Hey 7 little

monsters 7 little

monsters 7 little

monsters

Stop. StopStop

Please.

Five. We're trying to make music. I'm

making music. Yes, Five, but

we have to listen to each other. How can

we listen to each other with all that

music playing?No, Two. We

need to listen to the music so we can

keep time with each other. I know what

time it is. I don't need to

tell time. My face could stop a clock.

No, no, noI'm not talking about time on

a clock. I'm talking about keeping time

with the music, you know, like rhythm.

Like this.

now, count and clap with me.

Let's just play the music,

OK?Again.

Why do I have to play this silly thing?

It's called a glockenspiel, Four. I

don't care what it's called. I don't want

to play it. We need you to play it, Four.

I can't play the music of my soul on

this stinky little thing.

Gee whiz, Four. We're a

band. We all have to do our

part. We need you to play the

glockenhooey thing.

Stop!

Do not harm that instrument. Treat it

as you would a small child or a

treasured piece of cheese. As

the greatest conductor in the world, I am

going to turn this mockery of

music into a great

orchestra. Well, someone else can

play the Glockenstink. Only the

greatest of musicians can be trusted to

play the Glockenspiel.

Really?All of the greatest musicians

played the glockenspiel. Who?

People so great that they remained hidden

from the public for fear of others

becoming jealous of their talents. Hmm

Wow, four. I'll trade you my

drum for your glocken whatever.

No, I'll play the glocken who?

It's called a glockenspiel, and

no one plays it but me. Good man.

Practice makes perfect. Now, everybody,

places! Places! India.

The mall. The beach. Silence!

I do not want you to name places. I want

you to take your places. To play. Now!

Sorry.

Hey, you guys. Somebody's moving in

next door.

I wonder who they are. I wonder what they

smell like. They do not know how

lucky they are to be living next door

to the maestro. Ah, who

cares?It's probably nobody

interesting.

Yes, Five, I'm sure they have food over

there. The real question is, will they be

nearly as beautiful as me?

I hope they don't dance with

monkeys. Me?

I couldn't think of anything.

Someone's coming. I'm

going out to the backyard to practice

now, Mom.

Quiet 5. Not 5.

Sure. It's not me. Five is in the

way.

Do you think she swore?I

don't know. What if she did? It's a free

country. We could peek through our own

fence if we want to. It's not right to

peek. It is too. Is not.

Well, if it's not all right to peek. Why

were you peeking?Well, if it's all

right to peek, why are you whispering?I

am not whispering. You are, too. I am not

whispering.

Five.

Do you think she heard us?I

don't think so. Oh, it's just some little

girl. I'm going home.

What's that noise?It sounds like a

kangaroo. Oh, no. I'm

afraid of kangaroos. You've

never even seen a kangaroo. Oh,

yeah?Well, what you call that

remarkable. She must have springs for

legs.

Hey, look what she's got. I've only

seen one of those in the circus. See

what?I can't see. Come on, let me

see

a trampoline.

Uh oh, I'm stuck. Shh! She'll

hear us.

Where did she go?Looking for me?

Hi, I'm Mary. What's happening?

Hi, I'm one. We live next

door. And I'm the oldest. Only by a

few seconds. But what a difference a few

seconds can make. Those are

cool wings, One. Can you fly?

Show off. Gee, One, if I

had wings, I wouldn't need this

trampoline. They're so groovy.

HuhThey are?Oh, yeah,

they are. Groovy.

Hey, that's a really cool nose you got

there. Me?Of course

you. What's your name?Oh, uh,

I'm Two. Well, Two. Will you lend me that

out-of-sight nose of yours for a second?

Out

of sight.

You're almost as graceful as I am, Mary.

By the way, you can call me

Six. Cool, too, too, Six.

Isn't it, though?I have them in all

sorts of colors, including

yellow.

Oh, silly me.

Hi there, Mary. I'm Seven.

Can I try your trampoline?Sure,

Seven. That'd be gravy.

I mean groovy.

Far out, Seven. That was the coolest head

trick I think I've ever seen. Thanks.

Hey. You there. What's your

story?You with that out-of-sight hat.

