12x06 - Episode 6

Post by bunniefuu »

Well, I told you I needed a
fiver to sponsor Izzy, so...

You should have sponsored her with
your own money, then. What money?

I've not had a penny
out of you in months.

Right, well, that'll
have to do. There.

Oh, show me up, why don't
you? Just get ready, will you?

Move! All right,
what's up with her?

Don't forget you said
you'd sponsor me.

Can I put you down for ten?

I haven't even got 10p, Preston.

Great encouragement, that is.

Don't you want me to
break the school record?

Morning.

Morning.

Oh! I've got morning breath.

Oh, shut up.

I'm being serious. Well,
bring a toothbrush next time.

Well, then, lend me yours if you
really want to kiss me so bad.

Uh! Yeah, we're
defo not there yet.

Oh! Come here!

KNOCKING

That'll be Kai, can you get it?

All right, all right, cool your
boots. The race hasn't started yet.

What are you doing here?

We said today.

I'll have it later this week.

No. We said today.

I can't get it till payday.

You can threaten
me all you like.

Kids not left for school yet?

No, don't you dare, Vinny.

Imagine, you're sat at home at
night thinking, "Kids are late,

"must have got a detention."

Then it starts getting dark,
they're still not back.

You phone around friends
but... not with any of them.

How long do you think it'll be

before you realise
something's wrong?

Really wrong.

Three, four hours?

Today. No more excuses.

Samia!

Sami! I thought you
said your dad was out.

He usually is, but he
must be working from home.

So what am I supposed to do?

Go out the window! What?

Sami, I can't jump down
there. I'll break me neck.

Well, do something!

Samia, you up yet?

Sorry, Mum. Careful.

Right, so we're saying
a tenner, yeah? Yeah.

Wish me luck, then.

Luck.

Are we jogging then, Coach?
A little warm up, hey?

Be careful on your way
in. Mum, I'm not ten!

Samia, I'm coming in. KNOCKING

Why are you still in bed?

Whoa, whoa, whoa.
What you doing?

Heating the whole of
Greater Manchester?

I don't know what's
going on with you.

Up late on your phone, no doubt.

Yeah, something like
that. Right, come on.

I know it's the end of the term,
but we can't be slacking off now.

I'll sort your
breakfast. Thanks, Dad.

Whose is that? It's Danny's.

I asked him if I could keep
it cos it looks good on me.

I don't think we really need
reminding of him, do we?

He's never far from
my mind, to be honest.

You are worth ten of him.

Lads like that, they'll only ever
drag you down to their level.

He's actually trying to
turn his life around, Dad.

Yeah, his life chaotic,

and you'll keep getting dragged back
to the same old thing. And it's sad,

but it's not your job
to drag him out of it.

You've never given him a chance.

You're trying to see the best
in him, and that's you, Sami.

And it's a great quality.

But you need to open your eyes.

People don't change.

Trouble's going to
follow him round forever.

Do you really want to
be messed up with that?

Wow.

Say what you really think, Mr C.

Take no notice. I'm not.

Mum would be dead
proud of you, you know?

You reckon? She hasn't
seen the garden lately.

Even so, you've done
all this in her memory.

It's like she's still
making a difference.

Still here.

Oh, and by the way, you do
owe me some sponsor money.

What are you talking about?
I organised all this.

Dad, come on. What would
Mum want you to do?

Oh, it's like that, is it?

Go on, dig deep.

What are you like? OK.

He won't listen, he won't
even ride into school with me.

Can't you just talk to him?

I can't make him want
to go live with you.

So what, I'm meant to choose
between me mum and me brother?

Maybe he just needs
a bit of time.

Right, this is a big adjustment,
Dwayne, for everyone.

You mean you don't
want us going either?

What? No, I want
what's best for you.

So you and Mike haven't been
putting stuff inside his head? No.

Making out it's a bad
idea? No, we've not.

Someone has to be. Dwayne,
maybe he's just not ready.

Right, now, can you get to
where you need to be, please?

PANTING

What was that?

3.23.

Wait, what? It was like
seven minutes yesterday.

Forgot to start the
watch, sorry. Oh!

Right, you're fired. What?

New coach, please.

Babe, you're too
high-maintenance for anyone else,

standing there styling your hair
for an hour before we go on a run.

