04x03 - Mrs. Parette's Necklace / Orbie and the Pumpkin Seed / Bryn's New Bracelet

it had been a

search-and-find kind of day

katie discovered that even if you put

two socks into the washing machine

sometimes only one comes out

orbee was surprised to find that if

crayons roll across the floor

it's really hard to find them all again

and they both learned that

if you want to know where your favorite

book is you need to put it away

in the right place next time

in the backyard on this sunny day mrs

perette mom dad katie and orbee

were all sitting sipping lemonade

dad's special lemonade with oranges in

it

katie and orbee were telling mrs peret

about how they spent the day hunting for

things and

mrs correct looked a little sad

orbee tooted that it was all right

they'd found everything again but mrs

perez said

it wasn't about that mum

asked what it was and mrs perette looked

at the ground it made her

very sad to talk about it

[Music]

katie slipped out of her chair and

hugged mrs perette

she never liked to see anyone feel sad

mrs perez explained that she had lost

something she had been given a long long

time ago

a beautiful gold colored necklace

katie was very impressed she told katie

that while it wasn't worth a lot of

money

to her it was very valuable

katie didn't exactly understand and

neither did orbee but

mom seemed to know what she meant

as they were all preparing to leave

katie told mrs perez she was confused

about

what was more valuable than money and

mrs peret leaned over to explain

she told katie that when she was 21 she

was given the necklace because it

belonged to her great-great-grandmother

orbee thought that was a lot of greats

and

mrs perette said yes it was

and now it was her turn to pass the

necklace onto her granddaughter

mrs perez stood up very proudly and told

katie that

her granddaughter was going to turn 21

in two weeks and she was heart sick at

not having the heirloom to pass on to

her

[Music]

katie didn't know that necklaces were

called heirlooms

mrs peretz said that an heirloom was

something special

that was passed down through the family

it was a gift from someone

who was alive a long time ago

mom asked what happened to it and mrs

peret just shrugged her shoulders and

shook her head she had been wearing it

and perhaps

it wasn't done up properly but whatever

it had slipped off and she'd never seen

it since

that made everybody sad

dad asked when it happened mrs perez

said

it was about a week ago well dad jumped

right out of his chair and told mr peret

that he had a really good feeling about

finding it

[Music]

