the boy whistled

[Music]

the dog ran straight to him

peter tried and tried to whistle

but he couldn't so instead

he began to turn himself around

turn around and around faster and faster

and faster and faster

when he stopped everything turned

down and up and up and down

and round

[Music]

peter saw his dog willy coming quick as

a wink

he hid in an empty carton lying on the

sidewalk

wouldn't it be funny if i whistled peter

thought

willy would stop and look around to see

who it was

peter tried again to whistle

ugh but still he couldn't

so willie just walked on

peter got out of the carton and started

home on the way

he took some colored chalks out of his

pocket and he drew a long

long line and he did a circle

right up to his door he stood there

and he tried to whistle again

he blew till his cheeks were tired

nothing happened

he went into his house and he put on his

father's old hat to make himself feel

more grown

up he looked into the mirror to practice

whistling

still no whistle

when his mother saw what he was doing

peter pretended that he was his father

he said

i've come home early today dear is peter

here

his mother dancer why no he's outside

with willy

well i'll go look for him then said

peter

first he walked along a crack in the

sidewalk

then he tried to run away from his

shadow

he jumped off his shadow but when he

landed bam

they were together again he came to the

corner where the carton was

and who should he see but really

peter scrambled under the carton he blew

in blue and blue

and suddenly out came a

real whistle

willie stopped to look around and see

who it was

it's me peter shouted and stood up

willie raced right to him

peter ran home to show his father and

mother what he could do

they loved peter's whistling so did

willie

peter's mother asked him and willie to

go on an errand to the grocery store

he whistled all the way there

and he whistled all the way home

you're tricky the end

that was great that was terrific

yeah what do you think was the first

thing

that peter did when he got home

what do you do he whistled he whistled

yeah i think that when peter got home he

practiced his whistling

you know some of my friends don't know

how to whistle can you show them how to

do it

well can you show them how

you show them how to whistle it huh come

on let's show them

oh yeah lips together

did you can you do it and then the

tongue kind of goes in a circle

that's really smooth i have a question

what's the letter that hurts you the

most

i don't know okay here's the answer you

ready

the bee because it can sting you

so it was you all the time

uh oops you see i was pretending to be a

secret agent

oh oh kino you had us

completely fooled we were all wondering

where you were

oh i was here all along and you didn't

even know me

oh yes

you had us completely fooled

yeah oh let's not forget our story picks

i'd like to recommend who k*lled

a mystery for secret agents

and i brought this one to recommend miss

rumphius

just like the quiet cricket and peter

miss rumphius is looking for something

special takes her a long time to find it

but

when she does she is very very happy
