02x07 - The Umbrella / The Great Idea / Everybody Counts

[Music]

it had been a fun morning

or be discovered that when you step on

dough it squishes between your toes

katie learned that if you stick your

finger through the hole in a donut

you have a very tasty ring and they both

learned that if you're careful

you can build a little house with cars

[Music]

at noon the doorbell rang it was a man

with a long thin package

and it was for katie and orbee

well they hurried to open it

and soon discovered that it was an

enormous

umbrella it had spaceships and dinosaurs

on it

the card said that it was some great

uncle david

it made him think of katie and orbee so

he bought it

they loved it and each took a turn at

popping it

open and shut

after lunch katie orby and mum decided

to go to the park

it was a warm day just the right kind

for playing outside

katie asked if they could bring the

umbrella and that was okay with mum so

off they went mom katie orbee and the

great big umbrella

at the park they wanted to swing with

the new umbrella but mom said that

swinging was swinging

and the umbrella was for something else

katie handed it to mom and race for the

swings

[Music]

they were tummy swinging today dangling

upside

down they waved at mom who was spreading

her blanket out

under a tree

mom way back

tummy swinging felt like flying and

katie said that there were little birds

playing in the park

in their pretend world they soared up

over the treetops

and got tangled in a cloud

[Music]

katie thought they might have to stay

there forever

but orbee had another idea not me he

tooted

i'm jungle orbee running through the

jungle to catch my elephant

he got off the swing off he raced at top

speed

katie stopped her swing and chased orbee

as he ran in and out of the playhouse

wait for me jungle orbee i can help and

she did help

she used a pretend bag of peanuts to get

the runaway elephant to stop

katie patted the elephant and jungle

orbee climbed up for a ride

mom looked up from her book she saw

orbee elephant riding

and smiled katie announced that she was

a princess

and that she had to save a magical

toothless dragon

katie ran to the slide i'll help you

honked orbee

and he waved to katie as he slid down he

raced up the steps of the playhouse he

dived into the big orange tube

and popped out the bottom on his tummy

then he did a little orbee dance at the

bottom

reading her book mom was in an imaginary

world too

but i have to tell you that the splatter

in her book wasn't imaginary at all

it was a big real raindrop mom looked up

and was surprised to see

big dark clouds katie orbee

time to go home she called or be leapt

into the sandbox beside katie

she was swimming out to the toothless

dragon

they didn't hear mum or notice any

raindrops at all until

one landed right on orbeez head what was

that orbeez

rain cried katie real reign

they both looked at each other and

together they honked and said

the umbrella they raced over to mom

picked up her blanket katie and orbee

grabbed the umbrella

they popped it open it was huge

it was big enough for two dinosaurs and

spaceships decorated it

katie and orbee stood under their

umbrella dry as anything

and grinned at each other

[Music]

hurry up said mom who is getting wetter

and wetter

katie invited mom onto the umbrella but

mom said she was too tall

mom didn't mind a few drops but she did

want to get home

now i think you already know that katie

and orbee thought the umbrella was great

fun

they walked arm and arm under it and

giggled and laughed

when mom asked them to hurry orbee

started to hurry faster than katie did

and she got left behind in a ring drop

splat rain fell right on her head

great kitty cold she hurried up to take

her turn holding the umbrella

then orbee saw some kids run through the

park and he slowed down

katie walked the umbrella right away

from him

raindrops pinged on orbeez head he

honked and ran back under the umbrella

it was raining a little harder and a

breeze sprang up

the umbrella bobbed in the wind it

tossed around

and the warm summer rain fell all over

katie and harvey

they giggled and bumped along until they

managed to get their steps together

mom put her book under her arm and held

the blanket up over her head

keep moving she called to them the

breeze got

a little more determined and huffed and

puffed at the umbrella

soon katie and orbee were being pulled

along

the umbrella thought it was a kite whoa

katie cried as she and orbee ran zigzag

to hold on to it

and that's when it happened

a big gust of rainy wind whooshed by

katie and orbee

and blew the beautiful umbrella inside

out

mom katie and orbee all squealed and

surprised

and raced up onto the porch then

boom thunder and the rain

team down

[Music]

orbee was sad because he thought the

umbrella was broken

katie thought it looked funny and

laughed

mom said we just made it and she shook

out her blanket

then she turned to the umbrella and

pulled the sides down

it popped back into place orbee honked

and jumped up and down

and katie laughed just then the phone

rang

katie answered it was great uncle david

calling to find out if they had received

the present

they thanked him and told him how much

fun they'd had

[Music]

while it rained katie and orbee drew

pictures of the trip home from the park

with the big umbrella

and mom mailed them to uncle david and

you know

i think that was a lovely thing to do

when someone does

a special thing for you it's always nice

to do

something special for them

[Music]

did you know you can tell which animals

have been in your backyard

by the tracks or footprints they leave

behind

you might see cat or dog tracks

[Music]

rabbit or raccoon tracks

wouldn't it be surprising to find

apatosaurus tracks

[Music]

