04x01 - The New Bike / Sorry / Orbie and the Tooth Fairy

it had been a pretty lazy morning

katie discovered that an earthworm takes

a very long time to cross the garden

orbee learned that for a butterfly to

explore one of his pink spots

he had to sit very still indeed

and they both found out that sitting in

the sun made you snoozy

then the car horn honked his dad drove

up the driveway

katie and orbee both left to their feet

they ran over to the car

dad opened the trunk with a flourish of

his hands and

a ta-da so loud it brought

mom out of the house

dad took something out of the trunk and

swirled around to face them all

he was holding up a brand new pink

bicycle and it was a real bicycle

a two-wheeler not a tricycle

dad told katie that she was growing so

fast

that he knew she needed a new bike

orbee still fit his bike he didn't need

a new one yet

or be tilted that he loved his old bike

katie raced over and hugged dad because

she loved her new bicycle she was very

excited because it was a bicycle just

like the ones

that they seen the other kids riding in

the park

it had a bell streamers and a light it

was

amazing katie couldn't wait to try

mom said all they had to do now was

learn how to ride

it katie told her mom she knew how to

ride a bike

or be burbled he did too dad pointed out

that they could ride a tricycle

but this only had two wheels that

explained that

two wheels made the whole process of

riding a bike different

katie and orbee wondered how they both

were very anxious to find out right away

they wanted to get started on a bike

ride so mom slipped into the house and

returned with katie's helmet

[Music]

dad asked katie to climb up on the seat

but the bike needed her to hold it up if

she put her feet on the pedal

it wanted to tip over katie felt a bit

nervous

and orbee got down on his hands and

knees to see if he could find out what

was wrong with it

dad smiled at katie and told her there

was nothing wrong with it

the new bike needed katie to balance it

that assured her that she just had to

get the hang of it

when no cars were coming down the street

dad helped katie get settled

and balanced on the seat he held the

bike

while katie put her feet on the pedal

as she pedaled he ran alongside of her

holding the bike up

at first it seemed simple but after a

few tries

dab let go for a minute katie tried to

keep going but she wasn't too sure how

to balance

her bike bumped into a stone and with

that the front wheel

turned and off she fell dad actually

caught her on the way down but the fall

scared kitty she wasn't so sure that she

liked her new bike anymore

when they got back to mom and orbee

mom touched dad's arm and dad nodded

he told katie that he and mom had

thought it might be tricky to get the

hang of the new bike right away

so they had bought some training wheels

more wheels was all that katie could

think

after dad attached them katie tried the

bike again

[Music]

it was still tricky and wobbly but when

it started to lean over

the wheels kept her up katie loved her

new bike again

this was perfect

in about four minutes the whole family

helmets and all

was at the park ready to go for a bike

ride

they were just about to start when two

older children went by on their bikes

katie noticed that they didn't have

training wheels

[Music]

and then some other children pedaled by

without training wheels

and kitty began to feel really silly

having them on it was at that moment

that tom wrote up to them on his bike

and he told katie and orbee that

this was the best biking day ever

and orbee tooted that he agreed but

katie

looked at the ground tom noticed her new

bike

and left off his he got down and

examined katie's bike

he loved the color and the light

the bell the streamer didn't even notice

the training wheel

he told katie that she was pretty cool

to have such a mean machine

mom and dad giggled katie look down at

the training wheels

tom looked at her and what he asked

katie told him that she wasn't good

enough at riding to go without a

training wheel

and that made her feel silly well tom

was astonished

and he looked katie right in the eyes he

told katie that

training wheels are only to begin with

as a group of kids rode by he told her

that they

all had them at one time too but after a

few days when she could balance the bike

off those wheels would come katie looked

at dad who nodded

tom was right then tom raised his hand

high on the air and he told her there

was only one way to get them off quickly

katie wondered what that was practice he

smiled

then he bent over and asked her to

follow a professional

a game of follow the leader would help

and soon

she'd be asking dad to raise them and

then to take them right off

well i don't have to tell you that katie

giggled with excitement as tom got on

his bike again

he told katie and orbee that they were

going to go on a wild

lose those training wheels tour of the

park mom and dad left

and with a shriek and a holler and a

burble that sounded all the way down the

path

they were off they did turns and went up

little hills and

down little hills they whooped and

hollered all the way back to mom and dad

katie and orbee were laughing at tom who

was always so silly

[Music]