Oh, um, I'm four, and

this is my twin brother, Five. Me five!

Me five! Me five!

I guessed you're five, huh

You can make all kinds of noises, can't

you, Five?

So, you know, four is like my

favorite number. Really?

Well, um, Mary is like my favorite

name. Since when?

Mary, I am the Maestro.

But you may, if you wish, call me

three.

Maestro? Are you guys all in a band?

You might call it a band today. By

tomorrow, they will be a world-class

symphony. But

please, excuse us. We must get back to

practicing. Ohh I don't play an

instrument or anything, but maybe I could

come over and listen sometime?Sure.

Anytime. That could be a movie.

Out of sight. And you guys are welcome to

come over anytime, too. Too

Ready, Seven?Fire away!

One, two!

Three,

four!

Five, six!

And...

So long, Seven! Out of

sight! Move it!

Breakfast we should be having now, my

boobalinks. The porridge is making with

the hotness.

Food.

And four is where being? He wasn't

upstairs. Or in the bathroom. He went

out early, I think.

HmmVery strange.

And what is with all the yellow being?

Isn't it groovy?

Groovy?Groovy. Mary says it

all the time. And who is this Mary person?

She just moved in next door. And she

thinks yellow is cool.

Rehearse. Follow me, fellow music lovers.

I was thinking I had a big bunch of

bananas, but where have they been?

Uh, Four, can I ask you something?

Sure, Mary. Why do you have bananas on

your head?Well, since you like yellow

so much, and I like yellow so much,

but I don't own much yellow. Hey,

he's far out. Yeah. Yellow is yesterday,

Four. Blue's where it's at today. If you

like yellow, though, that's cool. If

this tree wasn't in the way, I could do

my really big flips.

Yeah! Cool.

Catch this groovy move, Four.

That's the grooviest.

Everyone, concentrate! Today,

we will conquer this piece of music.

We will be triumphant.

Uh-ha! Hey, where is two?Yeah! Where

is two?That's weird. This is

unacceptable! Everyone must be at

rehearsal. Huh

Maestro, I will go and fine

tell. I thank you for if

only the others were so dedicated. Go

then and good luck in your search.

The rest of you, a little practice is

in order. Now instruments ready.

I want to be moved, people. I

want the music to swell around me like a

great. Ocean.

Oh, hi, Four. Want to join our picnic?

Oh, picnic?Far out. I'll go get some

more sauerkraut. What

are you doing here?I'm about to have a

picnic with my best friend.

Your best friend?She's my best

friend. I don't think so. She

likes my nose. She likes

my nose. OK, two,

but are you going to wear that outfit for

the picnic?Why?What's wrong with it?

It's yellow. Mary loves yellow. Oh, OK.

Got it. Fine. Really. Only

Only what?Mary told me that

blue was her favorite color for today.

But you can stay in yellow. You look good

in yellow. Do you think I should

go home and change? If you want,

we'll still be here. Thanks, Four.

Hey, what are brothers for?

Where's Two?Oh, he had to

go home to. Put sunblock on his nose.

It's very sensitive, you know

Keep together. Keep together.

Do you think we should wait for two?

Hi, Mary. Having a picnic?Hi,

one. Do you like pickles?I love

Pickles. Out of sight. I better

go get more pickles then.

Speaking of out of sight, aren't you

supposed to be rehearsing?I could say the

same to you. Anyway, I thought I'd come

over and play with my best friend, Mary.

She's not your best friend. She's my

best friend. Spare me. Who would have

you for a best friend when she could have

me?Someone named Mary.

Really?Well, Mary likes my wings. Do

you have wings?I don't need

wings. I am.

OK, Mom. Yeah, I'll tell her.

What was that all about?Oh, I was just

telling Mom that I'd tell you that she

wants you home. Didn't you hear her?

Hear what?Mom wasn't calling.

When was the last time you cleaned your

ears?I just cleaned them last

night. I can hear just fine.

And Mom was not calling for me.

OK, fine. You're the oldest. You know

best. I guess you

can afford to be wrong. Have Mom all mad

at you. It's your

funeral. Tell

Mary I'll be right back. Hope so.

Mom sounded kind of annoyed.