How you feel about yourself on
the outside affects what happens

on the inside.

Did you actually listen
in sports psychology?

Was your mum all right?

She was biting my head
off, so, yeah, normal.

She seemed a bit quiet.

Well, if you mean - has she got
a problem with you? No chance.

She loves you.

She never exchanged outfit
ideas with Samia, so...

Yeah, I know, we've bonded.

It's just... I thought
something was off, that's all.

Well, if it is, she
hasn't told me. BELL RINGS

Anyways, don't worry
about it, forget it.

Right, you've got a race to practise
for. Right, yeah, yeah, I know!

Pick up the pace, let's go!

BELL RINGS

Welcome, all. It is Waterloo
Runners, the only day of the term

when we encourage you to
leg it away from school.

And for those of you like me,

for whom a cross-country run
sounds like hell, we have sponsored

trampolining in the gym,
and sponsored lengths

at the local pool.

I am really proud of how
the community has come

together to find sponsors
for today's events.

And the money raised is going to go
towards Chlo's Wishing Foundation,

which provides the little
things for the school that you

think that we need.

So I think that you all deserve
a huge round of applause.

Also, Mr King has made a very
generous - slash - stupid offer.

I think my money's
safe. LAUGHTER

So, Preston Walters -
we all know Preston.

CHEERING

And it seems that Preston has
been getting very close to

breaking the school cross-country
record, which stands at...

18.08.

ALL: Ooh!

18.08. Right, well, if Preston
does break it this afternoon,

Mr King has agreed to
double the sponsor money

from his own pocket.

How much have you
raised, so far, Preston?

Uh, about 200 quid.

Oh, hold on, hold
on, hang on a second.

It was 40 quid when I offered.

Your kind gesture encouraged
people to dig deep, sir.

Right. Right, yeah.

OK, well, I'm not sure which you
want more - the school funds or

if it's to see Mr
King out of pocket.

But I think we can
all agree that we

would love to see Preston break that
record this afternoon, am I right?

CHEERING

Come on, man!

No pressure.

You have to talk to
finance about an advance.

Yeah, I've tried that. That's why
I thought you could have a word,

cos you can get round anyone.

When it comes to
Sheila, my powers fail.

Wendy, please, please.

I wouldn't ask unless
I was desperate.

I could tell you now
what she's going to say.

Can you just try?

Nicky, is there a problem?

Sorry, Wendy. Sorry.

Fine!

Do we need a little chat?

No, I'm OK.

Sorry.

Debs, it's me.

Yes, I know.

I know that. Please! Just...

Please.

Don't hang up!

I need your help.

18.08, that's the record, huh?

Yeah, what about it?

I used to walk the course
faster at my old school.

Well, maybe the course
was easier, I don't know.

Or maybe you're just slower, have you
thought about that? We'll find out.

Yeah, we will find out.

Cos there's going to
be a new record today

and it's going to
be me that sets it.

Good luck! Oh, it's only
a fun race, you doughnut.

Good morning to
you, too, lovely.

Myles, I'll sponsor you.

No, why would you sponsor
him? He's my mate.

What, the kid who made
out I assaulted him?

He listens to me.

Did he put you off staying
with Mum? He did, didn't he?

Don't lie to me. He asked
me what I wanted to do

more than you've ever done.

He's trying to get back
at me by splitting us up.

Can't you see that?
He's looking out for me.

I look out for you, Zayne!

He's only looking out
for himself. He's a liar,

a user and he's not
right in the head.

Says you!

BELL RINGS

Gemma, if your heart rate
was 580, you'd be dead.

LAUGHTER

OK, let's keep
practising in our pairs.

So I've got a load of
cereal bars in my bag.

I need to carb load
before the race.

Uh, should you be doing that?

Well, I saw it in
a training plan.

Yeah. That wasn't the eating
plan that we agreed on,

the one that you promised you
were going to be sticking to.

I need energy for
the race, don't I?

Yeah, firstly it's a
fun run, not a race.

Well, it's a race now, to
beat that idiot Massey.

Yeah, I think you're putting
too much pressure on yourself.

Everyone's expecting me to
take that money off Mr King.

How disappointing is it
going to be if I don't?

Stress is a serious
trigger, you told me that.

I don't care about the run.

I don't want you going
back to your old ways.

