BRYCE: Nearly one year ago,

this team embarked on the
investigation of a lifetime

in the wilderness of Oregon,

where we found some truly
remarkable evidence...

from sound recordings...

Hear that?

Oh, my God.

That's infrasound.

That means there could really be

a Bigfoot on this recording.

...to eyeshine that was nearly 8
feet off the ground...

...to a thermal image

that we believe could
only be one thing...

BRYCE: This is incredible.

This definitely could be

what we were looking for...
Bigfoot.

We came so close that we had
to continue our investigation,

and now our algorithm
has pointed us to a spot

in southeastern Kentucky,

where Bigfoot sightings in this
treacherous landscape

number in the hundreds
and have spiked in recent years.

It's here we are gonna find

the world's
most elusive creature.

We are right in the heart
of coal country.

Look at that.

Straight-up ghost town.

At one point,
southeastern Kentucky

was the leading coal provider
for the entire nation,

but once the coal-mining
industry left,

so did the people.

You can see the evidence

of nature reclaiming
this entire territory.

MIREYA: It's really wild when
you think about the fact

that large mammal population
in this area

was pretty much driven
to extinction,

because of all the mining
and logging.

And now nature is thriving.

Animals are thriving.

Animals are coming out in places

that you wouldn't
see them before.

And they're coming out
in much bigger numbers.

And if all the animals
are gonna do that,

sure enough, we're gonna see
Bigfoot do the same thing.

NARRATOR: The team's advanced
data algorithm has analyzed

decades' worth
of Bigfoot sightings

and has revealed
a 75,000-acre swath of forest,

where at this time of year,

the mathematical odds for
a Bigfoot encounter are greatest

and they have
the highest probability

of finally making contact.

the Appalachian Mountains,

which is just ridge
after ridge after ridge,

and it provides
such a strategic advantage

for a creature like Bigfoot

that wants to just avoid
human contact.

will often have stopovers

in the exact same place
year after year.

These places are often chosen

because they're safe spaces
on a long journey.

And that could explain why

there's such a high
concentration of sightings

at this particular location
at this particular time.

BRYCE: All the evidence suggests

that there's an undiscovered
Bigfoot migration happening here

and that this location could be
a stopover on their journey.

That information is gonna be
pivotal in finding Bigfoot

once and for all.

And according to all the data,

we only have 17 days before
Bigfoot changes locations again.

So we have to work fast.

We're almost there.

of their target zone.

There's so many good places
to hide if you're a Bigfoot.

NARRATOR: This time,

the entire 75,000 acres
of their search area

has been scanned and mapped,

revealing details
the human eye could never see,

including game trails or paths
that are created

from large animals frequently
moving through the area.

So let me just switch filters
here for a second.

This is gonna give you
an opportunity

to see some
of these game trails,

which you can actually see.

They all really lead
into these hollows.

RONNY: They do.

Known locally as hollers,

these small canyons and valleys

were created over the course
of thousands of years

by water running off ridge tops.

These formations are teeming

with both lush vegetation
and wildlife.

MIREYA: When you're searching
for an animal that is elusive,

one of the biggest indications
as to whether or not

you're in a good habitat
is to look for any sign of life.

These game trails
are an amazing opportunity

to actually follow possible prey
for the animal

that we're looking for.

And all of these hollows
offer all of that.

And we're talking about
in the hundreds here.

It's almost like there's all of
these pockets of micro habitats,

all of which could be
really good areas

to potentially hide in.

This could take a year
to cover all these hollows.

BRYCE: Well, we don't have
a year. We have about 17 days.

One thing I want
to point out, though,

is right here, Pine Mountain.

- Yeah.
- That's a fault line.

RUSSELL:
So it's actually limestone

that's been pushed up.

The opportunity for caves and
openings in that surface area

is gonna be amazing.

Pine Mountain is roughly


The local experts here say

there could be hundreds
of undiscovered,

unexplored caves
along that ridge.

And close is the Mammoth Caves,

the world's largest cave system.

If Pine Mountain and Mammoth
Caves are comparable,

we could have hundreds of miles

of underground passageways
to explore.

What I'm gonna do is start here,

head up these ridgelines
right here.

And start working my way across.

BRYCE:
Look, we know so many theories

call these Bigfoots
ridge walkers.

So, I mean, if you're willing
to get up there with them,

then that gives you
all the more better of a shot

to have the same vantage point
as they do.