One. Give me more

clarinet.

Uh, good instincts, 5, bringing

down the cymbals. It is very

postmodern.

Five. What are you doing here?Hey,

five. You're going to have a picnic with

us too?

Stay cool. I'll be right back with some

more lemonade.

Five. You want Mary to like you, don't

you?Uh huhUh huhUh huh

Well, Mary was just saying that she loves

pickled beets. No.

Yeah, she'd probably be your best friend

if you went and got her some. And I think

that Mom has one jar left hidden

in the cellar.

This is too easy.

Now just say bagpipes and clarinet at

this point. I want to hear a duet that

will bring tears to my eyes. Oh, a

bagpipes solo. Bold improvisation,

six.

Now, everyone, all

together.

Marvelous! This is what I was

looking for. Beautiful!

Now, careful. Watch the tempo.

There we go, five. Now

we can-- four.

Where's five?Oh, he had to

have his tongue waxed. It is Friday, you

knowAnd where is one?Oh,

she had to fly. The party can begin.

I have arrived. Me

too. Oh, cool. I'm

glad you're here. You know, you can't

have a groovy picnic without a lot of

friends. Guess we're going to need more

food. Be right back.

What a beautiful picnic. That Mary has

such great taste, just like moi.

Yeah, and I'm starving.

Six, seven. You know what Mary was

just saying? We're going to need more food?

No, before you got here. She was saying

she really wished she had some flowers

for the table. For Mary, I'll

go pick some from Mom's garden.

That's a good idea, Seven. But I happen

to know that Mary's favorite flowers are

those red ones with the purple stems that

grow in the park. All the way over

in the park? You're right. I'll go get the

flowers. After all, Mary is my

best friend. Hey, wait.

She's my best friend, and I'm going to

get the flowers. Hold it, you

tooth. You've got it all wrong.

Mary is my best friend, and I'm sure

she wants me to get the flowers.

Wait, waitThere's no need to

argue. Why don't you both

go to the park?

You have made your maestro

so proud.

This is perfection.

This is wondrous.

This is... This is...

This is an outrage!

My ears are perfectly clean.

Five. Have you been rooting around in the

root cellar?

Yeah. Who told you to get pickled

beets?Four. Four told

me my ears were clogged. Four told

us to go get flowers for Mary.

But there weren't any red ones with

purple stems. There were white ones with

green stems. All the blue I could find

was this plastic hat. That's a bucket,

too. Ohh It was Four's

idea to wear something blue. Four!

Come on, you guys. Follow me.

I wonder how the two of us are going to

eat all this food.

I don't think that's going to be too much

of a problem. Three's Four. We're

on to your little game. Hi, One.

How are your ears? They're just fine. Like

they were before you sent me away.

Yeah, your flowers, Four.

You just wanted to get rid of us.

Me too.

There's no need for that, Five. What is

the meaning of this? You all abandoned

your instruments, your rehearsal, and for

what?To bother my best friend,

Mary. Your best friend. She's my best

friend. In your dreams, one. Mary is my

best friend. I am the maestro and

Mary is my best friend. Oh yeah?

She said four was her favorite number. So

Mary thinks my head is out of

sight. Well, my nose is

groovier than your head. Ow.

Nobody would want to be friends with an

eye poker out. All right, all

rightWhy don't we just ask Mary who her

best friend is?Where is she?She is

gone. Can you blame her?Look at

how we were acting. Oh, no. Now she won't

be my friend. She probably

hates us.

No, she probably hates me

most of all.

I don't hate any of you. She's up there.

Oh, Mary. Hate is the

most. Uncool, most ungroovy

thing to do. I... I'm

sorry, Mary. I guess I just

wanted you to like me best. We all got a

little jealous of each other.

I'm sorry. Yeah, I kind

of lost my head. I think you're

all groovy, and I want all of you to

be my friends. You mean we could all

be your best friend?Why not?

Mary, we would all like you to join

our... band. That would be

so far out. But... I

don't play an instrument, Maestro.

I've got an idea.

That's it! Places, everyone?

Africa. My backyard! Ohh Thank you,

Mary. Now, everybody on three.

One, two, three!