[Music]

it had been a busy morning

katie discovered that birds like to sing

when the sun comes up

orbee found out that the sky lights up

very slowly

and they both learned that almost no one

walks along the sidewalk

in the early morning

katie and orbee had been awake for a

long time and they were getting tired of

waiting for mom and dad

so far they were sound asleep they were

sound asleep because it was very early

in the morning

way too early for a family to be up

suddenly katie had a great idea she

and orbee would make breakfast

they raced out of the kitchen

katie squealed with the light orbee was

about to toot but katie shushed him

they had to be very quiet

she told orbee they couldn't use the

stove

or a sharp knife or be burbled his

agreement

they would have to be safe

katie opened the cupboards looking for

things they could make

orbee thought of pancakes and he pulled

out the maple syrup

pancakes did sound good but katie

remembered

that dad used the frying pan to make

them

next katie took an egg out from the

fridge

eggs were a delicious idea orbee pointed

out that eggs weren't

that delicious cold and slimy katie

agreed

katie thought for a moment so did orbee

then katie smacked the table with her

hand

toast was all she said orbee grinned and

then gave her a quizzical look

were they allowed to use the toaster he

wondered

a frown crossed katie's face because of

course they weren't

but then she smiled again she leaned

over to orbee

they would call it cold toast and put

all kinds of yummy things on it dad

would love it

orbee would be in charge of the cold

toast

katie would make coffee they couldn't

use the coffee pot because

it was dangerous but katie could mix it

in hot water so she took dad's mug

and scooped in some coffee

[Music]

she poured hot water into it and it did

look good

a little black maybe but good

mom liked milk and hers so katie poured

a lot in

and then two big spoons full of sugar

there wasn't much room left for the

coffee but katie put some

in with a little tiny bit of hot water

then came mom's breakfast or be thought

of cereal

cereal was a great idea katie clapped

her hands

that was the most perfect thing

she took a big bowl from the cupboard

she took out some cereal boxes too

when katie looked into the box of mom's

favorite cereal

there were only four little pieces left

orbee stopped putting peanut butter on

the bread

he had another idea he told katie that

they could use the last of mom's cereal

and then add the ones that they liked

best mom would get a mixture of really

yummy things katie sat right to work

filling the bowl

orbee by this time was looking at dan's

cold toast and decided that it looked

plain and ordinary like a sandwich

he decided he would top the peanut

butter off with green

relish that way it would look better

katy poured milk into the bowl and then

she pulled out the trays

she set everything on the trays

finally the delicious breakfast was

ready

[Music]

katie and orbee tiptoed up the

katie carried mom's tray and she noticed

that the cereal bits were all

fat and soggy mom would love it anyway

katie knew

orbee looked at dad's tray some of the

juice from the relish was trickling

across the plate

dad would love his anyway for sure

when they got to the door mom and dad

was still sound asleep

katie wanted to wake them up but orbee

burbled

that he should leave it outside the

bedroom door

when they opened it there would be the

surprise

katie thought orbee was a genius they

put the trays on the hall carpet

but he giggled all the way down the

stairs and went into the living room to

wait

it was still very early mom and dad kept

sleeping

and it wasn't too long before katie and

orbee were asleep too

[Music]

there was only one person at their house

that wasn't

well all right not exactly a person a

chance

patted down the hall and as you can

imagine

was very surprised to find such a

delicious breakfast sitting on the hall

carpet she just naturally thought it was

for her

nobody else had on the ground

she looked around to see if there could

be a mistake

but no one was in sight it was

definitely for her she decided

and sniffed in the milky aroma she

drank up every bit of the milk in the

cereal bowl

she even ate some of the cereal

she didn't like dad's coffee at all

but she drank a bit of moms

then she tried dad's sandwich not the

relish part

but the peanut butter part

she took a big bite and chewed and

chewed and chewed the peanut butter got

stuck to the roof of her mouth

she shook her head and almost fell

she knocked over mom's coffee

it made a loud clunk then it spilled

into the cereal wall

the noise woke mom and dad up when they

opened up their door they found chance

still wrestling with the peanut butter

i have to tell you that peanut butter

was not made for cats

[Music]

mom and dad saw the breakfast they

realized that katie and orbee had gone

to a lot of trouble to surprise them

the breakfast had been ruined by chance

but mom and dad felt

so special because katie and orbee had

done something

really nice for them when they found

katie and orbee sleeping

they had a great idea too they cooked up

made to order pancakes and set the table

with balloons just for fun

i have to tell you that the two friends

were very

surprised they were sorry mom and dad

had missed the breakfast but

they were glad that chance left it and

you know

if you can think of something nice to do

for somebody else

you should do it everybody even moms and

dads

like to feel special sometimes

[Music]