Lads.

I know it's race day but you
really should be working now.

98 beats per minute, Sir.

Good.

Stick it on the board.

OK.

Maybe I am stressing.

You're right.

It's only a little jog.

What have I got to worry about?

I'm still not allowed in
there, you know. I know.

You all right? Oh,
I'm just fabulous.

You? Yeah, nonstop
parties since you left.

Mum harassing me, me running around
after Kelly-Jo as well as me own.

Do you know what I'd give to be running
round after our Kelly-Jo at home?

None of this would have happened
if you'd not opened your big gob.

I'm just saying,
it's not been easy.

What do you want?

Oh, if it's money you're after,
you're wasting your time.

I've been paying all your
bills since you left.

Well, that makes a change from me paying
all yours, when your lot moved in!

Debs!

I wouldn't ask.

I never ask, but
I-I'm in a tight spot.

I've got nowt. I've
got less than nowt.

Sub me a couple of grand. A couple
of grand? Are you out of your mind?

Well, look, I'm coming home anyway,
so you don't have to worry about

paying for any of
the bills any more.

I've gone through the proper channels, I've
signed a child protection plan and everything.

You're going to
have to go, Nicky.

They call me unfit.

You want to grab
yourself a mirror, love.

So if you were a 16-year-old
in 1558, you would have already

outlived 21% of those born
in the same year as you,

which is a fun fact.

Unless you're an Elizabethan.

Just carry on reading.

PHONE BUZZES

PHONE BUZZES

I'm just looking to increase my limit.
I know I've missed a couple of payments.

Why don't you just
press that button

and then we can both
get off the call?

Yeah, but I only want to
increase it a little bit.

I'll definitely be able to pay
you back. I've got three jobs.

Do you know what? You're
absolutely useless, you lot.

One button it is
to you, one button.

To me, it's putting
food on the table.

What is the point of a payday
loan if you can't sort it

till after payday?
That's ridiculous.

Do you know what? Do
one, you absolute...

SHE SIGHS

LAUGHTER

Yes, thank you.

I asked for serious questions.

Oi, what's the difference
between a boy and girl, Miss?

Can we stay on topic, please?

What, do you not know, Miss?

I may not be your regular PSHE
teacher, but we are going to

get through today's lesson even
if we miss the sponsored events.

Right, for next lesson, can
we please have some sensible

discussion on what makes
a positive relationship?

Discuss it with your partner
now and I want five ideas

written down before the bell.

So he stayed the night, yeah?
Mm-hm. I'm shocked, man.

I thought you were
a good girl, Sam.

I am a good girl. Right.

And he's not just anyone.

He did this thing, right? Yeah.

Where he, like, pretended to
draw on my back with his finger.

Is this going to
make me gag? Kels!

Urgh. Listen, so I think
he wrote "I love you".

What? Well, you
think he wrote it.

That... That just doesn't count.

Well, does Dean say it to you?

Urgh, if he said
that I'd chin him.

So even after all this time,
he still hasn't said it?

He's quite romantic, actually.

Raise your worksheets
- that means everyone.

Where did you say babies
came from again, Miss?

Romantic?

You coming?

Um.. Yeah, yeah, I'll
catch you up in a bit.

I'll wait outside for you. Cool.

That's the bell, Kelly-Jo.

Yeah. Um...

Miss, how long should
you, like, be with someone

before they say "I love you"?

Not a clue.

Miss, I'm not trying
to wind you up.

It's your chance to be
a proper PSHE teacher.

It's just... if you don't
hear it, does it matter?

Not a clue.

Great! Thanks for
the education, Miss.

Bye, Miss.

Right. Come on, people, I want
your money in the buckets,

money in the buckets, yep, yep.

We've got change
for sweets, yeah?

Well, charity are better
than sweets, innit?

Hey, money in the bucket.
Good kid, good kid.

Miss, do me a favour. Mind that
till Miss Whitwell gets back

cos I've got to get
my costume on, OK?

Thank you!

Here's your money.

SHE SOBS

I can't believe he said that.

I know!

PHONE ALERT

You're going to k*ll yourself
before that run, you know that?

Well, at least I'll be
saving Mr King 200 quid.

18.08? You'll smash it.

And then Kai will be sure to
make sure everyone knows it was

all down to him.