then he made a very serious face and

added that he also had

two of the best hunters on the street

mrs barrett told him she had looked

everywhere yes dad agreed that probably

she had

but there was nothing like another set

of eyes to help find things

and he happened to have three pairs that

were happy to help

i think mrs peret thought it was kind of

hopeless but

you know how silly dad can be and

finally he did get her to agree that

a little hunt through things couldn't

hurt

mrs peret headed home to get ready for

them and when they rang the doorbell

she opened the door to see three

characters

one tall too short each holding great

big magnifying glasses up to their eyes

mrs spirit laughed

and invited them all in in a moment they

were

on the job orbee crawled all the way

around the couch and found nothing

katie looked under all the chairs and

there was nothing there either

dad shook out all the coats in the hall

closet and found nothing

katie crawled along the kitchen floor

and orbee looked

everywhere he could think of in the

bathroom

dad took the vacuum bag outside and cut

it open

he looked through all the dust in there

but there was no necklace

katie wanted to find it so badly

she hated to see mrs perette just

sitting and looking at her

granddaughter's picture

all sad she had a really strong feeling

that it was in the living room so she

sat on the floor and looked at

everything in the room

orbee asked what katie was doing katie

looked at him she said she was trying

to think like a necklace

at that moment an idea came to her and

she leapt

up and pulled the pillows off the couch

orbee was a little worried that mrs

parrett wouldn't want her living

room messed up however katie was looking

so disappointed at not finding it there

he didn't say anything he just

stared at the couch orbee could tell she

was

thinking like a necklace again and

didn't say anything

suddenly she leapt under the couch and

stuck her hand down the little crack

where the back meets the front

she dragged her hand along finding two

coins and the candy

and then she felt something different

orbee could tell

something was up because her eyes popped

open

she slowly and carefully pulled on the

object and as it came into view

she squealed with the light orbee tooted

for everyone to come running

there in katie's hand was a

beautiful gold-colored necklace

well mrs perette cried but they were

happy tears

dad shook all his partner's hands and

then they tied it up a bit

mrs perette hugged katie and told her

that she appreciated her finding it so

much

she hugged dad and orbee2 telling them

she so appreciated them taking the time

to hunt

well katie thought all this was

wonderful

and that night she asked mom if one day

she would get something

as an heirloom mom explained that they

didn't have anything quite as old as mrs

peret's necklace

but she did have a ring that had

belonged to her great-grandmother

mom pulled it out of the jewelry box and

katie put it on her finger

she loved the idea that her finger was

in the same

place her great-great-grandmothers had

been

kitty asked if it would be hers when she

was 21 and mom smiled

it's already waiting for you

you might have something special in your

house that belonged to a member of your

family who lived a long time ago

and if you don't then maybe you'll want

to choose something as an heirloom so

that

your child's child's child's charge are

well

well you know what i mean they will have

something

to remember you by because believe me

you are really worth remembering

did you know

did you know that a pen pal

is a friend you write letters to you can

tell

them all about yourself and draw

pictures and write stories for each

other

a pen pal can be a friend who is far

away

or a special friend who's always nearby

[Music]

it had been a breezy kind of day

katie discovered that it takes a lot of

raking to make a pile of leaves

or be found out that it was a busy time

for squirrels

who were racing around collecting nuts

and they both learned that if you cover

yourself up with leaves

you can really surprise them when you

jump

up after dinner they decided that the

time was right for a game of hide and

seek

katie sat on the steps with her eyes

covered and started counting

or be shot off hunting everywhere for a

terrific place to hide

he crouched down as small as he could

behind a little bush

katie called to orbee that she spotted

him when she saw a little pink glow

behind the small bush

they both raced for the step orbee ran

fast but katie ran faster and beat him

this time orbee was hit and katie hid

katie told orbee he would take

12 years to find her because she had

such a good place

they both giggled she told him

he'd better hunt fast because they only

had a few minutes before bed and raced

off well orbee did his best hunting

he looked in the sandbox under the steps

behind the tree

what he did find was very surprising it

was at the back of the garden

where tall plants grew something orange

peeked out from behind the plants orbee

was really curious about it

but just then he heard a giggle and

turned and ran toward it

he hunted for katie but there was still

no sign of her

and he'd quite forgotten about this

strange orange thing in the backyard

when mom called he asked for two more

minutes to

find katie and to tell you the truth i

think he'd still be looking now except

that all of a sudden a big achoo came

out of the pile of leaves

it was followed by a giggle and he

shouted

katie jumped up looking like a a leaf

monster

and they both raced for the back step

they got there at the same time

orbee just had to tell his best friend

that she really was the best hider

in the world as he was going back in he

glanced back

and saw the last glimmer of sunset

shining on the orange thing

in the garden it wasn't until all the

lights were off and katie was sound

asleep that orbee

started to think about what that orange

thing in the garden could actually be

and i should tell you right here as the

moon shone in through the window

orbee was beginning to think it was

something a little scary

he slipped out of the closet and tiptoed

over to the window

slowly he rose up and two orbee eyes

peeked out over the backyard at the very

moment he looked

the moon moved out from behind a cloud

and made the garden

sparkle with a strange orange light

orbee gasped and slid out of sight

pressed against the wall of kitty's

bedroom orbee tried hard to think of

what to do to save his family

this was something spooky maybe

even a monster orbee quickly zipped

downstairs and made sure dad had locked

all the doors

he had but as orbee was tiptoeing up the

stairs

he began to think how big the monster

was

if its head was that size

he sat down on the stairs and thought if

the monster was very big

a little luck wouldn't help much

orbee came up with what he thought was

an excellent idea

he would put a whole bunch of things

against the door and make it too hard

for the

orange-headed people-eating monster to

come in

and within seconds a stack of furniture

and pots and pans and books and

all kinds of things were against the

back door

[Music]