NARRATOR: It's believed
that Bigfoot travel

along the tops of mountains
to avoid humans,

a behavior that was witnessed
in the Marble Mountain video

the team analyzed last year.

and analyzing evidence.

Now we just have to execute.

I don't see how we could lose.

with our scientific approach,

with our technology.

We know how to work

And I know that we're on

with the jungles around us.

of southeast Kentucky...

...a team of experts
are investigating

a 75,000-acre target zone in
an effort to prove the existence

of the most legendary creature
in the world, Bigfoot.

There's a lot of testimonies,
a lot of stories in this area

that Bigfoot has been
spotted here.

And that's why we're here.

NARRATOR: While the field team
pushes deep into the wilderness,

Bryce is heading into town
to meet with a local resident

who claims to have
captured evidence of Bigfoot

in his own backyard.

You know, in Oregon,
we were completely cut off.

We were focusing
our investigation

in a remote part of the woods.

But there are lots of pockets
of communities

backed up against these hollers.

It's no doubt that they're gonna
have Bigfoot encounters.

I'm on my way to talk to
a preacher named Tracy Turner.

He's an honest
and well-respected

pillar of the community.

He was hearing some crazy sounds
out of his backyard.

He said he's willing to share
that camera footage with me.

I can't wait to hear
what he got.

I'm great, thanks.

I take it these are
the backwoods where you heard

some of those noises?

Back behind the houses is
where I heard the noise.

So how long ago was this?

This was almost exactly
a year ago.

It was around August
of last year.

That is right in our time frame.

I came out here
with a cup of coffee

just to relax in the evening.

And I heard it

and I thought, "What was that?"

So I got my camera out,

and that's when I made the video

hoping that
it would do it again.

And it did.

What made this... this sound
so different?

I don't know. It was something

that brought chills
up on me when I heard it.

So then you actually had
a physical response to this?

That's what scared me.

I never heard
anything like that.

Hmm. Well, can I see the video?

Yeah, yeah, sure.

I've had friends say
it may be a wolf.

It's not a w*r.
It wasn't a howl.

I don't know.
It sounded like a woman

BRYCE: What is absolutely
fascinating...

Unbeknownst to him...

That's not the first report
I've heard of a Bigfoot

sounding something
like a woman screaming.

It was a long sound,
like a banshee,

like it sounded like a woman
giving birth,

like, screaming.

It still brings goose bumps
on me when I think about it.

Yeah. And where did you think
it was coming from?

It sounded more or less
like it was coming

from the top of the ridge here.

So there's... there's definitely
something up there.

Now, you've been in this area
your whole life.

Have you ever heard
of any other people

telling of Bigfoot sightings

or hearing things
or seeing footprints

in and around here?

Oh, yeah.

My neighbor was up hunting
in the wintertime.

He said, "We saw some tracks
up there"

that he said, "We couldn't
stride ourselves.

We had to jump from one track
to the other."

And he said, "I don't know
what could have made

something like that."

And that was right in back
in these woods?

That was in these woods, too.

I mean, these... these are
some pretty dense forest

and that's unpopulated
up through there

for miles and miles.

And it's...
It's the perfect place

for anything to hide

and... and to think
that it may be a Bigfoot

is not that far out. Not for me.

I thought that it was really
encouraging to hear

that other people in this
community have seen trackways.

So that lets me know
we are in the right spot

and especially recording that
this exact time

and this exact place
this time last year.

There's no reason to think that
it couldn't be there right now.

I'd love to check it out

for signs of Bigfoot.

The most difficult part
of the expedition

is actually the very start

because it's sort of
like a cold case at that point.

And so my goal is to find
that first piece of evidence

that gives us an indication
that there's signs of life

in an area.

Shelter, food, water source
in one area,

that, to me,
would be the place to start.

There's a water source here.

Let's just try and find
some high ground up here.

Bigfoot's got to drink.

The team has discovered

a large natural spring,

an ideal location
for wildlife to congregate.

MIREYA: It's amazing because
this area was so populated.

And now you've got something
like this

where I bet the wildlife
is using these roads

and coming down and exploiting
the water sources.

This is fresh.
Look how clear that is.

NARRATOR:
Since the coal industry
began to leave the region,

the animal population
has overwhelmingly returned

to southeast Kentucky.

MIREYA: Animals
that migrate to this area,

they're gonna require all
of the same things

that we require for survival.

