bring some masks with him to the studio

to show us how to make masks of our own

I have a problem oh dear what's the

matter i left my bike at the park all

day and I forgot to lock it up and when

I went back to get it it was gone it

feels so awful that someone stole my

bike i loved my bike oh my it does feel

terrible when something is stolen from

you stealing is a very bad thing to do

no matter what the reason but it gets

worse Ruby my mom says it's my fault

that my bike got stolen and I forgot to

lock it up so I have to earn half of the

money for a new bike and my mom will pay

the other half making that much money is

a big job for a little girl why don't we

come up with a plan to help you out

things and when we find something really

really interesting and fun we like to

share it with you today's subject is the

African culture and I think you'll find

it fascinating billy Ruby take it away

did you know that Africa is a continent

made up of lots of countries and lots of

different ethnic groups each with their

own distinct and very rich cultures live

there we can only show you just a few

examples of those cultures today this is

Kente Qu i love the bright colors this

wooden doll is called an aquaba try and

say it with me okay aquaba good aquava

dolls always have long necks and a round

head some Ashanti women who are hoping

for a beautiful baby tuck them in their

waistband like a good luck charm now

this cloth is called mud cloth because

the patterns are painted on it by

artists using very special mud mud that

has been placed in a clay pot and

covered with water and left for a whole

year wow i'd get impatient waiting for a

whole year if I felt like painting they

have other mud that's ready to go Billy

oh we'll be seeing some more interesting

things from Africa a little later in the

show but for now it's back to the studio

are you from i'm from Africa the name of

my country is Nigeria are there many

different ways of life in Africa there

are many countries in Africa there are

many languages in Africa people things

are different can you tell us a little

bit about your outfit oh my outfit is

just a regular shirt people wear it's

called Dansiki actually this is worn as

a vest and there's another big robe that

you wear over it so how did you get

interested in making masks children in

Africa make their own masks like you go

out for Halloween to buy your Halloween

costume we actually make our own masks

awesome so can you teach us how to make

a mask sure to make a mask a simple mask

we take a sheet of paper fold it in half

this way and just do this and you do

that to it you take a scissors and cut

through can you see this do something

like this to it this is actually a mouth

and then we'll do something like

this see that and then to make the eye

we fold this part we go like this like

that you can make any design eye you

want to make

you see that mhm then I turn it over

go like this right and then I go like

this if I want it depends on how you

feel when you're making the mask you

know and we have a mask oh cool we can

make a horn by doing something like this
