"the hills have eyes?"

this is the town where
the creepy people are from.

We're in ely, nevada.

This town was discovered
back in 1878

by a guy named j.W. Long,
who was from vermont.

He discovered gold here,
but then the town kind of grew

and it became a stagecoach stop
for the pony express.

But it didn't become
a huge boom-town until 1906,

when copper was discovered here.

And one of the main hubs of
this town called ely is this...

The nevada northern
railway depot.

And let me tell you something,

[ g*nsh*t ]
there are documented
suicides here.

There's a documented m*rder.

There's countless violent
accidents that occurred here.

But the real reason I'm
excited to be here...

They have something here
called the ghost train of ely.

For the first time in
"ghost adventures" history,

we will be investigating
a moving train

that is notorious for having
passenger ghosts and traveling

through very haunted and
secluded ghost towns.

Following the invitation
to ride the ghost train,

aaron's strange enthusiasm
hits new heights.

Mark, the president, just told
us that we're gonna be able

to board that train and
investigate while it's moving.

And investigate?
While it's moving.

Oh, he must be really excited.

I've never seen him
hang in the air

that long enough on
a jump of excitement.

Aaron, blink if you can hear me.

While the excitement of my crew
is clearly at a bizarre peak,

I begin this ominous
journey by speaking with

a high-level member of the team

here at the historic
nevada northern railway.

So, I'm here with mark.
Mark is the man.

He is the president here
at the nevada northern railway.

So, have you experienced
hauntings here on this property?

Oh, yes. My office is in
the transportation building.

When I took over, they said
"oh, the building's haunted,"

and I go, "yeah, right."
and the building's haunted.

I was working. I felt like
someone was watching me,

and I turned around and in
a second-floor window,

there's a face looking at me.

Who is he?

We're not 100 percent sure.

Over the course of
a century, unfortunately,

a lot of people have
died here on the grounds.

How many people
have died here?




We now move into the dark
interiors of the rail yard

and talk to a young
nevada northern employee

who was literally
shaken to the core

by one of his many
disturbing experiences here.

Lennox: This room we're standing
in is the machine shop.

So what happened in here?

So I was standing right
there, at that sink.

I was washing my hands. Right
where I was standing, there,

something, whatever it was,
ran fast as possible past me,

step on both those
plates, and take off.

How do you know that
this wasn't a human being?

I didn't see anyone.

When you hear about an entity
using its great strength

to disturb our world
enough to be noticed,

to actually feel
their presence...

That they can generate
enough energy

to make steel plates echo...

Then you know, you're dealing
with something

exceptionally compelling,
and it's alarming.

We immediately conduct
an investigation

to see if anything
is near us right now.

I saw, like, this light
that was here and it went

and it went right through
here at the same time that

that noise happened.

Aim a light over there, please,

sh**t regular vision.

appear as a visual light?

Billy: I saw that.

Just as I said
that I saw something.

It was like a flickering
light thing, just like you said.

Zak: On my command, this
strange, moving ball of light

intelligently manifests,
then vanishes into thin air.

This is most definitely
not an insect.

Oh, I'm getting
goosebumps right now.

Let me take
these readings.
Billy: That was crazy.

I'm just feeling it right
now where I saw it.

Something is happening.

Zak: There is no
denying the presence here.

With the energy generated

I will not go into the engine
house at night by myself.

So, the very first time
I ever saw something,

it was after dark,
and I was sitting

on the steps of one
of the diesel locomotives,

and for some reason,
I just looked up

and I saw a guy in overalls
walk across the engine house

and into the dark back shops.
If you're in here working

and you're by yourself,
you're not alone.

[ clinking ]
you hear tools moving.
You hear footsteps.

[ indistinct speech ]
you hear voices
in the next room,

and it really feels,

especially when the steam
locomotives are hot,

it feels like the place
is still alive

and the guys are still working

and doing what they did


Con offers to tell the story
of another full-body apparition,

this one seen by multiple
people and lives on

one of the most well-preserved
and historic trains in the yard.

Coach 5 is known to
be one of the most

haunted and mysterious
train cars on the yard.

Thousands of people
from all over the world

slowly rolled into ely
on this daily passenger train

to work some of
the most dangerous jobs...

The railroad and the mines.
Some never returned.

This car was built in 1882.

This is a time when
they separated people

by families and single men,
and so this side,

with the velvet-covered seats,

is for the families
and the single women.

The little boy is seen on this
side, and then on that side...

We can't get him
to go over there.

We were over there.
We saw him over here

ducking between the seats.
So you actually saw him.

We see a little figure
darting...
multiple people?

Darting between the seats,
like he's hiding from us.

We tried to get him
to come to that side,

and he wouldn't go
through the door.

And that's when we realized

when he was alive,
he couldn't go over there.

That was for the single men.

[ door creaks ]
that was a place where
kids were not allowed,

and so he stays
on this side of car.

You wonder who who
these people were.

Who sat here?
Who sat here and here?

Who were these families?
What lives did they lead?