And one of the things
that I first look for...

Is there a nearby water source?

That's one of the most important
things that drives animals

into an area,
sort of a congregating spot.

MIREYA: Take a look around
and see if you see

any prints or anything.

See what's coming down here
to drink.

Here's some old coal.

No, I don't really see any here.

Well, actually...

Looks like there's a track here.

You got a track?

Deer. Deer?

That's good.

RONNY: Deer is Bigfoot's
main food source.

This is incredible.

There's water, there's food.
Deer is plentiful.

It's a perfect place
for something like Bigfoot

to k*ll them or hunt them down.

I'm feeling confident
that we're in the right place.

Hey, Mireya, looks like
this goes back some.

MIREYA: It goes back a ways?

Yeah, it looks pretty deep.
I'm gonna take a peek.

Finding a cave or a mine on
the first night would be great.

Last year, we found some great
evidence inside of a mine.

Looks like there's a bunch
of old coal here.

This thing looks deep.

I'm looking for areas

where it's gonna have
the ability to stay stealthy,

stay out of sight of humans,

have all the food
and water it needs.

And this area has so many
of these things

that it's incredible.

It's a perfect place for
something like Bigfoot to hide.

Nice little hiding spot.

Look at this... water, shelter.

And it's got food. Tons.

I think we're in the right area,
but it's starting to collapse.

You can see the bolts
kind of coming down.

There's no way
we're going into this mine.

It looks like it can collapse
at any moment.

But we're gonna stick around
in this area

and maybe we can provoke
something to come out.

Good spot for a couple
of trail cams.

Yeah, absolutely.
We're starting to lose light.

Let's go try and find
where we're gonna set up camp

and then we'll come back
and we'll set trail cameras

all along this. Sounds great.

NARRATOR: In the northwest
corner of the target zone,

Russell is continuing to trek
up and down

the Appalachian ridgelines

in search of Bigfoot
migrating through these hills.

RUSSELL:
These leaves, when they're dry,

it's like highly difficult
to walk through

without making
a tremendous amount of noise.

So I welcome the water
to kind of soften up the leaves.

We can get through it
a little quieter,

but if we get a lot of rain,
it takes away,

you know, any possibility
of finding some good footprints

or any kind of tracks
that we might have been on,

which we're diligently
looking for right now.

Not too much of it.

I'll take a little bit of rain
in small doses.

We come up on this game trail.

If you look, some of this

is your typical deer tracks
coming through,

but there's a couple
of big pattern spots here.

Interestingly enough,
it's part of a jaw bone here

and a skull.

Oh, it looks like a deer.

I think I'll follow
this game trail

out here a little ways
and... see where it takes us.

You know it's well traveled
and the odds of finding

something moving through here
are pretty good.

So see how this tree
has been broken down?

That will tell you that
something has come

through here recently,

because if you look along
the whole base of it,

all the leaves are back up.

So this thing has been actually
thriving and growing upward.

Let's go see what's
up ahead of us.

Smell.

You smell that?

This rain is giving me
a lot of noise,

but that smell, you can't...

That's strong.

One of the things that
I rely on is my sense of smell.

A bear has its own smell,
an elk has its own smell,

but it's said that Bigfoot
smells like dead meat

or something rotting.

Oh, that stinks.

[ Rumble ]

I want to head out
across this way,

because what I'm smelling
is really strong.

That's coming from just
a little bit above us.

RONNY: Nice little flat spot.

Yeah, but this is really rocky,

so I think we should try
to find something

that's a little softer.

I think we definitely
should try to stay close

to that water source.

We could probably hear
something going in it.

NARRATOR: With nightfall
rapidly approaching,

Mireya and Ronny search
for an ideal campsite

near the water source
and abandoned mine shaft.

Because of how expansive
this search is, there is no way

that we could have a base camp
this year like we did last year.

We're gonna have to travel
really light

and move very quick on our feet.

You can definitely see that
there's been animals

coming through here.

There's a lot of tracks here.

You smell it?

I do.

That didn't smell
like that before.

No.

There are a lot of bears.

There's a lot of
black bear activity here,

and while bears were somewhat
of a concern

when we were in Oregon,

the activity level here
is so much higher.

And so that's gonna put us
at a greater risk

of encountering bears

and possibly being attacked
by a bear

while we're out here
in Kentucky.

NARRATOR: There are almost 1,000
black bears in the region

and the majority of them
reside within 75 miles

of the team's target zone.