did you know pasta comes in many

shapes and sizes this fettuccine

linguine rigatoni and rotini

as well as macaroni spaghetti and

facility

you can even eat letters bows shells

stars and even wagon wheels

it had been a costume finding day

katie learned that a big floppy hat was

fun until you bumped into something

orbee found out that a little bit of

makeup can change your whole face

and they both discovered that half the

fun of putting on a play

was finding the costumes

[Music]

yi ping kira brin phoebe and arthur were

all over at katie's house to put on a

play

katie and aubry were busy making sure

they had the right costumes for the

characters

brynn made up the story kira added to it

katie made up the name for it which was

the happy dragon

orbee made up the tickets and phoebe and

arthur put some chairs in the living

room for the parents

yi ping went home to get the dragon's

head everybody was busy

and very excited mom said she'd cater

which meant provide the food and she

made dragon cupcakes

all the friends helped decorate them

while orbee was in the washroom wiping

the icing off the end of his nose

the rest of the friends decided for the

last time who would be who in the play

arthur would be the funny king kira

would be the cat

brynn would be the queen phoebe would be

the lady in waiting

ye ping would be the wizard katie would

be the knight

and orbee would be the dragon

when obi was finished he came back into

the kitchen to discover that he was the

dragon

well he danced a very dragon like dance

and growled a very dragon like growl

and all the friends clapped orbee would

be the perfect dragon

mom suggested that they have a rehearsal

which meant

they practice the play to see what

everybody does and when they come on

stage

this was an excellent idea the seven

friends raced upstairs and put on their

costumes

the crown didn't fit arthur's head so

mum had to make it a bit bigger

bryn kept tripping over her skirt so mom

pinned it up

and keira wanted to have a cat face so

mom painted her up with face paints

orbee looked great in his dragon costume

they rehearsed their play and everybody

did their parts beautifully

but orbee found out that his part was

sort of

small

the whole play was about making the

dragon happy and all orbee had to do was

walk across the stage

as if he was sad then at the very end he

had to

do the happy dragon dance the dragon

didn't talk so orbee had nothing to say

orpi watched his friends working on

their parts he really wanted to be the

king

the king had lots to say orbee thought

maybe the wizard could make the dragon

talk

but that would ruin the story after a

while orbee took off the dragon head and

he lay it on the floor

he went out the back door and sat under

a tree

maybe being in the play wasn't all that

much fun

he really wanted to have a honking and

tooting part where mom and dad could see

how good he was at remembering what to

say

barbie was disappointed

inside the friends decided they would

try to make a curtain with an old ripped

sheet

mom said they could take it out in the

backyard and paint it because she

couldn't use it anymore

well the six friends charged out the

back door carrying the sheets and paints

and brushes and water

they called orbee to come and help them

and orbee did come over

he was about to choose the red pink

brush when arthur talked about

how he was going to use a big deep voice

to be the king

katie told him she was going to look big

and strong because all nights were

orbee felt a little sad that his part

wasn't very big

he told them that he'd be right back but

actually he went up to his room and shut

the closet door

now there were so many people that

nobody really thought about orbee not

being there for the painting

and when mum gave them all a snack she

didn't notice that orbee was missing

when dad came home the friends told him

that there was going to be a wonderful

play

and dad was delighted he asked where

orbee was

and that's when everybody realized that

orbee hadn't been with them for a little

while

mom remembered seeing him go upstairs

they found orbee looking at a book they

told him that it was time to get ready

for the play

orbee looked at katie and burbled that

he didn't want to be in the play six

hearts fell to the floor they had worked

all day on the play and now he didn't

want to do it

katie told orbee that he had to do it

because they needed a dragon

or he pointed out that it was just a

tiny little part of the story it wasn't

important

katie turned to her friends he didn't

know what to say

dad came up to see how things were going

he was surprised to hear that orbee

wanted to drop

out of the play dad told orbee that the

thing about a play is that everybody

counts

it's a team orbee told dad he wanted to

be

king why couldn't there be two kings

dad asked orbee to tell him the story of

the play

at the end dad told orbee he was wrong

about his part

without him there was no story or play

at all

his part was very important

then dad picked up the dragon head he

told orbee that it was his job to be the

very best dragon

even though he had no lines to speak he

could be funny and interesting when he

walked

when he sat suddenly orbee understood

what dad meant

he took the dragon's head from him and

turned to his friends

i didn't understand he tooted but now i

do

[Music]

he put the head on and did a very funny

walk

that made everybody laugh

and that night when all the parents were

there the friends put on their play

i have to tell you that each and every

one of them did a wonderful job

orbee made sure he was a dragon with

personality

and everybody loved it at the end when

it was orbee's turn to take a bow

all the parents cheered orbee had made

his part

so much fun

[Music]

from that day on orbee never worried

about the part he had

he worked hard at making whatever it was

come to life

and be wonderful he realized that he was

only as important

as he made himself and do you know the

same thing goes for you don't waste your

time wondering if what you're doing is

important

think about how well you're going to do

it and do it the best way you can

because i happen to know that you

are already very important