Good luck!

PHONE ALERT

Where's the cash?

Right, well, I haven't
exactly got the cash.

If you've dragged me all
the way here for nothing!

No. I've got
something even better.

How about a dozen
brand-new computers?

Wow! Nicking from
your own school, hey?

You're a class act,
you, aren't you?

Yeah, well, school will be
insured. I don't need computers!

Look, they've got to be worth
ten times what I owe you

and you can have them today.

The whole school's out
on some charity thing,

so there's no-one around.
I can be in and out.

All you've got to do is drive
in here, park up and wait.

Right, come on. Cross-country,
you're in the playground.

Trampolining in the gym.

And if you're doing swimming,
you should be on the bus by now.

So, come on, vamonos!

I got your text.

Dwayne thinks we've
been brainwashing Zane?

I-I don't know.

Maybe someone has
said something?

Slagging off his mum or whatever,
you know what they're like.

Or maybe he's just
happier with us?

Well, yeah, I hope he is, but I
don't want to be the thing that

splits him and his
brother up, Mike.

You're not. It's not like I've
been whispering in his ear

or whatever it is that Dwayne
thinks I've been doing.

But we haven't exactly gone out
of our way to change his mind

either, have we? Cos we know
we need to let them make

their own decision. Yeah.

They'll sort it. Yeah?

Yeah. Right, listen, I've got to
go, cos I'm absolutely slammed.

Right. Take care, all right?

And you can really feel the
excitement building here

on this very important
fundraiser today.

So, could we have all the
runners please make their way

to the start line? Walk
to the start line, please.

Nobody runs till I say it's OK.

Yes, runners! Wait for
this beat to drop, yeah?

Wow, Noel. That's,
um, commitment.

I could hardly
organise a clean sock.

I thought, like, loads of people
were coming in fancy dress?

Um, no!

Where did you get that?

Oh, I can't believe
he fell for it!

LAUGHTER

Oh, you wet wipe, mate!

Loads you said,
mate. Yeah, loads.

Yeah, Preston Walters
in a chicken suit, yeah?

You said everyone was coming
in fancy dress, you did.

Nah, that is priceless.

All right, jukebox,
get back in line.

Let's do a quick warm-up.

OK, you lot. Everyone,
eyes on me. Ton, Ton!

We're going to move
to the right first.

Take four steps to the
right and then stop,

and then go to the left again.

Do me a favour, and just watch this,
will you? I need to nip to the loo.

As long as you're back before
the start, then yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Ten minutes tops, just don't be
taking all them protein ba*ls.

Who's going to steal
at a fundraiser?

You're not even moving! You know
what's going to happen there?

You're going to sprain your
ankle. Is that what you want? No.

OK. You've got this, all right?

You're going to be all right.

Channel Usain Bolt.

Yeah, I know. I'm going to win.

I'll be back in
one sec. Yeah, OK.

Is your boyfriend going to give
you a kiss good luck, or what?

I always knew you
were an idiot, Myles.

Didn't know you were
a h*m* one.

Yeah, well, what can I say?

I'm just a h*m* idiot
that's going to win, that's all.

Good luck.

I actually almost forgot
what you look like.

How could you
forget these brows?

I still don't see
what you see in him.

But it's each to their own.

You know what, I actually said the
exact thing to Samia about you.

She seems to really like you.

Like, really, really like you.

Yeah. But her dad doesn't.

But I'm going to change that.

All I've got to do is prove to
him that I'm not the person that

I used to be.

The streets, Vinny -
that's all behind me.

I saw Vinny this morning
at Preston's house.

What?

With his mum.

She looked really shaken up and
like she didn't want to be seen.

Please, don't tell me that you
think she's been stupid enough to

actually lend something off him?

Oi, that's our Nicky
you're talking about.

But, yeah.

Do you think he'd...?

Well, you seen what
he tried to do to me.

He's not just going
to go for her.

He goes for family,

friends, kids,

anyone that gets in the way.

Have you told Preston?

No, I can't.

I-I can't...

Look, Kai! Look, this isn't
something that you can

keep from him. You've
got to tell him.

Honestly... it'll break him.

He's not as hard as you think.

He's fragile.

So...

..what are we going to do?

Hey, are you not watching
the record-breaker?