katie didn't even realize that she was

already better on her new bike than when

she started

i should tell you that katie practiced

every day

and not long after that her training

wheels did come off

orbee who was always faster now had to

work hard to keep up with her

that day kitty learned a very important

thing

she learned that even though some days

you can't do things exactly the way you

want to

if you keep working at it soon enough

you will

and i know that if you work hard at

tricky things

soon you'll be good at them

too

computers can help us to do all kinds of

things

writing letters grown-up work stuff

and they can even store all of mom's

recipes

just remember not to get cookie dough on

the keyboard

it had been a slow day

orbee discovered that if you roll out

all the wool and mom's knitting ball

it goes a long way and takes a long time

to roll up again

katie learned that when you drop your

beads on the floor picking them up can

be a slow job

and they both found out that if you want

to make a necklace that reaches down to

your belly button

you need a lot of time

the family was at the cottage mom was

digging in the garden and

katie and orbee went out to see if they

could dig the biggest hole in the world

mom giggled and explained that perhaps

the garden wasn't the best place for

that

and with that he pulled out a tall

flower

orbee gasped and asked why mum was

pulling the flower out

mom crinkled up her nose and told orbee

that in fact

this flower was a weed mom told him that

she didn't want weeds growing in the

garden because they k*lled the flowers

that were much prettier

katy noticed a butterfly and decided to

follow it

but orbee kept looking at the weed lying

on the ground and

asked mom if he could help well mom was

delighted

and right away showed orbee a patch of

weeds that were growing

quite happily in the middle of the

garden they had a yellow flower

mum taught orbee how to tiptoe among the

flowers

and crouch in the middle of the garden

without hurting any of the other plants

she also told him to pull out the roots

and gave him a little shovel

to dig with orbee loved weed pulling and

set right to work

soon he called mom over to have a look

at his weeding and mum was very

impressed

[Music]

orbee said he wanted to do some more

showed him another place to work in this

time

orbee knew how to tiptoe into the garden

and not step on any of the other little

plants

he set to work

by now the sun was getting hot and mum

decided to go for a quick cool swim

she asked orbee if he wanted to go but

orbeez said he'd rather pull weeds

mom showed him a few more places to find

weeds

and then pulled off her big sun hat and

headed for the dock

orbee looked at the garden there were a

whole lot of weeds he could pull

with a honk and a spin he sat right to

work

dad and katie were floating on rubber

rabbs

mom slipped into the water and quietly

swam over to them

mom shot out of the water and pushed

down on dad's raft

flipping him over dad yelled as he

splashed into the water

and then he swam underwater to mum and

grabbed her feet and flipped her

over and she shrieked as she fell

backwards

into the water katie giggled and mom

laughed

meanwhile orbee was having a wonderful

time he pulled one weed after another

it felt excellent to be such a good help

to mom

and soon he was finished pulling all the

weeds that mum had shown him

and he looked around for more mom was

going to be

very surprised looking at the yellow

weeds

orbee noticed some further into the

garden that looked almost the same

he thought mom would probably want them

pulled too there were a lot of them so

he yanked and dug

and pulled until every single one was

gone

then in the far corner of the garden

orbee found another bunch that was pink

and maybe a bit bigger but were surely

the same thing

on the dock mom dried herself off with a

towel

as soon as she put the towel down

dad picked her up and threw her in the

water again

and katie laughed as soon as she knew

mom was fine

mom got out of the lake while dad and

katie dried themselves off

dad and katie sat on the lawn chairs and

stretched out

mom quietly filled one of katie's

buckets with water from the lake and

tiptoed up the dock

[Music]

