01x10 - Chinese Nian Year Part 2

Post by bunniefuu »

-Uh, I... I only got a
glimpse of the creature

that took Peng and Everest.

Who could it be?

JIN: And where is
it taking them?

I'm trying to track the
chip in Peng's rocket sneaks

and Everest's
Mini-Mountain-Mimicker.

-Nian?

-Every winter,
during the New Year,

the ferocious monster, Nian,

comes out from the far
reaches of the land

in the mountains near
the ocean, to feed.

He ravages villages,
searching for food.

And if there isn't enough food,

he eats animals and
little children too!

But what happens if Nian
really does come one day?

-Well, then, I assure
you that I will be ready

with lots of dumplings!

-That's it! It's Nian.

Everything lines up!

It's New Year's, the
scales, the claws,

creatures are missing...
It... It all tracks.

-That makes sense!

The way we found
Fèng huáng's nest,

she must've been taken!

The Minticon are gone!

-Nian probably got his
claws in Sewer Koi too.

Peng and Everest's
tech is still active,

which means they're probably
not in Nian's intestinal tract.

Yet.

Okay, I got a lock
on Peng and Everest.

They're together and still
moving, which is good!

But they are really, really
far away, which is bad.

-Ugh! How are we gonna
get there in time?

We don't have Everest's cloud,
and we don't have Fèng huáng.

-I have an idea.

YI: I hope this works.

-Here you go.

-Uh, xie xie,Nai Nai,

but we're actively
trying to not think

about the digestive
process right now.

- Aiya! These aren't
for you, girl!

They're for Nian.

-What?

-Well, I told you before
that I would be ready.

Nai Nai sees everything.

-But how did you...

-'Tis I who saves the day!

'Tis we who save the day.

-No seat belt, no
service, mister!

-Sorry, ma'am. Of course.

-This is our rescue
ride to confront

the giant creature-eating beast?

-What? It gets great mileage.

-I can't believe Nai Nai knew what
we were up to this whole time.

How did she find out?

Like, why didn't
she say anything?

How much does she know?

-All good questions, Yi,

all right, but right now,

I'm trying to focus
on not throwing up.

Not that I throw up.
I never throw up.

I'm a never-throw-upper.

-Here, you take this.

-Guys, we're getting
closer to Peng and Everest.

Oh, no, no. No!

Oh, we lost the
blinking dot thingies.

-What do you mean, "We lost
the blinking dot thingies"?

-I'm sure it just means

that they're in a place that's
blocking their reception.

Or... Or that Peng and Everest
are in serious trouble.

-Oh, warts of worry,

we have to keep going if
we are to save our BFFs.

Which way now?

-In my book, it says

Nian lives in the
mountains by the ocean.

So... keep going straight?

MR. BURNISH: You're
quite right, Duchess!

There is no more
roads to go straight!

Or any road to go any
direction, for that matter.

Duchess says she'll tap
into her rodent instincts,

which usually means
burrowing under the earth,

only to rise to give
me grief about how I...

Somehow, I don't think
this is the right way.

-Don't worry, guys, we're
going to find a way out.

If the movies I've
seen are true,

which of course they are,

there should be a secret latch

that will release
us, so we can escape!

And the president of
the world will award us

with very expensive sports cars.

-Aha! I knew it!

It's...

a key?

Not a key! Not a key!

Aaah!

The movies lied.

-Can't you use your
violin to, like,

magic us a nature
bridge or something?

-Uh, yeah, about that...

The weirdest thing happened.

When I was at the
temple, this kid came up

and stole my violin and
threw it in the air,

and it fell and broke my strings

which were made from
Everest's magic fur,

which have now been replaced
with normal, non-magic strings.

-What?

Yi, we are literally going
into the dragon-lion's den

to face the dragon-lion of
the den's name with no magic?

-Yes. But don't worry.

We'll figure it
out! We always do!

-With magic! We
don't have time

for figuring things out
the normal-people way!

We are sinking into mud, which
is my fourth worst nightmare!

Mr. Burnish, don't you have

some spare tech in
the car we could use

to get us out of this?

-I'm afraid all my
tech is in the mud.

-Mr. Burnish, can
I borrow your cane?

-Of course! This is just
a performative cane.

-What are you doing, Yi?

The branch can't hold you.

-It will!

You will! Let's do this, branch!

- Ooh!
- Aah!

-Yes!

- Well? Come on!
- Okay.

Ju... Just like
Peru back in '82.

-I dunno about this.

I think my balance is still
off from that crazy ride.

-Duchess does not
appreciate that.

Come on, Jin. You can do it!

-Jin, the mud is getting
awfully close to your shoes!

-Ah! Aaaaah!

-That was embarrassing, Jin,

but what matters is
that you made it.

-Huh. Phew!

-I see mountains, but
which way is the ocean?

Ugh, how are we gonna
find Peng and Everest?

Ah! Paw prints!

We can follow Nian's footsteps.

- Yahtzee!
- Ooh, my favorite game.

I'm sorry. When I'm nervous

and feel like we're
on the brink of death,

my mind tends to wander
to simpler times.

Wait, what happened
to the footprints?

They just stopped!

-The ground is covered
with boulders and rocks,

an impossible condition for
footprints to be imprinted.

- Where now?
- Fear not! I have a map!

-Ah!

Now, we fear.

-That's it! Nian must've leaped!

But which way?

Uh-h*-h*! Minti! How
did you get here?

Oh, little guy, I'm
so happy to see you!

Nian must've missed you.

He's trying to
tell us something.

What is it?

-Look, guys! Minticon dust!

They must've been shedding
during Nian's transport.

Oh, I can see the trail!

Follow me.

-Those sound like
hungry footsteps.

This is it. We're dinner.
I've become my favorite meal!