While black bear attacks
are rare, they do happen.

In fact, just days ago,

a man was wounded by a bear
while camping with his family

just 55 miles
from the team's search area.

So I think that we should
set up our camp here.

We've got some shelter above us.

Yeah. We've got soft, flat land,

which is not easily
accessible here,

got boulders on this side,

a steep hang-off on that.

And it's only gonna get worse
if we go further in.

Are you worried about bears
walking right into our camp?

I don't generally like to camp

right where an animal uses
a sort of a highway...

Yeah... because I don't want

to interrupt its natural flow,

but animals are smart.

They adapt, they'll climb up,
they'll go around.

Oh, I don't know how
I feel about that.

This is as good
as it's gonna get here,

and we're losing light.

I really think we have no choice
but to camp here.

Definitely in the bear
territory, that's for sure.

NARRATOR: As darkness falls,
Ronny and Mireya

set up their camp
on the corridor

that leads to the water source.

RONNY: The first night
of an investigation

is the most important.

We haven't made ourselves
known just yet.

We know that large mammals
are using this game trail

to move back and forth.

So this is the best spot for us
to start the investigation.

I'm all set up.

Yeah, me too.

Let's go get those
trail cams set up.

Let's start down on this side.

Okay. We better move quick.

a series of 12 trail cameras

equally spaced
along the mile-long pathway

that ends at the water source.

Yeah, let's get

Then under full cover
of darkness,

they'll split up
to explore the corridor.

MIREYA: There are a lot
of mixed emotions

on the first night
of an expedition.

There is the excitement
of being out here,

the possibility of discovery,

but also that overhanging fear.

If we're gonna
catch anything, it's now.

Science is about taking risks.

I want to find the evidence
that's needed to get Bigfoot

out of the pages of...
Of myth and lore

and into the science books.

And whether it's something
as small as a hair,

if it's out here,
we're gonna find it.

to talk to witnesses

and talk to experts,
but at the same time,

we're out here
for a reason, right?

incredibly predatory creature,

but there's rattlesnakes,
copperheads.

The higher you go up,
the steeper and steeper it gets.

You can still just barely see
some of the lights

from the houses down there.

This is like
the perfect vantage point

to just watch and observe
from up in these woods.

Tracy heard that strange
howl in his backyard

exactly one year ago,

and our algorithm told us
that Bigfoot should be

migrating through this area
for the next few weeks.

So there's clearly
a pattern here.

And it's very possible
that Bigfoot is here right now.

I'm gonna try and reach out
and communicate

in the hopes
of getting a response back.

once they're left

in over top of it.

Animals are opportunists.

They're gonna see this
as a free shelter.

This is definitely something
worth investigating.

NARRATOR: Last year,
as the team tracked Bigfoot

through Oregon,

they encountered the remains
of an abandoned town...

MIREYA: Children's mattress

...that was stricken
with tragedy.

These are all children.

What the hell happened out here?

A lot of Bigfoot encounters

have occurred in areas

that have seen a large amount
of disturbing energy.

See what all's going on here.

It looks like
it's just been demolished.

Look how nature's just come
right in over top of it.

The bugs are eating me alive.

I would imagine them walking
through these weeds,

where sidewalks
and streets were.

Just to think how this used

to be a productive
coal-mining town

with all the hustle and bustle
and just has that vibe of just

It's sad to see something

that was once prosperous
and strong

being... destroyed

and taken back over by nature.

That smell I was tracking,
it's gone now.

I'm not gonna find anything
in the middle of this.

in the forest again.

...Mireya and Ronny
are preparing

to investigate the trail
that leads to the water source.

[ Whispering ] Okay.

The idea is
to keep a low profile.

We'll just use the IR lights.

We got the walkies,

so if you run into anything,

we can kind of just
keep in contact

between we'll have to try
to keep it to a whisper.

Well, I want to head down
to the water source then.

Starting at their camp,

Ronny and Mireya will separate
and explore the trail

in opposite directions.

Ronny will go toward the
trailhead over half a mile away,

while Mireya will head towards
the water source

at the trail's end.

I spent a lot of time
doing nocturnal searches

for primates in different
jungles around the world

but never in complete darkness
like this.

Using the IR lights,

where the visibility is
so tough to adjust to.

But if there's something
out here,

it's gonna be
at the water source.

Where there's water,
there's life.