Yeah, yeah, I just thought
I'd clean up the meeting room.

No, leave that. You
can do it later.

Don't want you missing my big
speech now, do we? Come on.

Hey, come on!

So you're doing a speech,
then, are you? Yeah.

Yeah, I just want
to represent Chlo.

I don't want the trustees ever
forgetting what it's all about.

That's if I finish
up in time, that is.

So you're not going to be
stuck in here all day, then?

No, no, Rolf will be
knocking about the building.

I'm just locking some
parts off for him.

Make his life easier.

HE HUMS

Hey, I can't wait to see
Lindon King's face when Preston

hits his time, though.

Hey, you all right?

Yeah, yeah.

You sure? Yeah.

I mean, 200 quid? Hey, mind you,

he probably spends that
on a pair of socks.

Rich missus, hasn't he?

I mean, I know they're separated
but I bet there's no mortgage

to pay on that big house of his.

You know what? He'll probably
be retired by the time he's 50,

the jammy sod.

Right, alarm on.

OK, let's go.

Big responsibility,
this, isn't it?

Yeah. Yeah, I'd lose my
job if I screwed this up.

Come on.

Nicky, speech. Let's go.

We are just a few minutes
away from race time.

But while we're waiting, some of
you are probably asking yourselves,

"Why is a history teacher
commentating on a race?"

Well, what you won't know is
that I was a long-standing

referee in the Wigan and
District Football League,

so I know a little bit more
about sport than you might think.

HE CHUCKLES

There was one occasion
where the team turned up...

While we're here, let's give a
big shout out to Noel McManus

and his amazing
fabulous robot costume!

CHEERING

I'm meant to be a mobile DJ!

It's some promo for
the radio thing, innit?

I knew you were a DJ.

Ton.

Well, finally! You just don't want
to get your hands dirty, do you?

I could give you a hand, take
my mind off my... speech.

Hey! Calm down.

What sort of energy ba*ls
are you selling here?

Sorry, sorry.

Kelly-Jo, can you watch my
stall, please? I need the loo.

Haven't you just been? Just...!

Well, here we all are, thank you
to the efforts of Miss Walker

who grew the wishing tree from
a seed of an idea of Mr Charles

into the success that is today.

Woo!

And I think Mr Charles
has a few words to say.

Yeah.

Thank you, Miss Campbell. Um...

Yeah, well, I just wanted to tell
you a little bit about our Chlo.

She believed that a school
should be a community.

And in a community we
should all do our bit.

KEYPAD BEEPING

So let's all remember
why we're here today.

You know, it's not just
about making money,

it's about making
wishes come true.

And none of this would have
been possible without our Chlo.

Thank you, Mr Charles.

OK, you're leaving
the school premises

so I'm expecting
flawless behaviour.

Rule number one - if you can
get in Preston's way, please do.

And rule number two - have
fun and enjoy yourself.

And all that is left to
say is, Preston, I'm going

to sponsor you for
an extra 20 quid now.

Oh, come on!

CHANTING: Preston,
Preston, Preston!

All right, all right, all right.

This kid ain't got a
chance. End of story.

Relax, you've got this.

Your breath feels hot,
what have you been eating?

Cereal bars, like I said.

Yeah, what about after that?

LOUDSPEAKER: The first wave of
runners are about to set off.

If you are part of the second
wave, start warming up now

and be ready to set
off in two minutes.

OK, everybody. Starting
positions, please.

Three, two, one.

KLAXON

DISTANT: Run like the wind!

Second set of runners to
the start line, please.

FOOTSTEPS

Hello?

PHONE ALERT

We're meant to be
watching the race.

Let everyone else watch the
race, so no-one's watching us.

Wait, wait, wait. Hey, wait,
turn around, turn around.

What? I want to draw something.

Why are you drawing
boobs on my back?

It's a heart, man.

What are you doing that for?

Well, you do it.

And what should I write?

Um, maybe something that
you can't say out loud.

Go on, then. Hurry up!

All right.

Oh, Dean. Get lost, man. What?

That's disgusting. Yeah, I know.

That's why I didn't
want to say it out loud.

I hate you. It was just a joke!

Yeah, well save your
jokes for your mates.

I'm not here for
the bants, am I?

LOUDSPEAKER: Three, two, one.

KLAXON

Go, Sami!