Uhh, Mr. Nian, you
seem very hungry,

but I assure you that we
have awful nutritional value,

and we would definitely
constipate you, especially Morty.

Everest, use your magic!

No! Everest!

-No!

Everest!

-Come back!

Okay, guys, we have
to save Everest!

We are a team.

-Do you know what teams do?

We win together. We
go down together.

And today, we rise up
together, so that we can...

Win together! So we
don't die together!

Yeah! Whoo-whoo! Yes!

Okay, but let's just
win a little quieter

so Nian doesn't get mad.

-Hey, little guy, are you okay?

We have to keep going.

-I lost the trail.

-Why did the Minticon stop?

The candy dust must've run out.

Could Nian be here?

-But it doesn't look
like anything is here.

It's just greenery.

-A red bean rice cake!

It still has the perfect
amount of squish!

-I know red bean rice cake
is your favorite, but...

-Peng knows it's my favorite!

He must've left it
for us as a sign!

Which means Everest
and Peng must be close.

Jin, scan with your glasses

and see if there are any

sort of secret latches
like in the movies.

-Oh, Yi, come here.

Behind these vines.

-Bingo!

-Not my favorite, but
also a great game.

-We can't go in there.

It'll be too dangerous.
We have no magic.

-But we do... have dumplings.

-It's time for us
to make our move.

Are you ready for
Operation Bones?

-No creature can resist
Nai Nai's dumplings.

We just have to lure Nian out

so we don't get trapped
in his territory.

-Hopefully, these
dumplings are enough.

Don't want him to think
those are appetizers

and we are the main course.

-Or Duchess the amuse-bouche.

YI: Here we go!

-Oh, gosh!

-Everest! Are you okay?

-Nian, the famed creature

that haunted the imaginations

of the old and young
for generations,

is standing right
in front of us.

Is it true that the famed Nian

will eat whatever
is in his path?

Ooh! Yep, definitely
in his path.

-Everest, is Peng okay?

MR. BURNISH: Oh, dear!

-Yi, what are you doing?

-Guys, I don't think

Nian is trying to
eat the creatures.

-How do you know?

-I can feel his sadness.

He's lonely.

-Charge!

Get away from my friends!

Thank you, Nai Nai.

This may not be money, but
right now, it's so money.

Aah!

Aah!

JIN AND MR. BURNISH: Peng!

PENG: Uh! Ah! Ah!

- MR. BURNISH: Oh, no!
- Everest!

-Everest!

Where is Nian taking him?

-My dear Yi, we just
destroyed Nian's home.

He's going to destroy ours.

-No, no, he won't! Uh, uh...

Argh, we better stop him!

-Everest, hang in there!

-This is not how I imagined
the last moments of my life.

-I realize Nian is about
to destroy the city,

but, Duchess, can you believe

we are riding on a
flying fish in the sky?

-A flying fish! In the sky!

MAN 1: What is that?

MAN 2: No! How did
it get here? Run!

- Look out!
- Not the kids!

WOMAN 2: Watch out!

- Run!
- Go, go!

-Brace yourself, Duchess.

-Everest!

-He's okay, but he's
pretty beaten up.

Hey, just stay low, buddy.
Don't move too much.

-Peng, I have a plan!

-Great! Because I
really didn't have

a fallback post Operation Bones.

-I need you to lure
Nian to the scaffolding.

-Easy-peasy! Can do!

Fèng huáng, I'm gonna get
Nian to the scaffolding.

Can you peck at his jaw
and get Everest out?

Don't worry, Everest,
I'll be careful.

-I love you too.

Yoo-hoo! Mr. Nian,
catch me if you can!

But please can't.

-Minticon, cover Nian's eyes!

Everest!

-Everest, tell Nian
that he has to stop.

We don't want him
to hurt anyone.

And we don't want to hurt him.

-Incoming!

-Yi, do something!

-Hey! Woo!

Aaah! Ugh!

No!

-Timber!

-Yi! Run!

-Nian, please... stop.

-Stay away from my daughter!

-I never thought I
would use this sword

on anyone other than
the cabbage man.

But here we are!

-You heard the lady!
She's got a sword!

And I've got... dumplings!

They are frozen and very...

very hard!

So don't you dare
mess with my daughter!

-Ma, Nai Nai, don't worry.

I got this.

I'm sorry, Nian.

I lost my dad. I know what
it's like to feel alone.

-Wow!

ALL: Wow!

-Uh... How did you do magic
without Everest's fur?

-Holy moly!

You played your non-magical
violin magically!

-I don't know how I did it.

I just... I really
wanted to protect

all of you, my... my family.

And help Nian.

-We are...

your family?

Okay, just checking.
I didn't know

if you were looking
at me or past me.

I... I've made that
mistake before.

-Yi, you were right.
Nian is misunderstood.

-Yeah, Everest just told me
that when Nian took him away,

they were playing tic-tac-toe!

-Another great game.

-For hundreds and
thousands of years,

we told the story of Nian,

the ferocious beast who gathered
children and animals to devour.

But... it was wrong!

We feared him when we should've
tried to understand him.

-Nian, don't go!

I owe you an apology.

I'm sorry I misjudged you.

And sorry for
destroying your house,

that was partially
Nai Nai's fault.

-Please stay.

We can be friends if you want.

These creatures are
all our friends.

You don't have to
be alone anymore.

Nian!

His paws are scratched
up pretty badly.

-We'll take care of you.

From now on, you can
always count on us.

- Whoa!
- Amazing!

MAN 2: How did she do that?

- That was magic!
- Real magic!

- I can't believe it!
- Who are they?

- Creatures are out of the bag!
- Am I dreaming?

-Uh... A happy new year?

MAN 4: How did they do that?