We'll come back
and investigate this.

The spirit of a lost, little boy
forever trapped on car 5

is no surprise in a place
riddled with tragedy.

Of the 18 deaths recorded here,

a few are worth note in regard
to their violent nature.

A nevada north railway employee
named anthony wells

was jumped and
viciously stabbed.

joseph labate shot
himself in the head

in a rail yard bunkhouse.

Then there was conductor
george haviland, who,

after a miscommunication while
trains were switching tracks,

[ whistle blows ]
simply jumped the wrong way,

only to be crushed and mangled
to a frightful extent.

Zak: Where'd mark go?
Right here.

I meet up once again
with mark, who details

one of the most disturbing
deaths I have ever heard about,

while we stand in the exact
spot that it occurred.

During the day, 60
yard trains a day

went back and forth here.

Trains were made up
in this yard,

[ metal creaks ]
and when you make up
a train, you have to

whoa! Jeez. Open up the coupler,

and you never stand
between the cars.

I thought the train was gonna
fall apart on me or something.

Nope. Alright. Continue on.

Tragic thing was,
the person saw something

[ bell clanging ]
and he stepped
between the cars

and there's a second
car over here.

The engineer didn't
know he was here,

[ brakes squealing ]
and the cars came together

and the coupler dropped
[ metal clangs ]

and coupled right through
the center of his body.

[ thud ]

now, because of the compression,
he didn't bleed out.

He was still alive.

And this happened
right here.
It happened right here.

And they went
and got his family.

Whoa. No way, really? Yeah.

They brought his family
down to say their goodbyes,

and he was still talking,
but the train had to leave,

and so they opened
up the coupler.

And, course, when they
pulled the train apart,

there was no compression left
on the aorta and everything,

and so he just bled out
and died right there.

In front of his
family and everything?
Yeah.

and we're gonna go
to some other areas

where there are
other sightings of spirits.

This is day two of our
investigation at the

nevada northern railway depot.
We are getting ready to do

our very first
paranormal investigation

on a moving steam engine train
called the ghost train of ely.

This isn't a prop train.
This is a real steam engine.

We're gonna be going miles
out in the middle of nowhere,

through real ghost towns.

One of those places
is lane city.

There's ruins of
buildings there.

It was an old mining encampment.

And that's where people
have seen multiple apparitions

of chinese laborers who used to

work in the mines,
who were buried alive,

and dozens of people
aboard the ghost train

have seen their apparitions
walking towards the ghost train.

Billy: Oh, yeah. Woo!

Aaron: h*-h*!

[ bell clanging ]

zak: Oh, here we go.
This is awesome.

[ bell clanging ]

Zak: So while we're on the
train, we do have mark with us,

who's the president of
the whole railway depot here.

He's right here,
if you remember him.

It got dark really fast,

so right now, we're
gonna go night vision.

Here we go!

Let the journey on
the ghost train begin.

Zak: As the train heads miles
out of town to our first stop,

the ghost town of lane city, we
begin investigating the train.

Stay there.

Billy: Okay.

Is there anybody
on board with us?

Can you show yourself?

[ squeaking ]

did somebody just whistle?

I thought I heard that, too,

these whistling sounds
are not paranormal.

We discover they are
being generated

by the moving parts
of the train.

"trip. Come. Wagon."
trip come wagon. Look.

What? Trip, wagon?

Is this considered a wagon?

Aaron receives some very
relevant words from the ovilus.

This was the stagecoach
stop. That's what ely was.

A wagon for the trails
of the stagecoach.

We now set up a mel meter
in the original passenger car

from 1926, to see if any spirits
will interact with us.

Can you light this up?

Billy: There it is!

Look, it just lit up blue.
It's only choosing blue.

Aaron: Soul! It
just said "soul."

soul? Like, a soul.

When I said, "light it up blue,"
like, only the blue lit up.

I was right on it.
It was bright.

And then it said "soul."
at the same time. Wow.

That's what I'm saying. Look!

"soul," it lit up again.

Only the blue. Is that
you doing this?

oh, there it is again!

This thing's going crazy.

zak: As we are receiving these

unexplained disruptions
in the emf field

being generated by the antenna,

I show everyone that this is
in no way being caused by us.

I'm just showing you that the
lights that were just captured,

it's not me.
It's not the camera.

See how close I'm
getting to this?

You have to
literally touch this.

So those lights to be going off,

something was
interfering with that.

As the train now heads into
this tunnel, we all get hit

with fiery ash and embers
from the burning coal,

so we head back inside
to the table where

we were just documenting
the emf activity

to see if we can make
further contact

to determine if this
is possibly a spirit.

And as aaron uses the sls
camera,

something incredible happens.

Billy: Was your
seat on the train?

Anything on sls?

Aaron: I've got it!

Stick figure on the top
of the chair, on the right.

It's on top of the chair.

Gone. Gone.

Zak:
A free-floating figure appears

on the seat
next to the mel meter.

There is also nothing
behind this figure

that could be causing
false-positive matrixing.