That was the year that
those plucky underdogs,

the local Veterans Association,
made it all the way to the final.

Despite their w*r wounds and
their psychological trauma.

But they were a goal down...

All right, Cozzer?

How much are those?

Not a clue, me. These?

Not a clue.

And where's Mrs
Walters? Not a clue.

Not very helpful, Kelly-Jo.

Yeah, well, no-one ever seems
to want to help me, so...

And it's a good job that I made it
to the edge of the box, you see.

Otherwise I would have failed
to notice that the winger

was standing in an
off-side position.

So I disallowed the goal,
the underdogs were defeated.

There was a right scrap in
the centre circle, mind.

But the most important thing was
that I'd made the correct decision.

Right, won't be long now till
the first runners should be

coming in. Thank God!

Oh, Kelly-Jo... I still
don't know where she is.

No, wait.

I just wanted to say...

..sorry...

..if I was short
with you in class.

All right, whatever.

I've heard...

..those words that
you were asking about.

I've heard them a few times.

Doesn't mean a thing.

All that matters is having
someone who is good to you...

..and makes you smile.

And never hurts you.

Words are cheap.

Actions are all
that's worth anything.

All right. Yeah,
that's good to know.

Thank you.

I'm going back out now. Yep.

Oi, Walters.

Oi.

What you doing in here?
You can't be in here!

I just saw Vinny,
he's on his way in.

Look, Nicky, I know
that you owe him money.

I also know what he'll do
if you don't give it to him.

Who told you that?

What's this? It's nothing,
it's just kitchen stuff.

Don't!

You're not going to cook many
dinners on that, are you?

Oi, Preston.

Oi, wake up, man!

Oi, Preston!

Oi, help! Quick, help!

Oh, my God. I found
him like this.

Preston, can you hear us? I
don't think he's breathing.

Why would he not be
breathing? Preston, babe!

Has anyone got a phone?

Preston! What's wrong with him?

Get back to school, and
go and get some help.

It's like five minutes away. Don't
worry, there's a quicker way. Hurry!

He needs CPR.

What's the song you're supposed
to do when this happens?

It's just for beats.
It's 100 to 120, I think.

Guys, I'm on it. Um...

This one's like 105
beats per minute.

TECHNO MUSIC PLAYS

One, two, three, four,
five, six, seven, eight.

Please just pretend
you haven't seen me.

I'm not doing this
out of choice.

That's what I used
to tell myself.

But the school's insured,
who's it going to hurt?

You! If you get caught.

What are the kids going to
do? WHAT are they going to do?

Since when do you care
what happens to Preston?

Kai cares about Preston.

And that is good enough for me.

Yes, we are not going to see
the school record broken today.

Mr King, you can go
buy that new suit.

But I think I can see the
lead runner coming through.

Give him a cheer, come on!

Yeah, here he is,
give him a big cheer!

CHEERING It's Myles Massey!

Come on!

Miss, Miss, Miss!

What's up? What's wrong?
What's wrong? What's wrong?

Dwayne? Dwayne,
breathe. Come on.

Preston, in the
woods, he collapsed.

Miss, he's... He's
not breathing, Miss.

I'll get the defibrillator.
Yep, yep, yep.

Yeah, but I still
won, innit? Oi?

I still won, yeah? Nicky
Walters, Nicky Walters.

Yeah, I'll find her.
Ambulance, please.

Kelly-Jo, Kelly-Jo!

What? Where's your Auntie Nicky?

I don't know. I've
been calling her. Why?

If I don't finish this...
If I don't finish this,

then Vinny is going to hurt
them. What else can I do?

All right, everyone. Miss Campbell
would like you all to return

to your classrooms quietly.

Something must have happened.
They're coming back. I need to go.

I've got to go now. Nicky,
you shouldn't be doing this.

Danny, my kids! Please!

I'll take it. No,
you can't do it.

Nicky, I will take it!

You just make sure no-one's
coming, yeah? You'll be all right.

Where's the help? He's going to
die if he doesn't get help now!

Keep going, Kai.

The rest of you get
back to school now!

Keep going.

OK.

OK, wait, wait, wait, wait.

SIREN BLARES

Who invited you?

Do you want this or not?

I want payback from you,
one way or the other.

Vinny, we haven't
got time for this.