as he tiptoed up the stairs again orbeez

stopped midstep

what if the monster decided to come

in the front door well instantly

orbee piled all kinds of things against

the front door

that should keep a monster out and then

with a yawn

orbee went up the stairs soon he was

comfy in his closet again and feeling

safe and warm and

he drifted into a deep deep sleep

the next morning everybody but orbee was

awake and slowly they stumbled down to

the kitchen

mom who was in a sleepy haze didn't

notice too much until she went to sit in

the chair and the chair was gone

when dad went to the bookshelf he

couldn't help but notice that

all of the books were gone when katie

came down

she looked at the big pile of stuff that

was up against the door

and asked why it was there well the

whole family minus orbee

tried to figure out what in fact had

happened and it wasn't until

they noticed that orbee was the only

person not there that they realized it

must have something to do with him

katie raced up and asked orbee to hurry

down and see what had happened

orbee was sure it was something awful

and he was also sure

that it was the monster that had done it

when he walked into the kitchen to see

three people wondering what was up

he was so glad to tell them about the

monster he explained everything

and dad smiled he told orbee there was

no monster at all

orbee stood on one of the kitchen chairs

and peeked out

that was when he knew dad was absolutely

wrong

orbee wasn't sure but he thought the

monster was

actually growing right out of the ground

he pointed to it katie shrieked with joy

mom and dad left they didn't laugh at

orbee but they laughed at the situation

still in pajamas the whole family held

hands together

and went out to see what orbeez monster

really was

orbee was very frightened so dad picked

him up

katie was tugging everybody because she

was so excited

at the back of the garden glowing

orangely in the bright october sun

was a huge pumpkin

well i don't have to tell you how

relieved orbee was

and impressed he couldn't believe that

the biggest pumpkin

maybe in the whole world was growing

from the tiny seed that he himself

had planted last year he turned to his

family and started to giggle and

then the giggles turned to chuckles and

chuckles to laughter and

the whole family was laughing with orbee

when he realized how silly he'd been

to this very day it's still one of his

most

favorite stories to tell and i hope it

will be

one of your favorites too i know

that orbee would just love that

he really would

did you know did you know did you know

did you know there are lots of different

shoes that you can wear

you can wear running shoes outside to

play

nifty black shoes with metal taps to go

tap dancing

and soft little slippers for taking

ballet lessons

but i don't think it's a good idea to

wear your tap dancing shoes to ballet

class they're awfully noisy

[Music]

it had been a day of puddles and rain

and katie found out that if you open the

front door

and take a deep breath even the air has

water in it

or be discovered that a whole lot of

worms like to come out and dance in the

rain

and they both learned that after it

rains

the grass in the garden turns greener

and greener

it had rained all day and katie and

orbee had already

puddle jumped carried a whole bunch of

worms back to the garden

made a river where the water raced for

the drain

they had soup for lunch and played with

colored dough

and by this time it was starting to feel

a lot like

playing outside in the sun

[Music]

as they looked out the window katie's

side it didn't look like there was much

hope for the rest of the day

and she turned away from the window

trying to decide what to do next

orbee noticed something in the sky

at first it was just a tiny sliver

between the clouds

and then it began to broaden ever so

slowly

orbee tooted a toot of joy because the

clouds were separating

and letting the good old sun come

through

[Music]

in a flash katie and orbee with tuggy on

mom to get ready

it was soon going to be sunny enough to

go to the park

[Music]

