At the start of day seven,

almost a third of the quota
is already filled.

Southern boat Fishin' Frenzy

maintains a narrow lead over Wahoo.

While the three Northern boats
and Doghouse trail behind.

GREG: Let's get this thing untied,
get on here and go fishing.

Fishin' Frenzy's on the top
of the leaderboard.

I couldn't ask for anything more.

Nobody else is fishing yet.

We're going to go out there
and get it started.

The Outer Banks in the winter
is not an easy place to fish.

And we Southern boats
definitely have an advantage

over the Northern boats, especially
when it comes to navigating Oregon Inlet,

one of the most dangerous inlets
on the east coast.

All right, Nick, you ready
to go get 'em? Let's go get 'em.

NICK: Yes, sir, let's get 'em.

Tuna! Woo!

GREG: We've heard reports
that it's going to get windy later,

so we're heading out early
to cross the inlet before it gets rough.

Those Northern boys
haven't learned the ropes yet

and that's quite all right with us.

NICK: Oh, h*-h*-h*.

NICK:
We're gonna get a bite dude.

PAUL: Time to go get some pay dirt.

TYLER: It's day seven.
I've only caught two fish so far.

You know, this is a very short season.

The quota's small and it goes quick.
So we got to capitalize.

We're in a battle here,
and the South's kicking our butt.

So we got to start catching fish
ourselves.

It's blowing too, Paul.

Let's go. It's blowing.

PAUL: It's been windy for a couple days.
You know, the entrance

to this harbor is really, really rough.
So we got to be careful.

TYLER: Even during normal days
when the weather is calm,

the inlet's a challenge.

But during windy days,
the inlet becomes a gauntlet.

First, we gotta navigate the unpredictable
currents beneath the bridge,

then we face the big breaking waves
where the inlet meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Makes it death defying
just to get out in the morning.

PAUL: Wow,
it's all whitewater out there, dude.

Jesus. Look at it all the way
across there.

-TYLER: The whole bar's breaking.
-PAUL: Yep.

TYLER: Oh, my God,
I don't want any part of this.

PAUL: I mean,
it's gonna be nasty.

TYLER:

right into the bridge.

MARCIANO [off screen]: The reality is,
I gotta be payin' attention

when we're going through here.

a little off guard on the bridge, there.

Skimmed down the wall about a foot away.

Marciano almost hit the bridge.

PAUL [off screen]: Oh!

MARCIANO: But you know, that's all.
We're through.

TYLER: Tell you what,

and next time you go through there,

MARCIANO: All right,
we'll see if we could find the pile.

We got some bad weather coming.

Southeast wind, which is
the worst swell we could have

as far as for our inlet.

Supposed to be 35 knots.
We got to get a fish on the deck quick

before the weather sets in and we got to

pucker up and go home.

BRITTON: The weather
is going to impact the inlet

and your primary concern here
is the inlet.

Getting out and coming in.

That's always on your mind.

This certainly isn't the way we wanted
our Outer Banks fishing to go.

The Southern boats are k*lling me

They know these Outer Banks conditions
and when and where to fish.

I want so badly
to turn things around today.

The only thing that's going to fix this
is a fish on the deck.

Make sure there's no traffic around.

That's Reed on the Wahoo,
he's running for a reason, ain't he?

are number one and two in the fleet.

He's trying to get to the bite
before someone else does.

It's been dead quiet over here.

Let's hopefully though
we'll drive over the right patch of fish

soon here and get a fish aboard the boat,

so we can get in this game.

Coming all the way down here
to the Outer Banks,

I had to leave my wife and kids back home.
That's something I've never done before.

But the bottom line is we need money.

This is where the fish are,

this is where we came to get them.

Now we're gonna start producing.

We're marking a bunch of something.

sit back and watch.

We know it's gonna blow 35 to 40 knots.

So we need to catch a fish right now.

GREG: He's right in the squids.

He's got a lot of pull to it.

That's why it's crucial that we catch it.

This might be some of the most
stressful times of my life.

BANKS: This is where all our hair goes.

are heading home.

We're gonna stay out. We need a fish.

Fishing for multiple days at a time

instead of running in,
trying to get across that inlet

is gonna give us a big advantage.

We do this all the time in Gloucester.

But one thing concerns me,
we're not in Gloucester anymore.

We've got to be really careful down here.

We were the only boat
to catch a fish today.

We're one step closer to be

and there's good reason for it.

So I'm a little worried.
But we got to stay out here

All the Southern boats
are sitting at the dock.

But we typically
are known in this boat that goes

when the weather is bad,
we still charge hard.

We have to transit
the most dangerous inlet

every day we go to work.

Lot of nasty weather.
Lot of boats been lost in the inlet.

BANKS: We got a little inside intel.

Might be a few fish northeast of here.

However, the inlet
is fierce to frightening.

Sounds like a couple boats
already made it through

and one of them got his
front window blown out.

Some days we just don't want
to be crossing that inlet of ours.

We know they're out there
and we can't get to 'em.

These Northern boats think
we're exaggerating about how rough

it gets here on the Outer Banks,
they will definitely learn the hard way.

TYLER: Ugh.

We stayed out here all night.

But when it's rough out and it's windy,
it's hard to get the lines out.

PAUL: This is too much.
You got to go in gear!

They're tangling each other.
It's too windy and rough to fish.

A big waste of time.

We're used to bait, chummin',
puttin' lines out on balloons

and drifting. Trolling's different,

'cause you float in the water,

it's a lot harder to
troll in rough weather.

Friggin' lines are getting tangled.

TYLER: Just trying to correct
some things here,

because we're here the long term, now.

So we might as well try
and do the tricks that we know.

gunnin' for us

and there only being
three Northern boats here,

I might have to do whatever I got to do
to catch some fish,

and I might have to be biting my tongue
a little more than I'd like.

MARCIANO: I'm definitely gonna hang out
for a few hours, anyway.

I ain't getting outta here too early.

I wanna at least have a decent shot at it,
feel like I tried.

in spite of the rough conditions,
that we can get our fish today.

If we can pull that rabbit out of our hat,

we'd have a slam-dunk trip
and we'd be on a good start

to be catching up to those Southern guys.