Open your boot.

Didn't take you long to get back to
your old ways, did it, hey, Danny?

Clear! THUMP

Hold on.

Preston. Preston.

Hey, guys, let's make some room.

Is he going to be all
right? Is he going to be OK?

Hey, hey, listen, you've
done the right thing.

We'll do our very
best to help him. OK?

So... is that her
debt paid now, yeah?

And if it's not, that's
going to the Feds.

You can't threaten
me any more, Vinny.

I've got nothing
left for you to take.

No-one's going to
thank you, Danny.

You'll always be
a lowlife to them.

You're never going
to be anybody's hero.

PHONE ALERT

Nick?

What are you doing here?

They left the gates open,
haven't they? For the runners.

If they catch you on site! I
know, I'll only be a minute.

I just wanted to say that...

Oh, I don't want to
hear it, Debs, honestly.

I'm sorry.

You were right.

You have looked after Kelly-Jo.

And you've sorted Mum, and
you've kept on top of the house.

I managed to get you this.

It's not two grand - it's
nowhere near it - but...

..might be able to help you get
out of whatever hole you're in.

Thanks, Debs.

I'm sorted now.

Hiya, what's going on? They've
just taken Kelly-Jo to the office.

It's Preston, man.

His heart must have just
stopped on him or something.

What?

I bet you were a right
good help in this.

Remember those first-aid
lessons - what was it?

Ring 999, give CPR. Oh, yeah,
and wear a big stupid costume.

Yeah, man, and I
kept the CPR in time.

You know what? This costume
probably saved his life,

and what were you
doing? Nothing!

Well, like...

Well, it was my
idea, the costume.

So it was probably me
what saved Preston's life!

Yeah?

It don't matter about the
record, you still won.

Do I look like I care
what you think, huh?

Oi, Myles, why didn't
you help Preston?

What? You were ahead of us, so
you must have seen him and ran on.

Yeah, well, I thought he fell over. What's your
problem? Yeah, but he wasn't moving, though, was he?

Is this true, yeah?

Whoa! That is cold, man.

You know, Preston
could have died.

You know, in fact,
he still might die.

You're sick, you.

You know what? You know what, I'm
going to spark him out for Kelly-Jo.

You all know nothing!

I'm better than every single
one of you, all of you.

Hey! Hey, you all right?

No, where have you been? I've
been looking everywhere for you!

Well, I got my trolley stuck
in a door upstairs, didn't I?

Why? Kelly-Jo been throwing
energy ba*ls at people again?

No, look, you need to
get to hospital now.

Why, what's happened?

It's Preston, he's collapsed.

What?

SIREN BLARES

Ton!

What's going on?
What have they said?

They said he's had
a cardiac arrest.

Oh, my God.

They said he was lucky -

that if they hadn't got to him
with the defibrillator... Kai.

You did the CPR,
you saved his life.

He's stable now. They've done some
tests, they just haven't figured out

what's caused it yet.

SHE SOBS

Mum, it's all right, it's OK.

I've brought his bag, just
in case he needs anything.

Look, Nicky. I've got to go.

Just give us a call if you
need anything, all right?

Thank you.

You'd do the same for me.

I'm going to make us some teas.

Kelly-Jo, Donte's
found your auntie, OK?

And I've spoken to your mum,
I've given her permission to come

and pick you up.

I'll wait with you in
reception, yeah? Yeah.

Is he all right?
Still no news, sorry.

And we had all of the correct
risk assessments in place and...?

Yeah, of course.

Do you think that maybe the
pressure that we put him under

with the sponsoring,
and do y...?

If he's had a cardiac arrest, it's
got nothing to do with pressure.

It's something, like, physical.

Oh, he's 17.

This was supposed
to be a good day.

There is something else, Kim.

We've had a break-in.

Mrs Walters? Yeah,
what's going on?

We're still waiting for results,
but irregularities on the ECG

have confirmed that Preston
did suffer a cardiac arrest.

He's 17 years old.

Well, it is cos he pushes
himself too hard, or what?

We're still trying
to identify a cause.

Preston's electrolytes
were very low.

Has he had an irregular
diet recently?

No, he looks after himself.

Right.

Would there have been
any vomiting at all?

No.

Well, is he going to be all
right, or what? He's stable.