This is extremely compelling.

[ rattling ]

as we near our first stop,

I begin operating our thermal
camera to scan for apparitions.

This is scary right now,
because there is nothing.

You look around us 360 degrees,

you see nothing
but just pitch black.

And somewhere right here
is the ghost town of lane city.

The train now stops,
as we have arrived

out in the middle
of this dark abyss.

All of this feels like
some kind of dream

on an interdimensional
time-traveling train,

led by this man in overalls
with an oil-burning lantern

who tells us that chinese miners
were k*lled in this mine,

and their bodies were left
entombed inside.

The chainman mine was being
mined by chinese miners,

and there was a cave-in,
and management decided

that it wasn't worth
digging them out,

and they left them
entombed there.

And people, as they
drive us-50 at night,

have actually seen the chinese
miners out next to the roadway.

In fact, stephen king,
one of his motorcycle trips,

came through here, stayed
at the hotel in nevada,

and he heard the tale, and he
based his book "desperation"

on the chainman mine cave-in.

No way. Yep.

As we now push on
towards the mine,

billy uses the full-spectrum
camera with uv lights,

while I begin using
the infrared binoculars.

Billy: Right now, I've got
the full-spectrum camera

with the uv lights, and
they're very, very bright.

It's just sh**ting
the entire mountainside,

and so we'll review
this a little later to

see if we catch any type
of strange anomalies or figures

or anything like that walk
out in front of the camera

while we're stopped here
with the train.

after I said "you can

As aaron says, "we've
come back to take you,"

this spirit repeats him
and says, "come back."

the rattlesnakes have just come
out for their evening feeding.

Zak: Somebody in that building?

Okay, so right now we're on
the other side of the train.

Yeah, we're gonna walk up
into pitch black right here.

I don't even know
where we're gonna go,

but mark, with the lantern,

is going to lead us
to lane city proper,

where the actual ruins
of the buildings are.

We are getting ready to enter
into a real ghost town,

and we just disembarked
from a real ghost train.

We're following the man
with the lantern.

He's just leading us off
into the desert.

Oh, wow, look at that.

What do you think this brick
building was used for?

Mark: That's a good question.

I don't think it was a house,

because bricks would
been expensive,

so I would guess it's a
commercial structure

of some sort. Billy? Jay?

Aaron? Yeah.

You want to go in? Yeah.

One other thing, too. You're
also in rattlesnake country,

and the rattlesnakes
have just come out

for their evening feeding.

That's a good point.
I'm gonna stay here.

Yeah. So if you hear
the rattle, stop.

With that said, I feel like it's
best for billy to make his way

through the brush to investigate
this small building.

but we can't make out

When you asked how many

I thought I heard "seven"
as the reply.
So did I!

I also thought I

We'll, like, investigate
these remote locations,

and it's like, our uber
is a steam engine train.

Mark: [ laughs ]

That was the first laugh
I got out of him today.

As we depart and head back
to the railway depot

to continue our investigation
at that location...

I can't help but
just soak up this moment,

being on this old
steam engine train

out in old nevada mining
country with my friends,

investigating for ghosts while
the full moon rises above us

and illuminates
the train tracks.

I saw something with
my own eyes, a glowing anomaly,

and as I asked this anomaly,
spirit, or whatever it was

to appear, it did
just that, on cue.

and then there was, like, a
texture of something there.

It was the weirdest thing.

light anomaly

from aaron's legs,

making his experience
more compelling.

And then, something just went
into my hand.

Like, it's just weird.

something right here.

Zak: However, we start to debunk
most of these sounds.

This is the ghost train
we were just on.

They put the ghost train
back in the engine shop.

As you can see, it's still hot.

Wow, look at this, aaron.

You gotta look at this.

Okay, we just heard what sounded
like some growls or something,

and using the thermal
imaging camera,

we were able to hone in on
exactly what that breathing is,

and it's actually some kind of
exhaust valve for the steam.

Yep, right there.

And you can hear
it making that noise,

and you can see the
hot water dumping out.

So that is debunked.

railway yard.

So I decided to aim
a thermal imaging camera

towards the
east ely railway yard,

and this is where
some fatal accidents occurred,

including george havoline,

who was crushed
underneath an ore car,

and also the other gentleman

that mark, the president
of the depot here, told us.

A guy was basically cut in half
when two cars came together.

While we haven't experienced
much activity yet

here at the depot,
that's all about to change

for aaron and billy
in the rip building.

It is very coincidental
that the device falls over

or gets knocked over backwards

right after I ask
the spirit to do that,

especially when it's been
sitting on this chair

for a while.

our thermal camera covering
the secured railway yard

captures an unexplained figure

that appears to come out
from this train car

and then appears to disappear
into thin air.

This figure does appear
to generate heat,

which could mean it is a person

and it could very well be,
but we had that area

where a man was crushed to death
on the tracks secure,

and there should have been
no one trespassing over there,

so we will leave this thermal
evidence inconclusive.