then mum lifted the bucket up

and threw it as she did she saw what

orbee had done

was just a quick peek out of the corner

of her eye

but there was no missing it

as the water sprayed through the air mom

let out a gas

and ran for the garden dad let out a

yelp when the water splashed across his

tummy and then he saw

the garden too

katie didn't know what was wrong but she

could see that there were a whole lot

less flowers in the garden

than had been there before

orbeez stood with pride in front of his

wonderful weeding job

but he could tell by the three faces in

front of him that

something was wrong very wrong

mom just whispered oh

orbee and dad couldn't even speak

katie just stared at the pile of flowers

mom pointed out that orbee had pulled

out more than weeds from the garden

he had pulled out her flowers too orbee

was shocked he looked and it did look

different

the garden was not as colorful as before

dad put his arm around mum and reminded

mom that orbee was

only trying to help mom smiled weakly

and

and seemed to sniff back a tear orbee

turned to the weed pile and pulled out a

flower

he dug a little hole and planted it

again

and then he burbled softly that he was

really sorry

he hugged mom and mum smiled she knew he

hadn't done it on purpose but

it was still hard for her to see her

garden like this

immediately everybody set to work to

make it right

katie and orbee dug holes while they had

replanted the flower that looked strong

enough

and and mom watered them then mom asked

orbee to get a vase

she cut off the flowers that wouldn't

grow again or orbee

looked at them he was sad

mom told him that when there's nothing

to be done about a problem

it's important to do what you can and

then let the

sad feeling go away that's night at the

dinner table

they had the biggest bouquet of flowers

on the table that anyone had ever seen

and just to bring orbeez smile back mom

made a

funny face with some edible flowers

orbee couldn't help but smile when he

looked at that

silly flower face and do you know

that if you do something wrong

you must do all you can to make it right

again

and then it's really important to let

the sadness go

everybody likes it best when you're

happy

i know i do

did you know screen doors and windows

help keep bugs out of your house

they're made of lots of tiny threads

all woven together so tight that even

the tedious bug can't get through

but they only work when you keep them

closed

it had been a great day for visiting

orbee discovered his new friend michael

knew how to roll a ping-pong ball

all the way down the banister katie

learned that michael was very good at

puzzle racing

and they both discovered that sometimes

it's really fun to play with a friend

who's

a bit older than you

michael was already six and a half years

old

when he invited them over to play they

were very happy

michael made them each a peanut butter

sandwich for lunch

and poured them a glass of milk all by

himself

of course his mom was there to make sure

he managed

katie couldn't wait to grow up and be as

old as michael

orbee was sure that he could feel

himself growing

at that very moment katie whispered to

him that it took a little longer than

that

it was when orbee was standing on one

hand kicking his feet that

katie noticed something about michael

when he opened his mouth and laughed

katie noticed that there was a hole in

his mouth

a hole where a tooth should be

katie asked michael what had happened

michael shot his tongue

right up into the hole to show that it

was really gone

[Music]

michael told her that his tooth had

become loose and wiggly and he wiggled

it out

in his spaghetti

orbeez but katie gave orbee a look and

said

maybe it wasn't funny michael continued

his mom told him that it was a very

exciting day it was the day of the tooth

fairy

katie and orbee looked at each other the

tooth fairy

had never heard of her michael explained

that he had to hide his tooth

underneath his pillow then the tooth

fairy would take it

and replace it with two quarters

michael held his hands up to the sky and

jumped it was so much fun

michael couldn't wait to lose another

tooth

katie was quiet for a moment and then

she asked if michael wasn't

a bit nervous about losing all his teeth

what would he chew with

michael looked at katie and orbee he

told the two friends that all kitty's

teeth were going to fall out too

and katie grabbed her mouth to hold him

in and michael

he laughed out loud

but he told her that it was okay it was

supposed to happen

and when you get to be six and seven

your baby teeth will fall right out

and your big teeth will grow right in

orbee was so glad that kitty didn't have

to worry that he snorkeled him

the other cartwheel katie giggle

at suppertime they asked mom and dad

about the tooth fairy

katie was a bit afraid of the tooth

fairy coming into her bedroom

dad told katie that tooth fairy was as

tiny

as a butterfly and she wouldn't even

wake katie up

all she would do is leave a little

present

and take the tooth away

[Music]

katie decided that something that tiny

in her bedroom at night

wouldn't be scary dad told her that it

would be a very special night

because on that night she'd know she

really and truly was growing up

clapped her hand she couldn't wait for

the tooth fairy

orbee was quiet when he got up from the

table and walked over to dad's chair

he asked if dad knew anything about

little aliens

dad looked at orbee and he tickled his

chin

we'll have to wait and see he said after

supper orbee thought about the tooth

fairy

a lot and finally he asked dad to

write a note for him dad was glad to do

it and orbee handed him

the pad and pencil he asked dad to tell

the tooth fairy

that he didn't have any teeth to lose

and if she wanted to trade anything else

well we would

really like her to come and visit

dad finished up the note and gave it to

orbeez

when orbee went to bed he placed the

note right under him on the floor

[Music]

the next morning orbee was up with the

sun

he looked down at his note and for a

moment he thought the fairy had not

answered

then he looked more carefully in the

corner

there was some tiny writing

orbee couldn't help he tooted

and katie set up in bed he asked her to

come with him to find out

what the fairy had said

[Music]

mom and dad were still asleep but orbee

snorkeled very gently and soon dad

opened an eye and saw them

the minute dad's eye was open orbee told

him about the note

dad sat up in bed and read it because it

was in

teeny tiny writing dad borrowed mom's

reading glasses

and looked a little silly as he read

katie and orbee could barely believe

their ear

it said dear orbee i don't write notes

very often because i'm so busy

collecting teeth

but when i saw your note i thought i'd

better answer you back

there aren't a lot of little pink aliens

on earth you know

orbeez sure did know that she said

i usually only collect teeth but you

have something very special that i would

like to collect

too i would love it if you would draw me

a big dot the same color as your spots

every time katie loses a tooth see

i'm very tiny and i will use the dots to

decorate my house

don't make them too big sleep tight

yours truly

the tooth fairy nobody spoke for a

minute

and then orbee bugled his excitement

mama who was snoozing a bit

shot right up out of bed

then she burst out laughing

katie and orbee danced around the room

then orbee asked if katie could feel

anything loose and wiggly in her mouth

katie checked and told him she couldn't

they'd have to wait until she was a

little older

they both cheered and jumped up and down

it was a long time before katie finally

did have a loose tooth fall out but when

it did the tooth fairy came

and collected one tooth and one polka

dot

and left katie and orbee two quarters

each

and i know that when you're old enough

and your tooth gets wiggly

the tooth fairy will visit you too and

on that very day

you'll know you're growing up for sure