it wasn't more than 15 minutes before

mom was sitting on the wet bench

protected by her raincoat and katie and

orbee were climbing and swinging and

turning on all of the

dripping playground equipment

katie and orbee were spinning on the

swings and giggling as they went around

when a familiar voice called to them

from the path

it was bryn and phoebe they had their

coats and puddle boots on and were

hurrying to the park to play

brynn kept floating around in orbee's

eyes when his swing finally stopped

he was he was really dizzy

they decided to play a game of follow

the leader brynn was the first leader

and she

led them all through the playground

except through the wet sand

and each one of them had to slide down

the fireman's pole like brim

orbee helped phoebe and as benry stuffed

graffiti orbee reached down and he

noticed

a beautiful new bracelet on bryn's wrist

[Applause]

when they took a rest before the next

leader's turn orbee asked if he could

see a broom bracelet

brynn didn't like it much but she showed

it to him

orbee thought it was absolutely the very

best bracelet he had ever seen

on the front of it there was a snake

climbing up something and when orbee

asked if he could try it

bryn said that she wasn't allowed to

take it off

well to tell you the truth orbee was a

bit annoyed with bryn for not

sharing even for a moment as the others

played follow the leader behind katie

orbee went and sat on the bench with mom

he told mom about bryn's new bracelet

and that he didn't think it was very

nice of her to not even let him try it

on just once

and mom wondered why brynn wouldn't give

over your turn

but orbee didn't really know the answer

or we just sat there on the bench beside

mom

soon katie led them all over to mom

because she happened to know that

in one of mom's pockets there were some

really good

eggless cookies just waiting to be eaten

as mom gave out the cookies bryn stopped

and asked if they were made with eggs

inside

katie's mom assured her that they

weren't

she knew that bryn was coming with them

and made them special with her and mind

with that mom asked brynn if she could

see her new bracelet

again brynn didn't really feel like

showing her bracelet but

she did when mom saw it

she thought brynn was terribly clever to

wear a bracelet like that

and told orbee that she knew exactly why

orbee couldn't try it on

orbee turned to her and felt a little

sheepish as he looked at brynn

what was the good reason he burpled mom

explained that bryn's bracelet was on

her wrist to keep her safe

if by any chance brynn ate eggs and they

made her so sick that she couldn't even

talk

then the bracelet did the talking for

her

orbee looked at the bracelet again it

looked really cool with snakes and all

that

he couldn't see any talking buttons or

anything

and mom laughed and told him she meant

that seeing the bracelet on brynn

would tell people that didn't know her

that she was allergic to eggs

orbee was still confused how did it do

that

mom turned bryn's bracelet over on the

inside there were some words

the word said egg allergies

roby rubbed his pink head that was a

very important bracelet for brent to

have

[Music]

and even though orbee wanted one he knew

that he didn't have any allergies

then orbee had another thought

how would anybody in the whole world

know to look in the back of the bracelet

mom pointed to the snake and the sword

she told

orbee that it was a symbol of medicine

and if a bracelet has that symbol on it

that means the bracelet is doing a job

the job is protecting the person

wearing the bracelet it's called a

medical alert bracelet

brynn looked at orbee and told him she

didn't even want to wear the bracelet

because

it told everybody that something was

wrong with her but her mom said it might

save her life and

she just had to

[Music]

orbee touched bryn's arm and told her

that he thought that

the bracelet was telling everybody

something was right with brynn

[Music]

bren didn't know what he meant he told

her if it's keeping you safe so that you

can be our friend

forever and ever then it's doing

something right

orbee gave her a great big hug so did

katie because being brynn's friend

forever

meant a whole lot to both of them brian

looked at her shiny bracelet and smiled

he'd been so busy not wanting to wear it

and now she realized that

it was telling everybody a good thing

not a bad thing

she felt so much happier and with that

she swung around and told phoebe

it was her turn to be leader and all

four friends went off like a snake

through the whole playground

and from that day on whenever katie and

orbee saw someone with

a medical alert bracelet it made them

very happy

because they knew that person was

keeping themselves safe too and if you

need to wear a medical alert bracelet or

know someone else who does

i want you to know that you are making

me

happy at this very moment