When can we see him?
I'll go and see.

What is he going on
about, hey? Vomiting?

He's the healthiest
kid in that school,

and he's banging
on about his diet!

They don't know nothing, Mum.

They do.

It's my fault. It's
not your fault, love.

I'm so glad you were there.

Like Tonya said, you saved him.

I caused this.

I tried so hard to help
him get through it,

cos I thought nothing would
ever happen and no-one

would ever find out.

Find out what?

It's his messed-up eating.

Why? What's up with his eating?

He binges and then
throws up his food.

He's been doing it for months.

Maybe longer.

No, not Preston.

And you knew?

And you just let him
keep on doing it?

I've been helping him
with his eating plan.

And now his heart's stopped
and he's in there with tubes

stuck in him, and
God knows what?

What makes you think you could fix
something like this by yourself?

I was just trying to
protect him. Protect him?

You don't know what it
means to protect him.

You don't know what I go
through for him, for them!

And now it's all for
nothing, isn't it?

Because you thought it would be - what?
- romantic and exciting

to keep a secret?

Well, I'm telling you now, Kai,
if he doesn't make it through,

this is on you!

Oh, you!

I think you should go.

Right. Thank you.

The insurance is void.

Because the alarms were off, so
basically any money that we have

raised this afternoon is gone!

It's gone before we even start.

If I get my hands on the little
sods who did this, I swear!

What about CCTV? Also off.

How? How can that be?

Well, it's what we'll
have to find out.

You all right?

Yeah, Val's called my mum, so
she's going to come pick me up now.

Yeah, you are a knob.

But that's not how
you spell "knob".

What? Well, you spell
it with a K, sorry.

What? K-nob?

Yeah. Shut up! That's how you spell
knob. It's not. It is. No, it's not.

Thank you, by the way.

Hey.

There's no news on Preston.

I tried Nicky, but
she's not answering.

What's all this?

All of the computers
have been nicked.

What? How did they get in here?

You might have to
tell us, Donte.

There was no sign of
forced entry, CCTV was off.

And there wasn't any alarms on.

No, no, it was, OK? And I
checked the CCTV myself.

Come on.

What, you think I've got
something to do with this?

You're in charge of security,
you're the one with the codes.

Why didn't the alarm
go off? I don't know.

OK? All I do know
is I turned it on.

Well, I'm sorry but we are going
to have to have a formal interview.

Miss Campbell.

Kim, you know me.

You don't believe this?

It's a police matter, I'm sorry.

Right. SHE CLEARS HER THROAT

BELL RINGS

Oh. You're messed up, mate.

What a muppet! What is wrong with
you? How can you do that to someone?

I mean, what's wrong with you?
Weirdo. I hope it was worth it.

I mean, how can you
even do that to someone?

That's just pure evil.

Right. Sorry, lads. Just
a difficult day, yeah?

Mike might be held
up a bit, all right?

Yeah, OK. WHISPERING: Dwayne.

Dwayne.

What's wrong?

It's not the time.

Come on, I know
there's something up.

All right? And if it's you two getting
at each other again... No, it's not that.

You know how I've been saying
that I love being at yours

and I want to stay?

And it's true. It's
true for both of us.

But I don't know if I can stay if
it means being away from Dwayne.

And I can't stay if there's
a chance to be with my mum.

Yeah, and I want to get
to know her, as well.

OK, yeah. Uh...

Let's... We'll talk about
it when we get home,

when Mike's there, and...

..I'm glad you made
a decision together.

BEEPING

I'm so sorry, love.

I'm sorry...

..whatever you were
going through...

..and you didn't feel
like you could tell me.

I thought we had a special
relationship, me and you.

Close.

I thought I knew you inside out.

But I know nothing, do I?

Cos it was all one way.

Me always off-loading
on you, and...

..you saying,

"Don't worry, Mum.
It'll be all right."

And why didn't I see? I...

I'll tell you why.

Because I was too wrapped
up in my own mess.

My own stupidity.

There's me calling Debs a
terrible mother, and what am I?

It's me that needs to be better.
And I will, baby, I will.

I promise I will.

You're not on your
own now, baby, OK?

We'll fix this,
we'll get through it.

One step at a time.

My beautiful boy.

And the first thing you
need to do is be OK.

SHE CRIES
